My son was born in New Zealand
I was born in New Zealand
My father was born in New Zealand
My grandfather was born in New Zealand
My great-grandfather was born in New Zealand
My great-great-grandfather was born in New Zealand
Yet not one of us was, or is, more deserving of special privileges than is a person who was just granted their citizenship.

This is the one New Zealand I want my family to live in.
One New Zealand free from racial bias.
One New Zealand free from divisive, separatist agendas.
And importantly, one New Zealand free from political leaders who covertly seek self promotion via these biases, and from these agendas.

Citizenship is the currency of entitlement. Ethnicity is not. It has never been. And any time in history ethnic privilege has been attempted things have gone up badly for everyone.

It’s time for National generally, and Mr Luxon specifically, to nail their colours to the mast. Either they support race-based privilege and separatist agendas, or they support liberal democracy. They can’t do both.

  My great great grandfathers were also born in NZ. I would also add I have a monogamous relationship with NZ. I only pay taxes in NZ. I have my business in NZ. I volunteer in NZ. I only own property in NZ.
  My kids go to school in NZ. I hold no other passport. If a deadly virus, or an earthquake hits, or the economy gets worse – I don’t have a backup country to go to. I am a NZer.

    If so here’s a challenge: The special Maori seats made some sense in the days when there was a land ownership requirement for voting and Maori were impacted because they traditionally did not own land.
    
    That ended on 19 December 1879 with the introduction of universal male suffrage. After that point there was no justification for separate Maori seats.
    
    No government, of any stripe, has had the balls to address that for over 140 years.
    
    If Luxon genuinely believes in equal citizenship then he will address this. Talk is cheap, action is what counts.

      The fact is, Māori seats weren’t abolished, and it is now far too late for it to happen without Māori acquiescence. Get used to it.
      
      As I said to you last Saturday, “the Māori seats can only go when Māori say so. For me, that means when the quotient, as determined under section 45(3) of the Electoral Act 1993, falls to 3.50, or less. Following the 2018 update, the quotient is 7.23 (Māori Electoral Population = 473,077 / SI quota = 65,458 = 7.23).       Neither Bolger nor Key was prepared to unilaterally remove the Māori seats. Nor will Luxon. So forget your challenge, cmm; he will not be taking it up.
      
      He knows that, were he to do so, he would cause massive problems for his government, such that it just wouldn’t be worth the hassle.

      The quality of life for most immigrants increases probably by a factor of 10. Their low wages are now supported by taxes, then they buy a house – with added debt.
      While you as a tax payer, worker and customer repeat yourself. And drive slowly.
      And pay for welfare in now, nearly every household.
      And some of those households send what are loosely described as ‘remittances’ overseas.
      You spend billions on ‘public education’ each year, for business to then turn their noses at it, and demand more immigration.
      Meanwhile your kids have to ‘take jobs and welfare’ or ‘take on debt and education ——– then take on a house.’
      
      The Westminster system of government has morphed into the Westminster system of welfare; Society pays taxes left, right and center, to prop up low incomes, and pay the people needed to deal with the consequences of ‘inequality as part of immigration policy’.
      
      ‘Big Society’ were one of the actions announced by National along the way.

      I actually think April the fourth will be a significant day for New Zealander’s when our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will announce changes to the traffic light system.
      You can just about bet your bottom dollar that Auckland will go Green and the rest of the Country will remain on orange, this will be payback for the lockdowns and the bribe to see the Auckland public return to vote for Jacinda.
      Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister thinks she is irreplaceable and God’s gift to New Zealand when really most people in New Zealand now think she is arrogant and out of touch with reality.

  Couldn’t disagree with you krazy. On this issue I think Luxon is keeping his powder dry.
  I do note that the National party has stated unequivocally that they will repeal and replace three waters. So they seem to be heading in the right direction.
  
  To be fair to Luxon I think that just running for office promising sound governance, balancing the budget, reining in wasteful government spending and promising law and order, would probably do the trick.
  
