St Jacinda of the Blessed Teeth has been “blindsided” by the news that an hour long piece she recorded on video some time ago to promote her incredible world-leading talents as a young and emerging leader is now being used as a major segment in a Netflix series by Ginger and Whinger? But both are such good and close friends! Surely such good friends would share such info? Remind me again – what is St Jacinda’s views on the monarchy? Does she support New Zealand becoming a Republic?

    Odd as it seems, on this occasion I am inclined to believe Jacinda. For two reasons:
    
    – if she had given explicit permission, denying it would probably result in Ms Markle exposing the lie.
    
    – more importantly, this clip seems to be some kind of background material that the PM recorded ages ago. I think it is unlikely that H & M need her permission to include it in whatever hair brained show they are putting together,

      Heard on the radio this a.m. that the clip was recorded a year or two back and was supposedly something to do with Mandela Foundation, to which Ardern had given permission for use. Bet Ardern didn’t caveat it with anything about what the use would or could be. Stupid people do stupid things.

      Let’s assume back in 2019 when she did this interview for the Mandela Foundation that she was so naive that she didn’t know how or who this content would be used. Rubbish – she’s not that naive.
      Any organisation or production company knocking on your door will be asking for this content, surely your gonna has some sort of written contract/agreement in place about how and what will be used?
      Mr & Mrs Windsor probably/likely paid for this content off Mandela Foundation. This isn’t all done for free.
      The questions should be asked – did Cindy get paid to do this interview and who paid her? and did she get paid personally or into another entity related to Cindy? Was this a financial transaction?
      Fair questions to ask the PM of NZ who has used her position for this content.

        I doubt that she (or at least her advisors) are happy about this material being used by a couple who are increasingly being seen as crazy by many.
        
        The other thing is, the PM has a special relationship with the Monarch as head of state. She would be unwise to cloud that relationship by getting involved with a couple of the family who have gone rogue.

        The US has very liberal policies on fair use. In short for a clip like this, Netflix don’t need to get permission.
        This is the reason why political parties in the US can use music, even when the composer/singer objects. not the case in NZ.

    I’ve now looked at the Herald article. Even if she did know it was being switched to Netflix and then to H and M why didn’t she withdraw her agreement as the original agreement was for one thing and by May it had morphed into something completely different. From knowing in May that H and M were involved to suddenly trying to distance yourself now seems an awfully long time.

  IMHO the greatest threat to the future prosperity of this country is that 40% of students dont attend school. The prison population illustrates what happens when people cant read write and add up. Over the past 50 years education standards have declined. I know because I have been employing people since 1973 and witnessed the dropping standards. We face a bleak future with massive unemployment as unskilled jobs and semiskilled jobs are taken over by robots and AI. Without a highly skilled work force we can expect lawlessness to increase and society to continue to break down.

    The ministry of education stated that the high absent rate was due to staff and students having to isolate because of Covid. I don’t really think this year and last we can get an accurate account of those who actually don’t regularly attend school.

  Generally, generally I have believed what I have been told by a PM or Minister because of various verifications and checks and balances in the system including the media. But with the outgoing PM and the clear manipulation of data and the media that has gone on in the last five years I no longer believe anything she tells me and the same goes for her Ministers. We have been treated to one ongoing liefest since they got in and my distrust of them is the consequences for the government of that approach.

Big surprise. Rental shortages in BoP, Wanaka, Queenstown. And the number of new builds for sale nationally (TradeMe) is increasing every month. Fewer buyers than developers expected? Because reasons.

Wānaka property agent Colleen Topping has been in the rental market for 18 years … and puts the current crisis down to property owners having little to no incentive to rent their homes.”There is no housing shortage here but there is a rental shortage. We have got to encourage instead of discourage landlords.”Government changes in the law have meant that since October 2021 property investors could no longer fully deduct interest costs against the income they make from renting out a property.

Meanwhile – official numbers from HUD – June 2017 to October 2022 –

Transitional (emergency) housing places up 415%. Social housing waiting list up 340%. However it does seem that the social housing waiting list is dropping, but strangely it is largely not due to households moving to social housing. Those numbers don’t add up.

