  I fully understand how he feels. I need 3 pieces of wood to repair a deck. 2-3 years ago these would have been easy to get from any of the 3 different suppliers in my area on Auckland’s North Shore. Today, all 3 suppliers are out of stock and have no idea when they will get again. I now have a deck where old timber has been removed, but I can’t replace it because there’s no timber available.

    Get there. None. All been taken by prior trade orders. Bugger all in any sizes in the whole region. Months to resupply.

    I needed 2 sheets of 12mm treated ply. No stock at mitre10, haven’t had any for weeks and don’t know when it will be in stock.
    No other treated ply either. A couple of bent sheets of 7mm, but nothing else in other sizes or thicknesses.

News Years day was a red letter day……..
The European Union announced that it was going to declare that both Nuclear and Gas energy were both GREEN energy. I hope its not a con trick – but its being reported on Reuters , Bloomberg, NY times etc.

Being announced on 1/1/22 I guess they thought no one would notice – and in general the media hasn’t.
I am guessing that the climate gurus got back from COP26 and got out their adding machines and added up all the square kilometers of solar panels and hundreds of windmills and concluded that even if they covered Europe in them and added in the thousands of batterys needed there would not be enough energy (forgetting the cost) to meet the Zero Carbon target they set at COP.

Natural Gas is political in that they get much of it from Russia and they have turned supply off at times and they could sell it to China or India so the EU cant guarantee supply – and thus they HAVE TO HAVE nuclear.

Finally common sense and reality have won through. Praise the Lord and sing Halleluiahs.

    Our nuclear ban wasn’t due to environmental risks of operation.
    
    It was introduced to avoid the risk of Russia or China dropping a nuke on a nuclear armed warship visiting NZ and thus irradiating us with nuclear fallout.
    
    But the narrative has blurred in the intervening years, and now yelling “nuclear free” is as popular as yelling “climate change”.

“gun-related violence in Auckland”
Time to ‘turn the planes around’ on Australian 501 deportees amid exploding gun violence – National Māori Authority
National Māori Authority chair Matthew Tukaki said in a statement on Monday “these violent thugs and criminals don’t care two hoots about the community”.
“In my mind, there is now only one solution left – turn the planes around and make a point to the Australian government that New Zealand is not the dumping ground for your criminals.”

Do the 501s bring guns with them – carry-off luggage or hidden in any suitcases which Customs have missed? I don’t think so.

So –
Matthew Tukaki said the current Labour Government and previous National Government aren’t to blame for the rise in gun crime.
When it comes to why violence has risen so drastically, Tukaki said the reasons were clear.
“There have been concerns for the last several years that new gangs and chapters are getting a foothold in New Zealand because of the rising tide of returnees known as the 501’s. To be frank we saw it as far back as Waikeria and we are seeing [it] now with an increase in gun-related violence in Auckland.”

Because the guns are already here. Eliot Ness would have figured this out.
Tukaki and Coster might not.

  I’m no expert on these things, but I’m guessing that every package, container, ship, plane, whatever isn’t gone over with a fine tooth comb looking for contraband.

I’m all good with Maori at the top of their game sharing their opinions but, seriously, Matthew Tukaki? Who is he, how did he get there and what’s he ever added?       I fully realise how it works, but let’s question why it has to be that way. It’s like asking a Fox to investigate missing eggs in the Hen House.
      I realise Parliament is the highest court in the land (since Helen Clark declared the Privvy Council null and void), but how is Parliament to be investigated. If we have to await another election, the moment in time is lost.
      Furthermore, I fail to believe Parliament’s Question Time is where the Govt of the day is held to account, especially when we have the likes of Mallard running defence for the Govt and the PM in particular.

        The most one might expect is that the government would consult opposition parties on the ToR.
        As to Nick’s other points:
        The privy council was never in a superior position to parliament.
        We could improve the accountability of our governments. But the core mechanism is universal suffrage. In terms of limiting a government’s power, it’s hard to go past the requirement to maintain the confidence of regularly elecred representatives.

    cmm and Benedict. You are both 100% correct in what you say. What I was trying to portray (even if I did it badly), was to quote JF Kennedy where he said “some people look at things the way they are and ask why. I look at things the way they could and should be and ask why not?”
    Ok, IMO, there’s a couple of things we could do:
    1. Reestablish our links to the Privvy Council (if they’ll have us), or
    2. Give the GG powers (via the Crown) to set up a team of Judges and esteemed Law Professors/Practitioners to establish and means to hold the Govt responsible for their actions in the interests of all peoples of NZ. Such a body would have powers in excess of the Govt and the High/Supreme Court.