  Once in office I would like to see National repeal three waters, if it goes ahead and return to one rule of law for all. I don’t think that’s too much to ask?

  I think you will find he has a plan to get up to speed on everything and focus on on not making any major fuckups in the remainder of the year.
  He knows that he will win the next election unless he gifts it to Labour by giving the media something to hang him with.

      Many years ago as a child I was in the Smithsonian in Washington DC and there was a Moa as part of an exhibit. The small plaque noted that the Moa had been made extinct by the early settlers of NZ. I laughed and thought ha, the great Smithsonian has got that wrong. Of course the penny dropped and I realised that it was our propensity to refer to the european settlers of NZ as “the early settlers” that was confused.

      Here’s a quandrary for BwaV.
      My grandfather came to NZ in 1910. He came from Cornwall – his family had been there for about 200 years, being expelled from Scotland during the 17th.c. clearances – so he had 2 lines of Celtic ethnicity. 2 to 3 thousand years ago, the Phonaecians used to trade with the Cornish for tin, trading their pottery – remnants of which have been found by archeologists. The Phonaecians intermarried with the Cornish, giving them a thick set stature, and a light brown skin, and a slightly flat nose – as the Maori have.
      My grandfather learnt the Maori language within a year of being here becaause of where he worked – Te Kuiti and Rotorua on farms etc. Many Maori who got to know him thought he was Maori. I wonder how that plays out with BwaV’s racism – appearance is generally how we identify people, so perception becomes reality.
      Perhaps he protesteth too much – he may not be as pure as the driven snow as he proclaims. 😆

    Yo yo Black with a Vengeance. The white women are right here. Maternal lines are the same for me – NZers. But interestingly my children have a single Maori ancestor – their great great great grandmother, so they are Maori as it is defined in NZ . So we are a mixed family but also a split family if co-governance takes place. Although my part Maori husband has never received any form of voting information or survey documentation on the issues which Maori supposedly co-govern to ask his opinion. And as for hospitals in the south island that supposedly prioritise based on race to create “equality ” so my kids would watch their mother wait on a list because of her skin colour (although they have the same white skin colour and blue eyes)? Many of our Maori representatives have mixed family ancestory, how do they explain it to their white mothers or grandparent that they are not entitled to the same vote, some education or business opportunities etc, same priority of medical care. Where is the information about how co-governance works so people can make an informed vote. If I am not a full citizen in NZ is britain obligated to give me a passport? Race is not binary.

      IMO, there’ll be no vote. They wouldn’t dare. They will not only be soundly defeated but they will also be laughed off the planet and Cindy no doubt knows this or has been advised accordingly.
      If this drama comes to a head, David Seymour’s call for a Referendum should be implemented and the result of the Referendum should become binding on all parties for all time, whatever it is.
      If there’s no Referendum and Labour’s Maori Caucus intentions are implemented through Labour’s numbers in the Parliament, the Police will need a fucking big Riot Squad.

        Don’t forget Luxon has not ruled out a referendum, the media said he did, but the next day he said he would not rule out a referendum, but said there is no need for a referendum at this stage, once again became we don’t know what co governance means, it’s easy to say we know what it means, but as he says, co governance exists now, but it’s going to change, but we do not know what that means at present.

      This is where I depart company with your argument. Citizenship is just a piece of paper. On the other hand, Nationhood is inherently comprised of a particular people in a particular land (the dreaded concept of “blood and soil” that we are encouraged to reject – for instance, our mike reflexively recoils at this idea). The Nation transcends the State that administers it, and citizenship is given by the State. Nationhood is fundamentally about “rootedness” and commonality of identity, genealogy and history, and the idea of a legacy between past, present and future. I would suggest that China and Israel are two excellent contemporary examples of this common-core principle. They are particularist societies, not universalist.
      
      In your comment at the top, you catalogue several generations of your local ancestors: do you not think that this establishes your bone fides as a “New Zealander” to a much greater extent than someone who came here from somewhere else 5 years ago? I do, and that has to be recognised and count for a lot.
      
