  I would prefer the government focus on policies to improve the living standards of New Zealanders in New Zealand. Most New Zealanders in Australia do just fine. It is particularly startling how well Maori do in Australia. No welfare to fall back on. Can’t tell the Australians they are racist. Who would have thought? 😂

      I’ve been approached by a few Australian firms and agents in the last month or two. I’d considered Aussie before as there are good opportunities out there but as it is impossible to become a resident then citizen post-45, I’d not seriously considered it. Sure, the SCV gives kiwi’s the rights to live and work, but if I had moved, I’d have liked the opportunity to fully integrate and set down roots – the SCV does mean kiwi’s are effectively second class citizens and that didn’t really appeal to me.
      
      Now, it looks like it might seriously be an option so I’m certainly re-thinking Aussie as an option. I love NZ, particularly the skiing in winter time (the singular reason I live in the South Island!!) but the wages in my profession are considerably higher in Aussie than in NZ and with the NZ economy looking to hit the doldrums, I’m certainly considering a move now.
      
      I don’t think I’ll be the only one considering the changes and thinking about giving it a serious look.
      
      In a race for talent, this does look like an own goal by the NZ government. I suppose it does mean NZ could be a back door into Aussie again though, but as the Aussies are doing everything they can to attract talent, NZ risks being left behind and worse, losing talented kiwi’s as well.

    I think you might be right about this – certainly looks strong for the next elation.
    
    With the Liberals in a bit of disarray at the moment and looking profoundly ‘in the past’, reasonable moves like this make ‘Albo’ look like a sensible and fair leader and he’s also secured a solid voting block.
    
    The kiwi’s that benefit from this change might not back Labor forever, but they’ll certainly be appreciative for a while.

      Maybe the Aussies will be less inclined to vote Labor now as they are not keen on Kiwis coming over and taking resources.
      I agree it all sounds wonderful but having been there, done that, and returned to NZ it is not all moonlight and roses there either. Personally I’m glad to be Home, as this is where my heart is. Not saying it’s all that great heregreat here but if you go be realistic.

  Exactly. Co-governance as it is proposed does not allow for an amicable process, and is certainly not going to end up with all parties being “happy with the end result”. Far from being like a marriage, it is more like a caste system.

  The laws of Physics are stated facts which have been deduced and based on empirical observations over the last 5 centuries.
  
  Climate change is happening. However there is no law that guides is to what will happen. We just have models. There is certainly no law of climate change that points to optimum responses of EV subsidies or taxing cows.

      The water is inside the cells of all the new plants that are flourishing in this higher CO2 environment. The water is inside all of the livestock being supported by the new abundance in flora. The water is inside all of the human beings, whose population is exploding. The water is being locked up in irrigation ponds, public drinking water supplies and hydro electric dams. The water is being stored in plastic bottles in every store you visit. The water is being stored in private and public swimming pools. Etc etc.
      
      This is what frustrates me about the “climate change” debate. So many factors are excluded.

    Our understanding of electricity is actually rather flawed, same with light, radio waves and quantum mechanics etc. There is much conjecture. One example is CERN being built at a cost of $6,000,000,000 – so scientists can understand more of what they don’t know about quantum mechanics.
    And yet we use electricity, we can see, we communicate with radio waves and we use computers that rely on semiconductors which were designed on the back of our quantum mechanical theory which still has errors in it.
    
    We live in a world of which we have imperfect knowledge, but it doesn’t mean we have zero knowledge.

  Why have the public not caught on yet how damaging these separatist proposals are to the country’s future? We will turn into a Kūmara republic within a few years. I don’t fancy having the likes of Tuku Morgan wielding such power over major infrastructure, simply because he comes from the right Iwi. We don’t see a future here for our kids and have told them to move to Australia. One is already there and the other one will go soon. Two more professional young people lost to NZ. And they will be able to become citizens there soon with the new rules in Australia. Plenty of their friends are going too. Labour have ruined this country in five years.

  A decent blog from Graham Adam’s. However, he incorrectly says that 84% of the population won’t be allowed to make a Te Mana o te Wai Statement. In reality it will be closer to 99%. Only a few local tribes people (called mana whenua) that are seen as the local authorities on all things true on Māori-wonderfulness will be accredited to issue a Te Mana o te Wai Statement. These will be the same unelected control freaks that appoint themselves to the “Partnership Board”.
  
