British Airways and Virgin Atlantic passengers and crew will not be required to wear masks from tomorrow. The airlines both said they believe their customers should have ‘personal choice’. At the same time Heathrow airport is also removing mandatory face mask requirement in all terminals and buildings.

This is good news. There has NEVER been evidence-based justification for masking to stop transmission or contact with an aerosol-borne pathogen. Masks have been used to turn hundreds of millions of faces into fear billboards. It is high time they are scrapped here. Then we can start looking at sub-clinical vaccine harm, and punishment for the charlatans and liars who forced otherwise healthy, ‘immuno independent’ individuals to accept these genetic therapies.

  Yep there are a handful of countries that dont require you to be all jaxxed to maxxed to travel to.
  
  Unrestricted entry to Mexico, England, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and a few others. Can travel to a few others unjaxxed but require their MIQ. Then in 2025 there will be losers still angry at the unjaxxed that will prevent their international travel out of spite. Like Aust / NZ.

    I’m fully on board with the idea that masks are functional useless “covid theatre” to quote the US’s current #1 Governor, but some of the additional arguments against mask-wearing are spurious in the extreme.
    
    Frinstance, your notional bus driver’s oxygen requirements are somewhat less than the average London cycle courier, happily wearing a mask to cut out exhaust particulates…

  krazy, masks are the last bastion of control over the population. I look at the myriad of mask types and wonder when they were last washed and if not the ingestion of daily filth must be worrying. Since the last polls came out Labour has been in a state of panic and this chaos has filtered down to eateries which I have found are simply ignoring vax passes. Every day Jacinda appears to be showing signs of poll-panic and the announcements actually now have start dates, not just hope dates. Watch for chaos in the financial sector as mortgages tank.

      I’m finding provincial NZ to be utter basket cases. In Gisborne recently, for example, the restos and bars are freaks about the rules. Got told off for getting up to the loo without a mask, in middle of dinner. Fuck off. Never happens in AKL.

        Happened to me at a well known pub on Auckland’s Northshore the other week. Got told to wear a mask when I approached the bar to order the drink, then again when getting up to use the amenities. Complete nonsense. I just don’t bother going to these places now – the one in question said it was as per the Govt health order, so I get why they are feeling obliged to enforce it, but I’ll save my money and enjoy some well crafted homebrew in my own backyard instead!

  And masks in the gym. Even though the Government guideline for gyms is “customers are not required to wear a face mask” (but trainers/instructors are, except when taking a class), Exercise NZ or Fitness NZ or whoever they are have sent an edict to all their gym owner members that masks “should” be worn by “customers” when not exercising. So apart from not being mandatory in the first place, we have been told to wear a mask when walking in, standing around chatting while waiting for a class etc, but not while huffing and puffing and spitting and jumping up and down during a very hectic class of 20 people in a relatively small space. I have emailed and messaged the CEO of said gym organisation and was told to take the matter up with my local MP! They have ignored my subsequent emails and messages. In an online video aimed at gym owners, this CEO calls making people wear a mask (but not while exercising) a “business tip” rather than a health and safety issue. I have asked the Covid-19 Facebook page and didn’t get a straight answer either. So the law says one thing but these other people make up their own rules which are illogical, idiotic and totally non-sensical. The sooner we get rid of masks the better. If people want to keep wearing them, then let them.

    Exactly, and I CANCELLED my 12 month gym membership late last year because of precisely this. Needless to say I had to send them a couple of follow-up emails in order to get them to process the refund, but I received it in the end. If the desire of the Govt is to keep people like me cooped up at home, then to a certain extent they are doing a good job, since I would rather that than be forced to do something that makes no sense. And on another note, paying by cash is something I continue to do (am not sure where the old ‘cash is dirty’ rhetoric went to), so am just doing my small part to keep that alive for as long as poss.

      Strangely this is not a government directive. It’s a rule the gym association has imposed and in my efforts to contact them and ask why, I have been totally fobbed off and ignored. Seems they take too much notice of the word “should” instead of “must”.

  There are a lot of studies that all point to the effectiveness of masks, especially masks like N95 and KN95 rated (and equivalent European and AUSNZ standards). They are still not perfect but offer a reduction in spread of covid.

    Any PPE needs to be used properly (and disposed of appropriately) to be effective. However the often sad old screwed up cloth mask that many temporarily park on the cafe table (yuk) whilst they sip a latte is doing nothing for infection control or their own health, and is simply serving as a compliance and virtue device.

