    What amazed me was a post further down referencing something that the otaki mp had said.
    
    By all accounts, it’s the first time I have heard her talk.
    
    This Teresa Ngobi did zero campaigning in the electorate, made no statements about what she stands for and could/would do for the electorate. She cant even make clear her position on whether the kapiti airport should be saved.
    
    Now, some 8 months later the first thing she does is to rip into a highly skilled professional (doctor) that had to leave the country because he couldn’t deal with the residency system that was taking top long.
    
    In her very own electorate, most doctors are not accepting new patients as they are too busy yet we do nothing to retain high level people? No worries, just make sure that fucken terrorist comes here instead. A good net gain for the country… not.
    
    How the fuck did this person win the electorate? Are we at the point where we need to check for voting irregularities?

      Kev OMG it would be kind of delightful if after all the bleating, propaganda, cancel-culture and far left lunacy that infests climate science, the warmth just went on vacation and the climate hysteria mob were left shivering every summer for a good long while.
      
      After following all this for over 20 years I think there is a reasonable possibility something approximating that scenario could happen. If not, the world is set to spend trillions on a bunk hypothesis (that bunk hypothesis being human emitted Co2 {which is 3% of all CO2 emitted} is a significant driver of the earths climate). Those trillions could be spent on far more pressing and real problems that CAN be fixed.

Have experienced 2 MIQ in NZ and one overseas.
My suggestion based on 30 years in the “systems”” game.

Objective. To efficiently allow relevant people to enter NZ while protecting the border.

Change MIQ application website. Its currently not fit for purpose.
1. Collect all relevant information in to one database and USE it!
2. Include credit card details.
4. Simplify booking.
a) put in date range required (1 week?).
b) allocate on first come first served basis
c) Notify allocation by email.
d) Not accepted in 24 hours, next on the list gets a chance.
Applicant goes back in the que

Arrival at airport.
1. Put charge against card $3100 for Kiwis $5000 for others
Note: Credit those that meet the freebee requirement after they exit Quarantine/adjust charges.
2. First checkpoint at airport.
Check ALL paperwork against MIQ application, Covid Test, visa, landing card etc.
Take temperatures.
3. Immigration/Customs data collection/scan passports as normal
4. Biosecurity/bag check as normal
5. Take Day zero swab.!!
6. Put Pax on Bus (check against Miq Application data all pax accounted for)

Arrival at Hotel.
1. Hotel staff check arrivals against MIQ darabase, issue key.
2. Hotel use Credit card details for incidental charges.
3. Check guests mobile phone number.
It’s the 21st century!! Everyone has a phone!
No phone. Give guest loaner phone.
Communicate with guests by txt message. Reduce the gazillion phone calls.

NOTE:
1. Maximize efficiency of staff.. Currently over staffed by NZDF. Why do they have 2 personnel on duty for everything?
2. Address shortage of nurses by recruiting 100 Philippine? nurses on contract. Great English, competent at taking swabs and checking for symptoms.
3. Allocate more hotel spaces.

Great presentation, I only meant to watch an hour or so, and then ended up watching the whole thing. Especially good for me, was the excellent simplification of T-cells and antibodies, in relation to Covid, by Professor Bhakdi. There has to come a time, I imagine, with the availability of all this information, when people who blindly push the experimental jabs, and call people who don’t want to be part of the unpaid clinical trials silly and stupid, a time when their intentions and motivations will be questioned by the masses, or the silent majority.

After last night’s release of the Roy
Morgan poll I would think their would be many people out there like me that think Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister
could commit murder and the fickle voted in New Zealand would come her rescue with excuse’s of why it happened
and defend the indefensible.
Being a sorting fan, I want to see the best of sport happen, just like the Bledisloe rugby cup in the days of Covid-19 last year, but I definitely don’t want to see it used for Political advantage like the Prime Minister and Finance Minister have done over the past two years.
The Prime Minister and her MP’s have gone out of their way to tell the public of the economic advantage this game will bring but send in a novice MP Minister Dr Ayesha
Verrall to defend the lies of this will benefit the economy to the tune of
$20 million when the Auckland City Council and its Mayor have said a previous match had only bought in less than $1 million? Unsure. Surely this is a Political decision, yes Dr Ayesha Verrall conceded it was. Because, let’s be honest won’t go down well in the polls.