  So the MahutaCorp family and the Tuku Morgans etc will be in 100% control. And when there is a scrap between different tribes in the same area then they will use traditional Maori customs to work out their differences….. What could ever go wrong??

  And I think there is something wrong with many of the Judges in NZ. Their decisions often make me think that they , or their families, are being threatened by the gangs.

    Unless those nurse are cowards who can’t handle the thought of looking their former colleagues in the eye because they realise those colleagues had the moral fortitude and personal strength to just say no to a vicious attack on human rights.

Does National plan on rooting out racism and waste in all aspects of the government or will it just try to manage the status quo better than Labour? NZ needs a transformational change, not tinkering around the edges. Luxon needs to act as though he’s not a wuss. He doesn’t need to throw his weight around, just explain to the electorate why NZ does not need an HRC or Maori deputies any more than it needs a Chinese one or a department for Kiwis off Scots descent. There are more Europeans with health needs that there are Maoris; there are plenty of Maoris with no need for race-based care. Need not race!

  My view on this, and I’ve been reasonably consistent is that National knows they need to position themselves to win the floating centre voter. That’s the difference between the 10% mark that the real left and right party’s achieve – Greens and ACT. That is why National seem to be terrified of saying anything on race or social engineering issues that may cause offence.
  
  The thinking will be that they risk less in positioning themselves to the centre than they do to the right. From the centre, they may bleed some votes to ACT, but this doesn’t really matter as ACT will support them regardless – it’s not really a loss. If they were to drift right, their calculations will be that they are competing on the same turf as ACT and Labour then scoops up the floating voter.
  
  It may frustrate the heck out of those of us on the centre-right, but it’s a fairly good strategy to win an election. The flip side is that it results in a bland, somewhat tinkering approach rather than fundamental reform. If you’ve campaigned on a ‘steady as she goes’ manifesto then it’s unlikely your going to go full on reform and say to hell with our manifesto (unless you are Labour!!).
  
  My hope is that this election we see ACT scoop up the centre right block and other disaffected voters and become a strong spine at 15% to 20%. At this mark, I think you could expect to see some serious reform – it’s a sizeable block and can’t be ignored. The radical policy they propose (or in my view, realistic and sensible!) like cutting waste, educational reform, treaty referendum etc would have to form part of the government agenda at this 15% plus mark. Moreover, it’s a block that could see a change in hierarchy. A jump from 10% to ‘main party of the right’ is extremely unlikely, at least in the short term. A jump from say 20% to being the ‘main party of the right’ is very realistic and might force National to decide on whether they are a centrist party managing things, or a centre-right party committed to fundamental and radical reform.
  
  For what it’s worth, I tend to think the same scenario occurs on the labour-green side but the difference seems to be that the greens are quite happy to be taken for granted by Labour and actually achieve nothing whereas ACT would like to have increasing influence.

How does NZer’s no longer being treated as 2nd class citizens in Australia help NZ? It was a substantial disincentive for my family to staying in Oz. The floodgates will open is my prediction. Our best will head to Oz and stay permanently while they export the losers back to NZ. The only plausible benefit to the nz economy is that we are now a more efficient stepping stone to Oz for those who couldn’t get in directly.

Let’s be clear. The investments in new infrastructure will be paid for by ratepayers and consumers, no matter who builds them. You can pay through your rates, through your taxes or through water levies. But you will pay.

Joyce states the obvious, and it is so frustrating because the government will not answer the question as to who pays!

Government has been spinning the line that ratepayers will not have to pay for water infrastructure … this is cunning and devious … because, a ratepayer is also a taxpayer, and a ‘customer’.

Either the ratepayer, or the taxpayer, or the customer must pay.

  An outstanding piece from Joyce, and at the risk of upsetting the moderators, here’s a bit more of it:
  
  OPINION:
  
  We have seen again over the last week that this Government possesses an unshakeable belief in the power of its own rhetoric. On both Three Waters and the economy, ministers are clearly of the opinion that if they repeat anything often enough and with enough conviction, the voters will in turn believe it to be true.
  
  They are likely to be wrong.
  
