    After lazing in Opposition for nine years and thinking the Election would be impossible to win, Jacinda rose to the top with no policies worked out to bring with her, but was crowned Prime Minister by Winston anycase.
    Now Hipkins may cut Labour’s policies back to about the same level, and fate or unthinking voters put him in as well.
    And if Luxon “keeps his powder dry” as so many commenters here suggest, it may still be dry when he dies too.

  But they had over 200 working groups and spent a truck load of tax-payer money to cover their laziness in 9 years of opposition, so they must have a couple of new policies up their sleeves that haven’t used yet.
  Its just the same, all talk and no do and yet they get a free ride from the MSM, unlike the attack on National over their policy of indexing tax brackets to inflation taking away revenue to fix the cyclone damage – I just despair.

  By guess,an it’s an educated one would be this.
  1, extend the State of emergency by a week.
  2, next week in Parliament announce the cost of fixing the problem including re rerouting roads, relocating homes to and say how that money will have to be borrowed.
  3, at the end of the week announce he wants a mandate for those actions and is therefore calling an early election, which, he will have a better chance of winning than on 14 Oct.

      Usually the governing party will call for an early election if there is a constitutional crisis or can’t pass legislation etc.
      
      Not sure Labour could find a valid reason to call for an early election if none of the above is hindering them functioning as Govt?

    Who is going to pay ? – Christchurch was a good example – us – the taxpayers as it will buy votes another way.
    My guess in the $ billions if not tens, over time.
    I just heard where is State Insurance ? – sold by the Labour Government to UK giant Norwich, who disected it, and sold it to IAG (Australia).

Climate change is a scam. A transparent Marxist scam designed to depress western economies and shift prosperity to China and India and other so called “developing” nations.

Western economies are being deliberately deprived of cheap energy supplies while the developing countries still have increasing access.

Our economies are being further depressed by the associated scam of “renewable energy” which does not work as a replacement for hydrocarbons. It is too expensive, unreliable and also does nothing to reduce CO2 emissions. Such emissions as do not effect the climate anyway.

Why is it being pushed upon us? Just another means to cripple our economies and simultaneously boost the economies of China et al. Deprive us of cheap energy. Force us to use expensive and unreliable falsely named “renewable” energy.

How was the West ever led to believe this was a good idea? Well gullible politicians have a lot to do with it, and Christopher Luxon is one of them.

Mr Luxon’s failure to understand all of the above makes him (IMHO) unfit to be leader of Sid Holland’s National Party. The National Party was set up to fight global communism. Mr Luxon is instead using the party to betray us to those very forces.

Worse, he wants to embark on this course while the country enters into what will be a lengthy and extremely difficult recovery from massively destructive flooding.

How can we work our way out of this hole while we’re hobbled by the idiotic unworkable need to limit CO2 production? It is just utter madness.

Luxon needs to go. Otherwise people need to vote for the lesser of three evils which is the ACT party. National is useless as long as it is in the grip of the Climate Change cult.

  As you well know, any likely leaders of National will have the same views as Chris Luxon.
  
  National is not going to tailor their policies to meet the requirements of the 10% of voters who are irredentists on this and many other issues.
  
  As you note, there is still one party who might appeal, though I suspect this is also increasingly doubtful. I suspect a lot of younger Act members and supporters are not nearly so opposed to climate change policies as many here think.
  
  In any event much of what needs to be done is resilience building. There seems to be a pretty complete consensus on this. Perhaps not all the Greens. Many of them don’t see any value in effective transport links that suit private vehicles.

    I think the issue is more around what we do with regards to climate change. Is sending money overseas, electric cars etc the right way to deal with changes in the climate? Perhaps we would be better using those funds to improve our cities and towns; improved drainage, identifying and dealing with low lying areas, bigger stop banks on rivers, stopping new builds on cliffs, by rivers and seas etc.
    
    Labour and the Greens are entirely focused on CO2 reductions. The Maori party likely thinks its racist. Who knows what Nationals plan is. I think Act were looking more at managing the impact of climate change. Regardless if one believes in humans / CO2 causing climate changes, they are occuring and we need to change our building / lifestyles to better deal with them.

