Every now and again media has a splurge on how a volcanic eruption could spoil an Auckland day a bit.
Auckland houses can cost thousands more because they have a view of Rangitoto out in the Gulf. So, on top of the utterly amazing cost for an Auckland house, a vastly added expense can leave you in direct line of sight and fire – unfathomable – some sort of Darwin’s Awards deal?
But if a greater part of Auckland has to exit the city, even without vaccination passes, how would that be handled? Just thinking in the shower, “Is there not already an exit plan for that?” Not the shower, but Auckland city?

    If you want to maintain your view of Rangitoto, then you negotiate covenants with properties that could potentially block your view. John Fernyhough wanted to do this but found the neighbour was not going to be brought off with a mere $20k and presumably John was not prepared to offer more (I would have wanted $2M in that sort of situation). In this instance Yvette has no property rights over a ‘view shaft’ from her house to the sea and that should not be a basis for objecting or appealing. Telecom (as it then was) tried to get microwave ‘view shafts’ included as limitations in the original Wellington District Plan but this was turned down (the extensive installation of fibre optic would have now made most of those microwave links redundant).

    Why Kiwiblog commentators find it so hard to understand the concept of property rights is a mystery for the ages. You do not have rights over your neighbour’s property – it belongs to them, not to you.

      I don’t agree with you grump but I am prepared to be corrected if what you say is true in law.
      I had a property that comprised sub-dividable land which could be allocated to three stand-alone individually owned homes. Prior to selling off two of the lots, I had a Legal Covenant drawn up that basically said that neither neighbour (I retained the middle property) could build a dwelling such that it closed out the sun or views of another of the properties. To the best of my knowledge, these Covenants are still extant. These properties have changed hands several times AFIK, including the one I retained for myself.

      There are limits to property rights.
      
      One of our lawyer readers can correct me, but doesn’t the Public Works Act give the State rights over private property? I think the police and even health authorities have powers that can over-ride private property rights.
      
      And when one property owner’s rights infringe on the rights of another, there has to be some authority with power to override one of, or both of, the property owners’ rights.
      
      I don’t agree agree with Marxists and other extreme socialists who follow the anarchist, Proudhon, view that all property is theft, but it’s obvious the rights that come with property ownership aren’t universally agreed upon.
      
      I’ve heard an academic whose speciality was valuation say that all NZ land, apart from some Maori land, is ultimately Crown property and that freehold is a tradeable right to hold. I didn’t understand that and still don’t, but grasp that libertarians aren’t necessarily infallible about property rights.

    Become? Always have been. Shy, retiring little Kiwis with cradle-to-grave government provision, always eager to sacrifice freedom for security. We have a strong cultural bias towards compliance and conformity. Ardern might have cynically exploited the Team of Five Million mantra but it’s long been part of our DNA. Her recent statement that she’s happy to divide us into two classes, the vaxxed and unvaxxed, shocking as it might seem is nothing more than her ability to read the room. It’s nasty, but it works. And it works because as a nation we’re usually pretty happy to throw backsliders under the bus.
    
    Not many of us seem to look inwards at our collective psychology but I bet the big psychiatrist in the sky would love to get us on the couch.

      Friends yesterday asked me why i think i know better when we employ all these experts. I nearly choked, I didn’t bother mentioned the overseas experts who are calling this out. They think JA is doing a good job and we should all just go along with it. Smart people. Made me feel sick.

      Getting an app ready for review will take two weeks idk how it would be done quicker unless we were just going to buy the rights to distribute an IP that has already been developed, link it to the New Zealand Covid database and slap on a new logo…. that would be my guess.
      Might be some privacy issues involved in accessing everyone’s records, so maybe they could push out some buggy jank by the 24th of December that would pass apple review but i wouldn’t be keen on using it.
      Should have insisted on getting a vaccination card like a certain someone did when they heard there were no passport apps in development aye 🙂

        I did have a look at a friend of mines card. He has had his vaccine, but, his card has his date of birth wrong, and also name spelt wrong…
        
        Good luck trying to reconcile that with a drivers licence if this is used as a passport and a cross check is required.