Election year coming up. If the numbers are trumpeted as marvellous news, maybe a journalist or two will check the actual numbers and ask questions.
Don’t suppose the government will admit the massive role their very own policies have played.

      Just bringing in migrants willy nilly won’t do anything other than a short term fix for short term problems.
      
      Flooding the country only reduces gdp per capita , overwhelms infrastructure and creates social division.
      
      The country needs to get off dope , get back to school and back to work .
      
      This is a generational issue of national importance.
      
      ps in an age of automation , where’s the automation. We need to work smart , not make the same mistakes of the past 40 – 50 to years.

        Why in today’s social and economic position would anybody want to live in New Zealand, except off the generous State handouts.
        Same as why immigrants want to go thousands of miles to get to UK because of the illusion of nirvana they afre told – Welfare State – (and currently bloody cold with strikes everywhere – and still they risk their lives for it in rubber dinghy, and regret it in time when they get there.

        Do you actually know the immigration status of these individuals or are you just assuming?
        
        Immigration policy targets skill people and allows them to bring in their immediate family (frankly inhuman to do it any other way).
        
        Refugees, pacific quotas and student visa holders do not go through that filter.

      Cut personal income taxes then labour force participation rate increases,
      Cut govt regulation – it frees up employees
      Close down or scale down govt depts. – it frees up employees
      RBNZ sells down its balance sheet ie it shrinks money supply – wasteful projects are canned.
      
      NZ has all the labour it needs. But National are really just hot garbage.

  Queenstown and Wanaka have always been holiday towns with high number of homes being holiday homes. Not suitable to be rentals for long term tenant that are living and working in the town.
  In my opinion for these towns the housing for seasonal workers from overseas needs to be provided by the local council. It’s not up to central govt or locals to provide this.

  I have to say that that is a typical real estate agent response. Lowering interest deductability isnt really the issue.
  
  The problem in Wanaka and QT is the type of homes that are being built. They are upper NZ homes at great cost even for something small. They are built primarily for holiday homes and people are prepared to rent them out to AirB&B and great $ which they are happy to collect on. Nice bit of top rental for a few months of the year.
  
  But the thing is, the houses were never built to rent. They were built as a nest egg and a nice vacay home. For most the air BNB money is just an opportunity to cover rates etc and dont figure into their investment structuring in any meaningful way.
  
  These houses will never be available for long term rent so the answer is unfortunately a further incentive as they have in Australia, a tax on empty homes.
  
  Its not just a Nz problem, the same thing is happening across various parts of Britain such as the Devon and Cornwall coast and the Cotswolds. Locals are going homeless because all the homes are brought up as airBnB /Holiday homes. Same in Australia, hence the empty house tax.
  
  As Bernard Hickey says “We dont so much have an economy as a Housing Investment with a bit of an economy tacked on”

LGNZ at it again with racist standing orders. Hobsons pledge has commissioned a legal opinion that has been sent to all councillors.

I have contacted the Chch Mayor suggesting this be looked at, and membership to LGNZ be reviewed… look at contacting your local councillor/mayor.

  Well that legal opinion is damning. Will LGNZ be responding, at least to its members to support its guidelines in the light of the opinion? Will more councils say nope to LGNZ membership?
  
  More concerningly will some councils be scared of being called racist and undemocratic so quietly do what they are told by LGNZ. I’m picking yes.

With the wife and kids in Sydney. First overseas trip since CovidCult. I am stunned by how far New Zimbabwe has regressed. Little things I note:
-Roads properly sealed
-Airport doesn’t run out of food (like Auckland did on departure)
-Nighttime in CBD is safe. Street people polite and behaved. Streets are clean
-Public transport that works.
-English spoken by government and state officials not some pidgin dribble.

Until you get out of the country you don’t gain a true picture of how almost complete our decent into the third world has become.

  I saw the same back in 2008, Australia is way ahead of NZ. I was very surprised at the difference. I found Queenslander’s very engaging, not like NZ public.
  When I arrived back at the airport waiting to get on an Air New Zealand flight, it was full of overweight unkept people.

