I wonder how this lot of one eyed Journalists are feeling this morning after the queen of politics that they idolize took another hugh hit in her quest for a third term of Prime Minister of New Zealand.
Luke Malpass, Thomas Coughlan, Simon Wilson, Clare Trevett, Andrea Vance, Jane Patterson, Audrey Young, Jenna Lynch and Jessica Mutch McKay must be having nightmares after their Sweetheart Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her Party took a other hit on there credibility in the Hamilton West By- Election yesterday.
We all know politics is a funny game and results only last till the next election but I think most would agree now that Jacinda Ardern our Prime Minister has told one lie to many and the public are sick of her and her control.
Three Waters and Co -Governance is not what the population want and the sooner Jacinda Ardern and her Party of misfits realize that the better this country will become.
We have a year of suspence to look forward to and many people will feel better after Nationals win in the by-election but there more hard work to do to change the Government in 2023.

      pdm any reason to believe Green voters would vote for Labour because there was no Green candidate. This looks as though there was low interest generally but those that did vote indicated resistance to the way Labour is perceived to be going. We’ve already had reports from the PM of policy changes coming they’ll either do that cautiously or just dump them and try to move on. Labour’s internal polling would have told it they were going to be taking a bath. Someone wrote this week that Mahuta was defiant about 3 Waters and other legislation, the strong Maori caucus and so on but if taking on water hadn’t been appreciated earlier it sure would have been last night.

        The subtleties of politics are sometimes missed, when the policy dump comes the PM can say that those decisions were foreshadowed before the by-election. I expect JK style comment along the lines “look, we’ve come a long way with up downs but have much positive stuff on the board, we know what the public wants and we are going to build on that.” Will it work? I don’t know, but shagging around in the same hole by digging it deeper won’t either. My opinion is the vote buying has already started and we’ll see a broader game played to win back the middle after a disastrous few weeks, we’ll get to see if the PM is a scrapper or not.

    They always say that. When they lost to John Key I remember them crying and claiming they would have won but labour supporters were so confident of a win they didn’t bother to vote. Labor will probably want future elections held in the afternoon as their supporters are too busy in the morning watching re runs of tipping point, the chase and gold rush.

  It clearly doesn’t bother you that you don’t have a clue about the political sentiments of any of the reporters you mention, it’s just a chance for you to repeat your tired 8am rants. If everything you claim were in fact true the “Everbody” you often refer to would have meant a high turnout of voters. There is more support for the fact most voters don’t care (and equally are not irate as you plainly are about what you “imagine” some of the press believe), which is also indicated by the low turnout. If that’s the case the “they don’t care’s” holds the key to the next election – try not to forget that.

Waka Kotahi fails again.
Even a simple resealing job seems to be beyond the ability of this stupidly-named outfit.
It seems that sections of a recently resealed surface on SH1 in the Dome Valley are coming off in chunks, causing damage to cars and resulting in the road having to be closed. This never used to happen when it was called Land Transport NZ.
Time for the Brylcreem Kid to front up for his incompetence in both his portfolios and tender his resignation.
Failing that, reverting to its proper name might result in a better performance.

  Land Transport New Zealand was abolished in 2008. Among with Transfund and Transit New Zealand. They were all merged to form NZTA.
  
  The Maori name while a bit annoying is not the problem. It is the fact that there is now no agency with a focus on highways. There has not been since 2008 when Transit New Zealand was abolished.
  
  This is a great example of the dysfunction. Yesterday NZTA excitedly announced the completion of a 70 km cycling trail.

  Marsden Point that has been closed, not mothballed and made impossible to re-open.
  So, we are now importing second rate bitumen from some South American place.
  Just another reason why Marsden Point should have been kept open. Plus of course to aid NZs low strategic fuel supply/storage. Currently 90 days in these uncertain times with Europe demanding more as their energy needs ‘change’.

