  Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarussian languages are fairly close. Both use Cyrillic letters though there are minor differences in their alphabets.
  
  They are closer than English and Maori, even with the latter’s vast number of borrowings and adaptations from English.

  Yesterday on KB I was accused of being crass saying the republicans would soon come out of the woodwork. I was right. Already the tattooed woman from the Maori Party and former PM Bolger have come out of the blocks. Others will soon follow.
  We will have to choose between the tried and proven Democractic Constitutional Monarchy of New Zealand with King Charles III as our Head of State or the untried and unproven Socialist Republic of Aotearoa with a Hard Left President.

    I think the idea is that the president would be sort of like the president of India – head of state rather than head of government.

      1 What the Constitution says
      
      2 What type of Head of State do we get. A Nominal HoS like Germany, India etc
      
      OR
      
      A Head of State who is voted in and has Powers akin to the US or France
      
      3 If the Former how is that HoS appointed.
      
      4 NO retired Politicians of people who have held Office in a Political Party can be appointed or stand for election as the HoS

        What you say is interesting. When Aust had a referendum on becoming a Republic, the thing that allegedly defeated it was that the President would be nominated by the Govt. That was a disaster for aspiring Republicans.
        However, if the President is determined by the people via democratic means (One person, one vote), there is a very grave risk that we will get a real fuckwit as President, very much in the same manner as we choose NZer of the Year. And for that reason, I’m definitely not in favour of becoming a Republic.
        Republic (noun) a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.
        I’m very much in favour of retaining the Monarchy.

        New Zealander of the Year is selected by an independent panel of the Respected Executive Judges. There’s no reason why the same Panel couldn’t select our next President. Dr Ashley Bloomfield immediately comes to mind as the most suitable candidate with Professor Siouxsie Wiles as their Co-President.     Not that long ago NZers made it clear that they wanted to hold onto their flag. This was a tacit confirmation of this countries fundamental link to its roots including the British commonwealth.
    
    Activists will agitate. There are those that would like to separate NZ from its historical roots to the British isles. The Commies particularly would like to break this link and the link that the Monarchy has to the Church, just look at the way Helen Clarke rejected knighthoods to see what they think.
    
    This country was founded on the bedrock of the British empire, its Monarchy, laws, institutions, Churches. As well as the hard work of all its different people. While this has its flaws the country has generally prospered and it’s citizens have enjoyed increasing standards of living as the years have gone by. It has been a place desirable for peoples of many nations to seek a better life for themselves and their kin. A nation blessed by peace.
    
    So I say to the activists, there is nothing to suggest and plenty of examples that show a new system will not improve our lot. The Marxist authoritarian drive of the past 5 years has been detrimental to our nation. We are regressing and all of us are worse off in material, emotional, relational, spiritual, ways than we were before. We need to return to the tried and true.
    
    You can’t prove to me your New World Order is beneficial. We don’t want it. Leave us alone! If you don’t like our ways, then bugger off somewhere else.

      They came here to take the place over – call it settlement, colonisation, whatever. They didn’t come to make it a better place for the people who already lived here.
      
      The British Empire was expanded in the 1800’s to gain territories, markets and profits. Some of the places they took over had enough organised indigenous (non-British) folk to eventually toss them out eg most of Africa, Burma, India and the Caribbean. Some (NZ, Australia, Canada) didn’t. It is what it is.
      
      If you think our head of state should be a random English aristocrat whose claim is based on who his mother was … I guess it’s a free country.

        Yes there are things that could have been better, not just for Maori but for the Chinese, Dalmatians, Indians, Irish, Scots, lower classes etc. But the thing with envy activism is in the pursuit of equality you impoverish everybody by getting rid of the greater good with the bad. Just look at what happened when the Romans left the Brits/Picts to themselves. It took over 1000 years for them to pull out of their savagery with the civilising influence of the Vikings and Christianity.
        
        The Monarchy is not just a random person, foremost it is an institution that is part of the overall system of British empire. Charles might be a complete Wally but the system under him provides stability.
        
        Compared to your new Communist regime, which we have tasted under Jacinda and rule by Covid, I will take the institution of Monarchy. Start your banana republic someplace else Ian.

    A bit hysterical, last man, not like you. Fine if your view is to keep the British monarch as our head of state; others will have different views.
    
