      Personally I have always thought that they would hang on to Biden for a minimum of 2 years by any means possible – because if Harris takes over before that she is limited to one additional term. If she takes over as POTUS even 1 days after two years since the inauguration she can serve another two full terms. The incumbent typically has a significant advantage, however it will take a heroic amount of MSM propaganda to make Harris likeable enough to get re-elected.
      
      I would say that it is beyond reasonable doubt that Biden has a serious cognitive decline issue, and only those who refuse to even examine the evidence for ideological reasons can’t see it.

  To be fair you use a standard actuary table for the usa then joe bidens chance of dying in office is about 20.5%. The chances of a 78 year old man dying in the next year is about 4.7% and this increases with each year of age. So if you do the math for a four year term it works out to the above percentage.

The free lunch programme is getting a remarkably balanced review in the Herald.

One view (that of Yendarra School), who declined the school lunches, is that there is no mana in getting the government feed your children.

“We don’t give out things for free as we don’t think it does anything for people’s mana.”

Instead they have provided education and guidelines helping parents (and kids) make better lunches and understand nutrition better. These kids will grow up understanding how to make a good mean on a tight budget.

The community is hugely behind this and clearly this has positive spin offs outside of school – also impacting family shopping and nutrition at home.

The second is from Clarissa Mackay , a school lunch activist. She backs up her case with research suggesting that giving out free school lunches is the way to go.

Of course, research from activists is really going to be cherry picked and anything that goes against her activism will be discounted.

She claims that the school lunches are around $5 per child and if that money is not given to the school lunch program, then $5 per child per day should be added to benefits – citing $25 per day for a family of 5 kids.

For her it is only a case of choosing out of two types of handouts. There is no long-term goal to grow people out of this dependence.

She says this also creates business opportunities in the local area. Wow. $5 per lunch is quite a biz op. It makes a nice trough for the local businesses.

She waves away concerns of this being seen as disempowering citing Uk. UK has huge problems with multi-generational dole dependence. It hardly makes her case.

I personally think the first approach is:
1) Going to have far better results as it changes the trajectory of the entire family for the better.
2) That it costs far less ($2 per lunch or so) is a relatively inconsequential, but still tangible spin off, leaving more money in the pot for better societal outcomes.
3) Does enhance mana. There is no mana in living on handouts.

I fully understand why the funding is $5 and not $2. Governments measure by spending – not outcome. “We invested $50 million feeding the most vulnerable” sounds far more impressive than $20M.

  If parents can’t breed what they feed, should they be parents? Either tie tubes on both genders if you want to get ‘free’ money from other people who actually work for it, or adopt out. No third choice should be offered to people who want to extort our money through the sticky hands of government and bureaucrats.

    I’d partially agree except for the forced medical and sterilization treatments – human kind has a bad history of those decisions.
    
    But as a whole it does concern me that it’s screamed “think of the children”, yet the parents who often don’t seem to put the children first or perhaps aren’t fit (or maybe ready) to be parents scream from the heavens if the state steps in to interfere – and largely society supports them.
    
    If the children are turning up to school hungry and the parents are willing or able to make the changes or take the education to change this, then wouldn’t “thinking of the children” be putting them into someone else’s care until the situation changes?
    
    As someone who wants to live in a society that values people, understands that at times things don’t go how we plan, and that people need support, I want to help people. I want our society to want to help everyone that is part of it. But being part of a society is playing by the rules, and doing what you can to support the society – however unequal that may be. I don’t even care of you end up being a net-negative contributor over your lifetime, as long as you’ve tried. But if you can’t accept that social contract why should society care about you? We’ll look after the children, but you won’t have any say in it.

      Maxx, no-one is forcing the ferals to get sterilized. We’re asking that they agree to get sterilized if they want to take other people’s money.
      