      Brian wasn’t “having a go” at him; he was mocking him. And rightly so.
      
      Happychappy puts up lengthy comments here every day. They are badly worded, riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, suffer badly from poor layout, and amount to little more than rants.
      
      I realise he almost certainly “blasts out” his comments by way of his smart phone, but that assumed fact should cause him to take far more care than he does; to have a little more respect for his fellow Kiwibloggers than he has displayed hitherto.
      
      After all, we’re the ones who he hopes will decide to wade through his contributions. The least he could do is make that task much less of a trial.

Andrew Little, ex-Union leader, still hasn’t figured out that the members tell the union what the bottom line is, not the other way round. He would do well to visit some hospitals, talk to nursing staff, observe them at work especially at peak times and overnight, talk to patients – and to those on waiting lists – before sounding off. Or, maybe not because his current stance is pissing off nursing staff and the DHBs enough to cause Labour some well deserved problems.

      Unhinged is quite right, it astounds me that someone as smart as her still hasn’t worked out that vaccinated or not the political class have decided we are never traveling again. You just have to see the goalposts constantly shifting to realise this.

    Yes it is a mess. The vaccination rate will rise over time. I am guessing it will stall at 85 percent. Over 80s will be 99 percent.
    
    Let’s face it, if the alternative is no flying on planes, no access to gyms, sporting events, theatre etc, most people are going to get vaccinated. But I guess some people don’t do any of those things so don’t care
    
    The bottom line is that if you are unvaccinated you are going to find it impossible or difficult to do a whole bunch of things that make life enjoyable.

      And yet vaccinating the under 20’s is unethical an immoral, at least with the current data we have to work with. The risk of the vaccines (the current ones we have) is at least as high as the risk of catching Covid for healthy younger people.
      
      May change as we get better data (or more comprehensive and vetted data) and/or better, safer, vaccines.

        Sure, vaccinating children and babies could be controversial.
        
        Also, vaccine passports might need a huge bureaucracy. I was just intending to have the first two jabs, and not bother with the third booster shot, which they say will be needed almost straight away.
        
        If new jabs are going to be required every six months or so, will these vaccine passports keep track of this? I can also imagine fake documentation being rife.
        
        My thoughts were I would catch Rona at some point, so gain natural immunity, and I wouldn’t keep getting vaccinations six monthly… I may need to think again…
        
        Anyway, it is good of the Oz government to be open and give some indication of what the rules will be, to aid planning.
        
        Our completely useless gurning Prime Minister has told us absolutely nothing of use so far. I really cannot stand her.
        
        I think the whole problem stems from a loss of face by the Oz and NZ governments. If everything is simply opened up and we learn to live with the Ro, these governments could be criticised for overreacting to Ro to date.
        
        The vaccines really don’t seem much chop to me. Was it really worth spending 40% of GDP hiding under our beds waiting for this magic potion?
        
        Still, the bottom line is, I will vaccinate, mainly because I want to travel et al. I’ve been bullied. Such is life…

    Yep so what happens? The point being get vaccinated then when these target are almost hit (they’re ridiculous I agree) march in the streets violently for our freedoms. I cannot see any other outcome happening. At the moment sitting on the sideline whinging and moaning about the vaccine isn’t the best strategy. Get it then demand your life back.

      To date, we still have personal choices. Will it last?
      I’m picking there are things we do in life and things we take for granted that will disappear over a very short period of time unless we get vaccinated against Covid-19.
      I don’t believe in bowing to this Govt’s dictates but I choose to travel overseas so if travel dictates I have a vaccination, I will.
      If they include the fact I have been vaccinated on my Passport or Drivers License, I don’t care. It’s the price I choose to pay.

      I don’t have a problem with anything that requires some form of identification eg your driving license. It would just be another data field included on the obverse side of the license as are permitted classes of vehicles.
      Let’s face it Benedict we don’t find it difficult to present our Passports when traveling which have personal electronic data entities embedded in code.
      Also, we don’t have difficulty when presenting our Credit/Debit cards when paying for something and we don’t have a problem with swipe cards for our Garages/Gates etc.
      As a footnote Benedict, IMO we don’t know half of what’s embedded in the code of any electronic card we carry and readily use.

