    In no particular order…..
    
    Merging the polytechs (Hipkins)
    
    The modern learning environment (National)
    
    Removing primary standard national assesment and replacing it with…. nothing (Hipkins).
    
    Blocking / reducing additional rewards for high performing principals (Hipkins)
    
    Blocking / reducing out of zone acceptance (Hipkins).
    
    Punishing high performance schools by limiting their rolls and forcing those children to go to poor performing schools so that the poor performing schools rolls dont suffer. (Hipkins / ministry of Ed)
    
    Needlessly closing schools during Covid (Hipkins)
    
    Moving from phonic to repetition for learning to read and then after 40 years refusing to admit the new system is worse than the old.
    
    So many stupid major educational decisions.
    
    These all ignore the basic issue that the ministry of Ed is not fit for purpose and is not focused on the right things. For some reason their mission statement isn’t ‘The very best academic outcomes for all NZ children’ but is instead ‘We shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes.’ The children are not the focus, the system is. We see this all through the education system.

      To be fair, school zoning predates any involvement by Hipkins.
      
      The unions control this policy (like they also control their political arm – The Labour Party) with their brain dead instance that all teachers are equal and therefore all schools are equal.

        I’m referring to the process where the ministry, under Hipkins, generally reduced the zone sizes and overlaps. They then blocked schools from taking many / any out of zone children.
        
        This meant that children that had two options and choose the excellent school now had only the poor school as an option. This was done with the stated intention of protecting the roll sizes at some schools. So instead of fixing a poorly performing school they simply now force unlucky children to attend.

        What I was recommending to people (on this very platform) back in 2007 was that parents who live in zone for a popular school but have their kids at a private school all turn up at their local school on the first day of term. If you live in zone the school (at that time) was not allowed to turn you away.

    Hipkins has 9 months and a very wary public so one hopes he won’t be nearly as successful at self enrichment as Adern.

        We also need better controls on government spending and conflicts of interest so inexperienced and undereducated labour mps are discouraged from seeking public office to make their fortunes.

    Yes there has been, mandating that they be vaccinated. Note that many schools overseas are now introducing defibrillators into classrooms in case children have heart attacks.

    Hipkins horrible Covid performance will come back to haunt him. I just hope it is all exposed before the election. Thing’s seem to be starting to unravel in the UK & USA with more in the mass media reporting on non-covid excess deaths, the ineffectiveness and BS surrounding the jab, and how govt lockdowns cost literally billions and ruined so many lives.
    Dr John Campbell in the UK a few days ago reported that UK excess deaths in the first few weeks of 2023 are now tracking more than 30% higher than historical averages – and his words “these aren’t covid deaths”.

      Some of the excess deaths are Covid, but very likely the infections are the result of damaged immune systems that have been programmed to be tolerant of SARS-CoV-2 rather than to fight it. This is the IgG3 to IgG4 class switching phenomenon that has recently come to light, and which would have come to light had the ‘vaccines’ undergone normal pharmacological trials.

  What’s incredible is that during the run of a pandemic, the primary preventable comorbidity of which is obesity, and during which the expression of the slightest contrarian thought or questioning regarding public health strategy would get you pilloried, it was fine for the govt’s feminist media shills to pump out weekly articles describing how empowered they felt about putting on their “quarantine fifteen” during lockdown, and for a certain university’s “Fat Studies” department to continue to draw funding to push the view that it isn’t the spare two hundred odd pounds putting you at risk, but the “fatphobia” and “weight stigma”.

  It may be coincidence, but when I first went there in 1994 there was next to no American style junk food. Not just McDonalds, but now there’s doughnuts, sugar laden drinks and all sorts of stuff.
  Out in the country where all that stuff is scarce and too expensive the populace is noticeably thinner.

    Tourists can learn Thai cooking. My Thai friend (now in Alaska) came from the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok. Her job was at Baipai Thai Cooking School. A van would pick up tourists from hotels and they would have 1/2 day or full day of cooking and eating. Full day included a trip to the floating market.
    Pattip’s job was translating and taking photos then email them to client’s email.
    What a neat job, meeting people from all over the World.
    Reason for my comment is you would struggle to get fat on Thai food.