      It’s often overlooked that if I take your money and give it to a third party (while holding some back for me to fill my government trough) I have directly taken from you the time that you spent, out of your finite life, when you could have been doing something better or more fun :-), the time you spent to earn that money, that I’m now giving away.
      
      As others have said, no-one begrudges a safety net for the haplessly ill, injured, widowed or orphaned; we do abhor a featherbed for lazy sloths.

    Its always concerned and troubled me that we as a society take more effort in ensuring mistreated animals are taken away from their owners than we do with mistreated children,
    
    In fact we bend over backwards to keep mistreated children with the people who are mistreating them.
    
    Maybe we should look at the Health & Safety Act that says a hazard must be removed.
    
    In this case the hazard is the people mistreating children.
    
    Seems to me we are a screwed up society in this respect.

  Both sides have valid points that I agree with. On the whole it should start with education and guidance and then a safety net of some sort.
  
  What happens to them once they leave school? Lunches aren’t provided then and inevitably they support the local bakery buying their lunch everyday.
  
  Education is understood to be instrumental in breaking the cycle of violence and is no different with topics such as food poverty (and poverty in general), yet Labour and many social warriors seem hell bent on “just give them xyz”.
  
  The proverb “teach a man to fish…” is apt to the situation with the caveat of “if they’re hungry, get them fed first”.

      Agree with the sentiment – I’d like everyone to contribute, play their part etc. but we’ll always have a small handful who will not do anything or amount to anything. I’d like to think I wouldn’t step over someone in the street who was dying and this is no different. We should support them, to the point where they can exist. I’m not saying it should be a lifestyle and if they can’t go on holiday, or if its a shitty life living like that, take the support that is available and get a job. Perhaps for the long term unemployed (never gonna workers) we should have some soviet style apartment blocks and cafeterias in areas where no one wants to live.

        The problem is we now have a very large handful and governments, over the years, have normalised their behaviour. I feel they are forever lost from the productive sector so what can we – those responsible for them ‘not doing anything or amounting to anything’ – do to limit it for future generations?

    Commonsense should mean that you don’t have 5 kids, then you can’t have them.
    I resent any tax I pay is spent on your stupidity.
    I wonder how many parents would have loved to have had more children, but concerns about paying for their requirements until they were independent stopped them.
    {As an ex-primary teacher for 45 years, I have supervised hundreds – even thousands of kids from 1063, eating their lunches brought from home.

  The free lunch programme can have ‘fish hooks’ other than the more obvious ones of quantity and quality.
  In England, where school supplied lunches are a feature, they have just spent varying amounts of the last year with schools being closed.
  If school lunches become a large part of the healthy child system what provisions do we have to make for extended school closures – even summer holidays.

  IMO, by feeding other people’s kids, these kids will most probably also become taxpayer dependant for the remainder of their lives (probably just like their parents).
  Role models should initially be those in whose house kids reside. Later in life, role model acceptance may change but initially, parents should conduct themselves along the lines of being that role model and that doesn’t include depending on taxpayer handouts (wherever possible).

It’s an interesting dichotomy that Labour think that giving people more money will lift them out of poverty, that they can be trusted to do the right thing with that money, spending it wisely, and to impart any conditions or accountabilities would be unjust and inhumane.

And yet at the same time people with money can’t be trusted with money, people who run businesses cannot be trusted to do the right thing and must be regulated down to the size of the tea bag they supply, and if left unchecked the free market will destroy society with only Labour to save us from ourselves.

    That actually happens though. The rich person invests their money in expansion/other businesses and that creates more jobs and as the businesses grow, creating higher paid jobs, lifting people out of poverty. It’s literally what’s happened in China over the past few decades and something I have personally seen many many times locally.
    
    As opposed to Robertson’s ridiculous adherence to Keynsian Economics which requires a closed loop economy where A buys from B, B buys from C and C buys from A (i.e. late 19th century). Velocity of money arguments make no sense any more. Minimum wage/benefits go up and the money immediately goes to petrol, food and accommodation.

