WOW…..if that was not a cricketing lesson dealt to Australia then I don’t know what is!
Hope NZ don’t meet them in the final though, lightening rarely strikes twice in the same competition.

  It was a spanking and a half. The in-laws are staying, and we all roared with delight when David Warner attempted to slog-sweep Tim Southee’s first ball, but only managed to hit it into the ground, bouncing up to his thigh then ballooning away to collide with the back of the bat before hitting the wicket. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer Australian!
  
  And how good is Devon Conway, in all forms of cricket? As for Glenn Phillips’acrobatic outfield catch, if there’s to be a better catch in the tournament, it will have to be an absolute belter.

  Why didn’t the greatly admired (by the Aussie commentators) Glenn Maxwell, just play ordinary cricket shots?
  He seemed obsessed with turning cartwheels to achieve beach cricket hits.
  He looked a right knob doing it. Sure, one or two came off and scored some runs, but it was like he was a spider caught in a web and couldn’t get out.

    Nothing strange about it, he’s a complete knob, or bell-end as the Brits so beautifully put it. Calls himself The Big Show, but I think The Big No-Show is more apt.
    
    I’ll remember to my dying day the pool match against Australia at Eden Park in the 2015 ODI World cup. As we looked like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory he was in front of us in the outfield with his hands round his own throat, suggesting we were choking. Nek minute (literally, next ball) Kane smacked them into the stands for 6 and we had the W. He looked suitably sheepish.

Some thoughts on the housing sector now that some opposition housing policies are emerging.

The housing market is a huge and complex beast. Much more complex in the last few years mainly due to government actions, large and small. And in a trillion dollar plus sector government actions can have massive financial impacts – on the market, on demographics, on rents, on capital gains, on supply, on demand. On taxpayers.

Governments should consider carefully the impacts of their policies on housing. And taxpayers. And make sure they have their arms around the sector.

For example, some data –

* Transitional (emergency) housing places – Sep 2017 – 1,663; July 2022 – 5,640. And increasing every month.

* Social housing register Sep 2017 – 5,844 August 2022 – 26,030.

* Trademe homes for sale have doubled in the last year. Some prob government covid decisions, including borders, some not.

* Meanwhile Trademe rental vacancy ads over same period has nowhere near doubled – about 25% up.

  Perhaps someone cleverer than me could sketch out an explanation of how this might

    The economics of residential rentals don’t stack up. To be fair, they haven’t for a while and it can be seen in the demand for commercial rental investments. Interest deductions still apply. With the rise in interest rates, getting taxed on interest costs puts people off investing in residential real estate.
    A number of houses have gone from the rental market due to healthy homes, because it was not possible or not economical to spend $20k plus on upgrading the house. There 8s also only one person who pays and that is the tenant so rents increase. When I was younger and broke, I would have preferred cheaper rent in an old danger of a house. That is no longer an option.
    Yes, some slumlords took the pee, but the government were warned of the consequences of the feelgood laws, and they have come to pass.

  I saw a photo of the woman’s rugby World Cup in the paper last week and thought it looked like there was bigger all people at the ground watching the match, so went to YouTube to look up a game, bugger all people there.     Lang Hancock suggested sterilizing Aborigines so they would die out and, understandably, Donnell Wallem who is an indigenous Australian didn’t want to wear the Hancock logo on her uniform.

  And FIFA has reportedly rejected the offers, which were around 1% of the money paid for the (proper) FIFA World Cup. Silly old duffers – haven’t they heard of “first offer, best offer”? If I was pitching for the rights I’d come back with 10% less and tell them they can keep rejecting the offers but they won’t be getting any bigger.
  
  Those frequenting the impossibly wet/woke BBC Sport app and website will have noticed the relentless pushing of equal space to women’s versions of men’s sports, the impossible hyping of “world record crowds” such as the one touted for the opening day of the WRWC which in reality turned out to be about a half-full Eden Park for the showpiece game. Hyping women’s sport up can’t disguise the fact that interest is a fraction of that for sport played to its very highest level.

