It would be interesting if you were able to get the data of all that have used the MIQ when returning from overseas destinations. I say this because of the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern use of this facility to help her friends into New Zealand like the DJ that was the first with Omicron to be found in our Community and if she has been part of giving approval to him to enter New Zealand three times how many others that are Labour donor’s have been given the same privilege before the thousands of New Zealand Citizens that have tried and been unsuccessful when family members have been seriously ill or on their death bed.

    Agree. A true leader will ‘gain’ respect for exhibiting exemplary personal qualities by naturally doing the right thing (whether people are looking or not). Poor leaders ‘demand’ respect, and will always be compromised by their own self serving actions. A wounded PM and ailing economy force England to ‘go Swedish’ on Covid
It’s easy to see why the government is reluctant to add to the economic pain with tougher restrictions.
Government policy towards Covid-19 has come full circle. For now, at least, England has returned to the Swedish way of dealing with the pandemic. Tough, officially imposed lockdowns are out. Trusting the people to do the sensible thing is back in.
Whether this approach will survive the expected surge in hospitalisations from Christmas and New Year revelries remains to be seen. Boris Johnson is the master of the screeching U-turn and with the number of infections hitting new records pressure on Downing Street to act is growing. … A reminder perhaps to ask how “political”, as against medical science based, is the covid response here in New Zealand – does “star-dust” or anything else change what happens here compared to the rest of the world.
One could wonder about the South Island being held in Level 2 so as not to be too more different to Auckland, which may have in turn been held at Level 4 for longer than need be, at the expense of destroying more businesses, and until the voting centre of the next Election were starting to rebel enough …

– Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression: Can’t attend a protest march
– Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.: Not under Level 3 or 4
– Everyone has the right to work: Not when your employer can’t open or operate
– Everyone has the right to education: Not under Level 3 and 4
– Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community: Not under Level 3 or 4

And that preceded the Traffic Light System and its sole purpose to segregate Vaccinated from Unvaccinated, to force the latter to join the former, who now need to have boosters.

Perhaps remember that just as any dollar the Government “gives” to any benefit you perceive as receiving, is a dollar they took off you, and now any freedom they confer on you, is likely one they took away earlier.

Had some friends call in last night on their way home from holidaying in Russell.
They own an established boutique Jewellery business in the CBD.
Very lucky that the building they’re in has been owned by their Family Trust for many years.
Had their grandparents not had the foresight to buy it back in the early 70’s, there is NO WAY they would be there today.
They maintain Phil Goff’s legacy will be the complete demise of Queen St retail. Said it really is extremely sad what has been allowed to happen to the City since he was voted in as mayor by the southern based KFC connoisseurs.

      Clearly Steve they don’t want us there. They’ve turned dual carriageway streets into single ones and hidden pedestrian crossings behind bushes.
      Anyway, the only shops that are there are the likes of the $2.00 and Take Away ones with nothing of substance eg you can’t buy white goods, carpet, furniture, or entertainment systems anywhere in Takapuna, Devonport, Glenfield, Highbury, or Milford. Wairau Valley is the closest and even then you have to battle bloody cycle-ways to get there. They’ve turned the North Shore into a fucking joke IMO and with no reference whatsoever to ratepayers.
      The same can probably be said for most NZ Cities since Green interests infiltrated Local Govts.

    Always a tricky one because to varying degrees, many landmasses are rising or falling. A good overseas example is in Sweden, Stockholm. That is rising at a significant rate, centimetres per century and the seal level in the city is dropping. This is as a result of the “rebounding” from the time some 12-15K years ago when Sweden was under large amounts of ice that pushed the land surface down.
    
    Local earthquake activity can also affect land levels. As most in Wellington would know, the 1855 earthquake significantly lifted a lot of land around the city and as far afield as Pencarrow Head and around to Lake Wairarapa. In Hawke’s Bay, the 1930 earthquake lifted a significant chunk of what is now the city and also the whole airport area, but also there was a corresponding drop in the coastal area towards Cape Kidnappers, hence the enhanced erosion that area has experienced for a number of years.
    