  Agree. NZ does not have a “climate emergency” but certainly has an obesity emergency. Negotiating the aisles of my local supermarket reminds me of the Suez Canal when it had a ship stuck in it. Obesity comes from eating too much and eating crap food too much.

After the endless nauseating stories of on-line abuse Ardern received, supposedly driving her to resign, we have an English comedian on the Project (TV3) suggesting NZ could crack Chris Luxon’s head to avoid the egg shortage, saying Luxon was New Zealand’s Humpty Dumpty.
So its ok for a nationwide TV show to publicly ridicule/abuse Chris Luxon, but when some disgruntled people negatively affected by Ardern’s draconian policies make a comment, that is not ok.
No one can condone abuse in any form of another person, but as we hear more that Ardern had discussed her departure with close colleagues at the end of last year, it is becoming clear her resignation was an orchestrated stunt to head off falling polls and the allow Labour to ditch unpopular policies and to implement a further tax take.
It seems those researching on-line abuse directed at Ardern have had to go to a number of obscure social media platforms to justify their headlines; but with under 5000 events found, or 0.1% of population, it gives you some context of the magnitude of the supposed issue.
Labour truly is untrustworthy and a very deceitful bunch, but you won’t see any hard questions being asked on them from the MSM.

    IMO, the majority of people in NZ and in a few other countries have come to believe and rely on others telling them what to think.
    Our MSM and Politicians rely on this tactic. For confirmation, take a look at the number of people TV Interviewers on the street lineup and ask questions about 3/5Waters. They ask enough people until they get the consensus they have been sent to seek and then put the video to air after favourable editing and voice-over lead-in.

  I’ve just mad a formal complaint to the media council about this.
  Newshub need to be taken to task over this . They and other media outlets have written at length about the nasty media comments that Ardern has faced, yet see nothing wrong with allowing a guest on their show to basically joke about murdering Chris Luxon by smashing his skull open , and then put it on their news website and Facebook page ,and frame it as funny.
  We all know how funny they’d see it, and the speed of the police response, if we rang their head office , saying we’d like to crack open the skull of their CEO.
  People need to complain to the media council and direct to Newshub

  I couldn’t believe it when I read about Carr’s remarks. I imagine if he’s said anything remotely derogatory about the former PM he’d have been just about physically removed from the set.
  
  I really have a problem with someone who flaunted her “youthful feminity”, being a mum, and her engagement and nearly wedding, and being happy to front up for magazine glamour shots taking exception to any comments regarded as misogynistic. A cake and eat it situation.

  And let’s not forget that Ardern was praised to the extreme, put on a pedestal by the media, and given an easy ride as PM. These factors completely outweigh any negativity that got past her censors.
  In my opinion she deserved the abuse she got – for her utter deception, cover-ups and incompetence, in major issues such as our democracy, health and freedoms. With the completely biased media coverage and shutting down of opinion, what else were New Zealanders able to do?

      1. Take the number of downticks and divide it by the number of comments disproving the point you made.
      
      2. The smaller the resulting number the more accurate your point was.
      
      3. If the calculator says “cannot divide by zero” you can bet money your point was 100% correct and a direct hit.

    Hipkins knows that cogovernance is the 600 kg gorilla sitting in the room. They don’t want to talk about it but it is the main reason they are seen as treasonous. Hippy needs to send a signal that it is on the back burner until after they win the election- God forbid!

      You can 100% be sure that any policy that is dropped now will be back on the table 6mths after the election if they win. They really believed in these policies and were willing to ignore public opinion on them, the only thnig that has changed is they need to win an election to get them through.
      
      If they promise 3 waters is gone, for example, you can be sure it will be replaced by the ‘Aoteroa clean water initiative’. We promise its a totally different thing.

  1. He answers questions.
  2. If he does not have an answer he says so.
  3. He has been known to say sorry.
  
  At this stage and probably for another couple of weeks he has this get out of jail free card to help him.
  