    Nowhere is perfect. There is a big difference between visiting somewhere and living there for a significant period. Australia IS the lucky country but it could very easily be destroyed by the latest pack of proven woketards (state and federal). A very large part of the pop (mainly in the largest cities) also can’t think straight, due to the march through the institutions by the loony left over the last 40 or 50 years.

  The biggest problem is the re-interpretation of the treaty into some sort of ersatz constitution.
  
  So long as we look to past of the Tangata Whenua as some sort of woke-etarian blueprint for our future, this country is in trouble.
  
  Our Health system, education system and justice system is increasingly being managed with far more emphasis on treaty obligations, and in each case, it has been to it’s over-all detriment.
  
  Unfortunately, those who can and should speak out against such things, are threatened with the epithet of ‘Racist’, making proper and reasoned debate, all but impossible.

We learned nothing from Swine Flu (2010)

Look before you leap. When a new infectious disease problem emerges, the premium must be on gathering and analyzing reliable information rather than triggering preconceived and inappropriate responses. The perception that these events are emergencies requiring instant response is overstated. A little thoughtful reflection will be invaluable.

React to facts, not fears. Pandemic plans gave little or no flexibility to scale down measures for a mild (or ultra-mild) pandemic. Everything was geared to a 1918-style disaster — more of a phantom than a real threat in our modern world. Once activated, the plans took on lives of their own.

Keep the politicians away. Public health officials can and should change their minds when new evidence emerges. They can be wrong without shame so long as they stay flexible and open-minded. Reversing fields is much more difficult for politicians. Our persistence with H1N1 immunization long after it had any value had much to do with political face-saving.

Never exaggerate. Public health’s greatest asset is credibility. The unfortunate tendency to overstate the dangers of H1N1 will only mean that some people will doubt our word when we have something really important to say.

Be your own toughest critic. Public health authorities – federal and provincial – have yet to produce any rigorous evidence-based analysis of the H1N1 experience. If we don’t identify our mistakes, how can we learn from them?

  Hi Tom, generally agree. However with respect to ‘Keep the politicians away’ I disagree. I don’t want medical officials making the decisions. I want someone, and it kind of has to be politicians, weighing advice from multiple sources and making the decisions.
  
  For example with Covid, on a pure medical perspective many ‘experts’ believe we should still be in isolation and have compulsory masks etc to avoid as much illness as possible. Medical officials would probably had physically forced vaccine on all. However when you factor in the economic, educational and social damage of that policy it becomes clear that the best option is to do the opposite. The problem we (and most other countries had) was politicians that made decisions based on the political damage of incorrect decisions, it was safer to take no ‘risk’. The downsides are the societal and financial damage we are now dealing with.

  I wonder, just hypothetically, that if back in the 19th Century it was tikanga that Maori women could not be educated past say primary school and that they could only work in certain occupations and must be separated from men in the workplace – would we see the usual suspects championing this in 2022?

I see where someone has been cleared of a murder conviction after spending years in prison because the law and the prosecution fiddled with the facts.
Firstly those who did this should be imprisoned for the same length of time and all their assets sold to pay the innocent victim some form of compensation.

Secondly their work history should be closely examined and the many cases they were involved in reviewed

  Yes, it’s an injustice but there will be so many in each profession protecting the integrity and honesty of their profession that in no way will they want to point fingers. This will be another what a shame moment, but no one will be held accountable. Sadly.

    Alas NZ has a culture of cover up. The Institute of Business Ethics studies show that 20% plus of employees witness unethical immoral and illegal activity but dont report it because of a fear of the consequences. Has anyone been watching covid cases in the US/UK? Given it is winter shouldn’t they be experiencing a surge? While I know they know longer test to the same extent NZ and Australia do it appears that their cases are so far mostly stable. If so have citizens in the rest of the world gained more immunity?

Here in NZ (and Aus) we are in catch up mode and in full covid surge just in time for Xmas thanks to Jacinda and her Government who keep our borders closed far too long. Wellingtonians who vocalised their disdain for ‘dangerous’ Aucklanders a year ago and demanded we remain locked in our unnatural Government mandated border appear to be suffering the worst.

Jacinda ‘saved’ us so we could suffer economic damage far longer than other nations.

