Labour considering axing iconic election walkabout as Grant Robertson reveals details of abuse.
While Grant Robertson and the Labour Government are using smears on the National Party Leader Chris Luxon over the Sam Uffindell bullying report they are crying wolf over the threats they are receiving from some in the public.
Really what do they expect when a Senior Cabinet Minister made comments on the those protesting mandates by referring to them as the river of filth.
Then you have our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in her speech at Harvard also making a derogatory about those in New Zealand that didn’t agree with her , so really isn’t this the pot calling the kettle.
If you want to play games with the taxpayer make sure the message you send is not labeled at those you have continually upset with mandates, loss of jobs and threats at the people you used in the “Team Of 5 Million” and then discarded them when they weren’t needed anymore.

It seems to be alright for the Labour Party to lie and threaten the public at will with the media only to willing to help but the moment they retaliate it all the publics fault never those that smear and discredit others to help there own cause, and Grant Robertson is a master at the game with blaming others.

    Richard Prebble (fenced off by the Herald by its pay wall) wants Luxon to rule out any coalition with the Maori Party. Here he is on Luxon:
    
    He has united the poisonous National caucus. He correctly picked inflation as the number one issue. Yet he still trails Jacinda Ardern – and National could lose.
    
    The reason defeat is possible is because Luxon will not rule out National forming a coalition with the Maori Party. If the Maori Party is a suitable coalition partner for National, then it follows that the Maori Party is a suitable partner for Labour.
    
    Coalitions are the soul of MMP. Should any be ruled out before an election?

      No one would want a Greens/National coalition and I doubt many want a National/Maori coalition with the current crowd in that party either.

We arrived here with $600 and a job and have carved out a life . I am not going to stand by and allow a gaggle of student activists, shadowy globalists and tragic post modernist arse holes rob me of everything we have worked for. No! I didn’t cross the world to have sad arse wankers who I suspect suffer from a unique antipodean sense of inadequacy ruin my life. The truth is the country and its people are great, unfortunately it’s government are at present a collection of naive activists drenched in radical left wing nonsense who are IMHO are concerned more with their overseas reputations in the woke social circles than they are in performing their duties to the people who pay their wages.   I recall in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes left wing activists were quickly on the ground whipping up discontent. Some suburbs were no go areas for John Key because of fears for his safety from people not geology. Labour and media friends then blasted Key for not going into these suburbs. Key acted on police advice that they didn’t have the manpower to protect him and deal with the earthquake.

For example in 2008 John Key did a pre-election walk around at Wellington Station at 8am as commuters were passing through. Location was kept secret until the last minute so left wingers and other protesters had no time to muster.

So the media is still piling on about King Charles III being irritated about a pen not working when signing constitutional papers. If I was in his shoes I would be irritated too and would feel like sending the responsible person off to the Tower for a few days. He got thrown into the job at the deep end and there were all sorts of expectations and thing he had to attend to, especially one off tasks in getting a new reign off the ground. He has every right to expect those supporting him to get things right especially when millions are watching on TV. Predictions of hew his reign should go should not be coloured by one incident. The Media should get a life.

      Trevor did NOT punch a fellow MP. As far as I remember he hit the fellow MP very lightly with a folder. The ‘victim’ took it in good heart did not make a fuss. It was only some busybody who duped a judge to agree to a private prosecution that put it in the news big time. I think judges are now more careful with signing off private prosecutions and would generally expect to see a complaint by the victim.

  Dangerous and misleading. If I made my voting decisions based on the data here I could vote for people that actually believe the opposite. It would be useful if the respondents answered the questions accurately but they haven’t and that makes it dangerous.
  
  For example ‘Yani Johanson’ says, opposes rate rises and doesn’t want to ‘discourage use of private motor vehicles’. His voting history and public statements would suggest that those are at best ‘misleading’. I would add that Yani is a member of ‘People’s Choice’ which is the Christchurch wing of the labour party.

Interesting numbers. Atlanta airport was the busiest in the world with over 105 million passing through in 2018. By 2020 this was down to 42 million. Beijing numbers fell from 97 million to 34 million.

With so few people using aircraft, such a reduction in travel and work why didn’t CO2 levels fall?

    My guess is that while travellers are down, the reduction in the amount of co2 emitted from burning jet fuel is only down by a negligible amount as a proportion of total global environmental and anthropocentric co2 emissions.
    
    Burning of jet fuel is about 2.5% of global emissions total. which is more than 10 times New Zealands total CO2 equivalent claimed emissions. i.e. both are negligible and changes in them will not show up in environmental measurements.

      Every living thing in NZ could be eliminated; every person; every animal; every bird; every marine creature. And global emissions would drop by less than 0.5% (since NZ has fairly high geothermal activity), which is meaningless.
      
      I’ve said before, NZ’s biggest environmental problem isn’t emissions, it it water quality. Improving that would improve more people’s lives than improving our emissions score.

        As for water quality, i cant see any issues except in a couple small areas of some major cities. It is a pretty minimal problem as well.

