How politically neutral and in fact truthful is Stuffs Political Editor Luke Malpass with headlines like this.
“Ignore the knockers NZ’s in good shape ahead of the Covid spread”.
Well many would disagree with statements like this with our Hospitals and Health Ministry under staffed and getting worse by the day because of the mandate on vaccinations which is resulting in the loss of many staff and our economy is anything but in good shape with thosands of businesses going to the wall during this outbreak.
Then you have to look at the money our Finance Minister has borrowed that future Generations will asked to pay , so to say New Zealand is in good shape is bullshit ant dam right lies.

  Just look at names that Collins or Seymour gets called that the mods let thru…but try calling Ardern by anything even slightly off and your comment wont make it onto screen. Also its obvious they have a list of pre approved commenters and they are all Labour apologists who manage to put up a dozen replies in minutes where any comment from off the list takes hours to be approved.

Wow. Austria has gone full bio dictatorship: –

This escalation reached its climax today: All of a sudden, the government has announced a “full lockdown” beginning on Monday for all of Austria, as well as a “fixed” general vaccine mandate from February 2022 (coincidentally corresponding to the end of flu season)1. This also means forced “boosters” for everyone who thought they were finished after the first two jabs.

Now we have a “lockdown for the unvaccinated,” who are no longer allowed to enter various stores and public spaces and have to provide reasons to the police about why they are leaving their homes. Austrian police officers now demand Corona certificates from people walking in the backwoods of Upper Austria, and they patrol Viennese supermarkets to make sure that the unvaccinated pariahs are indeed buying only food, not toys (this is not a joke)

In Vienna, the state has already embarked on the next stage of psychological terror, by removing the power to decide from the hands of the unvaccinated entirely, and booking “vaccine appointments” against their will.

All this is because the ‘vaccines’ do not work as promised, as this analysis from Germany shows so well. Are they more accelerant than fire hose? It’s looking that way.

Closer to home, I’m sure Ardern looks longingly at the unbridled power of these grown up tyrants, wondering how she might better them.

We should be concerned. Too many New Zealanders seem intent on complying their way out of this metastasizing tyranny when compliance, much like mass vaccination, makes things worse. Much, much worse.

    My wife is Austrian, her grandfather was shot by the SS in Jan 1940 at Mauthausen for being a member of the Austrian Resistance.
    
    She is concerned nonetheless.
    
    Similar moves are happening in Germany in the Bunderstag, the Czech Republic and other EU countries. Even the European Court of Justice is accepting that it is constitutional for governments to mandate the compulsory ordering that citizens must be given Covid vaccines for the “greater good”.
    
    The real crimes though are governments forcing their citizens to take vaccines that aren’t much better than saline solution, while nig Pharma makes billions for their dud products.

        That link is to one of the best researched sites I’ve come across in the last year. There is a quirky writing style that permeates every post. Particularly the deliberate lack of capitals in the first word of any sentence.
        More to the point, you and those who still steadfastly support Ardern and her horrible handling of this thing are becoming desperate in your defence of her, and it is blindingly obvious for any rational thinker to see. You never address the content, always try to smear the source. Just like the NZ mainstream media actually.
        It’s a trait that is becoming widely recognised. Keep it up. You are actually helping others become aware of the realities of the dangers we are descending into.
        Oh, and comparisons to previous tyrannical regimes are fully justified. Ardern’s situation would be very similar to Germany circa 1932. Tyrannies rarely start with trains and gas. But they generally all start with propaganda, control of media, drafting of dangerous legislation, division of population and vilification and persecution of minorities. Sound familiar?

    A couple of points.
    
    I must have read hundreds of studies on COVID and the vaccines. In some cases fully and in some cases only the executive summary. I can confidently claim that the vaccines are not working as originally expected. Just to be clear, I was enthusiastically vaccinated.
    
    And of course the acts of this government cannot be compared to Nazi Germany.
    
    But it is valid to compare the methods and messages of this government to totalitarian regimes, including Nazi Germany.
    
    The most notorious was when the Prime Minister incredulity said of COVID “if you don’t hear it from the Government it is not the truth”. That could have come straight from Goebbels himself.