Naivety and stupidity are the hallmarks of the 6th Labour Government

  The vaccines are driving the surge in covid cases in NZ. Fact. Inconvenient, but a fact. Most of my jabbed friends have had covid at least once, most of them twice since getting stuck. None of my unjabbed friends have had it yet. No doubt we’ll get it sooner or later but we don’t actually care.

    Whether or not they work, all vaccinations tamper with the innate immune system. That is what they do.
    
    In doing so, they redeploy the body’s resources by crying wolf and telling the immune system there is a threat to be prepared for. The vaccine is essentially a mock up of the threat so the immune system knows what to look for.
    
    More normal vaccines (ie. those derived from the actual threat themselves) have many (maybe 20 or more) different characteristics that the immune system learns are a threat. As a result, they continue to work better when there are some mutations. They maybe no longer recognise one or two of the characteristics but they recognise the others.
    
    These mRNA synthetic vaccines are different. They train the body to divert most of its resources into identifying and attacking a very specific spike protein. If that protein changes, then the mutated virus is invisible to the highly trained-up immune system.
    
    The mutated virus must then be handled by the now depleted general immune system that has been robbed to respond to a virus that is no longer coming.
    
    I push back on your claim that unvaxxed people are not getting infected, but I partially agree with your observations. All the people that I know have had CV19 whether they are vaxxed or not. All the unvaxxed got infected by vaxxed people. All the people I know that have had CV19 more than once were vaxxed. None of the unvaxxed people I know have had it more than once.

      cmm – I appreciate your input and your comments make perfect sense, they explain what is happening very well.
      Re my observation on covid infection. To be fair, none of my unvaxxed friends have ever tested, we realised very early that by doing so we were validating and supporting a narrative that is based on lies. I had a bug last year, so did many of these same friends at various times, none of them bad enough to hospitalise us, in fact, none of them worse than any seasonal cold/flu. We might have had covid, but the tests are so unreliable we fail to see the point in having them.
      We mainly munched on vitamin C and zinc every day.
      
      Personally, I was close to getting a RAT when I had to go to hospital for a bad eye infection. Apparently a negative RAT test would mean the doctor didn’t need to wear PPE. Although I was opposed to testing, I felt it would be rude to make it inconvenient for the doctor and the RAT is certainly not as invasive as the idiotic PCR test.
      Anyway, when the nurse came back with the RAT test to administer, I asked him how accurate it was. His face dropped as he admitted it was less than 50% accurate.
      I said I wasn’t prepared toss a coin with all the associated hassles re isolation etc for me and my family and close associates, and that I would go home as I didn’t want to bug he doctor. Nurse insisted I stay.
      Doctor came in to examine my eye, got within 200mm of my face with his own face. He was in normal clothes, not even a mask. I apologised for any inconvenience. He said don’t worry about it.
      He obviously wasn’t terrified for his life dealing with an unvaxxed, unmasked, untested untermensch. Funny that.

        Very likely CV19. That’s what it was like for me and the missus (both unvaxxed), both tested positive with RAT about 4 days after developing symptoms.
        
        Neither of us registered our positive tests with the Covid Stasi.
        
        Funnily enough, about a month later I was admitted to hospital for an unrelated matter. I was only in for less than a day including going to theatre (in at 2 am, out at 6pm). I was given a PCR, but the results had not come back before going to theatre so they gave me a quick RAT which came back negative. An hour after going to theatre (just as I was discharging from hospital) the PCR came back positive. The PCR was detecting the remnants of my infection from over a month ago.
        
        So I ended up being counted as “hospitalised with CV19” even though I did not have CV19 at the time and certainly was not there because of CV19.
        
        With all the lies in the numbers there has been close to zero science during the pandemics.
        
        We might have wrapped our pandemics in more scientific language, but the actual handling is really no different to when they had those beak masks back in the 1600s.

Let’s assume there was more but not been reported yet. But don’t panic, Labour reckons there is no crime crisis although the NZ Police will contradict them publicly.
This is not just a south auckland thing. All over Auckland it is now the wild west of sorts. If you live north, west, east Auckland – be sure it’s happening in your hood. I bet Cindy doesn’t feel safe coming back to live in Auckland anymore!.

