In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, some scholars and others transformed the Aryans into a mythical “race” that they claimed was superior to other races. In Germany, the Nazis promoted this false notion that glorified the German people as members of the “Aryan race,” while denigrating Jews, Black people, and Roma and Sinti (Gypsies) as “non-Aryans.” [1]

“Denigrating Jews, Black people, and Roma and Sinti (Gypsies) as non-Aryans” was the thin edge of the wedge, the crime against humanity, ending in the utter horror of the Holocaust.
“Dehumanizing people through negative language” is obviously racism.

But the collateral action, that “promoted this false notion that glorified the German people as members of the ‘Aryan race’,” what was that called?

Does Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon have a word for that?

    Even some Iranians, such as the former Shah, seemed to have adopted the meaning broadened by German scholars from early in the 20th century. He told a (White) American oil executive: “You know we are the same race as you.”
    
    “Indo-European” is a distinct term, applied to languages that descend from that of a people of the Russian/Ukrainian Steppes. Its range covers most European languages except Finnish, Hungarian, and Estonian, then eastwards to Persian, Kurdish, and Hindi.

      Last night, I watched Andrew Bolt (SKY News Aust) ask Winston Peters what he thought about starting all this kind of stuff off by anointing Ardern.
      Winston must have used every word in the English Language to try to obfuscate the question but in the end, he suggested that NZers should be thankful his mob served as a Hand Brake on Ardern’s mob.

  The Maori Sports “policy” on Te Pati Maori’s website is not jus racist, it’s laughably false.
  
  Any time somebody prefaces something as “a known fact” you can be 100% sure it’s bullshit, and will have no evidence to support it. That’s certainly true for the claim that It is a known fact that Māori genetic makeup is stronger than others., especially when you understand that no Maori has 100% Maori “genetic makeup”.
  
  It gets worse – hilariously worse. The claim is also made, presumably with a straight face, that Māori invented many sports prior to European arrival. Running, Swimming, Fishing, Waka, Hunting, ……. to name a few.
  
  So there you go – nobody ever hunted before Maori invented it (probably thought it up on those long sea voyages back from discovering the South Pole and Antarctica).
  Nobody ever ran in a running race, despite there being evidence of sprint races at the very first Olympic Games in 776 BC, and nobody knew how to swim!

    If one of your eight great grandparents was pure Maori, would you only have 1/8th of this “stronger” Maori genetic makeup?

The words of that useless fool, Kelvin Davis, in the House and repeated outside it, are racist. They are clearly linked to being questioned about the use of public money being spent by a Charitable Trust for the private use of an individual. That, presumably, is part of the maori world. Well it isn’t part of the NZ that I want to be part of. When is NZ going to stand up and say we have had enough?

    That’s a pretty pointless thing to say since our genetic make up is somewhere over 90% the same as a sea sponge.
    
    There might not be races from a different species point of view, but there are clearly differences in local adaptations etc and various features.
    
    Yes, we are different. Some of us are better at some things than others. Let’s just look at competitive running.
    
    People from West Coast Africa are very dominant in short distance running and do poorly in long distance running. People from East Coast Africa dominate long distance running and generally perform poorly at short distance sprinting. They might have extremely similar genes, but they have adapted very differently and look very different too.
    
    Our biologists make a big fuss about Maui vs Hector’s dolphins, but the differences there are far less than between people.
    
    And, to repeat myself, I am not saying any one group of people is superior to any other group of people based on race or ethnicity (based on their behaviour is a completely different issue).

      I’ll just say that having the Maori Party claim that Maori are genetically superior to the rest of us is a very dangerous development. Why doesn’t that ‘race commissioner’ wade in? What is he there for?