I find it really stupid when people say a loud bang was like a bomb going off. How does that help describe anything? Very few people have actually heard a bomb going off (I have, but that’s an outlier).

But his one is even more ridiculous: Getting infected with CV19 is apparently like doing 20 rounds with Mike Tyson. Nobody has ever done 20 rounds with Mike Tyson.

Fully vaccinated and they still get CV19 this badly…. Hmmmm.

Either they’re being complete wimps or they don’t have enough faith in the holy water.

    I would be surprised if you have had influenza “a few times”. Were you diagnosed?
    
    Influenza will typically put you into bed for 5 days. Everything will ache. You will have a fever. You will be off work for two weeks and take a month to fully recover. Those caring for you will be wearing masks.
    
    These are classic symptoms of the “flu”. I hear people weekly telling me they have the flu. They have no such thing. Indeed this winter no cases of flu have been reported in New Zealand.

  I’ve not been stricken with covid-19 and I’ve no intention of finding out just how bad it can be, which is why I’m inoculated against it’s worst effects, so I’m told.
  Two things have caused me all sorts of distress. An operation to replace my hip joint, probably because the opportunity was taken to rectify inequality of the lengths of my legs and the breakdown of my first marriage.
  There’s no way I’d attempt to compare either to anything else. They’re unique occurrences.

There is always a strong tendency to try and resolve problems, both real and imagined by making new restrictive laws. Politicians, generally love it. There is huge pressure on Ministers to “fix” problems, back benchers are obliged to have a bill in the draw hoping for some exposure and pressure groups lobby around the clock for regulations to resolve their particular heartache.

Laws are meant to be a deterrent and a means of penalising miscreants. Do they work? Only part of the time. Put your hand up if you have never exceeded 100kph? Told you so – not a single hand went up. Are they a deterent? Sometimes. Drivers slow down if they see a van with dark windows parked on the side of the road. Then they speed back up again.

Police readily admit they overlook certain practises or minor breaches. There is just too much regulation on too many fronts and too few cops to demand every law is policed.

Proposed hate speech law and conversion therapy laws will not stop what happens now. Some lobbyists will feel better. Politicians will thump their chests. The media will crow but on the ground the “problem” so-called will continue.

It is simple a feel good, time wasting interference in our lives and one more freedom lost forever.

  In the case of the hate speech laws it is doubly problematic because:
  * The definition of hate speech is so subjective.
  * It is not applied uniformly to all people.
  
  A bit like saying we need speed restrictions, but:
  * Leaving the speeds arbitrary.
  * Letting different people drive at different speeds depending on the colour of their skin.

    A silly poster here tried to frame a statement as “hate speech”.
    
    The statement was “islam is a cult of death”.
    
    There was no “call for action or reaction”, it was just a statement of opinion, much like Judith Collin’s statement earlier in the week. Perhaps that’s why the labour intern tried to turn the comment into hate speech.
    
    The statement is also taken out of context which is a trick often used by a lazy debater and often a fuller explanation defuses the comment which is why it is “clipped” to make an impact.
    
    Now standing outside a mosque displaying a sign with those words may not move it into the “Hate Speech” legislation proposal but it would already be classified as offensive and dealt with by existing laws.
    
    My opinion is that the proposed legislation, which will probably never happen, would be designed to be vague enough to allow a government to utilise it to quash speech or comment that it didn’t like by labelling it “hate speech” and using a compliant judicary to take action against those that would speak out against the government. We already know we have enough compliant judges.

  WRT the hate speech laws there are absolutely no grounds for such laws because current law has more than sufficient provision to prosecute hate speech.
  
  What has to be remembered by all is that whilst the freedom of speech is a right, that right carries a responsibility that the individual exercises that right with due care and consideration of others within their society.

    I disagree entirely. The whole point of freedom expression/freedom of speech is that it can be exercised without consideration of others. Forcing people to limit their speech based on “due care and consideration of others within their society” is the antithesis of free speech.