      Our nation was legally founded in the early 19th century and, like it or not, forged by Anglo-Europeans and Maori. Numerically, the Europeans were more prevalent in its development and establishment, but I grudgingly include the ancestors of our friend Mr Vengeful above. By contrast, someone who rocks up last week from India, China, Morocco or wherever else can become a New Zealand citizen, but they will not be “New Zealanders” in the proper Nationhood sense. As an illustration, go to their countries of origin and make your universal “citizenship” case and they will laugh in your face. This distinction doesn’t entail any hostility towards them, but they should be seen as welcome guests at most. Perhaps these latter get closer towards assimilation to the nation as the generations go by, but it isn’t an on/off switch. I think they have to add to the fabric of the nation before they progress past mere citizens. Someone like Peter Theil is a “New Zealand Citizen” but is he a “New Zealander.” No, I don’t think he is.
      
      The problem with the proposed co-governance agenda is that Maori will unjustifiably dominate and exclude the Europeans whose ancestors built the country to a much greater extent, qualitatively and quantitatively. I have far less of an issue in principle with Maori and European “legacy New Zealanders” having more rights than our recent immigrant friends, which, again, is what you would likely find if you moved to their countries. The problem is Maori getting disproportionate privilege at European New Zealanders’ expense.

        That depends on whether you consider a New Zealander to have different rights under law than does a New Zealand Citizen. If not, then you’re making a semantic argument which I broadly agree with.
        
        But if you are asserting that there are, or should be differences under law then I disagree with the distinction, primarily because it open up a can of worms around preference entitlement criteria which is pretty much where we are today with ethically-based assertion of property rights in perpetuity.

        Sorry, from personal experience I don’t buy that.
        
        I originally come from South Africa. My family went back there until at least 1820 – probably 1700s.
        
        I am white, English speaking. To white Afrikaners I was a foreigner and did not belong in South Africa. Only Boers (white Afrikaners) were true South Africans. I was a “sout piel” (salty dick): one leg in Africa, one leg in England and my dick hanging in the sea. Funny, since I’ve never been to England.
        
        To the Zulus I was “umlungu” – the white foam that blows in off the sea – a foreigner. But to Zulus anyone who is not a Zulu (or at least Xhosa) is a foreigner. Yet up to 18 I lived in the same area the Zulus lived in and could speak Zulu well (though not fluently) – much better than the average Zulu could speak English.
        
        So 30 years ago I came to NZ. I have lived most of my adult life here (almost 50% of my entire life). I have been a citizen since 1998 or so, at which time my South African citizenship was stripped. By this time next year I will have spent most of my life in NZ.
        
        How long before I am allowed to call myself a New Zealander?

      I am intimately connected to them. I belong to them. I feel them in every fibre of my being. I am them.
      
      A pepeha reciting whakapapa isn’t to say that mountain, that river, that canoe, those people belong to us. It is to say we belong to those places. We are descended from them. They are not separate from us. They are us.
      
      From the past to the present to the future they exist in us. Perhaps that might be too foreign a concept for you to grasp but until you do, you will never belong here and this country will never belong to you.
      
      The 21st century means nothing. It’s a date you measure time by. It’s not how we measure time. For us time is not linear. Its not even cyclic. Time is life and it is not measured within the span of your or your male ancestors lives and when they arrived.
      
      Time started with the birth of our ancestors. The elements, the stars, the planets, the universe, life itself. They’re not from here either, but they left their mark here.
      
      I invite you to join us in sharing our ancestry and be connected to something beyond your ability to rationalize. You’ll love it!

      Plenty of countries have no air force at all, let alone an air-to-air combat capability. Lack of such hasn’t meant automatic defeat in dozens of modern wars.
      But the ditching of our air attack force is a good illustration of the mess our politicians consistently make of defence decisions. As is usual, a bad decision by one administration was not corrected by the succeeding administration, which happily went ahead with more bad decisions of its own.