    Who the F decided that destroying the place was a Good Idea? It’s one thing to close it, but to wreck it is criminal.
    That’s what happened to Meremere power station when Auckland started to look as using it to turn waste into electricity. It was destroyed by the then owners to avoid the risk of competition.
    I get that it was a commercial decision to close the refinery, but the short-sightedness of the owners was wreckless and so far outside any sense of national interest that they should be ashamed of themselves.
    This may not be a popular position here, but frankly, I don’t care!

        That coal is for steelmaking – a bit lower quality than the Stockton stuff. Brings that here would be coals to Newcastle.
        The Indonesian coal burnt at Huntly is high ash. Not what you want in steel. Rotowaro coal supplies steelmaking at Glenbrook. Thats the next campaign the Greens want to shut down for virtue signalling so we can import Chinese rebar.

      No – Meremere was not destroyed by the owners. They started applying for cnsents to turn it into waste disposal like the US and Europe does. The Greens made such a noise opposing it so they consents weren’t granted. And they are still opposing it.

    I think you are being generous on 90 days.
    Just in time supply deliveries will differ day by day.
    If i was a gambling man NZ probably averaged 10 days reserves for the last year.
    Marsden pt produced 70 percent ashfelt and overseas 30 percent was reblended to suit nz specifications.
    What couls possibly go wrong.
    Also MBIE do not report the ammounts of fuel in NZ anymore.
    Pretty obvious why ?

        Like Ive mentioned before, use a good quality fuel conditoner when filling your tank.
        Interested to find out why Av Gas was off spec?

        Was fuel off spec pre departure to NZ or did arrive off Spec. Ie fuel bug during transit?
        Its now up too the importers to bring in on spec fuel.

        Oil (any type) floats on water. In my boat I have that filter. The Suzuki outboard also has a smaller one. That one warns me if water has got past my on boat Seperator.
        Geez I have worked on some trucks that failed just because of water. This was in the old days of bleeding injectors one at a time. Once started then bleed the other bastard injectors. LOL

    That 90 days storage may include fuel being stored overseas of NZ eg in Singapore and Korea (??) (and how will we get that fuel if a conflict breaks out in SE Asia)?
    
    Tankers will be scarce and whoops Labour (and with National doing nothing) reduced our Navy down to 2 Frigates, which won’t be enough to provide crucial tanker escorting let alone be patrolling the Pacific elsewhere. (We once had 6 Frigates and a couple of Cruisers post WW2 – that is how far we have fallen)!
    
    Anyway what’s important is what is being stored on-shore.
    
    “Fuel importers and wholesalers with bulk storage facilities will be required to hold minimum levels of onshore stocks of petrol, jet fuel, and diesel. Minimum fuel stockholding levels for them will equate to approximately 28, 24 and 21 days’ worth of petrol, jet fuel and diesel respectively.
    
    The fact that Mega Woods has to stipulate a minimum fuel stockholding suggests we don’t even have that minimum at the moment – this is truly scary because if the fuel runs out, food can’t be transported to supermarkets and society may break down!
    
    Anyway, 21-28 days isn’t enough, in these times of worsening world wide security (we now have Iran playing an active role supplying Russia with the war in Ukraine adding another piece of instability to the global jigsaw eg what if Iran’s industrial capacity is taken out in reprisal), we need the Govt to be bold and ensure at least 6 months of local minimum fuel stockholding if not more.
    
    Yes it will cost hundreds of millions or more to build new storage facilities but a prudent Govt would be all over this because what is worse is the alternative status quo of doing basically little-to-nothing, and society potentially imploding.

      90 days can and will include storage in UK from memorary and “tickets”, ie fuel in transit.
      Absolute nonsense.
      IEA is an absolute shit show with ESG and Climate corruption.
      Also we recently released so many days of Strategic reserves to combat oil prices.
      Same as uncle sam emptying there Strategic reserves.
      You really could not make this up.

