Apologies for being a month late with this post – ironically because I was struck down with Covid and couldn’t do much for about 3 weeks!

I was just wondering if there are, like me, any fellow ‘The Platform’ listeners here who started out with high hopes for this alternative to MSM, but have grown utterly sick of the ongoing denigration of anyone who opposes the Covid vaccines?

I was prepared to forgive Sean Plunket’s ‘blind-spot’ on allowing any challenge to the government’s ‘safe and effective’ mantra, as I’ve enjoyed a lot of his other work, but it’s got to the point I’ve just switched off now. The final straw for me was Sean’s interview with Prof Des Gorman:

A very interesting interview up until the point that Sean felt the need to put the boot into ‘anti-vaxxers’, referring to them as “idiots” (11:00) and that you must be “wilfully blind and had half a brain” (11:23) if you believed the government misled us by selling the vaccine on the basis that it reduced transmission.

And this is just after Prof Gorman stated “we haven’t dealt with a vaccine before that’s job quickly evolved from preventing a disease to modifying a disease” (10:20), effectively acknowledging it wasn’t quite what we were sold.

Prof Gorman goes on to give Sean what he’s digging for, claiming “anti-vaxxers” are “faith-based” and engage in “confirmation bias” (without actually recognising it in themselves).

And after castigating the Governments Covid response and its infringements on our human rights (“we tolerated a surrender of our human rights in a way I think is shameful” (7:07)), Prof Gorman then goes on to say “I believe vaccination should bring some privilege” (15.25)! The cognitive dissonance is astounding!

In another example, Sean Plunkett, interviewing Leighton Baker, is quick to shut down Leighton’s claim of meeting vaccine-injured people at the parliament protests:

I stopped listening to Michael Laws a while ago – after his attack on Guy Hatchard (listen at 1:45 mark):

Guy Hatchard responded on his website (https://hatchardreport.com/what-should-matter-in-journalism/), but I don’t believe Laws ever ended up giving Hatchard the right of reply to debate the data – he just chose to malign him.

Anyway, I gave up on ‘The Platform’ about a month and haven’t listened since. Maybe I’ll come back in the future if they get some other hosts on who are actually prepared to engage in debate, or give Rodney Hide a regular slot. But terribly disappointing what ‘The Platform’ has become after such high hopes early on.

  I would agree re Plunket and Covid- however on other topics like 3/5 waters the Platform has done some great interviews- see Tina Nixon, Stephen Franks etc- not many other media outlets are at least discussing the “takeover.”

    Over the next 6 months 60% of fixed term mortgages will renew. The interest component the largest of most mortgages will double. This will stress many already stressed households although banks have been stress testing at 6%/7% for some time now and will offer assistance to avoid foreclosures.
    However the mortgage holders will be very angry and as always the Government will pay the price.
    
    I predict that by May/June the Nats/Act will be nudging 50% with Labour/Greens/Maori in the low to mid 40%. Not so sure about NZF. If Winston does his usual and attacks Maori centric policies he could be nudging 5%.
    Whatever next years going to be popcorn time for us political junkies.

      An alternative is the banks are kind and take up Jacinda’s offer to protect their social licence E.g. by offering a 1 year reduction of principal payments via an x year extension to the mortgage.
      
      Net result is banks don’t lose interest income, minimises the repayment hit until after the election, homeowners kick the can down the road to say a 30 or 35 term. Even 50 year terms for Maori based, decolonisation intergenerational homes (on public property at peppercorn leases).
      
      Importantly Jacinda gets a 3rd term…that is all she wants to lock in co-governance forever.
      
      This is just an example hyperthetical dirty play that could happen before 2023 under the guise of cost of living crises response.

    So what is this Maori World View I hear so much about. How does it differ from the New Zealand European World View. And how do peoples whose ancestry is predominately New Zealand European reconcile these differences with their very small Maori ancestry.

  Well documented. Thanks, 2ic. I’ve also switched off to The Platform largely as a result of Plunket’s seemingly reverent attitude to the Covid/Vaxx narrative. Very disappointing. Perhaps The Platform’s funding is dependent on towing the line.

