Is it that the Government does not want the voting population to know “3 Waters” is not only a matter of “co-governance” to the Four Entity level, but “total governance” from the top down

On 6 August 2022, residents of Waimate District in South Canterbury were told their drinking water supply had breached national drinking water standard for nitrate. At a public meeting called to discuss the breach, one pregnant resident questioned authorities on the risks, “I’m two days off having a baby. So, I’ve been drinking this water my entire pregnancy until we were notified.”

How has Taumata Arowai responded to the breach?
Taumata Arowai was established after the contamination of Havelock North’s drinking water in 2016. It recommended a new regulator be set up to “have as its primary focus the quality of drinking water and the safety and excellence of all elements of the supply chain”.
Beyond being notified of the breach, it is unclear what role Taumata Arowai took or is taking. It has said little publicly on the breach and doesn’t appear to be investigating the contamination further. Neither the regulator nor ECan appears to be taking adequate action to address the cause of the contamination. Indeed, Taumata Arowai has said it was not involved in “establishing causes of contamination”.
Waimate District Council appears not to be expecting that either will step in as it has committed to purchasing a denitrification unit for the 600 people that rely on its supply. ECan has said it won’t contribute to this cost as it is not responsible for treatment of drinking water.

Tipa Mahuta chairs the Maori Advisory Council presiding over Taumata Arowai which in turn will preside over the “3 Waters” four Regional Entities.

Does Taumata Arowai want attention drawn to itself now, more than when it was established?
Does the Labour Government want you to understand this before the Election?

And of the minority who told the 1-News poll they understood “co-governance” in “3 Waters”, how many understood it is in fact “total governance”?
Or it seems that way – explain it otherwise.

      Start donating and / or volunteering.
      
      Don’t buy into the media (nor the opposition party spin doctors infiltrating KB) BS undermining Luxon.

    I was looking something up on the HUD website yesterday. Some web page headings were only in Maori. And all the other pages I looked at had the Maori name in larger bold font above the English name in smaller not bold font.

        Unfortunately RockyJ, that statement covers a lot of sins. They haven’t stated that it will extend to reverting Govt Entities to their original names or anything like it.
        IMO, having Te Reo words in upper case (large signage) and English words in lower case (small signage) isn’t co-governance. To me, it indicates Te Reo reigns supreme over English. Take a walk through a Hospital looking for a Dept and you will see what I mean.

        I do not care about the names of these places, the main thing is Nats will wipe cogovernace from services, name changes will be seen as wasted money, and it will cost 10s of millionss to change the names back, we have plenty of mess to fix before that, it will be interesting to see what names new entities are given, but i guess they are named by moronic leftie luvies from Labour

  IMHO 3 Waters and replacement legislation for the RMA are to remove power from elected Councils and place it in the hands of unelected appointed bodies with 50% representation from 15% of the population and 50% representation from 85% of the population plus as with the Health authorities the representatives of 15% of the population have a right over veto over the presentatives of 85% of the population.
  In other words handing power and control to a handful of Maori Elites.
  That folks is the Agenda and will continue to be the Agenda unless ACT is part of Government with enough influence to stop this Racist Apartheid.

    To reduce the 83 percent non-Maori portion to 50 percent, multiply by 0.6
    That then, rather than 1 person – 1 vote, is 3 votes to 0.6 of a vote

      Seems the strategy is ‘say nothing & no one will notice’.
      It really is time for National to grow a back bone and back ACT’s call for a referendum on the ToW and it’s impact on democracy in NZ.

  Do the problems that locals in Hawke’s Bay are experiencing after Cyclone Gabrielle draw attention to the potential 3 Waters outcomes.
  Sometimes despite the magnitude of the problem it still is best treated at a local level.
  Yes the drinking water, waste water and nitrification problems often need oversight, expertise and finance help but do four new entities do it best.

  In effect National has already tried that. that strategy has failed because voters are assessing him in his role as PM. They are not thinking of what he did over the last 5 years.
  
  To get ahead National needs to get some decisive policy out. Stuff that makes people get up and think. In my view, so far the policy is all too incremental and therefore is not getting cut through. Also no more than five things. Five big things that matter and can be remembered.