  Whoever thought up the idea of re-labelling the unpalatable Three Waters reforms as “affordable water reform” should hang their heads in shame. And so should the ministers who had sufficient contempt for the public that they thought simply re-badging something this contentious would achieve a positive reappraisal of the reforms. To say nothing of the Prime Minister denying Three Waters even included co-governance “as it is traditionally understood” at the announcement of the grand relabelling.
  
  It had been assumed by many that the Government’s willingness to argue that black is white had been quietly shelved with the departure of former Prime Minister Ardern, but we have now been treated to a masterclass in sophistry courtesy of new Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.
  
  The proposed Three Waters changes are transparent window dressing. Sure, the number of entities going from four to 10 is a small step forward for local accountability, but still the people of Northland will be tagged on as an afterthought to the big dog that is Watercare in Auckland, the people of Invercargill will have their water services run from Dunedin, and those of Timaru, Oamaru and the Waitaki River basin will have their access to water controlled from Christchurch. Given the unhappy history of Environment Canterbury, the latter alone is a recipe for disappointment and frustration.
  
  The water assets will still be confiscated from local councils and placed in organisations over which they will have only a figleaf of influence. The water organisations will still be co-governed, with an unelected Mana Whenua Group given 50 per cent control, and veto power over the appointment of directors for each entity. Iwi and the Mana Whenua groups will still be able to issue guiding statements to the water companies which they “must respond to”, and the denuded councils will still not be able to do the same. Local government will be further weakened by the reforms, which continue an ongoing power grab by central government that stretches across health, the polytechs and local government.
  
  The much-heralded savings from the reforms are as unlikely as before, albeit apparently reduced as a result of the increased number of water organisations.
  
  His conclusion is pretty damning too:
  
  Of course, it’s not just the water reforms where the Government is continually trying to pull the wool over voters’ eyes. Ministers are fond of declaring all the inflation-fuelling expenditure they have overseen in the last six years is completely justified. They even defend the money spent on failed restructurings and, somewhat ironically, the explosion of government spin doctors.
  
  Chris Hipkins and Grant Robertson can’t see anything they would do differently with the economy despite food inflation running at 12 per cent, CPI inflation stubbornly staying up around 7 per cent, an eye-watering current account deficit and an emerging international consensus that New Zealand is becoming one of the worst economic performers in the OECD. Instead, they are rumoured to be planning to fire up a debate on tax in the Budget to distract everyone from their economic record.
  
  After what seemed to be a positive start to the new regime, it will now be dawning on the public that even with a tiggerish new Prime Minister, the overall Government policy direction and its attitude to voters remains unchanged. In that respect, the re-badging of the Government may turn out to be as unsuccessful as the re-branding of Three Waters.
  
  New Zealanders who want a genuinely new approach to the economy, inflation, Three Waters and race relations are starting to realise they will have to vote for it rather than relying on this lot changing their tune. The current lot are prepared to pretend to change, but then carry on regardless.

It’s an “interesting” argument, should people upset by National’s support for Covid mandates, zero carbon, trans over women’s rights vote Winston First then, to save the National government or should we expect National to be better?

  Although I don’t agree with her politics, up until recently, I though Kiri Allan was doing well. I think even Hoskin noted she presented well, was lucid and could hold a reasonable debate and seemed likeable. You could disagree with her but at least she was willing to debate and responded with more than the usual bland political statistics and the usual ‘let me be clear’ and then be anything but responses.
  
  Since then we’ve seen the RNZ farce and this Meng Foon political influence crap and she is obviously just like the rest of the Labour Party. They really do struggle for talent don’t they?

So, is Meng Foon, Race Relations Commissioner, acting impartially when he tries to explain Government policy, co-governance, or should he just be ensuring that when it is discussed, that is done in a polite and civil matter between the different ethnic or race groups – that he commissions good race relations, rather than take one side.

This Government already hires enough PR people

  Get rid of the Human Rights Commission. It’s clearly pointless and should be disbanded.
  
  For a new National / ACT government, this should be but one of many institutes disbanded moving useless leeches from the taxpayer teat.
  
  Won’t happen unless ACT are between 15% to 20% I fear as National could never do something so radical without being able to blame it on ACT.

    There is an interesting tension there.
    