  I love The Platform, particularly Sean’s show – Sean has really interesting guests who discuss issues that mainstream media avoid like the plaque. Have just listened to Dr Michael Bassett talking about 3/5 Waters. Rodney was great but sadly every time he was on all he talked about was covid, and I turned off. I am totally bored with covid and don’t want to hear it talked about again until the government has independent inquiry into their handling of the pandemic – til that happens lets just move on and enjoy Sean’s fabulous guests that he has on every day. Michael can be a bit irritating but he doesn’t irritate me nearly as much as the hosts on Mainstream radio

    NZers freedom restricted – right to move , associate with others etc
    
    Agree need an enquiry, but I doubt a full substantive accountable enquiry will ever be conducted.

    How when within NZ society people still lost jobs,income, status and NZ divided between people who made a choice counter to others?
    
    Move me by telling me a compelling reason why family members suffered by being refused to see lived ones dying during this time?

  The Platform is Plunket’s ‘baby’ (if it’s not, I’ll stand corrected). Most people I meet seem to have agreed to disagree about the vax and have moved on.
  I had an Irish stepfather who once he had made up his mind was absolutely unable to ever change his opinion or tolerate any discussion which was different to his own. As a result, he became a lonely and bitter man because people avoided him – even his family.
  I see Sean Plunket going down the same track. It’s a shame because he used to be quite entertaining in a homeboy sort of way.
  For what it’s worth, I heard Marcus Lush lash out about ‘antivaxxers’ a few weeks ago – a similar rant but not quite as nasty as Plunket’s.

    There is no “agree to disagree” re the vaccines and the attacks on innocent people. It was all wrong on every level. As for “moving on”. Sure, once we’ve had the adult conversations and discussions that are needed to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
    I too have “friends” who want to “move on” and don’t want to discuss covid. Particularly the bit that allowed them to accept as normal the fact that myself and my family weren’t allowed to participate in normal society and had to wait in car parks in the winter to be seen by a doctor. They definitely don’t want to talk about any of that. That’s OK but until we do have those conversations out friendship will continue to be polite but strained.
    Unlike your stepfather I won’t be bitter about it, but I will have learned a valuable lesson about the moral fortitude (or lack of) of those concerned. A valuable lesson.
    
    Don’t insult those physically, financially and mentally attacked and damaged by the actions of this government and some members of the public by blithely telling them to “move on”. Just don’t.

        Just made an appointment with a nurse to get a typhoid vaccination for travel to SE Asia.
        
        Still have to wear a mask to go in. Any cold-like symptoms and it’s a “stay away”.

        I always laugh at the mask rules in my GP clinic, have to wear a mask in there but the moment I’m in my gp’s office we both take them off. I had a terrible flu a month ago, put me in bed for a week, he didn’t care about it, went in no problems. I hear reception asking when people ring up if they have any symptoms but I’m never asked. But the joke is a few times I’ve been there are one of the receptionists are coughing their guts out.

        ZK, I sacked my GP after he insisted there was medical justification for wearing a mask on an 15hr flight, whereupon he refused provide an exemption letter. Absolute plonker, but at least he was honest enough to admit he’d read no (yes zero!) papers on the topic of mask efficacy.

        Ghost – we weren’t vaccinated so weren’t allowed inside. The doctor would come out to the car in full PPE. Talk about derogatory and demeaning.
        My wife was declined medical treatment because she wasn’t wearing a mask, even though she had an official government exemption card.
        Where you out of the country the last 2 years?

    I was enjoying the interview too – up to a point. However, Prof Gorman seems to hold incongruous positions on vaccination and our human rights, as I detailed in my original post. He says “we haven’t dealt with a vaccine before that’s job quickly evolved from preventing a disease to modifying a disease”, which is really double-speak for saying it didn’t work for preventing infection and transmission as we expected, so the narrative changed to reducing severity of illness. To say that the vaccine’s “job quickly evolved” is nonsense – it was the narrative that “quickly evolved”.
    
    Then, just after criticising the infringements of our human right in the Covid response, in the next breath Prof Gorman is saying “I believe vaccination should bring some privilege”. So human rights are so important for the unvaccinated, even though he’s acknowledged that the vaccine didn’t work at preventing infection or transmission.

      Is this suggesting that the vaccinations changed the disease to make it less dangerous and that the vaccines, at least in part, were produced with this benefit in mind.
      Was he saying, that in order to reduced the affects of infection in future, the vaccines allowed the virus to bypass their immunity systems.