  Just finished a trip from Greytown to Houhora Heads. I’ve never seen such terrible roads! Driving was made very stressful as I had to concentrate on all the normal things involved with driving plus constantly watching for potholes and other road surface imperfections. Hitting one was inevitable however and my wife and I spent four ours waiting for road side assistance to change the wheel ( I’m in a camper that needs a very powerful jack) . The other thing that struck us were the kilometres of road cones serving no apparent purpose with no workers whatsoever! I have seen the roads in such a mess.

  My guess is they were stoned as chooks…put down the metal then the tar in reverse order. ….so nothing substantive to ” stick” one layer to the underlying one? Hence it has delaminated .

    In the UK in the early 20th century there was a law that required a man with a red flag to walk in front of a motor vehicle to limit its speed . Now I think it would be a good idea to implement that here, not only would it almost certainly deliver the governments road to zero policy but he could save vehicle owners a fortune in blown tires by keeping a look out for potholes , subsidence and delaminating road surfaces while at the same time reducing emissions.

  Early on this year I commented that I had been driving through the same 3 roadworks on my trip Auckland to Russell since late 2020. Northern motorway at Albany, Dome valley, South of Whangarei. I said at least two wouldn’t finish by Xmas, and at least one would be being ripped up within a year.

Under the headline “Co-governance work put on ice”, Newsroom’s Jo Moir writes –

The Māori Development Minister is putting the brakes on co-governance work, while National is still unsure how it will meet the United Nations declaration commitments it signed up to more than a decade ago [1]

– which could be called “diss-information” as it disses National for being inactive, while just below. in Moir’s article, there is this –

At the request of its governing partner, Te Pāti Māori, National signed up to the UN declaration in 2010, but little has been done to progress it in the years since. [1]

– and that may be miss-information – information that is untrue – as it was “the Maori Party” co-lead by Pita Sharples, who at the UN, among other caveats, outlined precisely that National –

• reaffirms the legal and constitutional frameworks that underpin New Zealand’s legal system, noting that those existing frameworks[the Treaty of Waitangi] define the bounds of New Zealand’s engagement with the declaration. [2]

So, the Treaty of Waitangi continues to be the basis for the Crown-Māori relationship.. not He Paupau
It does not confer rule by unbounded but binding Mana o te Wai statements or medical veto of care for all New Zealanders, or acceptance of te Ao o Maori, where religion and myth infringe on secular government.

It would seem Tarrant used no “hate speech” – well, not any that drew attention to his existence, extremism pr intentions, heinous as they were – so the connection that has been made to his hideous act and “hate speech” is spurious.
Although actual ” hate speech” (known when we saw it) existed concurrent to Tarrants’s atrocities. like Islamophobia, but was not the cause of it like the Ardern Labour Government would have you believe.

Again, a little truth might help.

When I think of real investigative journalists like Geoff Walker, David Exel, Joe Cote or Darinie Shannahan and Keith Aberdeen, and the fact there is no match to them now, I am deeply saddened

Seeing as it is Sunday morning, some spiritual reflection to start your day.

Many New Zealanders say that they are of “no religion”. The idea is that we are moving to becoming a secular state where everybody thinks like a social studies teacher. Sadly we are moving to a state where everyone thinks like a crazy social studies teacher. Rather than having no religion, we have a new religion. The new religion is “woke”. A parasite from Christianity it uses Christian categories like caring for the poor and the marginalised and turns them into weapons. So being black or brown is turned into a weapon. You are suddenly an oppressed person who urgently needs their rights against the evils of white patriarchal society. If you are a woman you suddenly are an oppressed character fighting the evil patriarchy. If you are the newly discovered category of transgender, you’re fighting the patriarchy and cis gender individuals.

What this new woke religion does is enable people to see themselves as oppressed, and means that they don’t have to take any responsibility for their actions or their character. The purpose of their life becomes tearing down society in the pursuit of a woke utopia that never actually arrives. Indeed the more woke we get, the more angry people get. Some people, like these new transgender activists, are at war with society and if truth be told are at war with themselves. They are at war with their actual biological sex.