      Anyone who has witnessed Mr Luxon’s sudden pivot to the hard green left over the last few days as expressed during interviews on various news outlets knows. Aside from some unsubstantial waffling about technology, the plan is interchangeable with those of Labour/Greens.
      
      (Don’t get me wrong on this. I care about the National Party and look with sadness on what it has become today. It needs to be restored to an effective democratic alternative to socialism/ communism and stand for the freedom objectives its founders intended)

        This may seem incredulous to many, but I am starting to suspect that Luxon’s recent pivot to the green left is a tactical move.
        
        The idea is to set the groundwork for a coalition with the Greens. Why?
        
        Because both Willis and Luxon (mistakenly) see ACT as too far right. They may be forced into a coalition with them, but having the Greens in that coalition as well will neutralise ACT,
        
        As an alternative and depending on voting results, Luxon/Willis could leave ACT out altogether and just go with the Greens.
        
        Luxon should be prompted into a statement that makes it unmistakably clear that he will never under any circumstances enter into coalition with the Greens. If he will not do this, you know what it means.

        Think you read too much into things sometimes Red, after all there is NO way the Greens will ever go with National!
        
        Especially as the Greens start the purge to get rid of James Shaw (which they have with Shaw stepping down contesting Wellington Central and in his place will be a radical) … after all the only Greens left in the party will be their hardcore radicals and even a “Labour Lite” National as you would probably call them would be a step to far for them.

        ‘Accepting the science’ is such a strange thing to say.
        ‘Science’ isn’t a thing that I accept or deny.
        Why is it that politicians want me to ‘accept the science’, but actual scientists want to question everything, demand proof, perform experiments to confirm or disprove hypotheses etc?
        I read about some professor who was claiming that the evidence is mounting that ‘climate change’ (meaning our alleged contribution to it) is resulting in more/bigger earthquakes. Am I meant to just ‘accept’ that? I think not.
        Luxon might have accepted that this cyclone is the result of human-caused climate change, but science doesn’t make any such claims. As I understand it, attributing any weather event to ‘climate change’ is practically impossible, especially as extreme weather events are (if anything) trending downwards.
        How do you make any headway on the topic of ‘climate change’ when one group of people think the only answer is just to ‘accept the science’?

      I must say I find it funny that when people propose a National/Greens coalition, the reponse is always that the Greens are far too principled to go with National, which suggests people believe the Nats would be only too happy to partner the Greens.
      As a matter of interest the people I talk to say the Greens are the worst two faced liars in parliament, since Winston has given them a taste of government the baubles of power may prove intoxicating.

    I was in Hong Kong in 2006, I was very surprised to see it rain for two hours, 10 inches of rain, and not one sign of flooding, no surface flooding on roads at all, clearly the storm water Infrastructure is far superior than ours, this is what Luxon is talking about, building infrastructure to cope, but we have a fool spouting from a party that can say what ever they want but will not have to come up with anything.     Do you not think Wayne that there is more than a hint of indoctrination that has occurred on the anthroprogenic aspect of Climate Change? When did you last see a counter to this argument by an eminent scientist published in our media or cited by a NZ politician because they are out there – try Prof. Richard Lindzen as a starting point.       One of the secrets of former Labourites like Wayne is that he does know and is entirely satisfied with that. It’s why he’s entirely comfortable with the whole National-Sniffing-The-Centrist-Winds; they blow in the direction he wanted anyway.

    The problem, as I see it, is that “we must do something about climate change” is a soundbite, that takes zero notice of what climate change is. What climate change is, is limited to disaster porn where every bad weather event is blamed on climate change. Look what we’ve seen in the wake of cyclone Gabriel.
    
    But here’s the thing: the IPCC concludes (for example) that “There is low confidence in most reported long-term (multi-decadal to centennial) trends in tropical cyclone frequency- or intensity-based metrics.”. Similarly, the IPCC says In summary there is low confidence in the human influence on the changes in high river flows on the global scale. In general, there is low confidence in attributing changes in the probability or magnitude of flood events to human influence because of a limited number of studies, differences in the results of these studies and large modelling uncertainties.
    
    But no-one is willing to call the politicians out on their blatant politicking of a disaster, because, ironically, anyone who dared to do so would be accused of politicking (or being a “denier”).
    
