        As I said if you know better than the police call 111 and give them your information that proves that the shooting was not an isolated incident, but I would think since they knew who did that shooting, they are more qualified than you in them calling it that.   It’s a long read and very interesting and thought provoking. I marvel at the hubris of mankind that believes that it is our actions that caused it and that we are powerful enough to fix it. Climate change, that is. Again, the hoi polloi are at the mercy of political narratives.

    My road to Damascus moment was when I read Bill Bryson’s The Short History of Nearly Everything and I realised just how insignificant and trivial we humans are.
    
    And how vain, and arrogant to believe we could affect something as incredibly complex and inter-related as the climate, subject as it is to so many overwhelming natural factors. Earthquakes, volcanoes, meteors and solar changes all have an impact on the climate far greater than anything man could ever do, as well as the earth’s natural rhythms of cooling and heating over millennia.

  I agree with most, but by no means all of the points made. I dispute this:
  
  “The real key questions are: how much AGW is happening? Is it trivial or is it dangerous?”
  
  Those are interesting questions, almost completely insoluble; which is to say we have no way of knowing how much AGW is happening (my hypothesis is an infinitesimally and statistically insignificant amount) and whether it’s trivial or dangerous.
  
  For me, the REAL key question is: what if anything is within the power of humankind to do anything about it? And again, my hypothesis is: practically nothing. The vanity and arrogance, let alone stupidity, of these communists who believe there’s a magical thermostat somewhere in the climate, and if we pay enough taxes, send civilisation back 300 years and cripple every economy except the ones who ignore this nonsense (such as China, Russia, India, Brazil and others), we’ll be able to dial the temperature back a bit, and all will be well. Laughable and tragic all at once.

  Correct Bollocks, the guy is a bad coach. The first half gave you an idea what his coaching is about. Another few things, McKenzie was ordinary in the Super final, and reprised that ordinariness in this test. The number of times you saw Whitelock gathering the forwards around and talking to them was interesting (or disturbing) given Cane is the captain and was still on the field. So, David Seymour is accused of Dog-whistling to anti co-governance supporters yet the government had no mandate to introduce their anti-democratic policy as they didn’t run on it at the last election, and its certainly wasn’t part of their election manifesto.

  Sorry? As a European, I can tell Sue Bradford for a fact that the very notion of co-governance is fundamentally grounded in “slamming into” Europeans and colonialism. The difference is that no “dog-whistling” is necessary when attacking Whites – it is seen as axiomatic and a moral imperative.
  
  My suggestion to Seymour and others would be to stop “dog-whistling” about Maori and start doing what is necessary, which is exposing that Maori have no clothes, as it were. Leave no doubt that the number 1 problem with Maori is themselves, not the so-called evils of colonialism.

    I disagree.
    There is nothing inherently ‘wrong’ with Maori.
    Most maori are just typical New Zealanders, working for their families.
    Unfortunately there are elements in our society, eg Gangs, who have no respect for others. It is true that (a minority of) maori are over-represented there. But that doesn’t meant there is an inherent problem with Maori as such.

  One can hardly accuse Seymour of ‘dog-whistling’ about co-governance – he has repeatedly and openly stated his opposition to race-based laws and co-governance, whereas ‘dog-whistles’ are ‘inaudible’ political appeals and statements. That’s why they’re called ‘dog-whistles’ FFS.
  
  The silly Bradford and Di Boni should look up the meaning of phrases before throwing them around.
  
  Worse though, is Bradford’s complete misrepresentation of Seymour’s policy intentions – that ‘he wants to slam low and no-income people and Maori’ or ‘that he wants to grow the wealth gap’.
  
  An utter lie from Bradford and typical from many lefty people these days. If you can’t beat your opponent’s arguments then just lie about them.
  
  It’s just like equating opposition to certain trans phenomenon to ‘wishing genocide on the trans community’.

        “Rolled into” means the same teams, units, funding and separation, just under a different name. It’s weak, snivelling, obfuscation.
        
        The correct approach is: disbanded, and the staff redeployed within the existing Health system. Not to say that units targeting health in poorly served areas should not exist, but I’ve not seen any of that delivered by MHA.

I’m hoping the more polls that come out the more the Government backbench goes into a tailspin – they won’t really want to go back to primary school teaching, trade union secretary and lower paid public service jobs without the expenses they can claim.