      It’s what Roger Douglas called “churn”. The money goes round and round in ever reducing circles, and nothing gets added to the pot. Eventually anything that relies on imported goods becomes scarce, because exports suffer, and there are less overseas funds to pay for them.

  As to the later, if you desire outcomes that are not likely to result from market forces, then yes regulate.

I think if you had a white person confidentially survey 100 white people and asked them “do you think white people are superior than Maori”, and then had a Maori looking person ask 100 Maori “do you think Maori are superior to white people” you would have a FAR higher percentage of Maori reply in the affirmative. Of course that is hypothetical conjecture, and holds little merit. But, so is the newshub article and that made the headline online this morning.

The argument that everything wrong with today is caused by white people because of historically dubious arguments about attitudes 3-500 years ago is no more intellectually or morally defensible than saying all Maori are disadvantaged because they’re stuck in a warrior mentality. Yet it keeps getting peddled.

I laughed when Meng Foon made a statement about this mysterious video, saying he was “disappointed that the narrative of white supremacy still persists”. Then I felt sad, because I realised it’s people like him, and the rest of the media, who are desperate to keep it alive.

    In support of this, I witnessed TVNZ1 doing a snow job on a National political candidate last night (the one whose ex-GF objected to him publishing her sexually explicit photos on the Internet). The talking head couldn’t help himself with his smarmy attitude when reading the script. This was the longest excerpt in last night’s news. Would a Labour candidate receive the same treatment? Of course not!

  I don’t think that anyone really thinks that merely being White makes you better than someone who isn’t. That would be White supremacy. There are clearly many useless and reprehensible scumbags who are members of the White race, and well adjusted non-Whites.
  
  It’s another thing entirely to say that there is clearly something about White people (as well as Northeast Asians) – be it genetic or cultural (and I think the one follows the other) – that results in a much higher proportion of Whites and Asians succeeding on a personal level as well as a societal level. Differences between races explain why Europe and the Anglosphere, as well as parts of Asia, are far more advanced and developed than Africa (particularly sub-Saharan Africa) and South America. Differences in race also explain the disproportionate number of Black sprinters and basketball players. The latter is uncontroversial, but the former is vehemently rejected out of hand.

This doesn’t excuse Jake Bezzant for the germ he is or what he has done but can someone please tell me which is the worst crime , Jacinda Arderns help to cover up a sexual assault when Darren Hughes was found chasing a naked lad down a street in Hamilton, or covering up a sexual assault that a senior staff member out of her office committed after promising those that were effected she would get Justce for them .
There will be a lot of publicity over this a the law maybe does need changing but it’s a bit rich for Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister to seek political points and shows just what a hypocrite she is
National need to upgrade the system on how candidates are selected because this is not just aimed at Bezzant its aimed at National and their integrity.

Spent yesterday afternoon at Spark Stadium for Auckland Uni graduation ceremony session for Faculty of Arts and remainder of Science left over from the morning session.

The graduates were 75% female and at least 50% Asian or Pacific Islanders. I guess that is where our future school teachers are coming from.

What is happening to the boys? Something is seriously awry in education.

      Correct, but most people at university are not pursing those degrees. They’re just doing a BA in parties.
      
      Increasingly even technical university education (sciences, computer science, engineering) is going down the lav and all you need it for is to have a piece of paper to wave about.
      
      You can already get a far better computer science education on youtube than you can get at university.
      
      If you really want to do courses etc, then hit https://www.coursera.org/ and do courses with multiple universities worldwide at low cost: at your own place, at your own pace, while you work. $400 will give you all you can eat access for a year.
      
      Work full time, study after hours is the ultimate combination.

In my travels around the many mid-sized successful businesses in NZ it impressed me how many were owned and actively managed by blokes with trade qualifications. The average turnover would have been around $10 million pa. Many of them employed university graduates in middle management roles

        In NZ, the drive for ‘equity’ (i.e. enforced statistical equality, regardless of the differences between individuals) ironically creates a measurable non-white privilege.
        