    I didn’t say anything about having to agree with the hosts. I’m just saying I’m not going to engage with a platform that doesn’t allow open debate or give those they subject to criticism the right of reply. In particular as they market themselves as a free speech platform.
    
    Michael Laws called Guy Hatchard a “madman”, but refused to give Hatchard an interview to debate the issues.
    
    Sean Plunket continually denigrates “anti-vaxxers”, while refusing to, for example, interview Dr Matt Shelton from NZDSOS. NZDSOS have to resort to releasing their own video to exercise their right of reply to the interview Sean had with Government vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris:

  Yes 2ic, totally agree. I was promoting The Platform and the concept of “your opinion matters” and “join the resistance” very strongly and whilst they are quite good at airing and debating some issues which the MSM will not touch within the NZ political climate, their attitude towards the so called (incorrectly called) Anti-Vaxxers has been nothing short of obscene. Ironic considering Plunket himself suffered a heart attack after being assured by panic merchant Michael Baker that he should have his booster.
  Also the assumption by Laws that the UN and other globalism elitist organisations are trying to save the world, because the agenda 2030 says so in its objectives, rather than looking into their actions astounds me.
  I suspect they don’t have the time or the will to do their own research into the critical and chilling subjects.
  Love the sports section as Martin Devlin is very good at his trade, Rodney Hide was great, Neil Oliver is an asset but they need to listen to his views on Covid, man made climate change and Globalism.
  I don’t listen live anymore (except sometimes sports) and pick my pods and opinion articles of interest.
  It is a shame as The Platform was making up a lot of ground that had been lost in NZ media, but instead of embracing debate on some issues they shut it down with the similar abuse that is consistent in the MSM.

    Triggered? Not really – just exercising my choices as a consumer. What would be weird is continuing to tune in to someone who refers to me as a “nutter” on almost a daily basis for making an informed decision not to take the Covid-19 vaccine.
    
    But I’m glad you brought up Prof Gorman’s other clanger in that interview – that anyone who has decided not to get the Covid-19 vaccine is “faith-based”.
    
    That’s just a lazy, throw-away line that flies in the face of all the data and studies that I sifted through over months before deciding not to take the Pfizer vaccine. And as you accuse me of being “faith-based”, here is an example from a post of mine back in March where I use Medsafe’s own data to show how dangerous the Pfizer vaccine is compared to the traditional influenza vaccine:

      There must be a better collective noun to cover the situation

      Of course Des was responding to the hosts rant to try and explain why Pfizer skeptics, for many were radically and loudly shouting down the use of a vax. Ie nothing would change their minds because their opinion was faith based/confirmation bias.
      
      I see that(faith based) almost every day, whether it be about use of Maori language, speed limits, political allegiances(ie labour/National) etc etc

        For a faith to be reasonable you need some facts. Facts and faith are not necessarily diametrically opposed.
        
        In fact a faith requires doubts, reason requires questioning.
        
        A faith devoid of any logic is like logic devoid of any questions.
        
        Rationality requires faith and faith requires reasons. Otherwise something may not be worth believing or worth thinking.
        
        Naturally there are false beliefs and false faiths, that just stands to reason.

  I listen to The Platform. I can’t listen to mainstream media anymore. So, while it’s not perfect, it’s been incredibly interesting to hear the change in opinion from both Sean & Michael (more Michael than Sean, actually) on various topics. Michael Laws is actually, really trying. Sean has been fantastic on free speech in general terms, and how terrible having a disinformation project is. And every once in while, Paul Brennan does a show, and he is right on board the “anti-vax nutter” train that must drive Sean completely crazy. He occasionally trolls Sean as well, with his promos!

A few days ago we were informed in the Media that our Finance Minister Grant Robertson with some creative accounting and authority from Cabinet had borrowed more money for Kainga Ora in fact 2.75 billion.
This loan coming after the Housing Minister Megan Woods was warned that what had already been borrowed would take more than 60years to be repayed and leave future Generations with more debt than what the Country can afford.

While we all know the opposition Leader has made mistakes how can you compere his stupidity with Grant Robertson borrowing when he has already been warned about how much debt he is leaving future generations that will take more than 60 years to be relayed.

Remember Labour’s allegation that there was “sewage running down the walls” at Middlemore Hospital? Turns out it was something of an urban mythg, but that hasn’t stopped Labour MP’s, especially current Health Minister Andrew Little trotting the allegation out from time to time to attack National for “nine years of neglect”.

