Last week saw the publication of an important study by the US Centre for Disease Control. The study evaluated 5 million hospitalisations, covering 800 US hospitals between March 2020 to March 2021. Of these hospitalisations 11% (540,667) were ‘due to’ Covid-19.

Of interest:
– Just 5.1% of all hospitalized COVID patients had no pre-existing condition
– 80,174 died during the observation period (March 2020 to March 2021). 99.1% of the patients who died had at least one pre-existing condition, with just 740 (0.9%) having no prior condition on record

Further, and the emphasis is mine:

The CDC study also assessed the risk factors for dying of COVID, and found that after obesity, the second risk factor which correlated most strongly with dying while infected with the coronavirus was anxiety and fear-related disorders.

Obese patients had a risk ratio of 1.30 compared to patients with no pre-existing conditions – meaning that a patient diagnosed with obesity but no other conditions was 30% more likely to die of the virus than a non-obese patient with no pre-existing conditions.

Anxiety and fear-related disorders came in a close second with a risk ratio of 1.28, indicating that patients suffering from anxiety were 28% more likely to die of COVID than patients not suffering from anxiety.

Diabetes had a risk ratio slightly lower than anxiety, at 1.26, followed by chronic kidney disease at 1.21, neurocognitive disorders at 1.18, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at 1.18, and aplastic anemia at 1.17.

So anxiety is more lethal than Diabetes, kidney disease, COPD etc.

The evidence shows that being fearful has a large negative impact on your chances of surviving a Covid-19 infection. Fear’s negative impact on the immune system is a topic I’ve previously commented on.

Since the start of this ordeal, most governments have consciousnessly upped the alarm so that not a day goes by on which some sober pronouncement of doom, which wilts when subject to objective measures, is foisted on us. There is now so much content that books are now being written about the phenomenon. To wit, A State of Fear: How the UK government weaponised fear during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is literally murderous for governments, aided and abetted by their alarmist media toadies, to deliberately stoke fear and anxiety in their communities. Their pursuit of power, control and ratings is killing people.

What is needed here is a Nuremberg-style enquiry. One designed to identify and punish the public figures responsible for the most flagrant promotion of Covid-related fear and anxiety. Just like the Nuremberg trials, we need something to stand as a historical monument for our children and grandchildren, and as a warning to the future’s leaders, one highlighting the personal consequences of abusing their positions of trust.

In the meantime the good news is that your weight and your anxiety levels are completely within your control. Don’t let power-hungry authorities or alarmist media convince you otherwise.

    When and how do sensible, necessary public information campaigns turn into “fear and panic campaigns.” What are the elements and nuances which constitute fear and panic campaigns?
    
    Do events or the way they are used cause hysteria? Like two women are let out of quarantine after lobbying from an MP (to visit their dying parent) and that gets chucked around as a cause for fear.
    Or there’s a homeless man in Auckland who walks in off the streets to a flash isolation facility and apparently is endangering everyone. And people’s health records are passed around to politicians to use how they wish.
    
    Fear and panic, mistrust, anxiety? Plenty of things for a lowest common denominator media to work on with orchestration from lowest common denominator agenda driven ones. On a terribly insecure audience.

    Of the fear campaign resulting in self harm and death by own hand, numbers are never revealed so never discussed. These days I lead an increasingly non contact existence yet I am aware of a serious number of clear suicides and a further number of ‘accidental’ life ending incidents that have many hallmarks of a suicide that has been masked?
    Fearing exposed failure is a recurring facet of many suicides and the absence of a “Note” often precludes a Coroner’s finding to reflect any link to suicide.

    What are you on about? I have read the executive summary of the CDC study. KK reports it accurately. The study points out that the reasons for the correlation between anxiety and adverse COVID outcomes are not fully understood. But the methodology and sample size are sound.
    
    KK bringing a new study to our attention deserves thanks not abuse. If it had been a rubbish study I would have commented accordingly. And politely. ?

