  By 1944 the US had 100 carriers in the pacific.
  
  Mainly Woolworth carriers, a merchant hull with a flat top. The new Fleet carriers were still being built, the Essex and Midway classes.

      It’s a fair bet that there are many self-righteous New Zealanders who would unironically identify themselves as a would-be “tank man” – if ever they were placed in a similar political position, unlikely though such a position would be – while at the same time tweeting about the “selfish unvaxxed,” the “rivers of filth” on the grounds of Parliament and the “threat to democracy” they and others like them represent. All while remaining clueless, safe in the knowledge that, after all, that was in China in 1989, and this is New Zealand in 2022.

  In fact the non-PC quality of the movie slaps you in the face right from the start when it does a pre-credits opening in Tokyo with a British Admiral, annoyed at the “bloody ridiculous” Japanese custom of catching ducks with nets, telling his American counterpart, Intelligence Officer Edwin T. Layton, that he won’t miss Japan and that “The next time I see the little buggers I hope it’ll be over the sights of a 14 inch gun”.

  Have you read the original paper published in the NEJM?
  
  If so, did you miss this bit … “one recent study showed that messenger RNA (mRNA)–based vaccines confer a level of protection against hospitalization that is five times as high as that provided by previous infection.”?
  
  It appears this Israeli research shows that vaccines are more effective at stopping serious cases, but that the immunity provided by a vaccine wanes faster than that from an infection. I don’t find that at all surprising. The dose of “Covid” in a vaccine is way way smaller than you receive in an infection, so the kick your immune system receives is a lot less. Intentionally. That’s how vaccines are designed to work.
  
  I’d also point out that this Israeli study doesn’t normalise for age. So they must be assuming that the demographics of the 3 groups they considered are consistent. But the immune system weakens fast in people older than 60, and with vaccination programmes prioritising and targeting the elderly I think that’s a big call, and a flaw in the study.

      The problem is with our immune systems. Our immune systems are unable to hold a long-term response to coronaviruses … which is why we all keep getting the common cold over and over again.
      
      You need to remember that we don’t really have *any* vaccines that confer permanent life-long immunity. All of their protections wane over time – our immune systems “forget” the lesson the vaccine gave them. With some viruses, say measles, the immune system remembers the lesson quite well and the protection wanes slowly. Other viruses, like coronaviruses, the immune system forgets the lesson quite quickly.
      
      And if you can figure out why that is you’d likely get a Nobel Prize in Medicine.

    Spin it any way you like, the non sterilising “vaccines” do not do what they were supposed to do, they certainly don’t do what Ardern and co still claim they do, the evidence is piling up now that the more vaccinated you are the more chance of getting covid. Natural immunity is stronger and longer lasting than that given by the jab. The jab appears to give some short term protection at the expense of damaging the innate immune system.
    
    What part of all this worrying information would make you even attempt to defend this product and the people who inflicted it on us?

    The data demonstrates that, at an absolute maximum, vaccines only lessen symptoms, and do not at all prevent infection. Even this is a tenuous claim: whether one has lesser/greater symptoms would seem to be a subjective determination, in the same way that the “symptoms” of drinking a bottle of wine will differ between each person who consumes a standardised dose. Just as, in this analogy, each person drinks a qualitatively identical bottle, so too do infected people have a qualitatively identical viral infection. Yet in both scenarios, subjectively-experienced symptoms will vary from one person to another. The fact of infection is objective, while the nature of symptoms is subjective. Thus, “lessened symptoms” is not a scientific proposition, because it depends on the reports of a subject.
    
    Moreover, it would also seem to be an untestable proposition to claim that “person x had lesser symptoms because they were vaccinated” (i.e. lesser than if they were unvaccinated) because the control needed to provide the relevant comparison of person x’s symptoms pre-vaccination versus post vaccination would require a counterfactual wherein the same individual (person x) was infected whilst unvaccinated. The serial nature of events in time, and time’s intrinsic irreversibility, prevents any such comparison.
    