This is the equivalent of Saint Ash coming out and making similar comments. It would utterly destroy the narrative still being pushed by the dangerous morons running NZ Health or whatever they are called these days. Where are our medical people? Still terrified that they will be ostracised and smeared for telling the truth. It is horrendous what is happening in this country.

Most countries now at least are permitting the conversation that needs to be had. Not New Zimbabwe. Ardern has the narrative still under lock and key, do dissension permitted. She has made the country worse than North Korea.

Last night on TV there was an item regarding Christchurch City Mission deciding to dole out food parcels rather than do a sit down Christmas dinner. The parcels contained ham, poultry, pavlovas, chocolates, and other seasonal delights.
A person was lining up to receive one and stated they’d lost their job during the year. He appeared fit and well and relatively articulate so why hasn’t he got another job? I’m of the understanding employers are desperately seeking staff.
And maybe if he didn’t spend money on bright artificial hair dye he could afford food?

Prebble says the cost of smokes has triggered a crime wave.

He’s only partially right.

It isn’t just the cost, but also the lack of consequences for those who choose to pinch them.

Essentially criminals do a calculation:

Value of crime = upsides (get loot, notoriety, fun) – downsides (prison if caught, getting shot,…).

In NZ the upsides are high and the downsides are low, so the value of committing crimes is high.

Certainly the high prices of smokes makes the upsides higher, but the other factors like fun are high too. Heck, they’re even doing ram raids and robberies for ice creams and lollies.

Reducing the price of cigarettes might shift the crime value equation, but so would increasing the consequences and making the downsides to committing crime higher.

With worry about dementia from head injury in sports, has the “Q-collar” reached NZ yet?

Selling for about $US200 ($NZ) in America, it is a light, cushioned collar that football players and others can wear round their neck to restrict blood flow to the brain. The makers reckon this gives the brain an extra layer of cushioning.

The “New York Times” reports that US football players on more than two dozen college and NFL teams are wearing the collars. They are controversial.

Tom Hoey, of the company that makes the collars, Q30 Innovations, told the newspaper: “We’re not talking about concussions. We are talking about the repetitive hits.The Q-Collar reduces the injury and changes to the brain caused by subconcussive impacts.

America’s Federal Food and Drug Administration seems to be cautious in its assessment of the device.

The NY Times says this of the FDA’s summary of the device, which it adds was “far more measured” than its approval in February of last year:

The agency cited uncertainty surrounding the imaging technology that the studies relied on. Those studies revealed, under certain circumstances, subtle changes in the brain tissue of high school football and soccer players who did not wear the Q-Collar, regardless of whether they experienced concussion symptoms. Those changes, detectable only with high-tech imaging, differed from changes in the brain tissue of the players who did wear it.

Well if the government tries to “solve” this they will do so by drowning more white kids to even up the stats.

Something I can never understand is that Maori and Polynesians keep banging on about their proud maritime heritage, being one with the sea, etc, yet so few can swim strongly. Why is that?

I’m not talking about competitive swimming for medals, but rather basic but strong swimming that will keep you alive if you fall off a boat etc. ie. being able to swim a few hundred metres and tread water for half an hour.

Could Maui swim? If so, how well?

The colonialists didn’t make the sea dangerous. It has always been so. Surely with all the Maori affinity with the sea they should be like ducks around water and outstrip their white brothers and sisters.

  It never ceases to amaze me how many Kiwis just can’t swim, when we are surrounded by water. Even at 70, if I fall out of my boat I will not drown. Thing is don’t panic. Go with the flow. Sooner or later you will be able to swim to a beach.
  I am way off being an Olympic swimmer. I swam in the Waikato river as a kid. About 11 miles from The Narrows to Hamilton.

My late dad was a swimmer in his youth and always said, if you fall of your bike, you might break some bones or get some nasty scratches, but if you fall in water and can’t swim, you die. I could swim competently when I was 6 or 7. My daughters could swim (front crawl) out to rafts in both lakes and in the ocean when they were 6. The shallow end of swimming pools were for sooks!

