“Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson on Friday released the feedback from the first phase of targeted engagement with Māori on developing a plan to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).”

… “There was often comment by participants that the establishment of the new Māori Health Authority could give a sign for a potential approach in the justice system.”

Work will soon begin on a revamp of the Māori medium and Kaupapa Māori pathways programme that will reconnect more Māori tamariki with their language and culture.
The move, which will see legislation likely introduced in early 2023 to provide a regulatory framework for growing the sector, is aimed at seeing 30 per cent of Māori learners participating in Kaupapa Māori/Māori medium education by 2040.
“This is a change I called for when I was a principal. It is a change that kōhanga, kura and wānanga have fought for; and a change that whānau, hapū and iwi, parents and Māori communities want, Associate Minister of Education Kelvin Davis says.

  Councils generally title the section of their staff that provides clerical support for council and committee meetings ‘democratic services’ or some such. Council chief executives used to be called town clerks. Even the smallest organizations today tend to have a ‘chief executive’, even if they have no other executives.

    That’s correct, mike, I was a CEO with a staff of 2. My predecessor was an Executive Director but he wanted to differentiate between us, in that he was (and remained) on the board and I was not. Staff did grow to 15 over the years.

  Yeah, what? What is “parity” and why is parity assumed to be the new standard for democracy? Is it the same as that other buzzword “equity?” Or “partnership?”
  These are all words picked up by the activists as bedrocks for guiding the future. They avoid the difficulties of having to think or defend their view.
  They are a smoke screen, a shield that shuts down debate. More importantly these words avoid having to articulate the ugly truth that a fascist coup is being engineered that will impose a ghastly injustice on future generations.

So Whitney Hansen, daughter of Steve, is an assistant coach for the NZ women’s rugby team.
She may well possess the mental skills to inspire female rugby players, but given her gross obesity she can hardly be a role model for them in the physical aspects of the game, not to mention the dietary requirements.
Not a good choice.

    Not now.
    
    If you are not 6’2″ at least and cannot run 100 yards in under 10.5secs they do not want to know you.
    
    There is no place for Neil Wolfe or Bluey Arnold in the modern game which I find very hard to watch because of the league like changes.

Hailing from Christchurch, Hansen had coached club and age group teams before joining the coaching teams for the Black Ferns Development side in 2019 and New Zealand Barbarians in 2020.     Duncan Laing was always a big man, in 1956 he was captain of the NZ surf life saving team to go to the Melbourne olympics in the demonstration sport SLS, Duncan also played prop for Taranaki in the 50s, and was part of their team that held the Ranfurly Sheild, Duncan was a great swimmer, you don’t get into that life saving team without it

Had a good chuckle this morning reading an article on Stuffed about our finance minister. The line that got me laughing was;
“The Labour Finance Minister came to power with many ambitions, but one overarching theme. He wanted to prove that the idea that Labour Party Finance Ministers were bad with money was false”.
Well, he sure failed there. At least he admits what we all know, that Labor finance ministers are useless.
Here’s what Wikipedia make of his qualifications
“Robertson attended King’s High School in Dunedin, where he was head boy.[4] He later studied political studies at the University of Otago, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with honours in 1995.[5] His honours dissertation studied the restructuring of the New Zealand University Students’ Association in the 1980s.”
Considering he has never worked or studied finance in his life maybe he should of found a role more suitable to his qualifications and experience. What an embarrassment this whole government is. Who the hell put this lot in charge.

    By comparison, lets look at the achievements while in the job.
    Douglas – accountancy……GST a great idea here today
    Richardson – law…..recovered the economy from the disaster of Lange govt.
    Birch – surveying…carried on from Ruth, and recovered from the Asia crisis
    Cullen – history…took a strong economy and spent it to oblivion, we were in recession a year before the GFC (and a “cupboard is bare…philosophy”)
    English – literature….recovered from Cullen and GFC (after prediction of endless deficits) and handed over a strong economy
    Robertson – history….took a strong economy and destroyed it BEFORE covid.

    What gets me with so much of this government is that every role they fill they find the most unqualified person for the job. Why? They do it so much you have to think it is intentional, no one can be so stupid. Robbo is the most unqualified person for the job, he has no experience in finance. What would happen if pervious to becoming finance minister he had of applied as ceo of one of the big banks? The person filtering the cv’s would of rolled their eyes and be thinking seriously as they threw it through the shredder. So how the hell does he get employed as finance minister? I can’t find the words to describe this scenario, how did it get to the point where the people in government are so totally unqualified. This countries fucked.

  Roger Douglas…the last Labour Minister of finance with knowledge of Finance?
  Douglas had a summer job at the Auckland accounting firm Mabee, Halstead and Kiddle, accepting a job there at the end of 1952. He gained a degree in accountancy from Auckland University College in 1957. Afterwards, he was hired by Bremworth Carpets in South Auckland as company secretary.

      you are right in that the Reserve Bank decided to change the name of the country by putting “Aotearoa” on banknotes before any offical change of the country’s names.
      