        The prioritisation of Maori and Pacifica for health (this was known before the announced separate health authority), affirmative action and quotas in the employment section based on race, the availability of scholarships based on race….
        
        I reject white privilege as iron-truth, and would only suggest it is taught (if at all) as sociological THEORY.
        Margeret Mutu for instance is in a far more privileged position than many white people as she denounces the ‘white supremacist system’ from her very real position of power.
        
        White privilege is a weak idea, taken a gospel and not up for debate. Yet it is a very limited hypothesis. More of a built-in excuse for those that want to embrace perpetual victimhood and a sense of grievance based on skin tone.
        
        Mike- is there a sliding scale, like a painters colour guide which you can put up to a persons skin, and tell me what % of privilege versus oppression a person has?

      The White privilege argument is generally speaking broken down into a whole bunch of incredibly racist assumptions:
      Having 2 active parents is privilege.
      Going to uni is privilege.

      Being able to do math and english is privilege.
      Understanding the value of hard work is privilege.
      Having parents that feed you is privilege.
      Seeing someone of the same colour as you on TV is privilege.
      Going to a hairdresser and they know how to do your hair is privilege.
      etc, etc, etc.
      
      The assumption behind “white privilege” is that all white people have all of these little privileges whereas Maori are inferior and do not. It is an evil lie that works to undermine the self reliance of Maori and force them to rely on others (whether it’s the Government or their tribal elite).

      Conway was superb last night. I watched the first session in the lounge, then because my wife was away for the night took my iPhone to bed and left the stream running. This Oneroof (aka NZ Herald real estate properganda page) If there was no foreign buyer ban, NZ would see $100m house sales, say agents started me thinking about the foreign buyer ban.

Starting off, I should say I’m against it. Free market, as an owner I should be able to sell (within reason) to whoever I want, etc. But assuming it’s here to stay, and using the expert analysis of Phil ‘don’t call me racist’ Twyford’s discovery that the Wong’s, Li’s, and Patel’s (it’s not racist anymore because it includes an Indian name as well), would it impact the affordability and ability of first home buyers if the was a floor placed to the value that a property could be purchased if you were a foreigner? Say $10m for residential property or 10x what the upper quartile average for the year? Maybe some other variable that accounts for region and/or land area etc.

I could only wish to have a property of this value to sell, so it wouldn’t affect or benefit me. But this would be positive for the economy, bringing in foreign capital and spending into local markets. It won’t happen under Labour though because a) it benefits the rich pricks who should donate these properties to the homeless, b) they didn’t think of it, and c) it would be going backwards on what they implemented. At least it’s almost the weekend…

A federal appellate court on Thursday invalidated the racial and gender preferences in President Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act as unconstitutional. The Cincinnati-based Sixth Circuit of Appeals ruled that provisions of that law, designed to grant preferences to minority-owned small-restaurant owners for COVID relief, violate the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection under the law

The specific provision struck down was part of the law’s $29 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund grant program for small, privately owned restaurants struggling to meet payroll and rent due to the COVID crisis. The law, which was passed almost entirely by a party-line vote in March, grants priority status to restaurants that have 51% ownership or more composed of specific racial and ethnic groups as well as women. By effectively relegating struggling businesses owned by white males or ethnicities and nationalities excluded from a priority designation “to the back of the line,” the COVID relief program, ruled the court by a 2-1 decision, ran afoul of core constitutional guarantees.

[…] under SBA regulations, a person is deemed “socially and economically disadvantaged” if they are “black, Hispanic, or Native American.” They are deemed presumptively disadvantaged as “Asian Pacific Americans” only “if they have origins from Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, China (including Hong Kong), Taiwan, Laos, Cambodia (Kampuchea), Vietnam, Korea, the Philippines, U.S. Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (Republic of Palau), Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Samoa, Macao, Fiji, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu, or Nauru.” Meanwhile, for a person to qualify as “Subcontinent Asian Americans,” they “must have origins from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Maldives Islands, or Nepal.”

