Does anyone think that now might be the time to peg back the $B demands of the cycling activists and maybe spend some of that money on state highways?
Not everyone lives in cities.
Not everyone wants to ride a bike to work.
The flooding in the top of the South Island has shut down two state highways. It will take weeks to open one of them and the other won’t be much better.
I realise this government is not interested in rural residents or businesses, but surely there must now be some appetite for addressing the financial neglect of provincial roads – large and small.
On both SH6 and SH63 there are still one-lane bridges – one with an accompanying river ford to cater for trucks.
Waka Kotahi is doing its best here to manage and repair the highways (and other roads) with diminishing financial resources.
Some of the $B’s being set aside for flash cycle bridges and lanes for a few could go a long way towards changing this situation for the many.

    Soon you won’t need those roads because the endgame is to get you out of your car. Fewer cars, fewer roads. You can cycle, walk, public transport, and with the new ultra-crowded cities it’ll be easier with everything much closer like noise, smells, crime.
    
    That nice stretch of cruising road in the countryside will soon be nothing more than a horrible relic of the nasty individualistic past.

        But it’s way beyond that now and and has bugger all to do with any particular leader, even one as creepy as Ardern.
        
        It’s all been taught in schools for a couple of decades and was well underway long before then. What appears to be a sudden explosion of this ideology is in fact the result of a lot of work by politically-smart people, much smarter than those now wondering, how the hell did this happen?
        
        Well, it’s a tidal wave and the huge swell is only now apparent. Tidal waves don’t get held back. Too much momentum.
        
        Here’s a great little project: try to get rid of the Blue-Greens in National who are as devoted to Net Zero, the fake market of emissions trading, green subsidies and environmental indoctrination, as much as any member of the Green Party.

We could breed the common nag for commuting to town for shopping, work etc. A racing stable for those who have to go to another town or city at a fast pace.         Clan – the agenda is to impoverish us and reduce our numbers. They are well on their way with the excessive spending during covid and now the mismanagement of the resultant inflation. “You will have nothing and be happy!” – not even an electric car because there will be nowhere to park it with developers not being required to plan for adequate off-street parking and with cycleways taking away on-street parking, and nowhere to charge it overnight even if we actually have any electricity with the shortages being planned as coal and diesel get phased out and unreliable and costly “renewables” take over.
        
        Remember that Ardern does not work for us no matter what she says which is garbage anyway.

  The state highway network around our area is in the worst condition that I can recall.
  
  I just drove from Tauranga to Taupo and it was an exercise in dodging potholes. To be fair, it has also been an extremely wet winter.

  It might be time to totally forget cyclists altogether. Make them learn to pay their own way like We do. Cyclists want a bridge? Fine, make a group and do some fundraising – or build the fucker yourself.

      Generally its urban areas supporting rural areas, I don’t think rural areas have the population base to cover the costs of roads and possibly other services. (I know plenty don’t to cover costs of meeting water standards)

        We pay rates here (quite considerable) to the local council. For that we get a shared road. Sometimes it is improved and maintained. Sometimes not.
        It could be argued (so I was told by a previous mayor) that we can use the road to go to town and, once there, we can access “assets” such as the library, theatre and sports facilities.
        Some people who have changed their land use to plant grapes for wine contribute many thousands of $dollars in rates for a road. One family we know pays $40,000 pa.
        Which, incidentally, is why so much land is now in the hands of overseas investment companies.
        Same with trees – although they get their money from carbon credits not wine.

  Once you understand that Labour and the Greens don’t want cars on the roads, the rest of their policies make perfect sense. It is incompetence, it’s willful destruction and neglect, as all their policies have been since Ardern got to be in charge. She’s a one woman wrecking ball masquerading as “kind and caring.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

  I’m a keen cyclist – I own a road bike, a hybrid commuter and a carbon fibre hardtail MTB. I think it’s well past time to peg back the demands of the cycling lobby and to put that money into maintaining, improving and extending our roading network.
  
  I’ve also advocated for some time to register all bicycles that ride on the road, regardless of the age of the rider, or who’s riding it at the time. We tolerate speed camera fines being paid by the registered owner unless they can prove (or swear an affidavit) that it wasn’t them and to name the driver, so why wouldn’t the same apply to bikes?
  