  `I have only had 2 days in the position and want to do an in depth check on this – so I will be making an announcement later’.

    Rubbish. Hipkins is playing to a script, that I’ve witnessed before (it is the same script Gordon Brown used in the UK). There are two standard stock replies to all questions, and these will be used to answerv all questions when asked anything, these are:
    1. “I haven’t been in the job long enough to look into it (this despite being part of Jacinda’s kitchen cabinet, & so knew/knows what was/is happening as he was part of the decision making)”; and
    2. “I get it about ……………… (whatever), and be certain I understand that hard working families/people are doing it hard at the moment, and the government I lead will ensure fairness in the tax system, because there are people not paying their fair share.”
    
    In addition, he will:
    1. Appear everywhere, as though he is Superman, no problem will be to small for Chippie to be there and appear as though he is solving all ills;
    2. Labour will play the politics of envy, hence Chippy’s comments about tax. Labour will point fingers at mythical people not paying tax, or doing too well with no effort, while real people are doing it hard and are paying too much. Of course it will be National/Act who are supporting these mythical freeloaders not paying their fair share of tax;
    3. The government will be all about Chippy, until he gets the wobbles and the wheels fall off. And when the wheels fall off, the government will be seen to be as inept and lacking in ideas as what to do, as ever they were.

  What we have heard is, more taxes. That’s pretty much it. I’d have put a bit of money on change to super, but there’s not enough time for that other than as an election manifesto to campaign on. If he does, look for eligibility exclusions, not an age shift.

  I suggest we should challenge the data, how it was gathered, by whom, and for what purpose (that’s assuming the data exists).
  As for all the rhetoric currently being used by our MSM to justify their PGIF funding, there is probably no data available and if challenged, they would be unable to describe the inputs, processes, and outputs of their so-called data analysis.

I have made the mistake of venturing back to Stuff in the last week or so and reading the articles about the level of vitriol directed towards Jacinda Ardern. Stuff seems unaware that more than most it has stoked the flames of hatred towards MPs. For example The way it attacked Judith Collins and the many cartoons were surely driven by hate. I would suggest that its recent campaign against Sam Uffindell was driven by hatred of the National Party. I will try and stay away from Stuff. Even the very real issue about Jacinda Ardern is just another political tool for the likes of Stuff to attack who they perceive to be their political enemy which is the centre right.

We have a government that trumpets concepts of diversity and inclusion, but dare to express an opinion outside of theirs and you get denounced as some kind of subhuman extremist. To be fair, not so much by the now former, but still worst, PM in our history, but by her attack dogs in the media. Just as H. Clinton lost an election by referring to those she disagreed with as ‘deplorables’ here in NZ we now get ‘misogynists’. Slurring the majority who do not support this clown show of a government is no way to win back votes. They’re heading for an electoral disaster and they deserve nothing less.

Over the holiday period I have been listening to our local radio station. It’s very refreshing. No politics or climate change, local news, local ads, no people interviewing their typewriters, and good music. Not sure I will even return to Hosking when he eventually arrives back.

I have just had the misfortune to see this morning’s TV1 news presenters. With all the attention given by the media to firearm suppression , especially with another 10 dead in this weeks American dance room killings, these muppets behaved like children and spent prime tv time shooting each other with a “Fly assault” gun.
.
It seems the fly killing device shoots salt grains instead of lead but these clowns exhibited sheer incompetence in knowing how to use it, shooting other presenters and waving it around with unexpected discharges.
WHAT a splendid media example of fire arms use for New Zealanders.
.
We law abiding firearms users suffer enough from poor media publicity without having media muppets such as these, playing with play guns on National TV News programmes.

Maggie Pie, I watched me some of the Aussie Open last night.

Some observations:

• Why is it, just 77 years from the 22nd Century, technology hasn’t yet come up with footwear soles that don’t squeak to kingdom come when used on hard surfaces?
• And why is it that, after a player gets given new balls (at obscenely-short intervals) he then bounces sh*ttery, before each serve, out of said balls … hence effectively making them ‘old’ balls before his opponent has to attempt to return then?
• Whatever happened to the grunting girls? Is there now a secondary, untelevised Tennis circuit for the lasses who would, seemingly, orgasm either – yep, innuendo follows – receiving or giving serve?
• Has there ever been a top-level match when you see the on-court Rolex watch move to 59 minutes past the hour WITHOUT the helpful commentator then observing ‘and the players have now been on court for (x) hours’?