    However, at bottom, the data is actually fairly irrelevant: it is a breach of fundamental human rights to coerce a medical procedure, and a breach of civil rights to be punished for your choice, especially given the fact that one’s vaccination status is only relevant to oneself, despite the slogans that it is relevant to others. The vaccines could be 100% effective and have zero side effects, but the fundamental rights implications would remain.

    Surfing, as usual you didn’t pay attention. The point is these “vaccines” not only do not stop anyone catching or spreading the virus, they make it worse. They don’t work. They were never going to work. A very large percentage of the population of NZ have been conned and/or coerced into taking part in probably the biggest medical scandal and fraud in history. We were lied to by our “experts” and politicians.
    As a result they have destroyed the economy, severly damaged the wellbeing and mental health of many, particularly a generation of kids, they have shredded the social fabric and they have done so for NO gain. As time passes it looks increasingly certain that longer term it is causing huge damage.

    More and more data is showing increases in all cause mortality everywhere that is highly “vaccinated”. We know “correlation is not causation” but the numbers are there and they don’t lie.
    You use whichever confirmation bias you need to tell yourself that you made the right choice, that the “vaccines” work and that Ardern is a good leader. Nothing you say or do will make any of those statements true.

  The problem we now face is that politicians have all spent so much political capital selling “the vaccines will save us” message when the reality is the vaccines are now the problem as they screw up natural immune function & masks do nothing as we knew all along, that they are prepared to destroy the country rather than admit they were wrong.

    You are wrong again Mike. I was at Parliament when the first of the convoy was arriving and for several hours after that. The only thing even close to the Mongrel Mob that I saw was two large chaps on noisy motorcycles, with not a patch to be seen. At that time the message was quite clear, opposition to and bad personal experiences from the vaccine mandates, via Government coercion. Had you listened to the speakers over the first few hours and mingled with the crowd you would have heard that for yourself. That was the time that some politicians could have shown some respect for the protestors – it was the continued disdain and refusal to listen to the reasons for the demonstration that led, in some measure at least, to others joining the protest who had different complaints and lower levels of tolerance for the arrogance of the politicians.

    Pollsters don’t measure the depth of support, they measure the level of support.
    From what I know from friends, etc the PM was moderately tolerated a while ago, but now many are highly antagonistic toward her and Labour. It is depth of dislike that has changed. Of course the level of support has also fallen with Labour going from over 50% support to somewhere in the 30s.
    So you can assume the polls are reasonably accurate, but those who want a change now feel more strongly about that than they did 12 months ago.

I see over at the BFD that the Maori Party want a `Maori’ Bank where there will be no security requiredfor people of Maori Descent wanting to borrow.

In my banking days many years ago (I left the industry in 1982) I worked in an East Coast Branch under a Manager whose mantra for any lending to anyone of any race or creed was:

GET THE SECURITY FIRST.

And a severe ear chwewing eventuated if you didn’t.

Maori Land was the most difficult to take security over because the many owners of even an acre of land were spread far and wide and if only one refused to sign – the project was buggered.

  Dept of Maori Affairs used to lend to Maori pdm. And having reviewed many of the loans before Affairs went to “Iwi Transition Agencies”, there weren’t too many that were being repaid. Some dated back to the 60’s and had interest rates less than 1% (closer to 0 than 1). Many from that decade had only made the first couple of payments, then stopped! And if you had pretty much any Maori in you, you could get a loan. Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, the lot, and very cheap rates. It was a fucking debacle. We were told to let it go. None of the debt was being chased then, and I doubt any of the debt was chased later.

        Socialism is not “anything I don’t like”. Neither is communism.
        
        Socialism = state ownership of the means of production. Private ownership of anything larger than a car doesn’t really exist. All large businesses and resources are held by the government. The state nationalises all enterprises, and directs the economy as the major owner of all businesses and resources. Everyone works for the government.
        