    Typically measures of sea level change are supposedly “corrected” for known land changes, but these corrections are in some cases subject to dispute. Satellites are the latest measuring device, but are not beyond dispute either. And one measure simply unaccounted for is changes in the actual planet’s shape vis a vis the ocean basins. On a world wide basis, this can have mm to cm implications for sea level over quite short periods.
    
    Short answer is that most of the “information” you see with regard to sea level changes is agenda driven estimates based on models combined with oft dodgy data.

    Since the first today gauges were installed they have shown a linear rise in sea levels. This is true for NZ as well. What the IPCC has done is taken a portion of the graph where there was a slight decrease in rate of rise and where there was a bit of catch up and grafted on to it satellite measuring (which measures something entirely different) to give a non linear impression. This is, like much of what they do, dishonest.

    Subsidence corrected tide gauges in wellington show a calamitous rise of 0.5mm/year in last 60 years. Sydney 1mm/year. Outside of areas with geological subsidence issues sea level rise is a nothingburger, and for cities the rate is slow enough and land expensive enough that it is easy to mitigate with something around $1k/hectare/year of height raising during periodic redevelopment works.

        Well, Soros appears to be taking the definition of the term, “Open Society” and stretching it on the rack until it screams.
        
        By which I mean that, while he objected to the closed systems of communist nations and spent money on trying to dissolve them (to the cheers of the West), it turns out that he rather objects to the whole concept of a nation-state, which I put down to his experiences in WWII and a resulting revulsion against them that exceeds even the post-WWI Leftists.
        
        As such he had no qualms about screwing Britain on the pound in the early 90’s, making a billion pounds in the process (the sort of thing Lefties condemned John Key for). It’s no surprise he’s been convicted on insider trading. Also no surprise that he has no guilt about being protected by a Nazi soldier even as that guy went around ripping off Jews. He’ll do what’s good for him and whatever he needs to do to survive.
        
        He’s a “globalist” in the most pure sense of the term, so is quite happy to devote money to fucking up any nation that stands in the path of that dream, whether it be their elections or their system of law and order, which is why he’s dumped millions into backing various prosecutors across US cities who believe in literally dangerous theories about the treatment of treating criminals.

        He also lost a vast, but smaller, amount, when he failed to break the peg between the Hong Kong dollar and the US dollar. Beijing stepped in with its vast currency reserves and backed the Hong Kong Monetary Authority although Hong Kong was still a British colony.

After listening to the incredible Robert Malone interview on Joe Rogan I scrolled back and listened to the Peter McCullough one. At one point in the interview (somewhere in 2.10-2.20) Rogan refers to authoritarian governments and complete overreach wrt covid response/vax mandates, and as the worst of the worst refers to “that woman in New Zealand”.

So if you were in any doubt, she is seen as a bit of a totalitarian nut job outside of NZ….

  This has to be watched by everyone, especially those who think that giving shots to children is safe. In the video he says he started giving D-Dimer tests to his patients before and after their shots (with their permission). A D-Dimer is a blood test that checks for clotting. He found that over 50% of his patients had clotting. After all this research his office – the whole medical building – was burned to the ground, together with all his notes etc. Quite a coincidence, ey?
  
  WAKE UP PEOPLE! This is not normal! Especially his superiors calling him in and telling him he wasn’t allowed to be critical of anything to do with the shots. And him getting fired from his emergency room job of 31 years.

It’s lengthy at 7.30hrs because of the multiple representations describing serious harm (I recommend looking at the comments which indicate the most important parts to skip to). Han Zhang has been jailed in Auckland for importing drugs, and for illegally bringing in so many cigarettes he was known as the “little prince of counterfeit cigarettes” “.

He was sentencd to 11 years on one charge, with other sentences to be served concurrently.

Revealed to the court: He was arrested on tobacco smuggling charges a decade after immigrating to New Zealand from China to study English and a business degree.

From the Herald: the judge noted a “cultural report” that cited pressure on men from Zhang’s region of China to emigrate and “generate income and wealth in order to support parents in their retirement.”