    To add to that, A cursory google search suggests that jet fuel usage is down by about 1/3rd on average over the last 3 years (projected out to the end of 2022). So, a reduction of less than 1% of anthropocentric CO2 emissions. normal y/y variations in measurements is going to struggle to show that up.

    Not really, personal travel does not account for a huge proportion of emissions. Most places generation of electricity and heating are the largest sources of co2 emissions. Transport of goods didnt really stop, and generally industrial usages didnt really stop. I dont know what the number actually is, but individuals driving cars around or taking flights is not a big part of the global co2 emissions portfolio.

  Atmospheric Co2 is a product of heat (primarily from the sun, and orbital changes in relation to the heat source (the sun), and also solar activity (solar flares and other solar bursts) not the other way around. Heat the oceans and the biosphere, and they release more Co2 into the atmosphere. The earth gets hotter coming out of an ice age. We are at the tail end of that process so yeah, each new yearly global average temp is probably going to be ‘breaking records”. There is nothing unusual or unprecedented about this.
  
  Co2 also has a negative logarithmic relationship to the ability to absorb infrared radiation. The more Co2 the less IR absorption. Non-activist atmospheric physicists calculate an approx 1C rise of average global temps per DOUBLING of atmospheric Co2. Not a problem. Alarmists are chasing the wind at great expense to everyone else.

There has been very little coverage of the latest bond figures and the enormous rise in rents. Akl central is being used as a fig leaf as rents are pretty static there with immigration and it being a shit place to live.
Canterbury up 9.5%, Wellington 9.4%, Taranaki 11.1% etc etc.
This is a direct result of government policies hammering landlords. The bottom end of the market is being abandoned hence the 30,000 people in emergency housing and worse to come. The state cant build houses quick enough to replace private landlords and there is a good argument the state would be better using its funds to perhaps get us access to 1st world drugs rather than building which they do very expensively.
With the interest tax shortly going to 50% the next wave of exiting landlords will hit hard.
Look at Ireland where there were 731 vacant rentals for a population of 5 million. Look at rents in Scotland and England for a precursor of where our market is going.
Landlords are moving to the new townhouse market because of govt policies, the composition of available houses is changing unnoticed. National are going unnoticed in this area no doubt fearful they find themselves associated with the hated property owning classes but they should unashamedly celebrate investing and providing houses.
Maybe if it starts effecting the trans community the media might notice.

    I hear some other landlords have the same issue. Depends on location it seems. Like Auckland CBD apartments staying vacant due mostly to big drop in overseas students.
    
    On the news, employers have applied for something north of 50,000 visas. That should help over time, if they are mostly approved, and there is net migration (not a given of course).

      Of course, the vetting of potential tenants has become nearly a full-time job.

    A quick google search shows Balmoral police station is 2 blocks away, 1.5km and a 4min drive (for a non police vehicle). Whilst I hold government policy to blame for the spike in crime you do have to wonder where the f@#k the police are?

    Sikhs were recognised by the British as a martial race. If a few of them sleep on the premises for a few months, with axe handles ready….Well, then we DO know the police will come quickly and down like a ton of bricks ….on the shop keepers who defend themselves!

Russia is setting up referendums in regions of eastern Ukraine for them to join Russia. This is probably more of a strategic move than one would think on the surface. We know the outcome will be to join Russia, irrespective of how the population might vote. Integrating the regions into Russia will mean any Ukrainian troops in them can be seen as an invasion into Russian territory. It would make general mobilisation much more likely if not inevitable, but also, it moves the situation into the realm of Russian nuclear doctrine of defence in the existentialist threat to the motherland. After all from the Russian point of view, the Ukrainians would be trying to invade the contiguous Russian border (even if it is a border inside of what was Ukraine at the start of the year).

It is interesting that Putin appears to have been scheduled for a national address earlier this morning which never happened. Maybe it was just fog of war, or maybe he pulled out, either way not really sure.

Why do some issues inspire “deeper” media inquiry – like researching the Uffindell matter from so many angles – but not joining any dots on other matters?

    Her story about running away from the flat to a friend’s flat has now morphed into running to the Library.
    
    (not a thing you would forget, I’d have thought).

      Regarding the “running away”, flats are an interesting dynamic. You put a bunch of strangers together, it’s not unexpected that some may not get on with others, and that some flat churn occurs until a reasonably settled group forms.
      
      Had the same thing myself. First flat in Wellington was a shit hole in Berhampore, and there was conflict between me and another, who was rooting the principal tenant. I moved out. Problem solved, I was happier, presumably they were happier, no one cares…
      
      To go back 40 years and say “my mental health was harmed” because it was an unhappy time is ridiculous

    I think Luxon is trying to have it both ways. He commissioned the investigation, read the report and made a decision which is his to make. It is all an internal National Party matter – he has decided the outcome – and that’s it.
    
