With a out of there depth and void of any ideas to help them win this 2023 General Election, who will put there hand up to Lead Labour until 2026 as I really can’t see Chris Hipkins has a future in Labour after the results come in October 14th.
Really it will be hard to find a suitable leader for this bunch of losers that could inspire there voters.
The word is Kerien McNulty but really a former bookie and current Labour Party bully, that would be like returning Andrew Little a total failure at every thing he has touched beginning with the Union Presidency to having a list place to be able to be a MP in Parliament.
David Parker is uninspiring and very much like Bill Rowling dull but more credibility than Parker will ever have.
I could go on but it would take all day to sort out the lies and deciet that most Labour MP’s have inherited from former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

      What do you mean by “socialism,” given that it is obviously such a worry of yours? Is it “socialist” to be receiving taxpayer-funded superannuation, as I believe you are? I’m not saying you don’t deserve it, but pretending that you are not benefitting from an obviously socialist policy, while railing about the dangers of socialism, is inconsistent to say the least.

        Plenty of people on here act as if all redistribution = socialism. In fact, they act as if the mere existence of a state is an intolerable incursion on their freedom.
        
        But I think you are incorrect: state pensions are paradigmatically a case of socialism with a small “s” rather than the Socialism that many, bewilderingly, seem to be afraid of. They are still living in the Cold War era. There’s a reluctance to admit that superannuation is a benefit, when that’s precisely what it is. It’s not the socialism that’s the problem, it’s the self-deception of the beneficiaries.
        
        Everyone’s seemingly a staunch individualist and a capitalist who denounces the state paying people benefits, right up until the point that they can receive a benefit from the state at the age of 65. There’s nothing wrong with the latter, so long as you’re not a hypocrite in terms of the former.

        I don’t see Superannuation as benefitting from socialist policy. The Pension is not a benefit.
        I go on about socialism because I have seen what it does to other Countries. Not firsthand of course. I don’t want the Country New Zealand that I was born in, go down the shitter like so many have. Zimbabwe, Venezuela etc. Look at the United States. At the moment the American dream is gone. I never thought NZ would get destroyed like this. As I have said elsewhere, Ardern started her evil planning after that 2009 speech in Hungry. Then like all Socialists/communists, when cornered she could not fight back, so she ran. Worst Labour Govt ever.

        Che Guava, that Superannuation or Pension used to be called Social Security.
        That does not mean it is socialism. It means you will have the Security in you elder years after 65. For the record I was still working until early this year at 71, and still paying Tax! The only reason I stopped work is the lease ran out, no renewal, no other factory available, so stopped manufacturing. I was doing 4 days a week but after 50 years at that same job I loved it!

        It’s a benefit paid by the state out of current tax revenue. No doubt you’ve paid tax all your life, but that’s already been spent. From now on, you’re living off the back of others. And that’s fine, but don’t pretend that it is anything other than this.
        
        As for “socialism” – we are ruled by capitalists, not socialists. Some of our politicians may affect a “socialist” stance, but we live in a capitalist society. I think the confusion arises out of a misconception of what capitalism is, combined with a similar misconception of what socialism is.
        
        The same people who ran the West during the Cold War also ran the Soviet Union, and that is the capitalist finance institutions. Really, the ideological basis is making as much money as possible, regardless of the label you give it.
        
        I have argued many times previously that the free market is not at all the same as capitalism, despite the common conflation of the two – free markets have existed for millennia, whereas capitalism is a very particular phenomenon that is really only about 500 years old. Capitalism is really the creation of debt, which is why debt has exploded since the advent of capitalism. It’s completely unsustainable, which is why they are pushing for a “reset.”
        
        Capitalism has such a grip that it’s very difficult to say that we have free markets – because capitalists run the world, they use the government to consolidate their positions. Capitalists love the state in this sense. Without a state apparatus with which to wield power, they’d have to exist in a free market, which to them is an intolerable prospect.

        There is a big hole in this kind of logic. I agree with you in your assessment of the situation, but I don’t think you can label it capitalism. If “capitalists” are using the government to consolidate their position and eliminate competition etc then by explicit definition they are not capitalists. They are socialists. It really is that simple. The truth is that “rich” people and corporations despise capitalism. They love the unfair advantage that government manipulation allows them. That is not free markets. That is not capitalism. It is explicitly socialism by any definition.