    King Charles is no less “untried” than any other model, and to suggest that, simply because we might have a different head of state, that automatically means socialism, a formal name-change for the country, and a “Hard Left” President is drawing three very long bows.
    
    In reality, we’ll get the system we choose, and the leaders we choose. I give the New Zealand voting public a little bit more credit than you evidently do, but next year’s general election will show if my faith is misplaced, or not.

The problem with socialism and all those “free” handouts is that eventually you run out of other peoples’ money (hat-tip Maggy T), and I trust middle New Zealand to wake the f*ck up in time. It’s astounding that the Herald is calling for a full and transparent review of the covid response, saying too the media has sought answers throughout the pandemic and even going so far as to say the two ( Nortland breach) women were vilified .

Yet their front page headline on 9/10 /2021 was “Deceitful visit costs Northland”.

They relentlessly pushed the covid narrative and gleefully published page after page of their 90 % project .

Today covid reporting gets a mere eight lines on page 5 under ” In brief”.

How times have changed and so has the media narrative that led to the enabling of such unprecedented draconianism.

If there is a review then the shocking role of the Media Pardy needs very careful scrutinising too.

      But she is right when she says the following:

      Or what about the two Wellington women who were given bereavement leave? Ashley Bloomfield said categorically they hadn’t met with anyone else on their trip – he stated it as fact. Turns out they had.
      
      Not good enough. Putting false information out to the public like this erodes trust in the government.
      
      It’s either sloppy or wilfully dishonest.
      
      Neither are attributes we want from a government.

Indeed, Hipkins publicly apologised to Charlotte Bellis reportedly after months of legal wrangling. No one should need to consult a lawyer over an honest mistake.   We are in the cycle of announcements about announcements regarding the review of the pandemic management so the QEII situation means the roll back of the traffic light system ie the marking of Jacindas victory over the virus, V day for the pandemic will have to be delayed to after the mourning period

If any of us are concerned about the current emerging racial separatism in our nation, just wait till the power- grabbing proponents of apartheid get stuck into the fine constitutional details of The Republic of Aotearoa.     Presumably “Tu Wehe Aotearoa” means something like:

  I don’t think there’s any chance the government will push to become a republic. The current strategy is co-governance by stealth ie to ram it through with no real debate, with no electoral mandate and the MSM ignoring the issue. As a republic the TOW is null and void and all our constitutional arrangements would need to be rewritten. That means the citizens of the country would have a say and on that basis co-governance would be dead.

How often have you thought “wouldn’t it be great if we had a competent, independent & vigorous media that could provide answers about this “? How often have you thought ” this so-called academic is a moron/party appointment/faux science specialist”?

It began with the Arab traders who approached the African tribal chiefs and for a fee asked the chief to choose the best and fittest of their tribe for sale. The then declared slaves were then transported by ship to distant countries. It should be noted that even today Arabs have scant regard for black Africans.

They were either selling their own, or selling those captured from other tribes. So when African Americans wail and whine about slaving in America, they should take a good, long hard look at how their ancestors actually ended up in America. How to drive your radical ideology through a nation

Two years ago I was job hunting. All adverts for Government work had the requirement, must subscribe to the principles of partnership under the TOW. Not being a believer in those principles meant that I automatically would not apply for those jobs. Therefore people being employed into our public service are agreeing to abide by this set of terms. In effect it means that the public service subscribe to an ideology that most NZers don’t agree with. A very effective way of getting the public service driving radical ideology not desired by the populous.

The Government has set this ideology in place now for the education system – so teachers are obligated to present this position to pupils. The indoctrination of our young people is now in full force.

The Public Interest Journalist fund makes this radical ideology a key component for the Media to access funding and for the journalists that are recruited via this funding. So our media has been bought into subscription to this radical ideology.

By making this radical ideology a tenant for participation in these systems it empowers the radicals, excludes and isolated those strongly opposed to the ideology. It has been an extremely clever piece of activism that the radicals have achieved without debate or democratic consent.

So the majority opposed to this radical ideology now sit outside the system. Watching in disbelief as a radical ideology becomes more and more entrenched into the structures, laws, and minds of the country.

