  Yes it’s interesting to me that homosexuality is now seen as a positive good. You are a good person if you support homosexual causes. The gay pride logo marks you out as a virtuous person.
  Which is the complete opposite of our Christian understanding. Under Christianity the pagan beliefs about homosexuality were jettisoned and we instead went to the standard of one man and one woman in marriage for life. This provided us with a basis for strong and stable families and hence strong nations.
  
  Today the family is collapsing in many cases and has to be supported by massive social welfare payments and interventions.

    I think we have swung from a society that only acknowledged and approved of the traditional family of husband, wife and their children to acknowledging and approving everything but this form.
    
    Given the strong correlation that seems to exist between single (usually Mum) parenting and poverty, perhaps we should have a “two parent pride” month and celebrate parents who actually take responsibility for caring for their own children. Maybe if young men saw being a good father as a socially approved and celebrated role, it might become more popular?

      Not just approving everything but the traditional nuclear family; they are actively promoting homosexuality, the insanity that is the belief in trans-genderism, and all sorts of other aberrations.
      
      At the same time they are tearing down the traditional institutions of faith (unless it’s one particular ideology), family and marriage. As well as doing away with the need for personal responsibility or a good work ethic. Gummint shall provide all.
      
      If only there were many classic examples in our history that showed the inevitable outcome of nonsense such as this. Oh wait…

All of these have been subjected to a concerted attack, and all have been severely weakened as a consequence.
        
        To do this you would introduce subversive ideas such as secularism, hedonism, hyper-individualism, feminism, gay rights, radical egalitarianism, multiculturalism, and the like. All of these ideas have been introduced to Western society to bring about its demise, or where they weren’t introduced, they were promoted and actively encouraged.     After all Jesus, as quoted in Luke 14:26 said “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple”.

        The book of Luke was written by the same author as the book of Acts. It is believed to have been written before Acts as the latter follows on from it like a sequel. Acts chapter one writes about his “former book”. Acts is believed to have been written about 30 years after the death and resurrection of Christ with Luke preceding it.

      In this instance “hate” is taken to mean ‘love less’ : i.e .love Jesus less than you love your father.

    Hey Scott how about less of the “we” and “ our”. “ I” statements are nice. When Christianity was adopted as the official religion of the Roman Empire it’s my understanding that the decision was made at the top not from the bottom. Pre Christian Rome had family life and was a pretty robust entity that collapsed after its adoption of Christianity. I’m not suggesting that it was because of this adoption but merely pointing out that Christianity has nothing to do with strong nations you know like Japan or Israel or maybe China neither does it have anything to do with strong families which exist in all human societies and always has. Homosexuality didn’t disappear with that adoption either it merely became persecuted only to cease as the church lost its power. The promotion of the rainbow community and the corporate virtue signalling has nothing to do with individual homosexuals in the same way that the trans lobby doesn’t speak for individual trans people. The problem started when the state began to take on fatherhood and now motherhood as well. IMHO.

      Stella.. You need to refrsh your knowledge of history. Pre-Christiam Rome was in a state of moral collapse & political suicide – it was Christianity that took over the mantle , converted most of the belligerent barbarian tribes and established law, order & reason – Christendom held Europe – and the middle east until the muslim invasions – in a state of order and partial peace for a thousand years. It was the advance of what you seem to promote that has caused the collapse of order & morality in today’s world.

Pre Christian Rome covers it’s beginning it’s prime and most of its decline so what’s your point ? My point is that Christianity doesn’t make strong families or strong states it’s a ridiculous claim made by Christians . Rome ultimately fell apart when it was Christian.

  Hasn’t the pie already been divided? Players, provincial, and union, if provinces waste theirs, that’s their problem, players deserve their share, snd the union will not waste theirs. Silver Lake have to improve all black income, snd have hands in several stadia pies. I have stood at the door of Madison square garden, not sure how big it is in side, but just imagine if they are able to put a test on in there for big payers.       I realise that, as I said I have stood outside the place, it’s in doors, but I am not sure if it wouldn’t be adaptable, sliver lakes has a statue in Madison square garden, it’s for them to earn the all blacks more revenue, it is possible a fans could be set up (test match) with a small crowd of high paying spectators

I received an e-mail from Christopher Luxon last night; a very welcome, clear and unambiguous email. It read thus:

Labour has confirmed the worst fears of local communities by tabling a bill to ram through its Three Waters agenda.