    The genetics that rule out race as a concept are haplotypes.
    These markers are inherited from one parent only and rarely change.
    It was this study that showed different human ‘races’ had their characteristic looks based on environmental factors and people within those races were composed of various haplotypes from different migrations over history. Making the concept of race irrelevant.
    Or so I was told at a lecture from a world leading researcher on the topic

A recent study of more than 3000 people commented on by by Jerry Coyne this year on his website, Why Evolution is True, found that allele clusters associated by geneticists with racial groups matched the racial self-identification of all but 5 of the individuals studied, (IIRC.)       If taken at the extremes of phenotypic variation, you can postulate different races… European/Caucasian; Asian; African…
      
      No one would doubt that I am not a Caucasian-European.
      I’m white, blue-eyed, light brown haired, narrow-nosed, longish head, etc…
      But I am directly descended from generations of folks that were stuck out on a couple of small islands for 3-4000 years and had very little interchange with other groups of people.
      
      But what of my husband, with his yellow-brown skin, brown eyes of a narrow-slit shape, black hair, and short little legs?
      In fact… he’s quite a mix of Asian and Caucasian elements… but that’s what you get when you’ve got Mongolian, Tartar, and Greek forebears.
      
      When you have a gradation in the defining characters of a population between 2 extremes, you have a cline….. and that’s what we have in the Human species….. numerous clines..whereby much of the human population occupies some place on a continuum between one extreme and another, depending upon the characters you use to define the different Races.

    He comes out in support of poorly conceived assertions like the Police being racist against Maori for example.

If National and Act get to be the Government next year the first thing they should do is put TVNZ up for sale as the Government Identity has lost its way and are prepared to just except the lies and deciet that flow from our Prime Minister’s mouth on just about a daily occurrence.
How can you hold others to account when you see the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern laughing and lying about how she has all but fixed poverty and other problems that the National Party had left them when they were elected as the Government in 2017.
I really don’t mind if the facts are correct but I absolutely go off when people like Jacinda Ardern, Grant Robertson, Kelvin Davis and Willie Jackson laugh and demean others with there nasty snide comments when they themselves are the untruthful ones and the media we as taxpayers funds does not hold them to account for there blatant lies.

The furore around Kelvin Davis’s attack on Karen Chhour yesterday has hidden the implications of the very matter she raised…

“For how much money was the contract recently signed between OT and John Tamihere’s charity, and is the Minister reconsidering this contract in light of today’s revelation that his charities are under investigation for bankrolling John Tamihere and the Māori Party’s political campaigns for nearly half a million dollars?”

Have we seen state funding of political parties by stealth? Are Maori held to different standards that allows such conduct?

  We’ve really plumbed a new low in NZ when registered charities consider gifting and loaning money for a politician’s election campaigns as charitable purposes, as opposed to say feeding hungry kids or providing prosthetic limbs to amputees or homing battered wives.
  
  Especially so when the politician concerned IS AN ACTUAL SENIOR OFFICE HOLDER IN THE SAID CHARITIES!!!!
  
  I just can’t fucking believe that Tamihere thought this a good idea and went along with it, or worse, cooked up this idea himself.
  
  How this is not a complete misappropriation of charitable funds for personal gain and therefore fraud is completely beyond me.
  
  He’s appeared to use his charities’ funds as a personal piggy bank.

Her point is that governments cannot make progress on major issues such as climate change unless the public is prevented from hearing opposing views.

The comments on her speech in the YouTube video were not supportive of her point of view.

Will she argue next that any member of the UN who disagrees with her should not be allowed to speak at the UN meetings?

‘One New Zealand’ has been chosen as the company’s new name.
It retains the last three letters of the Vodafone brand – maintaining a degree of continuity – while also conveying a sense of social inclusiveness.

My partner reckons based on that criteria, they could have retained 6 letters and rebranded as….

Forget the blame game, Nordstream Sabotage is about the Great Reset & nothing else.

No matter the exact specific details of the situation, the Nordstream explosion was definitely an act of sabotage.

  There seems a massive disconnect within Europe. The MPs and citizens have bought into the climate change message yet the policies they implement are bizarre.
  