If “spending” actually means paying for the booklets and Julian Bachelor has done that already outside of three month period, is it illegal to actually distribute the booklets within the three month run up to the election?

What actual authority does the Disinformation Project have?
Should Sanjana Hattotuwa as the researcher not deal in facts rather than opinions.
And should his opinions in countering those of Julian Bachelor, have had the same official electoral reference as is being required of Julian Bachelor?

And as an aside, is Julian Bachelor just exercising free speech in endeavouring to correct what he seess Labour as doing, just as research Sanjana Hattotuwa appears to be using free speech and his rhetoric, like claiming Bachelor’s booklet “is colonialism’s long shadow”
Or can Julian Bachelor be seen as inciting particular action from a group of people – and Sanjana Hattotuwa as doing the same

  The pamphlets would have to be exhorting you to vote for, or not vote for a party.
  
  I haven’t read them, so I don’t know. If they are simply opposing a law, he should be fine. Opposing a political party, probably not.
  
  I suspect it’s largely an exercise in Labour attempting to envelop him in litigation.
  
  There’s a million ways to say any given thing, just avoid saying “vote for me”, or “don’t vote for them”

  Led by a woman called Kate Hannah who, on their website has this bio.
  
  Kate Hannah is a cultural historian of science and technology who works within and across cultural history, critical science and technology studies, and public understanding of science and technology. Hannah has extensive experience in research translation, strategic communications, policy development, and community engagement.
  
  Her research interests include gender, ‘race’, eugenics, colonization and white supremacism in historic and contemporary science and technology cultures and subcultures. Hannah is one of two New Zealand representatives on GPAI’s Responsible AI Working Group and is leading a research project developing principles for community consultation on classification and mitigation of online harm for GPAI. Hannah is the Director of The Disinformation Project, and was previously a Principal Investigator with Te Pūnaha Matatini. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Centre for Science and Society at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
  
  Hannah has led the Disinformation Project since its inception in early 2020. She provides rich and critical insight to the Disinformation Project, ensuring our work is reflective of the communities we serve. Hannah’s interrogation of information disorders embrace how Aotearoa New Zealand’s communities have differential experiences of past pandemics, different measures of health and wellbeing, and different experiences of state services and state intervention.
  
  She recognises that the pandemic and infodemic are also taking place within different nation-states, with different political systems, worldviews, and approaches to healthcare and the role of government. Inspiring the work at and creation of The Disinformation Project, she identified how COVID-19 disinformation is linked to online or physical harm, dissenting or fringe views related to a number of conspiratorial narratives, and hateful or violent expression.
  
  Guiding her work are questions around how disinformation narratives targeting and radicalising people in Aotearoa and internationally, how information disorders relate to narratives and tropes of white supremacy, racism, and extreme misogyny, the role of media, and the impact of the infodemic on social cohesion, tolerance and democracy.

  The point you are trying to make with this extract might come across more clearly if it were clear who is being quoted, and who is the “you” that is being referred to.
  
  Who asked the question, and to whom, “why does he need a private plane”?
  Whose comment is it that “that’s what winners get”? When somebody says “but you remain hollow”, is that Obama saying that he himself remains hollow, or is that something the interviewer is saying about/to Obama? Is the comment about the system Obama’s, or is it the interviewer, or somebody else, editorialising?

  Australia does not charge gst on primary produce. It’s a very simple thing to do and if you do find it overwhelming you can spend $100 on accounting software (quick books, zero etc) and it will work it out for you. I cannot understand the opposition to it here.

    Among the principles of tax are that they should be broad based, easy to account for and have few or no exemptions or carve outs.
    
    Another way of looking at it is that by removing GST on food, the Govt is either reducing the overall tax take or it will create a new tax to make up the shortfall.

    As but one example, the IMF says that it’s most likely that two thirds of the tax decrease will be retained by food retailers and only one third passed on to consumers in the form of lower food prices.
    
    Taking GST off food is just a great big wealth transfer to food retailers.
    
    There are many and better ways of helping out low income folk.

  I also saw that news item and found it distasteful. What was particularly frustrating is that at no point in that item did the journalists attempt to engage with the arguments Batchelor made in his pamphlet. The viewer was just invited to assume that co-governance is a great thing and that only alt-right extremists would think otherwise.
  