The most powerful place for change is in our minds. The worldview we hold and the ideologies we subscribe to are internal, but the fruit they bear are all external. The mind is the battleground in life where the ideology that wins dictates the way the future plays out.

If ACT NATs come to power next year, do you think they are going to actively drive out this radical ideology? I truely hope that they would, but suspect they will engross themselves in economic management and miss that we need them to get the barbarians out of our laws, schools, media, public institutions and our minds.

  I commented last week about the number of world class discussion papers published by the Treasury from the mid 90s through to 2017. Now mostly stopped. My understanding is that from the mid 60s, Treasury sent many staff to top American universities to do post graduate work. These economists formed the backbone of thinking and advice for 30 years.
  
  I spoke to a retired Treasury official last year who had gone to MIT in the 1980s. He said all that has long gone.
  
  If you look at the Treasury website now most of the discussion documents are on the Treaty partnership and wellbeing.
  
  This should be of the greatest concern. It would take a new CE and at least a decade to turn it around.

    Like all government departments Treasury is working for and to the Government of the Day. That is a requirement of the Public Service rule of neutrality. That Treasury is producing the requested and desired product (economic or fiscal discussion papers on wellbeing and Treaty partnership) has no relationship to the individuals employed by Treasury, or their personal politics. You might find that the majority of staff who are Treasury economists personally don’t agree. However, their personal political views should be reserved for out of work hours.
    
    The Minister of Finance will, at the beginning of this Labour Government, have set out his policy priorities in a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury, as all Ministers with portfolios do. Treasury, like all other government departments, will then have been tasked accordingly.
    
    There will be 3-5 priorities in the prioritisation letter. Two of these you have listed above: “well-being” and “Treaty Partnership”.

Watch the media go into overdrive promoting and selling King Charles to us now.
He is a World Economic Forum senior advocate and “climate change” salesman to his eyeballs. There is no way Jacinda Ardern would move against him (move for us to become any sort of Republic) as they are both on the same team.
Only problem for Charles is we know him and his many flaws inside out now, and he is not a patch on his mother in any sense.
If Charles could read the room and had put self interest aside, he would have put William on the throne immediately, the English would embrace that modern upgrade, and the monarchy would have lifted to new heights.
This reign will be a train wreck (maybe the end of the commonwealth) and they have missed a huge opportunity.
RIP Queen Elizabeth.

  Charlie couldnt put William up instead of himself the Constitution forbids it. The path would be for Charlie to be crowned and then abdicate like Edward did in the mid 1930s. And there is no way after serving a 70 year plus apprenticeship Charlie was ever going to do that. If he lives as long as the Queen he has 22 years to reign. By then William will be 62 and have around 30 years if he lives to mid 90s. George will be around 60 at that time and have around 30 plus years. I doubt there will be a 70 year reign for a long long time. Thats the beauty about the Monarchy. Already we can see ahead for almost a century as to the future Kings. Cant do that with Presidents. You dont know when the next Trump will be along.

      Charles has been waiting a long time to get his hands on the finances. It has long been a bugbear that he was beholden to Mother for his income and it wasn’t able to sustain quite the jetsetting life he felt entitled too. No way Charlie is giving that up now.
      
      My impression is QEII believed it was her duty to serve the Office, her commonwealth, her people. Rather than it serve her.

  Not that we should give a stuff – Wills seems to be a nice enough chap who knows how to fly a chopper. We don’t know much else about him. Three kids and a wife who also seems pleasant enough. All because of who his parents were.

My partner’s mum is in her 80s. Her son is visiting from Australia. Just tested positive for COVID.

We explained the rules and that she was required to isolate and test. She said “Bugger that”. Got in her car to go shopping. 😳

I suspect she is indicative of compliance with the isolation rules.

Newshub understands 11 people were onboard at the time of the collision, and some of the occupants are dead.

It’s unclear how many people are dead or injured.

What is it with Somali refugees in New Zealand?

Today in Kàinga Ora land….

A few years ago a Somali refugee, her husband and three children arrive in New Zealand. They have a further three children. They get New Zealand citizenship and all eight move to Australia. The teenage kids cause chaos and the whole family is deported to New Zealand. The father goes awol.

So now this woman and her six kids is high priority for a State house. Family is given a six bedroom house. Teenagers destroy house. Family given replacement six bedroom house.