        Obviously we are not like Nazi Germany, but you seem to be missing the point: When people start believing that the state is the ‘single source of truth’ we’re on a journey towards totalitarianism that is hard to turn back from. Key elements are in place: fear, a ‘leader’ with a saviour complex, a compliant media, a sub-population who can be marginalised and vilified and now, a means of close surveillance being promulgated in the name of keeping us safe.       BY I would say if you looked at Germany in 1932 we are in a very similar place. Add colour images, better marketing and PR. We always think of concentration camps and trains. That isn’t how Germany looked in ’32, the rest happened to the astonishment of the rest of the world at the time, and even today we ask how it could possibly have happened.
      History is for learning from. Those who don’t are destined to repeat it as the saying goes.

      Perhaps they don’t, but…my mother-in-law, 79 refused to be vaccinated; got infected about two weeks ago, is now in quite a serious condition and using oxygen concentrator to maintain reasonable oxygen saturation. Not sure how things will develop there. She’s living with my sister-in-law, 61 who is vaccinated with Pfizer, but is also infected. More or less at the same time as her mother. Sister-in-law has almost no symptoms and functions normally. Both are at home (overseas) and subject to home quarantine.

        Out of interest, how recently was her sister-in-law vaxed? Just that for a short period you have monster immunity, then it wanes, hence the boosters. So one assumes she’s OK because of that. Her problem will be when we get a variant established here that escapes the vax-induced narrow spectrum immunity she temporarily has.
        
        Not to mention her vulnerability to all kinds of conditions as a result of a reduction in immune system function over the long term…

        Sorry to hear of that and I wish them both well and a speedy recovery. I am not criticising the points you are making but it is anecdotal. Also there is a significant age difference. If you look at the outcomes in age bands it clearly shows once you get over 70 the risk is getting up there. Over 80 is something like 14% risk of dying.
        It’s becoming clear there are many factors involved in outcomes for anyone becoming infected. Age, underlying conditions, obesity being the main danger factors.
        In your mother in law’s case there is almost no doubt she would have a better outcome if she were vaccinated. I’ve certainly never disputed that it helps those at highest risk.
        As per above, I hope it all goes well for them.

        Your mother-in-law could have caught the seasonal flu before needing oxygen. She could certainly die from the flu. The average life expectancy for females in NZ is 83.5 years (it’s 85 years in Australia), which means that many women die before, and in some cases well before, that age.

        My 79 year old mother refuses to be vaxxed. But then she has never had a cold in her life let alone a flu so she will hopefully do ok. But a friends 72 yr old father, otherwise just as healthy, died a day after the vax. There are benefits and harms both ways.

      Further to that, the Britannica description of fascism includes:

We are having extraordinary restrictions placed on freedoms we took for granted barely 2 years ago. Maori control over health spending, water and local body politics is happening apace.
      
      The desire to create a Volksgemeinschaft (German: “people’s community”), in which individual interests would be subordinated to the good of the nation: vaccine passports, limits on movement, stranding of nz citizens overseas, no jab no job. All individual interests that have been subordinated, ostensibly for the national good.
      
      If you can’t see fascism staring you in the face, you’re not looking.

      Just one look at NZ stats confirm that the vaccine is doing a stellar job.
      
      As of yesterday – despite now being the vast majority of the country – only 18 fully immunised people IN TOTAL have been admitted to hospital following the recent outbreak. In contrast 354 non-fully immunised people have been hospitalised.
      
      It doesn’t get much clearer than that.

  Both Austria and Germany have possibly the lowest vaccination rates in Europe. I’m guessing that’s because many people in both countries take the Nuremberg Code rather seriously. The Nuremberg Code came out of WWII where some doctors exploited their position and experimented on people who were not fully informed and therefore were unable to give genuine consent.

  The Pfizer vaccine doesn’t come close to satisfying this condition. Not being provided with relevant information (for example, the Health Ministry here was concerned about the vaccine’s safety in January 2021 but failed to informed the public; the Ministry also failed to disclose the trial results which showed a significantly higher incidence of Bells Palsy among those given the vaccine vis-a-vis those receiving the placebo), and the fact that one may well be sacked from one’s job if one doesn’t comply, are both serious violations of the Code.

  There is concerning data of negative effectiveness for the vaccines after six months or so (roughly). Is it possible that this is because the vaccinated take more risks, believing themselves immune when they are not? The alternative is that the vaccines interfere with imunity somehow, but the first explanation is a simpler one.