      If they were to actually enumerate and detail these items of “misinformation” then, because they likely couldn’t be refuted, people may start to question all they’ve been told by the “accredited” sources. Best to just dismiss it without discussion while throwing a label at those bringing it up.

      Clownworld: Operation Warp Speed was actually a very good response to the pandemic. Not perfect, but in global emergencies nothing generally is.
      
      Pfizer does sort of sound somewhat like a corporate bully but I would like to see a candid response, in person, from their CEO, to the various accusations against them. There may be things we don’t know.

    It is irrelevant that National have “picked” December 1, because they have no say in the matter. It’s also not a logical date, it’s just the first day of December, which is purely arbitrary. The point is, we can’t wait for the government, and certainly not the opposition, to decide when the tyranny ends.

Were the vaccine mandates debated in parliament? That 17 year old restaurant employees have to vaxx up so the 65 years old obese can feel safe.

Why was this not in parliament? (unless it was??)

Something as fundamental as mandating vaxxs. Who is running NZ. Pfizer?

  My young friend has just given in and had the first jab. He’s a uni student and needs the holiday work to survive. He has few options as his parents live remotely and there is only one employment option in the settlement. The pressure (bullying) from the employer (who has no other options in terms of people to employ – its a remote lodge) and his own family has finally seen him cave.
  Hopefully he doesn’t suffer side effects, as many young men his age are. It certainly doesn’t constitute what is intended by “informed consent”, he is devastated.

    Ultimately though, he caved. Which is the plan, of course. “Bullying” has no legal force. If you’re not willing to stand up and sacrifice now, then there is nothing that you won’t agree to in the future (and that is also in the pipeline).

      you are right. But he is 20 and has no income – he could go live at his gf’s but I imagine he feels that’s not much of an option. So yes, i agree. But i’m in my 40s and its bloody hard to hold my position when everyone i talk to outside my family is super pro vax.

      According to the CDC the survival rate for <17 is 99.995%
      Please note that for the <12 statistically they have more risk from the vaccine than from Covid- vulnerable people excepted

        The FDA Advisory Panel discussion and vote two weeks ago (note 8hrs long) for 5-11 year olds makes for very sobering viewing, especially the Open Forum at between 4-5 hrs in. Sobering viewing because unlike in law there appears to be no clear threshold of proof (i.e. beyond reasonable doubt) for the 18 panel members to make their determination. Also any conflicts of interest are not an automatic reason to exclude the panel members.       I agree Jack. IMO her aim is for NZ to become a Socialist State in the South Pacific. In achieving her aim, she has to run with two packs of hounds (Socialists/Communists and Maori) whilst trying to pacify those who don’t agree with the aims of either of these packs that she’s in charge when clearly, she’s not.
      Certainly, she’s the mouthpiece for the Socialist/Communist pack but I don’t think she speaks for Maori on any of their destructive desires.
      Those hounds that comprise the Maori Caucus are being very devious in their efforts and trot out anyone from their caucus to verbally address their destructive desires. At present, the Head Hound appears to be Mahuta, and whilst she may cede the 3 Waters dictates due to popular and Courts demands, there are plenty more devious hounds within that Caucus who will not cede to anything in their destructive desires for not only Maori Separatism but total Maori Governance.

  If Parliament is a trifling inconvenience, and has so little to with Ardern’s edicts and proclamations, and the Treaty of Waitangi appears to have as little relevance, what is the validity of the attention paid to either.
  
  If Parliament and the Treaty have so little impact in present life and death decisions, is Parliament a dead Duck, and the Treaty just a very poorly written real-estate agreement, now totally out of date?