It would have the benefit of showing that they support better pay for teachers as well as showing that they are the party of the aspirational.       I agree timing is critical. However, there needs to be enough time for the policy to get cut through. That can’t be done in the last month.
      
      I would say one or two big policies before the budget. The rest in June, July and August. Also a nice teaser at the beginning of the election campaign.

        A tough one. We need housing, but one reason the country has performed poorly for years is the diversion of capital into property development.

    Competing on policy is ignoring the enormous elephant in the room – competence, delivery and execution.
    
    It matters not a bit that Labour might come up with the most brilliant policies on everything that matters to New Zealanders, there are two things that can’t be ignored (unless you’re the bought-and-paid-for MSM, of course):
    
    1. Labour’s ability to deliver on any policy is proven to be abysmal. Everything they have touched they have made worse. Half of them should have whiplash, so quickly have their pet projects been yanked – think light rail (Wood said it’s definitely happening, 2 hours later it was nixed), the harbour bridge cycle crossing which was only planned to appease a very small but noisy minority ($57m pissed up against the wall) and many others. Their track record is appalling, they have tits for hands.
    
    2. It’s what they haven’t ditched that should cause the most concern – 3 Waters, co-governance, the maorification of everything, renaming the country by stealth, handing enormous power to unelected, unaccountable tribal elites and making health and education the worst they’ve ever been. That’s not even getting into their corruption and venality, thinking the laws and rules don’t apply to them – looking at you Nash.
    
    National should be hammering these things, as ACT has been doing relentlessly and effectively.

      I am more interested in what they would want to do rather than just hearing rants about what Labour did with their time in power.
      
      It would be good to hear a vision about where we might be heading under a Nat govt. So far all we know for sure is that people with a family income of $160k and a kid in daycare will be get a $75/week subsidy ….
      
      And a raft of spending cuts (now) that will enable income tax cuts (later). That and the childcare subsidy will pull in low income voters by the trainload …..

      Happy for it to contuinue in its current format just not funded in part by me via taxpayer funding.
      
      Simply it should be forced to find its own funding. And given you and a hundreds of thousands of others like its content, well then you can take out an annual subscription to support its operating costs. Those subs can be supplemented by sponsorships and donations from large entities (excluding the Lotteries grants as Lotto etc are so broad based in sourcing income that they are psuedo-taxpayers funds…imho)
      
      The solution for you to keep your RNZ as it is and to satisfy virtually every ROC voter is to remove taxpayer funding for RNZ and make it an NGO that raises its own funding….

Last week we had the Health Minister apologising because the numbers she had been given were incorrect.

We had the PM apologising because the information that he had been given from the police was incorrect.

Last night we found out that the reported Ram Raid numbers were out, in some cases being under reported by a factor of 66%!

I have been looking at the Police Annual Report which shows an increase of police sworn officers from 2016 to 2022 of 1220 officers.

Yet in 2021, Poto Williams released to the Press a statement talking about an extra 2600 frontline police, and on Tuesday, the then Police Minister, Stuart Nash, was talking about only an extra 1700 frontline police.

Can we believe any number from this government?

I inadvertently found that I was on Morning Report this morning – not my usual programme, and I listened to I believe Corin Dann trying all the rude things he could get off and continually interrution of Mayor Brown being asked as to how he was going to pay for the Auckland Rail $1 billon plus stuff up.
I can understand that Brown got the job that the so called media wanted the Islander from South Auckland, but that is no reason to be so rude.
Sure Brown is not the easiest person to interview because he is older and takes his time to reply – given the opportunity.
What Dann tried and could not do was to get the Mayor to say that they would sell their Airport shares so he could get him in real Stock Exchange trouble.
Sad but think Dann was no better than had he been thinks he should be.
Arrogant, rude, and probably well overpaid.

  I see Mayor Brown is going to approach the government to get a bailout on Auckland’s share of the city link. He says the government at the time fucked up the contract.
  He also believes it’s not the council’s business to prop up the Community Law Offices and that it’s a central government responsibility. Maybe the council should have organized an alternative support system before pulling the plug.
  He also doesn’t believe the council should be in the daycare business. He talked about the extremely wealthy companies that run most of the daycare.
  They will become even wealthier if National becomes government. Something not quite right.

