    Definitions aren’t trolling – definitions matter. Legislation needs to include definitions. Eg. for Woman, Maori, Vaccination and Pandemic .
    The traffic light legislation allows discrimination on vaccination but never defines it.
    
    And are we really saying that a person can choose their gender based on identiy feelings and it has no biological basis, yet at the same time race exists and requires special legislation and must be proven through iwi by a family tree and a single named ancestor.

      Brown-Jackson clearly has sympathy for pederasts, but almost no-one from either side of the political spectrum would share her comfort or understand her choice to in almost all cases hand out lowest possible sentences for men who share videos of children being gang raped. She is clearly a judicial activist, and as such is a poor choice for the Supreme Court whose constitutional function is to interpret law, not make it.

    That is absolutely the best way to ask questions. Words matter, definitions matter. New Zealand, perhaps the only western democracy to have had 3 female Prime Ministers, is in the vanguard of the attack against women.
    
    By sending Gavin Hubbard to the Olympics to compete as a woman, against all logic, biology and that very uncommon attribute, common sense, New Zealand has stated that biological women (i.e. women) can have their sporting and often professional dreams sacrificed on the altar of woke. Let alone the actual threat of injury, which has been demonstrated many times especially in combat sports.
    
    If you think that doesn’t matter, shame on you.

    The Green, Woke Mayor of Dunedin campaigned against the popular name of Gypsy Day in the dairy industry, but I don’t recall any report of these people within New Zealand being offended by the term.
    
    (It was, and perhaps still is, applied to the day when share milking contractors change farms, sometimes moving herds on rural roads.)
    
    Another question is whether India yet officially recognises Roma/Gypsies as part of the Indian diaspora. That is after perhaps well over a thousand years, but might be a precedent for Taiwan recognising Maori as part of the diaspora of that island’s hill tribes.

Interesting that the numbers of 5 to 11 year olds who are double vaccinated for COVID is only 19 percent. 54 percent have had one shot and most of those will now be eligible for the second shot.

It seems that many parents have decided not to go back for the second shot. Michael Baker won’t be happy.

      Me and my unvaccinated kids had covid along with most of the other kids on the street (they all play together) and compared to the common cold it was the weakest cold any of us have ever had. Most people are realizing this now and wondering what all the fuss was about. The way Baker and his peers crow on about it we feel he must be getting paid by Pfizer or something because it really is a nothing burger. I’m surprised anyone listens to him and Jacinda anymore.   Benedict – I’m pleased that parents have decided not to go back for the second shot. The risk of covid for 5 to 11-year-olds is very very very minimal.
  I would suggest that the risk of the vaccine producing unwanted side effects is greater than the risk of covid for children.
  
  The other reason for children to get the vaccine was so that they wouldn’t get covid and pass it on to their parents. Well that hasn’t worked. The fact of the matter is that our public health authorities have admitted that the vaccine doesn’t stop you getting covid. The reason to take the vaccine is that you won’t get sick and die. Seeing as children are extremely unlikely to get sick and die of covid, seeing as they are just as likely to get covid vaccinated or not, one wonders what is the point of the vaccine rollout for children?

We estimated the rate of confirmed infection and severe Covid-19 as a function of time starting at 8 days after receipt of a fourth dose (four-dose groups) as compared with that among persons who had received only three doses (three-dose group) and among persons who had received a fourth dose 3 to 7 days earlier (internal control group). For the estimation of rates, we used quasi-Poisson regression with adjustment for age, sex, demographic group, and calendar day.
        
        It is quite common nowadays for MSM science reporters to omit links to the original papers.

    That’s a real unknown, and with death rates far less than 1 in a million for healthy kids with omicron (they are 1000’s of times more likely to die of other things this year) the precautionary principle should rule – don’t take the unknown risk for something that has so close to zero reward.

    The reality is that Omicron achieved what the vaccines failed at – it wiped out Delta, no doubt avoiding much death and illness. When Delta was around, I followed the evidence carefully, and I thought “I don’t really want to get seriously ill with this thing at my age, even though the probability of serious illness was low”, so I got vaccinated. But Omicron is a game changer. Something never acknowledged by Baker.
    
    This week he actually said he was “astonished” that 1 million people had not got their booster. What a clown.

These days even Kiwiblog adds a diacritic mark over the a in Maori. These marks show up frequently in the various Maori names and phrases that the government is pushing into our lives.

Why are they there? Maori didn’t have such marks in their written language before Captain Cook arrived, because there was no written language yet. Who came up with them?

If they’re needed to tell us how to better pronounce names that many have pronounced in other ways for years (Taupo), then how come the government uses no diacritic marks on any of our English placenames? Don’t we have to know how to “correctly” pronounce those well?

And who gets to decide how to pronounce Taupo, Gisborne, or Greymouth, anyway?

These symbols are more likely about puffery, performative politics, virtue-signaling, intimidation, and creation of an exclusive club of those “in the know”.

  My best guess, dcrane, is that some language specialists have decided that the way Maori pronounce those names is better represented by the use of those diacritic marks.
  
  There’s nothing wrong with that; other language specialists will probably admire their work.
  
