Just what does National think it’s doing?

Yesterday their transport spokesman came up with a completely sensible and rational view on the question of bilingual road signs – and it is a view that I think would resonate with most New Zealanders who are fed up with the efforts by many to try and force us to adopt Te Reo. But then the party goes and shoots itself in the foot.

Chris Bishop’s statement that “we support bilingual road signs in principle” is not only weasel words, it aids the impression of many commentators that National is just “flip flopping” on the issues of the day and that, moreover, nobody in the party seems to have a firm grip on the Party’s messaging and what National’s policy should be on the issues of the day.

Bishop’s words also suggest that National is still trying to please everyone. National needs to realise that people who support things like bilingual road signs are typically not supporters of National and they never will be. Just for once – I would love to see the party coming out with a clear, unequivocal position on a controversial issue.

If I may borrow one of Maggie Pie’s catchphrases … SHEESH!

    Krazy, isn’t it absolutely vital for a party seeking election to the halls of power to please as many voters as they can?
    
    I’m very positive about a Luxon lead National Act coalition.
    Luxon has:
    – developed a strategic plan for National’s electoral success.
    – got buy in from the National caucus.
    – ignored mud slinging from the despicable NZ media, Labour and (disappointingly) ACT sycophants.
    – developed a succint bullet list of National’s goals which he and his minister’s articulate at every opportunity,
    – published sensible National policy
    – told NZ he prefers the name NZ
    – circumvented the despicable NZ media by using local events and meetings to get himself in front of voters, most of whom like what they see.
    – taken National to the lead in the left leaning 1 news kantar poll – can’t wait to see the Roy Morgan.
    
    Meanwhile ACT leader David Seymour (who I previously had enormous respect for despite his almost non existent enduring policy achievements) tells us there are no excess deaths in NZ!

    It’s unfortunate that Seymour turned his back on those of us who chose not to get the Covid-19 vaccine. For this reason alone he’s lost my vote (I voted Act last election).
    
    That dead rat is just a bit too big for me to swallow after what I’ve had to put up with over the last couple of years.

  Jade, The object is for National and ACT to maximise their vote IN AGGREGATE. National needs to attract all the centre votes it can, so let it compete with Labour in the centre and leave ACT to take the votes on the right. There is no point National and ACT overlapping on the spectrum.

        Perhaps we should fully implement that strategy, that National sit firmly on the centre-left, and let ACT take everything else, which over time will reduce National to something about the size of what ACT is now, ACT being able to use National as a foil while it actually runs the country.

      Trump went further right than any candidate since probably Nixon – and he won, despite what the talking heads said (and hoped). There is this idea that people recoil at muscularly right wing platforms that eschew the liberal orthodoxy, when I think that a good portion of the electorate are hankering for a party with some balls.

      National would bring in 47 seats on those numbers. Add to that the 15 seats from Act and it makes 62 seats and enough to form a government.

  They would win a lot of votes if they said they would make English Government agency names the predominant names. Yes there would be cries of ‘racist’ but none of those folk will ever vote National.
  
  This is the list of Government departments. Take a look at it and spot the problem. You would think they would be in alphabetical order. But no they are in some random order. To find the one you are looking for, you need to tell your brain to discard the first phrases in Maori and look through the entire list looking for the one you want.

    I wonder what happened to commonsense? It’s really simple:
    
    For (Govt) entities representing “everyone” (all NZers i.e. Pakeha, Maori, Pasifika, Asian, Indian, Thai, Malay etc) the prominent name is in English! (Sure have a Maori translation if that’s important but under the English name and smaller font).
    
    For entities representing Maori interests (Whanau Ora, Te Wānanga etc) the prominent name is in Maori! (Sure have an English translation if that’s important but under the Maori name and smaller font).
    
    It’s not hard!!!
    
    But as someone here said yesterday, we now have the absurdity of the MSM referring to “Te Whatu Ora and the Maori Health Authority” in the same sentence. Madness!
    
    Just say “Heath NZ and Te Aka Whai Ora”, that way everyone knows which organisation represents them!
    
    (Or when being “PC” or educational just say “Health NZ/Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora/Māori Health Authority” so there is no-doubt)!
    
    Labour = Makes Things Worse … everytime!

    Because the goal is to get IN YOUR FACE, all the time and as loudly as possible. To offer you no respite from the constant barrage, and the reminder that they are in charge and there is nowhere to run.
    