  “Sure Brown is not the easiest person to interview because he is older and takes his time to reply – given the opportunity.” The last part is telling, although I believe Brown’s interviewing performance is due to his personality and not age. He’s a doer not a talker, albeit it is an important part of his role and one he needs to improve on.
  
  Often, people mistake silence – which is really just time to think, I recommend it – for stupidity or slowness, and not only leap to judgement but also can’t stop themselves from filling in the uncomfortable silence by jumping in with another question.
  
  Interviewers genuinely interested in learning something, and giving their subject time to digest the question, formulate a response and deliver it, are far more effective than those who won’t wait for an answer, believe that their opinion is more important and more correct than their subject’s, and are trying their best to get a few gotchas. Mostly, they’re not even listening to the reply; they’re preparing their next gotcha question.

  As I have mentioned previously, I decided to stop visiting Stuff around two years ago, in part due to their constant crusading, championing of “causes” and forceful pushing of agendas.
  
  Without reading the story – I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else, and I will not visit the Stuff website – I obviously don’t know the details. But partly because of their relentless pursuit of their own agendas and crusades, I simply do not trust Stuff to report stories with neutrality, without bias or prejudice, and to present reports that might contain facts that they didn’t like but which were credible and relevant nonetheless. I believe that Stuff as on organisation lack the integrity to do so.

  Gravelroad, you are talking about Ngati Rahana. A Maori culture group set up way back when by ex-pat Maoris living in London. Thanks to the visa arrangements etc. the group gets a rotating influx of Maori Kiwis doing their backpacking OE, and with each new group, there is a regular updating of what is “correct” Maori protocol. These days, NZ groups in London cannot run a function without an obligatory inclusion of Ngati Rahana.
  
  The arrogance of the group got so bad 20 plus years ago, that one of my predecessors as President of the NZ Society in London asked “why do we always have to walk on egg shells because of that b****y group?”. It got to the point where we were looking to exclude them from functions because of their arrogant behaviour.

  Surely the “dance” was to welcome and pay respect to the King, the Head of the Commonwealth. Not his wife or other members of the retinue. The Queen Consort did exactly as she should have – moved away so as to not hog the honour being afforded to the King and Head of Commonwealth.

I know many people are suffering from “covid fatigue”, but please bear with me. This event is still ongoing, particularly in NZ where nobody in a position of authority will even acknowledge there are issues around all aspects of every response to covid by the government.

This includes not just the experimental jab itself, but all of the policies implemented to compel people to take part in this experiment. Because that is what this undoubtedly was and is, the biggest medical experiment every inflicted on the planet.

The admissions in this interview with the current German Health Minister are astounding and expose the truth.     Pavel – I was once told by my marketing tutor that NZ is the ideal testing ground for many ideas and products that are being proposed for markets and societies in the west. Our compact size, smaller population and values that generally make us compatible with other western countries make it cheaper and easier to try things here than anywhere else.

    The rational part of me says the risk profile has changed tremendously and a booster would be ill advised for anyone under 70 without serious co-morbities.

Bryce Wilkerson is one of our very top economic and political commentators. He is experienced, erudite and been proven right in his summations.

He has just released a report, “Made by Government: New Zealand’s Monetary Policy Mess”. The paper said the RBNZ and many other central banks around the world were too confident about their policy frameworks, their economic models, did not pay close enough attention to keeping inflation in check, and then acted too late to correct their mistakes.

It also said the RBNZ was distracted by its other mandate – maximising employment – along with a clutch of secondary issues such as climate change.

“New Zealand’s recent monetary policy outcomes are worse than unsatisfactory,” Wilkinson wrote. He criticised their forecasting and lack of suitably qualified staff. It is a very scathing analysis. The Reserve Bank’s mishandling has adversely affected house prices, inflation and government expenditure.

He rightly points the finger at the person who has overall responsibility – Finance Minister Grant Robertson. “The Minister of Finance bears the heaviest responsibility for monetary policy decisions.” Sadly, only a very small percentage of the population will read this or be persuaded by it.