Are New Zealander’s as stupid as Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister believes or do they think being played and ridiculed is the right tactics our Country and shows just what a clever Prime Minister she is.
So either way there is only going to be one result that your children, Grand children and future Generations will have to pay,
Monetary and Health wise for decades to come and that’s without the division and damage that will follow through unwise and ill thought out policies like Three Waters reform to our population through race.
Our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is doing everything in her power to make sure she leaves a legacy whether good or bad and have our nation divided against each other, but worst of all is the lies and innuendo she keeps telling or covering up on stories like the facebook polls which border on corruption or films on herself on the terrorist attack, with answers like “I have no knowledge or awareness of that” when most people believe she has been the instigator in her quest for power and fame.

  The government has talked up the fear, imposed the conditions and attempted to divide the community. The government needs to take responsibility for the outcome.
  
  Anyone else suspect the government only began considering how to reintegrate Auckland with the rest of New Zealand when the media started reporting that Aucklanders were wanting to know how they would get out for their summer holidays?

      They have had a ready work around for the constitutionality of barring unvaccinated people from flying, eating out, shopping, etc by getting the private enterprises to impose it themselves. Just a small hint of not getting any covid subsidy to business and they cave. I will make a point that when this is all over never to support a business that is willing to implement apartheid even if it means flying Jetstar and binning my “loyalty” points from Air NZ. 5). Still wants a hard border for Auckland when everyone is telling her not to. There is no way of having a hard border and making it easy to go through.

The constant denying of any knowledge of various ‘dubious activity’ surrounding Ardern raises a few questions.
Not supposedly knowing about issues like; Labour Youth camp sexual assault, alleged sexual assault within her office, the film They are Us based on her and now, use of tax payer funds to research her Facebook site.
To me it raises two questions, is she that easy manipulated, or is she that manipulative – Either way it does show the precarious position NZ is in when we are in her hands.

Getting Kiwis home for Christmas

The “sandbox” solution.
Used by other countries inc Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, et a;

How does it work.
Set Queenstown as a “sandbox”

NZ citizens/permanent residents etc can fly direct from overseas in to Queenstown.
Requirements:
They are fully vaccinated. Ie more than 14 days after 2nd Jab.
Come from one of the 46 low risk countries.
They have a negative test before departing on their flight(same as currently)
They have a confirmed booking at a hotel(any of the 240 odd hotels/motels) in Queenstown.
They must remain in Queenstown for 5 days and get a negative test on day 5.
So they can play in the Queenstown Sandbox, eat, drink, do all the normal things. Think Level 1.

Then they can depart other parts of NZ.

Family members, also with a negative test/vaccine can join them for the 5 days.

What needs to happen.
1) Customs/immigration needs to be restaffed as before Covid restrictions.
2) DHB needs to up its testing capacity or delegate it to Medical Centres in Queenstown.
3) Hotels need to produce “”packages”” for inbound Kiwis to package
4) Hospitality has to ramp up staffing along with all the feeder services.
5) Minister of immigration needs to allow extra Hospitality staff to be recruited in from low risk Covid Countries
6) Airlines need to schedule Flights.
This may require a plane change at Auckland/Christchurch (think transit flights) as Large aircraft cannot land at Queenstown(Think B737, A320)
Given the opportunity, the airlines will find a way.
7) A locals identification needs to be made available so locals can transit the road entry/exit checkpoint.
SH6 at Shotover Bridge? And SH6 somewhere past the Remarkables (Drift Bay?)
8) 90% of Queenstown residents and workers to be double jabbed. (Southern DHB reports 80% already Double jabbed)

So how many Kiwis could come home this way?

Given some time to Ramp up and a decision made to be to be effective from 1st December.

AIrNZ can accommodate 150-170 Passengers per flight on each A320.

Queenstown Airport can handle 1 million passenger arrivals per year(2019 Report)
That equates to 128 inbound flights a week/(or some 18,000 homebound kiwis)
Even at half that capacity, any Kiwi that wanted to would be home by Christmas.

The ONLY thing that the Government needs to do is give Permission and then stand aside.
The private sector will sort out the logistics.