    It would seem to me that ill thought out land use changes (forestry, building next to rivers then not keeping the channels free) are much more problematic than “climate change”. I.e. mitigation and adaptation are better solutions than killing the economy, because a strong and resilient economy can actually pay for adaptation and mitigation.

        As has been noted by many people in the O&G industry, that horse has bolted the stable permanently.
        
        I know you believe everything that Luxon says and on this issue I wish it were true, but there is nothing he or National (or ACT) can do that would overcome this for the simple reason that O&G companies know such policies would be reversed again with a future Labour government, and even nine years of a National-led government is not a long enough time horizon to risk such massive investments.
        
        Besides, how many “Waynes” do you think exist inside National who would also oppose the return of the O&G industry, given how strongly they support the “science” of AGW? It would be like the Maori seats or WFF in 2008, as he has explained.

        Yes, MM, the damage is done particularly in the face of the O&G industry (and mining) being one of the few industries left that provide good pay, even high pay, for working class people without high education.
        
        Now those people either go overseas or get some low-wage service industry job here.
        
        But I guess the proof is in the pudding given that New Plymouth voted Labour into power in 2020.

        Luckily there is a Leftie counter-balance nowadays due to much of the modern Left being corrupted by the grasping desire for money and the good life it brings – see Ardern and most of Labour, many of even the Greens and almost all of the Western Left. Hell, even Bernie Sanders owns several houses, along with one Patrisse Cullors, (a “trained Marxist” – to each according to her needs and all that).
        
        Sure it would be nice if they came to a rational realisation about the reality of AGW and the Quixotic pursuit of renewable energy – but I’ll take their silent corruption in keeping Huntly open and watching China and India explode their coal usage.

    Believing that humans can significantly impact it, and that we can somehow control events on a rock spinning round a sun which are travelling through a universe of incomprehensive scale, pretty much sums up the stupidity of the liberal left – and the idiots on the right who chase them.
    
    Even more moronic than believing in “zero covid” or that masks prevent transmission of an airborne virus. Or that mRNA vaccines do more good than harm.
    
    The amount of wasted time, money and energy on covid and the “climate” is phenomenal.
    
    We read yesterday that the substation that went underwater was identified as at risk in 2020.
    Nothing done about it, too worried about making sure somebody wore a useless mask when they went to the toilet in a restaurant, or that people dobbed on their neighbours for talking to each other.
    
    Now 37,000 homes are without power in HB.
    
    There’s just no fixing stupid sometimes.

    He admits to having the same objectives as Labour/Greens. He waffles about technology, but just listen. In reality, there is nothing there, and all he really has is a fallback position on alternative energy which is just not a real practical and affordable solution. And is virtually the same as Labour’s position anyway.

A day of days. Waking up to start the journey with my youngest who starts at Vic, with her older brother who finishes there this year.

Not quite an empty nest – the Gorgeous Blond still has hers (now ours) to go.

My Ms 18 Going on 35 is quietly nervous and has already explained to me she will blub when I drop her off. I, in turn explained thats OK, you wait until you see me blub 😀

The weather is conducive to the Right of Passage Roadie, thankfully. After having to rescue my son last night as he tried to cross the Island, only to encounter flooding and hail so deep on the road you couldn’t drive.

Thank god they changed the name from global warming cos I cant remember a more cold and shitty summer.

  National had planned (and started) several ‘Roads of National Significance”, but Labour cancelled them where possible, turned up for the expensive opening ceremonies for the ones they couldn’t cancel, borrowed $100B and spent the money on consultants, friends and relatives, ‘Road to Zero’ puff pieces (how prophetic was that catchphrase now), dreams of light rail and extra cycle lanes on bridges, creating apartheid Health and Education systems, and a host of other useless projects.
  Now they’ve been caught out they will try to impress us all with their new agenda to borrow even more to hire consultants to figure out what roads are needed.

The recent podium of truth showings have been amateurish. Hipkins looks lost, head down, showing no emotion. Eyes vacant.
It’s a tragedy what has happened, La Niña brings down cyclones to New Zealand, combined with the Tongan eruption adding more water vapour to the atmosphere, flooding was the outcome. Upkeep of roads and other infrastructure is critical, however this government has neglected both.