We need your help to stop it.

Local government is in open revolt, and the public overwhelmingly opposes this blatant asset grab. Yet Labour is determined to impose its ideology 0against the wishes of communities.

The Water Services Entities Bill (Three Waters) tabled in Parliament today, lays out the final plans for the establishment of a complex and unaccountable bureaucracy.

The Ardern-led Labour Government has consistently ignored alternative proposals such as establishing council controlled organisations or contracting services, doggedly pursuing its four mega-entities model.
Under this model your local community will lose its voice and cross subsidise neighbouring communities, all while getting worse outcomes.

This is classic Labour, deciding it knows what’s best for you and your community and centralising decision-making all at your expense.

National has consistently opposed Labour’s Three Waters reforms. Make no mistake, if we are elected in 2023 we will repeal and replace this broken model.

It seems that Nanaia Mahuta has won the battle, and Three Waters will proceed, despite widespread opposition from councils and the public.

Just yesterday it was announced that three councils, Timaru, Waimakariri and Whangarei, are off to the High Court for a declaration on ownership rights and interests. It will be a fascinating case, but even an adverse finding is not likely to stop Mahuta.

Three Waters is shaping up as a major election issue for next year. It’s good to know whose side the National Party is on.

        There is a real problem with water in NZ that indisputably needs to be fixed , e.g. frequent burst pipes and sewage in waterways.
        
        The fact that Mahuta is using the problem to pursue another, entirely different and objectionable agenda is a separate matter.

    Underneath this 3 waters nonsense is a real problem. Our infrastructure in many cities is in a mess, old, broken, badly managed. In this day and age allowing sewerage on to your beaches should be preventable but it happens with any sort of heavy rain in Auckland.
    
    Not sure what the whole answer is but local Govt is generally in an awful state. Privatise more services would help.

      Take councils back to their original remit and mission statements.
      Basically identify what each and every council is dealing with ie Age of existing infrastructure, Suitability including extra redevelopment utilising same Drains, pipelines etc.
      
      Instead of councils paying for Micky Mouse Sea level rise reports and allowing consents on existing swamps, How about start getting more “resourceful” people on board the councils.
      
      Engineering types would be a good start.
      
      Have a independant review of each council in meeting there Mandates and infrastructure instead of smokey mirrors reporting.
      
      Basicaly get people who know how to get things done and wrap around resources around them.
      
      Allocate resources from Central Government on well run Councils. Basically get rid of the Dead Wood.

        Furthermore.

      I hate to say this but, perhaps there should be a legal requirement for councils to spend x% of rates on maintenance of existing water / sewerage / footpath infrastructure. If set correctly this might stop the issue of councils taking the money and spending it on sculptures etc and keep infrastructure at its current level. Setting the % say 1% higher than required might allow them to play catch up on neglected maintenance.
      
      If councils won’t do there job they should be forced to.

        How about central government funds 30% of council budget and rates are reduced accordingly. Release of a 0% to 100% proportion of that funding could be made contingent on a normative assessment of the council delivering core services in the year(s) prior. Want some cash for vanity projects? Sure. But do the core stuff first. And for me ‘core stuff’ includes debt restraint and/or reduction, keeping rates increases to ~CPI, roading, water etc.

        An even better suggestion is that councils take responsibility for the assets they oversee. Here in the Far North our 3 waters are contracted out. This is an open book contract where the contractor is paid a management fee and a percentage on the actual costs. Nothing is repaired properly, upgraded or replaced as it is all about for the contractor to generate as much work to up the return on the over and above. Councils should not be paying profits to contractors for core services.