Benefits.
Kiwis Coming Home when they want without the stupid MIQ system.
Unload Auckland overload problems.
Move any possibility of an overseas Covid case to a restricted area.
Get Business working again in Queenstown and ready for International Tourism
More Flights for Air NZ to keep their coffers topped up.

Think of it as New Zealands Dunkirk- Get our People Home, everyone can help.

  I’d like to be able to spend Christmas with my family too, but as yet I don’t know if I’ll be allowed out of the locked down area. I’d like to be able to use the tickets we’ve booked to fly to another part of this country and see them.

It was widely reported that the Pfizer vaccine is fully approved by the FDA . So why did they not apply for full approval in NZ? Why did they only rollover an extension on their provisional approval for 2 years.
If it is safe and effective then why wasn’t it submitted for full approval. What doubts do they still have? Can you mandate a medicine that neither the drug company (full indemnity contract) nor the government (won’t give full approval) are willing to stake their names on.

      You should note though, even though the vaccinated for all groups over age 30 are more likely to test positive for Covid, the rates of presentation to ER and deaths are significantly lower. So the “vaccine” is reducing the severity of symptoms and deaths.
      
      Also worth noting the the rate of ER presentations for <18 is very low (5/100K for unvaccinated), and deaths is approx 0/100K which means <0.1/100K. Deaths for <30 is also pretty close to zero given that the numbers apparently include vulnerable people with existing comorbidities.
      
      Surely a decent program of prophylactic treatment would remove the need for anyone under 30 without significant comorbidities from even needing the vaccine ? Why can they simply not even consider that option ?

BTW CC has produced many positives. Food being grown in areas where it didnt grow to feed the planets growing population. In England superb wine being produced as far north as Hadrians Wall just like in Roman times almost 2000 years ago and may I remind you well before the Industrial Revolution. Not forgetting that Greenland was green over a 1000 years ago with sheep and cattle grazing it.

SO the government has just appointed the vendor who will be developing the C19 passport app (using blockchain by the looks of it) Spark subsidiary Mattr.

Problems:
1.) They have about 6 weeks before places will be at 90% single vax will be fully vaxed, I don’t see how this app will be ready in 6 weeks.
2.) This is relying on mostly on everyone having a smartphone for it. Not everyone does.
While they do plan to have a paper version, they don’t have a method of ensuring that piece of paper Joe has, it Joe’s paper and not Pete’s paper.

So apparently (according to today’s Horrid Online) 91 nurses in Wellington are refusing to advise their vaccine status. They will cease to be employed next week presumably.
The article goes on to mention that are already 400 vacancies for nurses at CCDHB. There is no joining of dots to wonder whether its a good idea to fire another 91 (when you could just do daily rapid antigen tests instead).

Must be great to have such a healthy population that you can afford to be nearly 500 nurses down.

  We have much more power than many of us probably think, and the government knows this. In the US, the mandate was announced but not put on the books. Why? So nobody could challenge it (it wasn’t law) but would expect it to become law, so many acquiesced. Now they’ve pushed it out again for the same reasons: they expect people to give in and get the shots prior to any enforcement being possible, so they have an ever diminishing group they need to enforce against. The reality is that no mandate (threatened or enforceable) can actually be enforced if the numbers are just too high to do so. They cannot cut the workforce in any jurisdiction by even 10% and expect the system to remain functional.

On the matter of a Royal Commission of Inquiry into The Governments Response to Covid 19.
The Commissioners should be 3 retired High Court Judges from the UK. They will be independent and aware of NZ law. Their TOR should be the first sentence of this post.
They should be able to call anyone and everyone they chose to give evidence under oath. They should have unfettered access to all Government documents. They should have the power to recommend any person to be prosecuted for misfeasance in public office or for failing to carry out their duties in public office.

  As far as I know, NZ mandates ALL animals slaughtered, Halal or not, to be stunned and rendered insensible before slaughter. And as far as I know, that is done except possibly for on-farm kills where the usual method is a headshot – usually with a bolt gun, which is immediate death anyway.
  