So part of immigration strategy is retirement support for China’s 1.4 billion people.

… it is possible Immigration New Zealand will revoke Zhang’s status and deport him when he is eventually released from prison. Because he is from mainland China and his wife is from Taiwan, New Zealand is likely the only place they could stay together as a family, the judge noted.

Pastor Carl Bromley is an outspoken critic of lockdowns. And has used intemperate language to express his frustrations with the current governments’ covid strategy. This has included making direct references to the prime Minister. He has never, to my recollection (having watched a number of live fb postings by him) advocated violence. Rather has affirmed his own faith in God that wrongdoers will get justice.
On New Year’s Eve, in his absence, his home was raided (under Section 18) on the basis that ‘concerns had been raised about him being a firearms owner’.
His house was ransacked, furniture destroyed, office roughly turned over and his wife left in a distraught state. No arrest was made. Instead, his gun cabinet was broken into, his ammunition (stored legally away form the gun) and his gun license were confiscated.
This is a law-abiding citizen who has exercised his right to free speech. He has not engaged in hateful expressions, nor has he incited anyone to violence. But based on the ‘concerns’ of an anonymous source, his legal rights have been openly violated.
This example of police over-reach is, in my opinion one of the actual symptoms of ‘covid’. It exposes the claws and teeth of a state out of control, a police politicised and empowered to victimize those who may express dissention.

  I’m not too clued up on the firearms laws but, as someone who has almost memorized the search and surveillance act, I know this. In NZ, under the search and surveillance act, police cannot raid your house without a warrant. For a warrant to be obtained they need to produce 2 peices of evidence, that can convince a judge or magistate beyond reasonable doubt, that there is a crime being committed at the house and a search will uncover more evidence of the specified crime. The evidence also has to be legally obtained. The 2 pieces of evidence can not include an anonymous tip off. The person tipping off the police would have to come into the police station and make a statement, identifying themselves, how they know you, the crime being committed and how they know about the crime and then this would only be one piece of evidence not two.. They would also have to put their name to the evidence otherwise their tip off would be dismissed. I could be wrong as I’m not up to date in firearms laws but if this was me my lawyer would have a field day with them, we would scrape through every piece of that warrant and if there was one error in it we would be seeking demotions off all involved. They problem this guy has is how well does he know the law? Enough to instruct his lawyer on what to do? And is his lawyer passionate enough to take it on? That’s the biggest problem in nz justice, lawyers who just pluck at the low hanging fruit. There’s not to many fighter lawyers around but they still do exist and finding one will be his biggest challenge, that will determine his outcome.

    Furthermore, Police can enter the house and inspect firearms and storage at any time for licensed firearms owners and no warrant is required. Search warrants only apply to gangs and criminals as the police don’t need them to raid the houses of honest people.

Wow, this woman is pretty keen to drive herself broke and destroy her business. She is all upset that over half the stall holders have left but then says it’s a relief as they were troublemakers. Gee, maybe if the had neutral, unbiased reporting and could actually show some form of moderation they might not have received such a reception.   To my mind the rules around outdoor markets are very unclear. For example – what does this mean (from the linked article)?
  
  A spokesperson from the COVID-19 Group – a business unit of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) – confirmed that under the COVID-19 Protection Framework, farmers markets are treated as retail businesses.
  
  Is the whole market site a (single) retail business, all stalls subject to identical rules? Probably not as there are different rules for takeaways. When is a takeaway not a takeaway? How far from the provider does a table need to be?
  
  And face coverings. At orange these are required ‘inside a retail business’. How does that relate to an outdoor market?
  
  Seems like at the new market many people had exemptions. They can be asked by retailers etc if they have an exemption but not required to provide details. Not sure about officials asking, but there is no need to have an official card. Maybe a letter from the doc?

The same thing has been happening in the UK from the very beginning. Their numbers are closer to 70% admitted for something other than covid but routinely testing positive once in hospital. It’s the same misleading reporting that has helped keep populations terrified for almost 2 years. Citing “cases” as “with” covid. You might as well say someone was in hospital “with” teeth.