        Well, at the moment councils are required to fund depreciation. That means that they collect cash in rates each year equivalent to a known proportion of the value of their assets (plant, buildings, vehicles, infrastructure). I understand that the value used in this calculation is replacement value which means that it goes up each year.
        The kicker is that there is nothing to stop them from spending all that lovely homeless cash on feel good stuff which means that when there’s a need to replace a sewer main, or do some serious roadworks, they have to borrow the cash.
        The Council then has two loans. One from its own deprivation fund which has to be ultimately replaced and the other to an outside lender. You also have a Mayor and bunch of complicit Councillors who are hoping like hell that by the time the manure hits the propeller they will be long gone. The architects of this great rort on the ratepayers being the CEO and CFO who incidentally, will not have explained the finer detail to the largely ignorant elected Councillors, will get either a golden handshake or bonus and will find another larger council to push into a state of practical insolvency in the full knowledge that lenders don’t give a fat rats backside about the financial state of Councils as long as the ratepayers can be made to pay by law which makes them and their families the ultimate backstop for repayment and ever increasing interest.
        Same applies to Government borrowing where taxpayers are ultimately liable payment of interest and capital of borrowings. Government borrowing interest rates are lower than commercial rates for that simple reason – the risk is close to zero for a lender.

    The Labour Party knows that for most of its voters, three waters is not much of an issue.
    So long as water comes out of the tap and goes down a plug hole – who cares where it came from or where it goes after use?
    That is the reality.
    And the Greens will be happy that they are being seen to be doing something about all the dirty polluters of “our water” in the provinces, and making up a few more avenues of regulations and taxes – perhaps not applying to Maori owned land though.

  It is a ‘clever’ mechanism for Iwi control of the water infrastructure in New Zealand.
  Unelected Iwi/Maori will have 50% of management control.
  The Taxpayers Union are to be commended for their campaign to inform New Zealanders about this underhand grab of public assets.

    Actually… Maori will have complete control. If you look at the requirements for the non-Maori half of the controlling body, you will see that appointees need an understanding and agreement with (I forget the exact words) Maori worldview.
    
    Only Maori can charge fees – royalties – and they will dominate the controlling body completely.
    
    Even if I live off-grid, I can guarantee there will be a fee for using ‘Maori owned water” at some stage in my future.

      Under the Three Waters deal Ngai Tahu will have control over the whole of the South Island which will includes all rainfall, lakes,rivers and the electric power that they generate, most of which goes into the North Island grid.
      Should we be afraid – no way 52% voted for it – so they did not know – so what.

  Tony, we have to ask if we still live in a democracy? With such rank autocracy in NZ politics today, the future prosperity of NZ is doomed (who will want to live and do business in a nation where privilege is afforded to one ethnicity over all others?).
  
  Paradoxically we’re relentlessly instructed (typically by globalists) that diversity is our strength! If so, why doesn’t NZ embrace all ethnicities of its Kiwi citizens in accepting multiculturalism?

    Dim – my reference to Mahuta winning was in terms of getting the legislation introduced. I gather there has been pressure within Labour to have a breather on Three Waters. But Mahuta and the Maori caucus will push on with Three Waters, despite the widespread opposition.
    
    My understanding is that a lot of the angst is coming from Labour’s back bench, who on Monday night’s Kantar poll would have lost 18 of their number. However Mahuta’s determination to carry only regardless might see that number significantly increased!

    DG, I got called that in a managers meeting once (I was 41!). Said our leadership group needed more diversity.
    
    Stood up, asked the general manager why someone with a different skin colour would do a better job than me and I would be more interested in someone’s knowledge, ideas and attitude. Faced with a vacant stare, I then asked if he would have dared say the opposite to a group of people who were dark, fresh and female? Walked out and took a role with a different company.
    
    The final irony? To replace me, the final 2 applicants were a 50 year old white English guy (typical negative pom) and a young half Maori guy (more than qualified and experienced for the role and full of energy too). Yep, they took the white guy.

  The exact same phenomenon is happening regarding identifying as Maori. In 50 years or so – since Winston Peters explained away his dusky hue by claiming to be Italian, and thus getting the nickname Luigi at law school – we now have a vast number of the population identifying as Maori, even if they have blonde hair and blue eyes, and only have a trace – if that – of Maori blood.

You get easier entrance into education, better health care (free flu jabs, faster access to the COVID vax etc), potentially able to retire earlier, more influence on local authority boards and no one can challange you on anything otherwise they are a racist.