If a person is in one or more of those groups, they are deemed presumptively disadvantaged — and thus entitled to priority grant allocation — unless “someone comes forward” with “credible evidence to the contrary.” But if someone is not in one of those groups — not just if they are white or male but also from any of the countries excluded from the preferred designations — then they can qualify only if they “prove they have experienced racial or ethnic discrimination or cultural bias by a preponderance of the evidence,” a process filled with lengthy delay and red tape.

  Non-Whites weren’t disadvantaged in the initial Covid relief because of their race, they received less or missed out entirely simply because they applied too late. Whites generally applied on time, so benefitted more from the Federal money. There may well have been a racial factor here, but it wasn’t a Trump admin’s governmentally mandated racial factor. However, in contrast, the Biden admin’s policy is explicitly race-based.
  
  Now, to “rectify” the above disparity of outcome, they are explicitly prioritising “socially and economically disadvantaged” groups (which for the reasons given above, missed out due to their own inaction) in terms of the current applications. In short, if you are a White male business owner, tough luck, you’ve missed out, we gave it all to Blacks and Hispanics. Ironically, this makes Whites actually systemically disadvantaged solely due to their race, whereas non-Whites had disadvantaged themselves.

What about your shoes– couldn’t someone catch it that way and infect countless numbers of people at your job, public places, and your home?

Is their going to be a time where we will have to wear disposable clothing and footwear as well as masks?

And 500-1000 Kiwis die every year from the common flu and our govt/ health officials don’t seem to be concerned over that!

If anyone thinks NZ wont have anymore lock downs they are being naive.

Just wait for the new excuses about covid from our govt in the near future.

Anyone know what’s going on with fixed-line phones? Are the telecom providers trying to confuse us?

PR types have been on TV recently talking about an end to fixed line services, yet the Commerce Commission says on its site:

Before Chorus (the line provider) can stop offering certain copper services, the Commission will develop safeguards to protect consumers, including ensuring:

– Your copper landline and internet connection CANNOT be taken away until an equivalent fibre service is readily available at NO additional cost
vulnerable consumers have an appropriate way of contacting 111 in the event of a power cut as landlines provided by a fibre connection may not work.

The capital letters are the Commission’s.

Like many or most Kiwibloggers I have cellphone, fibre broadband, and a “line” phone (through the fibre – the copper line on the pole in the street doesn’t have any users among my neighbours).

The attraction of the “line” phone for me is the cheap pricing on overseas calls.

Many people in rural or semi-rural areas still rely on copper line phones, and in cities, especially hill cities like Dunedin, there will be pockets without cellphone coverage though these folk will probably have fibre access.

The PR’s TV interviews on the topic don’t distinguish between “line” phones that use the fibre network (they still have a number they can list in the directory if they wish and call other non-cellphone numbers free of charge), and those, like some in rural areas, that are still stuck on copper lines.

Why would telecom companies stop providing “line” phone access over fibre?

  You have answered your own question – “I have cellphone, fibre broadband, and a “line” phone (through the fibre – the copper line on the pole in the street doesn’t have any users among my neighbours).”
  You use voice over internet (VOIP) on your fibre service. Your telephone is no different than the router you use to connect to the internet, it is just plugged into you fibre connection unit (ONT). So long as you have fibre you will have voice.
  “Why would telecom companies stop providing “line” phone access over fibre?” Where does it say that? The information you are reading is about the eventual closing of copper services and that is a long way off yet, particularly in rural communities.

    I wasn’t confused by something I read. It was a TV interview with a telecommunications “expert”.
    
    I’m happy with my set-up, but don’t like the idea of big (on the NZ scale) companies bossing consumers.
    