  The reality is that too many of my fellow cyclists ignore the rules of the road with impunity, and infuriate both car drivers and responsible cyclists.
  
  It’s true that some drivers are menaces and let the red mist descend, and I loathe a particular blog that refers to all cyclists as road maggots which is lazy and potentially dangerous. It’s a very uneven contest, car vs bike and the cyclist is only ever going to be the loser. Take a breath, count to 5 and give us some room. We’re people too.

    There is a small vocal and influential cycling lobby but I’m not sure that they are the ones pushing for most of the expensive expansion of cycling infrastructure. I think it is part of the plan to get rid of cars and they are drawn into it when asked for their advice.

    Good points. Cyclists who are not licenced drivers should have to sit some sort of driving test. If they’re in charge of a vehicle on the public road then they need to prove that they know the rules.

    If so you are wrong. It refers to Damascus, the capital of Syria – and the “Damascene moment” refers to the conversion of St. Paul to Christianity back about the year 38 AD when he was on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians living there.

  It is well worth reading Winston’s speech. Love him or hate him, he is one of the very few politicians speaking against co-governance. He is totally correct in saying that the Treaty of Waitangi did not establish a partnership between Maori and the Crown. In 1840 the Maori people signed the treaty and became subjects of the Crown. They did not become partners of the Crown. There is not two standards of citizenship. We are all, black white or brown, subjects of the Crown.
  
  Can someone please tell Jacinda?? And all the other woke elite’s that parrot this nonsense.
  We need democracy restored. One person one vote. And we need to think carefully about how we vote next year. Because a vote for labour, a vote for Greens, a vote for the Maori party, is a vote for co-governance and treaty partnership. And please don’t think we will get equality at the end of this. Radicals don’t believe in equality and never stop at equality. The aim is to run the show. I’m sorry but I believe the aim is Maori ascendancy. Three waters is a good example. The new health system is a good example. The 15% of the population that identify as Maori get veto rights over the other 85% as regards to water and as regards to health.
  
  That is not right. That is establishing a Maori elite with more rights than anybody else. Unfortunately our current trial of socialism has shown that socialism always works the same way. We are all equal. But some people are more equal than others.

    That’s pretty much what Luxon has been saying all year. National stands for equal citizenship for every New Zealander, and opposes any co-governance of government services:
    
    A country that emphasizes what unites us, instead of what divides us. A country that says absolutely, explicitly, that there is one standard of democracy, equal voting rights and no co-governance of public services.

      Tony: unfortunately, when Luxon say that’s the country he want to live in, that’s aspirational. And that’s Cindy’s thing. Aspire, but never quite arrive.
      How about Luxon says, ‘that’s the country National promises to deliver. No ifs, no buts. One standard of democracy, equal voting rights and no co-governance of public services’.
      I’m concerned that if Luxon doesn’t toughen up his language, he’ll find Winston has syphoned off a bunch of votes that should be going to National. And may cost National/Act the next election.

        Not sure you guys have a handle on MMP. A second electorate seat “set aside” or otherwise won by ACT is irrelevant. It would just mean we bring in one less list MP. And by the way Epsom is also irrelevant in 2023 unless ACT drop below the 5% threshold.
        The only way to rort the system next year would be to run a MASSIVE campaign to get the vast majority of CR voters to vote National list and ACT electorate (or vice versa) so that ACT won all the blue electorate and these were an overhang as they got 0% party vote.
        I suspect doing this would not go down well.

    I’ll still be party voting ACT as I have the last 2 elections, after a lifetime of voting for National and a brief time as a member, but NZ First could yet have a part to play. If it were a choice of forming a government with the Maori Party lunatics or Winston, I know which I’d prefer.

  I think this is an outcome of the new govt debt system. When crown entity debt didn’t count as govt debt, they sold KB off to government agencies for a cash injection and to reduce debt (on paper only).         I learnt the hard way. Nice and calm, Takapuna to the Noises. Lovely trip, say 40 minutes, caught a few, and then it happened. Tide started out and NE wind came up. Over 2 hours to get back. 15 foot with 50 HP.
        Bit different now. Old Haines V17, 140 Suzuki 4
        stroke. No sweat from Gulf Harbour to the Mokihinaus and back.

