I’ve come to the conclusion that if all life on earth was extinguished by an asteroid strike there would be one exception: the little spider who lives in my driver-side wing mirror. I’ve had a Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote’esq battle with this little bastard for more than a year now, but to no avail. I suspect he is actually a deity in arachnid form. I’ve given up.

      Get some Kiwicare “No Spiders” from a hardware store. I hope advertising is ok. This stuff is brilliant, I spray it around the house, doesn’t stain. I go for ceiling corners where Dady Longlegs hang out. Not any more. Has residual properties, keeps them away for months. I spray it around sheds, along my gutters, vehicles, wherever they are. I buy concentrate, fill a knapsack sprayer up for the outside. Use their trigger bottle for the inside.

    Yeah there is a concern with EV fires. But it
    is nothing compared to the existing concern with petrol cars. The spider is about 8 times more likely to be burned in a petrol powered car than an EV.       I’ve come to the conclusion they’ve take the active ingredient out of fly spray, or watered it down so much that you have a better chance of drowning the mozzie or fly rather than killing it with the chemical.

  Get a plastic bag, fit it over the mirror, fill it with fly spray and tie it to seal. Leave it awhile before removing bag. You may have to repeat if there are eggs to hatch. Worked for me. However…they’ll eventually get you again.

  Cover the entire wing mirror in a plastic bag and spray the inside with fly spray till it’s completely full. Then seal up the bag at the narrowest point and wrap electrical tape around so the fly spray can’t escape.

Meanwhile the actual violence was committed against a small group of women just wanting to talk publicly about gender ideology. How could the academics behind the DP have such a stunning lack of self awareness – that they themselves are purveyors of far left propaganda.

    When I saw an ad on my Facebook feed around the anti-bullying campaign, and Shaneel Lal in there, along with a full drag-queen, I was stunned.
    He has cynically purged a great number of very abusive and foul Tweets in the wake of his NZ of the Year award. Luckily there are plenty of screen grabs online.
    And the literally violent actions of protesters he riled up, and then dismisses them as ‘consequences’ (i.e. She Was Asking For It) along with the poor manners, lack of intellect, that skreiking and shouting heckers display…..not an anti-bullying pin-up.

    Surely Knott – if you read the article thoroughly, at no point do the “Disinformation Project” actually give a clear example of whatever it is they deem is disinformation.
    
    This has been a feature from the beginning of this nightmare last 5 years or so, it is prevalent throughout the article. Many extremist accusations are made. Smears that are used regularly like “misogynist, far right, Nazi, genocidal” etc etc etc.
    At no point is any evidence produced of a single example of any of these. NEVER.
    
    It is pure, hysterical hyperbole.
    
    I am slightly bemused that an apparently intelligent journalist like Bryce Edwards didn’t jump on this. It was the absolutely glaring conclusion that I arrived at after reading the nonsensical claims of Hannah and Hattotuwa.
    
    We’ve been subjected to ludicrous claims such as these for 3 years. They are never substantiated.
    
    However, in the same period the government and media have been caught, provably. pushing actual lies and dis and misinformation onto the public. Actually dangerous lies and misinformation.
    A couple of examples.
    
    Michael Baker in 2o2o is on video record stating that masks don’t work, he states this numerous times. So does Jacinda Ardern, also on the record.
    
    Earlier this year Baker denies on live radio ever having said this. He is a liar. It isn’t disinformation. It is a lie – how is he permitted to get away with it? Why are no questions asked?
    
    As Thomas Cranmer revealed in a blog post, an OIA revealed that the government deliberately removed information showing that the vaccines were a risk to young males in particular. An astonishing revelation. Ardern was PM, Hipkins was Minister for Covid 19, Bloomfield was Director General of Health. Nobody in NZ, either in media or in political opposition has asked any of these people what their knowledge of this shocking action was and how it was allowed to happen.
    That is an indication of corruption and/or malfeasance at the highest levels.
    
    These are the first two examples that comes to mind, there are multiple others.
    
    The disinformation in this country only flows one way, from the top down via the bought and paid for media and permitted by an ineffectual opposition. No wonder the country is going down the toilet the whole establishment appears captured.

  Also they found an ‘extraordinary’ amount of abuse directed at Marama Davidson, after the Posie Parker visit.
  No mention this could have been instigated by her labelling Cis White Males as the instigators of all violence in the world. The biggest ‘disinformation’ statement this decade.