  You and he forgot that it was Winston Peters that demanded the extra Jobs Stability mandate be added to the RBNZ remit along with controlling inflation within the 1-3% bound. Robertson agreed with him in 2017 as the price for labour to get into Government. So, when the old windbag stands up to spout on against the Labour Government that he installed, I hope someone has the balls to stand up and remind him that he is part of the cause for this inflation.

  Every time I’ve seen Luxon interviewed he looks startled/surprised. Possum in headlights, almost, as he attempts to spit soundbites (badly). He doesn’t have natural gravitas, which is quite unusual from someone with his corporate experience. If he has a sense of humour it’s not forthcoming either, and Hipkins has him over a barrel in that dept, which is a concern.

  Whilst I have lost all faith in Luxon over the Maureen Pugh fiasco, I despise Hipkins for his flip-flopping on policy made whilst he was at the top table of the Labour Govt and was in a position to prevent bad policy implementation.
  At least Luxon has the courage of his convictions (such as they are), whereas Hipkins has no convictions other than to lead my country further and further towards Socialism and he will change his mind as often as it takes to achieve this.

  Otago is being silly – their roots/foundations are that of a European institution. There is nothing wrong with that – it is what it is.
  
  To start using Māori identification is co-opting an identity that is not theirs – it belongs to someone else (Māoridom).
  
  But for an Māori led institution, like Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, it is entirely appropriate to use Māori identity.
  
  Otago are actually insulting Māoridom but are so woke they cannot see it.

    Otago once was an egalitarian university where any kids with UE could attend and graduate through to second year courses in law, medicine, accounting etc. Now it is becoming elite in that pakeha kids need to get high 90s to progress in medicine but Maori/Pasifika only need to be mid 70s average marks. And there is no quota anymore for that pathway, so pakeha kids are being excluded. The rebranding confirms for me that they want to erase European culture from the institution. Good luck getting overseas academics to work there. Or overseas students to study. Very insular and parochial. I hear non New Zealanders know they are not welcome and are already getting scarce at Otago.

  Yes Maggie – extending daylight savings out past the autumn equinox was always a bad idea. From 21 March the southern hemisphere doesn’t even get the lion’s share of the sun anymore, and I am also getting tired of the dark mornings.

I remember when

Isn’t it great how quickly what starts out as a lowering of the speed limits, for safety reasons, quickly diverts to CO2 reduction.
The Conversation: Why NZ should lower motorway speeds for SUVs and other high-emission vehilces: Len Gillman. AUT.
* According to AT, areas where speeds have been reduced have seen a 30% reduction in road deaths, compared with a 9% increase where they have not.
* A recent study found reducing maximum speed on NZ roads from 100 to 80 kph reduced fuel use by approx 15%.
* OECD estimated fuel consumption at 90 kph was 23% lower than at 110 kph.
* In the Netherlands increased enforcement of 100 kph speed limits reduced fuel use by approx 15%.
This resulted in savings of 40 million litres of petrol, 40 million litres of diesel and 15 million litres of LPG.

No doubt the increased costs at Supermarkets have resulted in less diesel being used by their suppliers and less CO2 being emitted.

  Going slower means taking longer to reach destination (not always, but in principle it does), which could also means using more fuel, although fuel consumption (in ltrs/100km) is lower. Every ICE is designed to work at its optimal efficiency at a certain load. For example for large marine engines it is at approx. 90% of maximum continuous rating. This is the load at which the specific fuel consumption (in gkW/h) is lowest.

Last night on TV3 news there was a report on
Flippy Chippy, when he was minister for police giving incorrect figures on ram raids.
He was understating the true figure by a factor of 3 in one case and x2 in another figure he quoted. The excuse is that it was because of the way the numbers are reported. Given that he has a history of telling lies should this weak excuse be accepted at face value. This has been glossed over by his fan girls in todays news by the wonderful work he is doing for cyclone victims.

  ie We can send more military help to the Pacific Islands, than we sent to the Cyclone zone.
  He declared a NATIONAL state of emergency and then promptly ONLY sent 700 personnel and 2 helicopters.