“Water governance and management is causing New Zealanders to get sick” relates, among other instances it seems, to A waterborne disease outbreak occurred in the town of Havelock North in the Hawkes Bay region of the North Island of New Zealand in August 2016. 5500 of the town’s residents became ill with campylobacteriosis, 45 were subsequently hospitalised, and there was a possible contribution to four deaths.

This is a crucial point it the health argument for “3 Waters”

However –
The new framework will be overseen by Taumata Arowai, the new and independent water services regulator.
Taumata Arowai became fully operational as the drinking-water regulator when the Water Services Act 2021 came into effect on 15 November 2021. Part 2A (Drinking Water) of the Health Act 1956 was repealed from this date.
Taumata Arowai has been developing new drinking water standards for water suppliers, which will replace the current Drinking Water Standards for New Zealand (DWSNZ) and come into effect on 1 July 2022.
The Ministry of Health will remain as the organisation in change of drinking-water policy, and will work closely with Taumata Arowai.

  It’s very cunning of the Government to give the new water services regulator a Te Reo name. Although its been common in the past few decades for Government organisations to have an English name and a Te Reo alternative. This new organisation has a Te Reo name only, which is going to disengage the 97% of the population who don’t speak Te Reo. And in doing so, most of the population won’t bother paying attention to it, so then they can do what they like without much scrutiny.

        You obviously don’t realise that Christianity is the fulfilment of the Jewish first Covenant, and grew out of Judaism (obviously traditional Jewish religious people do not believe that) so the Jewish roots of Christianity are all part of the deal. And the pagan spring festivals – because the Europeans adopted Easter for the name of the festival from the hare that belonged to the Saxon goddess doesn’t mean it is part of the Christian Easter – it’s called ‘Inculturation’. Some tax changes today. Here are a few interesting thoughts.

10% of Kiwis in the $100,000 income and above bracket paid 43% of the income tax last year. 60% of us on $40,000 or less paid 13% of all income tax.
The 10% are paying approx. the same amount of total GST as the 60% allowing for savings, no GST on rent etc.

There will be plenty of silly talk today with the tax changes that the wealthy don’t pay enough tax to support the low income. Those claims look sick when you realise that almost half of the tax take comes from 10% of the population. As many countries have found you can end up killing the goose that is laying your gold eggs, unless they fly away first.

By the way a solo mum picks up an extra $80 a week today compared to a low income family of Mum, Dad and three kids who get an extra $40 a week. We have strange values in this country. Someone should mention you tend to get more of what you pay for.

        As you well know, you don’t pay secondary tax as such. All your income is added up (including National Super) and taxed at the relevant tax for that level of your income. If there has been a double deduction on any income you get it back when you do your end of year return.
        
        I was earning additional income (salary) when I first got National Super. The PAYE tax deductions from my salary did not increase.

        Wayne, I was paying secondary Tax. Since stopping work I have changed my Super Tax to ‘M’
        The way that worked well was for the last 5 years I received a very handsome Tax return.
        Would still be working if the employer’s lease had not expired and landlord would not renew. Very had to find another building that suits the product I made. All assets gone into storage, not sold.

  A solo mum now makes more per week in the hand than a first year teacher with a degree who is repaying their student loan. The teacher spent three years unpaid getting the degree and will likely only ever earn 1.5x their starting salary. A high-ranking bureaucrat at Auckland Transport says the council-controlled organisation will not back down on plans to remove parking spaces for cycleways and bus lanes.

“We do have a predetermined agenda. Our predetermined agenda is to create easy journeys for Aucklanders,” AT’s head of integrated network planning Andrew McGill told the Herald.

“We are not going to back down simply because somebody is not going to like it,” he said.

Ahh, this is going beyond somebody “not liking it”, you arrogant man. This is small businesses saying it will kill them. On top of Covid-19, rising fuel costs, freight and supply issues, and an increase to the minimum wage, you are now taking away the parking spaces used by their customers.

When the Herald told McGill that Pirie (a butcher in Mount Eden) needed parking spaces for his shop to survive, he said: “That is his opinion and I don’t necessarily agree with that. There are lots of situations where businesses can continue to thrive and survive where they don’t have a car park right out the front of the shop.”

