Here are some excerpts from the article that I thought were significant. Some are comments by wife Amanda-

“Luxon devours biographies of world leaders, looking for insights on developing his leadership skills and personal productivity. He is an avid consumer of self-help books.”

“They have a genuine commitment to social justice, she (Amanda) says, that stems from a recognition they have been “really lucky in life” and should use their advantages to “improve the lives of other people with it”. ”

“Would he have worked for, say, a tobacco or mining company? A Wall Street bank? A private equity firm?

“No, no, no, I could never do that, no. I think businesses have a role to play in society to strengthen the society they’re part of. They can’t just be extractive and take from society. They have to be able to give something back.” ”

“By now, Luxon was nearly 40 and had been out of New Zealand for about 15 years. William and Olivia were approaching secondary school age. Luxon and Amanda wanted them to know what it was like to live Down Under. They were uneasy about sending them to high schools in New York.

“A lot of our values didn’t necessarily align with the American values,” Amanda says. “We wanted our children to be less self-centred, basically, than what the American culture produces. And we could see that secondary school was going to take them in a very different route than what we wanted them to go in.” ”

“She describes his thought process: “‘I’ve got this really unique set of skills and abilities which I’ve spent years developing and crafting. I understand the world. I understand problems. I’m really good at problem-solving, sorting things out. I’m really good at leadership. I’m really good at all of these things. So, the best thing for me to do with that is use them to help solve problems for other people.” “

  This gave me a chill as that’s what Judith said before she cratered on election day.
  Luxon’s main problem is that his good qualities might not resonate with voters especially given the leftist and MSM smear tactics on his wealth and religious views.

  Mining is exploiting society? Mining enables society to function at a high level instead of a stone age level. Assuming you are ok with mining rocks, if you’re not, you belong in a society that doesn’t use stones either. Modern virtue signalling is so stupid it defies belief.

      And includes mining for cobalt, lithium and all other rare earth mineral used in all aspects of “Green” energy – (which is a crock of shit BTW)
      Without steel how are we going to make electric cars & trucks? Without aluminium & titanium how are we going to make aircraft? Without oil, how can we make carbon fibre?
      All this nonsense is hugely exaggerated, and will plunge us back into the stone age.

    How the fuck can we on the right favour or even approve of someone whose biggest achievement – or at least one of them – was employing more gays at Air NZ? Don’t get me wrong – it doesn’t worry me in the least that some Air NZ cabin crew are camp as a row of tents…but why boast of employing more of them?

      I have no problem as regards him “employing them”…not that he would have, the H.R. Department would have done that.
      It’s the “boasting” which I find offensive and to me, it just shows how woke saturated he actually is. So, as we need less wokism , not more my decision not to have anything to do with him just becomes more entrenched.

    It shows an underlying absence of understanding civilisation’s progress.

  Sounds like it was actually an interview with Luxon’s wife, based on these excerpts. I’m interested to know about Luxon, not what his wife thinks of him.
  
  However, the quote below shows he doesn’t understand business at all, and will struggle to get votes from those swinging between National and ACT. I’ve voted ACT the last two elections and will do so again.
  
  When asked if he could ever work for big tobacco or a mining company, say, he said:
  
  “No, no, no, I could never do that, no. I think businesses have a role to play in society to strengthen the society they’re part of. They can’t just be extractive and take from society. They have to be able to give something back.” ”
  
  Big tobacco makes a product that is legal, and attracts massive revenue for the government through excise and duty, as well as GST. Big tobacco employs thousands of people, who earn wages and salaries to pay for things, and pay tax and ACC. How is that “extractive”?
  
  Similarly with mines, he’s basically saying he’d shut down what remains of our mining industry, and would no doubt continue to import thousands of tons of dirty Indonesian coal to keep the lights on. Anything dug up out of the ground is “extractive” but it doesn’t mean the business enterprise itself is extractive. Every business contributes to the economy, both on a macro and micro level.
  
  Luxon really is a useless corporate shill, desperate to be liked by everyone and with values and principles that change with the wind. Labour, but less incompetent. No thank you.