I can’t imagine the Whoreald showing some independence. Is the money running out? Did they make a mistake? Or is the message being subtly changed to prepare us for the next stage of the psyop? Is omicron coming to an suburb near you? That Brenda certainly knows how to keep us in suspense.

    But in a written response to Wiles and Hendy in August, the university suggested they address the safety concerns by keeping their public commentary to a minimum. University officials also suggested they take paid leave to enable them “to minimise any social media comments at present”. While the two have every right to provide public commentary on the pandemic, they are not “expected” or required to do so, the university has told the Employment Relations Authority.”
    So they sought the publicity and it wasn’t part of their job.
    It was ERA which is always a lot more touchy feely than the courts are.

They made mistakes in the early panic as did the UK and NY, cramming their most vulnerable elderly with serious health issues into aged care facilities. A death trap. People were treated inappropriately. People with other medical issues were overlooked. Median age of death was 83. This is where 40% of all apparent covid deaths came from.
      There was a spike in all cause mortality in the first couple of months due to this – referred to as “harvesting”. Not nice, but by May 2020 excess mortality was negative compared to the previous 5 years.

      After Hendy presented his flawed models we read this emotive statement from another of the TPM people.
      “Peter-Lucas told the story of Te Aupōuri’s experience in the 1918 influenza pandemic and the mass graves,” remembers Kate. “It was really profound to be reminded of it. We came away from hearing that, knowing this was the only thing we needed to be working on.”
      There is no comparison with the Spanish Flu and it’s easy to see how a path was taken based on flawed models and emotive narrative.
      
      The original modelling by Hendy referenced the idiotic modelling by Neil Ferguson from Imperial College London a number of times in the advisory report to given to government. Ferguson has a long record of being ridiculously wrong in previous modelling. It’s all outlined in the link below.
      It is a summary of the flawed Ferguson modelling which Hendy basically replicated. Like Ferguson, Hendy is a physics teacher.

      It’s worth reading the whole thing to get the full context, but here is the summary:

      Prediction is an incredibly difficult business. That said I am absolutely confident that, in years to come, those historians will shake their heads and wonder: “What were they thinking?”
      
      As for Wiles and Hendy – they have been operating through Te Pūnaha Matatini and acting primarily as spokespeople for the Ardern government.
      Why does Auckland University have to protect them from their social media travails? As they are funded by the government, surely this is where they should be running to crying about their hurt feelings?
      Due to their advice to government and their public statements, they have contributed to the destruction of much of the economy, the break up of friendships and families, the segregation and vilification of a minority of NZers and the devastation of peoples’ lives and livelihoods. They’ve enjoyed their time in the media and used it at every opportunity. Surely they knew there would be some blowback? Lucky they don’t comment on kiwiblog.

  Neither of them are speaking on behalf of the university when then put out their messages… can’t see how the university is responsible. I’m unclear if they are speaking officially on behalf of the government, does anyone know (They speak in support of, but are they actually sanctioned mouthpieces)? If so, surely it is the government that has a role in their health and safety …?
  I’d be a bit pipped if i was their employer and their outside work was causing such significant problems – surely their distress is affecting the work they are actually paid to do? The belief in November was clearly that rising cases would yield the numbers necessary to punish the unvaccinated. With cases in free-fall just before Christmas, our politicians changed tactics, and set the clearly inadequate hospitalisations aside. Now, as Bild notes, you have places like Niedersachsen and Rheinland-Pfalz, with barely any Corona-related admissions to speak of, where the unvaccinated are locked out of public life anyway.

      That’s a shame and not really necessary. This is about truth not politics and we need more of the former and less of the latter.
      
      Clan is from the same camp as I come from which is we not think but know from credible sources something’s not right about how this is being played, and that fishiness extends to multiple areas of the whole covid thing, from the science to the data to the way its presented to the public, a lot of things don’t add up.
      
      But both Clan and I, if I dare speak for him never having met him but on here, are both willing to admit we are wrong, if the data and science we are basing our positions are proven invalid, incorrect, or any thing else which creates doubt.
      
