Judging by statistics In every area, Education, Health, Welfare, the pakeha ethos should be celebrated across the ‘motu’.

    Well, no. ‘Whanau’ means extended family – ie aunts, uncles, foster uncles, friends of family, associates, etc etc. Anyone can be whanau.
    The benefit of the pakeha methos is that family generally means parents, siblings, grandparents – but not necessarily mates or ‘extended family’.
    The point is, the parents control the messaging, and take responsibility. It seems to work more often than other ways.

Boris Johnson survives the vote of no confidence but he reveals the bitter disgust the general public feels with politicians. Politicians who lock everyone else down but don’t observe the rules themselves. While the Queen was sitting alone, social distancing, at the funeral of her husband, Boris was partying with his staff. That upsets me and I’m not even British!

Here’s my point. The politicians and the experts didn’t follow their own covid rules because they didn’t believe in them.
From our Minister of health,to Siouxse Wiles to Gavin Newsom in California, politicians around the world locked everyone down while acting freely themselves.

This leads me to the conclusion that Covid was never the end of the world! Our government’s response was always an overreaction. We know this because they never followed the rules themselves. They knew covid was not the threat they led us to believe.

Did we all lock down for nothing?

  Politicians put hard lockdown rules in because the polls/people demanded they do it. The vast majority of people were terrified and wanted the state to save them. If the polls had said something different, they’d have done something different, they are politicians first and foremost afterall.

    The people demanded a lockdown because the media and politicians created fear using disinformation. We were told covid was a terrible new virus of the magnitude we’d never seen before and people were falling over in the streets dead and being taken away by men in hazmat suits, spraying the streets with disinfectant, people being put on ventilators and dying. In reality it was a virus similar to any other respiratory virus and not particularly deadly. We were told they were “covid deaths” for over a year before we were told they were actually deaths within 28 days of a positive test and not necessarily related to covid. People wanted a lockdown in response to the medias very deliberate campaign.

    The polls only did that due to a deliberate and coordinated propaganda campaign, paid for with taxpayer money. A cynical use of applied psychology and “sustained propaganda” as admitted by Brenda on live television.
    
    This is her job on behalf of the WEF. This is why she was recruited for the Young Global Leader programme. She had organised and implemented the demolition of our current democratic system. Destruction of our economy. Fracturing of our society and family units. All groundwork for the “Great Reset” we now know is a reality, no longer a conspiracy.

If not and they willingly went along with Ardern’s lies they do not deserve to form our next government. Their job is to oppose excesses and expose failures of the present government; not to keep their powder dry!
        
        I challenged Seymour about his enthusiastic support for vaccine passports for international travel and his response was to equate it with having vaccine certificates for yellow fever to travel to countries where it is endemic – a comparison of a disease with 30% mortality with one with that of a fraction of a percent.

Their disgusting attitude towards reasonable and justifiable Covid scepticism has cost them my vote, and I’m certain that many others feel the same.       Even shutting the borders was unnecessary. The accumulated Covid infection and mortality data confirm that it is little more than an minor inconvenience for 99% of people, but it was used as a bogeyman to provide a pretext for what would otherwise have been an impossible reconfiguration of society.
      
      The process is clear. A particular policy outcome is desired. The outcome must be framed as the solution to a pressing problem. Thus:
      
      1) invent the problem;
      2) create the desired conditions for acceptance of the desired “solution” to the invented problem;
      3) offer the solution to the problem you have created;
      4) watch people gratefully accept the salvation thus offered.
      
      Cynical, but very effective if you understand mass psychology.
      
      It is textbook marketing, wherein reason is subordinated to emotion: any non-essential product or service is sold as a solution to the consumer’s problems. The idea is to make the consumer believe they have a problem. Whether they do or not, as a matter of fact, is irrelevant. All that matters is that they buy what you are selling.

    You have inverted reality. If we lived in a democracy, then public opinion would guide public policy. But we don’t live in a democracy though, just a frayed illusion of democracy. We live in a system of global oligarchy, were the politicians are just public faces for the oligarchs.
    