    There are thousands who have been fucked over by the governments about face and illogical rules on immigrants. The latest scam is those waiting for work visa renewals or upgrade visa applications from work to residency visas are no longer being put on interim visas whilst approvals are pending. This means they can not work and in some cases have to leave the country. These are people in full time employment and in most cases; yep you guessed it, skill shortage jobs. So stuck in a country they can’t leave, no income and NZ businesses further hamstrung by bureaucratic nonsense.

    Faafoi is sitting on his hands regarding immigration because he has no doubt been told to. This is Labour’s way of quietly limiting immigration and it has clearly become their policy. He was also told to instead push the anti gay conversion legislation to keep the UN happy. This is all about Labour’s agenda and their so called transformation of NZ. Jacinda and Co naively believe that if there are no immigrants then Kiwis will take the jobs instead. It doesn’t matter if those Kiwis don’t bother to work as hard as an immigrant.   Outlandish? I have no idea. Depends what the new law says.
  
  IMO if I had a child who came home and said that it would be straight off to the psychiatrist. Oh no the waiting time to see a child psychiatrist in New Zealand is forever.
  
  I am no expert in this area but you would want to be damn sure your kid wasn’t just going through some weird phase before you gave her a bunch of drugs. In turn that requires access.. Urgent access to a multi disciplinary team of experts. Right now that is impossible. All you would get are some trans activists, a social worker and a lecture on Maori Science.
  
  This thing could be a train wreck with tragic results for children who are just confused..
  
  A last observation. This thing is TOTALLY different from a 14 year old saying she is gay. That is great and she should be supported and celebrated. Because at 24 she might decide that she is bi or whatever. None of that matters. Totally different to being given drugs and surgery. No coming back.

  The Kiwi duo played superbly, to win in straight sets. They become the first tennis players to win an Olympic medal for New Zealand. Anthony Wilding won a medal way back in 1912, but he was representing Australasia. File that away as a future pub quiz answer!
  
  The best result of the night however was the Fiji Women’s Sevens team beating the defending champions Australia in the quarter-finals. Fiji will now face the Black Ferns in the semi-finals later today.

  Personally I don’t think tennis should be in the Olympics, nor golf, baseball, football, basketball . . .
  The Olympics are the pinnacle involving the best players, and all those other sports have their own far more prestigious championships.

    Agreed. Personally I have two tests for whether a sport should be in the Olympics.
    
    Firstly, “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. If you can’t express your sport in terms of any of those three words then it doesn’t belong in the Olympics.
    
    Secondly, if an Olympic gold medal isn’t the pinnacle achievement in your sport then that sport shouldn’t be in the Olympics. I doubt many tennis players would choose an Olympic gold over winning Wimbledon … so to me tennis doesn’t make the cut.

The good folk of Otaki will be having voters’ regret today after electing Terisa Ngobi in October. According to her, Dr Harding, the young Otaki doctor being forced to leave New Zealand by Immigration NZ is going of his own volition:

The decision of a migrant GP caught in residency limbo to return home was “absolutely up to him”, says his local MP.

Last month Ōtaki Medical Centre GP Dr Harding Richards returned to the UK after a year in residency limbo, leaving behind more than 1300 patients registered to him.

Due to Covid-19, in 2020 the Government put a suspension on selections of expressions of interest in the skilled migrant category, leaving migrants in this pool without a clear pathway to residency.

Ōtaki Medical Centre chief executive Kiwa Raureti said Richards – a skilled GP and “conscientious” team player – had returned to Wales with his partner due to the lack of certainty around his future in New Zealand.

The practice had been forced to close its doors to new patients as a result.

Unable to lodge an expression of interest, his lack of residency status meant he was unable to purchase a home, or buy into the practice as he had hoped.

Labour MP for Ōtaki Terisa Ngobi said in a response to the Herald that Richards’ decision to return was “absolutely up to him there is no barrier there”.

Ms Ngobi has failed in her first test as an electorate MP. She’s simply run up the white flag, and even worse, is effectively washing her hands of the case by saying that Dr Harding made the decision to leave New Zealand.

Oh, how the people of Otaki will be wishing they had removed the scales from their eyes last October, and not just voted for Ngobi because of Jacinda Ardern. I heard the Labour candidate barely campaigned last year, but was effectively swept into Parliament on a red tide.