      Pity the central bankers hadn’t kept a prudent eye on inflation.
      
      As for passports, Maori language, known to less than 0.064 per cent of the world’s population, is useless symbolism for travellers and confusing to border officials.

        Here’s the Maori Dictionary term for inflation: tāmi ahumoni.
        
        And an example from the dictionary of its use:
        Ko te tāmi ahumoni te pikinga o ngā utu i tētahi pūnaha ōhanga i te takanga o te wā.
        
        It says this means “Inflation is the increase in prices in an economy over a period of time .”

    Aotearoa is not a country at all. It is a word used to describe the main north island of New Zealand, whilst Te Waipounamu is used to describe the mainland, Aotea, Waiheke and Rakino are amongst a large group of smaller islands.
    
    Down here in the mainland we often feel ignored when initiatives are aimed at Aotearoa, and we have to call to see whether we also qualify – –

      Aotearoa wasn’t used for the name of the country until much later. NZ was never a unified country back then, they had no concept of one. For example the Cook Islands. Hence the Treaty never mentioning Aotearoa once. It was an English writer who popularised it.

        NZ Pidgin would wipe out Maori language as well as English in NZ. Indigenous languages survive, as in Nigeria, when a Pidgin English provides a bridge between them.

  I scan read the paper but I nearly choked when I read the last sentence:

  Well I must have mistakenly tuned in to a 1300 satirical sketch, where complicit paid off muppets asked softball questions (usually on a muted microphone), despite having the benefit of hindsight from events happening all around the world to ask some very searching questions of the government.
  
  Many global surveys demonstrate that confidence in today’s Western media is at an all time low. Public trust will only further diminish given such delusional lack of awareness of those in the (so called) profession.

Does anyone know the origin of the use of the word ‘Kiwi’ for the nuclear thermal rocket programme run by NASA at Los Alamos?

  Several New Zealanders were involved in the Manhatten Project, after Ernest Marsden figured out what the Brits and Americans were up to and volunteered some of our scientists. I forget the details, but it is possible that some stayed on, or that they left an etymological influence.

It would also have radioactive exhaust. Another Russian mad scientist concept weapon is a nuclear powered and nuclear armed torpedo which could stay at sea for months or years being recalled for periodic maintenance. I have long held the opinion that Pike River was a cluserf**k whihc required the collusion of the then Government, The EPMU, the Directors and Shareholders of the Pike River Mine.
It is inteterestng to me that one Andrew Little then President of the EPMU was placed in charge of the very enquiry that woulld uncover some of the ongoing dilution of safety standards set in action under Helen Clarks’s Government and aided by the Directors at Pike Rive which resulted in so much loss of lives.

The narrative has been to place all the blame on evil capitalists. But while Little was cultivating his political career, it could be argued that his own union colluded in relaxed safety standards which meant that one of his own Shop Stewards died in the fire.

So thank goodness for transparency and a new Government willing to get to the bottom of this and achieve ‘justice’ for the families of those killed – or at least promised to when it was politically beneficial to ‘promise’ it.

Subsequently, powerful media interests (is the ODT affilliated to the EPMU?), it certainly gets lots of public cash from Ardern and Little), and the usual lickspittle supporters of ‘equality and justice’ have fallen curiously silent about the plight of what Helen Clark loved to call “ordinary hard-working kiwis”:

Is it a cover-up? One might argue it is not. But if it were:

Stuff have put up three interesting opinion articles this morning. Alison Mau talked about the Arise Church and I unexpectedly found myself agreeing with her thoughts. She talked about the corporate model of Christianity now being used by some churches including Arise. I consider myself a Christian and it is getting harder to fit in with the Church. We have hard left politics coming from the pulpit at one extreme through to ‘show us your money’ corporate churches.

It was very obvious that nothing of consequence came out of the PM’s Asian trip. Can’t have Luxon filling the vacuum with anything positive.

  I was thinking yesterday that the media attacks are cranking up on Chris Luxon. It is apparent when we have multiple media attacks from TVNZ to print media carrying the same attack line then it isn’t a coincidence. The thrust is that Luxon is making gaffes and isn’t up to the job of leader. I just hope the public are now more aware of what is going on with this Government and some journalists.

Went to hear David Seymour the other night. Spoke for an hour, no notes, coherent, good content, logical, excellent humour, handled questions with ease, really on top of his job. He has come a long way and looks like a party leader who could successfully negotiate more than his fair share in a coalition.

My question is how many of his team could slot into a Cabinet role? He needs to give them more exposure and/or pull in some heavier weights before the next election.