So the conclusion on Sunday morning is that it is not possible to have no religion. The people will have a religion. And the new religion of woke has no forgiveness, no grace and no mercy for those who transgress its ever-changing tenents.

How much better it would be if we returned to Sunday morning and spending that one hour in church. That one hour contemplating the mercy of God, the forgiveness of sins and our need to be humble and grateful and to forgive others, as he has forgiven us. That one hour will hold society together. That one hour will make the world a better place.

    I have some Christian friends who run a little church that does just that. 99% good works and 1% religion. Very significant role in the community and the church is used by all kinds of groups. The pastor was a builder and still does some. I judge people by what they do.

      Had edge fall protection around my hose when the roof was redone.
      Then they wanted $2500 for more scaffolding to do new guttering. $2500 just for the scaffold, not including the guttering. I refused and did it myself.
      It is somehow less dangerous if you do things yourself.
      Besides that a bloody Council inspector got onto me. Phoned me on my landline.
      I asked him how he got my number, he said ‘online white pages’

        A builder I know told me that there used to be a few guys in Christchurch who would make pocket money going around cleaning roofing gutters for old folk. They all shut up shop because the new regulations required them to use scaffolding. That forced the old folk to do it themselves. He heard of a couple falling off the ladder, breaking hips, legs etc.

        I have had this number for all of those years. It was unlisted back then.
        It is not on my Rates bill, but was probably on the Building Permit.

  Wellington (Regional Council/City Council? ) have collected a lot of rates over the past ten years for 3Ws. A proportion of this has been siphoned off to pay for other staff and other projects. A form of cross subsidy.
  
  It is not clear whether all the 3W rates Councils now bill, will cease and be billed by the 4 water entities separately. If this happens Councils will be shadow’s of their current entities and Labour will have succeeded in its local govn reform.

My father was once a deputy mayor. Everyone in the town knew him and were frequent customers of our parents’ business.
In another town the mayor lived just down the street. I sat in classes with sons and daughters of councillors.
Once as a young reporter I called around to see the mayor of a small town. ‘He’s out the back,’ his boss – one of his councillors – told me.
The mayor was a mechanic in a local garage.
I interviewed his feet as he worked on his back under a car trying to fix ‘this fucking bitch of a fucking gear-box’.
The Labout Government’s local body ‘reforms’ of 1989 changed all that.
The town where Dad was deputy mayor lost its council to 20 miles away.
The town where the mayor lived down the street became subsumed into something that’s 26 miles away.
The town with the mayoral mechanic – the same.
Andrea Vance has hit the nail on the head about why we – or so many of us – can’t be bothered voting.
Local elected officials have become remote and anonymous. In 30 years I’ve never known who my local councillors were. One guy – well-known in political circles – used to show up every three years. Always election years.

Even though it is summer, with reduced demand, South Africa now sits with “stage 5” and “stage 6” load shedding.

Practically, that means some people are getting no power for up to 11 or 12 hours a day ( losses due to local problems with transformers etc).

At one stage Eskom (the power utility) was one of the best in the world. I know, I worked there in the 1980s. Now it has become a smoking crater due to government interference and corruption.

Things are getting alarmingly worse alarmingly fast. They have had more load shedding in the last 6 months than the rest of Eskom’s 99 year history combined.

About 10% of the Electricity comes from open cycle gas turbines (OCGTs) burning diesel. They have already blown their diesel budget twice over for this financial year and there are still 4 months to go (April).

The likelihood of going over half the day without power, or even a complete grid collapse, is getting higher every day.

If we are not careful, this is the track we are going down.

In the past couple of years, police language has changed around speeding, and police have again reiterated, “the speed limit is the speed limit and you can expect to be stopped for going at any speed over the limit”.

Police have been under pressure to increase use of speed cameras after years of undershooting the targets that Waka Kotahi NZTA funds them to hit. NZTA is taking over the cameras next year.

Excellent, maybe they’ll be able to put some effort into catching criminals…….