  Panic is well known to shut down thinking and decision making.
  
  There is a well understood phenomenon that when people start panicking.
  
  While this was best described by the “incident pit” (aka panic pit) theory linked to deaths in diving, it has also been linked to many other incident including plane crashes etc.
  
  Panic shuts down rational thinking which makes it less likely that people will think for themselves. Bad for people trying to solve problems, but pretty handy if you want to get compliance from a fearful population.
  
  This is interesting as it takes that one step further – panic and fear actually modifying physiology to increase the chance of respiratory death. Intuitively it makes some sense: a panicky person is more likely to have raised pulse & breathing etc – not good when you’re already struggling for breath.
  
  Still, intuition is not enough. I hope this gets explored and understood scientifically.
  
  I wonder too whether anxiety disorders are also maybe a marker for other conditions (eg.
  smoking, being generally unfit etc).

Since then the United States has declared that the era of engagement with China is over and it’s the era of competition.
It was also the first outing for Xi since his speech a couple of weeks ago when he said Chinawas inevitable and threatening a “wall of steel of 1.4 billion people for any country that Bullied, Oppressed or Subjugated China.
Ardern insisted that there were no tensions between Biden and Xi and Regional Tensions between China and the US were not discussed.
The question I ask is how could Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister and this Journalist spout these lies when President Xi was prerecorded, of course there was no tension because they were not there face to face.

  Ardern’s Government should fix that, before introducing an inheritance tax or specialised capital gains tax.

    Socialism (according to Lenin) has the ultimate goal of no government, except to achieve it they have to instigate tighter govt. controls in the hands of the political elite, creating their own oxymoron.

Deaths by lightning have doubled since the 1960s, according to the Indian Meteorological Dept., which says climate change is one of the reasons for the increase.
Or, could it be that India’s population has grown from 450.55 Million to 1.393 billion during the same period.
Perhaps, climate change has resulted in a lower percentage of the Indian population being killed by lightning.

  Another really bad statistic, if you visit Australia, you have a 1 in 10,000,000 chance of dying from the beast of a strain, Delta WuHu flu.
  This is rolling 7 day average it is identical to Sweden.
  According to the site,
  NZ has been zero chance since February 18, you had a 1 in 3 million chance of dying for one day.
  It is now taking 2,000 tests to find one positive in Australia.
  July 11 rolling average in NZ was 4,000 to find one case.
  Does anyone know what the actual cost of these tests are, from start to finish of process.
  What are the costs per discovery of the brute?

      Testing will not be completed for at least 5 years from the vaccine origin date, which is around 2025. We, the people, are the human guinea pigs.
      
      So unless these “medical experts” possess a time machine, and have traveled forward in time to 2025, 2030, 2035 etc, they cannot say it is ‘safe’ or ‘fully tested’.

There is more than one way to ‘strike’. Like farmers, landlords are owners of significant assets and have other ways of voting with their feet – maybe not the very public tractors rioting in the streets. IMO first step is the standard – do the sums and the risk assessment. That should indicate if action is imperative, desirable, or not needed as all is good.

Action including sell up and take those tax free capital gains to spend up large, including upgrading own home to increase value and enjoy living there meantime.

First 4 months of 2021 – more than 6,000 households added to the social housing waiting list. Vacancies are nowhere near that number. Minister Woods has said that some of those in motels and other transitional housing have come there from private rentals. Indications that some landlords are making choices. Because they can.

    There have been several attempts to wash Friday away as though it didn’t happen, and that it was small scale.
    
    1. News opinion commentary by one Chris Falconer, that not all farmers supported Friday’s protests. Mr Falconer is a TeKauwhata farmer and long time Green Party activist/supporter;
    2. Claiming the student strikes that many schools in 2019, had the support over 170k students. This was because of the number of schools that were closed because of the strike. Meanwhile Friday apparently only had 50,000 turn out in support of the protests nation wide. Really?
    3. The govt through both RNZ and TVNZ are falling over themselves to justify the $2.75m money laundered gift to the Mongeral Mob.
    