Which world leaders, I wonder? The likes of Obama, Teresa May and Trudeau, probably. On the level of a All Black’s biography in terms of valuable insight and philosophical illumination.

And why on earth is a supposed Christian an avid consumer of self-help books? Hasn’t he heard about the Bible? Self-help books are generally read by atheists and materialists who think that difficulties and personal struggles are a bug not a feature of the human condition.

  Dame Jacinda Ardern was perplexed, after quitting the Prime Minister’s job in January, when she was asked to write a book, which will probably be worth more to her than her five years as leader.…
  
  Someone suggested to her she should write it about leadership and she liked the idea and that’s what we’re going to get in the bookstores some time in the future.
  
  It should be compulsory reading for all aspiring MPs, essentially so they can avoid the sort of leadership she’ll be writing about. Her five years at the top were a disaster, showing how ill-equipped she was for the job.

      When Maureen Pugh went off the plantation and demanded James Shaw produce evidence to prove mankind was having a serious effect on the climate, Luxon recommended that “she do some reading”.
      
      On TV One’s Breakfast show he listed the authors of the books he had recommended she should read. Here is the list of those authors-
      
      Sir Robert Fenwick- started the Progressive Green Party, a splinter group of the NZ Green Party in 1996. In 1998, founded the BlueGreens, a green/left policy group within the National party.
      
      Sir Jonathon Porritt- is a British environmentalist and was chair of The UK Green Party from 1979 to 1980, and from 1982 to 1984.
      
      Simon Upton- Life long UN trougher & initiator of the Resource Management Act, a regulation that has caused untold damage to NZ’s economy and cost us billions in overseas investment
      
      He also suggested she read the IPPC report.

        Interesting selection. And when I say interesting, I mean not interesting at all.
        
        I had in mind titles like Julius Caesar as Artful Reporter: The War Commentaries as Political Instruments or Blood and Iron: The Origin of German Empire as Revealed by the Character of Its Founder, Bismarck and these sorts of titles.
        
        If you’re a politician, I would have thought you would want to find out as much as possible about what makes a great statesman a great statesman.

    As for Nat policy it ‘seems’ disappointing. But but, maybe they are trying not to scare the slightly lefty away, and they probably need those votes.
    I (and we?) would like them to be more hard line, but perhaps the softly approach is wiser with the voter realities.

      Veteran: Is that so? I count Roger among my friends…but sadly back in the day I often found myself questioning his political judgment – most notably his Macchiavelian scheme to replace Rodney Hide as leader, first with Heather Roy – who would have been a disaster – and then with Boscawen, who for quite different reasons would also have been a disaster.
      
      For myself, I don’t see ACT as being particularly “populist”…I know Roger always saw Seymour’s assisted dying law as nothing more than a gimmick…and I disagree with him on that; on the contrary I see it as one of Seymour’s best achievements.

Under communism, Chairman Mao or Joseph Stalin allocate resources. e.g. Great Leap Forward China. Mao sends one billion peasants to collectivised farms. 50 million die of starvation.

Under liberal democracy and capitalism, banks facilitate resource allocation. Amartya Sen won the Nobel Prize for Economics for his paper that proved – ”No famine has ever taken place in the history of the world in a functioning democracy.”

To describe banks as “extractive and take from society” is so stupid, it simply defies belief. The alternative to banks is totalitarian regimes allocating resources, which leads to mass death.

I think I have now lost all respect for Mr Luxon. He is obviously completely clueless about basic economics.

No no no. I’d never do that!! When Luxon was totally happy with supporting Ardern’s 2022 covid doctrine. Of state enforced dehumanisation, general segregation, and economic persecution. None of which belongs here in NZ.

Who did Mister Bishop work for at one time? Why that would be Big Tabacco!!! …… “he worked as a lobbyist for the tobacco company Philip Morris” as per Wikipedia work history…

Seriously. It was a setup question and Luxon walked right in and gave them the sound bite they wanted.

Labour and Greens supporters only prod at Bishop with this old job all.the.effing.time…..

Dear Chris Luxon. Think then speak. Recognise trap questions and dont provide fodder for an imploding enemy.