    The polls show what the public believe. The public believes what they see in the media. The government and/or large multinational corporates control the media, and thus the media’s message. This is why the calls for censorship are so loud, because the system relies on a near monopoly of information. There is the mere appearance of popular sovereignty, but it doesn’t exist in all but the most trivial of matter. Most people have no agency and are directed to believe what is expedient for them to believe and to have them act accordingly.

    not much to do with polls or the people – this one was decided and tightly controlled and copy-catted by what China was doing and going for zero deaths strategy compounded by the likes of a group of germaphobes/scientists that got on a govt committee and enforced this way of thinking.     The lockdown was put in place because China did it. Lockdowns are counterproductive, as has been shown over the last 2 years. It was a failed strategy as clearly evidenced by one simple fact – in the NZ Pandemic Strategy there is not one mention of lockdowns or anything similar.

    the public health system is always chocka and especially in winter. Know this first hand having spent some time in the gastro ward of north shore hospital a few years back – spent 12hrs in ED before being transferred to the ward due to the long delays and stretched system.
    the system has always been and always be stretched/overwhelmed.
    So that argument by Labour was a flawed justification.

      A health system this is already running at – or near – full capacity would never be able to cope with the additional load of hospitalisations caused by a respiratory pandemic.

  Perhaps, but there’s another potential reason, which I tend to favour. It wasn’t that they didn’t believe in the Covid rules, it was that they believed those rules didn’t apply to them. Rules are for other people, the little people, the people who only matter every 3 (or 5 in the case of the UK) years. We’ll be good in election year, promise!

  Of course Maori have now decided that they didn’t cede sovereignty, why would they say otherwise? However, there are two parties to the Treaty and one says they did. And the other lived for years as if they did. You cannot except the Treaty, comply with its terms for 100+ years, then decide you don’t like it, or try and reinterpret it.

We could start with every penny, plus interest, of every settlement that has been made with every Maori tribe.   I respectfully disagree, Maggi – it is not too late at all.
  The “conversation” is only started on “co-governance” and will likely run into next year and up to the Election, and as background to people’s thoughts about the Treaty, Dame Anne Salmond’s view that it is non-racial, may be of considerable interest in contrast to He Puapua which will divide the country by its racism.
  I recommend reading Dame Anne Salmond’s article – before it is too late

Can the US win WW3?

The US professional military could fight well for around 6 to 12 months, also destroy a lot but in a war of attrition after 12 months the draft would have to be introduced. The ruling American class has nothing but contempt for the proles who would be expected to die in the war. The draft or volunteering for the American working class will never happen. The other problem is the US doesn’t have the manufacturing capacity to wage WW3. Once the initial military equipment is gone, the replacements will not be there.

Merica will lose WW3.

    Yes. The US in the 1940s is not the US in 2022. It has been raped and pillaged in the post WW2 period. It doesn’t manufacture anything anymore, and the sector of the population that would typically be called upon to fight a war – working class White males – are those who are openly hated by the Regime, and who in turn hate the Regime. That just leaves the women, the Mexicans and the transsexuals to fight. The White working class American male likely has more affinity with the more traditional, patriarchical, non-gender-fluid Russians than the US regime which favours none of these things.

Victor Davis Hanson Prof. of Military History surprised me saying in WWI, 10 months after deciding to join, the American Expeditionary force had 1 million men in France & by the end in 1918 2 million under General John J Pershing.     I think you should add to that that the CCP is simply a bunch of bull-shitters making up stories about their so called military capacity that is more than likely a smoke screen much like Russia’s, except weaker, less organized and less experienced. 80% of Chinese armed forces aren’t even active and don’t know how to use the equipment (if it exists).
    
    Simulations I have seen based on known capability versus know capabilities have the US holding their own in the first few months (given a starting point in the South China Sea), and then completely obliterating the Chinese once re-enforcements arrive. Basically the Chinese would be fighting a war in China, and the US would bomb them back to the stone age within 12 months.
    
    Never underestimate the USA. They happily show you their advanced weapons and demonstrate their use and effectiveness (95% effective versus 40% effectiveness for Russian junk in the Ukraine). It’s the weapons that the US are not telling you about that their enemies should worry about.

      Agree. Weapons aside, US engine tech is 20 years ahead of the rest of the world due to superior metallurgy.
      The US engines last, the Chinese not so much and the Russians less.
      The F35 is a game changer. Its ability to select over 100 targets and relay that to other resources to kill and also to drones which it can also direct and control is a force multiplier never seen before.

      I worked on a few projects for the US department of defence. An organization I worked for in the USA developed some systems that were never advertised but put onto the shelf should they ever be required.
      
      Similarly other companies like General Dynamics were funded to develop weapon systems that have never been announced. Tested yes, but kept under wraps to be used when required.
      
      I only know about the systems our group worked on and a few of the General Dynamics ones.
      
      There are very likely many more such systems unknown to me (or anyone else).
      
      One the strengths of the USA is that the country is incredibly wasteful. In a crunch they could tighten their belt and outlast any other country.

    Nuclear weapons make all this discussion moot. . A big direct conventional confrontation between China and USA is not going to happen. All chinas near neighbours are likely quietly developing nuclear weapons and delivery systems.
    