    Those aren’t mutually exclusive dcrane. Both apply. The first issue is that for around six months or so you do have some kind of boosted immunity to a variant that has a spike protein variant which hasn’t yet mutated sufficiently to escape the immune system’s recognition of it. This is why vaxed people have low symptoms. The issue is, it also doesn’t prevent infection, which means that vaxed people wander round with covid but feel relatively normal, and because this means they go anywhere in society which lets them, this is why cases skyrocket as the vax takes hold in a population. What we are seeing here with our cases is exactly what we have seen in every other population which has rolled out the vax program under the flawed regime they have all been using, of which ours is but another example.
    
    There is emerging evidence long term damage to one’s immune system is done, but of course, its difficult to find these studies because of the propaganda mania insisting it’s “safe and effective.”

    The drop off in the immune response from vaccination in terms of infection rate, is now well known. The risky behaviour of the vaxxed has no bearing on this, it is simply a privilege of being vaxxed.     I do not steadfastly support Jacinda Ardern. It may appear so, but if you consider my opposition to terms such as Nazi, Communist, Dictatorial, Traitor etc etc that are used in comments on this blog to support some very rediculous claims re covid, indicate my support of her then so be it.
    And New Zealand is no where near Germany of the 1930’s. You forget the one outstanding cause of the rise of Hitler, the stagnant and poverty guarantee that Germany was living under at the time.

      John Pakes, as I said in my reply to you, don’t dismiss the source unless you have made some effort to read it and rebut with logical discourse. You dismissed it because you saw a photo of a cat and perceived grammatical errors.
      I stand by what I said, the data presentation and analysis is outstanding. I cannot be always sure of the accuracy because I am not a scientist, but it is presented in a manner which I grasp. If someone can find fault and explain why I will read and acknowledge if it turns out to be accurate.
      I don’t oppose the current narrative for some perverse kick. I don’t oppose medical help just for fun. I’ve had every vax in my life including a tetanus booster a year ago after getting a fishing hook embedded in my leg. I’m not a “denier” of anything, but something about the whole covid story is rotten to the core. I know this as a fact. I don’t know what the real motives are but it is nothing to do with health.
      As for the Nazi comparison. I stand by it. The point made is that it’s a slippery slope to totalitarianism or tyranny and it always starts with the same themes as we are currently witnessing in NZ.

    “Catastrophic effects” (floods, fires. intense storms, droughts, tidal storm surges etc etc ) have either not changed or the have reduced over the last century. Thanks to the resilience created by fossil fuel driven machines, deaths due to these events have fallen hugely.
    
    The hysteria is based on the infinitesimally small @200 years of temp records. And most of those records were concentrated in the USA and Europe. Most of the globe, for most of that 200 years, WAS NOT covered (the oceans even less).
    
    Nothing in the climate of the last 200 years is “unprecedented” if you look at the wide array of climate proxies across the globe (EG ice cores, lake bed samples, sea bed samples, tree rings and much much more). The last inter glacial period was warmer than the one we are in now. In the last interglacial there is strong evidence that there were long periods where the arctic was entirely ICE FREE. There were polar bears in that period and they survived just fine.
    
    That C02 is the direct control knob for the earth’s temperature ad infinitum is a flawed hypothesis. It is a hypothesis that is shot to pieces by “cancelled” and slandered eminent scientists (many of whom were appointed to the IPCC as lead experts but resigned after calling BS on the IPCC and their pushing of unscientific BS statements).

Bhattacharya and experts like him are right. As evidenced by “breakthrough cases” and research like this new study, COVID vaccines clearly do not prevent transmission of the virus. The main benefits are for individuals themselves. Proponents of big government mandates have no compelling case for overriding individual choice on fundamental questions of bodily autonomy.

I have it on various degrees of anecdotal evidence that 99.9% of 5 year olds rock on up to their first day at primary school … and pretty much the whole lot of them can speak English …

Now, I wonder who taught them?? … Whoever did this wasn’t instructed to do it, there was no letter from the ‘Ministry of English’ that arrived in the post on the day of your 0 year-old’s birth …

They weren’t forced into doing it, they weren’t compelled to do it … They weren’t coerced or bribed into doing it … they just did it for no apparent reason … and they didn’t charge the taxpayer a cent.

Imagine that – a whole country of such diversity of ethnicity, of South Africans, of Samoans, of Hindus, of Muslims, of English all getting up in the morning, from all parts of New Zealand, none of them in contact with each other, yet all working in tandem, all without any instruction from anyone, nor any involvement of government and not costing the taxpayer a cent …

And the product? Well, it is so astonishing that I am going to say it again … pretty much all five year olds that rock on up to primary school on their first day of can speak English.