  Another dangerous aspect of the “disinformation project” is that it gives the left an easy way out. Instead of engaging with right leaning views and taking the time to explain why they are wrong, it’s much easier for them to simply slap the “disinformation” tag and then dismiss them.
  
  I think that news item will also backfire on the disinformation project. I didn’t even know Batchelor had released such a pamphlet until I saw it on the news last night. Now that I know about it, I would say there are a lot of people who are keen to read it. I will be keeping an eye on my mailbox.

    I would like to see the government publish a discussion document on the costs of the governments climate change policies. Simply starting with the 2030 commitments.
    
    A factual, well written document in English without all the woke language. Just the facts. The economic, private and fiscal costs.
    
    It would be an eye opener. There is currently little information. The Treasury did some limited analysis that showed the fiscal costs would exceed the education budget.
    
    Imagine a question today.

    I watched that video in its entirety. The Australian Phizer execs never answered the main question about whether they knew how the spike protein caused miacarditis. They were repeatedly asked the same question and repeatedly obfuscated. At one point they were asked to simply say yes or no ans still waffled on without answering the question,

Hubby arrived home last Sunday afternoon on Day 6 after a Triple by-pass operation at Waikato Hospital.

I’d been expecting to get back a very tired and frail man in constant need of pain relief and reassurance.

What I’ve got back is a skinny wee thing with a very healthy appetite and his usual fondness for late nights.

The daughters and I had to order him to bed at 11pm on his first night back home.

Since then, I’ve told him to get himself to bed as I’m whacked by about 9-10pm.

His only discomfort seems to be that he has to sleep on his back for the next few weeks until his sternum heals.

We had equipped the upstairs living room with some new tech stuff, to save him traipsing downstairs to his man cave… but that only lasted for a day or two, as he expressed his disdain for the crappy lap-top we’d bought him and the lousy programmes on the chrome-cast channels.

So he’s back down into subterranean territory and life is pretty much back to normal here.

I’m in awe at the skills and care he has received from the Staff at the cardiology unit, Waikato Hospital and from the nurses and Doctors here In Gisborne.

  Sternum is important. My Dad had two open heart surgeries at Waikato. Second one his sternum was wired up but it never joined. Plagued him until the day he died, some 20 years later. Your hubby needs to take the first 6 weeks very easy.

    Not true. My teeth were destroyed by the Dental Nurses of the 70s and 80s. “If you drill it wrong you just fill it up and try again”.
    
    As a result all my molars are cracking after biting on them over the subsequent 40 yrs. All of them need crowns at $1500 each. So far I’ve done 6. By the one I finish I will be starting to replace them. And yes, I brush and floss.
    
    Still don’t agree with free dental.

  Watched the entire video. The interviewer continuously interrupted David Seaymour but David did an incredible job of maintaining his cool. Especially liked the part where David said “if you would like me to say more than two sentences in a row “. That only stopped the A- hole a minute.

Thought I should listen to Suzy Ferguson’s RNZ podcast about dis/misinformation. So glad I did as I could easily have fallen into a rabbit hole of sourdough starters and kombucha scobies, not to mention feeling arrogant about growing my own tomatoes. And that terrible dark community that brought meals to help out the woman with sick kids. It’s a terrible world, the dark web. I shall have to be extra vigilant after the troubling stuff I learned.

  I recently read a discussion on the July 2023 marked spike in global temps (as measured by entire-globe-scanning UAH satellite). One interesting hypothesis was that it correlates with marked slump in atmospheric sulphur particulates over the same period (as shown by satellite measurements). It was hypothesised that this could have been due to the increased rain fallout caused by the Tonga Volcano big water vapour belch into the stratosphere. As in this alleged extra rainfall washed out a significant amount of sulphur particulates from the atmosphere in areas that spew lot of sulphur (East Europe and Asia). Sulphur particulates come from industry and *some* volcanic eruptions and generally have a cooling effect on global temps (EG as happened markedly after the Pinatubo and Krakatoa eruptions).
  
  May not pan out, but other explanations (IE from career Co2 alarmists) don’t add up.

    Somebody explained the recent spikes in sea/air temperature this way… because they’re so unusual it tends to indicate that they are not due to “Climate Change!”. This is because “Climate Change!” is a slow moving beast. The ‘climate’ changes slowly, so if we get some strange spike it means that some else is probably going on.
    Of course, it could be that we’ve (finally) reached one of the dreaded “Tipping Points!”, and we’re all going to have to move to higher ground.