Don’t start me, either, on other quirks of your sport like:

• Inane chest-puffery after even the easiest of points is won (like if an opponent makes an unenforced error)

• Excessive fist-pumping (like after, good friggin’ grief, each and every point)

• And, although I saw no Doubles match last night, the fist-bumping there, after, again, each and every point.

• Tiresome ‘Ooh-I’ve-won-a-contest-where-there-were-only-two-possible-winners-so-lemme-collapse-to-the-ground-in-faux-shock’ routines.

But, you know me, right? A kind, compassionate, tolerant, super-modest beast et cetera et cetera. So no complaining…

I have been pondering the many and varied attempts in the media to capture the essence of Ardern’s Prime Ministership. There is almost an air of desperation to rewrite history so she is seen as having achieved a great deal. It is almost like….. “you are going to believe she was successful whether you like it or not”.

Much of the commentary centres around her handling of what writers called “crises” that occurred during her time as PM. She used some unusual stances and adopted some catchy lines but was her reaction and management any better or any more effective than the PM who was in power when Air NZ/Erebus occurred? Ot Ballantynes fire? Or the Brunner mine collapse?

We expect our leaders to show their strength and sympathy, to speak and act on our behalf and that always do. I struggle to see how Ardern showed any greater or more poignant consideration.

A few commentators have focused on her total lack of ability to match delivery with grandiose and idealistic claims of reform or transition of the nation. Reality says she was the most hopeless of all recent leaders including the like of Bill Rowling.

Her overseas efforts are all words and little substance. What actual gains was she primarily responsible for? So many people fell for the flowery claims, the appearance with her child and other PR gimmicks.

Once the flush of her sudden throwing in the towel has passed history, in sensible hands will judge her harshly.

Fascinating how many reporters are saying the ‘real’ reason for Ardern scuttling off is the misogyny and vitriol directed at her. She says that is not the reason. Nothing supports the rights of women more than denying them their own voice!
How about we all accept there was a lot of nastiness, but that’s not new. Also, she was a good figurehead during a crisis when leaders have to learn their lines and stick to them. But she got carried away by her own eloquence and promised far more than she could ever deliver, especially with the competing interests within her own party.
Hipkins won’t be much different but his Milky Bar Kid demeanour may win votes.
The only way to get rid of them is to give two ticks to National. Anything else gives them the chance to slip back in.

In Labour’s sixth year in Govt I see today Michael Wood still claiming that investment he claims he needs to make on Auckland rail is the direct consequence of misdeeds from National.

On the last 24 years, Labour has been in government for 15 of them – and this is the very same Labour government which has squandered billions of dollars in the last five years on ‘nice to haves’ rather than ‘must haves’.

But he is still trying to blame National.

I used to think Wood was just feeble. Young, inexperienced and a bit stupid. Certainly blinded by ideology, but hey what Labour MP isn’t?

But now I think him a straight-out bullshitter. He is now attempting to deliberately mislead New Zealanders about the current state of affairs and their origins.

If anything he should be blaming Ardern and that great waste of space Phil Twyford who spectacularly failed as both Minister of Housing (and KiwiBuild, snigger) and Minister of Transport 2017-20 – who was demoted to being a Minister outside cabinet for his efforts and is now just making up the numbers as Minister for Disarmament (snort!).

I distinctly recall him braying and carping to all who would listen, when Key was in, about how much better than National he’d do when in government.

But no, all gong and no dinner just like the rest of his mates.

    Seems very unlikely Steve, the way the founding fathers set the constitution up was brilliant.
    The Constitution’s Article V requires that an amendment be proposed by two-thirds of the House and Senate, or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the state legislatures. It is up to the states to approve a new amendment, with three-quarters of the states voting to ratifying it.
    