      All sorts of ACT luminaries have stood in Auckland Central over the the years.
      The most successful was Donna Awatere Huata who picked up 7.05% of the vote in 1999 and came fourth.
      Brooke van Velden stood in 2017 and 151 voted for her.
      I would suggest that even though she has a slightly higher profile now she doesn’t have a show and if anyone is going to beat Swarbrick it’ll be National.

    If “co-governance” means Maori 50 percent / non-Maori 50 percent
    Then Maori, roughly 16.5 percent population share, would have to be multiplied 3 times to reach their 50 percent.
    Non-Maori, the other 83.5 percent would have to become 0.6 of a vote each to equal their 50 percent.
    Maori at 3 each compared to Others at 0.6 each gives Maori five times the voting power of non-Maori.

Except for one important area which is motivating the faithful and attracting voters from other parties – Ardern did a great job for her party last election (likely all becoming custard next one, we hope!!). It remains to be seen re Luxon. Is the increase in support for the Nats due to Luxon or because Ardern has been revealed as all hat and no cattle?

One of the terms used by Main stream media to label the unvaccinated is “refusenik”. I think they mean it in this sense, “ Over time, “refusenik” has entered colloquial English for a person who refuses to do something, especially by way of protest “ but the origins of the word I’ve learned a term used to denigrate Jewish Russians who were not allowed to emigrate to Israel and we’re persecuted. “ As a rule, Soviet dissidents and refuseniks were fired from their workplaces and denied employment according to their major specialty. Not that it worries me too much…..I still get a lot of people asking where I get my Balenciaga ones from.

But one thing that I still find revolting….is the number of Asian women you see in the Fruit & Vege section, who yank a plastic bag off the roller-holder, then proceed to lower their mask and lick their fingers in order to open it. Only to squeeze all the fruit with the same hand!

My only criticism would be that most of it is rough chip seal. Also in many places the surface is slightly undulating.

Someone once said “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”

One big lie running around the country currently is that “A Maori baby and a Pakeha baby born next door to each other and on the same day – the Pakeha child will outlive the Maori baby by seven years….”

I’ve seen Patrick Gower state it and latterly Janet Wilson in their columns.

Gower asks: “The question that David Seymour needs to answer is this: why if a Māori child is born, like in the house next door to me, do they live for seven years less than the child born in this [Pakeha] house?”

(Gower also then goes on to automatically leap to the conclusion that co-governance is the answer and the only answer – while providing absolutely no argument nor evidence whatsoever to support this.)

I cannot think of a more gross and misleading use of statistics in the country at present.

It is quite wrong to position things in this way and I believe Gower and Wilson are either ignorant of reality or deliberately misleading us – it has to be one of the two. I suspect the former and which is deeply troubling for two journalists of such prominence and long-standing.

I accept the fact that on average, and when comparing groups of people, Maori have a lower life expectancy than European New Zealanders and that Asian New Zealanders outlive us both.

However, if you drill down into Maori figures (and those of the other racial groups) you’ll find many, many Maori living well, well into old age and just as long as anyone else but also you’ll find some Maori living lives considerably shorter – thereby dragging the whole Maori average down.

If NZ is such a racist country as both Gower and Wilson claim, why is it that this racism affects only some Maori, in terms of life-expectancy, and not others? Why is it that with all this claimed racism, bias and discrimination many Maori live just as long as anyone else?

And here’s the real kicker – if NZ is so racist, discriminatory and white-supremacist – then why do Asians outlive us all?

What do Gower and Wilson and others put this down to? Asian-supremacy? Asian privilege?

Better and more illuminating questions would be “Why are some Maori experiencing lives that end in premature death compared to other Maori and other New Zealanders, on average?” and “Why are Asian New Zealanders outliving everyone else? What are they doing that others are not”

But I guess heading down that road takes the wind from the sails of co-governance doesn’t it? It completely destroys the argument that there is systemic discrimination on NZ keeping ALL Maori (and Pacific) down and whitey on top (but in fact Asians are).

This is easily the most disappointing element of this whole debate for me – the lack of honesty and evidence in our conversations. That, and us being rail-roaded into new policy directions and constitutional arrangements on rotten, flimsy arguments which fall over at the slightest nudge.

(I’d add on a personal note too that I’ve had Maori cousins who have lived well into their 90s. Never smoked, drank very little, worked all their lives, kept themselves trim, active and fit, maintained an excellent relationship with their GP etc over their lives and only really started slowing down in their 80s.)

Jack Tame is an aggressive, smart supercilious twat. He tried to belittle Luxon in that interview. He was smug, laughing and smiling through the interview showing his superior intellect. He apparently is not interested in any of his tax money being wasted on poor quality spending. If there was any doubt that Luxon has the left running scared that interview was it along with the endless tweeting by the left supporters to try and build a legend that Luxon is incompetent. Personally I think they are piddling into the wind and they know it. Luxon handled Tame pretty well all in all.
