This has become the normal for Cities and Towns around New Zealand because we have a Government out of their depth with no plans or consequences for the young people committing these crimes and a Prime Minister that is only concerned about being elected at the 2023 General Election in September.
This Government has crippled small business with their soft on crime approach and lies about how they have reduced this type of crime.

    I seriously believe (inside knowledge) that because of a serious shortage of staff, our prisons can’t cope with any more inmates than they already have. There already is serious overcrowding and almost no staff eg one corrections officer on a 6-6 overnight shift to 60 prisoners. Which is why my family member quit after 17 years. Far too dangerous. There is just no room at the inn and the judges have been told to keep as many people out of prison as possible.

      Just 4 years ago there were 10,000 prisoners. Now 7,500, with much of the current crime wave being committed or organised by the 2,500 out in the community.
      Corrections seemed to cope with 10,000. I am sure they can do so again.

    It goes back to Andrew Little ‘Justice Summit’ in 2017,
    Every aspect of the Justice system was told to reduced/remove arrests and sentences to achieve a 30% reduction in the prison population.

What used to be “3 Waters” –
The Great Reset coming today!

A balance is needed here in writing something shorter that will be read, hopefully making a point, but if possible covering several points is desired to show the scale of the stupage that goes into Labour’s “3 waters” and what they are now doing to still establish it, in the face of an Election.

■ Hipkins said he would not comment on a report today by NZME’s BusinessDesk that the Government had decided to expand the four water entities involved in the contentious water infrastructure reforms – known as Three Waters until recently – into 10.

Amalgamation of council assets into four great regional entities was required to allow loans against those bigger groups. If regions were roughly equal and loan ability 100 percent each for 4, surely now increasing 4 entries to 10 – so 2 and a half times the entities before – reduces each of those ten entries to 40 percent loan power of one of the four entities as set out in legislation already passed last sitting week last year.

“There is a massive bill coming down the pipeline, if you’ll excuse the pun, in terms of upgrading our water infrastructure – that’s what these reforms are about.”

1 – If you are going to drop “3 Waters” and call it “Affordable water infrastructure”, why would you divide the legislated four regional entries into ten, reducing their loan acquisition ability to 40 percent of what it was planned (consultant advised) to be?

    Well said – Just watch all the spin about preventing rate increases, with rates increasing by $9730 per year by 2054 if nothing done.
    Who’s modelling dreamed up that figure, as with the current levels of inflation, my rates will increase well above $9730 a year by 2054 at this rate.
    Time for National/ACT to hammer the co governance nonsense, especially the Te Mana O Wai statements and the legal effect they have.

    Furthermore with iwi getting special governance powers, there is no laws written about how they must consult or be elected. Eg how many of us have a part Maori family member in our household. How do they vote f or the iwi portion of these governance roles? Will the lgoima rules apply to iwi. Do they have to consult. What about Maori who are not signed up with a particular tribe. Do those linked to multiple tribes get multiple votes.? How is the voting process made private within iwi?
    
    For the Swedish Sami peoples parliament there is a direct vote f or their representatives at polling booths.

    I still want to know who these entities are that are willing to lend to 4, 10 or any other number of water service entities which are bound by law to implement any Te Mana o Wai statement issued by any local Maori group – and in fact, are required to fund the development of capacity in such groups to issue these statements. There are no limits on what these statements can say, which could be: stop operating.
    
    So how then would the loans be paid back?

Ha! Hipkins to announce changes to 3 waters.

A split of 4 proposed water entities into 10.

This is not going to be the end to their ambitions of dividing and ruling us on racial grounds.

Nothing I say, nothing, will convince me that this will be different from the original plans.

And don’t get me started on the “the co-governance element whereby the entities were responsible to boards with a 50/50 split of iwi and council representatives”.

That’ll never be changed or consigned to the dustbin. You won’t hear another word about it, until it is ensconced into law.