  You go a couple of k’s over the limit , you’re not actually “speeding” , you’re exceeding the limit and in most circumstnces on the open road will not be in the least bit dangerous.
  
  And by that token you could drive down a suburban road , cars parked on each side, effectively a one way passage ,pedestrians and children all over the place ,at 49 kph , and you won’t be exceeding the limit , but you’ll actually be “speeding” given the circumstances , but you won’t be breaking any laws , unless something goes wrong .

My report:
I was at the ACT event last night in Hamilton, in an English pub, as the by-election results were being finalised.
My Taiwanese wife is the main driver in me being there, even though I party voted ACT in 2017 (first time) and intend to vote ACT again in the next election, this was the first time being physically present at an event.

David Seymour, Brooke Van Velden, James McDowall (of course), Simon Court and Karen Chhour were there.
Spoke to all aside from Brooke over the course of the evening.

I made a point of starting conversation with Karen Chhour to say what a prick Kelvin Davis was (i.e. when he asserted her as a product of the pakeha world), and how that horrified people even who might be considered ‘left’. Her comment was that when you are hitting the mark, some people will just lash out, and this is where race is a fall back when you have nothing else.

I asked philosophically how members of the current government can live with themselves, and assure the public they are doing great, when I feel sick just reading of the likes of the Malachi child-murder; yet I am not in a position of control or accountability.
Interestingly Karen said that it is not as much Kelvin’s fault as the amount of ministries and departments involved being able to pass on responsibility, and not communicating. She stated that a number of ministries need to be closed down. Here I touched on the zero-sum game of identity politics that such ministries cater to – identity politics.
But it was a thoughtful point around bloated and overlapping ministries, and well made by Karen.
Showing the opposite of the lack of class of Kelvin Davis, she played the ball & not the man!

Further on the topic, as to why the politician will lie that crime is less, or poverty is reduced, I mentioned Keri Allan and her dubious graph of lower crime under Labour & why can such people lie to themselves and us.
Karen’s answer was that it is about keeping a >$300,000 salary. Also that the graph was a manipulation of statistics, around using reporting levels overall (of course this is measuring the RESPONSE to crime, just like prosecution rates, and not crime itself, if you think about this – we plainly can see specifically car theft and ram raids are well up for instance).
So good points again, that – surprise surprise – the graph is deliberately contrived BS, but also that (like Sharma said of Labour) “the party comes before the country”, and seems that before that, the paycheck thereof is most important.

To wrap up, I spoke to David, who was periodically busy checking laptop for the updated numbers coming in, or media feeds (RNZ and TV1 where there), interviews and chats, and by the time I managed to intrude on him when not speaking with another guest there I was onto my 5th pint 😉

So not my best work on conversation with David as I had so much to pass on and so bounced over a lot of detail & depth at a furious rate.
I focused on the toxic race politics, the fact that street names are being renamed in Hamilton and by the fanatics own words it is just the start.
That the loudest voices are often not right on points of factual detail, or even consistent with the literal words of their own ancestors. That ‘mana whenua’ are contrasted with other arrivals and ‘thieves and rapists’ and how toxic this is to young minds.
A point I tried to get out, and why I focused on this ‘race’ topic only, was that any government might be better or worse at building new roads but that the poisoning of the minds of young people is a much more important issue in the longer term.

David made a point that the current political fashion is trying to pretend that all view points are equally valid and true, and of course that this is problematic. (Yes 100%, as this is why we might end up apologising or patronising even dangerous ways of thinking, rather than standing for principles.)
David also said that there is a place to concede that there are historical issues with how Maori were treated (again this is historical true, as long as NUANCED and not toxic/retarded like it is getting).
I must admit that rushing to make the most of my couple of snippets with David I hardly let him to get a word in, belting out historic events/battles and quoting or naming 19th century chiefs. Yet he heard at least some coherence as he noted back a philosophical point I had earlier made when I nabbed him again just before we left.
I was really trying to get the idea of a good & evil race-based lens onto NZ history and modern outcomes is very saddening to me as a student of history as well as literal poison for society. Another word David got in edge-wise was that these (revisionist) perspectives are a fashion which had started overseas, which again is quite right. i.e. Colonist-this. Equity-that.