Now, here’s another of those strangest of strange things. English isn’t even an official language of New Zealand. (There are only 2 official languages Maori and sign language.) So it continues to baffle me why all these people would teach their children a language that doesn’t even have any official standing in New Zealand …

Now here’s another odd thing … In 1984, $3 million of taxpayer money was spent on teaching Te Reo … by 2016 it was up to $260 million … and now it is heading towards $600 million … and you know what?? … there are less Maori speakers now than there were in 1984.

So now, here’s my point. Here we are in a country where people are sleeping in cars and in doorways … and we spend 600 million on Te Reo …

I’m no builder, but I reckon you could build a cheap house for about $250,000. For 600 million you could build 2,400 homes …

5 people in each home = 12,000 people housed..

EVERY BLOODY YEAR !!!!

In what right and just society do we allow this insanity to prevail ???

  When my hubby turned up for his first day of primary school at Westend School, Palmerston North, he couldn’t speak or read a word of English.
  
  He had had 5 years of being spoken to in Russian and listening to German and Italian being spoken by the adults around him.
  
  But somehow he managed to cope and learn English (basically, by only speaking English in his home setting).
  
  My point: You learn your mother tongue before you reach school-age.
  
  If Māori failed to learn Te reo as children, it is because their family adults made a conscious decision not to speak to them in that language.

    Slightly off-piste to the thrust of the topic in hand: I agree about the school age point, but comment that you can actually learn ‘mother tongues’ – plural – before school age.
    
    Kids do it automatically. They not so much learn, but absorb the language from the home/social environment.
    
    And by ‘mother tongue” I take it to mean fluency without accent (other than regional accent) and thinking/dreaming in the language(s).
    
    On that basis I would classify my mother tongues as English, German and Swedish, equally, having learned them from childhood [Swedish mother, American father, lived in Germany in my childhood years].
    
    However, it is possible to learn a language post-kid to the extent that you are quite fluent and without accent – although in my experience it depends on the language. For example, I can usually pick a non-native English-speaker, especially written, as English is a tricky language past the basics; I cannot as easily pick a non-native German speaker, as German is more precise; but I can usually pick a non-native Swedish speaker due to some crazy Swedish word pronunciations [the English equivilant of zis and dat].

    This!!! Especially the last two paragraphs. For all the current talk about Maori language as a taonga, it clearly was not a taonga when it was being lost.
    
    In societies with majority and minority languages, there is a greater payoff from mastering the majority language, even more so if it is an international language. Thus, in Canada, French mother-tongue speakers (about 20% of the population) are much more likely than English mother-tongue speakers to become bilingual, even though French is also an international language.

  This is the way it should be, also any vaccinated people where it’s been more than 6 months since their last compliance must be immediately detained and force vaccinated. But we can’t stop there, anyone with children of any age not vaccinated needs to be readily identifiable (a bright yellow star worn on their chest will work well) so we know these people need to be avoided like the unclean unvaccinated.
  
  These are serious times and anyone who refuses to be up to date with their vaccinations, or associate in any way with the unvaccinated, must be completely banished from society.

  Some events just won’t be practical. I see that the New Year’s Eve concert in Hagley Park has been cancelled. How do you check the smart phones of 10,000 people entering Hagley Park?
  
  The other thing that will be worrying a lot of cafes and bars is that they are not set up to check people as they walk in the door. Larger venues would need to employ someone to just do that.
  
  Also my vaccine pass has a QR code? What machine does the cafe need to scan it? If there is no verification, I can just do a screen shot of my pass and give it to my unvaccinated friend who will use a picture editor to install it on his phone. You think that won’t happen?
  
  The venues that will enforce the mandate are ones that build the vaccine pass into the ticketing process. Like Ticket Master etc. But they have lots of money and sophisticated systems. They will already be all over it.
  
  I know I have previously said that compliance will be high. But that will only happen if there are serious fines. Like 20,000 dollars or even shutting down venues.
  
  Unvaccinated people will certainly face difficulties going to hospitality venues. Their biggest problem will be uncertainty. They will never know when they will be refused entry which is not nice.
  
  The whole concept of vaccine passes is flawed for so many reasons. I commented yesterday that it will be totally lawful for a vaccinated servant to sit in a crowded government office in Wellington, next to an in an unvaccinated person. For 40 hours a week. Yet the law stops them sitting next to each other in a cafe for 30 minutes because it is too dangerous. ?