Government are yet to clearly explain why there is a need for such draconian reform, in terms that the average Joe Blo understands.

  The question is, are there now 10 iwi/tribal representative groups and if so who are they?
  
  It was reported previously that other iwi groups that were not represented by the 4 original and larger iwi groups (that Labour were dealing with) were not happy about either being excluded or subservient to these “mega” tribes.
  
  Surely getting an answer to a simple question like this to clarify the matter shouldn’t be secretive for Labour?

  Just to clarify, I have no problem with what people said at the time. Many were gaslit, conned and propagandised. I have a problem when they refuse to acknowledge their error and retract. No apology needed.
  You need to read this to understand Trotter’s position at the time.
  
  Is it still a tenable proposition to suggest that after so many weeks of unrelenting messaging, from a vast array of sources, delivered from, and to, every conceivable platform, there are still people out there who have not heard that the Pfizer vaccine is tested, efficacious, safe, and absolutely crucial to New Zealand re-emerging into something approximating normality?
  
  It beggars belief to argue that more than a tiny number of such individuals exist.
  
  But, if the message has been received and understood by the yet-to-be-vaccinated, then only one conclusion can reasonably be drawn. The so-called “vaccine hesitant” aren’t really hesitant at all. Though they may lack the courage to come right out and admit to being vaccine resisters, they have, nevertheless, made that choice.
  
  The Labour Government’s professional advisors seem reluctant to accept that this is, indeed, the case. It is possible that their reluctance stems from a deeply ingrained disinclination to hold the ill-treated and excluded members of our society accountable. The proposition that the experience of being ill-treated and excluded makes a human-being more – not less – likely to behave selfishly and, all-too-often, brutally towards others, is quite simply unacceptable. In the eyes of the relevant professionals, such people are victims of circumstances beyond their control. As such, they cannot be held morally accountable. As the French put it: Tout comprendre c’est tout pardoner. To understand all, is to forgive all.
  
  All very well for the sociologists and medical ethicists, but not at all helpful to a Government struggling with the problem of what to do with citizens who refuse to acknowledge either the validity of “The Science”, or their obligations to the collective welfare of the society in which they live.
  
  After all, the proudly vaccine resistant – the so-called “anti-vaxxers” – cannot even point to a brutalised upbringing in poverty as the explanation for their selfishness. In the avowed and proud anti-vaxxer, the state is confronted with the sort of reckless solipsism that it is actually dangerous to ignore. The sort of people who make fake bookings at a vaccination centre in a deliberate attempt to sabotage the system should not be forgiven – they should be punished.
  
  Mr Trotter goes on to actively promote the blatantly discriminatory, divisive policy of segregation by medical status.
  
  In resolving these dilemmas, the Vaccination Certificate emerges as the only viable vector for the virtues of both the Carrot and the Stick. Without it, the Government’s goal of getting 90 percent of the population double-jabbed simply will not be reached before the patience of the already vaccinated expires. If that is allowed to happen (and in Auckland it is not far away) then the authorities will find themselves confronted with even more pressing challenges to New Zealand’s well-being.
  
  Vaccination Certificates promise to be highly efficacious in hurrying along the huge number of young people who have yet to get around to getting themselves vaccinated. The idea of not being able to go to pubs and clubs without “the passport” should be a powerful incentive for this group. Youth is nothing if not highly social. It is also acutely fearful of missing out on the fun its friends are having. If all it takes is a couple of more-or-less painless shots in the arm to gain admission to the footy and the most fashionable music festivals, then WTFN?
  
  For older New Zealanders the looming possibility of “No Jab. No Job” should also hurry along the stragglers. Though pointedly left out of the Prime Minister’s Friday speech, “No Jab. No Job” is only a fast-tracked parliamentary bill away from further arming the authorities against the uncooperative minority.
  