  The volume of water in the atmosphere attributable to the tongan volcano a year later is zero, upper atmosphere just can’t hold any significant amounts of water (too cold, it condenses out and falls), and residence time in atmosphere at lower levels is very short. Possible it contributed to ongoing La Nina conditions, and some high altitude ash may have cooled things a little during year.

The Esk Valley flood of April 1938:
This event lasted three days, bringing a metre of rain from Kotemaori to the watershed of the Tutaekuri river.
Parts of Napier, Clive and Hastings were flooded up to a metre deep.
The level of Lake Tutira rose by three metres after more than 300 mm of rain in 14 hours.
Worst hit was the Esk Valley, where the river rose 10 metres in one stretch.
Fifity-four bridges were washed away or severely damaged.
So much sediment washed into the river that the Esk Valley was left covered in silt one to three metres deep when floodwaters subsided.
Once the silt consolidated on farmland, new fences were installed; some posts were on top of the old buried posts.

So China currently holds about 65% of the worlds mineral refining capacity, after a 20 year, well publicised push to develop this deliberate resource strategy.
Sourcing resource will be a crucial part of any energy transition effort going forward. That share is larger than OPEC ever held of the oil refining capacity.
Is it any wonder why the US now wants us to believe China are “bad” and pushing the western world into conflict with China? This is the Middle East all over again.

Another thought for the day wrt the “Greens”. If they want to transition to renewable energy (which is basically a transition from liquid & gas energy to solids/metals energy i.e lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper, rare earths etc), where the hell is the mining that will be required going to be allowed to source the metals if they (Greens & many naive others) are against mining anywhere on the planet?

  Many were able to retain a semblance of ‘normal’ living by using their cars as an energy source.
  In Wairoa you were able to buy $40 worth of petrol, enough to let you drive to the petrol station, sit in a queue, fill up and drive home again.

  We did use our EV battery to power parts of the house. A 2KW 12VDC to 220VAC pure sinewave inverter enabled us to power lights and a slow cooker to bake a chicken. Could have also kept the fridge running but didn’t need to since power came back on after a while.
  
  The EV’s 40Kw battery kept the 12V battery charged while it was powering the inverter.

How he’s going to attempt to convince us that government stats are just a conspiracy we’ll be fun. He really does seem to suffer from cognitive dissidence when it comes to the vaccines. There appears to me to be a desperate scramble on the part of certain pharmaceutical companies to use any and all of their influence to suffocate any type of discussion or media scrutiny of their products and behaviour around the mRNA vaccines. Not that I’m connecting the two, that would be a ridiculous conspiracy.

How much effect will the disruption of milking and loss of feed have on production be this year.
How many herds will have to be dried off early.
Add to this the number of stock that have been lost to drowning.
Traditionally the Hawke’s Bay Apple Harvest runs from mid-February to late April.
So in some districts it could be a total loss of harvest.
So we will lose income and overseas funds and have greatly increased expediture.
What effect will the cyclone outcomes have on the battle against inflation.

      I don’t know how Tax is addressed on farming, but stock is low at Tax time in an engineering business. Besides all the other Tax, you pay Tax on what is in stock. Steel in the rack for example is a big one.

Health Alert on mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine Safety

The State Surgeon General is notifying the health care sector and public of a substantial increase in Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) reports from Florida after the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

In Florida alone, there was a 1,700% increase in VAERS reports after the release of the COVID-19 vaccine, compared to an increase of 400% in overall vaccine administration for the same time period.

The reporting of life-threatening conditions increased over 4,400%. This is a novel increase and was not seen during the 2009 H1N1 vaccination campaign. There is a need for additional unbiased research to better understand the COVID-19 vaccines’ short- and long-term effects.

We also know for a FACT that natural immunity is far better than the jab (which gives negative efficacy) and natural immunity won’t kill you or injure you which the jab can and does.

Between 16-20 inches (40 to 51 cms) fell in the Esk Valley.
The event became known as the Esk Valley flood.
When Piet Van Asch, founder of Aerial Mapping, took to the skies, he observed two-thirds of the area between Eskdale and Paki Paki under water.
Scinde Island (Napier Hill) was jutting out over the countryside which was almost a continous sheet of water.
Clive was covered by floodwaters when the Ngaruroro overflowed its banks.
Napier became isolated when the Waitangi Bridge, over the Tutaekuri River, sank in the middle after its centre piles were washed away.