  Witness Belgium. 50% of their power is from 7 nuclear reactors. On Friday, while already facing an energy shortage, they decommissioned one of these (the rest to follow). The argument was that a law passed by the Greens many years ago forces reactors to be shut down after 40 years and that they had no other choice. Obviously this is utter BS as any government could find a law allowing an extension or create one. So even when facing massive economic damage to their country and potential deaths, they couldn’t pass a law to allow the reactor to run for another year?
  
  Lets not forget that Nuclear power plants are one of the best ways to produce baseline energy with extremely low carbon emissions, lower even then hydro. The same is happening all over Europe.

  Honestly the sooner the lights go out and folk in the northern hemisphere freeze the better. Because from where I sit, that is what it will take to achieve change. Losing heating in New Zealand is unpleasant. In many parts of the northern hemisphere it means death.

    Part of the issue seems to be the predilection on the left to not see or associate the results of policies with themselves. I am sure there are millions of greenies in the EU who would tell you right now that climate change is the most important thing and if some people must die, so be it. The needs of the many out way the needs of the few. These exact same people would be screaming blue murder if their own power was cut.
    
    I think this links to a general trend to higher incomes and better lifestyles (from capitalism). As people have become better off they increasingly more further left. Their wealth insulates them from the outcomes of their policies. So what if power prices go up 10x if you are a high earner. Sure its inconvenient but its not the end of the world.

        In Australia a place that gets to, say 45C is unlikely to go below, say, 5C. Therefore there is around 40C difference between min and max.
        
        In Canada there might be places that never go as high as 30C, but they will go to -40C. That’s 70C of difference.
        
        So the problem is almost twice as much in Canada and they’ve been welding tracks there for decades.

  Studies like this are annoying, as the correlation is not always clear.
  Someone who does weights likely gets cardio benefit, or may even do cardio in addition. And if really bothering to do these things, may have a better than average diet if really seeking to tone or bulk up.
  Because weights in themselves aren’t going to change much; you get stronger, and you might define muscle or gain muscle depending on the type of use.
  
  FYI – tore my calf muscle a few weeks back, and only given green light to return to running this week. I hate running actually but have an event in November that I need to train for. While I was unable to do running/stair runs/jump rope I have focused more on weights/squats/core/press ups etc.
  As of last week, dropped drinking to 1 day a week (touch wood), and looking at sugar and carb intake etc. etc.
  Point being, that ‘do you lift bro?’ {weights} is not really in itself significant, but there are probably all sorts of related behaviors if someone is doing it with a purpose.
  I expect I might even lose a couple kg, although that is not really the aim, and all this should (on paper) track towards a better health outcome.

  And too be perfectly honest to repair it should take bugger all.

    There was weird US anti-sub helicopter activity in the area in the week leading up to the explosions.
    
    The sabotage could easily be done by 2 people in a very small boat and I think most likely saboteurs are Ukraine – they have most to gain, 70m is divable for a scuba diver who is quick, and not even necessary – 100kg of readily available explosives with magnets for placement and a pre-set timer could simply be lowered on a rope from a small boat perhaps with a camera and light and off the shelf sonar for precise placement.

Attorney General rejected the bill saying “It presented an unjustified disadvantage to non-Māori and moved Rotorua away from proportional representation at its council”.
Rotorua District Council agreed to pause the bill in April 2022
It now at Select Committee – there appears to be no change to the bill – perhaps an effort to sneak it through.

A box full of genetically modified mosquitos successfully vaccinated a human against malaria in a trial funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

“We use the mosquitoes like they’re 1,000 small flying syringes,” said researcher Dr. Sean Murphy, as reported by NPR. Three to five “vaccinations” took place over 30-day intervals.

  The article avoids indicating the context of Kelvin’s deflective comments.
  This is, that half a million dollars was diverted from a charity into political coffers, and this ‘charity’ is partnered with the Crown – corruption around the charities finances as I see it, and excusing such behavior a ‘Maori thing’ like he seems to be implying is disgustingly patronising.
  