  9000 full time personnel
  Bridge building equipment and other qualified engineers
  An adequate Navy with the equipment to help.
  But instead we were forced to thank the exhausted volunteers, who did nearly ALL the heavy lifting.
  When in my opinion, the military should have lead the way and the help from all the volunteers gratefully accepted.

Economist Bryce Wilkinson, in an NZ Initiative analysis, says NZ’s Reserve Banks is among world central banks that inadvertently fuelled excessive inflation through their responses to Covid-19. Many imposed massive losses on taxpayers for little if any demonstrable public benefit,

A taste of Wilkinson’s views on the Reserve Bank:

The Reserve Bank’s Board, its governors and its MPC seriously lack relevant expertise.

Staff turnover at the top of the RBNZ has been extraordinarily high. Too many replacement staff lack expertise in economics, monetary policy, and financial market regulation. Instead, the focus seems to have been on those interested in diversity, climate change, and/or sustainability.

The RBNZ currently has nine governors. The Governor has appointed the other eight since 2018. Only two governors have an academic qualification in economics, and neither have a PhD in any subject. Even so, their pay is extraordinary by New Zealand standards. The salary bill for governors in the year to June 2022 was $5.44 million. If divided by nine, the average is $604,000.51.

anyone who owns/owned a small business has seen a dramatic fall in receipts and an increase in delayed and non payments.
I service tech for manufacturers, in every lunchroom these days, I seem to meet someone who has got out of their small business (one way or another).
Claiming “massive govt. compliance and costs”.

  You can see this everywhere. Far more closed down shops. Lots of closing down sales.
  
  Productivity is also down. The Gen-feeling people are less interested in working and more interested in finding their path etc. As the oldies retire things will really collapse faster.

I remember when

The Napier to Gisborne coastal shipping announcement has two benefits for the government.
Firstly it overcomes an immediate problem while also testing their future emphasis on coastal shipping.
The distance is stated to be 104 nautical miles, so leave Gisborne in late afternoon and start unloading in Napier first things next morning, depending on pilot and berth availability.
Fits in with overseas shipping companies wanting to use a limited number of NZ ports.

  When I first came to NZ in the 1960’s NZ had a plethora of coastal shipping companies.
  
  Northern Shipping Co, Richardsons, Holm Shipping and Nelson Shipping Co.
  
  They used the Manukau as one of the loading ports and serviced all the ports inc Gisborne which at the time was still a lighterage port for overseas shipping.
  
  Coastal Shipping, if a NZ Company, has to pay GST, ACC, NZ pay rates etc etc. Whereas the overseas companies like Maersk, MSC, etc etc ann ship the cargoes between ports cheaper as they use cheaper crews, register in FoCs etc.
  
  If cabotage was bought back then coastal shipping could operate on an equal footing with trucks and rail. If the Trans Tasman also became a lake for Australian and NZ Shipping Cos as it was pre 1990’s then both countries could have decent shipping industries.

    For coastal shipping and trucking to be on equal footing with rail it would require the government to sell its Kiwirail shareholding and for it to revert back to private ownership.
    Without grants from the taxpayer it would be broke.
    A private company should be so lucky.

James Renwick gives us his opinion about how much of the carnage from Gabrielle was due to ‘climate change’.
From the article….
“could not quantify the extent to which human-caused warming is responsible for the observed increase in heavy rain in this part of New Zealand”.
It also wraps ‘unprecedented’ in double quotes, implying the opposite was true.

The article leaves us with the impression that the next severe rainfall event is imminent by saying that he hopes the region has time to dry out before it occurs.

The attribution study he was involved in tells us that:
– a ‘normal’ number of tropical cyclones was predicted for this summer.
– the frequency of tropical cyclones is expected to _decrease_ a bit, but the intensity expected to increase a bit. However IPCC tells us they can’t really find any evidence of this happening.
– they didn’t actually look very far back through the historical record to see what the actual rainfall trend was, but compared recent observations with what some model thought we’d get without all that pesky gentle warming.

The headlines about the attribution study say this though…
– 30% more rainfall than before we warmed the planet.
– 4 times more likely to happen.