Meanwhile, the grass outside the Anglican Cathedral is growing back nicely.

Parliamentary Services should be slated for this utter waste of public money; and Trevor Mallard as its leader should hang his head in shame.

And even as I write, there’s a Maori ceremony to reopen the grounds. Tangata whenua all over the place. For what?? Words fail me.

What is it with people that befriend our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern like Jessica Mutch McKay that when a story hits the headlines like Simon Bridges Yesterday they have twist and bullshit on the reasons and damage it could do to Nationals chances at next election.
I am absolutely pissed off with Reporters or Journalists trying to turn stories like this into Nationals falling apart again and we need stability in New Zealand politics . Labour are turning political news into a vote for Jacinda Ardern every time they open their mouths.

  Yes it always amuses me the difference between National and Labour party members. Many National members come from successful careers, when they leave politics they often go on to even higher paying positions. Whereas Labour people are often students or union types that have never worked in a ‘real’ business, and realise that being in parliament is the highest paid and best job they will ever have, and therefore hang on tooth and nail to it.

Bridges somewhat under rated. He was most important stop against Labo’s mad capital gains fetish. Many dripping wet leftist National types were for this tax. But Bridges held firm. It was because of Bridges this tax was not introduced. MSM said it was Peters.

Bridges also somewhat strong against crime. He said he would scoop the gang shit off the streets. Light on details but this was the plan. National have since gone quiet on crime while gangs continue to murder / beat the shit out of random people. Crime is just too hard for National now.

Bridges called for a China travel ban in January 2020. Was called a racist right up until the time that simple girl Ardern finally introduced the China travel ban after insistence from Aust.

Bridges’s instincts seem sound. He is right to bail from the incoming Luxon government.

DPF posted yesterday about the $88 million the government has spent on covid messaging.
I would also object to the millions spent on 3 waters messaging, ACC messaging, zero road toll messaging and lowering the speed limits messaging.
I would also object to there is no debate. The mainstream media just follows the government line on almost everything it seems.
We are constantly bombarded with government propaganda. Wash your hands, get a booster, lower speed limits, 3 waters is little brown children playing nicely so who could object to that?

1984 is upon us people. You can’t even go to the toilet in the mall without receiving government messaging over the speaker system.

It has to stop. Let’s elect a government that believes in freedom and individual responsibility. Not a big government knows best mentality that means you get told what to do every hour of every day.

Who do they think they are? God?

    Interesting Clan. I read recently that the original Kim was raised in a Christian family. When he became a Communist he took elements of Christian worship and applied it to his own regime when he became leader of North Korea. So in a sense the Kim leaders are worshipped as gods in North Korea. When the Kim leader dies people weep openly in the streets. It’s almost like God has died. So there is a real cult of personality around the Kim family. A lot of similarities to a religion.
    
    I do think there is a cult of personality around Jacinda. The selfies with young people. The idea this is a young cool leader whom everybody can love. Someone who is kind and caring. There is an element of worship around the Jacinda cult.
    
    And of course there is an element of 1984. The constant all pervasive messaging. The fact that when we scan in to any place, then the government can know where we are and where we have been. This was the essence of 1984, all pervasive government control of the population, what they said, what they did and even what they thought.

  Re 1984. I was around in 1984. Believe me NZ was a very different place. In July Rob Muldoon was rolled and the Lange Douglas Prebble Government arrived. It was a breath of fresh air. I was working in a highly regulated Government controlled industry. Suddenly we were let free to give our customers what they wanted and to be able to make a buck. Happy days!!!

… and Jacinda should have added, “… do something about it, because it is a crisis, an emergency, and a shock!”

I am still disappointed, that (to my admittedly limited knowledge) Jacinda was not asked, “if I am willing to bear a higher cost at the petrol pump because it is a consequence of resistance to Putin ordering the random slaughter of adults and children in Ukraine, why should Ardern’s Government benefit by 25 cents a litre?”

Why does the Ministry of Health not recognize immunity acquired from a previous infection?

Is there a medical reason why you won’t issue covid passports to covid survivors?

Any body think for a minute that such a morally corrupt, incompetent, lazy and compromised organisation will even reply.

  Apart from the fact I NEVER EVER want to have to produce a passport for anything regarding my medical status, someone needs to ask them, WHY the PM banned importation of antibody testing in April 2020 and why is that ban still in place today. Why?
  But don’t fall for the “covid passport” thing. Please. Just refuse to ever comply with such insanity. It’s the thin edge of the wedge.