Now it seems Labour is not without its own problems with hospitals and water:

Canterbury health authorities have apologised after dozens of mental health inpatients were left without flushing toilets, and were made to use camping showers.

Repair work on underground water pipes at Princess Margaret Hospital in Christchurch began on Tuesday, Te Whatu Ora said, meaning there was no longer any drinkable mains water on the site.

The leaky water pipes meant patients had to rely on bottled water, portaloos, portable showers and sterile wipes while repairs were completed over several days.

Te Whatu Ora Specialist Mental Health Services manager Dr Greg Hamilton apologised to patients and whānau for the inconvenience caused due to the repairs.

Simon Watts may well be a good banker and might make a good minister, but he is a completely inappropriate person to have fronting this key election issue. You can’t tell me that National are opposing this strongly it’s just that the MSM won’t report them. Sean Plunkett gave Watts every opportunity and he side-stepped! I have listed to a couple of interviews with Watts, and I am not sure whether Tipa Mahuta stays on as head of Taumata Arowai under National. National ought to be screaming the house down!
This 5 waters legislation is a major constitutional change and will most likely be law before Xmas. The issue that resonates with me and I assume many others is the transfer of effective control of water in New Zealand to those Maori groups that can present themselves as Mana Whenua. These Maori elite will be able to issue Te Mana o te wai statements that MUST be given effect by the soon to be set up water services entities. That this fundamental change is slipping through under urgency and with little public scrutiny is an affront to the very democracy that Labour’s He Puapua plan seeks to undermine.
Where is the outrage at the attack on democracy? Where is the outrage at the blatant nepotism and tribal appointments? In contrast, Simon Court from ACT was much better. If ACT can do this with their paucity of MPs and resources, National should hang their heads in shame.

    The other fundamental change that has rather slipped through under the radar is the Courts acknowledgement of Maori tikanga that Stephen Franks explains in his interview linked above.
    This arose during the review of the Ellis case. Basically the court has found a whole new source of law that has purportedly existed since prior to 1840. One major issue is that it is at odds with some of the fundamental principles of Western law. Tikanga is not defined – in essence it is whatever Maori say it is, perhaps after the fact.
    I guess we had better hope that pre 1840 Maori society was the well run South Pacific Utopia it is portrayed as, because we seem to be abandoning the colonialist system of government in favour of setting up rule by the Maori elites.

My partner did some quick calculations during breakfast on the back of his napkin.

He reckons that if someone is found guilty of let’s say GBH…. then receives discounts for their ethnicity, appalling upbringing, drug abuse, fetal alcohol syndrome and the effects of colonisation, a sentence of 14 years imprisonment could well end up being reduced to playing a round of golf with the judge.

The development led by local iwi Ngāti Kahungunu will be in one of the city’s lowest-lying areas.

For those who are unaware, Simmonds is the MP for Invercargill, and for 23 years before coming into Parliament in 2020 was the CEO of Southland Institute of Technology, arguably the most successful tertiary provider in the country:

Penny Simmonds ripped into Chris Hipkins over the botched Te Pukenga reform of the vocational education sector. In particular though, she alleges the financial projections used by Hipkins to justify the merger of successful providers like SIT with less successful ones were “manufactured” to fit Hipkins’ centralisation agenda. Te Pukenga was based on a lie.

It will be interesting to see if any media pick up on this, given that Simmonds is well known and respected in the tertiary sector, and I have little doubt her sources will be 100% accurate.

Bros of the Banana Republic of New Zealand – A worrying trend is emerging. The latest round of polls – Roy Morgan and the leaked Talbot-Mills poll yesterday have some bad indicators for National-ACT. According to these polls:

1. NAT-ACT cannot form government on their own any more
2. Maori party is the King/Queen maker and we know who Maori party will go with
3. Winston First party is dangerously close to the 5% threshold and we all know who Winnie will go with
4. National and Luxon are stuck at the same position for ever without breaking free
5. Even with ACT holding steady or improving, due to National’s stagnation, NAT-ACT government is looking unlikely after every poll now
6. Greens are marching ahead and could end up with 12-15 MPs and get key ministries under a weak Labour government. That means taxes right, left and center for everybody

This shows the IQ level of the sheeple in this country. They will never learn. A Labour-Green-NZ First-Maori government will ruin NZ beyond repair.