This, despite their predictions of a ‘normal’ cyclone season, and relling us they “could not quantify” the extent.
I wish they’d make their minds up, and let the IPCC know they’ve got this attribution thing down.

Anybody reading that study who comes away with the idea that human-caused CO2 emissions dunnit wasn’t reading carefully enough.

Birdlife International warns more extreme climate change snowstorms could see Antarctic seabirds become extinct: (Well not really)
Entire populations of Antarctic seabirds are failing to bred because of extreme ‘climate change’ related snowstorms.
December & January are usually a prime breeding time for the Antarctic petrel, South Polar Skua and the snow petrel.
They breed only on Antarctica.
New research (well not really new, some is at least a year old) has found that during December/January in 2021, and 2022, not one Skua nest was found in one of the main breeding areas.
The extreme snowstorm event was so enormous that it actually stopped breeding across a vast, vast (you can’t have too many vasts) scale of Antarectica, hundreds of if not thousands of kilometres (it nearly means the same distance) that we (BI) are aware of.
(Before you get into a panic.) “Not critically endangered and not necessarily vulnerable,” they stated.

I fail to understand the way these Ministers’ brains work, but it does seem to be effective.

The Minister is telling the teachers:
* there are parts of the education system that are “absolutely broken”
* we can do better

Isn’t this admitting that they have broken stuff and have screwed up? Or are they still pulling the 9 years of neglect bollocks?

Is anyone else baffled by the extraordinarily high cost estimates for major public works projects? They are literally orders of magnitude higher than previous major projects.

Light Rail has an estimate of around $30 billion. Lake Onslow has an estimate of over $16 billion. These figures make no sense, at least not to me.

The typical motorway project of 20 km comes in around $1 billion. Think Transmission Gully,
Hamilton Bypass, Puhoi to Warkworth. They typically take 6 years to build.

Waterview Tunnel (two 3 lane tunnels of 2.4 KM plus another 3 km of motorway) cost $2.7 billion ten years ago.

The Central Rail Loop with 3.45 km of twin rail tunnels plus 3 big stations will now cost $5.5 billion, including $1 billion in covid costs. It will take ten years to build.

But Onslow and Light Rail are enormously more expensive. How come?

The government doesn’t build them, private contractor do. The costings are done by independent consultants.

I know modern projects are gold plated compared to the past, just look at the finish and associated works of modern motorway projects.

At the projected costs, the projects become completely indefensible. For a comparison, Cross Rail in London, with 21 km of two way tunnels, cost $50 billion, but this is a vastly more complicated project than Light Rail in Auckland.

For comparison with Light Rail at $30 billion, that is enough money, based on recent motorway costs, to build 600 km of motorway. Enough to have a motorway from Whangarei to Wellington with a side branch to Tauranga, taking into account the 250 km that has already been built.

However, based on the recent enormous increases, could 20km of motorway be built for $1 billion? Would it now cost $2 billion?

I hope DPF does a specific item on this issue, because on the face of it, NZ would appear to have by far and away the highest construction costs in the world. This is making it impossible for governments to do anything serious.

  Actually Cross Rail has 42 km of tunnels (two way) with 21 km being cut and cover and 21 km being bored. Nine new stations and major changes to many other stations. Quite a bit for $50 billion compared the paltry Light Rail system for $30 billion.

  For other super expensive projects internationally, there is Hinkley C nuclear plant in the UK, with a cost of $66 billion and the ITER Fusion project in France with a cost of $50 billion. All NZ dollars. Both with more than ten years on construction.
  
  Hinckley C is an advanced twin reactor plant built to highest conceivable safety standards. It will produce 3, 200 MW of power. To put that in perspective, that is one third of the total installed electrical generation in New Zealand.
  
  The ITER project is the ultimate cutting edge large scale technology project in the world.
  
  In contrast Onslow would simply involve canals, pumps, a dam and some generators. Stuff that has been done on a large scale for over 100 years. Hoover Dam is nearly 90 years old. Arapuni is 94 years old. Hardly cutting edge technology.

      Lots such plants dating all the way back to the 1920’s. The pumps are essentially reversible turbines. A comparable sized plant is Cruchan Station on Loch Awe, built between 1959 and 1965. Capacity of 440 MW.