  It’s not clear from the article whether the SUDI stats quoted are for all income households, or just low income ones. If they are comparing like households, then the problem would not appear to be poverty. So what are Maori and Pacific parents doing differently? Is the same disparity seen in higher income households?
  
  And I think “a bleak picture of upholding children’s rights” should read “a bleak picture of lack of parental responsibility”. Parents choose to have children – no-one else is forcing them too and I understand abortion is pretty much on demand these days, so that is not the reason.
  
  I wonder how much support there would be for improved sex education, access to contraception and access to vasectomies?

Back on January 9th, a group of HELLS ANGELS, South Carolina bikers were riding east on 378 when they saw a girl about to jump off the Pee Dee River Bridge. So they stopped.
George, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks through a group of gawkers, past the State Trooper who was trying to talk her down off the railing, and says,
“Hey Baby . . . whatcha doin’ up there on that railin’?”
She says tearfully, “I’m going to commit suicide!!”
While he didn’t want to appear “sensitive,” George also didn’t want to miss this “be-a-legend” opportunity either so he asked . . . “Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe . . . why don’t you give ol’ George here your best last kiss?”
So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing and did just that . . . and it was a long, deep, lingering kiss followed immediately by another even better one.
After they breathlessly finished, George gets a big thumbs-up approval from his biker-buddies, the onlookers, and even the State Trooper, and then says, “Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had! That’s a real talent you’re wasting there, Sugar Shorts. You could be famous if you rode with me. Why are you committing suicide?”
“My parents don’t like me dressing up like a girl.”
It’s still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed.

I was prompted to revisit the issue of the ‘deportees’ by this news:

Former sergeant-at-arms of the Canberra chapter of the Comancheros Sosefo Tu’uta Katoa, 28, will be expelled from Australia after former Home Affairs minister David Coleman cancelled his visa on character grounds in 2019.

Tu’uta Katoa had been remanded and exiled on Christmas Island over charges including bomb possession and blackmail at the time.

He had also previously been convicted of multiple other offences including a serious assault charge.
In 2019, a court heard that police suspected him of being involved in as many as 28 gang shootings and 33 cases of arson.”

The media report does not say how long this guy has lived in Australia, but it must have been for a considerable period if he has been involved in “28 gang shootings and 33 cases of arson”. He is exactly the type of criminal about which Jacinda has been so agitated when they are deported to New Zealand.

Yet Jacinda is silent on this maniac about to land on our shores. Indeed she has been silent since she claimed ‘peace in out time’ a few weeks ago.

Here is my prediction. The new Australian Government will continue the policy of the last Australian Government. There will be the odd case where a New Zealand criminal has lived their “entire life” in Australia (Albanese chose those words deliberately IMO!) who will be allowed to stay – e.g. they have lived in Australia for 40 years since infancy, and their crimes are at the lower end of the seriousness scale – e.g. a repeat burglar rather than a murderer. This will be the odd bone thrown to Jacinda. It might amount to one or two cases per year.

My second prediction is that Jacinda will never campaign on this issue again. She will never again criticise the Australian Government for deporting “their’ crimninals. That is because she wants voters to remember the ‘win’ she had over that nice Mr Albanese in July 2022. It was a win because she said it was a win. That is all that matters.

The criminals will keep flowing here as they have for the last few years and Jacinda will be silent. If challenged she will simply ‘refude’ the question, referring the questioner back to her conversation with that nice Mr Albanese in July 2022.

I ground my views in science and data analysis. I am no conspiracy theorist. Let’s just pick apart what this guy is saying.

The worst purveyor of ‘misinformation’ on the vaccines is Jacinda. The day she said that she would use the vaccine ‘to stamp out COVID like measles’ was the day I switched off permanently. She clearly understood nothing about the efficacy of the vaccine and what protection it could provide (very little as it turned out).

On climate change, the Government’s emissions reduction policies are an incoherent mess and its targets unachievable without wrecking the country. Again, Jacinda is the chief culprit in misinformation.