    It will take some education for us oldies with fibre to stop thinking of our “line” phone and think of it as the “VOIP phone” (in contrast to the cellphone). “Fibre phone” would be easier, but I notice some technical types call it a “corded phone”.
    
    Thank you for your helpful information, H. Upmann, and you, too, Fuzzysnuggleduck. Presumably, the wireless replacement you mention is a second optional replacement for the old “line phone”: from copper to fibre OR to wireless.
    
    In Christchurch, our copper-line phone worked during the earthquake while electricity was cut and cellphones were under pressure. I understand they have their own low current power on the copper lines.
    
    My fibre router needs power, so if the power is cut, my corded phone will be out.

      Copper works during events where there is a power outage since there are batteries built into the system at points like the roadside cabinets or exchanges. Copper is not dependent on the powered network devices on the customer end such as fibre or wireless – those boxes with flashing lights and such.
      If someone has a health issue then they should look at battery options for their household as well, as this can keep powering the customer end equipment (ONT or RGW) while generators are running on the network provider end.
      Even the copper network batteries will fail after several hours potentially, but since the old cord phones on copper (not-hands free type) dont require powering; you have correctly noted that they keep working in an emergency, for a while at least.

  Some of the retail service providers (Voda and Spark for instance) are sailing close to the wind on their messaging around ‘fixed lines’ supposedly ending to try and get people to move to an (inferior) wireless service.
  If you can link to whatever comms you have from a provider which is confusing you, then I have been told the head of the Commerce Commission is interested in examples, and is not too happy about misleading information being shared
  – Any example I can pass on.
  
  Basically, it is a continuation of Teresa Gattung’s {Telecom} ‘confusion as a marketing tool’ by Retail providers who dont have the customers best interests at heart, just their maximum profit.
  
  But as you have from the Comm Comm site: you won’t ever lose your fibre land line (VOIP phone).
  Even those on old copper networks are only able to be withdrawn from the copper network if there is a fibre optic fixed cable option available to connect at no extra cost. One thing that IS happening is that where the government (National) rolled out UFB, and fibre passes the premises, that in some areas the last few people using copper may need to move onto either fixed fibre, or a Wireless option.
  Fixed fibre cable is superior to shared bandwidth on wireless networks however, so don’t let the retail service provider fool you.

      Yes, lower price for them to offer a service/greater profit. But it depends what the customer needs, since Wireless has issues around bandwidth, peak times/lag.
      As long as they are clear around there being is difference it is fine to provide options.
      The aspect that the Comm Comm has taken an interest in is the marketing of Wireless (the more profitable option for them) and whether they are telling existing fixed cable customers (falsely) that the fixed cable network is being turned off in their area.

  Hi Jack.
  There are two discreet technology transitions / withdrawals in play – which can get mixed up in translation and understandably confusing.
  Spark are withdrawing their PSTN services – the old Neax switches which deliver Plain Old Telephone Services ( think Spot the Dog, call waiting etc.) You could still have services delivered over the Wholesale copper line ( a Chorus product) – but not a Spark Neax based one, so an IP Telephone running on ADSL for example.
  
  In parallel but at a much smaller scale, Chorus are at the very early stages of copper shutdown, issuing intent to withdraw copper wholesale service in areas with high Fibre uptake – regulated notice period of 6 months and at this point, < 1% of the network is identified.

  Fibre doesn’t work if you lose power. The old copper line phone is powered at the Telco end and is usually a lot more resilient to power cuts and carries on working after your cell phone or the local cell site batteries have gone flat. A lot of people in Christchurch learned that in the quakes.

Tough, gritty, and a must-watch once you get hooked into it.
Even the left New York Times loved it, as did Rotten Tomatoes.

    The only catch is when the Israeli actors are speaking Hebrew (most of the dialogue) it’s dubbed into English. But when anyone is speaking in Arabic, it’s subtitled.