Watvhing an interview with this odious creep, he said that people are just upset because it represents change, but it’s necessary, and once we plebs understand the rationale we’ll change our minds. May I just say, Mt McGill that that is your opinion and I don’t necessarily agree with that.

The arrogance of Andrew McGill, which is typical of the arrogance of Auckland Transport, is simply stunning.

I am now more determined than ever to actively avoid using public transport where-ever possible, if for no other reason than out of sheer spite. The last time I caught a bus was 15 months ago, and I certainly haven’t missed the experience. And although I am a cyclist, I will make a point of not using any new cycleways that these idealogical nitwits install; where I see a new cycleway I will make a point of cycling on the road. Childish? Yes. Spiteful? Certainly. But I’ve had it with these idiots.   I was involved in the community consultations for the proposed New North Road “upgrade” that AT is promoting.
  Oddly I was the only non-cycling type involved. Everyone else from the AT staff to the locals (or at least i think they were locals) were cycling and public transport nutters.
  What I as a small business owner myself found annoying was the sneering and dismissive attitude of the AT people and the cycling nutters to the small business people – dairy owners, hardressers, cafes bars etc whose business activities will be affected by the “upgrade”.
  That attitude is front and center with Mr McGill.

    If AT tend to get cycling nutters involved (I don’t count myself as one, by the way; I do cycle but for exercise rather than recreation), how on earth do they get it so horribly wrong?
    
    The cycle lane that was added to Richmond Road, near the Surrey Crescent end, going through the local shops there, is abysmal. I think I tried to use it a couple of times, and gave up. It is practically unuseable, thanks to it veering in and out to swerve around traffic islands and weave between carparks, and bloody dangerous as it threads between angled carparks and the footpath. So when a driver parks up, they have to cross the cycle lane to get to the footpath! It’s dreadful.

  How is this restaurant and the many others in that street going to survive?

  AT have form in this. They blocked off part of the main street of Pukekohe “for a trial” which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. The idea being that people will walk everywhere.
  For those who haven’t been to pukekohe, it is not longer the sleepy little country town it was when we moved out this way 45 years ago. It is a busy place.
  It caused major traffic conjestion, traffic accidetnts, the shops couldn’t get deliveries and there was a big outcry. The shops had no customers, especially for places liek Woofles that sells dog food, where people stop, call in and go and don’t want to carry a bag of dog bones to the other end of town. Some of the concrete blocks were moved out of the way by some public spirited citizens, with much screeching from AT about prosecutions.

But following the passage of the Local Government Act in 2002, which vastly broadened the scope of such government, and with the creation of the Auckland Super City, which has such a massive impact on New Zealand, I think National’s reluctance is very wrong.

1 – under the present system
2 – under “3 Waters”

and will the same contractor to do the actual repair be used in both cases?

And in housing news from the media today. Not a joke.

Wellington a buyers market. Average asking price over a mill, yoy up 17%, yoy listings up 158%. Auckland heading for a buyers market but with yoy listings only up 30%. Listings nationally up 32%.

Meanwhile for the third of New Zealanders renting, TradeMe reports yoy number of rental vacancies down 6% yoy, median rent at a record high. And most landlords plan to increase rents this year (Tony Alexander).

So to join some dots. Some of those homes for sale will be people selling up and leaving the country. But reasonable to assume about a third of homes for sale are rentals, either vacant or soon to be.

Holding costs of rentals have increased dramatically with more to come. Same with increased restrictions on the ability of landlords to manage their own assets, and more to come probably. Social housing waiting list 26,329 up 20,976 from June 2017,. No doubt with more to come.

Did I mention more to come?

New builds for sale increasing month by month (TradeMe). Developers having a few sleepless nights. Looks like more to come.