Had she been present, it would have been good to chat to Nicole McKee as well, as I am a firearms owner & collector, but I am sure I will see her at a gun show or event in future.

Anyway, a good night, and a chance to talk with some principled people -who do not just move where the wind blows – & who with luck might be part of the next government and controlling some of the ministries that need turning around or purging.

      ACT were relevant in that they got 10%, which means the Labour (+greens) vote has collapsed if you consider centre left cumukative vs. centre right cumulative as a %.
      Good indication of the general election I hope, with Left; social justice and identity politics vs ‘right’ with personal responsibility, personal liberty.
      This would mean that ACT can carve out a good %, being that David considered the result good since many ACT people might have voted Nats (which I DID) – so the % party vote will be even better next year.

I know this may be not the most appropriate forum, but I’ve been trying to find the enthusiasm to watch the Football World Cup, but am finding difficulty in getting emotionally involved, when there appears to be a basic flaw in the whole setup.

I played soccer at school, so do love the game, but it seems that the current rules, well at the elite level anyway, do not provide an adequate level of granularity of scoring in the main part of the game, leaving the final outcome to be determined with a penalty shootout, that is basically a test of the goalie to save in a set piece. And the outcome sometimes appears to be a random affair. Did he go left when he should have gone right?

I remember well when rugby games were won or lost 6-3, 9-6 etc. And to be honest quite boring. But then the rules changed, and now have scores regularly in the 30’s and 40’s. The granularity at that level is much easier to see who is the better side. And far more entertaining.

In the current tournament, how many ganes have gone to extra time, and then to a penalty shootout? From my perspective too many. Indicating that the main game is almost irrelevant, and creates too much focus on defence rather than risk taking on attack, making the game less attractive to watch.

  I’m not sure rugby with multiple scrum resets and infathomable penalty rulings in the breakdown is necessarily much better.
  
  I still don’t get how refs rule on scrum collapses 3/4 of the time.

Brand Cindy used to market herself as Cindy the Kind. In this version, Cindy was terrifying to behold, sure, but in her we saw in her was simply the worst aspects about ourselves – reflected, magnified and distorted.

Cindy gurned a sinister smile, rolled her eyes and flapped her lips; a protean idiot thing from the depths of pre-history. The message was fundamentally degenerate and deviant – socialist Cindy could make our lives better by taking everything from us. Her propaganda was delivered with her trademark cruel lips leering into a disturbing smile. She chased ambulances for hugs, and fake emoted to the multitude, and the people loved it.

Over time, I became used to Brand Cindy, sinister and disturbing though these performances were. It came as a complete surprise, then, to see her recent performance at Parliament, during questions about three waters, where her mask slipped.

It seems that Cindy the Kind has been consigned to history. Replacing this monstrosity seems to be Shouty Cindy, which is very different, but still interesting. She was shrill, screaming, screeching and strident. The hysterical shouting seemed wild, as she lashed out against everyone everywhere, completely losing all composure.

Check it out for yourself. The change was curious and shocking. I cannot help wondering if she is suffering some sort of mental crisis, as a consequence of the collapse in her popularity.

Of course, she should have calmly and simply sacked Mahuta the looter, rather than losing the plot.

I wonder what Cindy we will see in the future? Will it be fake kind Cindy, emoting and hugging her way to the election? Or will it be Shouty Cindy, shrilly screaming at all and sundry?

Interesting times…

Ardern is a sociopath. Some of the attributes of sociopaths include:

1. Superficial charm often with glibness

2. Manipulative and conning behavior characterized by not recognizing the rights of others, but instead have self-serving behaviors, are covertly hostile and dominating, see other people as props or instruments to be used for their benefit and consequently humiliate and dominate others.

