The Redbaiter

I saw little in the comments section of Kiwiblog yesterday on the fact that after all Mr Luxon’s efforts to get Nzers to “know him”, he’s actually dropped National’s vote back to 30%.

So many people writing here and elsewhere about how he’s actually different in person to what the media portray him as. It doesn’t seem to be an accurate claim.

Leaving aside his unappealing personality, Mr Luxon’s OCD on Net Zero and his failure to take a clear stand on co-governance are probably at the root of his unpopularity. He could fix it, but he apparently doesn’t want to.

And its not just Mr Luxon who has an unappealing personality. Willis and Bishop are just as bad. They all come across as very ambitious without the talent to back it up.

No matter. As long as Labour is gone, and we have a center right govt of ACT and National it is some comfort. However with NZ First coming into the mix, who knows? Whatever, this uncertainty is all down to the Nats plan to suck up to the left rather than take a stand for the principles their party once stood for.

Poor campaign. Bishop should be sacked.

  Agree on Luxon. Spineless where it matters; was watching Goldsmith on The Working Group livestream last night and thought…what, exactly, does National stand for? Almost EXACTLY ‘Labour, but we’re better accountants’ was all that emerged. Seymour was by FAR the best of the master debaters, clear policy, clear aspiration, clear POINT OF DIFFERENCE. National is woke green teal whatever piss weak ‘we’ll do what the polls tell us’. Lame ASF.

        No-one is upset about different views but unwarranted and uninformed personal attacks (using multiple KB monikers) are boring and pointless.
        
        Christopher Luxon’s class is shining. He is assured in front of the despicable NZ media and, with the patience of a Saint, repeats the same answer 10 times as reporters with a much lower IQ than Luxon try unsuccessfully to outwit him.
        
        Luxon has built a formidable team which will get stronger with many new quality National candidates soon to enter parliament.
        
        Quite a contrast to Seymour who has some great policies (TOW REFERENDUM) but lacks the management experience, track record, and high quality team required to successfully implement long term change.
        
        A larger team is already challenging Seymour with ACT candidates getting caught out by the low iq despicable nz media.
        
        My pick is National will get high 40s as the National campaign builds to a crescendo for the election.
        
        ACT will bleed votes to national but will still have their strongest representation in parliament so well done to Seymour for that achievement.

  What I am surprised about is that the MSM attacked Goldsmith last election on their finances policy, and It didn’t prepare National for the same thing to happen again.

      Of course Christopher Luxon doesn’t drink. He says he does not and I believe him. However its not really this issue and in terms of this debate only a small concern.
      
      The real question is did Mr Luxon align himself with Trevor Mallard when Trevor was attacking the protesters so viciously and so callously. The answer is yes.
      
      Mr Luxon signed on to the statement issued by Mallard saying the protesters would not be accepted as legitimate. Along with David Seymour and the Maori Party.
      
      He also made numerous public statements expressing his wholehearted support for the Ardern/Mallard govt’s anti-protest actions.
      
      Mr Luxon was thanked in parliament by Mallard for making himself available for consultation and for his enthusiastic support. Mallard said there were daily phone calls between the two of them occurring until late at night and early in the morning.
      
      IMHO the protest was one of the greatest events in NZ history, and Mr Luxon and David Seymour badly misjudged things when they threw their hat in with the Ardern govt. It was in fact a great opportunity for them to make political capital and they misread it entirely.
      
      The protesters were decent people who had lost businesses, jobs, incomes, houses, had been unable to visit sick or dying relatives and they deserved some sympathy. There is no doubt they were legitimate. They deserved a hearing. What we know today proves it beyond question.
      
      So it doesn’t matter if the comment about Luxon having a whiskey is accurate. For one thing most know that if there was any whiskey available, Mr Mallard would have wanted to keep it all for himself. He wouldn’t have shared it. However the main point “Iamalways right” makes is valid enough. Luxon couldn’t have done more to support Mallard in his mistreatment of and contempt for those truly aggrieved New Zealanders on the lawns of parliament.

        The National Party leader is not ruling out extending the ‘no jab, no pay’ proposed policy on people receiving Working for Families payments.
        
        The newly selected National Party candidate for Botany, Christopher Luxon, told RNZ National’s Morning Report yesterday he supported the proposal floated in the party’s social services discussion document of cutting sole parent benefits if a child of theirs had not been vaccinated, and even extending it to people getting Working for Families.

        Of course Mallard needed to go out of his way to keep Luxon in his tent. The alternative was the Labour Govt might have collapsed, without the opposition’s craven submission. Mallard knew this, but Luxon didn’t. There was a possiblity of an earlier election being held, and the rights of all Kiwis being upheld. A great opportunity for National squandered. And here they are polling somewhat unsurprisingly at 31%

  Yeah yeah, the same as last time on the Morgan poll, but only to get three polls with Nats in high thirties, and not much talk from the usual suspects they were kind of silent or absent. What do you want? Act in the teens and Nats mid 30s, or Nats high 40s and ACT at a couple of #? You don’t get both, I would have thought an so called intelligent person could work that at, but never mind.