    Of the twenty seven ammendments, none of them protect the right to an abortion.
    That was why the Supreme court ruling gives individual states the power to set their own abortion laws without concern of running afoul of Roe, which had permitted abortions during the first two trimesters of pregnancy.

Assuming National do what they say they’re going to do, bro-governance is now dead, for the time being at least.

Now, Labour Maori MPs will never be put to the test. They’ll never have their policies put into practice and scrutinised. They’ll never have to answer to large-scale investigations and enquiries from Treasury as to why the cost of laying a kilometre of water pipe has tripled under 3 Waters, why patient outcomes are poorer and more costly under the new Maori Health Authority, why certain tribal elites are cruising around town in new Range Rovers, looking trim and terrific in new suits and dresses and after recent bariatric surgery, their kids graduating from Harvard, Cornell, Yale and Oxbridge, while large numbers of youngsters are still seen within their rohe barefoot, snotty-nosed, and living in motels.

Yep, I reckon there’ll be a few mightily relieved folk around our Parliament this week.

  I mean, come on, when have you ever seen in response to a Labour Maori Caucus member or a Uni academic who, when saying co-governance ‘is working with great success’ in parts of the country, the interviewer asking the simple question “by what measure?”
  
  I never have.
  
  I think they mean by ‘success’ that it hasn’t yet fallen in a great screaming a acrimonious heap, as yet. That all the parties are all still on speaking terms.
  
  But what about outcomes? Are we under co-governance delivering more for less? More for the same? Might we be delivering less for more? Or perhaps delivering about the same for a bit more and taking twice or three times the time to do it?
  
  When have you once heard Jackson or Mahuta or others saying anything remotely approaching “Out of co-governance I expect x results, over y time and costing no more than z. And if this is not delivered I will regard co-governance as a failure and we shall abandon it.”
  
  Never, that’s when. And they’ll never say it either.
  
  Co-governance will be a success just because it’s in place. Never mind the cost. Never mind the negative social impacts. Never mind the poorer performance. Never mind the lack of change in poor social performance indicators. Never mind the waste of tax money taken from NZ families to pay for it. Never mind that those billions would have been better left in NZ families’ pockets, or spent better elsewhere. Never mind all of the great social and racial division that it caused.
  
  Never mind all of that.
  
  It is all a great success because democracy has changed.
  
  It is all a great success because ‘equity’.
  
  It is all a great success because the Treaty demands it.
  
  But all that really boils down to is ‘It is all a great success because we say it is.’
  
  Say what you like about National and ACT but, should they win the imminent election, then they can automatically and justifiably be thought of as a great, great government for the mere fact that they will have prevented the country suffering the massive, calamitous impacts of this sneaky, hidden, ill-defined, incompetently and incoherently argued, deceitfully handled, debasement of our democracy called co-governance.
  
  Damn you Labour. Damn you all to hell.

  Instead they replaced it with boring, non-offensive (“let’s talk about how you eat meat pies”) type crap called Today FM and their ratings have tanked even more!
  
  Whereas previously MagicTalk ran on the smell of an oily rag (they weren’t funded well, which contributed to some of their “issues”) but they were highly topical and relevant!
  
  And how MagicTalk were right along (eg when it came to their criticism of Labour’s poor management – gasp you can’t do that shouted the rest of the MSM at them)!
  
  They were ahead of their time (full credit to Peter, Sean, Ryan, Leah, Hayden & Tony) and if MediaWorks had supported them up until now (and fixed the missing FM coverage for Auckland etc) they would have been a ratings winner!
  
  Instead millions were put into its boring replacement and many listeners turned it off. The buck stops with the top, CEO Cam Wallace, someone with no previous broadcasting experience. He needs to bggar off and resign as he doesn’t have a clue.

So is this abuse? All OK to pretend shoot a former US president cause you don’t like him?

        I don’t believe it was a spontaneous thing set up by the idiots on the show. It must have had Producer and/or Director’s input to orchestrate the timeline, provide the props and direct the on-floor proceedings. Therefore, management were involved and must be held to account.
        Come on Willie Jackson, you’re the Minister of Broadcasting (or at least until someone else is appointed), do something about it, where sitting back laughing doesn’t cut it I’m afraid.