        Woke is just a logical development of the unconstrained, individualist nature of liberalism. Once you accept the principles of liberalism, it is only natural that it then develops into woke (a word I hate, btw). Liberalism doesn’t just mean “nice” or something (just as “illiberalism” doesn’t mean “nasty”); it is the denial of essences. As I’ve said previously, once people are free to agree to pretty much anything, then you soon get gender reassignment surgeries and other offences against nature, and as a liberal, you have no argument against it.

Right of way is Way of Right

Forget the sniff test, the mechanism by which Meka Whaitiri has somehow managed to evade triggering the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Act 2018 simply exceeds the bounds of reason.
The Act itself appears quite specific in the mechanism by which the Act is triggered, but the actions of Whaitiri, senior members of the Labour Party, and the Speaker of the House, have conspired to make the enforcement of the act completely impossible, and this has been compounded by the insistence of the Speaker that somehow the documentation that has given rise to this matter is now protected confidential correspondence, ignoring the serious implication this has for our constitution, and our democracy.
This is further muddied by media reports that state that the initial ‘official’ notice of resignation, sent by Whaitiri to the Speaker, may have been rescinded and resubmitted. This gives rise to valid concerns that this was done deliberately to ensure that that the Waka Jumping Legislation was not triggered. This is a concern that could again be easily alleviated by the release of this correspondence, which all parties involved are very reluctant to do.
The issues involved are serious, indeed they can be described as precedent setting. Remember that; this will be important later.
As a result of this, Meka Whaitiri now exists in a twilight zone where she is simultaneously a member of the Labour party, an Independent MP, and a Member of Te Pati Maori. She simply cannot be all three, and the reason for this is MMP and the 2020 election.
If Whaitiri is, as she has stated, now a member of Te Pati Maori, and will cast her vote in accordance with Te Pati Maori, this affects the proportionality of the House as set in the 2020 election. Therefore, Te Pati Maori effectively now have one MP more than they are entitled to under MMP. To maintain this proportionality, as decided by the ELECTORATE, (not the Speaker) Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, as a list MP, should be required to vacate the house. This has not happened.
If Whaitiri has resigned and is, as the Speaker has stated, an independent MP, again, proportionality has been affected. The Labour Party, entitled to hold 63 seats in the house, now effectively has only 62. Now, they still have a majority, but these actions have set a precedent, which future speakers will be obliged to follow.
To be absolutely clear, the Speaker has stated in the house, and reported in Hansard, that he has been advised that Whaitiri has resigned from the Labour Party and wishes to be sat with Te Pati Maori, and he has also been advised by the Labour Party that Whaitiri has resigned.
Now, what if the next Government this have only a single seat majority, and are required to deal with a resignation? In that situation, we will suddenly be confronted with a major constitutional crisis, engineered by the duplicitous nature in which this matter has been managed, and cunningly concealed behind the supposed unquestionable impartiality of the Speaker.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the way this resignation and party switch has been advised to the Speaker has been done so DELIBERATELY in a manner designed to not trigger the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Act. Furthermore, the Speaker, in attempting to resolve this mess, has decided that he has the authority to seat people wherever they wish to be seated in the House of Representatives. Sorry Mr Speaker, you are mistaken; people are seated in the house as determined by the votes of the electorate, the people that members in the house supposedly represent!
By these acts, the Labour Party have decided that they no longer represent the people that have elected them.
The first lines of the Electoral (Integrity) Act 2018 state:
The purpose of sections 55A to 55E is to—
(a) enhance public confidence in the integrity of the electoral system; and
(b) enhance the maintenance of the proportionality of political party representation in Parliament as determined by electors.
It speaks volumes that by all appearances, Meka Whaitiri, Grant Robertson, The Labour Party and the Speaker of the House have acted to subvert the process.
This does not just have the potential to be a constitutional crisis, it is, already, a constitutional crisis.

  If Meka Whatiri has joined the Maori Party as she says, then under the constirution of the Labour Party her membership of that Party terminates. So she cant be a member of both. I am not sure how this would affect her role as an electorate MP as the Labour Party constitution is rather opaque on this point. I would have thought she would have been forced to resign her seat but it is not clear.

Where does that go wrong?

    It is a basic principle of international law is that a new government assumes the obligations of the previous. In short, if New Zealand became a republic the new Head of State (a titular President) would assume the obligations of the previous Head of State (the Crown).
    Therefore the obligations and commitments of the Treaty of Waitangi remain in place. Which I am sure you already knew.