    Using PCR for testing does lead to a lot of false positives, and the higher the number of “repeats”, the greater the chance of a FP.
    
    What puzzles me though is that to identify the variant as “omicron” there must have been either a full sequencing (or enough to identify the variant), or possibly NZ is using PCR kits specifically “tuned” to Omicron, which I think exist now – just a bit surprised that NZ has them.

        “It’s the law” is not a sufficient condition to dictate our actions. As you know, a bare majority in Parliament can see practically any law whatsoever pass in this country, no matter what its content.
        
        Sometimes, and that was one such case, following the law is immoral, so breaking a law is the necessary action of any decent human being. The entirety of the laws pertaining to Covid are political and nothing more, so it is our collective duty as decent human beings to ignore them.

      My analogy is valid. You can catch a life threatening STD from someone you have sex with and it is valid example because it has been through the courts. You can go to Tinder or Rythym and Vines and have casual sex. Do you support tinder being able to ask you to share your medical status. I can imagine that a dating company or festival who said all our customers have been checked and we declare them free of AIDs, HPV, and Hepatitis would be a marketing advantage. As per Jacindas comments people want the assurance other safe people. So can tinder and rythym and vines ask people to pass an STD test and declare it as a marketing feature of their products. Because currently the law says NO in relation to HIV which has been tested in court.
      
      The HIV website says the law is clear that even if you have HIV you have to take “reasonable precautions” during sex and wear a condom. Wearing a condom isn’t fool proof it’s akin to wearing a mask. Wtih HIV the law is you don’t have to tell your partner and certainly not your employer nor a business who cannot discriminate. It is your private information. And you don’t have to tell someone you kiss if you have HIV. That is the law. Has that law changed in light of the way we have treated covid?
      
      Keeping in mind that those who haven’t fully vaccinated do not have covid and those who are vaccinated can and do still regularly catch it.

    Seymour is disgusting. I voted for ACT last time, but Seymour’s snide and arrogant rejection of people with serious and valid concerns means I won’t be fooled a second time. Isn’t this the so-called champion of liberty? Who cares what people’s reasons are – their liberty to choose should be where it begins and ends. If he could formulate any sort of statement that didn’t involve gratuitous insults and non sequiturs, that would be a sign that he hasn’t been corrupted in under two years. I seriously thought they would have a couple of people set aside looking at the alternative info/research to ensure they have a balanced view on what is being discovered, as time ticks on. But no, it appears we’re all just anti-vaxx nutters. I now have a very different view of ACT … not such a liberal thinking group after all, so I will no longer be donating my hard earned money.

US life ins coy says deaths are up 40% from pre-covid levels.

“We are seeing, right now, the highest death rates we have seen in the history of this business – not just at OneAmerica,” the company’s CEO Scott Davison said during an online news conference this week. “The data is consistent across every player in that business.”

OneAmerica is a $100 billion insurance company that has had its headquarters in Indianapolis since 1877. The company has approximately 2,400 employees and sells life insurance, including group life insurance to employers in the state.

Davison said the increase in deaths represents “huge, huge numbers,” and that’s it’s not elderly people who are dying, but “primarily working-age people 18 to 64” who are the employees of companies that have group life insurance plans through OneAmerica.

“And what we saw just in third quarter, we’re seeing it continue into fourth quarter, is that death rates are up 40% over what they were pre-pandemic,” he said.

“Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be 10% increase over pre-pandemic,” he said. “So 40% is just unheard of…”

    This is precisely what the medical specialists I have been listening to for the last two years have been predicting.
    
    They have been saying the vax affects people’s immune system functions which leads to explosions of latent virus infections including cancer. This is these surfacing.
    
    You have immediate reactions then you have longer term ones and these get worse with every booster.
    
    I am not making this up myself, simply repeating what experts like Malone, McCullough, VandenBosch and others have been saying. They’re all over the web, if you can’t find them yourself it’s because you don’t want to.