    Benedict – I think what we are going to do in the meantime is have events for fully vaccinated people only. We are probably going to do a Christmas event here in the Wairarapa. There will be ticketing done through the venue and that will be available for those who are vaccinated and have the appropriate QR code or whatever it is.
    So people will rock on up on the day with their ticket and will be allowed admission.
    
    Personally I don’t like this vaccinated only business. But it is the only way to organise an event that abides by the law of the land as it will be in December.
    
    And quite frankly it is abide by the law of the land as prescribed by the government and have a Christmas event for hundreds of people. Or else do nothing for no one.

If people really care so little about a policy of de facto forced vaccination that they will comply just to go to a shitty cafe, bar or concert venue, then they will be the only ones in attendance at these places. Anyone who is still unvaccinated now is fully aware of what is occurring and the implications of not having a pass, and thus probably couldn’t care less if they don’t mingle with the vaccinated herd.

    Most vaccinated people aren’t going to like the passport system either. After a while, the novelty will wear off and they’ll find having to carry around identification all the time and having to use their pass to get into places where previously they could just walk into. And shops and venues are going to be tired of having to enforce it and will just do so to avoid getting fined. vigilance will slip after a few months. Unvaccinated people aren’t much more of a risk to the vaccinated than other vaccinated are. The passport is less about health and more about punishing the non-compliant.

    I did go to check out Bishop’s post. I have to say, when I saw that “GET VACCINATED” in his name I cringed. It certainly knocked him back a few points in my opinion of him. As did his email to me when I challenged his position on some aspects of covid, particularly pushing the jab into kids.
    He responded by listing all the current vaccines we stick in children. Didn’t respond when I pointed out that this isn’t a “vaccine” and that the others all had a minimum of 8 years of development.

  I think you’ll find that $10m is all that’s needed for this stage of R&D. If that R&D phase is successful then there’ll have to be more spend, and if it reaches production there’ll be (much) more spend again.
  
  We’ve spent (or at least committed to spend) something like $800m on Covid vaccines. But that was to buy actual manufactured product, and enough of that product for 4x our population.
  
  So the two relative dollar amounts aren’t a reliable pointer to the priorities.

    Its pretty widely established that the only way to deter Riots from starting is to show the overwhelming force which would be used if people rioted.
    Which didn’t happen at Kenosha. The NG wasn’t even called.
    The real lesson here is that if people see authorities wont protect them or their property, then they will do it themselves.
    Societies need rule of law to work.

        So we all need to park our outrage and think calmly about what kind of society and behaviours we want, and what incentives and punishments need to be in place.
        
        For my part, I don’t want anyone in New Zealand walking the streets with loaded long guns. But that’s an NZ perspective, not an American one. America has got itself in a right mess with guns.

      I suspect that it suited the political leaders of the time to have a BLM-led riot.
      
      I don’t think this was a political prosecution – I think that if two people are shot dead on a street then there needs to be an investigation and a prosecution. But that doesn’t guarantee that the prosecution case will prevail, and I would always want to respect the verdict of a jury trial.

      Some doctors prefer general while some patients may request general – I think Southern Cross will pay for an anesthetist if requested. Even with Midazolam (sedative) / Fentanyl (painkiller) a patient would be no condition to make critical decisions so a Presidential hand-over is wise. I can hardly imagine the President being asked to authorise the pressing of the big button while on the table with the thing up his backside.

      Delta is clinically worse than “alpha”. It replicates inside your body much faster, which means it can get well ahead of your immune system’s response.
      
      But Delta has caused less deaths than “alpha” because:
      (1) Many of the clinically vulnerable people already succumbed in the alpha wave, and
      (2) Many people who were exposed to Delta had been vaccinated.
      
      If Delta had been the original variant then things in 2020 would have been a lot worse. Including here in NZ.

On 17th November Radio NZ ran a very nasty interview of Judith Collins about rapid antigen testing.

The interviewer (?susie Fergusson) kept insisting that the antigen tests were unreliable.

Now we learn that the Ministry of Health is wanting to undertake rapid antigen tests to cope with the coming demand :

The Health Ministry told Newshub it’s also looking at using rapid antigen tests to alleviate stress on labs.