    Over the past 36 hours, it is clear the govt and the media have been making an extensive effort to make that Friday was a handful of malcontent greedy farmers who don’t want to change their ways.
    
    Or in summary, as usual through misinformation and spin, the government has cast rural NZ as the “baddies”.
    
    Never has NZ had a government more hell bent on division than Jacinda and her bunch of incompetent socialists.

  Kevn, I was travelling through some rural towns last Friday and the demo was on everyone’s lips and the tractors made sure you couldn’t miss it. ZB gave it heavy coverage and the Rural Show at midday helped that. Williams slotted it in between their Child Cancer fund raiser. If you missed the demo last Friday you would be a cave dweller without any technology at all. The MSM is well known for dropping coverage next day of any demonstration. But I would suggest the Government should have looked at there behavior towards farmers since they have been in power before insulating that farmers are disrespectful.

So after over a year and a half of lockdowns we were told vaccinations would free us up, but then “variants” conveniently appeared so more lockdowns and now the green pass so only those vaccinated will be allowed in restaurants, gyms, trains, flights concerts etc (coming now in Europe). If the vaccine was so effective before why all these draconian measures now.

The organisers of this event are clearly not aligned to the National Party as the protest was a coherent, popular success. Three things the National Party currently is not.

Labour cannot spin this as a National Party protest for these reasons, it is a joke they are even trying. If National organised it the thing would have been a failure.

The problem with farming is of course that there aren’t enough farmers left in New Zealand to swing an election.
What however will is when people in the cities realise just how much all this regulation and red tape will force up the prices of everything they buy and force into their gobs.

Had to larf to myself last night. A few of the boys came over again to watch the 2nd Test on the big screen.
Not long after it started, I took some hor’dourves in for them to have. Noticed Fiji was actually leading 3-0 at that stage.

About an hour later went back to clear the mess. By this stage, saw the AB’s were about 50 points ahead! LOL.

I tried to imagine the team-talk in the Fijian Dressing Room at half-time 😀

I recently spent $6,500 on a young registered Black Angus bull. I put him out with the herd but he just ate grass and wouldn’t even look at a cow.
I was beginning to think I had paid more for that bull than he was worth. Anyhow, I had the Vet come and have a look at him. He said the bull was very healthy, but possibly just a little young, so he gave me some pills to feed him once per day.
The bull started to service the cows within two days……. all my cows! He even broke through the fence and bred with all of my neighbor’s cows! He’s like a machine!
I don’t know what was in the pills the Vet gave him … but they kind of taste like peppermint.

One of the commentators has just said that the organisers have allowed a Covid19 vaccination centre to be set up there.
So, come and watch the golf and get vaccinated.

Just an observation on COVID and the vaccines. The evidence about their effectiveness is becoming clear. And the picture is quite different to what we hoped a few months back. But I see no signs that Jacinda understands this.

To summarise.. The vaccines reduce your chances of catching the delta variant by about 50 percent. They reduce your risk of transmission by about another 50 percent. So we will have about 25 percent of the transmissions that we used to have pre vaccines.

So this means that unless we remain locked out from world, covid will be endemic in New Zealand. No maybes. Fact.

But…. The vaccines are highly effective at reducing severe covid symptoms by about 96 percent. They stop covid getting into your lungs. So if you covid you get three symptoms.

Headache

Runny nise

Sore throat

Take some Paracetamol.

So… We will have covid but there will be no scenes of packed hospitals like Italy and Portugal etc. Yes some fully vaccinated old people will get sick and some will die but it will be very rare.

My point is that the evidence of vaccine efficacy is so clear that Jacinda needs to come clean. There are ONLY two scenarios. Once we have good vaccine cover covid will be endemic. Or we locked up forever. What is her intentions?