  BY – anywhere that she appeared on online media, particularly Youtube over the last couple of years it has been the same. During the height of the covid circus, Stuff and NZ Herald had to turn comments off on their live streams from the podium of truth. The comments were not kind at all.
  
  It makes me wonder about this belief that she still has a strong support base. If she is still preferred leader by 30% of the population then surely 30% of the comments would be defending her? Apparently not!

    The unwelcome reality is that 30 percent of voters still think the Princess is covered in fairy dust…
    
    I encountered a middle aged kiwi couple up here in Tonga the other day: she proudly said she was almost the only person on the plane wearing a mask “because planes are where you catch Covid”. That led to a discussion of Ardern – while the guy couldn’t stand her, the missus still thinks she’s wonderful. there are many like her – more females than males I suspect.

I see the Australian netball team is learning what commercial sponsorship means. They had a $15M 4 year deal with a mining company. The team in virtue signalling action decided they didn’t want their logo on their uniform. So the sponsorship was stopped. Reinhart makes hardnosed look like softies.
No doubt we will soon hear stories about how they are broke, the team is having to go back to real jobs, and it is prejudice against woman’s sport.
Well, hello, This is the quid pro quo of sponsorship. If you want to be professional, act like it.

  Australia Netball has a lot to answer for. They admit they didn’t consult or even advise the players, and now appear to be apologetic.
  
  It might have helped if they had consulted, but more likely the players would have thought, they’ve asked us so we can say no. What they should have done is explain the economic imperatives, that they had a well-funded and willing sponsor who was prepared to step up, and that this was a good thing – without that $15m sponsorship they were losing $7m a year.
  
  Apparently the concern is something to do with something that Rinehart’s father said 40 years ago, and has been condemned by Rinehart as “virtue-signalling” – what’s that saying again? Yes, that’s it – get woke, go broke. Sad!

  True. I am amazed at how people mess up scrambled eggs. Even in cafes. You will have seen it. Puts too much milk in. Eggs turn into little marble like pieces in a watery fluid on the plate. And to cap it off said liquid makes your toast soggy.

    Poached eggs are easy. Bring pot of water to the simmer, add a splash of white vinegar. Add eggs one at a time, and gently slosh water over them as they cook if they are peeking out of the water. Best in a pot rather than a pan. Perfect every time.
    
    I’ve tried everything before this, the glad wrap method, the whirlpool and others I can’t recall.

    Most of us don’t have access to really fresh eggs…best for a perfect poached egg.
    
    Most of us are too lazy to ensure that the eggs are at room temp before poaching.
    
    So if you’re going to use a less- than- fresh egg straight from the fridge, use a fairly deep saucepan of gently boiling water (simmering) to which you have added 1 tablspn vinegar (helps to coagulate the wispy white), and poach for 3min (or thereabouts).
    
    Remove poached egg gently with a slotted spoon.
    
    Personally, I find making poached eggs for more than 1 person to be a hassle…. so if there’s a full house for brunch, it’s omelette, scramblers or a quiche.

  If you can’t master poached, or scrambled or an omelette then you’re not a cook or chef. All 3 are basic and all it takes is practice which I thought a good chef etc would have. There’s not alot of recipes that don’t need eggs.

      Commercial vessels are not built to cheap construction standards, they are built to the classification society rules. At least the larger ones. Some naval vessels are also built to these rules. The class rules take into account the purpose of a ship and her proposed future operational pattern(s).
      
      But the class rules have no influence on how the vessels are actually used in their operational life. If a vessel came back from the Sub Antarctic waters with her superstructure severely stowed in it means that she was either not built for operations in these waters or was not operated in accordance with the principles of good seamanship.
      
      The RNZN offshore patrol vessels were not exactly built for the Southern waters. Or for any waters for that matter but that’s another story. Perhaps Wayne Mapps could comment on that as he was the Minister of Defence at the time these ships were commissioned.

Who remembers Julie Anne Genter and her statement of to many deaths on our roads in 2017 and the Government’s catch phrase of “The Race to Zero”in their attempt to lower it.
Well it seems we have had another failure by this rotten Government with the race to zero set to be another of this Government and the Green Parties distant dreams with 3 deaths on our roads already this Labour weekend.
New Zealand has one of it’s highest road tolls in more than a decade with 296 deaths as of October 20th with the tally being similar to October 2018 number.
The 2017 and 2018 totals being the worst since 2009.