  If Hipkins can somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat and cobble together a coalition government he will earn his place in Labour history.
  
  At present though, all he seems to be pulling out of the hat are dead rats, which he and his caucus colleagues then have to swallow. I believe there’s all sorts of internal strife within Labour being stirred up by Parker and Robertson, with chirping from the sidelines from former MP Iain Lees-Galloway, who has delivered a few serves this week.

      I have no time for Winston Peters. But he was put in power because National voters put him there. Most of those voters won’t vote Winston again, after what he did, but now those same voters will not vote Labour and will be reluctant to vote Winston. So the more votes Winston gets will only come from Labour. Act and National stand to pick up the spoils

Chris Hipkins frequently has the look of a startled possum in the headlights. It just proves the point that we don’t know how they will perform.       Agree Maggy. Ardern only gave the illusion of being in control, as every public appearance and media question were strictly stage managed.
      
      Ardern was an expert in communicating performative empathy which effectively garnered widespread international applause, and always fulfilled the agenda of UN controllers.
      
      Meanwhile domestically her own caucus was busy deconstructing NZ (socially, culturally and economically) for their own selfish gratification.
      
      I certainly believe the “coalition of chaos” is Ardern’s real leadership legacy.

      her first day on the campaign trail after the Little ouster was a reserve bank interest rate meeting and she was asked about it and she didn’t even know it was on.
      
      The media poardy gave her a massive pass on that one.
      
      To me it was a clear indication she hadn’t a clue or even any notion of the big picture.
      
      I just don’t get where this myth around her has come from or how it is accepted by any thinking person.

        Small engineering workshop, 7 employees. Steel fabrication, welders, gas axes, saws.
        6 fire extinguishers that never get used. Solvent on a cleaning rag catches fire from a welder spark. Lay a small steel sheet or ply over it. Simple. You don’t want an idiot blasting a fire extinguisher at a burning rag all over the workshop and starting other fires. Remove the oxygen and the flame goes out.
        Anyway Health and Safety man says 6 extinguishers is not enough, I want 10. Moron.

  There is no strategic advantage in giving a low list position merely because the candidate is likely to win a seat. However it can be that a seat candidate is popular with the local party (who has most of the say) but no so popular with the leader or in the wider party particularly when stronger candidates have emerged. Such a candidate could well be placed low on the list.

  The incumbent National Party candidate here is way down on the list, but will be expected to win the seat.
  The Labour Party choice, who answered an advert in the paper to become their candidate, seems a pleasant, well meaning young woman albeit a Jacinda clone.
  The ACT candidate does not live in the electorate and as far as I know has not made an appearance here and is very difficult to contact – despite email to ACT party asking for his details. No reply.
  NZF has a very strong, popular repeat candidate – who was originally not selected for his party of choice. (I would be tempted to vote for him if he were not standing for Winston P).
  Green Party candidate – don’t know.
  By the way- is it usual practice for the Labour Party to advertise for candidates in the media? The way they boast about their support throughout NZ, I would have thought they would have members queuing up to get on their gravy train as a candidate.

    Why not just have competence? If that tends to mean much less diversity, then so be it. If “diverse” (i.e. not White men) people were so competent, there would be no need for “diversity” policies that would advance them artificially. The very existence of diversity policies demonstrates that they aren’t as competent in general.
    
    If people thought about this for 5 seconds, they’d see the obvious truth in it.

      Many people admire the Japanese society. So much of it works. The cleanliness, The safety (even late at night in big cities). The medical system. The technology. The courtesy. The transport system. Much of this is because they are all on the same page culture wise. Yes, they have their issues as well, but overall I can see how NOT having to grovel to the “diversity” religion has aided them greatly.

There’s a disturbing lack of concern from our politicians and media of the fate of those poor immigrants packed into a house in Auckland. Apart from basic humanity, why are people not up in arms about foreigners selling residency to other foreigners? Because this is Indian perpetrating a fraud on other Indians, make no mistake about it. How is it that our country’s good name is being dragged through the mud by grifters & there’s no real concern from anyone?