  Interesting to note both the police officers were black, and the offender was white.
  Justified shooting IMO, in the USA context “Ask, Tell, Make” law enforcement context at least.
  However, if reversed races then could still have a social media meltdown regardless. The police only tried to use the taser once, and he could have waited for backup, didn’t need to shoot/no immediate threat, etc. etc.
  In NZ they would keep talking and talking until the offender got sleepy.
  Kind of think that unless you drop your weapon in a heartbeat then the consequences are 100% on you.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews confirmed on Wednesday she was working with her New Zealand counterparts to resettle asylum seekers who had been medically evacuated to Australia.

It is understood they would come to New Zealand under the longstanding offer to resettle 150 refugees a year.

But the New Zealand Government is continuing to stay tight-lipped on any agreement – a spokesman only acknowledging: “New Zealand’s offer to resettle refugees subject to Australia’s regional processing arrangements still stands.”

  I really wish these muppets would allow us to think for ourselves. Many of us do, of course, but many more have become – entirely due to fear – a mixture of compliant and complicit.
  
  There are others though, that not only purposefully use legislation to promote divisive, separatist legislation for which they have no mandate. It was not campaigned on to any degree within 1,000 kms of what they now propose.
  
  Such wide-ranging and damaging legislation cannot be rushed through as part of the most radical political agenda in our lifetimes. It is but a matter of time before the first “hate speech” prosecution is before the courts.
  
  Labour have realised they’ll never ever have a better chance to implement their radical agenda than when they have an absolute majority. It’s now or never, they won’t be able to govern alone for several cycles, and she’ll be at the UN by then. Maybe even the first female Secretary General?

  An Indian friend of mine in Wellington had his bride organised for him in India by his family. He went over there, but came back with her sister.
  His parents had been in NZ for about thirty years, but his mum couldn’t speak English. All their mates were fellow Indians.
  It was the same for the expats I knew in Bangkok. Most of their mates were also expats.

While this guy deserves to get the book thrown at him for riding his bike at around 200kph on our roads, I think charging him with manslaughter is a step too far.

They were out riding together playing cat and mouse games and his mate lost control and killed himself.

His mate that killed himself by entering a corner at an estimated 240kph chose the action for himself. The accused might have egged him on a bit, but it was the victim’s own choices that lead to the death.

To me this smacks of “he made me do it” which has never really been an acceptable standard.

So, if your children are for example (full or part) Indian, Samoan, Tongan, or Chinese New Zealander’s …. then the Labour Party of Aotearoa do not want your kids to learn a second language option.

Labour have killed of National’s/Paul Goldsmith’s members’ bill that would have allowed for up to 10 optional languages to be taught.

Note the outright lies and spin from Labour, the Ministry of (Aotearoa) Education and their supporters – they deceitfully claim that:

They were concerned that the bill might undermine the status of te reo Māori because schools would be able to choose a priority language that was not te reo Māori,”

However if one reads the article National were not suggesting anything like that, the article states:

The bill … would enable the Minister of Education to set a priority list of 10 languages, which schools would be forced to pick from and then offer as subjects. The priority list would have to include te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language.

So Labour & the Ministry of Education lied – National were ensuring that te reo Maori (and Sign Language) would have to be included in the list of 10 optional languages.

So in conclusion, Labour continue to be in collusion with Maori separatists, radicals and “brown” supremacists, denying other people’s cultures and languages (that reflect modern NZ society) in order to enforce their Maori supremacy outlook.

Bet you the rest of the MSM won’t even mention any of this (i.e. tv and radio). They will be too chicken to ask Ardern (or will unquestionably and uncritically accept her spin if they do).

It’s amazing to think Labour can be polling so high, as here is yet another example of how Labour “looks down” on people (and thus many of their own supporters) that are more open to other cultures and languages.

I hope these other cultures take note that Labour does not actually care for them, but simply use them to gain power!

  Any law that says our children have to learn a dead, stone-age language should be resisted with all possible resources. Likewise, any law that prevents schools from offering lessons in any of the many vibrant, living, useful languages should equally be resisted at all costs.