  To those who object that the state is arming itself with a sledgehammer to crush a handful of nuts, the Prime Minister and her colleagues need only cite their duty, as the people’s representatives, to do the greatest good by the greatest number. They have a whole raft of concerns over and above the paranoid fantasies of anti-vaxxers to consider. There are people whose mental fragility is fast becoming critical. Small business owners, in particular, who cannot be expected to see their life’s work ruined because their government pays more heed to the relentless selfishness of a handful of solipsists and anomic lumpenproletarians than it does to those who have done everything the state has asked of them.
  
  Trotter was clearly advocating harsh treatment of the “unbelievers”. I have tried a couple of times to get an update from him re, in the light of the revelations of the last couple of years, has his position now regarding his comments then changed at all.
  So far nothing. This is the part that frustrates.
  
  No apology needed. Simply acknowledgment of the wrongs done and the resulting harm to ALL of us. Then an affirmation never to let this level of tyranny happen again.
  Then we can move on and start getting this country back on track again.

    I think Trotter is slowly, carefully backing into it. The other day I saw a comment from a woman claiming to be a nurse, where she very bitterly objected to having no choice about taking the vaccine, despite her own medical knowledge suggesting that she didn’t need to. That’s the first “anti-vax” comment I’ve seen him allow.
    
    Then today there’s Trotter over at The Daily Blog, Restoring The Narrative: The Political Logic Behind The Campaign Against Disinformation, especially this bit where he’s writing about the Twitter files:
    
    Controlling the narrative was obviously of enormous importance in the circumstances of a global pandemic. Alternative versions of the significance of Covid-19 raised the spectre of large chunks of the population becoming convinced that the demands of the state, especially the measures it mandated to keep the population safe and to protect the public health system from being overwhelmed, were, in light of their “research”, unreasonable, unwarranted and unwise. For the scientific community in particular, it was vital that this sort of misinformation and disinformation be countered with all the resources at the state’s disposal.
    
    Sure, he’s got that little “out” at the end but in the context of the rest of the State propaganda he’s concerned about it seems like a limited modified hangout.

  Love him or hate him, Musk is creating awareness of how mainstream media is failing all of us in a dangerous manner.
  
  Here’s a great post re his recent interview with a smarmy BBC tech reporter. Musk exposes him for the sycophantic fraud he is, as are apparently most of the mainstream media these days.
  
  Just a few days ago Musk adorned the @BBC twitter account with a “Government funded media” label. And, at yesterday’s lamb-to-the-slaughter Twitter-Space match, Musk supremely, and effortlessly, intellectually eviscerated James Clayton. Indeed I’d go as far as to say that it was the moment when the BBC’s brand was shredded with the same degree of hubristic-precision as when Bud Light decided to put Dylan Mulvaney’s visage on its beer cans. If James Clayton, and the entire BBC Board, aren’t asking what exactly they stand for after this car-crash, then we can expect more of the same: a humiliating descent into that place where ageing media elephants go to die.
  
  This is why our media in NZ shut down comments and have zero ability to discuss or debate any counter pov. All they have left is ad hominem and smear.

Asked why he no longer used the phrase “Three Waters” to describe the long-planned reforms, Hipkins said the term had become “somewhat confused”.
Hipkins has previously avoided using the phrase, notably during his statement to Parliament in February outlining his Government’s priorities.
“Because fundamentally, it’s about water infrastructure. And it’s about making sure that we’re dealing with the country’s water infrastructure deficit.

So Hipkins will now focus on ‘affordable water infrastructure’ – and call it that rather than “3 Waters” – dealing with the country’s water infrastructure deficit – indeed: “deceipt” – because the “co-governance” which was involved at the level of each of Four Regional Entities, may still need to be handled into Ten Entities, but in fact a form of “full governance” is already established in Te Puna, the Maori Advisory Council presiding over Taumata Arowai and their Board itself as well –

■ Taumata Arowai is the water services regulator for Aotearoa
We’re a Crown entity with a Ministerial-appointed board. Alongside the independent board is a Māori Advisory Group, Te Puna.