    By talking about selected bits of the report he is trying to justify its veracity and convince some of it that it is 100% kosher because he says so. By not releasing any of the real detail he is basically saying the decision was his anyway. He is fudging it with little bits. We should accept the report conclusions because here are some titbits.
    
    It was his call – I agree with that. He could have just said so.
    
    Eventually it will go away no matter what his decision was. A bit like SB did with horror phone call between him and JLR.

* Whole language versus phonics. Although phonics were still part of the learning experience -certainly when whole language was introduced.
* Proliferation of training providors. Resulting in uneven instruction of trainee teachers. Also less rigourous ‘weeding out’ of those unsuitable because of economics.
* The new Mathematics curriculum.
* An increase in the ‘rights of the student’ changing discipline for teachers.
* Cellphone use.

I am interested to see that the Uffendell as reported is being challenged by the media – but not surprised as I believe it is suggested that the media were not entirely truthful in reporting what the young woman from Dunedin said to them.

It is reported that the young woman, who raised the whole subject of the report, by a eminent top woman KC – often used by the Labour Party too – is against the finality of the report and the conclusion – sadly the media55 are not happy in being accused of not being entirely correct.

Why did the young lady only attend one meeting and refused to do anything further to progress her the complaint she raised, with help of the media55.
We understand that something like 14 people attended meetings with the KC in concluding report.

We are now hearing much obrium aganst the conclusion of the report with some sad comments from the complainent and her media supporters.

Sadly really she made the complaint which is not now substantiated so is now bitter.
Why did she not help the top independent KC ?

After all Maria Dew has done work for Labour previously so surely it is a smear to suggest that her independence is somehow compromised as “bought and paid for by the National Party”. Yes our CO2 emissions are miniscule and will make no difference but it is important to (virtue?) signal our commitment to saving the planet.

My response is always: I agree we must suffer to save the planet by committing to do our bit to produce the components of renewable energy. We must immediately provide government funding to mine 500 tonne of earth for every electric car sold in New Zealand.
Kiwi-mine must commit to be copper and cobalt neutral by 2030.

Anything less would show you are not really committed to saving the planet.

      Sure, it’s an option, but most well-trained police males would have had this guy on the ground without resorting to putting a round through his chest. If all physical confrontations are justifiably solved by using lethal force then even the mere threat of one must also be handled the same way. And that’s nuts.
      
      It seems to me that police use of tasers, spray and guns must increase as more female cops are employed through equity policies.

Research is emerging now — science takes time — that suggests that the Green Pass and other similar coercive measures across the world did not positively affect the outcomes of public health. Grant Robertson’s new found phobia about pink Lamington’s must be an attempt to continue to deflect attention from his 9 billion dollar problem. I would draw people’s attention to Croaking Cassandra’s post of September 15 in which he blames Orr for this. I blame Robertson. Due to his direction the RBNZ is holding an enormous portfolio of Govt stock with a record low coupon and they have an indemnity from Robertson against any losses. For Robertson not to have understood all that money printing would be inflationary and result in higher interest rates is either unbelievable, inconceivable or both. A week or three ago the loss amounts to 9billion dollars. Once rates have gone up a bit more we will be starting to talk about real money. Without the indemnity the RBNZ might well be insolvent. This is now coming home to roost at 150 to 200 million dollars a month and rising as interest rates rise. That expenditure and the RBNZ loss will have to be reflected in the crown accounts somewhere.

We dont seem to have any journalists who understand how egregious an error of judgement this has been. They might just think it is some sort of mark to market accounting fiction but it is a large amount of very real taxpayer money

Back in March Treasury we’re predicting a $5.1 B loss for the taxpayer on Robbo’s $53 B Covid QE bonds purchase. In light of the recent rout on bond markets what do the loses amount to now??
We have to remember that it is the very same money

Didn’t know last summer was our fifth hottest. I guess that is why so many people down here had fires going on and off through last summer, electric blanket stayed on the bed. Sure we had a couple of hot days, but a lot of cooler days and snow appearing on the hills a few times.

Sorry , behind paywall, but his idea is simple. Form a new water company for each region. These companies would have greater economies of scale than individual councils (and be more responsive to regional issues than Wellington).

Councils are allocated shares and receive revenue according to their assets. The councils get to appoint directors, including board places for iwi if really necessary. Surpluses flow back to the councils.

So, Oi! Hipkins/Mahuta…. idea that!

Victim advocate Ruth Money, who is supporting two women who were abused by the teacher aide, said at the meeting that she felt that the board had been mislead by the principal.

“I believe the board has been conned,” she said. “By one person.”

However, she strongly criticised the board for an email which was sent yesterday to parents by a PR firm.

She said the email had minimised the teacher aide’s actions and suggested that media reporting on the case had been inaccurate.

The reporting was accurate, Money said, and the board were effectively calling vulnerable women liars.

The board was also asked why the police vetting forms were not held on the staff member’s file. A board member said it had been school policy not to attach the vetting forms to staff records, but this policy was now being reviewed.

The board said it would not be commenting further while the investigation is under way. It is scheduled to be completed in term four of the school year.