  But as those marks aren’t used in English (which most New Zealanders speak) and most of us use (American) English keyboards, the marks won’t convey any useful information to the wider population and they won’t be able to reproduce them in their own typed communications.

        Seems that just as English had RP, The Maori language Commission decided that East Coast (Ngati Porou) pronunciation would be the standard taught in learning institutions.
        
        (I only heard W(h)anganui dialect for the first 30 years of my life… hard to break old habits over here in Gizzy….

  I read the article differently, and as it is paywalled it is interesting to read everyone’s reactions here to this paraphrased comment. It shows how speculation quickly turns to rumour which then becomes fact.
  
  Hooten also said Shaw had options overseas and back at his PWC consultancy position.
  
  The point Hooten was making was if Luxon is PM Carr will be gone and Shaw would be a shoo-in as a replacement. Personally, I’d be celebrating Carr going.

    Prior to that the National government of Rob Muldoon imposed a long term rent freeze in June 1982, along with wages and prices.

    There seems to be evidence that rents are on a bit of a tear. No surprise as values have gone through the roof and rents follow them. Night and day. Return on investment and all that.
    
    The last freeze I remember was Muldoon’s effort in the 70’s. As I recall it didn’t work exactly as intended.
    
    The KB approach to escalating rents seems to be “do nothing” or maybe a bit less.
    
    There are people out there hurting now who would like to see things happen now. Even soon would help. Maybe the best thing would be an increase in the accommodation supplement. This would facilitate further rent increases which – like all subsidies – would immediately be capitalised into the value of the asset. What’s not to like?
    
    So what to do? Rent controls would be a pretty radical step. I would love to hear some other solution that would help in a time frame less that five years,

      build more houses and reduce the costs of doing that (ie cut the 100’s of k in regulatory overhead) is only answer. Govt is clearly incompetent at doing that.
      
      And what the hell is the next, hopefully competent government going to do about 20-30k people, 4-5k kids living in motels? That is an enormous problem to solve.

        I did say “within 5 years”. On the (affordable) housing front this government has turned out to be no better and no worse than the ones that preceded it.
        
        Whatever it was that got Porirua, Hutt Valley, Avondale etc etc built way back when, I don’t understand why it can’t be done again ….
        
        There was a lot of hooha a while back about how factory built houses were going to be the thing. Didn’t happen – at least one prefab house factory went bust and you don’t hear about them any more. I’m a bit surprised that KO aren’t on to that one.
        
        Lord knows what happens to the people in motels in the next year or two. As I have observed before, the motel owners have the problem that MSD clients are far and away the most profitable …..

      Rising interest rates and therefore rising mortgage rates are having the expected effect on the housing market, a drop of 10% being predicted by some, I suggest 20 – 30% is feasible as the mortgagee sales pick up over the next 12 months.
      IMO the rents have not increased to the level of house price increases as the tenants wages are simply unable to keep up with that ratio.
      Labour government policies created the escalating rents and the economic fall out of their policies will assist in redressing these.
      Young and first home buyers who have entered the hot and over-priced housing market in the past 12 months on the other hand are unfortunately about to find out all about the term negative equity.

  Someone (eg Media/Opposition) should ask Marama Davidson about what the unintended consequences are (and see if Davidson can answer them).
  
  For example, even if a rent freeze was imposed, would Labour/Greens carry on with things like imposing more regulations on landlords eg more “healthy homes” type initiatives in which landlords have to spend further money … without any means to recoup costs?
  
  If so one can imagine more “mum and dad” type investors selling up their rentals and if they sell to first home owners (which is good for those people) then it means less rental homes on the market, making things worse for renters!
  
  Also according to Newshub last night they played a clip of Housing Minister Megan Woods saying “no” to rent freezes …. did Marama Davidson even think to consult her senior and lead colleague?
  
  If not then ZB’s Andrew Dickens was right yesterday when he interviewed Davidson and asked her if she was “virtue signalling” (Davidson was not impressed with that line of questioning – she must have been expecting a “Red Radio” type easy and soothing interview)!

  That isn’t Pink Floyd. It’s Sid Barrett’s replacement, David Gilmour and one of the former band members virtue signaling along with a couple of session musicians. To say this is Pink Floyd is misinformation.
  
  Gilmour is a talented guitarist and vocalist but can’t write songs for shit. Roger Waters was always the brains and the driver of Pink Floyd after Barrett was removed due to his acid induced psychosis.
  Waters is the person who is responsible for all of the classic albums associated with Pink Floyd. Once he left, the name carried on, but the sound became at best, mediocre.
  Gilmour to be kind, is a bit naive politically. When it comes to geopolitics he’s a blond.
  Waters on the other hand has a very good understanding around geopolitics. That’s why the Graun article quotes Gilmour as saying he is “disappointed” at Water’s response in which he said:
  
  ……talk of a Russian invasion was “bullshit … anybody with an IQ above room temperature knows [an invasion] is nonsense”; he has subsequently condemned the invasion calling it “the act of a gangster”, while also condemning “propaganda to demonise Russia”
  
  Waters is correct, Gilmour is a virtue signaling tool using the Pink Floyd brand to promote his own personal views.