■ The establishment [November 15, 2021] of Taumata Arowai is one of three pou, pillars, of the Government’s Three Waters Reform programme (the other pou are regulatory and service delivery reform). A dedicated water services regulator will be essential to provide safe and reliable drinking water and improved delivery of waste and storm water.

    Narrowneck used to be ripe with pipis and cockles. Also other marine life like mussels and crabs. It has been harvested for good. I don’t think a cornered off bit will protect one shell. Was it one live pipi or one half of a shell?

  I think it has started, Simon. Everyone is rearming in response to China’s vastly increasing military capacity and Russia’s aggression. Poland the latest in a long list: Japan, Australia, and now NZ starting the process. It’s a great pity but the high cost now will be nothing compared to that when either our lights go out (as the sea lanes close because we have an inadequate navy) or we become a Chinese colony.

      The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo (You may want to watch the original Toy Story first to set the scene).

… the statements are very simple and powerful – there are no parameters in the Bill that apply to them. That is entirely intentional and was discussed in the June 2022 Cabinet Paper. Once issued by mana whenua (iwi or hapū), the relevant water service entity is under an obligation to give effect to those statements, including by their inclusion in strategy and planning documentation. There is some public consultation on those documents but not on the Te Mana o te Wai statements themselves.

        When I was in Hawaii Stella was brewed in Seattle. You may have been lucky to get Belgium brewed.
        I think there are many breweries around the World doing it, but it still has to be brewed to the Belgium standard.
        75o ml? Never seen that. Have seen it in 600ml cans in Auckland City.
        In Hawaii and Alaska it was always the small 335ml bottles. The Stella on tap was just a bit watery. You know what? It all tasted the same (except the tap beer)
        The brewery place is on the back of the bottle.

  Budd Light, soon to crash. Reminds me of one of the beer brands in South Africa that rebranded with a light blue and silver theme, hoping to appeal to a wider audience.     I wouldn’t get too excited about the price action with Anheuser-Busch, it has nowhere near hit the 3rd ¼ lows of 2022, with huge companies a drop of billions in market cap is barely meaningful.
    It has retraced some of the big upward move of late March 23, but it’s hardly on the ropes.
    Don’t get me wrong there’s a lot of multinational conglomerates I’d love to see fail and be displaced by local enterprise.

Michael Wood says Waka Kotahi has spent billions fixing potholes.

Well some on the State Highway here have been fixed recently and the results are worse than the potholes. Perhaps it’s an underhand method to keep the speed limit down but the newly filled potholes are uneven, overfull and locals are calling them speed bumps and asking for sick bags to be given out. Accidents just waiting to happen as you can’t keep straight on the road as you are going over them. I tried yesterday.

But as long as we’ve fixed them that’s all right then.

This Government have their priorities in the wrong places with people who have been given eight weeks to live and then advised it will take twelve weeks to get a appointment with a cancer specialist.
But while many people have been trying to get appointments to specialists we have the new Maori Health Authority spending New Zealand Taxpayers funds of over one million dollars a month on Consultants and Contractors.

I thought that Environment Report released yesterday was fairly positive for the cleanliness of New Zealand’s rivers with 55% swimmable.

Mind you never heard that in any reports as focus was on the other 45%.

      I wouldn’t be sure about that Steve. I spent a bit of time in the 1970s in and on the Waikato River, skiing,rafting, canoeing, and duck shooting. These days I just walk along the banks but I am fairly sure the quality has improved. Back then every factory , every town and every farm put the waste water straight into the river.

    Up until last year my 81 year-old swimming bud was swimming in the Waimata River, Gisborne.
    
    I couldn’t believe it and told her (ordered her) to come swimming with me at the Olympic Pool…
    After her car got stolen whilst she was swimming in the river, she relented.
    
    Whilst at the pool we met another mad woman river swimmer in her late 70s… She said she’d been swimming in the Waimata for over 50 years and only comes to the pool when the river is in flood or running thick brown in colour after heavy rain.