    If India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, USA, Australia etc were to club together and tell the Chinese to abandon the Spratleys ahead of a date when they would be nuked that would probably end China’s hegemonic ambitions in the South China sea.

  With regards to WW3. IMHO the biggest danger is Russia under Putin. The guy is physically and mentally sick. In that state facing death and with the control he has he could unleash nukes as a last stand.
  The CCP I dont think so. What they want is economic control not military control except for Taiwan that they believe is part of China and should be reunited.
  Again IMHO the CCP will “reunite” Taiwan. They will do so under the threat of nuke war and the US and West will cave in. The CCP will continue to exert control in the South Pacific and use that to bully Australia and NZ into agreeing to their demands.
  They see Oz as cheap and plentiful minerals and food and NZ as cheap food. They will force NZ to sell them what we produce cheaply and whilst not improvishing us keeping our standards of living at less than optimal.
  Our solution is to look to the UK Europe and South America for trade opportunities to reduce our reliance on then CCP.

Jacinda Ardern still has faith in Trevor Mallard as Speaker, but she’s very much in the minority. 1News reports:

The Prime Minister is under increasing pressure to sack Speaker Trevor Mallard, with a 1News Kantar Public Poll revealing many people think he’s not doing a good job.

Mallard made headlines earlier in the year when his handling of protesters at Parliament saw him turning on sprinklers and blasting music, before issuing trespass notices to former politicians.

The Prime Minister has always had his back, but poll results show she is in the minority.

The 1News Kantar Public Poll asked: Do you approve or disapprove of the way Trevor Mallard is handling his job as speaker?

Just 17% said they approved, while almost half disapproved. The rest didn’t know.

Opposition parties say the Government needs to act.

“This should be the people’s house that people have confidence in and people don’t have confidence in Trevor Mallard and certainly the National Party doesn’t,” Chris Bishop said.

First things first; the PM can’t simply sack Mallard, as he was elected by the whole Parliament. She can call him in for a meeting, and tell him she has no confidence in him, but in that case it would be his decision to stand aside.

National has tried have a Notice of Motion of No Confidence debated, but that can be prevented by any MP objecting to leave being granted. If she was absolutely determined to get rid of Mallard, Ardern could instruct her MP’s not to object to leave being granted, but that would be unprecedented in my lifetime. Even then, Mallard himself could object to National’s NoM being debated.

As it stands though, Mallard’s tenure of the role of Speaker is already tarnished forever. Labour rated at 35% in last week’s 1News /Kantar poll, so effectively more than half of those who would vote for Labour don’t support Mallard! So how much longer is Ardern prepared to be on the wrong side of history?

  This will force Mallard to be even more biased (if that’s possible!) and force Labour to continue to express confidence in a person who is totally unsuitable in the role.

    The reason why National wouldn’t do that is that it brings the parliamentary system into disrepute.
    No confidence motions are reserved for genuinely serious matters, not just as a daily political point scoring.
    Remember, National expects to be government. They don’t want to be in a “what goes round, comes round” situation. That is why the two major parties stay away from nuclear options. They both know they will spend time in Opposition as well as Government. So it is in their interests that Parliament remains reasonably workable.

    They don’t have to “do the job”. Mallard doesn’t, so the person replacing him doesn’t have to either.
    
    At this stage they just have to be anyone but Mallard – anyone could do that job.
    
    David Clark, Kelvin Davis, Stuart Nash and Carmel Sepuloni would all be worth choosing. They are all reasonably senior, but are doing bugger all useful in cabinet.
    
    They’d all be useless, but that’s not the point.

  Hmm. According to the Parliamentary website, the Speaker’s position is the third most important constitutionally, after the Governor-General and the Prime Minister. That alone should be enough to qualify the role as one in which we most certainly should take an interest.
  
  But there also happens to be the not insignificant matter that the Speaker leads the New Zealand Parliament’s international diplomacy.The Speaker represents Parliament internationally, at diplomatic functions and by hosting foreign dignitaries. According to the Parliamentary website, the Speaker’s activities “further international parliamentary relationships and contribute to advancing New Zealand’s interests“.
  
  So when we have a Speaker who the majority of people regard as somewhat less than “diplomatic” in just about every walk of life, I’d say actually we have every right to question him.

  Any property owner who wants to increase their chances of getting stolen property back should mark their property. Including gun owners.
  
  We already have a register of gun owners; anyone else found with a gun possesses it unlawfully and should be prosecuted for that.
  
  If the gun is not marked and reported stolen, it can be rendered inoperable, then destroyed.