    Disruption and conflict is the tactic, the goal being to make you withdraw and accept their dominance.
    
    It’s called the long march through the culture. They got your kids and your grandkids, and now they’re coming for you.
    
    On a more technical note, best practice in information technology when publishing is to allow the user to select the language of their choice and the page is displayed in that language and is remembered by the device which will display all subsequent requests in that language until the user changes their selection.
    
    But that wouldn’t serve their purpose which is not to impart information but to swing their fists right in front of your face.

    On which topic, note Corrections’ craven cave-in to a Tainui complaint about a call for Maori staff to help Waikato Whanau. Even though self-identified Maoris dominate the prison population.

  Easiest way to sort this mess is ask the anti colonialists to stop using the English alphabet in their Te Reo and the many competing tribes and IWI could never agree on creating their own letter symbols .
  Alternatively ask them for financial redress for using English letters. They are very quick to demand reparation for any use of their proprietary rights

    The thing we need to demand from these cossetted Socialists is service. I rang TNZ yesterday, got through the dead rat of the Maori language, to be told there was a 28 – 39 minute wait, and to use their internet site. I penned an email to them, and received a message that they would respond to my email within 15 working days. I wanted to report a scam email I had received ostensibly from them. In 1964 I had a temporary job in the Dep of Education. I had to provide a written reply letter to requests in 48 hours. Including typing time. And we talk service!!~

    You do realise that Maori is romanised, its not using the English alphabet and has its own alphabet – 10 consonants, and 5 vowels – of which there are a short and long version (could consider it 10 vowels).

  I have no problem with bilingual road signs. Or bilingual anything else. But there is a sensible way to do this, which I have seen done occasionally.
  
  On signs, it is to list languages in order of local use. So, on your marae, or iwi-owned farm, you might well put Maori first then English. But on the roads of New Zealand, you would put English first, then Maori. And you can still do that for places like Taupo which are spelt differently in the two languages.
  
  It would be a real test of why people want bilingual signs to suggest this. If they genuinely just want both languages to be there, my suggestion works. But if they really want pretend Maori superiority, they’ll be offended.

        OMG. You live in NZ and didn’t know that Maori doesn’t use “dots”/umlauts.
        
        I can only imagine how long you have kept your head in the sand and want to continue to do so.
        
        I am a middle aged immigrant, been in NZ for almost 27 years, and I can’t believe how closed off and uninquisitive people are.
        
        And Maori was not translated to English, it was romanised. Kai – is romanised, food – is the translation.

        Romanised means “conversion of text from a different writing system to the Roman (Latin) script.”
        
        Maori didn’t have a different writing system, so one was created first, by English missionaries, and then by Professor Samuel Lee, of Cambridge University, working with the chief Hongi Hika.

        Bullion, the Maori written language never had to be “Romanised”. It was created with Roman characters.
        
        Spoken Maori hasn’t been Romanised. Otherwise it might sound like Italian, Spanish, or Rumanian.

      A misconception here. It actually translates to “Dog Offal”, not doodoo. A few centuries back, a Chief ordered dozens of his prized dogs to be slaughtered and cooked on the banks of the river to feed a party of starving travellers. The entrails were thrown into it’s stream.

  Every time National does this kind of thing it only strengthens ACT’s position that they are there to keep National honest.
  
  Regards the signs themselves, here’s a sample:

  They are more confusing than an English-only sign. In the first instance they require more input to be processed when a driver is already engaged in an information-heavy task: driving safely.
  
  All of those examples have different meanings if you aren’t fluent in Maori, which only a tiny percentage of the population is. Is the sign saying Te Ara Puaki is the name of this expressway, or is it saying expressway in Maori and then in English. Rinse and repeat for the other signs.
  
  It really is virtue signalling on steroids. The purpose of a road sign is to communicate important information clearly and concisely. These signs do neither. In some regards they are actually a safety hazard.
  
  For those of a more philosophical bent, they also provide an example of the neo-Marxist drive to cause cognitive dissonance and frustration in the culture, ultimately to promote conflict, opponents neatly being labelled as racists.

    Drivers have to take their eyes of the road for longer to process the words to a point where they can separate the English, before then taking in the message.
    