  Indonesia probably has no such rules. We had to argue that with the Halal authorities before it was accepted.

  I don’t have any issues with state housing tenants being spread through “affluent” suburbs. The vast majority of state housing tenants are good hard working citizens who just can’t afford market rents
  
  What I don’t support is KO changing the rules at behest of Jacinda to not align state housing tenants to the normal behaviours required of an tenant (public or private) so that scum end up causing govt sanctioned chaos
  
  Also think for the good tenants in those higher density KO suburbs as they can’t afford legal advice, take KO to court etc

        Pepper potting does mean the state housing ferals don’t have to travel as far to do their burglaries and car thefts. Having lived in a nice suburb next to a HNZ KO reservation, it was the source of all the crime in the area.

Re this persistent Auckland border. I note how Ardern has said it “Aucklanders will be able to travel over Xmas and Jun/summer”. Is this giving her an out to re-introduce it come eo Summer? If she thinks she can close it down again after there will be hell to pay. Also, I cannot for the life of me see them mandating a neg test result before travel. That testing will need to be carried out, what, <48h prior to travel. Given Xmas is a hard deadline, can you see 10,000 tests being taken on Dec 21 & 22 with results needed before travel on Dec 23 & 24? What a joke. My guess…. they'll keep the facade of borders and will only want to catch a glimpse of the vax passport as you pass by. It's the only sensible way if we MUST have borders. Oh wait. Personally I'd chuck them away as we must with MIQ. Frozen by fear is what they are. Hendy and Baker can bugger off with their scare & media whore tactics.

I watched the Blackcaps squeeze the life out of Afghanistan last night.
It’s an interesting team that has the best bowling attack if the measure is runs/over conceded, but no superstars.
That means their efficient batting attack doesn’t have to play like madmen to compose a winning score. Apart from Guptill’s one big score I don’t recall much else standing out amid a succession of thirties.

  I don’t know who’s doing the modelling but that is just bull! In the United States just over 400 children and teenagers, aged 0 to 17, have died of Covid. As a percentage of Covid deaths that is 0%. Extending the vaccine coverage to 5-year-olds will not make a bit of difference. So the modelling is crap.
  
  But it is interesting that they are wanting to ramp up facilities for those who will die of Covid. Really we have spent $100 billion, flattened the economy, put aside all other health considerations and taken away all of our personal freedoms, to delay things a bit. We have spent two years delaying things. Covid is coming through New Zealand and we are just going to have to learn to live with it.
  
  Meanwhile in other countries, such as England, they have had Covid and now they are over it. Watching the Premier league soccer they have full crowds and no one in the crowd is wearing a mask. They are just resuming normal life. We need to resume normal life. We have to learn to live with Covid. Get up every morning, say your prayers, and get on with life.

    In the UK, the current death rate for <12 is less than 0.05 per 100,000 (reported as zero and reporting is to nearest 0.1 rounded). Those <20 it is around 0.3 per 100K including the already compromised.

From a paper by former RBNZ official Ian Harrison ‘As the physical effects of climate change are slow-moving and relatively predictable over relevant time horizons, we should expect the financial systems to adapt to this changing world and readily accommodate the impacts of climate events,”
“Most of the claims that floods, storms, fires and sea-level change will generate system-level risks are not based on serious analysis and proper stress tests by overseas banks are showing that losses will be very low,” it said.
Orr’s claims to the contrary are an overreaction and “motivated more by attention-seeking than the science and sound economics”, said Harrison.
The RBNZ “deliberately hid their report (which contradicted Orr’s exaggerated claims) for months and misled people seeking it under the OIA to promote its new, more catastrophist narrative”, he claims.

New Zealand is on the edge of a major educational crisis come the 16th November.