Jacinda, like Sister Maria skipping rustic-unctuously across the alpine pastures, says “You will know it, when you see it”, but Faafoi sees what they are doing may “actually whip up the kind of issues that we are trying to stop” – so bit of a hot potato, and that must now include all that krap that happened outside Parliament, the angry mob that emerged at the end, hurling hateful epithets and paving stones, so that those in Parliament, defining what you can and can not say – what one can throw at another – may incite further krap outside Parliament again, possibly before the next Election.

Why were there a Tax Working Group, or Whateverother Type of Committee, until National lost count to these after about 150 something think tanks were working for the Labourless / New Zealand First Government?

Because Ardernʻs Government, inpowered by Winston (which should never be forgotten, especially now in Tauranga), needed to formulate some policy, because they had sat for nine years in opposition, and under Little didn’t expect to win the 2017 Election either, so had not bothered with any real policy and needed all the committees and similar appointed groups to come up with something, or be recipients of stuff pushed sideways, to “kick it down the road”

But now people can pay to ask questions that Labour will collate into possible policies, then announce announcements about them, using the $25 contributions to publicise the contributors’ own ideas which should appeal as policy through being somewhat familiar to them! It could channel some of the angst too!

I remember when

On the excess deaths during covid survey highlighted on Dr John Campbell on his video:
Only two countries, that he was aware of, had negative excess deaths during the period – Australia and New Zealand.
Australia – 18,100 less or negative 32.9 per 100,000.
New Zealand – 827 or negative 9.3 per 100,000.
So on this measurement New Zealand was only 28% as successful as Australia.
Or Australia was 4X as sucessful on a population basis.
Have we been overstating Jacinda’s success.
Have there been other factors at work.

  I hate to sound negative in this regard, but I have said from the very beginning and I still believe that all NZ has done is kick the can down the road. There is an unpleasant term used in this field, “dry tinder”. I believe that by hiding for 2 years, lockdowns, social distancing, masking etc, most people have weakened immune systems that will potentially take a beating this winter. Especially if it is particularly wet and cold. There will be many elderly and susceptible with comorbidities who will succumb.
  These are the facts when it comes to respiratory illnesses. There is data regarding this from around the world. I don’t have it at hand, but Sweden in particular suffered excess death in the early stages of covid. That excess was due to the mistake of putting vulnerable people together in aged care facilities and the fact they had a very mild winter the previous year.
  Most of this stuff will be studied and hopefully the truth will be permitted. But it will be ten years before we can have a truly accurate picture of what happened and what the real causes were of the various outcomes.

        I didn’t say it was the rule, to be clear myself, of course it wasn’t every person present but it was certainly a majority opinion that the media were lying (with no evidence in support of that).
        
        The documented (written and on video) cases of media being variously told they would be hung, put on trial, were corrupt, lying, wrong, or just dumb, are all out there and plain to see. Along with attempts to prevent access, snatch off masks, and one case of physical assault.
        
        Statistically it was a minority of people who actually said and did those things. The issue is that they did it, and a majority held the same views, even if not verbalising or acting on it.

I lately have had the misfortune to listen to parts of one of my children’s University lectures. The lecture was on leadership and given by Lexi Matheson. Whilst most of it was a life story of Matheson, I was a little surprised with regard to her choices as leaders to look up to. There is no surprise that she chose Ardern. Almost entirely based around Ardern’s response to the ChCh Mosque shootings. Leaders and leadership isn’t based on one instance. Lexi also chose Robertson. Why, I cannot fathom. There was also time for Lexi to make a snide comment about Trump. She showed a picture of Trump in front of St James Church. And commented that he purports to be a religious man. But he had the bible upside down and was there for the photo opportunity. Lexi’s take? It’s fake news. No mention of course that there were violent left wing riots and the Church had been partially burned. Among other left wing luminaries, she also named several actors|actresses. Now these people might be “leaders” in their field, but they are nothing to do with “leadership” as there is a rather large difference. Being very good at one’s job doesn’t make one a leader. From my point of view, I felt Lexi has no issues with outrageous political bias and didn’t actually know what leadership is. And she is teaching it to our kids.

        Batman, DPF and I presume the other mods, not knowing who they are, seem to hold the view that people should be aloud to express their opinions, even if they themselves disagree with the view – definitely not a leftist view.
        