I hope Tim Costley stands again for National next year. He fought an energetic campaign, and was probably the candidate whose defeat surprised me the most. As a serving senior officer in the RNZAF, you can bet he would not have simply waved the white flag when things got tough, but he would have fought tooth and nail on Dr Harding’s behalf.

Every action has a consequence. The good folk of Otaki are realising that today, and so must voters in other electorates around the country that went red last year. With the Roy Morgan poll yesterday showing Labour would be down 15 MP’s on its election night tally, there will be some squeaky bums in Parliament when it returns next week. Roll on 2023.

  We live semi rurally and he knocked on the doors in our street, we were away at the time.
  
  Many of my clients and friends spoke with him and we often saw him out and about on foot even in the rain making his case, repairing his graffitied signs and carrying his message to the voters. The other one, nothing.

  Remember when the Labour candidates were selected in early 2020, their HO thought they could just hold on to the seats they had. That meant they chose a whole lot of candidates in National seats just to carry the flag. They were just spear carriers. If you had any skills or “ability”, you were shoehorned into a safe seat, even if it meant getting rid of the sitting member.
  With the big swing in voting, those second rate people got elected. A similar thing happened to National in 1975. And we are seeing the effect of the lack of member’s competence in the statements like Ms Ngobi makes.
  I do hope National reminds the electorate of the comments all the time. A large sign across the road from the Doctors’ rooms would bring it home.

  Since it is now obvious that the jab won’t necessarily prevent you both getting Covid19 or passing it on, I see no reason why anti-Covid19 vaxers should feel guilty.       I have traversed this before. The technology has been affirmed in the last twelve months through numerous replications world wide. It is only waiting on the commercial sector. There are enough patents out there now. The strangeness has gone. Hydrogen can be made to change its atomic state, as is common in chemical processes, and energy is released.

        Do you just count the scientific buzzwords and think that the less you understand, the more awesome it must be?
        
        I live and breath in the technology sector. There are some things up for debate, but some really are not (unless you bring a truck load of evidence to back you up):
        1) Energy does not come from nowhere. Excluding the first few milliseconds of the universe which we don’t really understand, you can’t make energy – all you can really do is transfer it from one state to another: chemical potential energy to heat, kinetic to potential, kinetic to electric etc.
        2) You can’t get energy out of something without the energy first being put in. For example: water is made of hydrogen, so why don’t we just burn water? Well unfortunately water is burned hydrogen. It has given up its useful energy when it combined with the oxygen. To make it back into burnable hydrogen requires that you put that energy back (+ a whole lot for inefficiency – aka waste, aka heat). This can be done with electrolysis but is inefficient (though the pie chomper lady wants to give it a go).

        There are indeed many ways to change hydrogen’s state (using the most general term here):
        * Remove an electron to make it into a hydrogen ion (aka proton).
        * Add neutrons to make “heavy” hydrogen. This has marginal impact on its chemical state.
        * Burn it (or otherwise combine it with other atoms) thereby typically (but not always) reducing its energy state and thus liberating heat.
        * “un-burn” it though electroysis etc to split it from other atoms to give it a higher energy state.
        
        Energy state can be though of in terms of a car on a hill. A car high up a hill can roll down the hill and release energy (note how the brakes got warm). When it gets to the bottom you can’t get to the top by stomping on the brakes. You need to push it up the hill again (ie. put the energy back in).
        
        I have read many of these patents. All that I have seen are complete bullshit. Please don’t be scammed by these people.

    Massive uptakes of plug in hybrids, but almost none were actually being plugged in.

Israel will offer citizens a third Pfizer jab as a booster in a world-first trial after recent studies indicated vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 is weakened against the Delta variant.

  All the vaccine manufacturers expected that this would be the case.
  
  The difficulty is in knowing how long the protection lasts in each individual. For most healthy people the protection should last at least 12 months, and possibly 24 months. But for immunocompromised people their immune systems don’t “hold” the Covid-19 protection for very long and so they will need their booster shots earlier – perhaps as frequently as every 6 months. The difficulty is in identifying all the immunocompromised people. Some are obvious (for example transplant recipients and chemotherapy patients) but many immunocompromised people don’t actually know their immune system isn’t in good shape.