      I’m sure someone has solved the problem of identifying collectors pieces for safe return if stolen without putting obvious marks on them. After all, lots of objects would come into that category – fine art, first editions, etc. I’d imagine making your collectors piece inoperable might destroy some of its value as a collectable, so you’d want to avoid that.

Co-director appointment for terrorism research centre “disturbing”

Professor Dr Joanna Kidman and Professor Paul Spoonley were appointed as co-directors of the Centre. Spoonley was appointed as an interim Director for up to a year, while Dr Kidman’s term is three years.

Dr Kidman is a professor of Māori Education at Victoria University of Wellington and is a sociologist, researching indigenous sociology, Māori youth, higher education, decolonisation studies and comparative education.

Andrew Little noted the focus of the centre would be “understanding diversity and promoting social cohesion.” But is Kidman’s appointment at odds with the minister’s messaging?

Left-leaning political commentator Chris Trotter said it was a “very disturbing appointment.”

I consider Kidman to be an extremist” while Left-leaning political blogger Martyn Bradbury described the appointment as “insane.”

“Labour pushed back on their hate speech madness, but are still trying to find new ways to restrict free speech, meaning this new Extremist Research Academy will have vast influence over very large powers, which brings us to the problematic appointment of Professor Joanne Kidman” he wrote in his blog.

I remember when

14yo suffers allergic reaction on Antigua to London flight after man refuses to stop eating peanuts.
Poppy Jones’s mother saw a man ten rows in front of them eating peanuts on the plane.
He refused to stop despite being told twice to do so. “I honestly thought she was going to die and it’s put me off flying in future,” Jones’s mother said.
She wants more done to protect those with nut allergies and there to be consequences for those who ignore people’s allergens.
British Airways said the crew followed procedures by asking passengers to not eat nuts because of the girl’s allergies.

Those of us that remember when ‘soggy’ tomato sandwiches were the worst of our problems with school lunches wonder why allergens are now such a problem.

  That’s a question I’ve been pondering for a few years now. I have a nephew who had the allergy. It’s certainly a relatively new phenomenon. At school in the 60s it didn’t exist. So what has happened in the intervening years? What is different for this to become such a major issue?

  When you sell all the shares in your business the company loses all of its imputation credits. That means that all that income that had been taxed at 28% will be taxed again when distributed as dividends but without any tax credits attached. This basically means they’ll be paying the 28% tax twice.
  
  No-one sells shares without clearing out the Imputation Credit Account by declaring dividends first. That policy is pointless, clueless and nasty. I’m actually embarrassed for Parker and especially the IRD for entertaining this mess.

  According to Police, the bloke, a King Cobras gang member, was holding a knife to the throat of his partner, and there was a young child in the room. The Police did what they had to do, and whilst injured, the woman and child got out alive. Meanwhile King Cobra members turned up at the Police cordon, and showered officers with abuse.
  
  My thoughts are with the officers who took this bloke down. They will now get put through the wringer with multiple investigations, and all the do-gooders will make all sorts of inferences that they didn’t have to shoot.

  The first quarter inflation figure was artificially low. Russia didn’t invade Ukraine until 24 February, almost two months into the March quarter. I suspect we’re in for some REALLY bad news with the June quarter inflation figure, which will include the full effect of fuel price rises and the knock-on effect of that. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if inflation is up around 9% for the June quarter.

Agree. Weapons aside, US engine tech is 20 years ahead of the rest of the world due to superior metallurgy.
The US engines last, the Chinese not so much and the Russians less.
The F35 is a game changer. Its ability to select over 100 targets and relay that to other resources to kill and also to drones which it can also direct and control is a force multiplier never seen before.

  Chinese metals that are recycled have virtually no new metal in the product. Full of other metals, white alloys, brass, copper. The product is brittle, has very little resistance to metal fatigue, just fracturs and breaks.

      In my extensive experience Chinese don’t trust Chinese for critical precision engineering. Chinese manufacturers will frequently insist upon using imported materials. Chinese sourced metals in generally meet the specifications for alloy constituents but frequently have unacceptable levels of ‘inclusions’ tiny fragments of various insoluble crap distributed through the metal. These fragments create local stress concentrations that weaken the metal massively – you can only use those Chinese sourced materials if you design the parts with much lower strengths levels in mind

Is the worm turning? A heart surgeon is published in Virology Journal, a respected mainstream journal: Adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines and measures to prevent them.