“Work is also underway by the Ministry to review the testing strategy to take a risk-based approach utilising ‘the right test to achieve the right outcome’,” a spokesperson told Newshub.

They said this could include rapid antigen testing in multiple settings and scenarios, and contribute to managing the demand on laboratories.

  Maggy this is first hand experience from 2 days ago. I had to go to see the eye specialist on Thursday. The male nurse checking me in asked my vax status. I said not jabbed, offered me one, I politely declined, still waiting for the long term trial results to end, but pointed out that empirical evidence and news of boosters etc isn’t looking good. The nurse nodded but didn’t try an push further.
  However, nurse said I needed to have a covid test to see the specialist, I said I was not going to have a PCR test due to their unreliability, quoted the 40 ct as per admitted by MoH in the OIA submitted to them. The nurse nodded and said they could do a rapid antigen test instead. I asked what it involved. I was told it was a swab in the lower nostril, self administered. I’m not anti testing, I’m anti testing that isn’t fit for purpose.
  Anyway, nurse went to get the test gear. When they came back I had 2 more questions. Is this test a legal requirement to get medical treatment? No, but without it it meant the specialist would have to put on the full PPE. I felt a little guilty. I then asked out of curiosity, what was the accuracy of the test? The nurse said 49 to 50%…………!
  
  I looked at the nurse and did a pretend coin toss. The nurse nodded. I said “no thanks” and apologies for any inconvenience. That I would go home if it was too much trouble. No said the nurse.
  Anyway, end of story was I went to the office to see the specialist. No mask (I’m exempt) and the specialist sitting in casual gear with only a disposable mask on. No other PPE. Chatted away to me while checking the eye.
  Obviously this is the Black Death.
  My main concern is that the rapid antigen test is a coin test. I believe if it comes up positive you have to get a proper PCR test. I’ve said before, the simplest way out of this is having a very reliable, non invasive test. I would have zero problem with that. If they can detect it in parts per millions of wastewater why not?
  
  Anyway this trip to hospital is a good example of what “informed consent” is, though I would have to say that it wasn’t freely given. I had to ask specific questions.

    I don’t believe her…and it is only because hubby has deteriorating eye sight and needs to be seen on a very regular (monthly) basis, that he has agreed to be Covid-vaxxed…
    When you’re already partially-sighted, you don’t need a load of bureaucratic hassles in your life every time you access a chemist/ hardware store/supermarket, let alone your specialist surgeon.

    As to the gun, well there in that situation you needed one to protect yourself. In all the shootings, Kyle was attacked first, and as the jury found he was legally right to defend himself. Especially when one guy had a pistol pointed at him and was advancing.
    The media (and the president) lied and told porkies … eg. that he came from “out of state” to shoot people. Whereas, he lived only 20 mins away, albeit in a different state – like saying Pokeno to Auckland – to Kenosha where his dad lived, to help.

      It is a different World up there. I fired my first hand gun in Alaska 2015. I was given 3 hours of instruction before even going to the gun range. Even instructed on how to clean and oil the gun before packing it in a case. A 9mm and a 45 both semis.
      But hey, even I made a mistake. I was told to keep my thumb down – the slide got me, just a scratch

  The script writer is saying it was intentional.
  The script did not call for him to draw or fire the gun.
  It was an old single action revolver. That means Baldwin had to cock the revolver before he could fire it.
  This means he took intentional actions, so while he most likely did not intent to shoot and kill someone, it does meant there is a case for manslaughter.
  (as the investigations etc. are still pending, I won’t speculate to his innocence or guilt)

  Maggy this is first hand experience from 2 days ago. I had to go to see the eye specialist on Thursday. The male nurse checking me in asked my vax status. I said not jabbed, offered me one, I politely declined, still waiting for the long term trial results to end, but pointed out that empirical evidence and news of boosters etc isn’t looking good. The nurse nodded but didn’t try an push further.
  However, nurse said I needed to have a covid test to see the specialist, I said I was not going to have a PCR test due to their unreliability, quoted the 40 ct as per admitted by MoH in the OIA submitted to them. The nurse nodded and said they could do a rapid antigen test instead. I asked what it involved. I was told it was a swab in the lower nostril, self administered. I’m not anti testing, I’m anti testing that isn’t fit for purpose.
  Anyway, nurse went to get the test gear. When they came back I had 2 more questions. Is this test a legal requirement to get medical treatment? No, but without it it meant the specialist would have to put on the full PPE. I felt a little guilty. I then asked out of curiosity, what was the accuracy of the test? The nurse said 49 to 50%…………!
  