        I have said on here many times I am dumb when it comes to the English language and I do make mistakes but I have tried to improve what I write , but you have to admit if it was you on the end of spelling wrong words or what ever you would get pissed off with other trying to correct you .

    Quite honestly the fact that National is in the 30’s against the most unpopular and worst government ever makes a huge statement about National’s/Luxon’s popularity/policies. It is indefensible. You can bloviate as much as you like about low v high 30’s and which polls count, but they should be in the high 40’s in all polls at this stage. Seymour has his faults but at least he has some clearly enunciated policies and gives off an aura of competence. Hopefully he has a large say in the next government.

      Her female vote is still floating around trying to decide where to land.
      After this election, we should be able to move on to elections where covid and Jacinda don’t have to be addressed (even if they are presently addressed by not being mentioned)

        Surely the best way to do so is to show what a charlatan she is, how she lied about safety and efficacy, and offer help to those hurt or who lost family, jobs or houses.       Claiming National should be in the high 40s shows a lack of understanding of the political landscape and basic maths.
      
      Allocate on average ~4% to NZF & TPM each, and ~4% total to random other minor parties like TOP, etc. and you only have 88% of the vote to split across Lab, Nat, Act, Greens. Act & Greens take roughly 20% together typically leaving 68% to split between Liebour & National. In a balanced year they get about 34% – 35% each, which means in a poor year for either of them (2020 excepted) you’d see them poll in the low 40s and high 20s (43% and 27%) from the natural swing voters across all the parties. It’s very unlikely either of them will poll in the high 40s, with 2020 being an outlier because of Jacinda Mania, C-19 and “80,000 lives to be saved”.
      In the current political climate, with Act polling significantly higher than normal, and Liebour still being propped up by the MSM, it’s expected that National will struggle to get into the high 30s and definitely to get over that 40% barrier.
      I suspect as we get closer to the election we’re going to see a shift in votes from Liebour to Nat, and from National to ACT. The dark horse is NZF, but Winston’s not really releasing any policy which I think is going to be his downfall.
      It’s becoming more and more obvious that Liebour have failed as a government, and I think the impact of the press is waning as more and more people are hit with the reality of inflation, crime, failing education and healthcare. It’s getting harder for the press to maintain the charade.
      It’s 26 days until advanced voting starts, with the PREFU still to come, and a lot is going to change for the worse for Liebour during this period.

        In can do basic math and you can parse the votes they way you want but there are just so many disenchanted voters looking for a home. Luxon should be the one offering that but instead they are going to NZ1st and the other minors, many are sticking with Labour because they don’t see much difference between the two, and ACT has gained support, not because they are more right wing (which they aren’t) but because thinking voters like their policies. All fertile ground.

  National are very much a centrist party these days and have been for a number of years im really not sure why you are moaning about it. If you are wanting to vote further to the right you can vote for Act the bigger vote they have the more influence.
  Longer term it will be much easier to form a right leaning govt if Act can hold onto 15% and the Nats can poll 35 ish occupying the centre. As a stratergy it makes sense in an mmp enviroment.

    To you yes, but not the Actoids who would love to see Luxon give a speech along the lines of
    
    “Everything David Seymour says is the Gospel, and when in government we will be happy to implement it”.
    
    That is called philosophical political purity and would see Act and National sitting forever in opposition. But hey ho, Act & that party’s supporters seem to think they can run the country from the opposition.
    
    One further note, is why are many of the Act commentators above, are alll bent on making sh*t up about what National will or will not do, should they be in a position to form a government with Act? What the Act supporters reveal is they are more invested in interviewing their keyboards, rather than mixing it with those in Act and National who know what is going on in this campaign. In fact, many of them are more helpful to the other side than Hipkins, & the CTU, but they don’t stop themselves, take breath, and work that out before hitting “Post Comment”.

  National are more like a mug of warm milk rather than the shot of whiskey the country needs. Nothing about them gets the blood pumping and the enthusiasm levels up. They are just bland and uninspiring, both of which evidence a lack of vision and leadership and a “follow me!” vibe.

      That’s what parties do, at this point I’m happy for National to battle it out with Labour for the centre left as long as ACT get enough votes to counter balance any national socialist ideas.
      My ideal numbers would be ACT 20% plus, National high 30s, NZF nearly 10% and the neo Marxist comrades to share the rest.

  Nationals job is to win the election, which can only be done by focusing on converting labour voters to national. Pandering to locked-in voters of right is a guaranteed way to lose. Ergo their policies have to look ‘Labour lite’
  
  Everyone needs to recognize that NZ women have shifted perhaps permanently to extreme left. A third of women under 50 intend to vote for destructive insanity of Greens or Maori. Balancing that Act is now more than 40% of right leaning mens vote but sadly there are more women than men, and men will leave for Australia as things worsen.
  