Auditor General has released a report on $290 million in funding allocated to tourism businesses by a committee of Labour MPs. Applicants not required to submit financial detail, records not kept, no criteria for Maori businesses. Treasury and other departments’ advice was not followed. Frequently the MPs awarded more money than asked for. No evidence of kickbacks reported. The first award was to Whalewatch Kaikoura which applied by letter with no supporting documents or financial analysis. Questions for oral answer on Tuesday will be interesting, supposing Parliament is sitting. How will the Speaker deny an urgent debate, I wonder? No doubt he’s working that out this weekend.

When Jacinda Ardern said to Patrick Gower during a 2017 election leader’s debate that she believed that it was possible “to be in politics and not tell lies” …. was the rest of the answer meant to have been “because I am good at spinning answers and deflecting the truth”?

We will never know because Paddy never asked Ardern to justify her original response … instead the MSM went into “luuvvy overdrive” hyping up NZ’s first ever “honest” politician!

(But we know don’t we … all of Ardern’s “refutes” and “denials” of the obvious, and her refusal to ever acknowledge ever being wrong when the evidence shows otherwise, highlights her original statement to Gower to be an absolute howler of a lie)!

Oddly co-incident to my writing the above comment, “3 Waters – 1 above, 1-News now carries an article “Drinking water chlorination amongst Three Water changes underway” which says –

… behind the scenes is the creation of a new water regulator Taumata Arowai, which from [last] November started overseeing drinking water rather than health authorities.

The third aspect of the reforms is legislation passed last year, the Water Services Act 2021. The Havelock North gastroenteritis outbreak in 2016 that left thousands ill and four people dead is what sparked the Three Waters reforms.

,,, Tasman Mayor Tim King says not enough people know about the impact of the changes …
“I think the Water Services Act is probably one of the most significant bits of legislation and unfortunately it’s sort of got lost amongst everything else.” [1]

Why was it lost?
Because Taumata Arowai, an entity independent of the other “3 Waters” entities, is the crux of establishing ‘3 Waters’, so having been established, reduces the rest of “3 Waters” to looking after the plumbing, which Maori may not be quite so interested in?

Why was it lost?
This heart of “3 Waters” could easily have been advertised on television instead of a few Changing Speed Limits (The Rubbish Ones, The Shit Ones) ads.

Kudos to National Party president Peter Goodfellow, the Board and to Christopher Luxon for hosing down the online trolling story in double-quick time. The two Young Nats involved were spoken to by an unnamed Board member, read the riot act, and have resigned from the party.

Compare that to Labour’s response to allegations of indecent assaults at their summer camp a few years ago. Their reluctance to comment allowed the story to fester and to stay in the media for weeks. It eventually led to the resignation of Labour’s president.

What National did yesterday was classic crisis management. They responded quickly, and have effectively distanced themselves from the people involved. There will be little, if any blowback. Who knows, Megan Woods might even compliment them on the speed with which they shut down people anonymously abusing her which would be quite ironic, given one of the victims of the summer camp turned to Woods when the Labour Party hierarchy seemed not to be taking the allegations seriously.

      The HDC Act has been in force for years – this is why I fail to understand all the palava about why the so called ‘hate speech’ suggested law is necessary. The solutions already exist, both with online abuse and the other existing laws to deal with inciting violence. Less hui and more doey would seem to be a solution, as has worked in this case.
      At this stage, it does also appear that the IP address owner may possibly be an unfortunate victim of circumstances, but the fact that he has also resigned helps put a line under the stupidity that is online abuse.

  As I’ve said before when these types of scandal crop up, in any large organization instances of bad behaviour are inevitable over time. That is simply a statistical reality. What matters is (A) does the organization’s culture encourage or discourage these behaviours, and the related point (B) how does the organization handle these behaviours when they happen.
  
  In this instance National has done the right thing and made it clear that these actions were unacceptable. In complete contrast to Labour’s last few scandals, where their sole focus was on covering things up. Labour talks all woke and virtuous about not tolerating bullying and harassment, but every time their actions show otherwise.

    See my reply to Warren above, and the link. Labour was aware it had a culture problem involving bullying and sexual harassment well before the infamous summer camp, but did nothing about it.
    