    It is a failure Ghost. There are a lot of actions they could have taken – the potholes and scabbing road sealing are two of the biggest ones. There have been significant numbers of accidents and caused by those. That was a direct government failure as they cut funding for them. The cycle bridge fiasco would have paved 100km or so of highway.
    Then there was cutting of the project on widening the Katikati Tauranga. That in itself is probably 10 deaths. Same with Cambridge to Tirau widening. Even more deaths.
    Then there was the government policy to cut back on vehicle driver/ vehicles checks. It picked up a lot of Maori and PIs, which meant it had to go. Look how many fatals are unlicensed drivers in un-roadworthy vehicles. So yet another cause of road toll increase.
    All the Minister does is bleat it was National’s fault and wring his hands.

  That is a bad sign. Agencies given Maori names seem to go to pieces. Kàinga Ora and Waka Kotahi come to mind.
  
  The other thing is that before it was wrecked, “Reserve Bank of New Zealand” had international recognition. The Maori language does not fly internationally. Kàinga Ora issues bonds to overseas investors. They are snapped up because investors know that the government will not let it fail. They are issued under a subsidiary “Housing New Zealand Limited”.   What’s the bet Kinga-Ora buys up some Units in the Winton development and moves their problem people from Rotorua Motels into them?
  As for Carless and Solar Panel Villages, such developments must have a death wish. Nobody in their right mind would want to buy into them. This Green anti-everything rort won’t last much longer because Akld and a few other places now have Mayors and Councilors who view the whole fiasco as the scam it is.

I really hope NZ politicians (and former politicians) “wake up” about the threat of the worsening authoritarian CCP and call them out.

Then to make matters worse, prepare for disruptions as the CCP prepares to go on the offensive with Taiwan eg disruptions to NZ-China commerce (exports and imports) and disruptions to our energy supply chain (as we source alot of energy such as oil from SE Asia – expect blockades and no-go zones).

So what is the Labour Govt doing? So far SFA as they kick a defence policy review down the road for 2 years before they report back (the Australians sense the urgency and are only taking around 6 months for their defence review). It will be too late by then. For crying out loud Jacinda Ardern, Grant Robertson and Peni Henare, get our military armed properly (eg our martime patrol aircraft don’t even carry missiles for long-range deterrence) and increase logistical supply so we can move around the South Pacific unhindered to protect our wider Pacific family.

And for goodness sake follow the Australian examples of increasing energy resilience, refining and storage. Otherwise NZ’ers could starve (or riot) if the farming and transport industry doesn’t have the fuels and lubricants to harvest food for distribution! Wake up Labour (and National and ACT speak up too)!

  So, now NZ has total reliance on imported fuels.
  Who can tell me that closing it was a bright idea?
  Maybe it is parked for the Chinese to fire it up again? At some later stage?
  Anyone recall the damaged single supply pipeline from mid Marsden Point to Sth Akld Sept 2017? The one that winnie promised to duplicate with another pipeline so NZ wouldn’t have that problem again. That never happened did it?

  A third of our trade goes to China. The EU, UK don’t want anymore of our farming output.
  If China knocks our exports on the head it’ll be far more than a puny Groundswell protest in the streets.

Worth a viewing; why the the trajectory that the hubristically insane net zero and build back better political global elites have planned is entirely unworkable – we are orders of magnitude short of having enough mining output in all sorts of things (including, critically, copper) to make it possible. These airheaded and ignorant green-infused elites ignore even basic issues and are incredibly far short of the cautious sophisticated understanding required to tweak global systems, let alone understand how delicate the global supply chain that they are working to wreck is.

On the news tonight… Maori women get paid 81c for every $1.00 a white man makes. Something of course must be done!

Ridiculously, this doesn’t account for the difference in educational levels or job type.

When will people admit, maori kids stuff around at school, if they attend at all. This explains part of the difference in earnings.

Jordan Peterson explains it pretty well — the best thing a woman can do is to take a course in assertiveness. It really works.