  I don’t recall anybody forcing me to watch a documentary about how harmful the vaccine is. Nobody has come to my house and delivered a sermon on the dangers of vaccines. And nobody has mandated that I must not get the vaccine.
  
  Peter Griffin’s argument seems to go back to the fact that some people are daring to exercise their democratic right and stand for local body elections, and he disagrees with their opinions. I suppose the implication is that these people, if elected will … what? Ram through bylaws stating that all vaccination programs in their council are now on hold? Give me a break. If he believes that, I’m afraid I have to call Mr Griffin out as a – CONSPIRACY THEORIST.

NZ education is toast. Until women (and men) like this are gone, students are screwed! She is an absolute nutter, and has clearly lost the plot on education. Many of the things she says are incomprehensible.

She denies that education is in decline, blaming ‘the environment’ instead. Her solution is to take a maori centric and holistic approach… maths doesn’t matter.

Why do we pay people like this to destroy our education system? God help us!

This is an excellent review of the current state of play in the covid narrative around the planet. In my opinion. It’s a very interesting read either way.

As rather too confidently anticipated by US medical administrator Anthony Fauci on the eve of Trump’s inauguration, there was ‘no doubt’ the incoming president would be confronted with a ‘surprise’ infectious disease outbreak.

Looking back, there are strong indications that certain people knew what was coming, whatever the plausible deniability. A pandemic would enable a giant stride towards a highly regulated society, with the traditional social structures of faith, flag and family obliterated, and citizens neutered. A ‘new normal’ would be instilled, disingenuously justified by a public health emergency. Mortal fear would have more immediate impact than the other contrived crisis of climate change.

And so it came to pass. With remarkable speed World Economic Forum leader Klaus Schwab wrote a book on how to ‘build back better’ from the contagion. In The Great Reset, published in June 2020, he enthused that ‘the pandemic represents a rare but narrow opportunity to reflect, reimagine, and reset our world’.

Remember Ardern parroting the mantra “build back better”?

But the final and most important point to highlight is that whilst the slightly curious Telegraph and other almost curious media organisations are undoubtedly correct to make the connection between some excess deaths having occurred because of the cancellation of appointments, treatments and operations, it seems they are once again up to their old trick of diverting attention from the elephant in the room. Or rather I should say the whole herd of elephants in the room bellowing for attention, by which I mean the Injections-Masquerading-as-Vaccines and the whole host of mechanisms they have for causing deteriorating health and even death.

Stuff says the Government is to take full ownership of Kiwibank.

Why would the State be stepping into beef up ownership of a bank? “Beef up”, because it already owned controlling stakes in the bank.

The ownership it is taking over is held by Kiwi Group Holdings. This is owned by NZ Post (53%), ACC (25%) and the NZ Super Fund (22%) – all State owned.

Stuff says the Government transaction puts a total value on Kiwibank of $2.1 billion.

Kiwibank is 74.67 per cent owned by Kiwi Group Holdings , with the minority balance moderately diversely held.

    The Crown has always been the ultimate owner of Kiwibank. And the ultimate funder of Kiwibank. But it’s never actually had the ability to directly influence or control Kiwibank’s investment and growth.
    
    ACC and NZ Post, in particular, have been poor owners of Kiwibank, with no appetite to invest to grow the business. The Crown does have that appetite. I suspect the board and staff of Kiwibank will be very happy about this move.

  Kiwibank is 100% owned by Kiwi Group Holdings.
  
  Kiwi Group Holdings was owned 53% by NZ Post, 25% by NZ Super and 22% by ACC. The Crown is “buying” all of Kiwi Group Holdings from these three current owners.
  
  I say “buying” because although cash will change hands it is all within the Crown’s broader balance sheet. So it ultimately is a question of who now controls the direction of Kiwibank, more than who “owns” it.

This is a sensitive topic but per Stuff, Efesco Collins is encountering racism on the campaign trail. Stuff referenced the word ‘coconut’. This word used to have a connotation that someone was brown on the outside but white on the inside and was a slur used by blacks against each other. I am wondering if this insult against Efesco is coming from his own community.

  More to the point, where are the links to the “misinformation” or “conspiracy theories” they refer to?