And as of today the woman has sponsored three family members to come from Somalia. She has given KO a heads up that they will also need a house. 😭

  IIRC, refugee migrants sponsorship comes with strings attached, one of which is that public sector assistance is not permitted for at least a couple of years, ie the sponsoring party is responsible for all costs for a period.

I’ve got a couple of grandchildren who love Peppa Pig which is a kids cartoon show featuring humanised animals.
I don’t personally understand the appeal of Peppa Pig, but evidently many little kids think it is so good that a general hush comes over the room here as soon as it appears on TV.
So today we learn that the PP cast of cute animals is going to be joined by a family of two polar bear Mums and their baby.
No comment about this aspect, but one of the young experts here asked if that meant there are gay animals?
Do polar bears have gay relationships in real life?
If not, why do they have them on Peppa Pig? –
was the question asked.
I said dunno and changed channel to Paw Patrol where one of the super pups was disabled and confined to a wheelchair.

  If animals are to be presented as humanized and confined to wheel chairs they might just as well be gay.
  Anyone who’s ever read stories to kids for at least the last hundred years would have come across plenty of books in which the characters are humans, or machines, masquerading as humans.
  Furthermore
  There are stories such as Cinderella, which I read to a couple of my grandchildren the other day that set kids an appalling example of how they should conduct their lives.

A 17-year-old driver on a learner’s licence who killed two women, leaving eight children motherless, cannot be sentenced to jail or even home detention.

He was transferred from Youth Court to the Dunedin Magistrate’s Court for sentencing, which entailed six months of “community detention”, two years of judicially monitored intensive supervision, and he was disqualified from driving for four years and ordered to pay $1000 to people injured in the crash, which occurred last October.

The sentence was limited because of the driver’s age, and because of the level of the charges.

The Otago Daily Times reports the driver had been tail-gating another car and crossed the centre line four times trying to overtake it. The crash occurred on his fifth attempt. The mothers killed, and two family members injured, were travelling from Queenstown to Dunedin for Labour Weekend.

The driver’s name was suppressed for a week on the ground of hardship to his family.

A new enquiry report into police photographing has been talked about in the media from the focus of maori and youth. But the issue goes further than that and the media hasn’t covered police photographs at marches and protests being taken

I attended my first protest which was not during a lockdown, where the freedom group legally marched from the domain to Aotea square – it was well organised and police conducted traffic duty so the protestors could cross the road. But as we came round the corner police could be seen sitting on the steps of the church and they took photos of the people marching with a long distance telephoto lens. This was shocking at the time.

The enquiry report says:

PROTESTS & LARGE GATHERINGS “The extent to which officers may take photographs at protests and other large gatherings is currently addressed by Police in the Unlawful Assembly and Riot policy and the Demonstrations policy.

The former allows photographs on the approval of the Operation Commander for investigative
purposes where the gathering reaches the threshold of a riot or unlawful assembly, both of
which are by definition unlawful. We see no need for any change to that policy.”

“The latter states that Police photographers should be deployed only on the authority of the
Operation Commander where the prevailing circumstances indicate “a probability of disorder”.
In contrast, officers we interviewed spoke of photographing protesters for more general
intelligence purposes – that is, to enable them to be identified for future events.
We think that the Demonstrations policy sets the bar for capturing demonstrators’ images too
high. We recommend that it should be revised to allow officers to photograph demonstrators
where they believe, based on some articulable facts, that there is a reasonable possibility of
disorder occurring and that the photographs may assist in providing evidence, identifying
suspects, protecting against unjustified complaints, or exerting a controlling influence on Police behaviour. We also recommend that the policy make clear that photographing demonstrators for no reason other than their presence in an otherwise lawful and peaceful demonstration, with the aim of identifying them in potential future demonstrations, is not a lawful Police purpose.”

So they definitely took our photos and they acknowledge it in the enquiry that they were generally taking photos of protestors. So what action will be taken. Will the police acknowledge whose photos they’ve taken. Will they apologise to protestors. Will the photographs be destroyed. What penalties for the police if they acted illegally. Who authorised it.

The media has only focused on the Maori youth aspect they didn’t mention the photographing of protestors for general intelligence in their news reports.