        Socialism != taxes, a welfare state, Government participation in the economy, even via Government ownership of some businesses. If the government does something large on behalf of the whole society (like our public health system for example) that isn’t socialism.
        
        As for communism … if you’ve read your Marx and Engels, particularly The Communist Manifesto, then you would know that communism is the theoretical thing that replaces socialism. No one really knows what that looks like because it’s never existed. But it is also not “anything you don’t like”. Nor is it “anything to the left of Attila the Hun”.

Inventions:

This was the beginning of “the Liberal movement.” Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as ‘girlymen’. Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the trade union, class action lawsuits, the invention of group therapy &group hugs and the concept of democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

I went to my monthly dinner meeting with a bunch of ladies – around 100 of us. The woman sitting opposite me announced that she no longer goes anywhere without wearing a mask. Far too dangerous she says. I asked her if she intends on wearing for the rest of her days and she said she would. I then asked her if she considered the virus so deadly, then why did she not consider attending a dinner meeting with us not a threat? She replied ‘Oh, I know everyone here so I’m safe’. Honestly. Ardern’s done a good job on scaring the bejeezus out of her.

One of the Interns from work was telling us he’s heard rumors the government intends setting up a new ‘Drug Buying Agency- specifically for Maori.

To be headed by Gannin Omrsby, it will be known as…. ‘Pharmahuta’

When approached for comment, Gannin referred all enquires to…. The-Minister-for-Children, Kelvin Davis.

Would it be fair to say that many in the MSM have been critical of Minister Mahuta, regarding her role as Foreign Minister and her “absence” from the Pacific whilst both Chinese Foreign Minister Wang and new Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has been touring?

Would it be fair to say that many in the MSM have NOT been critical of Minister Mahuta, regarding her central government role in leading the 3 Waters reforms and its proposed governing arrangements?

Would it be fair to say then that the Labour Government’s criteria for the Public Interest Journalism fund to include and agree to acceptance of (the newly invented) Te Tiriti co-governance/partnership aspects ARE actually compromising journalistic integrity (despite the push-back from Labour, NZ on Air and Stuffed senior management)?

  I used to be appalled that the government had bought the media and that the media was peddling propaganda for the Labour/Maori government. Now I think we have got off rather lightly, having watched the production team (Elenski’s production team) creating videos to show how the Russians are committing war crimes in Ukraine. Just imagine if Ardern had been on Shortland Street and had brought into her cabinet the producer and the cameramen to give us a daily update on her loveliness. We don’t know how lucky we are.

How to go slowly mad!
I thought dealing with Ministry of Social development was insanity in action.

Nope
Singapore Airlines Customer service surpases MSD.

Had a flight booked from Auckland to Singapore on 2nd May.
The airline cancelled it with an email Mid February and advised someone would contact me.
Since then I have sent emails. Filled out online forms (8th April) requesting a mid July date.
They acknowledge that form.
Spent literally hours on hold trying to speak to someone in my local office(Auckland) as instructed on the website.

Even tracked down the singapore airlines facebook page and sent them the details. They said. We can see your request. Just wait. That was on 15th May

Finally the auckland office auto switches to the Contact Centre in Singapore.

They happily booked it but want to charge me $2000!!

That booking will be cancelled in 5 days if I dont pay.

I explain to the girl that it is to replace the cancelled flight….Um too hard..

Suggest I email the Contact centre. Which I do. giving every minute detail.

Auto response..We will get back to you within 15 working days!!!

I remember the first time us girls went to Fiji with our parents was in the early 80’s.
Stayed at the ‘Regent Denarau’ and had the time of our lives.
The Fijians are such wonderful fab people.
We went in to Nadi for the ‘duty free’ shopping, but even then dad was wary about dealing with the Indian shopkeepers. Used to say to us, “be careful, they’d sell their own grandmother for a buck” …and other stuff like that 🙁