  I looked at the nurse and did a pretend coin toss. The nurse nodded. I said “no thanks” and apologies for any inconvenience. That I would go home if it was too much trouble. No said the nurse.
  Anyway, end of story was I went to the office to see the specialist. No mask (I’m exempt) and the specialist sitting in casual gear with only a disposable mask on. No other PPE.
  Obviously this is the Black Death.
  The main concern obviously is that the rapid antigen test is a coin test. I believe if it comes up positive you have to get a proper PCR test.
  
  That’s what “informed consent” is, though I would have to say that it wasn’t freely given. I had to ask specific questions.

It seems that every few days, Stuff, the Herald, or State Radio rabbits are on about supposed rifts in the National Party members, and alleging leadership coups being hatched, or at least, inevitable.

Today its Stuff, but Red Radio recently had as its (allegedly) National commentator a former National Party PR, Big Ben, talking up possibility of mutiny.

Interesting how former National Party staffers that Red Radio highlights seem to have in mind someone to replace Collins, and it’s someone from the Labour Lite end of the party.

This is political PR by Labour. Rumours, rumours, rumours about the Opposition. Almost as tactical as the staged infant interruptions of Her Highness when she’s online from home, and the coming midlife wedding.

So I have rung the 0800 number provided, to find their hours are Monday to Friday, with something different on Wednesday.

      Drinking water can refer to cattle supplies. Town water supplies are vigorously filtered etc.
      A small farm may have a few extra micrograms of nitrates or a couple of bugs/cubic metre. Farmers take care that their water is fit for purpose but they are not the main town water feed.
      The arguments about water quality are a smoke screen for activists and the seize back by Nania Mahuta and her rapacious mob.

Assuming, for the sake of an argument, that this is true, how centralizing control is going to prevent it from happening?
But, on the other hand…perhaps, in order to strengthen control, the PM herself should assume direct control over potable water sourcing, treatment and distribution. This will, undoubtedly, result in far more EQUITABLE outcomes than now.
I remember reading somewhere that in the sadly departed Soviet Union, the General Secretary of the Party was responsible for setting the prices of daily essentials such as milk or bread. This responsibility was discharged very diligently and the outcomes were very equitable indeed…

Got my vaccine certificate, don’t know why it isn’t in an app, and don’t want to be forced to sign up to Apple Wallet or whatever.

So as an old Luddite I’m quite proud that I worked out to do this:

Opened the vaccine email on my iPhone, opened the .pdf document and then screenshotted it (held down the button below the screen and pushed the on/off button at the same time) then saved the resulting photo of the certificate/QR code as my lock screen wallpaper.

So now when I have to show my vax status I only need to power up the phone, not go searching to find the pdf.

Saw the voices for freedom people protesting in Hamilton at the end of Victoria street. Parked the car and joined them. They gave me a sign to hold. They told me about their website and I am now signed up so I’ll get advance notice of future protests.

Unlike the media narrative those protesting were mostly vaccinated although some antivaxxers (God bless ’em for the eccentrics that they are) were also there. Mostly they are just people who are sick of Jacinda’s oppressive authoritarianism. Well over half the cars passing tooted in support.

Stays pretty consistent about 700 a week up until July21 (ie about 30-40k total or about 1 in 5000 of that 75million chunk of population over duration of pandemic), then spikes up to 1800 a week after vaccinations rolled out widely to younger age groups.

That appears to be a pretty strong signal for many 1000’s of non-obvious vaccine caused deaths in this age group, but we will have to wait and see if it results in less deaths overall in the longer term. VAccine probably still better than nothing for older part of this cohort (~6x higher risk from covid at 45 than 25) , but perhaps not younger.

Well, what do you know. It appears that Covid is not going to wipe out millions of unvaccinated Africans after all. Covid deaths are significantly less than predicted and there appears to be a link to malaria.
“We went into this project thinking we would see a higher rate of negative outcomes in people with a history of malaria infections because that’s what was seen in patients co-infected with malaria and Ebola,” said Jane Achan, a senior research adviser at the Malaria Consortium and a co-author of the study. “We were actually quite surprised to see the opposite — that malaria may have a protective effect.”
God forbid that anti parasitic drugs taken to stave off malaria (like for instance, Ivermectin , or Hydrooxychloroquine) are effective against Covid.