    Hipkins loves to say “they do it in Ireland” but fails to mention that the Irish words are (usually)

      Not at all. I said the signs were presenting redundant information and in a manner that adds nothing and creates extra noise in an already noisy environment.
      
      What you appear to be saying is that in a country where 100% of literate people can read English it is necessary to pay lip service to, and therefore to patronise, a tiny percentage of the population who gain nothing by having signs in a language that only they can understand.
      
      It’s almost as nutty as having the signs also in braille, another official language of NZ.

  I think they still say the safety aspect is a worry, not so sure they have changed that, from what I read is the likes of place names on road signs was fine but not direct messaging, media have twisted this, when Brown came back he stated the safety aspect is still their worry

  To be fair Hosking was this morning and with some justification. Simeon Brown opposed roads in Maori. The next day National does a flip-flop on the issue. What changed some internal polling and focus groups?

      Two councils have become embroiled in rows over the Irish language — but they’re in the Republic, not Northern Ireland.
      One of the authorities has protested over the use of “confusing” exclusively Irish road signs while another has demanded the re-instatement of the English title of its leader.
      
      Councillors in Claregalway, 10 miles north of Galway city, have claimed that businesses in the area have been losing out on customers for several years because many potential visitors don’t understand Irish.
      
      And the politicians said that as a result, motorists don’t realise that the Baile Chlair signs on the Gort to Tuam motorway are actually Irish for Claregalway which is in a Gaeltacht area, an Irish-speaking community.

      Place names in dual language is one thing, with a nice design it can be actually appealing as a curiosity to visitors.
      But our other traffic signs are for information and safety. The messaging needs to be unambiguous, simple to understand, easily absorbed. Especially when driving at higher speeds.
      
      The proposed signs I’ve seen from NZTA are a horrendous mess, almost illegible, confusing and I believe dangerous. Apart from this, the whole forcing of it onto the public will have the opposite effect for many people.
      It is antagonistic and it is coercive. Most people don’t like being bullied like this.

        Less than 3% are conversational. (which actually doesnt mean able to read).
        
        I once (in the 90s) interviewed a young Lady for a government job which had a requirement to communicate in Maori.
        
        She insisted she was a fluent listener( couldn’t speak, read or write) due to hanging out with Aunties on the Marae.
        
        The only question that should be asked is. Will it enhance road safety!

The purpose of roadsigns is to inform, not to educate. So what is the reasoning behind this push.

It’s like instead of putting a sign saying speed limit is “100”, it would be replacing it with a sign that says Speed Limit is “10x(50/5)” in the hope that it will encourage people to learn basic maths skills.

So far they have been shocked that they sometimes get information which just isn’t true.

  You can’t correct ChatGPT, it’s essentially a one way street, you ask a question and it will search existing data sources for an answer. If the answer is wrong, there’s no way for you to push the correct information back down that channel.
  While it’s considered AI, it isn’t learning from new questions or responses, at best its being trained in the background, and mostly by those with a left leaning, climate extremism, anti everything bias.

  The Govt could save $millions (and shop keepers retain their businesses and sanity) if simply:
  
  *Shopkeepers/public allowed to defend themselves from crims with reasonable force.
  
  *Police allowed to apply force against crims.
  
  *Justice and Courts drop the alternative/radical/woke perspectives in which indigenous people are “victims” and need to be treated with wet bus tickets (or not at all).
  
  A true alternative/indigenous perspective would actually see harsher, more violent penalties imposed on crims for violating the society norms.
  
  Seeing we can’t return to pre-colonial justice (and eye for an eye etc), let’s compromise and go back to the justice system we used to have until recent times.

This is the absurdity that seemingly adult politicians and defenders of the environment who lack basic common sense run with. A new study in Australia shows solar panels never recover the amount of energy used in their manufacture.

The conclusion was…. “Reliance on solar combined with closing down coal & gas generation is definitely premature & will lead to power shortages, inflated energy costs, compromised national security & increased carbon dioxide emissions”.

    There are few things in life that would scare me more than trying to make a buck by investing hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars establishing milling operations in NZ, at a scale and level of efficiency which would enable being cost competitive with low-labour cost countries and which had lower environmental standards, with Labour and the Greens, the unions, the news media, the environmentalists, the local authorities and a large part of the population acting like you’re an enemy, throwing up all sorts of barriers to your progress while simultaneously doing everything they could to restrict your activities, rob your earnings and generally hamper your existence.