Labour (and the left in general) firmly believes that global warming will increase weather impacts.
Yet they do absolutely nothing to prepare for (in their minds) the inevitable events to come.
— They pay millions to connect windmills yet leave substations on floodplains.
— They spend millions on battery car subsidies and let them contribute nothing to road maintenance yet build roads with inevitable slips and bridges with little flood clearance.
— They spend millions on windmills to capture of all the future wind yet do not remove trees near overhead wires.
— They spend millions on a battery Cook Straight ferry but don’t use the existing ferry to transport truckloads of food and generators to Gisborne. Why haven’t Gisborne and Napier ports been provisioned with suitable wharf facilities for these “inevitable” weather events?
…and of course they mandate battery cars but ban mining for the metals required to build them.

It almost like they haven’t thought this through. Or perhaps they are hypocritical virtue signalers.

What is going on at Hastings Civil Defence Headquarter?.

About an hour ago I called at Hastings Civil Defence Headquarters to volunteer our 18 year old grandson as a volunteer to help with the clean up. I was referred to the Ministry of Maori Development Office (aka Te Puni Kokiri).

WHY – this is a Hawkes Bay Civil Defence disaster!!!

It is not a Maori Disaster although they will be affected like every other Hawkes Bay citizen.

Note; Grandson has been working for an orchard owning company but will almost certainly lose his job as they have only 28acres from about 250 acres of orchard left standing.

The family of Bruce Willis has announced the actor is suffering from a form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia, or FTD for short.

Took my partner’s mum for lunch earlier then we went for a drive around the waterfront and up around Parnell way.
The sheer number of road-workers and council staff out there is amazing. In some areas the storm damage done over the last few weeks is obviously quite daunting.

Ma was worried what’s likely to happen in the short to medium term. She reckoned from what she could see, the vast majority of the maintenance-crews didn’t look to her like they’d be all that skilled these days.

No surprises. The same thing is happening in NZ. Anyone presenting with injuries asking if it is jab related is actively discouraged from going anywhere near that particular elephant in the room.
The people they asking about this are the same people who gave them the jab in the first place. They don’t want to acknowledge it. Funny that.

I know a number of people who are injured and getting absolutely zero joy. They are being fobbed off. ACC don’t want a bar of it.

I know a number of people who “died suddenly” over the last 18 months. No checking for possibly jab related death.

3 previously fit and healthy men in our (very small) street had heart attacks within a couple of months of getting the jab. Never investigated.

The cognitive dissonance among the majority of our medical people is astonishing. I don’t envy them what is going on in their heads right around now.

This can only be covered up for so long. The toll on their mental health will be incredible.

  I think I may have put this up for you before, but like others who’ve put IPCC conclusions in front of you I doubt you’ll read it, since you come across as more of a preacher than an interlocutor.

  A trillion-plus barrels of oil that can be lifted at $US 10 per barrel in nations that have little to no other income.
  
  It will be drilled, it will be lifted – and it will be sold.
  
  Oh, BTW, take a shufty at this graph of China’s coal-powered electricity production. From about 2000TWh in 1980 to some 22,000 TWh now.
  
  In other words, even if The Land Of The Long Black Carbon had managed to be zero-Carbon even thirty years ago we would – by your argument – be facing exactly the same AGW effects as we are now.
  
  Which means it’s time for mitigation and adapation rather than driving ourselves into the ground as the perfect destroys the good.

      Well given that the other side of this “emergency” is having more people, houses, etc than we had during Bola, the Wahine storm or the Auckland floods of 1935, I’d say we need bigger stormwater pipes for a start, plus pulling back on dumping housing into floodplains and such and better roads like the one currently being built to replace the Manawatu Gorge highway.
      
      I was living in the US during Hurricane Andrew and that was another MSM screamfest (also calculated to hurt a GOP President, as usual), but as people argued back in later years, if you have more people and stuff in a place like Florida then the cost of a disaster will be greater than similar storms of the past.
      
      But I’ll bet the MSM and the Warmanistas will push the cost-argument to its extreme as yet another theme to support the narrative of (drum roll) CLIMATE CRISIS!!!!