Once again brothels and strip clubs are in the news as covid hotspots. Pelican club, femme fatale, mermaids and a club in Nelson are places of interest with one club linked to 6 infected people. The article doesn’t say whether the infected are workers or customers or whether they are vaccinated.

So are vax passes required at strip clubs? Jacinda said in an interview there was no specific advise in the framework for the sex industry but surely this is a close contact industry (like hairdressers) and public areas would follow bar, nightclub type rules.

I checked the websites and no covid restrictions or vaxx passports are mentioned for any of the establishments.

But currently in Auckland, families and young people can’t visit the Mountain bike park, the hairdressers, a restaurant or bar (indoors or outdoors) , a nail salon, go on a kayak or horse riding tour, go to a doc campground, an outdoor market, an outdoor sculpture walk, or a gym without a pass. Yet none of these have ever been linked to outbreaks.

And for the MMA gym which is members only who hadn’t checked passports they have copped a $12k fine a day. As did a vegan restaurant. Despite neither place linked to an outbreak.

So why aren’t media asking the questions of the brothels that they ask of craft markets.

      In hospital WITH covid not because of it, a big difference. You have a car accident, get badly injured and end up in ICU and then test positive you are still counted as a covid patient in ICU!
      Our media not keen on pointing out the difference.
      Yes some are in hospital because of covid but mainly very elderly or unvaccinated with co mobidities which make them high risk for any virus or flu.

      This reactive behaviour results in them looking back to the good old days of when lockdowns ‘worked’ and this is their one arrow in the quiver – they think it worked because they are brilliant, when in reality our low population density and geographical isolation combined with border closures probably had more bearing on our low case load. Doing the rounds – description of a Zoom call by Auckland lawyer Liz Lambert, who says these govt mandates are pretty much ILLEGAL.

(1) The COVID-19 Public Health Response Act 2020 was purposely never gazetted (in Liz’s opinion, to stop the NZ Government from being liable for wrecking the economy, killing people, causing suicide, euthanasia, etc). This means that the Act itself and everything which has happened under that Act is illegal, including the mandates (which Liz thinks will be gone early in the New Year). Also, legislation cannot be retrospectively gazzetted, which means actions taken in the past under the Act (orders, mandates, etc) cannot be made valid retrospectively.

eg, fines imposed for breaching orders or mandates (e.g. the $12,000 fine imposed by WorkSafe on Oliver’s Gym) are unenforceable, businesses no longer have to comply or be running scared of fines and censure, the Police have no authority to act under the legislation, etc.

(2) It is a principle of law that legislation cannot have restrospective effect. This has also been specifically declared in section 12 of the Legislation Act 2019. This means that the medical exemptions obtained by thousands of people under clause 7A of the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021, before that order was changed at 11:59 pm on 7th November 2021, are still valid and cannot be invalidated.

I remember when

Have been talking to a crew member for one of the hot rods that competed at Masterton.
He said the reading for the asphalt was 97 degrees.
Drivers were having to be pulled from their cars at the end of their runs.
A number passed out.
No the EV wasn’t a winner.

Will this mean electricity problems for the North Island?

Indonesia has banned export of coal in January to stabilise supply for its power generation.

New Zealand has been importing about a million tons of Indonesian coal a year for power generation, while NZ’s own ample coalfields have mostly been allowed to die.

NZ also imports a smaller amount of coal from Australia.

Indonesia’s month-long halt is needed to prevent shutdowns at about 20 power plants in Java, Madura, Bali and other regions.

Should the Australian covid data be considered when deciding whether to vaccinate children, especially 5-11 age group in January.
Total number of covid infections on the Australian MOH site for 0-19 age groups is 100,000.
These are the third and fourth ranking age groups for Australian covid cases.
Deaths to date 2 for 0-9, and same for the 10-19 age group. Two were stated to have severe co-morbidities and the 2 year old has been referred to the coroner. The remaining 10-19 year old I am uncertain about.
16/12/21: Pfizer suspected Myocarditis cases (12-17 age group) is 168.