Yesterday, KBers were commenting on what were key election issues for them. For me, it’s about who will stop the rort of selling citizenship in return for non existent jobs and crappy education qualifications.

Hey I just want to give a shout out to Rush tv and their airing of the mini series Whale Wars. As much as I am opposed to whale hunting it was so great to finally see a documentary where they show both sides of the story evenly. I’ve seen plenty of documentaries on the anti whaling side but to see and learn why the people of the Faroe Islands do their hunts, how they feel about it, how they kill and consume the whales and its importance to them as well as to see the Sea Shepards side and why they do what they do was a great balancing of opinions that we very rarely see these days. Not only do they follow the Sea Shepard but they also go into the homes of locals who eat whale meat every day and get right into why both sides do what they do. Thank you also to Watson for helping produce a balanced documentary. Also if anyone from the media is reading this I suggest you watch it to and learn how a proper documentary is done. I’m still opposed to whaling but it was such a breath of fresh air to see a documentary where both sides of the story were told evenly, something I don’t see very often these days.

    Same goes for seals – of which there are many along the east coast here.
    But when a couple of trespassing drongos shot a very valuable bull (on private rural property) with a bow and arrows a few months ago – there were little or no consequences, even though the animal died in the end.
    Interfere with a seal resulting in injury or death and you could easily be facing jail time.

Sir Jonathan Van-Tam was, until 2022, the UK deputy chief medical officer. He was the ‘face of the pandemic’ on TV, appearing most days at press conferences along side Boris Johnson. Think the UK version of Ashley Bloomfield.

He supposedly resigned to return to academia. This was after Moderna secured a 10-year deal with the Government to exclusively produce mrna vaccines in the UK. Sir Jonathan was on the selection panel for this contract.

Anyway, Sir Jonathan has now emerged as a “global consultant” for Moderna. 😳 Salary not disclosed. I guess he got bored back in academia.

      People have very short memories of the gargantuan legal efforts to reveal the evidenced truth of significant public harms of big corporate interests. It’s a veeerrrry long list but includes:
      – Big tobacco ( self evident and now into nicotine vapes)
      – -chemical (Du Pont Teflon)
      – Big bankers (GFC)
      – Big pharmaceutical (it was only a small amount of asbestos in Baby powder).

  He’s also listed as a ‘celebrity speaker’ and I’m sure his fees are not too shabby.

  We no longer live in a Globalised World. Supply Chains that existed and worked well in a “Just in Time” supply chain NO longer exists.
  You can not forecast Inflation until you Understand this very fact.
  Interestingly, The ones who tried to “shore up” supply chains are the Chinese and Belt and Road initiative including Sealanes and Russians and Oil and Gas pipelines ( Think Europe).
  This was destroyed by the West and now suffer the consequences.
  On another note, The Reserve Bank just parroted what they where told, Transitionary inflation etc etc.
  The real Question is, How could they all get this so wrong when it was obvious to all ?

  Well he timed his jump from managing the Super Fund impeccably. The man is an imbecile. He was in charge of the fund during the biggest bull market in a generation. He could have thrown darts at a board to make decisions where to invest the money and looked good. Any of us could. Yet he was the highest paid civil servant in the country getting huge bonuses tied to the returns on the investments made.
  I have no problem people being rewarded for performance, but this was his job. As such, his salary was more than enough compensation.
  He’s now saying market ‘shocks’ were responsible for inflation being higher than forecast, yet when managing the Super Fund he was held up as some sort of messiah for investing ‘wisely’?!
  
  Can’t have it both ways.
  
  He clearly saw the writing on the wall, as many did and bailed out before the excrement hit the oscillation.
  He’s a charlatan. Astonishing how he got to the position he is in. Mind you, the same could be said for many people who are paid by taxpayers.

Tell that to the people who now drive transmission gully or from Christchurch to Rolleston on the new motorway. On a larger scale, in the 1970s, the Sydney to Melbourne highway was like New Zealand “highways”. Now you can drive congestion free on a safe motorway for 800 km without seeing a traffic light.

Why do these journalists take this person seriously? He is relying on the “induced demand” argument. If you build better roads people will switch from public transport and congest the better roads. That argument does not hold in New Zealand. Few people are using public transport and those who do are doing so because they are commuting to a city centre with expensive parking.