        I also wouldn’t really call DPF or batman a lefty. I would put them more at home in the JKs Nats style of governance than anywhere else, biggish, but functional, doesnt work too bad while it has moderately competent people in charge, extends into ones life more than I personally like, but can see why people value it. This is in contrast to a modern lefty government that has its tendrils in everywhere and everything, and tends to make situations worse not better for everyone.

        I voted ACT last time. I have never voted Labour or Green (ew) or for other left wing parties.
        
        I’m not a fan of big government but favour it doing core things properly, effectively and fully (social safety net, health, transport, defence, education etc) and also favour socially tolerant policies such as marriage equality and recognition of minorities (trans people etc) on the basis that the state has no place in interfering with anyone’s life and should simply provide the services they require without question (in general).
        
        The state is a tool to protect and ensure the freedom of all, no favour to anyone or sanctioned discrimination against anyone based or religious or cultural or any other grounds.

It is an amusing activity highlighting in real time that history is proving Trump to be the fraud and corrupted force which many said he was, to the howls of protest from his devoted followers, nothing more or less for me.
      
      Having worked in NZ politics I do find foreign stuff more interesting, as the local stuff is a bit ‘meh’ given how utterly detached from reality a lot of the criticism of the PM and the government is. All the communist and rumour mill stuff just doesn’t capture my interest because I have worked within government and know it’s all just meaningless hot air in the blog/social bubbles.
      
      As for your comment about me, you’re only saying that because it is known that I moderate separately and I’m a convenient target. It’s just projection of their own biases and views of others from anyone suggesting I would moderate differently from the other mods based on political views. For a start, after three years they would have noticed if I was somehow advancing some sort of imagined far-left moderation policy ? as usual, the reality is that I’m really boring and act properly when it comes to my comments versus moderating stuff.
      
      Just finally, you mention must be angry, but I would posit that you are the more emotional party here, with your need to attack me personally.

        I’d like to correct what I said about the clearing, and mea culpa. The report did not find that was the explicit reason, but it also didn’t clear the administration either. This is an interesting look at what it said versus what either side claimed:

        There are multiple open questions about what really occurred and in what sequence of events.
        
        There is little doubt that the overall peaceful daytime protest was forcibly broken up to allow the installation of the fences which were as a result of the night time violence by individuals and small groups.
        
        Trump used that, and the basement fire in the church, lit by one guy, to hold his photo op and made it seem like he had the protesters cleared to look strong and dominant, when in fact the two weren’t strongly linked at all.
        
        So all in all, a huge amount of grey area and neither of us are 100% correct!

    Not quite IMO Paulus. The Principles of Leadership can be taught and/or modeled/demonstrated and reinforced both positively and negatively until the Principles are firmly installed/accepted and thus demonstrated on a continual basis whilst the recipient is unaware of being observed.

      They look for levels of intelligence and natural leadership skills.
      
      I have contemplated various politicians and how they may have progressed thru the initial 3 day selection course.
      
      Winston Peters would have passed, Jacinda would have failed.

If the information had been available beforehand would we have accepted four vaccinations.

        Stop bending around in a circle Batman. His comments about German energy reliance on Russia and that they should put a stop to it cannot in any way be regarded as friendly toward Russia.
        He may well have been a “goober”, but you are interpreting the clip from that basis. And he was complaining that the US was paying a much larger percentage of their GDP to NATO that other members were (which he rightly believed was unreasonable), and that they were paying to protect Germany from their potential enemy, Russia, whilst Germany relied on Russia for most of it’s energy.
        You appear to be guessing at what Trump was doing, and your guesses aren’t anything but an extension of your personal views of the man. You can’t read anything into this clip that was not said.
        Lastly, on blog moderation, it is interesting that pretty much anyone can bag Trump personally (and sometimes nastily), but try the same with Ardern, and you get a rest. Can you explain the difference?

  Maggie Pie. Mark Styne said weeks ago that the Democrat leaders had used Ukraine to provide jobs for their talentless children. I guess that would be Hunter Biden who sat on the board of an oil company and received a huge salary and Chelsea who scoops off a percentage from the contributions to the Clinton Foundation. Apparently Ukraine contributed to this slush fund very generously. (I wonder if NZ still is?) I must admit that the Russian sanctions made me smile just as Elon Musk’s challenge to Putin for a man-to-man contest, winner getting Ukraine has. Of course the sanctions imposed by “the west” are good, intended to bring about regime change, whereas Putin’s sanctions are not, they are puerile, malicious and evil.