  Certainly not great at present but the political scene in NZ is extremely hard to poll or predict at present, 7 percent undecided, Democracy NZ yet to be included, Co Governance not really understood by majority of NZ public, MSM attacking National/Luxon and glorifying Labour/Jacinda at every opportunity.
  Once a bit more time has passed, inflation will be set in, mortgages being refinanced at 7%, mortgagee sales, negative equity, and eventually job security concerns will see further loss in popularity for the Green/Labour/Maori ticket. Hopefully!

  When I suggested 12 months ago that the Maori party was set up to be in the “Winston” position, I was laughed at and “downticked” – don’t know why as it seemed obvious.
  This can only happen if Labour “gives” them a seat ala the ACT party arrangement in Remuera -which they will do.
  If the Maori party is in this spot after the votes are counted, & they then go to Labour and suggest they may go with National after careful consideration, how much do you think Labour will offer them not to? Hint – anything they want!
  It’s how the game is played.
  We need to party vote ACT to get the “right” over the line and also keep woke National in check.

    I’ll go along with the electronic monitoring and supervision but Military Academies, no way.
    This is not only an insult to those who choose to make the Military their career, but it’s an imposition placed on the Military for which they’re ill-equipped to handle. Where are these Military Academies anyway?
    When I was in the Military, there were ‘Limited Service Volunteers’ who volunteered and were unemployed. From memory, the Military reserved the right to offer the top 10% Military Employment and this seemed to work well. I think it’s still ongoing.
    However, throwing the dregs of society into a Military Academy is vastly different and Military Training is not what many perceive to be what was commonly known and shown in film as ‘Boot Camp’ (an Americanism).
    The Military is there to protect NZ, not try and solve Political and Judicial problems that are largely of their own (Pollies & Judges) making.

Associate Minister for the Environment Phil Twyford announced on Thursday he had appointed mediator John Hardie to “understand the issues with housing intensification” in the city.

14 years old, damn.

A 14-year-old has admitted 48 charges, some of violence, following a crime spree across Christchurch.

The boy was one of four youths arrested late last month following reports of car thefts and assaults across the city.

While he initially faced 81 charges, 28 were withdrawn when he made his second appearance on the matters in Christchurch Youth Court today. He did not enter pleas to three charges and denied two.

    Give them some options. For some reason we are hell bent on an education system that is failing some kids. Time to look at it, redevelop it and get kids who do not belong in school involved in learning a trade as soon as possible. I would hope that national’s military boot camps would include training in a trade and working with the businesses community to make sure these kids come out of it into a job

The Ardern-subsidised Herald hammers National’s policy of military-type training for young criminals.

” … idea slammed by experts” reads the headline.

The lead expert interviewed by the Herald is Canterbury University sociologist Jarrod Gilbert, who has written a book on gangs.

Seven years ago his gang research led to police, for a time, banning him from access to data.

The other expert is Auckland University sociologist Ronald Kramer, who was in headlines in June discussing ram raids.

Stuff reported this comment from Kramer: “We have a weird faith as a society that we can control crime with law.”

      I was listening to the stand up and Mark Mitchell was talking about an email he got a few months back. Police were called to youth stealing a car, and under the new procedure all they could do was sit on the side of the road and not chase them. At one point the youth drove another stolen car right at them. I think by the time the night was over they had stolen 4 or 5 cars. The police couldn’t chase them had to just wait until 5am to get the police helicopter involved. He said police are angry at how their hands have been tied by labour and leaving the police force because they aren’t allowed to do their job

      FWIW if it was a newer car with a transponder key they are a bit hard to nick as you can’t hotwire them. Also a steering lock bar helps – they need an angle grinder to get that off. Easier to find another car.
      
      Not that I approve of car theft. But you can do things to make it a bit harder.

        I drive a 20 year old Celica. It has an alarm and an immobiliser. Just bought a steering wheel lock. No guarantees but it helps. Christchurch is out of control. I am pleased that I have a lock up garage at home.

  Interesting argument because, in effect, there is no law when it comes to kids stealing, cars, doing ram raids etc. The cops can’t pursue them and, even when the kids are apprehended, there are no consequences.
  
  I guess we could try appealing to the kids’ sense of morality.