A couple of days ago Julie Ann Genter claimed that the only reason New Zealanders drove cars was because the public transport and cycleways that they REALLY want are inadequate. 😅

  mrspdm and I arrived home yesterday after a few days in Auckland.
  
  On Thursday (and off peak) we drove in daughters car from Papakura to Mt Roskill then on to Wairau Park area of the North Shore (through Waterview Tunnel a first for us) then back to Papakura.
  
  A bit slow from off the Bridge to about Ellerslie but in all the roads were a pleasure to drive on.
  
  A bloody sight better than those in Hawkes Bay, including the Hastings to Airport expressway.

  BY, and the weather is often challenging, let alone accomodating a complex multi stop family trip on the bus. Get real.
  I love the political and media cognitive dissonance observed when narratives are often seen lauding the virtues of public transport. Even on the London Underground, there are times at some stations, and certainly on some remote train lines, where that uneasy sixth sense chill runs down your back.
  
  Meanwhile in the (relative) media shadows the public transport (particularly in regards to buses) network truths grow, such as unreliability, inefficiency (of time accomodating complex family journeys), and of course the growing association with crime (the worrying need to put bus drivers in cages).
  
  Keep an eye out for ever more government disincentives to car ownership and use: examples include, high density planning with no parking provision, permanent urban speed reductions, low traffic schemes (LTN) etc

  You only have to drive on the new multi lane roads and experience the difference to know they reduce congestion. The key word is “experience”. Experience is quite different to reading someone’s opinion and then pontificating,
  
  Experience means driving on said roads, before and after the changes. Not once, not twice but many times as part of journeys for work, for holidays, and if nothing else for the sheer joy of driving.
  
  But to have those journey’s and fully appreciate the difference you have to be in the driver’s seat, and experience the better flowing traffic and lowered stress levels.
  
  Which means you have to have a Motor Vehicle License, which James Shaw does not.
  
  When I hear James Shaw espousing his expertise on motor cars, I am reminded of a clip out of an old movie, where mid 20’s male is claiming to be an expert on women, and on sex. But he is reminded by an elder that he knows nothing because he a is still a virgin, never had a date, and that his entire knowledge of women and sex is what he has derived from the pages of his mother’s lingerie catalogue, and liberal use of KY and Kleenex.

    You are several years out of date. He drives a government provided EV. However IIRC when interviewed a couple of years ago he said that he does not enjoy driving.
    
    Having said they your points are valid. He would not have a clue. The first time I drove Transmission Gully it was miraculous having driven the old route hundreds of times.

  The population of the urban town here is 28,500.
  The only public transport is a heavily subsidised bus ($2 per adult and $1 per child/student) which runs round on a set route stopping at suburbs, supermarkets, health centre, library etc.
  From time to time it comes under threat due to continuing under use and then the Council or some large company steps forward and “saves” it by way of sponsorship.
  Seems to be mostly used by elderly – even though they have to struggle off and on with their shopping bags.
  The Green Party has no knowledge or understanding of what works in small town and rural New Zealand- and could care even less.
  There will never be bulk, easily accessible, regular public transport in rural or small towns.
  We will have to pay a lot more for the petrol tax, of course – and the Greens will love that.Serves us right for not living in the middle of polluted cities, I guess.

TV3 led their 6.00 news last night with the “divisive”, their, words protest against Hipkins in Auckland. Without supporting the protest one way or the other, it might be helpful now if the media could release a list of what protests are acceptable or divisive to them. I could probably guess that divisive protests are those acceptable to the 75 % of the population who aren’t media. And then we have Isobel Ewing, the TV3 climate change promoter claiming neither National or Labour are doing enough in regards the climate. No reporting anymore, just activism. Please National, no more public money to these outfits. If they want to be activists, let the activists fund them.