  Childcare is an attendance model, simply turn up to a place of work for a few hours and no matter the pay rate or your future prospects or willingness, the government pays a large proportion of your childcare costs. Have another child by the time the first one is 6ys old and the cycle is repeated.
  
  You also get WFF until the youngest is 17yld, again for turning up to a place of work no matter what your prospects or willingness is.
  
  Here in Aussie when children are sick and don’t go to childcare a baby sitter is not used, as the mother simply stays at home using up her sick days, and then her holidays if she likes. Lots of women generally just fill there time in at work on low pay and employers are more than happy with the arrangement, as hubby is the main bread winner. Wives don’t demand pay rises as they see no need as the taxpayer supports them……..mass unproductiveness.
  Meanwhile young capable males are unemployed or under employed…….and all the trouble and cost that goes with that…..
  
  I can’t see anything changing for the better.

  For balance … the rate of breakthrough cases of Covid-19 is running at less than 0.1% of all vaccinated people. And that’s with the more contagious Delta variant being the prevalent strain.
  
  Also … while vaccinated people can still pass on the virus (and that was forecast by the vaccine manufacturers in 2020) they are only contagious for a much briefer time than the unvaccinated are. Rough comparison is vaccinated people will be contagious for 2-5 days, vs 2-5 weeks for the unvaccinated.

      I think it’s reasonable to expect about 5 unconfirmed cases for every confirmed case. But even then it looks like the total breakthrough cases would be less than 1% of vaccinated people so far.
      
      And the number of hospitalisations and deaths in vaccinated people is low. The numbers suggest the real-life experience is in line or better than the results of the Phase III trials, which were that the vaccines were about 95% effective at protecting you from hospitalisation or death. (Note the way they measure that 95% isn’t the same as the statistics behind the 0.1%-1% breakthrough rate – although both are percentages they’re calculated in quite different ways).

  0.05%?, I can’t see Orr doing that, he is the big statement guy. A sensible banker would maybe try 0.25%, or 0.50% before the next financial emergency hits and they roll it back, but Orr is likely to do 1.00% or 1.5%.
  They have to keep pumping the housing market to avoid crashing the economy and hoping China keeps buying meat and milk powder.

More than half a million vegans will be exempt if companies introduce compulsory vaccination rules in Britain because their beliefs are protected by employment law, legal experts have said.

So-called ethical veganism was ruled to be a protected characteristic at a tribunal last year, meaning employers would risk legal action if they order staff to be vaccinated.

Other people in protected categories are also likely to be protected by human rights laws, including some religious groups as well as people with certain disabilities or medical conditions.

A spokesman for Lewis Silkin, a law firm, said: “Some ethical vegans may disagree with vaccinations on the basis that they will inevitably have been tested on animals. Ethical veganism has previously been found by an [employment tribunal] to amount to a belief, capable of being protected.”

The protections mean that vegans forced to get a jab could mount a claim of constructive dismissal. Equality legislation may also make it difficult for companies to demand new hires are vaccinated if they fall within one of the categories.

Did Winston Peters in Westport yesterday make some comments of support for Pike River Families, or was that a fig-leaf of my imagination? I think it was reported on a couple of Newshub breaks on THREE yesterday evening, but there is no follow up I can see in today’s media websites.

Both Winston and Pike River may be issues people would like to fade from their memories – but is it democracy, or a purchased media?

The Greens are considering a new party structure that reflects “Te Tiriti representation” – possibly going right to the very top.
The party is considering whether its one male, one female structure is still fit for purpose.
Co-leader Marama Davidson told Newshub Nation on Saturday whatever the party chooses, it will be up to the membership.
“I’m really pleased to see some of the ideas coming from the members – one of the most exciting changes being proposed is prioritising Te Tiriri at all levels of our leadership and our party structure,” she told host Simon Shepherd.

Three questions –
1 – How would this work, and can the Treaty representing “co”-member veto the other?
2 – Must the Treaty member be a Maori?
3 – and deciding if this happens – “it will be up to the membership” – so that is presumably a majority rules decision on a partnership matter, so is that consistent or not?