      Been over the Raglan Bar a few times as a kid. The Bar can be unpredictable but I was always ready. What I was talking about before – if you are in the water on the Bar, and the tide is going out, never fight it. Go with the flow and come in at Ruapuke Beach.

Christchurch is now boasting that it has reduced emissions by 20% by switching many of the buses over to electric.

Well I’ll tell them how to drop the emissions by 66% overnight.

Just cut the number of buses to a third of what it is now.

It is very rare to see a bus with more than 5 passengers in Chch. Most of the time there are 2 or less. Buses run very frequently – much of the time with just one or even zero passengers on board.

Therefore the number of buses could be cut by a large number without filling up the buses. However, I’ll be gracious and make it 3.

We’re all paying the price for subsidising this useless service.

  I frequently see the bus which operates between Wellsford and Warkworth. Occasionally it has one or two passengers its mostly empty. I believe locals demanded the service who is subsidizing the service ? Possibly I see it at non peak times . Can anybody elaborate?

  I just had a wee drive from the Chch city centre to Sumner and back.
  
  On the way out, I passed 5 buses coming from Sumner and on the way back I passed 6 going out. That’s more than one every 5 minutes.
  
  Of those 11 buses:
  * One had approx 8 passengers (the most I have seen for a very long time).
  * Three had 3 or 4 passengers.
  * Three had two passengers.
  * Four had zero passengers.
  
  Each of those buses is chomping about 30-40 litres of diesel per 100km, as well as 4 drivers (that’s how many it requires to put 1 driver on 1 shift), as well as the costs of maintenance and depreciation on a $400k bus (rough guess, $2-3 per km).
  
  The cost of running this service is insane. It would be far cheaper for the tax/rate payers to provide “free” Uber services and the emissions would be far less too (ignoring whether or not emissions are really a problem).

Someone mentioned this last week or so, but I just made my submission on the changes to Firearms admin and permits and fees.
“Pay to Police”.

New fees are being tacked onto everything (in the realm of $1000-2000), per unit charges, and existing fees going up 200-400%.
Only things I agree with were the tourists wanting to hunt here might pay $400 instead of $25 to trophy hunt. They are not taxpayers.
Also if you lose a license, you might pay $40 to replace it.
But the other sums being asked are high enough to be harmful to individuals and the firearms community around deterring open activity or compliance, driving out people entirely , or raising prices for purchasers.

The cost recovery is due to the need to administer a firearms registry, new much more complex licensing, and admin for permits for activities like sales or transporting a firearm.etc.

All of this was policy the police wanted, and now they seek to take it out from the impacted community.

This is to “….cover the cost of regulatory activity”.

If they want money for what is now a policy, they should resource for it or talk to the government. The sheer cheek of this! Or take $ from the proceeds of crime.

This is going to kill off community events like military commemorations, or amateur theatricals (which are primarily volunteers who already spent up large) or even kill off the sales in the halls ‘gun shows’ where small dealers might have sold on tables…and the police would attend and walk amongst us.
Now you pay for the privilege all this via requested permits, and the police pay for their charge out onsite!

If Police have made this all too complex, then that is on them. There is NO cost to the police as such as they are already funded by the taxpayer. The only costs is ‘opportunity cost’ of doing something different. But when I read the police in Auckland were taking time out to weave flax baskets (literally true) then I think attending a gun show is somewhere in the middle between that and pursuing of gangs shooting up the suburbs.

They have already made admin more complex for gun clubs and shooting ranges, which is likely to make such community groups or legal locations close.

Licence applications – modelled between >$200 to $700 based on $ ‘cost recovery’.

Here are some examples:
Gun show -application fee $1,020-1,120 plus staff member (per staff) $1,120-1,240 per day).

Museum curator, if cost recovery, proposed in ballpark of $2,000 (which might lead to some museums ditching heritage items).

Ensdorsements (collector, theatrical, prohibited, etc.) $1,200 to $1500 proposed per endorsement.

Permission to transport an endorsed item – $1020-$1,100 permit plus $560-620 for staff member to attend.

Theatrical Armourer permit – $2,100-2,300.

Only thing proposed as free was the posting of firearms internally (permit to mail), which was however going to be reviewed once the firearms registry was in place!