  I have to wonder if NZ still deserves its low corruption ranking on the international scale, and this sort of behaviour is recently creeping in and seemingly treated as ‘culture’ (rather, it is pure arrogance and cheek by certain Maori who are leading with poor example).

    The only way you can know that is if you were privy to the conversation between Davis and Chhour; is that what you’re stating? Anything else is speculation.
    
    In the same way the somewhat disingenuous $1uffed writer sprinkled deflections and most unlikely scenarios. For example, he offers first a deflection and – straight after that – told a falsehood.
    
    1. “Davis told Ardern early on Thursday to let her know he would apologise, and that she agreed he should.” So he attempts to establish that Davis had definitely already agreed to apologise anyway, and had even told the PM, who agreed with the decision. How could he possibly know when David had told Ardern, or even if he had? Unless he was privy to the conversation, he could only go by what he was told – which is fair enough. But you have to do one of two things – seek evidence that the call happened, and at what time, or simply write: “I was advised by the Prime Minister’s office that the call was made early on Thursday morning, but have not sighted any evidence to prove that or otherwise.
    
    2. “A few minutes before Davis called Chhour, ACT deputy leader Brooke van Velden wrote to the prime minister’s office, asking for an apology to Chhour. Davis was not aware of the letter when he called.”
    
    How could a journalist possibly know what Kelvin Davis knew or didn’t know, or became aware of or did not become aware of? Kelvin can barely keep track himself, bless him. The journalist could only legitimately say that “he had been told that Davis was unaware of it, and you are seeking evidence that would show that, such as when the PM’s office received van Velden’s message and when Davis last spoke to the PM. All this is discoverable, of course.
    
    The writer also implies something was posted or couriered or received in some hard copy form – the article references a “letter” but even if it was on letterhead it would have either been delivered by hand, or (much more likely) e-mailed, possibly in .pdf form, already printed, as an attachment.
    
    The article is otherwise mostly well-balanced and good reading. A shame the true colours slipped out – unless my favourite Hanlon’s Razor is in play.

It is normal that the host Country get to formally approve and agree to such postings.
Now a professional from London has the Washington appointment, despite it being familair that Goff was to get it, may we assume that Goff will get approval from the UK to that HC posting ?

    Eviation Alice with 460km range is in flight test (Auckland to Wellington is 490, Wellington to Christchurch is 305km). Quite a lot of regional routes that could be serviced, and operational costs should be lower than inefficient and expensive small turboprops.

  The Stuff article said that the ferry lost propulsion. That could be due to a number of possible factors such as mechanical. I very much doubt that they ran out of battery power in the middle of a trip.

Economic mayhem continues in London, with the central bank, the Bank of England, spending 65 billion pounds (about $NZ124 billion) to prop up pension funds.

It bought Government bonds, whose price has been diving, hit by a looming surge in interest rates.

The central bank warned of a “material risk to UK financial stability” as pension funds quit assets. Billions of pounds were wiped off the sharemarket value of big pension funds.

The Telegraph reports Lord Clarke, British Chancellor (Finance Minister) under John Major, told a TV interviewer today (NZ time): “I’ve never known a Budget cause a financial crisis like this, and I think the Government and the Bank of England are still going to have to act to calm it down and get us back to normality.”

Meanwhile in NZ, the Interest-Dot-Co web site raises the possibility of NZ’s Reserve Bank buying Kiwi dollars to prop up our currency against the soaring US dollar.

Then an interviewee shoots down this possibility.

Kiwibank’s chief economist, Jarrod Kerr, is reported:

“It’s a lot easier to sell your currency because you can print as much of it as you like and sell it to get it down. It’s much harder to prop up your currency because you have to use your foreign reserves to do so, and my understanding is we don’t have much in the way of foreign reserves, probably about $10 billion.”