  Yup it’s the oldest trick in the book: do everything you can to avoid doing your real job and serving the people that pay your salary.
  
  When I tried to get permission to install a solar hot water panel I submitted all the plans etc. On the last day of their time to respond, they sent back a letter saying that I needed to show where all the smoke alarms in the house were. Where the smoke alarms are has SFA to do with a solar water panel.
  
  I dutifully sent another plan. On the last day, they sent back a request for some engineering report on the strength of a beam. Since the water heater was adding about 40kg to a concrete tile roof weighing 12 tons (+ approx 3 tons snow during winter) this was pretty childish of them. (Later that beam survived the Darfield EQ fine when there was well over a ton of snow on the roof).
  
  Got a report, sent that in and by the time they came back again the owner of the solar hot water company had had a heart attack and closed down his business. I just gave up at that stage.

This is not what local body elections are about.
No individual on a council can change anything,
The CEO and management structure, overseen by central government, direct the councillors.

Councillors rely on the Chief Executive to ensure they are carried out. There are however many discretionary things which Councils can do or decide not to do. Councillors make decisions on these.

  Apparently the insurance excess runs to several thousand dollars, never mind the disruption.
  I don’t blame any shop that wants to erect some sort of obstacle to protect their frontage. A few bollards look a damn sight better than roller shutter doors or some sort of concertina bars. I doubt if there’s any requirement to consult the community, particularly in a third world ghetto like Remurewa.

Watched the pageantry from London last night. A very decent sized crowd from all over, and not a mask in sight. I think it is no longer compulsory there, but I would have thought some might have elected to mask up anyway (I wouldn’t!)
I will be interested to see if there is a big covid spike there quite soon. If there’s not isn’t there a case for us to give away the mandatory masking too?

It’s going to take them 10 years to build. Thankfully, by then, the competent (or should I say less incompetent) team should be in power so it might almost stay on schedule (and within 150% of budget).

These last few days I have struggled to think of taxpayer-funded activities less worthy of such support than Samoan Language Week and the myriad initiatives “to keep Gagana Samoa alive in NZ” although I can think of a few equally unworthy.

If NZ-based Samoans want to pass on their language and keep it well spoken here then they can fill their boots. Go for their lives.

Quite what this has to do with the taxpayer though escapes me. My best mate at primary school is Chinese, every Saturday morning he would be taken into Wellington by his folks to spend three hours at the Chinese Association building to learn written and oral Cantonese (in addition to it being spoken at home) and he became highly proficient. No taxpayer involvement whatsoever. The parents paid a bit to the Association for organising it.

If Samoan families value this so much then why can’t they get off their backsides and organise it themselves? Quite why the rest of NZ families must fork out to provide these services to them is a mystery.

Equally if, as William Sio and others claim, doing so is vital to the wellbeing of the Samoan Community, then why isn’t the Labour government doing it for every non-English speaking nationality resident here?

What about Scottish Gaelic? Tagalog? Japanese? Portugese? Russian? Why aren’t these promoted and funded to the same extent? Not enough votes perhaps?

If it is so essential for Samoans won’t that mean that it is essential for everyone? Or are the Samoans somehow special?

Or, is the real reason that this taxpayer money is made available is that for purely political reasons it allows William Sio and others to have something to point to and brag about to Samoan voters in return for their continued political support?

In other words, it’s a bribe?

  Yup, I’m all for alternative cultural enrichment, but not at the expense of the taxpayer, school time etc.
  
  Samoan cultural activities should rank alongside other cultural activities such as Morris dancing, St Paddy’s day benders etc.

Thinking to myself…. it must be at least 2 or 3 years now since we’ve seen a Police Car parked outside Bakers Delight on Remuera Rd while the boys enjoyed a mid-morning donut.

Sigh. Well known disinformation producer, TVNZ, tells us that 35% of people apparently want the dairy herd reduced to fight climate change.
If true, it seems that constantly feeding people nonsense like methane from cows is harming the climate actually has an effect.
It’s going to take quite a bit of work to undo the damage the alarmists are causing.