Has been running front and centre on that website for several days now. What about Luxon and his wife? They are pretty high flying too.
But not listed there. Can only be another paid Labour party informercial actually pumping Ardern as a celebrity. Wouldn’t even be surprised if it wasn’t even paid for. The editor probably just ran it as a favour for all the covid messaging business placed with the Ferald this year…

In one of the great recent fraud trials, Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the American medical company Theranos, has been found guillty on four counts.

Three of these charges were of committing wire fraud, and the fourth was conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Holmes raised money from leading business people including Henry Kissinger, Geoge Shultz, and retired Marine Corps general, Jim Mattis. and three people who would become Presidential officials. Other investors included Rupert Murdoch and the Waltons, owner of Walmart and America’s richest family.

Holmes’s venture allegedly was pioneering a new and simpler way of testing blood.

How many “Aotearoans” have died of Rona so far?

51 “Aotearoans” have died “WITH” Covid, but how many “FROM” Covid alone?

Most of the 51 people were in a dementia ward or retirement village, and apparently only had a few months left to live, at the most.

How many of these 51 people would have been alive in one years’ time, if they hadn’t catched “Deadly Delta” et al?

Certainly, the guy shot in his driveway would be dead, irrespective of the fact that he died with Covid.

By the balance of probabilities, from what I’ve heard about these people and their co-morbidities, approximately none of them died of Covid. Most were in their 80s or 90s. They were waiting for God, Rona or not.

We have shut down the country for two years for a flu that I suspect hasn’t actually killed anyone, or at most a few people.

Is this a cruel hoax?

A dishonest headline from the media, saying that that the cases in NSW have reached 500,000. You have to read the article for the magic qualifier, “since the pandemic began. ” As an Australian says in the comments on Facebook –

That’s a little misleading. Over here in Australia our total cases since the start or the pandemic are only 499,987 according to worldometers.
Our current active cases are 225,649.
I suspect this article is more fearmongering.

Hello KBers, today’s contribution is not a person, it is a very important scheme to improve NZ/Germany relations through Scientific Collaborations.

The diversity of projects supported include such efforts as robotics, marine coastal environments and migration/immigration dynamics. Partly supported by the Goethe societies of NZ and Germany, as well as the respective governments, there are several opportunities for post graduate student scholarships, internship and joint research grants. I’m not sure the average NZ academic is aware… hopefully amplifying a little.

Why was there a 5-10% increase in NZ and Aus during the winter months of 2021 compared to 2020? What had changed other than that vaccination of high risk coffin-dodging individuals (mostly elderly) was underway Mar-Aug 2021? We still had a very low flu and cold incidence through winter ’21

This data is not split up by age, so the elderly will dominate the data (ie in our winter 21 vaccination period), but there are a lot of recent reports of huge excess deaths in working age adults eg 40% in indiana during 2021 that are explicitly not covid-pneumonia but myriad other health problems that are so far from the norm that they can only present some huge unknown killer (post covid damage or vax damage?):

The magnitude of these excess deaths is similar to that from covid in an unvaccinated population. There might be an enormous hidden price to vaccines and/or covid that’s only showing up through larger scale statistical examinations of population deaths.

I can honestly say, that if those Local Bodies had put as much time & money into fencing their Riverbanks…..as Auckland Council has in making us comply with the Swimming Pools Act, all drownings would have been eliminated by now.

Most Kiwis do not support discrimination. Policies of discrimination therefore, should not exist. However, one exists here now, denying the Covid-vaccine-free the same rights as the Covid-vaccinated. The only reason it exists is because the majority of people obey, despite knowing discrimination is immoral. This obedience comes from believing the government will accept responsibility for this discrimination under the mandate. As you know though, governments come and go, times change and history is a very harsh judge on those who support discrimination, especially when recent research is showing the Covid-vaccinated are a significant source of transmission.

I, too, have murdered family members. They were killed by starvation, by a totalitarian Soviet regime that killed in a mostly passive aggressive way, which meant taking away everything until life itself became impossible. It killed those it considered enemies of communism.

There are warnings from history that should not be ignored, despite how uncomfortable they make people feel.

I never thought I would see in my lifetime the type of discrimination we are seeing in NZ today over a virus that has a incredibly high survival rate. The left seems to be reveling in it. When you argue with them, you find they consider the discrimination to be self-inflicted and therefore trivial.

You have to wonder what would not be justified in a pandemic.