    On the other hand, Chris Luxon told Kate Hawkesby this morning that he spent time over the summer recess from Parliament working on a Code of Conduct for the National Party. I’m sure his motivation in doing that was largely to rein in caucus, but it’s a no-brainer that people who bring a party into disrepute are going to get the arse card; in National, at least.

Sadly, this one is not an April Fool’s joke – or at least, the joke is on us taxpayers, as usual.

The Auditor-General looked into the $290 million this government planned to spend to assist tourism businesses hit by Covid in 2020. And found a slush fund “scant regard for conventional Government processes”, and Ministers “didn’t bother to keep proper records.”

With true Labour regard for other people’s hard-earned money, they managed to fund three tourism businesses before establishing an actual funding system. And without much in the way of documentation from the businesses concerned.

Over a quarter of the businesses were then given more money than they asked for.

And then the Ministers decided not enough Maori businesses were being funded, so they dropped the criteria they did have altogether for them.

So councils are making decisions about mandates and passes. Some gone already or about to be.

Auckland Council is hanging in there for a few more months. Wellington CC has decided to remove the vax pass requirement ‘soon’ but is consulting staff. Presumably about that ‘soon’.

It will be interesting to see when the ‘soon’ is, as if it is not 4 April it will be due to terrified staff. Because reasons.

Interested to hear what other councils are doing.

  They do appear to be positioning to be starting a new gold standard, which has been looking like it might have been a plan for a decade or so (when they started buying up gold reserves). The Chinese have been increasing gold reserves over the last decade or so as well.

As the UK starts a programme aimed at jabbing 5 – 11 year olds, a UK celebrity doctor on mainstream media states that:

“It’s important we remind parents that the [Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization] have looked into all of the data, they’ve told us the benefits far outweigh the risks. The risks are extremely low, and the risks of Covid much higher.”

This is a blatant and outright lie.

Let’s take the statements in reverse order.

Are the “risks of Covid much higher than the risks of the vaccine?”

They have literally no way of knowing.

But since Covid’s survival rate for children is something like 99.9998%, does it even really matter?

Do the benefits of the vaccine “far outweigh its risks”?

Again, they have literally no way of knowing.

But since the vaccine manufacturers:

openly acknowledge in their supply contracts that their product may have unknown side effects,
have demanded legal immunity to protect themselves from being sued should their vaccine cause harm, and released a document listing 9 pages of over 1200 “adverse events of special interest”, which they defend by saying there “may not be a causal relationship” …they are at least aware that there might be some risks.”

    Yes, that’s when i first took at interest in Ivermectin, and whether it was efficacious – when Bloomfield called it a horse dewormer.
    
    Of course, like some others here I was aware that it was one of the most used and safest drugs in the world (way safer than paracetamol) and that its ‘inventors’ had won the Nobel Prize for it. So the BS detector went into overdrive.

      At no point has it worked for humans to fight a viral infection, at a dosage which wouldn’t nearly kill the human.

      Many treatments/drugs do many different things with side effects. Hydroxy – malaria is an example. I take Amitriptyline along with other pain killers.
      Amitriptyline is used for mood swings, unbalanced stuff and many others. No I am not psycho – yet!
      I take it because one of the side effects is helping to repair nerve damage. Yeah, it has come back, pinched nerve C8 nerve root (C8) due to possible herniated disc at C7/T1

  A quick search on Google brings up a fair number of times when he has been proven to be wrong, and has even admitted himself that he was wrong. Newspapers have had to back track on the stuff that he has written, the Independant springs to mind.

Singapore Airlines dont provide an email address, just a maze of of a website which keeps looping back to something called contact your Local office.
In Auckland good luck getting anyone to answer the phone.

Malaysian Airlines. (Trying to find out when flights restart from Auckland). Found an email address for Reservations. Auto reply with what will happen after 15th June. Real helpful-NOT!