Just how many Maori appear to be in London and now wanting to get King Charles to agreee that the Maori were damaged in every way conceivable and they now want compensation along with an apology at his Coronation.
Dumm assertion anyway as in 1839 Maori asked for an agreement from Queen Victoria to stop effectively the tribes from killing etc each other.
There appear, we have been told, to have been under 30,000 still alive at the time, and left on their own would have gone out of business more quickly.
The new Maori Revolution is underway in New Zealand fanned by the wealthy elite formating social and political unrest.
Not going to have a good result for anybody.

Further to my cubital tunnel surgery yesterday, I was talking to the Doctor/Surgeon thanking him for this elective surgery when some are dying from Cancer.
He told me that cubiltal tunnel was not really elective, because my hand and arm will just get worse without it. I struggle with a cup now, so it needs fixing before I can’t pick up a cup. Did not know it was that serious.
So yes, Thankyou to North Shore Hospital, and the complete team. They are on the go all the time. Trainee Nurses and Doctors learning as well! Good job.

        My friends in the industry say much of it cannot cope if demand increases at the rate that Lab/Greens are pushing for! Without substantial investment – which consumers will end up paying via their power bills.

  This is not a crit at @Steve but it’s interesting that Northshore Hospital don’t think the surgery he had was elective because the condition will only get worse if not addressed. Think about all those in need of hip replacements who have to soldier on walking, riding buses working until they can no longer walk before they can even get on the waiting list for surgery. (and yes I know a hip replacement is more significant than cubital tunnel surgery but the state of the health service means that many people are suffering long term disability when their quality of life could be improved).

Relatives surgeon was constantly going to the ministry last year asking to be allowed to do it because he was technically below the points, they refused until he was in a wheel chair, collapsed hip, unbearable and uncontrollable pain. His surgeon and gp have said they’ve put the points up to where people will die unable to get treatment. Op took a longer than it should have because of the mess the hip was in from making him wait.

        Operated 8am Monday – brilliant in everyway at Tauranga Hospital. Out on Thursday.

        Yeah, they are amazing when they are allowed to be. Under national a lot of hip and knees were done in the private hospital to clear the public list down here. Last I heard which was late last year the public list for hip and knees in our area was over 1300 on the waiting list. Nurse that we know that works privately said that the surgeon was getting 50 referral letters a week, only public slots for a few a month so they are denied and the gp resends the letters.

Why is it important to have clarity over whether or not Meka Whaitiri actually advised the Speaker (in the first instance) that she had resigned from the Labour Party?

The reason is incumbency. As a sitting MP, Ms Whaitiri would have her salary paid right through to the election. She would have access to travel and accommodation, paid by the Parliamentary Service. Had she resigned (and I believe that a strong case could be made that she actually did resign, before withdrawing her resignation, she and Te Pati Māori would have to cover all those costs.

Adrian Rurawhe’s tenure as Speaker began well enough, but his lack of experience and intellectual heft has been ruthlessly exposed this week. That was evident yesterday when Grant Robertson and David Parker were giving him answers to points of order from National and Act. Now it’s not just an issue that brings Labour and Te Pati Māori into disrepute, but the Speaker has damaged the reputation of the entire Parliament.

Not sure about this but Labour are governing alone with supply from rotten Greens, but if Labour lose one more seat that puts then at 60 seats, that no longer gives them a majority which is 61, i think what is written in the swearing in of parliament is law, so it would be great to know the actual law around if they lose another seat

Visited a pharmacy yesterday. I had not less than three staff approach me and with pleading eyes and a proffered mask asked me to “please wear a mask”.

I declined their polite offers.

We have arrived at the endemic mental illness stage now, where no glaring lack of evidence of effectiveness, and no abundance of evidence of harm appears to break through.

There are glimmers of hope, though. I learned this week that Wakefield Hospital in Wellington is no longer insisting on masks for staff and patients.

  I don’t normally comment on KKs posts but this one grates. Some low wage shop assistants have been instructed to politely ask all customers entering the pharmacy to wear a mask. That KK thinks that rejecting the polite requests is an heroic act of rebellion is sad. The correct action would have been to leave the pharmacy in disgust and never darken their door again rather than humiliate humble low wage slaves.

    They can still politely ask customers, but customers can then politely refuse, and everyone can go about their day. I can’t imagine that the “humble low wage slaves” would care very much (particularly if they are masked, therefore protected from the unmasked, surely?).   kk – the “rules” around masking were almost impossible to interpret. You might find this interesting, I passed it to a friend who kept getting harassed by the zealots at the local medical centre.
  I had to get the clarification because my wife was refused treatment even though she was exempt. I wrote to the covid 19 response people and got a letter clarifying what the facts are.
  