    I would think less drownings if people could actually swim.
    Say a boat overturns with an idiot skipper in a large wake. How many could actually swim? How many would fight the tide? Panic causes drownings.
    I am amazed that even just in Auckland people just can’t swim. We are surrounded by water!
    Easy to say when I have been boating, fishing, and swimming in this Hauraki Gulf for 50 years.

In my view what is not mentioned in the critical report on Wayne Brown and the council’s response to the bad weather event in late January is NIWA.

What accurate weather reports did they give to the council and the people of Auckland prior to the rain deluge?

I don’t recall any severe rain warnings coming from them.

Anyway they are going on about earthquakes and tornados., and how to protect yourself. Apparently some people can’t tell the difference between an earthquake and a tornado. Jesus! Both make the house shake, but if people would just look out the fucking window they would see that a tornado blows shit all over the place. Earthquakes don’t do that very often.
Have we really been dumbed down this much? Do we need a lecture from an ‘expert’ being interviewed to tell us to drop, cover and hold?
Why can’t we decide for ourselves? It is not that hard to understand.
Tornados blow, earthquakes don’t. Remember this for your next anxiety attack!

    I really do think Hersh has his head up his arse about his Nordstream theory (eg. that it takes specially trained US divers and only the USA could have pulled it off).
    
    This is ridiculous. 60 metres deep in the Baltic, a few km offshore. A couple of guys from an amateur dive club could have pulled it off. All the Baltic nations have highly trained naval divers (trained by British Navy divers) who could have easily done it too.
    
    But holes in his theory or not, USA and Poland probably have the most to gain out of this. Whether they did it themselves or paid some Estonians $10k to do it is pretty much irrelevant.

  I confidently predict the total cost of ownership of our water infrastructure will significantly increase even allowing for additional infrastructure works as a result of 3 Waters.
  
  And potential saving resulting from economies of scale will be destroyed by the cost of additional bureaucratic overhead and the cost of additional complexity and effort required to get works consented, stakeholder approval and resultant delay or denial of economic benefits.
  
  We think it’ll be a rapacious monster on Day 1? Just think what it will be 10, 20 years down the track as successive governments have enlarged its scope and reach – as they ALWAYS do…….

      We have two languages in NZ: one spoken by 99.5 per cent of the population, and the other spoken by less than 8 per cent.
      
      When writing or speaking in English, the logical practice is to use English names as nouns, and when writing or speaking in Maori to use Maori names.
      
      The current problem in NZ is that the Woke and the State-owned and State-subsidised news media, and the bureaucracy, are trying to force use of Maori names within English.
      
      The result is that the media and the bureaucracy are creating an NZ Pidgin as our main language.

For the record, the IRA were attacking Royal Irish Constabulary barracks and ambushing their patrols as early as 1919. The Black and Tans were recruited in the UK, mainly from unemployed ex service men to bolster the falling numbers of the RIC. The IRA had no compunction hiding behind civilians, so the RIC responded. Firstly by burning houses and businesses, then by killing civilians. Each attack by the Black and Tans was in response to IRA attacks. Were they brutal and did they kill civilians? Yes and yes. Should they have? in those days, that was probably their only option. Were their actions reprisals for terrorist attacks on them by IRA? You bet. If you don’t understand their reaction, you have rocks in your head.

The Black & Tans were mainly criminals, released from prison & given the black & tan uniform, and let loose on the Irish civilians with a promise of commuting of their conviction -A friend of mine narrated the story of how his grandparents were machined-gunned by them.
        My grandfather was a Cornishman who knew all about the Black & Tans – the biggest insult he could give someone was to call them a Black & Tan.

Get in first nats . The tax bracket lifting would be great but needs to spelt out in simple terms .
Labour hv been lifting minimum wage which could gain traction in that category . Vote for them , might get another pay rise mentality .