    This is just an assertion of mine, I have no hard evidence in support, but I have wondered in the past whether lefty politicians are an easier touch because they appear to measure success in terms of money spent – not results achieved.
    
    Just listen to them – the vast majority of public utterances, press releases, interview quotes are about how much they plan to spend on something, how much is ‘new money’, how much more it is than National spent – as of this is not only wonderful but to be greatly admired by us peasants.
    
    When was the last time you saw or heard a Labour politician give a detailed walkthrough of their portfolio achievements in office i.e. achievements, measurable results, how problems have actually improved or been eliminated?
    
    Instead, I feel, as they can’t show actual results (that would be embarrassing for them) they just bang on about money spent to create the illusion of progress. Of achievement.
    
    As a result, they are less discerning when a ministry, crown entity or outside organisation leader comes to them seeking funding for something. Their tendency is to approve it – so that it can become just one more thing to say they ‘are doing’ again to create the illusion that they’re busy and ‘getting things done’.
    
    I’d welcome your view Wayne.

      I mostly agree. I also note that Labour’s primary measure seems to be how much money was spent, not how much was actually done.
      
      So yes, a high figure then has appeal to them. But when the figure gets ludicrously high, then even Labour stalls.
      
      I know my next analogy doesn’t make that much sense. But here goes anyway.
      
      Australia is getting eleven nuclear submarines (3 bought from the US in the next few years, then 8 built in partnership with the UK and the US to a common design), employing a construction force of 10,000 in Adelaide for 15 years and operating the submarines with the massive shore facilities for 30 years. All for $380 billion. Built and operated for 30 years!
      
      Which is ten times the cost of Light Rail. However that is only the cost of building Light Rail, not the cost of operating it for 30 years. The build cost of Light Rail is about the same as the build cost of nine of the nuclear submarines. Guess which is the more complicated to build.

No it’s not. It’s all about teacher salaries and conditions.

Let’s not forget that the majority of these people featured opposed partnership schools, refused to have anything to do with them or the teachers who worked in them, they were ostracised. They refused to even share publicly-owner spaces or other resources with them.

They said, in effect, “we don’t care how much these new schools may increase student achievement, we don’t care how many students may be brought back on track, we don’t care how many lives might be beneficially changed – we will oppose them every step of the way, because they threaten our incumbency, interests, and protected positions.”

Does that sound like people who put the interest of our children first?

Cabinet minister Stuart Nash is set to come under further pressure amind revelations the Solicitor General had considered prosecuting him for contempt over public comments he had made after the arrest of Eli Epiha in the case of the killing of police constable Matthew Hunt.

Newstalk ZB today revealed the earlier occasion, which led to Nash being formally reprimanded for comments he had made on the Mike Hosking Breakfast show in June 2020.

What a shame, but won’t be the only business we hear close down or making huge cuts

Tradie staples Irvines and MacKenzie pies are being discontinued from June – with the manufacturer looking to cut 90 jobs at the Palmerston North and Oamaru factories.

Manufacturer Goodman Fielder blamed “significant cost increases including fuel, energy, labour, and raw ingredients” on the loss of the dairy and petrol station food item.

Anselm Haanen, Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa New Zealand Geographic chairperson, said six of the seven railway stations – two in South Auckland and four in central Auckland – were gifts from mana whenua.

After 15 of the last 24 years in power and nearly two full three year terms into this current administration here is New Zealand’s Education Minister admitting the system is crap. Broken.

And listen to all the talk about the teachers about how they are seen, heard and valued.

What about the tens of thousands of New Zealand kids and their families who are thoroughly failed by an education elite who refuse to entertain any alternatives to the state educational monopoly.

The whole thing makes me sick. Labour don’t give a shit.

  New Zealand needs education reform, but teachers fight this at every step. Even a return to last centuries style of education would be a leap forward.
  
  Instead our teachers prefer woke educational ideologies that embrace white shame and abhor the thought of professional accountability.
  
  At first glance, one would think teachers should have the same public support as the nurses… but, this is not so, simply because our slide in educational outcomes is so visibly tragic.