    If ACT are been seen as being the tail that wags the (Nat) dog then there is a fear that centrist voters will shy away from National as they dont want to be part of an ACT lead government.
    
    Personally I (as an ACT voter) think ACT is best around 10% until it further develops its talent pool and electorate support.
    
    Assuming ACT do get 10-12% this time… it will be time for ACT to claim a couple of electorates and tell National to F off ….

      For what it’s worth, for the two main minor party’s ACT and the Greens, I think ACT actually have the harder road to gaining real influence.
      
      ACT really have no other option but to support National. They would never be able to support a Labour government without being severely punished at the next election whereby any floating voter that had lent their vote to them would switch back to National. I actually think their path to real power is actually quite difficult – a strong vote and winning an electorate or two could be the start of an interesting struggle on the right.
      
      The Greens are in a similar position on the left, but strangely, if they were to commit to a green agenda and dump the social engineering crap, they could be uniquely powerful in NZ. If they were to be purely green, both National and Labour would be options. Labour work for them on the social issues, but National have probably achieved more environmental gains in recent years than the Labour administration. That they refuse to ever consider the prospect of supporting National shows, for me at least, that their true agenda is social engineering rather than green policy.

On the covid “vaccine” and the sheep mentality.

At work yesterday afternoon, I was looking around for one of the team as there is a deadline approaching and with Anzac Day coming up, I just wanted a quick update to see if the team were on track – deadline is next week and most of the team are taking the Monday off as well.

Person I was looking for had to go home on sick leave after lunch. I asked why – he seemed fine this morning, wondered if he was ok or if it was serious. Nope. He’d had the covid jibbby jab that morning and had a bad reaction to it. Could be that he just felt like a really long weekend but he’s a decent sort and I think he was genuinely ill.

In the middle of fair few folks, I expressed my surprise – why would anyone take this thing when it clearly doesn’t work? Most nodded along, was even a few big smiles, but there were still a few loyal acolytes stating the the vaccine worked etc and spouting the lines from the pulpit.

Got me thinking that it will be interesting to see how we go this winter – there are still a sizeable group who are still scared by covid and will roll up their sleeves for something that it’s now becoming increasing clear just doesn’t do it’s job and, worse, is starting to look like it has some serious side effects. This view is no longer fringe conspiracy nuts but is becoming increasingly mainstream (and apologies to all those who were called conspiracy nutters – you are looking like you were right all along on this one!).

What made me really think though is that if the sheeple are still buying this covid jab crap, a good pre-election bribe might just be enough to swing the election.

October is shaping up as a seminal moment in NZ history I feel.

  PeeJay – it’s only anecdotal, but in the last year or so, and particularly the last 6 months, pretty much all of the people I know and associate with who are jabbed have come down with “flu”. Some of them at least twice.
  
  When they complain about feeling crap and I ask “covid”? They all deny it. I’m pretty sure none of them test any longer due to the requirements to isolate, that and I think there is a bit of embarrassment creeping in and a realisation that they were duped.
  
  Touch wood, during these numerous interactions, my wife, our daughter and I have managed to avoid being infected with whatever it is these friends are catching. Same with 2 close friends (who spent over a week with at the Wellington protest).
  
  None of us are jabbed and have been regularly taking Vitamin C, D and zinc supplements. We haven’t avoided close contact with others, we regularly socialise in public and my wife and I often have invited friends here for food and drinks.
  
  As I say, it’s anecdotal and “correlation is not causation” etc. But it’s been an interesting year or so.

    Burtland – yes, the Pfizer vaccine was also efficacious, not for the first two weeks after being jabbed, but for a couple of month afterwards. Then efficacy became negative, the more jabs you have, the more prone to catching covid. They’ve probably fixed it for this one thought.

    The absolute risk reduction for hospitalisations due to COVID-19 in bivalent mRNA booster recipients versus non-recipients was 0·089% (95% CI 0·075–0·101), and the number needed to vaccinate to prevent one hospitalisation due to COVID-19 was 1118 people (95% CI 993–1341).
    
    Those hospitalised within 7 days of vaccination were counted as unvaccinated, and there were large variations in health, age, sex and ethnicity between the control (unvaccinated) and those vaccinated.

