Yes Minister has just started again on Sundays on Jones or Jones too. the episode last night was Open Government. It must be returning as a reminder to Labour as to how to be the most open and transparent government we have ever had. It is still a classic and sadly so much of the episode rang so true with the antics of today’s Govt.

… Morgan, who was part of the Three Waters independent working group and closely involved in the co-governance-run Waikato River Authority, said there was a misapprehension in mainstream Aotearoa society about the benefits of co-governance.

… Morgan said the iwi was faced with “a whole bunch of changes”, such as the Three Waters reforms, where thought was needed on maximising opportunity. Resource Management Act and health reforms and Māori wards were other examples of changes being faced.
“All of that demands some degree of agility and greater responsiveness from the iwi.
“These are generational changes…are we satisfied that we’re in the right place?”
“… western democracy really amounts to the tyranny of the majority. So how then are we supposed to participate in a real, meaningful and significant way?”

While the Treaty is acclaimed as a “living document”, the fact is the context has changed – the ratio of Maori to non-Maori in 1840 has reversed in a way probably not anticipated back then to become what Tuku Morgan and Willie Jackson refer to as “tyranny of the majority“.
Is one way to thwart this “tyranny” to place your people in key decision making positions?

  If only we had a PM with the fortitude to tell this racist cabal aka the Maori Caucus to pull their heads in and cease all efforts to divide NZ along racial lines as it’s not going to happen under her Govt and if they persist, she will call an election on the issue and as far as she’s concerned, the cabal can fend for itself.

    Charles came out with ‘mummy’ years ago in some light hearted speech and it struck a chord so he brings it out occasionally to prove they’re more affectionate than everyone thinks.
    I watched a rerun of the concert last night. Charles looked utterly dejected. Personally I don’t blame him. There were a couple of good bits, but I thought it was all a bit ‘try hard’, like a pride parade organised by straight people, or vice versa.

  One thing that stood out very starkly when perusing the crowds was the near total absence of the many “New British,” of any generation, first or several. Surely respecting and acknowledging the bedrock institutions of the nation that you found so appealing in the first place isn’t too much to ask. Maybe they have no such respect? I suppose that absence indicates that it takes much more than simply being on the land, and/or drawing state benefits and receiving free NHS care and/or a trip across the channel in a dinghy to make one “British.”

      Why would the Maori caucus want a snap election? These MPs must be aware a Labour / Green / MP is by no means a done deal next year and better the absolute majority bird right there in the hand.
      
      Maybe they see a tired PM losing the love out there in voter land, and figure making a big fuss might encourage the PM to resign to make room for the first Maori PM. Plus of course that absolute majority until late 2023.

I wonder whether Jacinda Ardern has finally realized that giving Trevor Mallard our Speaker of Parliament a Title in the Queens Birthday or Xmas Honours List could be fatal to her Government’s chances of re-election in 2023 has made her think of the consequences and stopped her preceeding until a later date.
There are those that are worthy and those that are not so let’s keep reminding her of how toxic Mallard is to New Zealand.

Although it does not exactly say where the incident occurred, I can safely assume the actions by Chinese are in direct contravention too air space.
This poses the very same issues which I posted the other day regarding Chinese using Fishing vessels as a Red Flag incident closer to home.
How will NZ respond? As it mostly falls under NZ Search and Rescue region.
And what can we respond with ?
It is a “not if “scenario but more like a “When it will happen”.
Do you have Faith in NZ proper response or will they stop due to the Taniwha //

  There seems to be a lack of, or muted, response by the Greenpeace, etc. crowd to the Chinese diplomatic expansion of the Pacific.
  Although I don’t have a crystal ball, it is difficult not to foresee a serious expansion of fishing pressure from Chinese sources.
  This pressure will far exceed any possible danger from the NZ fishing quota system, about which they are frequently extremely vocal.

  “The unarmed RAAF P-8A Poseidon aircraft was carrying out routine maritime surveillance when it was intercepted by a Chinese J-16 fighter aircraft in a “dangerous manoeuvre”.
  
  The J-16 cut in front of the P8 and released metal chaff, some of which was ingested by the P8’s engine. I hope that some video shows up to prove this.
  
  This seems like a very dangerous and antagonistic maneuver. Perhaps future P8’s should have a bit of self protective power. Downing a single J-16 would likely put a stop to this type of behavior.

So the government and the left propose, implement or try to implement divisive policy’s that change governance structures in New Zealand and because they didn’t campaign on those policies, create a huge amount of adverse comment and I’ll feeling. Mainly because of the nature of what they propose and how they propose to bulldoze them through. This then creates a situation where the majority of the public become annoyed and suspicious of those policies and the benefactors of them. Voila – the majority are now racist and white right wingers and must be monitored. They must be disenfranchised even more because of their attitudes. So they set up a disinformation centre run by at least one online bully that will identify said self created division. The self licking ice cream is up and running. What could possibly go wrong.