Newly formed NZTSOS Inc., a large group of pro-choice education professionals will be taking legal action against the Mandatory Vaccination Order in the High Court tomorrow, 10 am, Monday 8th November 2021. This is in an effort to stop the No Vaccination, No Job for those affected in the vast field of education across New Zealand.

NZTSOS spokesperson Mike Shaw said, “New Zealand is on the edge of an educational crisis as thousands of teachers in schools and ECE, principals, education support workers, wellbeing staff, afterschool care staff, grounds staff, coaches, and administrators will be forced to leave their job and the craft they love come the 16th November. This Government has totally underestimated the groundswell of resistance to their strong-arm tactics and they have wrongly assumed that we educators are on board with their agenda”.

He went on to say; “We are fortunate to have a very experienced legal team leading the charge tomorrow in the High Court in Wellington, and we are determined to hold our ground and not be forced out of our jobs”. A decision on stage one of the case is expected before the end of the week.

The dream run of Jacinda Ardern’s Labour Government’s seems well and truly over. The highs of last year’s historic election result and the ongoing triumph of beating Covid have quickly evaporated. This is not just apparent from the last two months of disappointing Covid management, but also from the weekend’s annual party conference, which failed to reset and inject dynamism back into Labour.

Conferences are meant to be forums for debate, vibrancy, renewal and recalibration. But Labour’s conference this year was none of these things: it was a damp squib. You’ll search in vain to find much positive commentary or excitement coming out of it. Those who observed the party over the weekend were universally underwhelmed.

Of course, part of the reason for this was Covid. The party decided not to have an in-person conference and instead do it all online in a highly truncated and virtual way. This meant it was barely a conference at all – and more of a minor membership meeting and a chance for yet another Jacinda Ardern livestream.

The Prime Minister’s conference speech was summed up as “boring” by one political editor. Another correspondent said the mood of the whole event as “solemn, sober, utterly unspectacular”. Just as we are achieving very high vax levels does anyone get the feeling that the govt doesn’t know what to do with them?

Australia is opening up. And they did it at 80% double dose in some states. Overseas travel is opening up in those places.

We are:
– clinging onto MIQ
– thinking of limiting travel in and out of Auckland at Christmas
– brandishing a traffic light system with no detail on what it would take to move between the levels. Could get stuck in red for all we know.

NSW went for a set of measures at 70% double dose, then liberalised them at 80%. They are the same across the state at 80% (there were limitations on travel to remote areas at 70%).

Everywhere here is over 80% single dose, and 5 DHBs are over 80% double dose. More will follow soon, and some will hit 90% double dose before long.

But we look like pissing about for months.

No, it isn’t ideal, although my understanding is that the cause relates to it being shallow and that the reason it turned orange wasn’t totally understood.
The veteran environmental activist, Steve Abel, says, “the cormorants, you have to wonder what those guys feed on.”
The obvious answer is they feed on fish and as there are three cormorants, it suggests a number of them.
Just looked at some photographs showing a cormorant eating a large koi carp.

We go months with hardly any covid deaths and suddenly a rash of deaths of ppl at home and one in MIQ. Why are these people not in hospital? It is clear from the mistakes made by the US that aggressive early treatment is essential – don’t just send people home until they are critically ill.

  A) The deaths are from other causes, but if unvaccinated we will hear all about how they were “covid” deaths.
  
  B) The deaths are from other causes, but if they were vaccinated we’ll hear no more about it. And certainly not if they were double jabbed.
  
  This is when open and honest dialogue is needed. What was the ACTUAL cause of death, I don’t need to know if they have the “covid” virus, herpes virus, Hep B virus or any other virus.
  If it was anything other than covid then the word shouldn’t even be used in the article. In fact, it shouldn’t even appear in the media. No other “normal” deaths are reported.