Hilarious: Why Macron’s Zelensky makeover is hilariously misguided

Inappropriate lust for President Zelensky was already at epidemic levels last week. They say truth is the first casualty of war but, for newspaper columnists, it’s self-respect. You could hardly move for articles breathing heavily over Zelensky’s combat gear, his bravery, his leadership, all conveyed by a slick media operation.

Men wanted to be him, women wanted to be with him, with the caveat that they would prefer not to be under constant bombardment. Regular blokes cursed their luck. All that time wasted on self-improvement, when it turns out that all women want is a handsome comedian-turned-war-hero president with a law degree who can dance.

Unsurprisingly this Zelensky-thirst has spread upwards from the general population, through the media and into the political class. One leader above all appears to be suffering from crippling Zelenskyitis. French president Emmanuel Macron has evidently been gazing on his Ukrainian counterpart’s impeccable media campaign with such envy that it clouds his judgment.

How else to explain the bizarre series of photoshoots emanating from the Élysée? Over the weekend Mr Macron’s look has evolved from “corporate burnout” to “hacker luxe”. A faint barbe d’un jour has appeared on his usually hairless features. The white shirtsleeves have gone, replaced by a black French special forces hoodie and jeans, as if at any moment he might be called upon to hack a mainframe or launch a Molotov cocktail at a tank.

Still, we can’t blame him for having a crack. Zelensky’s heroics have seen his approval rating improve from 25 per cent to over 90. Any politician would want a piece of that and Macron has an election coming up in April. He cannot bank on France being invaded between now and then.

So around Wednesday last week benchmark oil prices hit around $130 (USD) a barrel and by Monday they had shed value to around $104 when our oh so with it PM announced her excise relief after the oil companies ( also very with it) jumped fuel prices at the pump on Friday evening. Last night benchmark US Brent Crude bottomed out at around $93 and is currently sitting at $95. I imagine the “with it” oil companies will be dropping the pump prices in about 5,000,001 …. 4,999,999…………… , …………. And will the PM change her stance (again)?

    Some of the answers (guesses) might be in this and they are futures of course but not too far out. Also I think OPEC can increase production quickly (read that somewhere yesterday). Also FED expected to raise interest rate tomorrow so might also be some pricing building in there. Who knows – past history is not necessarily a reliable predictor of future behaviour. Take Spinda for example. 🙂

  This is exactly what the Russian separatists in Ukraine have been trying to get for the last 8 years (at least) in the Donbasse region.
  
  Vice Media has a long series of episodes on the Crimean and Donbasse situation. This was filmed back in 2014, so what is happening now is nothing new.
  
  Regardless of what Vice have become recently, this 2014 series has a good look at what Ukraine was like back then – including looking at both the Russian separatists and the Ukrainian ultra-nationalists.
  
  I don’t think there’s really a good guy in this fight – just various scales of bad. And, like with any civil war, it’s the day to day people that go through the grinder with almost everyone that has a portable valuable skill leaving the country during the last 8 years.

My partner’s mum was telling me she just heard David Seymour saying there’s no longer any point in scanning in….and he ain’t been doing it for weeks now.
She was quite chuffed to hear that. She’s never bothered anyway since it was first mandated.

But it’s like I’ve always said, Remmers was never once designated a ‘location-of-interest’…. and no body we know has had the Rona. Go figure.

  Speaking of “Remmers”, are the 2022 Councils CV’s out for you yet? Feels like some sort of ponzi scheme to me. I seem to remember you have mentioned this before. Our humble 1970’s shack in Kohi has been “earning” $25/ hr – 24/7 for the last five years – They reckon……

  The rugby feast of last weekend Chiefs vCrusaders was spoiled by poor refereeing at the end,
  Not upset by the number of penalties but very upset by Sam Canes early tackle in the last three minutes.
  What made that so bad was his wave of thanks/accountability to the referee and no penalty awarded.
  A game changer.
  
  Again refereeing spoilt a great game of rugby!

Someone off to the side caught Biden’s attention then, and he stepped back slightly from the microphone to hear them.

“Pardon me?” he said, and laughter erupted in the room, only getting louder as Biden clearly realized what he had said. Biden is the First Ladies husband. Sigh.

64 deaths could not be assessed due to insufficient information
21 cases are still under investigation.
2 deaths were likely due to vaccine induced myocarditis (awaiting Coroner’s determination)