        I’m quite surprised that after all that has been talked about these last few days regarding Ardern’s resignation and the supposed reasons for it, that they thought this was a good idea.
        
        Employees of the state broadcaster should and must bend over backwards to demonstrate impartiality.
        
        But no, they just laugh at us. It’s all just a great bloody giggle.
        
        If they had a doll of Ardern, Mahuta, Helen Clark, Marama Davidson etc lying around do you think for a minute they would have used that instead?
        
        I bet $1,000 bucks they would have said “Hang on, let’s not use that, that’s the wrong message to send.”

        That footage is now going to go viral. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if it ends up on Sky News or Fox and elsewhere as an example of the institutional bias that exists and from New Zealand’s state broadcaster.
        
        The right will use that footage mercilessly.
        
        Amd I haven’t even mentioned the insult it will be perceived as by many, many Americans. Rightly or wrongly he was a US President, and the office deserves some little respect.
        
        An appalling lapse in judgement from many people here. They would have had 100 different potential targets kicking around the studio but, no, they just had to use a Trump doll, which they happened to have lying around.
        
        I’d this isn’t bringing TVNZ into disrepute, it’s (admittedly tattered)!reputation of professionalism and impartiality, I don’t know what is.

A great name for a spy features in a current political row in America.

It’s about Eric Swalwell, a California Congressman, being reappointed to the Congress Intelligence Committee.

Opponents accuse him of having links to a suspected Chinese spy in America. Her name is Christine Fang, but Fox News reports she’s also known as “Fang Fang”.

The online news site Axios says Fang targeted up-and-coming politicians and had “romantic or sexual relationships” with at least two mayors in the American Mid-West.

Axios says Fang took part in fundraising for Swalwell’s 2014 re-election campaign, according to a political operative and a current U.S. intelligence official.

CO-GOVERNANCE
This is on Newshub:
Addressing co-governance, Luxon says it’s been a “divisive and immature conversation over recent years”. He believes the Government hasn’t been upfront or transparent about its intentions and hasn’t taken people with it.

Luxon says National opposes co-governance in the delivery of public services, such as in health and justice. National supports the targeting of people on the basis of needs, not ethnicity. He says that might be “difficult news”, but it doesn’t mean National doesn’t want to involve Māori.

This doesn’t go anywhere near far enough in my view. Does anyone know WHY Luxon and National are always qualifying their opposition to co-governance by adding “in the delivery of public services”. Where in Luxons view is co-governance appropriate? In the management of public assets maybe? In political representation? In the consultation rackets?
IMO he shouldn’t be talking about “involving Maori” (he never seems to say he intends to involve other kiwis be they European, Chinese, Indian, Pasifika or any other ethnic group).
The fundamental issue, the elephant in the room if you like, is that if the English version of the TOW is correct, then we have a basis for moving forward as one people in a democracy. If the current Maori interpretation is adopted then we must create two classes of citizens (Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti) and we go forward with a form of Apartheid where your political rights depend on your ancestry.
Now I really don’t care whether some legal boffins determine the pre-eminence of the Maori interpretation. That simply cannot stand. In that case TOW must be scrapped and we have to adopt a new constitutional framework whereby we all citizens have equal rights. To do otherwise is madness.

Madness pays off for all the people who don’t want to work and want to take other people’s money. Therefore, with 54% of New Zealanders getting more money from other taxpayers than they earn for themselves, we are down the path of madness – fastly and furiously.

Watching the news, and at Ratana, a reporter asked Ms Ardern if she was ready to be a back-bench MP. She replied, “I’m ready to be lots of things. I’m ready to be a back-bench MP, I’m ready to be a sister, and a mum.”

My wife commented, “She didn’t say anything about being ready to be a wife …”

Now we all KNOW that if a National PM in the same position had made the same statement, the media would be all over it, breathlessly speculating about if this means the wedding’s off, etc. Tell me I’m wrong.

But will we see such speculations in the media tomorrow? Like hell.