3. Grandiose behavior characterized as the right to be entitled to whatever they wish.

4. Pathological lying so that they easily find it impossible to be consistently truthful. As a result, they get caught up in a complex belief that they have extraordinary powers. They are so expert at this they pass lie detector tests.

5. A consistent lack of even the concept of remorse, shame, or guilt that conceals a split off from consciousness deep seated rage. People are seen as targets, props, and opportunities to use like property or objects. There is a deep belief that the end justifies the means and they act accordingly.

5. Shallow emotions conceal feigned warmth, joy, and compassion. They have ulterior motives when they act as if they feel these emotions. They are manipulating instead to gain what they are sure is their due by playing the part of a caring individual. While they are often outraged by insignificant matters especially if they feel slighted, while unphased by what would be more normal upsets. Their lack of genuine emotions behind their behaviors, they cannot be trusted. Promises will not be kept.

6. There is a severe inability to love because they only seek what benefits themselves. Others may be misled by the above-mentioned play acting of emotional caring, but this is always suspect.

My immediate and enduring thought in these matters is more concerned with what’s fair for poor NZ families who now have yet another group of New Zealanders with their hands out demanding more taxpayer money be thrown their way – and with politicians and sports administrators gleefully willing to oblige.

Want to be the next Mahe Drysdale? Great! Bloody good on you! Sort yourself out an income, find some sponsors and go for it! Here let me slip you a few hundred to help you out.

But quite why you should be given money from the mouths of NZ families to further your sporting ambitions escapes me – and especially where and when those taxpayer funds could be spent elsewhere so much better.

  I’ll bet you a dollar these people have no qualms about heating their homes with fossil fuels either.
  It’ll never happen, but I’d love to see some of the people who have wrecked energy/electricity supplies around the world go to prison. They are responsible for probably the largest drop in the standard of living in recent times.

On Thursday, three members of Twitter’s Trusty & Safety Council quit the company in a huff, claiming in a tweeted screed that the “safety and wellbeing of Twitter’s users are on the decline” since Elon Musk took over.

The individuals in question – Anne Collier, Eirliani Abdul Rahman, and Lesley Podesta (niece of John Podesta) – wrote about how they’ve worked tirelessly on ‘digital safety’ – with Rahman proudly serving on the Council’s “Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Prevention advisory group.”

Except – these three beacons of virtue apparently didn’t do much when it came to pedophiles running rampant on the platform – which led several major brands to pull campaigns with the company shortly before Musk’s acquisition.

“You all belong in jail,” tweeted commentator Mike Cernovich, linking to a New York Post article outlining how Twitter refused to remove child porn because it “didn’t find a violation.”

To which Elon Musk replied: “It is a crime that they refused to take action on child exploitation for years!”

Modelled data is ripe for propoganda.
Newshub is showing that most Auckland beaches aren’t safe to swim at after the rain, but Auckland is the only part of NZ where we don’t publish our actual water sample results. Auckland runs a different programme called “safe swim” and only show modelled data. And it’s not like we show the actuals sometimes and modelled data in between. There are no actual samples. Other areas of New Zealand publish their actual data from water samples weekly. Watching 1 News, get to the weather report. The weekend presenter immediately fires up into her favoured tortured mashup of English with a sizeable portion of Maori thrown into the mix. I watch for 30 seconds, and give up. I’m struggling to understand what on earth she’s saying, I’m not following the meaning, so why bother? It’s an incredibly confusing mixture of English and Maori, and renders the report virtually unintelligible. I check my preferred weather app instead – again.

It is honestly quite baffling as to how the bosses seem to think this is a good idea. What’s the point of presenting the weather in a manner which is nigh on impossible for someone who is well-educated and fairly literate to understand? It’s not succeeding in informing me about the weather, because I literally cannot understand what the presenter is saying. And it’s not succeeding in teaching me one word of Maori, because … well, because I literally cannot understand what the presenter is saying.

It is quite nonsensical, yet like the Emperor’s New Clothes everybody is too frightened to say so.