I still think it will be a landslide but national need to fight smart and take the oxygen out of them .

I guess for us down here to save this amount a year then the Timaru council is right that under 3 waters the cost will go up to over $5,000 a year for water, what a joke. Come on labour tell us how much water rates will increase for people to save this much….

You can bet there will be a huge ‘sigh of relief’ from Frontline-Cops at the end of the month, when that Judge Colin Doherty finally retires as Chair-of-the-IPCA.

Hopefully, his replacement will have some real understanding of what it’s like to be out there putting your life on the line every day, having to deal with the dregs of society. Doing their best with what little resources they have to keep us safe in our beds!

“Pōneke” was ‘snubbed’. Apparently that is the new name for Wellington. I had to google it to check.

  Simon Dallow on TV1 News (yes I know, SWMBO insists) usually refers to Wellington as “Te Whanganui-a-Tara”. I hadn’t heard “Poneke” before. And I gather “Te Upoko-o-te-Ika” is a regional name for the greater Wellington area.
  
  So I guess that means:
  
  – 0.0001% of the population will refer to “Te Whanganui-a-Tara”
  – 0.0001% of the population will refer to “Te Upoko-o-te-Ika”
  – 0.0001% of the population will refer to “Poneke”
  
  And will debate the correct name fiercely for years. Meanwhile:
  
  – 99.9997% of the population will continue to refer to “Wellington”

  Making a name “official” doesn’t change what the average man (or woman) in the street calls a place.
  
  How many people do you know who refer to “Te Ika-a-Māui” and “Te Waipounamu” in real life? (And no, news readers and weather presenters do NOT represent real life, no matter how much they might wish to). I have NEVER heard anybody outside of TV land refer to anything other than the North and South Islands.
  
  Just as I have NEVER heard colleagues at work, friends, or acquaintances talk about Tamaki Makaurau, Otautahi, or Otepoti. It simply doesn’t happen. Ever.
  
  And have you ever heard anybody talk about going to visit the Kirikiriroa Gardens, or taking a trip over to Aotea or Te Motu-arai-roa Island for the weekend? Of course you haven’t.
  
  It doesn’t matter how “official” a name is, or how often news readers try to persuade us otherwise, nobody in real life will EVER refer to Auckland as “Tamaki Makaurau”.

Government quietly withdraws $1.5b promised to councils in Three Waters reset

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins and Local Government Minister Kieran McAnulty announced changes to the Government’s long-planned reform of the country’s fresh, waste, and storm water systems on Thursday, saying a previously proposed four public water entities would instead be split into 10 regional entities.

But neither mentioned the withdrawal of $1.5b “better off” funding that was promised to councils, which are losing control of water assets in the reform. The $1.5b was part of a total $2b package of “better off” funding being offered to councils as part of the reforms.

A man charged after allegedly assaulting and dragging a woman out of a bottle store and putting her into an awaiting vehicle has been granted name suppression.

The 28-year-old man, from North Waikato, made a brief appearance in the Hamilton District Court today facing three charges; one of kidnapping and two of assault with intent to injure after an alleged incident outside the Bottle-O in Ngāruawāhia on Saturday night.

A self-described “nanny” from Cambridge took matters into her own hands on Easter Monday when she saw ram raiders smashed through the town’s Spark store.

The Cambridge grandmother told Cambridge News she was on her way to grab an early morning coffee when she saw a vehicle smashed through the front of the Spark Store on Victoria St.

The woman, who didn’t want to be identified, said her instincts took over and decided “it’s not happening”.

It’s reported the woman drove over the median strip and rammed an additional car that’s believed to be a getaway car which was waiting for the offenders inside.

“They all came out of Spark like bees from a hive, yelling. I tried to reverse but couldn’t, so I hit the car hard again,” she told Cambridge News.

She claims one of the offenders which she describes as “a little guy” slipped around in his jandals and fell on the pavement.

“Builder’s crack, it was hilarious.”