I need some advice please. Got a little email from IRD to tell me I could file my tax return which they have virtually filled in for me but there are mistakes and missing income in their version.

This never used to be a problem. I would just amend it and file it but I can’t find any way of doing this now that they seem to have changed their system. They do suggest to go back to those I got income from and tell them to send the info – yeah right.

I want to do this myself as I have always done rather than email or call them. Any suggestions. After all even if they have got it wrong, I will be pinged if it is wrong.

  The IRD only ever send an email to say that there is a letter waiting for you on your MyIR login. They never send information directly. You have until 7th July to file your 2022 return and IRD won’t open their system for filing returns for a few weeks yet as they are still recieving data from the banks and share registries.

The move to implement cogovernance in Rotorua will flush out the government’s support for this travesty for the whole country. Those who think we can reverse this through the next election may be in for a rude surprise.
Under our weak constitutional arrangements there is nothing to stop the government implementing cogovernance for the entire country before the 2023 election. If that was to happen it would be virtually impossible to reverse it.
What recourse would lovers of democracy have if that was to happen? Civil uprising?
Don’t forget that both the minister of police and the minister of defence are Maori.

What more evidence do you need than a gang with their logos after attending a club day brutally attacks a man. Hi judge can we get a search warrant to electronically survey the organisation that nearly killed this man after attending a gang event. The article reads like they’ve got nowhere. Isn’t that how Rudy Guliani made his name, got a search warrant for surveillance of the mob and cleaned up NYC. While you need more specific evidence to convict surely there is enough evidence of the criminal organisation to get surveillance on them.

      Actually, Milky, Ursula von der Leyen, is bound to have an interesting family background.
      
      She was born in Brussels, into a German noble family (originally, and perhaps, in part, still Mennonite).
      
      I take it Master Mariner’s reference to Von Der Leyen’s grandfather is something that could be made about millions of German people. So many of them had grandfathers or great-grandfathers in Operation Barbarossa.
      
      According to the Grauniad:

  It’s actually much higher than that because the vast majority of those that didn’t sign the Treaty didn’t actually have any rights any way. Maori had tribal leadership and anyone not of the “ruling families” (for the most part) had no say. The quiet part that they’re mnot saying about co-governance is that this is still the case. The Treaty was not between the Crown and Maori it was between the Crown and Iwi leadership. The only rights conferred on ordinary Maori were under article 3 which gave each Maori person the same rights as anyone else individually.

Mrs kk has taken 4 regional flights in the last fortnight.

3 of them were first delayed, and then “cancelled due to engineering”.

In all three instances every one of the travelers impacted was moved to a later flight on the same route, and that later flight was 95-100% full.

I believe AirNZ is now routinely cancelling flights for economic reasons, no matter the inconvenience to their customers.

Recently stumbled across an interesting 4 part drama on Netflix called ‘Tokyo Trials’, about the war crimes trials in Japan at the end of WW2 (they had a strong Kiwi link as one of the leading Allied judges was a New Zealander).
It gives a fascinating insight into what went on both in the court room and behind the scenes, and is particularly interesting at the moment with the talk of one day putting Putin on trial for war crimes.

The Local Government Commission has today released its determination in respect of the Rotorua Lakes Council (see https://www.lgc.govt.nz/representation-reviews/current-determinations/view/rotorua-district-council-2022/?step=main).

It has determined that the 10 councillors will be elected from one urban ward (6), one rural ward (1), and one district-wide Māori ward (3).

This determination is fully compliant with the Local Electoral Act 2001, and it upholds democracy. Unfortunately, as we all know, it will not be put into effect: it will be replaced by an undemocratic 3-3-4 model, comprising one General ward (3), one Māori ward (3), and four councillors to be elected district-wide.

(It is interesting to note that the council’s initial proposal was a perfectly compliant, democratic, 2-4-4 model.)

But, oh no, those pushing the interests of Māori-roll electors insist on those electors being able to vote for the same number of councillors as General-roll electors, being seven, even though the Māori Electoral Population of the district comprises only 28% of the total population.

Ah, well. Such is life, I suppose.

Given that the lies about who is pro-child abuse seem to be continuing, perhaps a refresher is needed on just what kind of people are being sentenced for such crimes:

Former Trump aide, RNC operative, and “pro-life” activist Ruben Verastigui has just been sentenced to 12+ years in prison for child porn. He posted about how the sexual abuse of babies is his “absolute favorite.”

    Unless National / ACT have a solid 5 – 10 seat majority, they may as well pack up tents and go home. With all the pending financial, health, police and social disasters unfolding, any lesser majority will be untenable to be able to make the bold decisions required. All the while, like cornered rats with their cheese (funding) taken, the MSM will be sniping, abusing, lying, and howling about how unfair they are .. look at all those poor people living in cars! Went out to pay our Hedge man earlier. Relly really neat guy.
He was telling me his Tip-Fees have doubled in the last few months to $230 a ton for green waste!
What a rip-off!!

And to make matters worse, he was saying he’s had over a thousand dollars in fines since Christmas for speeding thru the Waterview Tunnel in his truck.

As i said to him…..that’s Phil Goff for you.