      But we’re also not prepared to take an official’s word for it, just because they are an official. And that includes medical authorities.
      
      The authorities I personally pay most attention to are field workers with success in the field, such as physicians with successful covid treatment track records, etc.
      
      The issue with you not further commenting on covid dear pharmalady, is you’re one of those direct fieldworkers too, so KBer’s will lose a lot, if you don’t reconsider.

  I haven’t met Max, a colleague in the Law community in UK commented a while back about a “Young Kiwi lad flying under the radar in NZ, and doing so well o/seas”. It was so great to hear. Agreed. about the Letter…one of the things I wonder, is how much damage NZ did to the Academy by abolishing Tenure int eh late 90s. Tenure has its problems (commonly said as “dead wood”) but there are a lot of upsides too.

Off Guardian with a good summary of last year and a peek at what might be coming next year.
They called digital ID and currency last year and were called conspiracy theorists. They called booster shots and vax passports, same slurs. Everything they called came true or is on it’s way. But nothing to see here.

We were laying out by the pool earlier, and a Helicopter flew low overhead.
He put two fingers up and moved them in & out while at the same time making a noise like a machine-gun.

    (a) quite often my expressed opinion proves, astonishingly, to be less than 99.9% accurate
    and
    (b) the folk who point out (a) to me, whilst being sons/daughters of unwed parents, serve to keep me somewhat grounded…
    
    It helps, of course, that I use a nom-de-David’s-blog and that abuse flung my way is usually by similarly-anonymous types.
    
    I note MW’s point that she uses her own, rare name in here and so worry about the ‘attention’ she and other folk bold enough (David G, Benedict Y e.g.) to use their real names ‘attract’…

      Whether I am new here or not is irrelevant, or do I have to be part of “the gang” or I don’t get to play? My comments are open to response like any other.
      If you don’t want to respond to a comment no problem. But nobody is stalking you. Nobody denigrated you and nobody tried to de-platform you. That accusation is baseless and up there with the Wiles and Hendy nonsense against Auckland University.

I don’t think I sorted anything… Some of my posts still attract sleazy little digs.

But I think 2 of the main culprits made some serious mistakes which began to destroy any credibility they may have had here.

To begin with, I think they made the assumption that I was youngish, National Party-affiliated, important, and had a reputation.

It seemed to take a long-time for some folks to realise that I am just a little old lady in the wops with no (and never have had) political affiliations and no influence over anyone.

What I started to do after a couple of years of non-stop abuse and comment stalking was to call out every instance of personal abuse or innuendo… (as opposed to addressing the topic of my comment).

I then began listing (and linking back to ) the various types of smears/abuses I was being subject to.

I stopped emailing DPF when the abuse was just directed at me… but if 3rd parties were mentioned.. or if reference was made that linked my surname to right-wing/neo-Naziism stuff, I notified him.
(There is only one extended family with my surname in NZ).

However, unlike you, I only started commenting on this blog after I was retired. Once I knew there were personal attacks on this blog against me, I resigned from membership of certain environmental groups and I became very canny about how I went about dealing with consultancy work.

There’s some other stuff…. not for public consumption, though.

It seems obvious that if you choose to volunteer controversial comment on a highly emotive public issue, then you are likely to attract adverse reaction on it, some undoubtedly vitriolic. Ask Des Gorman or Gigi Foster.
Unless your employer is not only telling you that you must comment, but also what it is that you must say, they cannot possibly be responsible for your hurt feelings when others disagree with you.

I notice The Herald Very quickly removed the ability to comment on the Wiles and Hendy story. Clearly they were not too favourable!
Funny this pair were behind the vicious attack on the seven academic staff who expressed their opinion on Maori science and co ordinated others doing so as well. So one rule for them and another for them? What is wirse this pair open,y attacked work colleagues while they are being attacked by outsider’s on social media.

Just read the article in the Herald ref Wiles and Hendy taking Auckland University to the courts as the University was not protecting them from abuse. The comments section was open but none had been posted. So sent a comment. On checking shortly afterwards the Herald had closed the comments with none posted. So much for free speech.