  I think worst customer service – and service in general – goes ito NZ post. I was sent some urgent documents on overnight courier at 10am Monday from Blenheim to Christchurch. They are yet to arrive. They cannot be found in the physical system though they appear to exist in the virtual one. I have spent hours on the phone, have driven around courier depots where their 0800 number has told me to go and eventually spent hundreds with my lawyer getting the documents redone physically brought down by a friend. Just had a notification that they are at a Chch depot. Somewhere.

  I once took my malfunctioning iPhone to 2Degrees in Onehunga who sent it for repairs to somewhere near the airport.
  It couldn’t be fixed so it was replaced.
  All in a few days.
  However.
  The courier company sent it to China and that’s where the problems started, as one can imagine.
  I spent the next month getting the run around from various people parties before someone finally gave me a seemingly secret number for Apple in Sydney.
  Straight through. Someone sorted things out right away and then sounded like they were going to turn their attention to whoever who fucking with their products.
  To my way of thinking I gave the phone to 2Degrees, it’s their problem.
  I was all set to break out a suit and tie and confront someone at HQ, but it was impossible to find a number to ring.

There’s been a lot of pearl clutching over the Solomon Islands and China striking a deal.

Well I say so what?

Let’s stop treating the Solomon Islands like children. Let’s start treating them like grown ups.

That means they get to decide who their friends are and who they hang out with.
That means they are responsible for the decisions they make.
That means they no longer need their “parents” (Oz, NZ etc) to pay them pocket money, feed them and clothe their police forces, run their public services and look over their shoulders.

These countries will never grow up if we keep treating them like teens.

  Although if there’s corruption involved (what do you think …) then that’s a different story.
  
  But choices have consequences. Careful who you lie down with. And don’t expect countries like NZ & Australia to be as helpful towards you in future.
  
  For NZ & Australia we have our own decisions to make.
  
  (1) To what extent do we try to make it attractive to the Solomons to align with us?
  
  (2) To what extent do we need to shake our complacency about defence and prepare a robust military capability to counter anything China bring?

  So then Russia don’t get any income, let alone income in roubles.

Parkside wards are described as squalid and third world.

Two years ago, I spent a week in one of these wards. Sure they had a few scuffs and dings, but in no way were they squalid or third world. They were perfectly functional and in no way compromised staff or patient safety.

Unlike the breathless reporter, I’ve actually been in third world hospitals. Completely different!

A few of the nurses who sorted me out there were African. I’m sure that they would agree too.

It is all very well being over-entitled and insisting that all our facilities look like well groomed 5 star resorts, but at what cost? I’d rather then money went into actual health equipment and personnel than on cosmetics.

  I checked Google to see if Thailand is a third world country and depending who you believe it is or it may be second world.
  Either way nobody seems to be able to pin down the definitions.
  Anyway
  I’ve had plenty of experience with Bangkok hospitals, both personally and through my wife.
  In my opinion the kit over there at the top hospitals is first rate and easily accessible, but the quality of nursing care fades away.
  I had a hip replacement, dental work, dvt, epilepsy & skin cancer expertly handled by top specialists, but things tended to be uneven after that.
  Free car parking, but that was the extent of the largesse.
  My wife goes to subsidized hospitals where the doctors are overworked, but still get the job done at a fraction of the cost.
  One day I was sitting in the, unairconditioned, waiting room waiting for my wife when about four guys sat next to me all handcuffed together.

Was in Hamilton today shopping in TeRapa, first at Countdown and then over to the Base Mall and after looking around I would have to say it would be the smallest crowd I have seen at the base in all the time we have been shopping there. So for Grant Robertson to tell us the Country is recovering from the Covid economical storm is a load of crap and many businesses are doing it hard.

The Herald – “Covid 19 Omicron: Top scientist’s warning after catching virus ” Caption: “Terry Taylor was shocked at the ferocity of his symptoms when he tested positive for Covid-19. ”
Mr Taylor was fully vaxxed and boosted.

The main idea promoted by the article is that omicron is severe. But surely the story is that the boosters failed to stop transmission or severe symptoms.