Another reason I can’t wait for the election!
And the irony is that the police inappropriately gave a licence to Tarrant, but not following their own process around character reference. i.e they have hijacked the tragedy from their own fuck-up, and using it to go after the compliant and law abiding!

    Even within UN organisations the definitions are widely different.
    
    UNESCO uses 15 to 24.
    UNICEF/WHO use 15-24. “Young people” are 10 to 24.
    UN Habitat youth fund uses 15 to 32.
    
    African Youth Charter uses 15-35!

  I think it’s worth pointing out that right now should a local dairy owner or worker respond to the next machete-wielding assailant by giving them a blast in the chest with a 12-gauge, there wouldn’t be a jury in the land that would convict him or her.

  I suppose that being Muslim, they could legitimately feel some sense of persecution and this has been made worse by what appears on face value to potentially be another cross-cultural attack on a Muslim person.
  
  Of course at this stage we don’t know whether this was motivated by the victim being a Muslim or whether they’re just strumming this guitar string to garner some sympathy. For all we know at this stage it could be a lovers’ tiff gone wrong.
  
  Still, a terrible business and no person deserves this type of attack.

Bullshit.

I bet the teachers and staff are bending over backwards to tolerate bad behaviour from Maori to put a thumb on the scale and avoid being called racist. And yet, even with a huge thumb on the scale the Maori “students” are still getting sanctioned at twice the rate.

I’ll bet a servo pie that a huge number of those Maori kids that are being suspended are being suspended by Maori staff. ie. those who do not feel the pressure of being labelled as racists and can therefore have the freedom to act.

And, of course, the only solution is the Maorify schools more.

After the success taking over 3W, are the 3Rs next?

The wife of the man who was put in an induced coma after an alleged altercation with a group of street racers says he is now awake, blinking and squeezing hands in what she is calling a “Christmas miracle”.

Mark Maclean was badly injured on December 9 in the driveway of his home on the corner of Falls Rd and Hudson Rd in Warkworth, north Auckland, about 11.30pm.

  China has been lying about population for 20 years, local govts lying to get more money for schools. Fuxian yi (US based demographics researcher) has used various publicly available proxies for population (baby and childhood goods sales, education info, and a huge Shanghai police data leak) to show that their population is closer to 1.28billion than 1.4, there are 1/3rd as many 5 year olds as 50, working age pop is dropping and women of child bearing age is about to decline steeply. China is in major demographic trouble, hopefully enough to limit the military hegemonic danger they pose to the world

  Fear not, the global population is peaking soon (within the next 50 years) and has already peaked in many countries.
  
  It is only really Africa and Pacific that have not got the message yet.
  
  The people that are still breeding fast are those who tend to consume less resources (eg. Africans), so global resource consumption is going to likely start sliding soon.
  
  Africa is a machine that converts calories into people. It lives on hand outs. When those hand outs dry up their breeding will slump. Fast.
  
  As food prices go up, that will also impact Africa first. I would expect we’re going to see a demographic blip in Africa caused by the food prices/shortages due to the Ukraine war. Even with that war ending (sometime), the prices will likely fall but then start to rise again as global production falls and prices go up.
  
  Rich countries can only hand out foreign aid when they have enough money to do so. They won’t be able to as economies slump.

The official results for the Hamilton West by-election are in, confirming National’s Tama Potaka’s win over Labour’s Georgie Dansey.

According to the Electoral Commission’s official results, which also include special votes, 15,104 votes were recorded in the December 10 by-election.

Of those, 6974 votes (46 percent) went to Potaka, while 4541 (30 percent) went to Dansey. The ACT Party’s Dr James McDowall received 1515 (10 percent), while former MP Dr Gaurav Sharma received 1242 (8 percent).

The rest of the votes were spread among other candidates, while 37 were informal votes.

An interesting snippet coming out of reporting of the initial court appearance of the alleged Massey (Akld) murderer:

“Fayyaz said there were a couple of thousand ethnic Hazaras in Auckland, with most coming from the Tampa. In 2001 438 refugees were rescued by the Norwegian container ship Tampa”.

Just goes to show that each refugee brings several.