National proposed the Puhoi to Warkworth motorway and the extension of same to Te Hana. Labour came in cancelled the Te Hana extension. Would have cancelled the Holiday Highway but had started. Shane Jones was happy when delays occurred on Puhoi motorway. Now what do we get Labour proposing building a Highway all the way to Whangarei and supported by all except the consistent nutty Greens. Public transport oh yes. Warkworth to Wellsford bus very few on it sometimes drivers sole person. What a waste of money. They are all f….liars and incompetent

  I’m not sure which part of the truth the down-voters have trouble with. The Nats are beholden to a corporate world that is now pretty damn woke. The problem goes much deeper than Luxon, as shown by the Young Nats’ push for a “more treaty-focused” party, and the Nats’ agreement with the current government’s plan to require large firms to report on their so-called gender pay gaps.
  
  Let’s not kid ourselves things would be much different if Willis or Stanford were at the helm. The Nats are a liberal party with a sprinkling of conservatives who have little influence on policy.

Roger Pielke has a substack post out giving all the info as to why it isn’t. He even lists all the reports detailing the previous storms, their size and effects. At least the Herald recognises there was a massive one there 84 years ago.

    There will be some small commuter planes in the next decade. For 20 people. 300 km range.
    
    Airbus and Boeing have order books for their current planes running to 7000 planes. They are not going to replace something like a 787 that flies 14,000 km with 280 people with something that runs on batteries.
    
    Air travel will double to 2040. 99 percent of that will be with planes powered by Jet A1.

      To be fair to them, they think they’ll be using ‘sustainable air fuel’, bit I have to wonder how horrendously expensive it will be.

I know someone who works in a senior position at DOC, a champion for everything green, just booked a flight for the entire family to holiday in Thailand later in the year. Yet they don’t exhibit a single shred of shame over this blatant hypocrisy. Even for those at the top of their “green” game think that saving the climate is “someone else’s job”. I am utterly convinced this “green” movement could not care less about the environment. It is simply another product to sell to the uneducated masses. It is an entirely new, propaganda-generated industry. Money makes the world go around and “green” stuff sure is raking in the money for a lot of individuals. Heck, the person I know at DOC earns $120k+ per year and god knows what they actually achieve for the environment. 9/10ths of F-all from my observations.

It seems to me that our political parties and even businesses are out to make our lives worse.
– They want to make it more difficult to travel around (think expensive fuel, expensive cars)
– They seem intent on making farming ever more difficult (just ask a farmer (quick, before he tops himself)).
– Some of them want to take our hard-earned wealth off us simply because we have some.
– Pretty much every bank seems to prioritise ESG over profits, making it more difficult to invest your hard-earned wealth (the little bit that’s left after the govt have finished raping you) in something that will make some money.
– our electricity grid is becoming ever more fragile and expensive, what with plans to inflict more and more wind turbines on us, and horrendously expensive pumped hydro (how many times to they need to be told the cost/benefit doesn’t stack up).
– Rates, sweet Jesus, rates. Will our council’s _please_ spent our rates money on doing their core business? Note to council’s, their core business is _not_ fighting climate change.
– Legacy media are in bed with them (literally getting funded by govt), and spend the vast majority of their time accusing others of what they’re guilty of themselves (I.e. dis/misinformation, and gaslighting).
– The cornerstone of freedom – freedom of speech – is literally being legislated against, with plans to make it illegal to say something that might offend somebody else. In the UK, some woman was arrested for _silently_ praying within spitting distance of an abortion clinic. WTF!?
– To top it off, they’re making it more difficult to vote them out. The plan to inflict co-governance on us means we won’t actually be able to vote some of them out, simply because their ancestors got here first.
These people are not our friends.

This is the main driver for them (make more money). It’s another way they differentiate and create a ‘premium offer’. Always follow the money.
  
  And of course, it’s all part of the wider climate scam.
  
  I can’t wait for all this to crash and burn, which it must at some stage. Just a question of when. Falsehoods can never survive long term. Truth ALWAYS prevails eventually. OLD VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE OLD STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.TV 1 & 3 News, Sky News, and Seven Sharp show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. The country is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Sue Bradford appears on Seven Sharp with the grasshopper and everybody cries. The Green Party stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, ‘We shall overcome’. Green Party Leader James Shaw condemns the ant and blames John Key, Rob Muldoon, Roger Douglas, Capitalism and Global warming for the grasshopper’s plight. John Minto exclaims in an interview with TV News that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Finally, to gain votes to win an election, the Government drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to consider how his hard work and preparation has affected the Grasshopper’s Mana and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated under the Government Land Repo Act and given to the grasshopper. The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government confiscated the house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant’s old house, which crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn’t maintain it. The ant has disappeared to Australia, never to be seen again.The grasshopper is found dead in a Drugs related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of Homeboy spiders who terrorise the once prosperous and peaceful neighborhood.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2023…..