If an 85 year old, or anyone really, chooses not to get the vaccine, and becomes seriously ill that is not my problem. By December the borders should be entirely open to anyone who is vaccinated. AND if you are vaccinated and get covid there is no being locked up for 14 days. You might choose to wear a mask and avoid crowds. But there is no more compulsion.

  Downtick because you seem to be happy with vaccine apartheid. Given covid will become endemic and there are those of us for whatever reason can’t/won’t get the jab then why does it matter if you are vaccinated and thus protected from this virus.
  We have no antibody kits in NZ so vaccinating blindly will just lead to issues especially as Phizer reacts particularly strongly in those who had the disease. We know it was circulating from October/November 19 so we are very foolish to think we didn’t have an outbreak here before the PM was forced to close our borders because no one wanted to fly here in late March.

    I disagree with you because if you are not vaccinated you are more likely to transmit it and also because your risk of serious illness is much higher especially if you are over 60.
    
    Putting my disagreement aside, your proposal will simply never happen. Open borders to unvaccinated people is simply never going to happen in New Zealand.
    
    Put another way, open borders to vaccinated people is the best case scenario we can hope for. It is the other scenarios that I am worried about.

  BY, I did read somewhere where religion has been replaced by C-Fear, especially in the older group of once God-fearing humans. I look on with amusement when a wee line of retired assemble at the supermarket sign in table, or dutifully scan the sign. Others race in with their trolleys. Funny isn’t it that with the winter flu jab there was no shaming of non users (I get one annually). One day the world will look back on the whole C19 thing and marvel at how the Western world was closed down and their economies destroyed.

    Anyone who thinks you can control who you are attracted to either needs their head read or has an agenda.
    
    Are gays and lesbians prejudiced and biased because they are attracted to same-sex people only? Is that what these people are suggesting?
    
    I saw recently online some vids labelling men as prejudiced, discriminatory and nasty people if they didn’t consider trans-women as potential partners. Unbelievable.
    
    There are women of certain races or builds or ‘types’ who I just do not find attractive or interesting and I won’t be changing my views any time soon – and anyone who suggests I am some sort of bad person because of this can go and take a running jump.

The real problem is that the referees are petrified that they will make the wrong decision.
By the wrong decision, it is a decision that the Rugby Union and referee appointments people will hold against them.
As a result the decision-making process has lost any semblance of commonsense.
It was not a red card offence. The French player did lower the position of his head.
Any player with the ball always lowers their stance when contact is imminent. It called bracing yourself.
Any contact with the head was minimal, if at all.
If the French player had maintained their body position the Australian players head would have been at least three to six inches away from the ball carrier’s head.
On the credit side – it did lead to one of the greatest Wallaby performances.
Bring on the Bledisloe.

Well just watched the interview with Tam and Poto Williams. Elements of what Tam said are accurate but giving his company $2.75M will not solve inter generational issue he tried to pin it on. It will certainly help him personally though. On Williams where do you start, she doesn’t trust Tam and thinks the interview was a recruiting drive. She expects him to lead more change in disbanding gangs. But happy to give him $2.75 M to try and sort out one chapter of one gang. Try and work that out. QOn her stats 60,000 military semi autos were not taken off the street, a number were along with a variety of other sporting firearms. Lastly on generally arming policy, she didn’t understand what general arming was it is clear that she has no idea on governance and her role as a Minister and the Commissioners role. She was “very clear” that she does not envisage a situation where police will be routinely or generally armed, so sorry boys and girls it doesn’t matter how matter of you are killed or wounded or the public for that matter, Police will not be generally armed to protect themselves or the public. Be a brave Commissioner who would go against that very clear signal from this government and we certainly dont have one now.
PS: who thinks Ministry of Health are capable of managing these funds properly when being stood over by the gangsters and given the way they have managed the COVID response and the vaccination programme ?.