Yet another reason why the Government probably has no real intention of making any checks on Aucklanders crossing the borders in December (in addition to a workable version of the Vaccination Passport being rolled out by December being in the realms of fantasy) – what happens to the thousands of unvaccinated children under the age of 12?
I presume that families will want to take their children with them?
At present the answer cannot be that children throughout NZ remain unvaccinated – and that therefore the Auckland children are no different – and should therefore be able to travel regardless – because Covid is not yet widespread outside of Auckland.
I cannot help wondering whether Labour is hoping that well before Christmas Covid has spread throughout NZ.

Another death with Covid – this time in MIQ. The article doesn’t report his vaccination status.

Does his international plane travel mean he was fully vaxxed?
He arrived on Nov 3. How long ago did he get his second vax?
The death appeared to be a medical event and has been referred to the coroner to determine if the cause may have been covid related.

The last two deaths with covid were also at home. Both referred to the coroner but they seem to have been added to the statistics already which are now at 31.
The last two deaths were also reported without the vaccination status disclosed. The Mt Eden man’s friend however was quoted in one article as saying he was double vaccinated.

Stuff has retracted that comment. It now reads: “Clarification: An earlier version of this story included a comment from Mr Borland stating the man who died was fully vaccinated. His vaccination status is not yet know and the Ministry of Health has provided no information on this. Updated 8 November, 10.15am.”

  The first wave of covid deaths will be pretty high as those with serious co-morbidities and weaker unvaxxed people succumb quickly (prepare for the ‘oh poor me wish i had vaccinated’ stories in the media).
  
  Timing of the first wave depends when they end lockdowns and regional borders. First wave will be less severe if we open up now …. because summer….wouldn’t want to time the first wave to hit in winter but that looks to be exactly what government are planning through molasses inaction.

name one National PM whose partner, in the middle of a pandemic, with the largest city in lockdown for close to 3 months, would launch their own ‘Moving Houses’ TV show.
Clarke Gayford’s show is basically thumbing its nose at every kiwi struggling through lockdown – ‘look at me – what lockdown – I don’t have to worry about my income or my business going to the wall’.
If he wasn’t a Labour PM’s partner the media would have been complaining loudly about this.

3rd revelation – Auckland likely to move to traffic light system after 29 Nov cabinet meeting (so either Wed 1st or 8th, I guess, though she seems to be leaning to the earlier date).

She’s talking it up as all 3 Auckland DHB’s are now at 90% first vaxxed and 29 Nov is 3 weeks away. It’s being described as “pragmatic”.

The border decision is “a separate one”. It’s not just about Auckland, it’s about the status of the rest of the country…”

For the summer break and Christmas, Aucklanders will be able to leave Auckland. But they need “protections” for the rest of the country.

I really don’t see how those two things are compatible. It’s either safe to let Aucklanders out, or it isn’t.

Exactly. What are these “protections”? Not that they are silent on whether “unvaccinated” people can leave Auckland.

It will be fascinating.

Scenario 1 – Unvaccinated people can leave Auckland. But they will not be able to enter venues, stay in camping grounds or any kind of accommodation. That will be restricted to those with vaccination certificates.

Scenario 2 – Unvaccinated people cannot leave Auckland. Logistical nightmare.

      Not wanting to burst your BOI bubble Benedict but you have seen what’s needed for Northland to get to 90% 1st jab, let alone 2nd haven’t you. For #1 it’s almost 1/2 of the country’s number of ~33K that the PM quoted today for the 14 DHB’s not yet at 90% #1. Last local projection I saw was Jan (poss Feb). And just remember the PM’s been happy to keep us locked up here north of Auckland since mid August. So wouldn’t surprise me for her to let rest of country go if they get there and hold Northland out.

  My mate at Motumaoho amalgamated two farms into one. He has two farm dairies (cowsheds). The farms are on either side of the Aukati, the confiscation line from 1865. That is the boundary between the Matamata-Piako district and the Waikato district. If the missus wants to shop in Hamilton she must use the number two farm tanker track. If she wants to shop in Morrinsville she must use the number one farm tanker track.

But can go inside shops and shopping malls for hours at a time, which presumably has more people in close proximity than one bathroom at a friend’s house.