THE IMPACT OF CO-GOVERNANCE ON THE NATION? A real sad wakeup call for all democratic Loving NZs.
Up until recently New Zealand has had one of the world’s oldest, most enduring and stable democracies – a democracy the envy of many peoples. However, democracy and political stability are seriously undermined by the growing prevalence of the co-governance model and other undemocratic arrangements, and exclusive racialised provisions in legislation and government policy. These changes are having a significant impact on our constitution – changes for which the peoples’ agreement has never been sought by the government.

Briefly, negative effects of the 50/50 co-governance model in the New Zealand context include:

the trashing of one of the world’s longest standing and most successful democracies.
The disproportionate amount of power placed in the hands of one sector of the community. This disregards the principle of equality of citizenship – one person, one vote, each of equal value.
Giving veto power to those unelected by and therefore unaccountable to the community, thereby undermining democratic accountability.
It is racially divisive, fostering a them and us mentality, which can easily morph into a ‘them versus us’ attitude.
The detrimental impact on social cohesion and race relations.
CO-GOVERNANCE NOT NECESSARILY THE END GOAL
Te Parti Māori, iwi leaders, and other individual Māori have indicated that co-governance is only a step on their journey to full authority and control. Such an intention is realised in the new Water Services Entities Act, which not only establishes 50/50 co-governance boards at the apex of the Entities, but also goes much further in a different type of constitutional arrangement from anything we have seen before. The Act gives local iwi and hapu extensive and exclusive rights which effectively amount to full authority over the management of water in each catchment area. It does so by allowing any number of iwi and hapu to provide Te Mana o Te Wai Statements, which the Water Services Entities must give effect to. There is no equivalent directive power provided for local government, nor the opportunity for other communities who have an interest in freshwater to have the same input.

WHAT THE FUTURE MIGHT HOLD FOR NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand is at a crossroads. Our choice for the future is either as a democratic state based on equal rights for all, or an ethno-nationalist state with separate, race-based governance.

The probable future if New Zealand continues down the current path will be an end of a united sovereignty, to be replaced by co-governance complete with two parliaments organised under two totally different systems and cultures – one democratic and the other based on tribal tikanga. We will become two peoples with vastly different rights.

The Labour Government is already considering such a future for New Zealand. In 2019 it commissioned a report to outline what it needed to do to realise its commitments to a United Nations Declaration on Indigenous Rights. Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson has labelled the resultant report – He Puapua – merely a discussion document and not government policy. However, the reality is that several of the proposals contained in the report have already been implemented, and others are progressively being imposed by the government.

A rift between the races in an ethno-nationalist state paints a very bleak future for New Zealand. Based on humanity’s historical experience and an understanding of what works, the only way to a harmonious future is to work together as a nation of equal citizens irrespective of ethnicity – equal before the law, with equal rights and duties, each with an equal vote in a democracy.

As Dr John Robinson, former university lecturer and research scientist writes of this in his latest book, Our Choice for the Future Equality or Tribal Rule

“New Zealand is in big trouble, a divided country. Many arguments have been put forward to divide us, based on documents from the past, with the meaning of each hotly debated.

We need not be directed by any of that. Rather we should be guided by basic principles that we can all agree on when we meet to debate our choice for our society, no longer held hostage to the shackles of the past. The question for today, as always, is what sort of society and what sort of country do we want? In answering that question, we must be free to think for ourselves, and consider what is best for us, now, in today’s world.

What guides us in a search for a decent and prosperous nation? This core principle is for equality. We must be one, with government by us all, working together as equal citizens – equal before the law, with equal rights, each with an equal vote in a true democracy. That basic condition is not met today. Co-governance, shared rule by two separate peoples, is only possible when we are divided into two race-based groups, Māori and the other, where one’s position in society is defined by ancestry, determined by accident of birth.

When the choice is for equality, co-governance and all the considerable apparatus of separation must be decisively rejected.”

But that is not all as elsewhere the Fat Controller is weaving his own word web ” Labour’s finance spokesperson (oohoo) Grant Robertson says “it’s not going to be possible to make big promises” this election and suggested the global economy is “starting to deteriorate further”.