    Most of our processing capacity has been closed as the plants come due for equipment upgrades. Our cost of production is too high and volumes too low to justify the capex, compared to exporting to China where economies of scale and lower costs mean it can be freighted there, processed and returned.

      Economies of scale in international timber processing, net of shipping costs, is a factor, but also:
      
      1. China’s fixed currency backed by a giant economy, while NZ’s currency floats. Our currency is likely overvalued against the yuan. This complicates the real cost to Chinese manufacturers.
      
      2. China as a Communist state has a highly planned economy, and a characteristic has been is to build up and hold supplies of strategic materials such as wheat, even flour, and, presumably, timber.
      
      This allows it to manipulate pricing beyond normal balancing of supply and demand. China may have reasons we might regard as uneconomic in buying NZ logs. If China tries to invade Taiwan, we’ll find out more.

  The problem has already started in some parts of the world.
  
  Further to what is written here, there is also the problem of balancing supply and demand.
  
  Just as under generation leads to obvious problems, so does over-generation. Generation and load have to be balanced for a stable grid.
  
  Trying to force more power into the grid than there is load for results in grid instability. The only way to handle to handle this is to cut off suppliers.
  
  This is hugely problematic where people have bought solar panels with the grid-tied incentives to sell power back to the grid. What happens when the grid refuses to take it back? People will squeal and demand more subsidies etc.
  
  I suppose it could be possible to also add load and do something to absorb the electricity. In Australia, it could make sense to use this surplus power to desalinate water or such. But the plant would only run intermittently, thus it would waste capital.
  
  Most people are not building batteries because they expensive and are essentially using the grid as a substitute. They sell power back to the grid when the sun is shining, then buy back power (mainly made by coal and nuke) when the sun isn’t shining.
  
  This model works OK-ish when there is a small % of power coming from solar and when the major power usage is during the day.
  
  But it is a HUGE problem when a very large % (say 50% or more) comes from solar. In these cases there is a massive problem because it means the coal and nuke plants must be brought up to speed in the late afternoon/evening, then shut down again in the morning.
  
  This is a challenging balancing act. Large (and efficient) coal and nuke power stations are mainly designed to run constantly – or close to constantly. Turning them on and off is inefficient and also causes extra wear and tear.
  
  All these extra, and often hidden, costs should really be added to the solar side of the balance sheet.

    The current scramble towards renewables is driven by the limited existing back stops – once the existing backstop capacity gets used up, the taxpayer will have to front for more – think Onslow ($13B). The taxpayer also looks like fronting for increased grid transmission ($29B) and distribution ($70B) capacity required for the electrification.
    
    Because we already have power poverty, the taxpayer will have to wear it.
    
    From the recent BCG Report This will require unprecedented levels of investment but will lead to flat household electricity bills and declining household energy bills.

This has been again, a total and even more of a flop, which is why it has been delayed 2 more months.
Does this mean that in that time the Staistics Department can, along with Labour HQ, moderate !!! the results to show what they want principally for the number of Maori so that this can be used as a tool for Maori for more money.
How much of the above figures so far has been used as Koha with KFC and Rugby tickets – one Maori women on tele recently said that she had got 12 sets of Census papers and much Koha of course.

So we have new police chase laws. Labour and the police commissioner will be able to say, we have toughened up and while fleeing drivers is up 106%, that was under the old policy.

The problem is that the new policy seems to be the status quo, don’t chase. According to the police commissioner the police officer will make a judgement call on whether to chase. This will be based on the seriousness of the crime and most importantly, whether it might happen again.

I am sure that most cops would want to chase but if you are a cop and have to make the call, based on almost zero information, you would say no. If you did chase and someone was injured or killed there would be an investigation and your head would be on the block. You just wouldn’t risk it.

The Prime Minister thinks National could be trying to appeal to a “racist underbelly” as politicians continue trading barbs over whether te reo Māori should be added to traffic signs.

“There is a racist underbelly in some of the public dialogue around this and that does seem to be an audience the National Party are trying to appeal to,” Chris Hipkins told AM.

    Timaru used to be two adjacent towns, Rhodestown set up by the local Rhodes family & Government Town.
    North St ran between them and the cross street didn’t quite line up.
    In the mid 1800s the two towns amalgamated and became Timaru.