  If you have to learn a second language, do it at home. Get out library books etc, watch videos and find online resources.

Radio NZ’s web site got it right when it described a Maori knowledge authority interviewed on last Saturday’s morning radio show.

It described Matua Rereata Makiha as a renowned Maori astrologer and a leading authority on the Maori lunar calendar.

Makiha talked about the need for Maori knowledge to be taught in schools. He said he spent eight years learning the knowledge.

He believes tohunga should keep their place as guides, protecting and overseeing the teaching. He opposes the Ministry of Education developing their own curriculum using the knowledge. “Because they’ll always get it wrong.”

His approach would include computer learning of Maori knowledge.

Navigation would be one of the first Maori subjects.
Here’s Makiha:

“One of the sad things, of course, is that we grew up with the Ministry of Education teaching us the history of Scott and Amundsen making it to the South Pole – or nearly to the South Pole, not realising that over 1000 years before that our tupuna [ancestor] Tangiia… had actually sailed to the South Pole and had gone back to report to his elders that there was no land to the south, but what they came across were islands of white coral floating in the sea that was cold to the touch …

“We were never told those stories, even though they pre-date Scott and Amundsen by over 1000 years, and that’s the sad part about allowing the Ministry of Education to lead these discussions. ”

      A part-Maori was indeed the first New Zaelander to see Antarctica – but then he became an Aussie.
      
      This is from the Government’s history site:
      
      Tuati – first NZer to view Antarctica
      
      Tuati was probably the first New Zealander to view the coast of Antarctica, in 1840. He was part of the United States Exploring Expedition, which explored the southern oceans between 1838 and 1842. The expedition, led by Lieutenant Charles Wilkes, notably provided the first evidence that Antarctica was a continent.
      
      Tuati, also referred to by his European name, John Sac, was the son of whaler and sealer Captain William Stewart (after whom Stewart Island is named), and his Ngapuhi wife. He arrived in the United States on board a whaling ship in the mid-1830s, joining Wilkes’ expedition in 1838.
      
      Tuati worked as a seaman but also accompanied Wilkes as his interpreter when the expedition stopped in French Polynesia. Wilkes wrote of ‘Tuatti’ in his detailed narrative of the expedition, Narrative of the United States Exploring Expedition, commenting that he ‘was an excellent sailor, a very good fellow’.
      
      Tuati left the expedition in the Hawaiian Islands in October 1840, on the expiration of his term of enlistment. He subsequently migrated to Australia with his father and younger brother.
      
      The web site also notes:

      Maori tradition suggests that a Polynesian chief by the name of Hui Te Rangiora may have been the first person to see Antarctica. He is said to have encountered the icebergs of Antarctica in 650 AD during a voyage south of New Zealand.
      
      Nothing there about sailing to the pole.

        If he saw icebergs that’s not quite the same as seeing Antarctica. A few years ago icebergs were seen off Dunners. Going south to the sub-Antarctic islands would make them far more common.
        
        Auckland Island is only 500km from Shaddytown and there’s another 2000 km to go before hitting Antarctica.
        
        Hence it’s quite a big ask to believe that he really got to Antarctica – let alone the South Pole.

        many years ago Radio Hauraki reported an iceberg coming into Auckland Harbour. This was during a fuel shortage, but many drove to see it. Even as far away as Hamilton.

Well you could have knocked me down with a feather! The Herald actually publishing an opinion piece denouncing the IOC’s ridiculous decision to allow Mr L Hubbard to compete in weightlifting at the Olympics.

Lorraine correctly (and bravely, in the current climate of woke hysteria) points out some obvious and incontrovertible facts, such as “Now we have suddenly this whole issue of men who identify as women wanting to be included in the women’s category, and I find that very concerning and it seems that there’s a possibility of derailing the very thing that we fought for because men have considerable advantage across the board.”