If you have been vaccinated, here is Dr Yamamoto’s advice in respect of suspected damage to your immune system:

The decrease in immunity can be caused by several factors such as N1-methylpseudouridine, the spike protein, lipid nanoparticles, antibody-dependent enhancement, and the original antigenic stimulus. These clinical alterations may explain the association reported between COVID-19 vaccination and shingles. As a safety measure, further booster vaccinations should be discontinued. In addition, the date of vaccination should be recorded in the medical record of patients. Several practical measures to prevent a decrease in immunity have been reported. These include limiting the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including acetaminophen to maintain deep body temperature, appropriate use of antibiotics, smoking cessation, stress control, and limiting the use of lipid emulsions, including propofol, which may cause perioperative immunosuppression.In conclusion, COVID-19 vaccination is a major risk factor for infections in critically ill patients.

Propofol is, I believe, used in minor surgical procedures. One of our resident Drs might like to comment.

  There’s some bad advice in there. It’s good to see high profile specialities speaking out like this and the neurosurgeon before but they are not at the forefront in managing the disease or the complications of vaccines. You’ll get better advice from FLCCC. Here is their management plan for vaccine injured.

    Curious to know what you considered to be bad advice from Dr Yamamoto. His appeared to be more focused on clinical settings where the FLCCC’s advice is more retail/public.

      Was it the FLCCC advice on vaccine injured that you posted? It’s quite detailed and specifically deals with the different scenarios and tailoring to the patient. It is aimed at medical professionals but their 1st stage treatment is easily understandable. You’ll notice that a lot of their advice contradicts the surgeon and really his comment on Propofol has no studies (that I’m aware of) to back it up.

A friend received an email from Vodafone today, updating how they’re investing more money in the network to achieve better connectivity, working on improving their communications, promising to keep costs down and do the very best they can.

The entire email appears to have then been repeated in Maori. Presumably for those customers who are unable to understand English, and can only speak Maori.

And I can’t help wondering … how many people would that be?

I suspect, not many.

And for some inexplicable reason, both versions of the email – the English version, and the Maori version – were signed off with “Ngā mihi”. Again, I can’t help wondering … if you’re going to take the bother to write the same blurb in English and in Maori, wouldn’t it be polite to sign off the English part in English, and sign off the Maori part in Maori?

The National Health Service has confirmed in response to a freedom of information request that ambulance call-outs relating to immediate care required for a debilitating condition affecting the heart nearly doubled in the whole of 2021 and are still on the rise further in 2022. But the most concerning published figures show that they have also doubled among people under the age of 30.

Look at the chart. Phew!

NZHerald Toby Manhire article, “Conspiracy theorists lose it over Jacinda Ardern clip”. follows the typical media pattern for correcting wrong think. It turns out she did actually visit Blackrock but he doesn’t like your tone. He manages to quite miraculously stuff all these words into the article : Qanon, Trump, Steve Bannon, Cabal, Conspiracy theorists , Nazism, Death Star, Disinformation, dystopian. insidious, secretive, shaky, disinformation, conspiratorial froth. He makes it clear by association that anyone considering the video or the visit should be clear they are at the fringes of society.
But ultimately the article doesn’t say the video is in question, it seems legit. She actually did visit Blackrock. And a real journalist might ask why? What did they discuss? What was the purpose?

He then says people are conspiratorially linking Macron, Trudeau and Ardern to the WEF, Klaus Schwab and a new world order. Well Fact check they are all young global leaders for WEF. He never mentions that. A real journalist would report they were young leaders for WEF and report what that means, what it entailed and what they learned as WEF Young leaders.

His final conspiracy theory is that “BlackRock owns all the major pharmaceutical companies and weapons manufacturers as well as most of the mainstream media.” But again after claiming it’s a conspiracy he then says it’s true they do hold stakes in some of these companies but he provides no detail of who. He agrees it warrants scrutiny. But then says the statements are debunked and “crap” and provides a fact check link to Reuters which basically says Blackrock doesn’t own these other companies the shareholders do so don’t worry.

So again we learned nothing from Manhire about Blackrock or who they own or who their shareholders are. . He provides no facts or journalism. He accuses other of empty hyperbole but engages in it himself.

In a nutshell, don’t ask about the Blackrock visit or the WEF or you are a very very bad conspiracy theorist.

  It was just three months ago, almost to the day, that NZ Herald editor Murray Kirkness stated:

Burger King, Austria have really got into the swing of things.
They are PROUD (!) of their new Rainbow burger. You can have it with two top halves of a burger bun, or two bottom halves of a burger bun. With beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese etc it does resemble a rainbow.
I had suggested to them several years ago that they sell a lettuce, gherkin, bacon and tomato sandwich. They could label it an LGBT sandwich; “it has a queer taste, but you will love it”.