  What’s the merit?
  Any Maori who can read, can read English.
  Most Maori do not read Maori.
  Many NZers these days are foreign born, and English is an international language.
  Hindi or Chinese would actually benefit more % NZers than Maori text.
  If the aim is communication, rather than virtue signaling or manipulation of the public, then there is no need to double up on text.
  It also fits into a pattern of behaviour in the last several years around Maori insertions into many spheres, that I doubt you would have failed to notice.
  It has nothing to do with the Treaty, or pragmatism, and everything to do with a ‘state with a state’-partnership narrative (or myth, more correctly).

    Proponents also use a straw-man argument by comparing this move to bilingual signs in many other countries. In most of those cases bilingualism is an actual fact of those cultures. Eastern Canada is a good example where French is spoken by a significant part of the population and in some parts might be the dominant tongue.
    
    Likewise places like Switzerland which has four official languages, each language spoken natively by significant regional populations.
    
    That is not the case with Maori.

Max Key’s has a podcast on social media. He interviewed Harvey a media celeb. “During their discussion about mental health, Harvey spoke about a friend who’d committed suicide, including going into detail about how he did it.”

So it was Harvey who shared a personal story in a thoughtful context. But disclosed too much. Not exactly scandalous by Max. But maybe something he had to take down.

Aotearoa incrementalism – next phase.

I got an email newsletter today from an industry body, which introduced with “Aotearoa New Zealand blah blah blah” and then never mentioned NZ again.

The irony is of course that the body name includes NZ, their email has .co.nz, and some of the biggest members have NZ in their names.

I say this is the next phase, because “New Zealand” is effectively a footnote in the text, soon to be in brackets ( ) before disappearing entirely.

I am not against changing name through a formal process eg referendum, but the incremental chipping away by the woke is unstoppable. I assume there is continual indoctrination in school.

Has ACT or National stated policy around this?

Why is National so hamfisted with its messages? Surely it’s easy to say there’s no harm in bilingual signs but it’s probably best to stick to the most widely spoken and understood language for safety signs. No-one would have a problem with that.
And keep it mild and calm and low-key without making it a ridiculously inflated issue . Simeon Brown needs to be gagged.
Employ someone who knows how to package a response and do some training so they don’t keep feeding the media monster.

So what’s the point then? Making it voluntary is the quickest way to make any survey sketchy. It is called self selection bias. People who have cough, cough, “problems with their glands” or “cultural issues” won’t be stepping on the scales.

Surely the age of needing to weigh individual passengers is long gone. The aircraft are packed with all sorts of strain gauges and sensors that should be able to provide the information far more accurately.

Would te Reo Maori on road signs help normalise the language, or use a vocabulary as limited as that on 1-News television delivery?
Will te Reo Maori be revitalised by “language lessons” glimpsed at 80 kph or faster, when driver attentio should be undistracted by signage location, legibility, duplication, or visual clutter, or fpurposes other than assisting drivers?

With the soaring scandals in the lolly-scramble throwing out of taxpayer money by Labour is it time to review the role, duties, size, and power of the Auditor-General?

Beyond monitoring Government department spending, at its web site it reports:

“The Auditor-General’s report on progress by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) on implementing Operation Respect has found NZDF needs to act with urgency to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all its personnel.”

You’d have thought it would have been too busy for this, what with the torrent of State money being showered out Left, Left, and Left.

And does the Auditor-General cover the Reserve Bank? Lot of cash gone there on indigenous theatre and public relations. Is this legitimate spending by a State organisation?

There are scores of other State spenders, too. Like the Tertiary Education Commission, which funds outfits like Te Punaha Matatini, founded by Shaun Hendy, of Covid fame. This commission is paying Te Punaha Matatini, housed at Auckland University, $4 million a year until the end of 2028.

If the incoming government is to clear up the financial chaos, will it need to strengthen the Auditor-General department first?

  Clan – like you I am concerned that none of our political parties have supported the democratic values and rights and freedoms through the scamdemic. Particularly, providing no opposition to the rollout of mandates and voice for the diminished rights of those that would not, could not, did not carry vaccine passports.
  
  Essentially we live in a time where MMP sees the corporate strength of the party and the list MP usurp the representation of the individual electorate MP. Just look at the way that Luxon is subjugating any independent thought in National. One of the first examples of this was the way he dealt to Hipango for daring to visit an anti-mandates protest.
  