Just watched a couple of Newshub video of protesters heckling the PM as he did a walkabout at Otara markets yesterday.

Had to laugh though – the Labour supporters’ chant to drown out the protesters is “Let’s go, Labour, let’s go”.

Yip, Labour, just go. Now. Don’t come back.

A giant retailer is changing store designs and getting staff new radios to tackle what it calls brazen and rampant crime.

And National’s law and order spokesman says boot camps for young offenders will offer more than might be imagined from the often derided military academy-style courses.

Countdown today told the Herald it had started enhancing security in multiple ways – and these measures would be ramped up in coming months.

These included specific team training for handling “aggressive, threatening, and brazen behaviour” and store design initiatives.

Is there even an election about to take place?
Many of the places that are usually festooned, often with competing parties, with signs are at present largely unimpeded.
Letter boxes are largely free of the burden of overflowing pamphlets advertising the skills of the scarcely known candidates.
So far, only one each from the Labour and National Party.
Am I in what is considered a safe seat ?

Hmmm, so who took it out of the school to start with. I remember being taught basics all through school. Primary school we had our school bank accounts. We were taught to save. Also would have pretend shops in the class teaching us the basics of budgeting. Intermediate we were taught the basics, cooking, sewing, and more financial skills. High school it ramped up with more.

Labour plans to make financial literacy compulsory in schools from 2025 to address low levels of money and budgeting skills among school leavers.

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, speaking as Labour leader, and Education Minister Jan Tinetti, in her capacity as party spokeswoman, announced the policy in Hamilton today.

“Young people will leave school knowing how to budget, open a bank account, manage bills and save and invest their money as part of a financial skills in schools programme,” Hipkins said.

  I call bullshit. If the kids are taught by Labor leaning Teachers, they won’t have a fucking clue! Face it, the current Labour Govt have no clue of numbers, and their roving decimal point.
  Back to banking. Primary school I was the banker. I had a key to those money boxes that looked like a book. I would open each one and count the money and the person’s name. At the time recording it, every Thursday. On Friday Mum would come to school and get the list and money and take it to the Post Office in Hamilton, with each person’s Post Office Bankbook. This was when I was 7 or 8.
  I also saved, I understood numbers. Should have gone into Accounting instead of steel manufacturing.

    I was thinking before why don’t we bring back the school bank accounts then I realised it would never work, there would be claims of white privilege, disadvantaged groups. Then the govt would have to step in and give money to some kids to make it fair

  I can already envision the Labour party’s economic curriculum:
  
  1st term spent teaching the evils of capitalism and how socialism is the answer
  
  2nd term spent teaching how inflation is not caused by government but is caused by “greed”
  
  3rd term spent teaching how Māori are economically disadvantaged because of “systemic racism”
  
  4th term can be spent discussing the benefits of Blackrock’s corporate investment in renewable energy.
  
  I mean, what’s not to like? Hahaha. As if the heavily unionised teachers would EVER teach economics honestly. That will never happen. They’d be teaching themselves out of a job.

The Green Party has waved bye bye Barbie, wiping political memes referencing the blockbuster movie from its social media pages to “protect Warner Bros’ intellectual property”.

Earlier this month, Clive Elliott KC, a past president of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (Ipsanz), told the Herald the party could face serious consequences over its use of Barbie movie memes on their social media pages.

Te Pāti Māori has announced its candidate list rankings for the October election, and based on current polling it may elect New Zealand’s youngest MP in 170 years.

Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, aged 20, is at number four on the list, just below sitting MPs Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, Rawiri Waititi, and Meka Whaitiri.

Maipi-Clarke – Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Porou, Te Atiawa and Ngāi Tahu – is a published author and expert in maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar.

She is also a descendent of Hana Te Hemara, who spearheaded the Māori language petition 50 years ago.