  The (mask) mandate only applies to visitors of certain healthcare settings i.e. someone who is supporting a patient, or visiting a patient within those settings. The mandate does not apply to patients or clients of healthcare settings. As a patient or client who is receiving healthcare, you are not required to wear a mask by law.
  
  That sounds clear enough? But here comes the confusion.
  
  However, if you are a patient or client attending a healthcare facility and you do have symptoms of a respiratory virus, it is highly recommended that you do wear a mask if you can tolerate it. This is so you do not spread any respiratory infections on to others.

    Again, you shouldn’t have to apply for an exemption, that’s just playing along. I tend to think that the only exemption you need is the one that you personally hold.
    It’s like having to explain to a shop assistant why you don’t feel obliged to purchase the shirt you just tried on. Your reasons are rational, and don’t require someone else’s ‘approval’.

  The NZ Labour Party and the Maori Party has determined that it is not in their political interests to invoke the waka-jumping law, thereby triggering a by-election, so have conspired to avoid it.
  
  Successfully it appears.
  
  This means they avoid a potentially rancorous election campaign and many weeks of negative media headlines and distractions from their positive media lines.
  
  How they have achieved this, in spite of Whaitiri’s open and clear statements that she’s left Labour and taken up with the Maori Party, including fronting a press conference with the other Maori Party MPs and their President, leaves me dispirited, underwhelmed and greatly disappointed that we have a system whereby the participants can play so fast and loose with legislation they themselves made law.
  
  It is completely factual and obvious that she’s jumped waka, but no, according to our Speaker she hasn’t – like Sgt Shultz he sees nothing and knows nothing.
  
  This is a new low for Labour and the Māori Party.
  
  They are making us look like a joke on the international stage – as well as to ourselves.
  
  Integrity in this government has gone out the window. Now it’s just a mad, venal scramble for political advantage with the election looming. And how do I know? Just imagine if this was a Nat MP defecting to Maori or any other party – Labour would be up in arms, screaming, baying, for a by-election. We all know it.

      This is different. JLR did not trigger the provision by writing to the Speaker. He just resigned from the National Party. Only Simon Bridges could have pulled the trigger.
      
      In this case, reportedly, Meka Whaitiri wrote to the Speaker on Wednesday morning to notify of her resignation from Labour, and joining of Te Pāti Māori. That should mean she is excluded from Parliament.
      
      However the Speaker does not see it that way. As DPF has blogged, that seems very odd. The Speaker has refused to release the correspondence, which just muddies things further.

Instead of the endless polarised arguments about which side is/was right in regards to the general covid debate, should we be focusing on what they might mean for the future.
The first point is the polarisation and how quickly it allowed people to accept actions that would otherwise never have been proposed.
How quickly we separated into ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ camps.
Once you were in the ‘wrong’ camp anything you said or did was just automatically ‘wrong’, no further argument was necessary.
Government was given ‘carte blanche’ powers to take whatever action they liked to suggest, often based on the flimsiest jusitisfication.
The right to question these actions was suppressed and objections met with a hail of social media reaction.
Was any of it governmental, if so how much, or was it spontaneous?
How much were we influenced without our knowledge that it was sources working with the government.

  As for new medals, I think we gave up sending little trinkets to schoolkids for state occasions many years ago.
  There should be a Coronation Medal – I haven’t noticed any publicity about that – but it would be awarded to selected citizens, like previous coronation medals, the 1990 Commemorative Medal and the 1993 Suffrage Centennial Medal.

Has there been much commentary on the impact of Te Pati Maori’s recent activities on the Green Party of Aotearoa/New Zealand?

Surely the kaupapa of radical Maori in GPANZ sits more comfortably in TPM… Wouldn’t Marama feel more at home with Rawiri and Debbie than with James? (and Golriz/JAG/Ricardo/Chloe too for that matter).

Interesting to see the numbers of people who have taken up the new COVID vaccine booster.

Four weeks after the new booster was offered, 225,000 people aged over 50 have had a ‘third booster’. That is, they have received a total of five shots of the vaccine.

That is 13 percent of those eligible. That is actually more than I thought would have taken up the offer. The numbers are likely to reach about 400,000 by the end of winter, which means 20 percent of those eligible would have had five shots.