  Another issue is that our politicians are generally polls led not values led. So they are ultimately whipped into line by an activist media. Luxon is clearly struggling with this. What I can’t understand is why they don’t call the media out on their bias? Kiwis have an inate sense of fairness and many feel badly serviced by the media. But it appears there is a lack of courage to confront issues head-on.
  
  MMP is a failure. The exception to voting for one of the major parties is to vote for an independent or minor party. But they are traditionally vote wasters as they are unlikely to win an electorate seat nor are they likely to exceed the 4% threshold. So this election for me is very much a vote to stop the greatest evil from retaining power.
  
  I appreciate your diligent fight for justice around the wrongs that have been done in the name of Covid 19. Perhaps in the fullness of time and the objectivity that comes from the distance from events we may see some justice served. In the meantime, keep up the good fight!

I remember an old friend of mine being refused a job presenting on TVNZ back in the mid 90’s. Reason? She had a Lincolnshire accent that TVNZ thought would be unacceptable to viewers. There was a failed attempt in 2022 to replace the 1981 Constitution – 2/3’s of Chileans voted against the radical text. It would have granted nature constitutional rights. Articles of the daft would also have granted indigenous peoples co-governance over all matters affecting them (including natural resources) and granted them self-government (including a separate legal system) in their territories.

  Regardless of the US Politics stuff for which he is most well known, I find it great to think there is still some of his generation around.
  
  I made a point to speak to WW2 veterans I met as they were already dwindling over 20 years ago and realised the window was closing to overlap with them. Got a few good stories from them, not all of them nice.
  
  Here is a bit from Wiki on Kissinger:

This is where South Africa is now:

State structures are collapsing.

If you want basic services like policing, then you need to do it yourself.
“A South African Police spokesperson said two of the attackers were arrested after local farmers were alerted and blocked roads.”

The police are not functioning effectively any more. They could not cope without the assistance of the private security forces (which is 3x the size of the police force). Rewind that – even with the assistance they are not coping.

As a result, the crims have the upper hand and there are now around 75-80 murders a day – about 20x the rate in NZ.

Elsewhere in South Africa:
* Communities are building their own power stations – despite the law forbidding them from doing so.
* Community vigilante groups are defending power substations against cable theft.
* Over 50% of water processing plants are broken/not working properly. Currently there are known cholera cases in at least 4 provinces. Likely in more.

        I disagree, everyone should be treated with dignity and respect when dealing with health professionals. Some weren’t the past few years and that goes against how the health sector used to treat people. Those in government who caused that should be held accountable, but they never will be

      It’s almost like we should go back to respecting that everyone has the right to privacy with regards to their medical treatment and health. But that has been trodden all over and it is going to take a real effort to go back.
      
      Is it possible that a Christian, who believes in the eternal life giving aspect of Gods grace, see it as an act of kindness to share this gift with others? We don’t know the girls motives. Was she being judgemental or felt compelled to share her good news with Logan?
      
      Logan is like many of her community – firing the girl is not enough. We all have to get in line with her view of reality. Well I’m not interested in that, just like I won’t agree with an anorexic that they are fat!

So great we look after rugby players in New Zealand, and that the judge wished he could still play rugby……..

3 bloody months community detention.

Judge Jo Rielly said it was a shame Smith would not be able to play rugby while serving his sentence, but the interests of justice came first.

Pathetic comment from the judge.

Several men were suddenly verbally aggressive toward the victim, who was sitting on a nearby concrete seat, when Smith stepped forward and shoved him.

The victim knocked his head on the concrete seat as he fell over then slumped on the footpath, barely conscious.

The confrontation continued, involving more men at that point, which required security staff to intervene.

Smith then moved up behind the victim and punched him twice in the side of the head before dragging him onto the road by his collar, where he punched him again.

Several others joined in on the attack, as the man lay on the ground. He was left with a broken nose, two black eyes, bruises on his body, and a cut on the back of his head.

Labour MP Arena Williams claims she was never trying to suggest her father was forced to choose between heating and medicine with a tweet that’s caused a furore online and been fact-checked by Twitter.

National MP Judith Collins is labelling the tweet “very dishonest” and is “surprised” Williams hasn’t apologised and deleted it.