        I got a certificate showing my vaccinations in May, on MoH letterhead and with all the details. To the extent that anybody has taken any notice of it over here, it has been perfectly adequate. The EU QR code is convenient if you have a smartphone, but you can only get it if you have been vaxxed locally.
        This whole vaccine passport is a bit of bollocks, TBH. It’s just another tool to try to impose vaccine apartheid.

So our neighbour is renovating his house. Has building permit and contractors work on it during the day (he obviously has little money so has hired as few people as possible meaning this will take a long time).

After 6pm , he comes and works on it too, and on Saturdays and Sundays. Hammering, sawing, the usual type of construction noise.

I phoned council noise control about what is allowed …. they say it is against the rules for contractors to make loud noise after 6pm … .but, if he makes the noise himself then it is ‘DIY’ and allowed….even if it is the same level of noise.

So, noise is allowed depending on ‘who’ makes the noise.

Getting frustrating, 4th adjacent neighbour to rebuild or make significant renovations….we’ve pretty much had constant construction noise over 4 years.

Government buying the media, here and abroad: Dem Bill Gives Special Tax Handout to Media Companies with Up to 1,500 “Local Journalists”

The reconciliation bill working its way through the U.S. House calls on the American taxpayer to subsidize Democrats’ media allies. The bill provides a special tax cut for the media under the guise of helping “local journalists” but eligible media companies will receive the funds for up to 1,500 reporters per company.

This provision would provide a refundable payroll tax credit equal to 50 percent of wages up to $12,500 per quarter per employee for the first four calendar quarters and a 30 percent credit for each calendar quarter thereafter.

On page 1,957 of the 2000+page bill, section 138516 would create a tax credit for news organizations, including newspapers and broadcasters such as radio and television:

It appears that both NPR and PBS will be eligible to receive this special tax handout. The bill specifically mentions that the credit is not to be applied to “the Government of the United States, the government of any State or political subdivision thereof, or any agency or instrumentality of any of the foregoing”; however there is an exception for public broadcasting entities as defined in the Communication Act of 1934.

The bill also appears to be a big-media power play against small, one-person local outfits. The bill specifically excludes journalists who do not have “media liability insurance.” This could be a cost barrier for many individuals seeking to truly cover local events in their community.

Bloomfield on hospitalization stats.

Bloomfield said they’re this week looking at hospitalisations, because some are people who are assessed in ED and sent home, but are there longer than 3 hours and counted as a hospitalised case. This will likely reduce the number.

He said the limiting part of hospital care is ICU beds, there are just seven people in ICU today with over 100 beds available in Auckland. Bloomfield said current rates are well within the bounds of hospital capacity.

Bloomfield repeated some classified as hospitalisations aren’t in a hospital bed or have Covid but aren’t in hospital for Covid.

The ICU number is most important and it’s low at the moment – just seven.

  Did Bloomfield finally tell us how many in hospital are double vaxxed?…
  He and Our Dear PM were fudging around trying to ascertain this info when questioned about it at the 4pm briefing…. but hadn’t provided an answer by the time TV One crossed away from the podium.

Gotta love these vax mandates – a months paid leave and then you can get the jab and keep your job.

Question then is, do you get another month paid leave if you refuse the second jab?

The great flip-flop begins. The 90% target is unachievable, so now they are going to go to the traffic-light thing as it might be more persuasive. I bet the words “aspirational target” will be bandied about soon, if they haven’t been already.
Thanks again New Zealand, for a great big post-breakfast laugh. It’s up there with people counting as a Covid hospitalisation if they are in ER for more than 3 hours.
How can you as a country stand the embarrassment?

I applied for a written confirmation of being fully vacinated about a week ago. It was a very easy process. Got the letter via email. All I had to do was tell them the dates of my vaccinations. What I want to know once this passport arrives will my letter be null and void. Frankly dont like like the idea of the passport sounds like the first step to an ID card. Does anybody know?