  AC, I used to take the flu vaccine annually but I heard Hosk run an ad for Chemist Warehouse imploring people to get flu jabbed. The last time I visited the doctor his nurse suggested getting the flu jab and ‘if I want get the covid booster as well’. Makes you wonder what concoction Pfizer have mixed in their vaccines.

So let me see if Ive got this right.

A woman comes to this country and wants to talk with women about women’s rights. Men, who think they are women don’t want these women to talk as men who think they are women are more important. The MSM tell us this woman who wants to talk with women is dangerous and is actually not a woman who wants to talk with women about women but is actually a woman who wants to talk to women about men who think they are women.

So my question is should these women who want to talk with women but are not allowed by men who think they are women be allowed any rights? Should we just take the vote off them as men who think they are women are now more important than women who want to talk to women?

And MSM – just why is it that shouty angry violent men who think they are women and throw paint on womenwho want to talk with women – are victims of the women who want to talk with women? Isnt that like a rapist being the victim of the person he raped?

And on a totally unrelated note is it acceptable for my young daughter (who is a young woman) to be too scared to shower at the pool as men who think they are women are in the shower with erections? And should she just give up her swim training anyway as men who think they are women are better women swimmers than women swimmers anyway?

On Don Lemon and the demise of the sneering media

It was a tale of two firings last week in the American media. Two famous anchors, with two very different profiles and styles, were unceremoniously ousted by their corporate overlords. Conservative bête noire Tucker Carlson and liberal malcontent Don Lemon were both dropped from their channels, on the very same day.

While I probably shouldn’t feel sorry for any television personality, I can’t help but have a little bit of pity for Mr Lemon. Even in his firing, his thunder was well and truly stolen by Mr Carlson, who was far more popular with his populist audience on Fox News than Mr Lemon was with his liberal audience on CNN. Shortly after Fox announced that Carlson would no longer be hosting the highly watched Tucker Carlson Tonight, he released a video that immediately racked up tens of millions of views. Meanwhile, poor Lemon’s red-carpet interview with the Associated Press, in which he said he had not been fired and insisted he was living his best life, garnered a paltry 12,000 views.

Perhaps there was never a huge market for Don’s style of journalism. Typically, he would sound off about how horribly racist and terrible Americans are. Tucker, in contrast, in his video message last week, remarked at ‘just how many genuinely nice people there are in this country, kind and decent people… who really care’. Although the liberal media tell us obsessively that Carlson is nothing more than a sinister ‘far-right extremist’, he often used his huge platform at Fox to shine a light on regular people who were being treated unfairly by distant elites. Ironically, by ousting Carlson, those corporate elites proved just how out-of-touch they are.

  Calling it Fair Pay is like calling Three Waters “Affordable Water Reform”.
  It is very clever and sly marketing when someone has to come out and oppose Fair Pay and Affordable Water as part of policy.
  The language needs to be careful, and the aims clear. I personally would talk about intentions and issues and never use the work Fair Pay if I was a National politician.
  Talk about it without naming it, because with our media and low information voters this is a trick of perception like “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?”.

Off to my son’s High school to meet his principal. As a year 10 he attends a public school that requires pupils to learn Te Reo, originally up to year 10. Since starting at the school, compulsion has been further extended to year 11, with rumours it will be extended further to year 13. No consultation or discussion with parents prior to current extension. We were not overly happy with compulsion to year 10, but accepted it. However, having it as a subject for year 11 limits his other subject options for NCEA1. Son doing very well at school (in top 5 of his year) and have no other issues with the school. However, can’t accept the compulsion extension as it wasn’t what we signed up for. Any constructive thoughts on what I could say?

  Perhaps you could ask the Principal why he/she is actively limiting subject choices for your son (and presumably other pupils) at Year 11.
  
  You could ask the Principal what is the educational philosophy behind the decision to make Te Reo compulsory at Year 11 (and beyond).
  
  You could check whether the Principal and key staff members are proficient in Te Reo. (If not, you could query them personally as to why they think all Year 11 Pupils need to be exposed to compulsory lessons in a subject they no longer wish to learn).
  
  ..You could ask the Principal if you Pupil could do correspondence lessons in his preferred subject whilst the others do Maori.
  