        I’m surprised that so many people still believe in “safe and effective”, believe in all the measures enforced on us (those not in existing pandemic plans), still wear masks and deny the harm done by the mRNA injections. I’m also sure that if I injected any group with an immunoglobulin, just like they used to do to protect against hepatitis A, that I could show a limited efficacy such as this, compared to an unmatched control.

    Inthe09 – some are true believers, some just won’t admit they were duped. It’s sad, but it is a good indicator of people it’s probably best to avoid as much as possible.
    No harm to them, but if they haven’t seen through this by now, then I don’t really want them to be part of my life. Especially as it was this type who were more than happy to see me excluded and segregated from society and would have been happy for me to be shut out of the health system.

  Little trick with jeans I will share with you Ghost.
  When you wash them for the fist time (and after 10 wears isn’t silly tbh) keep them on, and hop into a warm bath for about 30 mins.

Maori names for all govt organisations and associated quangos. And yet….3 Waters, two words that almost all NZers understand in Maori, is given an english name.

They give institutes run by white academics Maori names to make it look more woke, and policies that would give Maori governance of the water a European name or now a deliberately misleading name “affordable water” so you don’t think about what the policy is actually about. Tino rangatiratanga

  Kiritapu Allan, the Minister of Justice, stood before the television cameras on Friday and in front of her leader, the Prime Minister, at whose pleasure she serves as a minister. She then told a bald-faced lie, which Benedict Collins immediately called her out on.
  
  According to Barry Soper, Allan only had six or seven donors to here 2020 campaign, so she can hardly excuse “forgetting” the Foon donation because of the volume of donors. That her first instinct was to lie really calls her fitness for the Justice portfolio into question.
  
  Kris Faafoi was promoted to Justice Minister after promising much in junior roles, but he failed to deliver anything meaningful. A few months ago Allan was being talked up as a future Labour leader, but her lightweight persona and her lack of judgment has been evident in the last few weeks. I strongly doubt she is in politics for the long haul, and like Faafoi, I believe she will move on, especially if Labour is defeated in October.
  
  Hipkins doesn’t escape either. He is now aware that Kiritapu Allan tells lies when she is confronted with an allegation about her. Can he afford to hold her close?

I know snail mail is so last century but now and then it is appropriate to post a card for a special occasion. What is wrong with NZ Post?? My card posted from one Waikato town to another Waikato town took NINE days to be delivered. Bit of an anticlimax so long after the Big Day.

  I’m sure it’s deliberate. They COULD deliver it sooner but they hold it as long as possible in an attempt to stop people posting letters. It is a very sad state of affairs. Much of historical research has been done through the reading of old letters. Deleted emails won’t be much use, will they?

We have often been chastised for comparing some of the policies to those of Nazi Germany. Those comparisons are totally valid.

Once Maori gain control of water they can control energy. 70% of electricity is hydro so this can be controlled and taxed through Te Mana O te Wai statements.
This is checkmate. Full control of water and energy handed to a 15% minority.
NZ voters need to wake up before it is too late.

Something completely different Housing. We all know we are not building enough although that might be solved with a brain drain to Australia. Just got around to reading the February edition of the BBC History mag which has an article about government housing. Some interesting stats. In the 30 years after WW2 four and half million homes were built thus an annual average of 150,000. Which on a much smaller scale was echoed in NZ. In 1980 the Brits built 100,000 houses its now 6,000 with a waiting list of over one million. Exactly the same situation in NZ on a smaller scale. What’s gone wrong ?

Court Filing Suggests Troubling CIA Links To Two 9/11 Hijackers

A newly-released court filing raises grave questions about the relationship between Alec Station, a CIA unit set up to track Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and his associates, and two 9/11 hijackers leading up to the attacks, which was subject to a coverup at the highest levels of the FBI.

Obtained by SpyTalk, the filing is a 21-page declaration by Don Canestraro, a lead investigator for the Office of Military Commissions, the legal body overseeing the cases of 9/11 defendants. It summarizes classified government discovery disclosures, and private interviews he conducted with anonymous high-ranking CIA and FBI officials. Many agents who spoke to Canestraro headed up Operation Encore, the Bureau’s aborted, long-running probe into Saudi government connections to the 9/11 attack.