With regard to last night’s post about offending China and possible non-tariff sanctions, isn’t it ironic that if China was to apply sanctions in the e form of actual tariffs we would be in the same trade position as we have with our supposed ally the USA.
America’s trade policy and protectionism is a major flaw in it’s foreign policy, if they want to engage in unfair trade with their traditional allies that creates a conflict of interests whereby a country like New Zealand is closely bound to China for economic prosperity and cannot afford to support America against its largest rival.
New Zealand risks becoming China’s Cassel because of economic imperatives.

Novax isn’t my favourite, I haven’t followed tennis since the Bjorg, McEnroe era. I believe if Novax had been allowed to play in Australia they would be on 21 each.

It’s an old political tactic to sneak out an announcement about something controversial on a Friday afternoon, especially the Friday of a holiday weekend. This time, it was an announcement from the PM about the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for the investigation of violent extremism in New Zealand.

This project will be fronted by two left-wing academics, Paul Spoonley, familiar to many for his frequent TV experiences, and Prof Joanna Kidman, whose Victoria University bio describes herself thus:

I don’t often agree with Bomber Bradbury, but he has written an excellent post about Professor Kidman, including the Twitter pile-on she led against Dame Trelise Cooper last year. Bomber argues that Prof Kidman is the worst person to be leading this body, and it’s hard to argue with his conclusion:

Kidman wanted Cooper cancelled for a dress, that’s her threshold for hate and extremism, a dress maker who had no idea of an indigenous atrocity.

That’s the person in charge of an Academy on Extremism? Someone who is triggered by a dress and who used their platform to start a woke Lynch mob?

Now the good Professor Joanne Kidman may scream in rage that I’ve reminded everyone what her brittle thresholds for hate crimes are just as she gets her large dollop of creamy public money to investigate extremism, but I would calmly retort that Professor Joanne Kidman is getting the exact same zero benefit of the doubt that she as a woke crusader gave Trelise Cooper.

If the good Professor Joanne Kidman doesn’t like the taste of her own medicine, perhaps that’s a teachable moment?

Anything coming out of this extremism research centre must be challenged.

I see a lot of extreme violence perpetrated by predominantly Maori gangs, but I guess that won’t come under her purview, given her affiliations (whatever that means) to Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Raukawa. Better to invent a problem and deal with that, rather than dealing with an actual problem lest doing so undermines attempts to obfuscate what the real social problems are in New Zealand.

I was looking at the list of Queen’s Birthday Honours to see who I knew and I noticed they’re called Knights, Members or whatever of the NZ Order of Merit.
I’d never paid any attention to the label for a long time, but I do remember they used to be OBE & MBE etc. where E stood for Empire.
In the UK they still are.
Do they still have an empire?
When I was a kid we sent a team to the Empire Games.
My father and my uncle went off to fight for the Empire in Europe in WWII.
Dad returned six years later.
His brother was killed 78yrs ago to the day when his Halifax was shot down near Laon in northern France.
He’d only arrived in the UK from training in Canada six months earlier & was based away up in Scotland. A fair bit of the flying was training before a big attack over several days on some military base near Laon.
A lot of planes were lost.

  I’m a adult male human i.e. a man. And always was male and always will be male.
  
  Can I take six weeks off to “affirm” my gender? Not sure what that would mean but if it’s socially I can go around the city to get people to say “yes, you are a man”. I assume the leave is once in a lifetime but should applied equally to everyone regardless of the gender or that would be discrimination.

Why at the Queens platinum celebrations did Diana Ross close the concert?

Shes not British, couldn’t they have found a Brit performer to do that?

Also it was a bit strange Rod Stewart doing a cover of Neil Diamonds “Sweet Caroline” when he has had lots of hit songs himself to perform.

An interesting article about Joe Cahill, former Premier of NSW. He was responsible for getting the ball rolling on the construction of the Sydney Opera House against all sorts of opposition.
“The opera house is really a tangible expression of Joe Cahill’s conviction that ordinary people have a God-given right to a fair share of the good things of life. He said this in his maiden speech in parliament in 1925 and it became his article of faith throughout his life.”
So build that stadium Chch and anyone can watch stuff in comfort, not freezing in that shitty ‘temporary’ stadium.

At the last minute my partner decided we’d go somewhere for lunch.
Even though I didn’t feel like it there was no option.
Headed out to St Heliers and spent $224 which included a glass of wine each. On the way home, he filled the car in Newmarket….another $206.05.
So that’s $430 more-or-less in the space of three hours.

Honestly, I don’t know how some people must live.
At least we’re only getting Burger King for dinner.

He was saying a customer who had been in earlier was telling him….. “Robbo had printed more money in the last 2 years than the Country had in the previous 100 years combined!”

Had dessert anyway….but it’s enuff to put most people off.