  Failing all of that, you will have to tell your son to suck it up…

  War crime is very subjective, when looking at what people did 150 or 200 years ago.
  Also- very selective outrage.
  The biggest killers, and some of the cruelest scenes of carnage or actual depopulation, were always Maori on Maori. Even during the NZ wars, the worse cold blooded atrocities were carried out by Maori both on the government and anti-government factions.
  So a bit rich calling anyone today a family of war criminals.
  The 1st Maori King, when he was known as Te Wherowhero, personally killed large numbers of prisoners in Taranaki.
  And if you wanted to look at condemning slave owners in modern times, and tearing down pictures or any memorials, then we could start at marae.
  But that would be silly – since we shouldn’t hold people to the same standards that we have today. Maori are not the same in what is considered acceptable or civilised {no more long pig/kaitangata in the hangi}, and nor is anyone responsible for or living to the standards of hundreds of years past (except for certain religious types).

    This has nothing to do with senior maintenance managers. Or their bosses.
    
    Flexible rubber joints are routinely inspected and, if in good condition, left in place, unless the PM system decrees otherwise, i.e. change is required at specified intervals. This is, or should be , Chief Engineer’s decision.
    What is far more concerning, is the fact that such a single point failure immobilised the whole vessel. Twin screw passenger vessel should have a full redundancy and a failure of such part should not result in a total loss of power. Again, the fault is with the ship’s crew for not identifying and fixing this problem.

  Reading the article, and he claims there is no evidence that women need to fear men using trans-identity to cause problems for them in toilets. Yet I am aware of cases overseas, a female-identifying student causing discomfort and even assualting real-females, and footage of a cross dresser filming in another country. And athletes or bathers don’t want them or their children seeing male genitals (like that ARE) in changing areas.
  
  I haven’t even gone looking for these very-real stories, so why can a senior writer for the Herald be ignorant (or be lying) that Adult Human Female concerns are genuine?

Thanks to a limp marshmallow judge, this serial assaulter of passersby and service staff will be back on NZ streets within a year.

The judiciary must either have Munchausen’s’-Alzheimers (apologies to genuine sufferers from this dreadful disease) or CSF full of spirochaetes, to keep turning these evildoers loose to injure and kill again.

“The identity of a young man jailed for planning terror attacks in Auckland when he was a teenager can never be published because it could make him a target for extremist groups.

“A High Court judge granted the 21-year-old permanent name suppression today, saying publication may lead to extremist groups reaching out to take advantage of the highly suggestible young man for “nefarious purposes”.

(His Google Cloud account included videos where the teen swore allegiance to the Islamic State and claimed “Jihad and retribution against the New Zealand Government and New Zealand Society and in general against the West”.

(A court summary said he was “ready for martyrdom and will commit a terror attack after he has done more research”.

(He also told the undercover officer he wanted to travel to Syria to support the Islamic State.

Thanks, Judge Rebecca Edwards. If you got this wrong, what will your accountability be?

  I’d agree with his identity remaining hidden. We don’t need to know who he is, he will live his life being constantly monitored now hopefully, but no need to push his name out there so other groups can get him to commit a terrorist act for them.

A small excerpt from a very good article.

Myers clearly regards Bridgen’s claim that the mRNA vaccines may be doing more harm than good to be nonsense, but in fact it is well-supported by evidence. For instance, British Medical Journal Editor Dr. Peter Doshi along with Dr. Joseph Fraiman and colleagues examined the data from the vaccine clinical trials and found that, compared to controls, the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were associated with an increased risk of serious adverse events of 10.1 events per 10,000 vaccinated for Pfizer and 15.1 events per 10,000 vaccinated for Moderna. When combined, the mRNA vaccines were associated with an increased risk of serious adverse events of 12.5 per 10,000 vaccinated, or 1 in 800. Note that the adverse events they looked at included those from COVID-19 itself, meaning the findings imply that among trial participants the vaccines were doing more harm than good.

Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘pedophile island’ has been snapped up for $60 million by a billionaire with plans to transform it into a luxury, five-star resort.

Stephen Deckoff, the entrepreneur and investor behind the project, will develop a 25-room retreat across the islands of Little St James and Great St James, in the US Virgin Islands, with the aim of a grand opening by 2025.

But Deckoff might find that constructing his ‘dream’ resort with such an ambitious timeline is the easy part. Much more difficult will be convincing wealthy tourists to spend their downtime on an island once used by Epstein to rape and abuse young women.

A Napier mother in jail for punching and hitting her daughter with a hammer, and then trying to hide the injuries under face paint on an Air New Zealand flight, has failed in a bid to have her sentence reduced.

The woman went to the Court of Appeal, trying to introduce new evidence about the impact that colonisation and intergenerational violence had on wāhine Māori and their ability to care for whānau.

She appealed against the length of her 38-month jail sentence, arguing that there was a “causal link” between her background in violent gang life and her use of violence in parenting.