  NZ politics is becoming perhaps terminally polarised. Unless women can be educated to care about govt competence, economic success of NZ and understand the destructive realities of socialism, race-based policies and welfarism we are going to slide into repressive socialism.
  
  To that end; halving civil service numbers, cleaning out Maori preferentialism in all it’s forms, introducing performance based pay, eviscerating public service unions, defunding university humanities depts and all lefite media, education programs for everyone in civil service along lines of what they did with various left wing indoctrination programs over last decade would be a good start.

At a day long conference in Wellington campaigning Polititains put on their most business friendly faces for a crowd of Private Sector Leaders.
Deloitte New Zealand Chief Executive Mike Horn also revealed the results of a Triennial Survey of Business New Leaders on the state of our Country.
Just 6% of 876 respondents said they felt the Government had a plan of action to raise New Zealand’s Economic Performance compared to 85% who said there was no plan.

There is a very good article in City Journal about “the Misogyny Myth” that deserves a lot more Western World readership than it will get. The author puts in many links to support the arguments he makes in the text. However, while it will get little positive feedback, there will be a lot of negative publicity attacking it by the gender studies types on purely emotional and emotive grounds. And emotions trump evidence and facts nowadays, don’t they?

  I think the problem is that many women can’t let it go. They can’t see that, yes, they have long ago won the fight for equality. In New Zealand, there are no rights enjoyed by men that are denied to women. Indeed, important indicators for boys and young men are terrifying, particularly educational achievement and mental health.
  
  Then there is the “gender pay gap”. This seems to be like the Loch Ness Monster. A demon to slay but hard to find.
  
  Women and men make very different decisions about work and family formation. Yes, Chief Executives of large companies are predominantly men. To achieve such a position requires a dedication to success, long hours, and, especially, a determination to beat rivals for the job. The willingness to engage in such behaviour seems to be more prevalent in men.
  
  At the other end of workforce, 99 percent of plumbers are men (OK I made up the number but it won’t be far off). Is that because there is a vicious cartel of male plumbers stopping women entering plumbing apprentices?
  
  90 percent of nurses in New Zealand are women. Do those women get paid less than the 10 percent of nurses who are men? Are they less likely to get promoted? Of course not.
  
  So good luck governments trying to “close the gender pay gap”.

    To do well in the Public Service it pays to be a at least at BA Graduate in Social Studies and it appears that many of the appointments that have been made are replacing men with such women.
    They then appoint several Deputies and that is where problems begin as the want top jobs in short time as they can do better, of course.
    In time it will cause a problem as there will not be enough top appointments left to fight over.

    I my own defence, I never frame discussion of transgender rights in terms of women’s rights. In fact, don’t believe that transgenders can even have any rights with respect to their transgenderism, because that would be to presuppose that it is even possible to be transgender, which it isn’t.

Will ACT be ready to take on several ministerial roles? Apart from Mr Seymour their current MPs have been learning on the job for the last 3 years. Is it enough to be running a Vote? Seems obvious the pathway of their MPs has been managed quite carefully – but holding actual power over critical national inputs and outcomes is a horse of a very different colour.

  Males need about an extra 500 calories a day. That’s approx 1 Macca a day, but let’s just make it $2 to be cheap. That’s $750 a year. Over an 80 year lifetime that’s $60000.
  
  Is the $20k number even real? Let’s assume menstruation lasts 50 years to make it easy (which is also probably rather generous). At one period every 28 days that’s 13 a year and 650 per lifetime.
  
  If you consume $10 of period products per period (having done quite a bit of shopping I doubt that’s very stingy), then we’re looking at about $6500 over a lifetime. Nowhere near the $20k.
  
  So being biologically male costs $6000 over a lifetime (just for extra calories) and we’re supposed to believe that a tenth of that is sexism?

But I note that there is never any talk of removing GST on meat, which in terms of ensuring adequate nutrition for growing young people would probably be more effective. The agenda has always been to force us all to stop eating meat and this reveals it.

Really interested by the latest Roy Morgan poll. National is down 2.5, Act is up 4 and Labour is down 2. So National is on 31,Labour on 24 and Act on 18.

Here is the thing. If Act gets another 3 and Labour loses another 3 then Act and Labour would be tied! Could Labour become the 3rd party in Parliament, instead of always being number 1 or number 2?

Everyone on kiwiblog I think we can agree, would join me in wishing Labour electoral oblivion for decades to come. The worst, most incompetent, most radical and most controlling government we have ever had deserves electoral oblivion.

And Act is tapping into something. They are campaigning at their public meetings, one of which I attended recently in Martinborough, on crime, cost of living and cogovernance. People are frustrated and want competent economic management, tough on crime and the end of different rights based on race. They want root and branch reform, not tinkering around the edges.

I think Act is looking good for the election. I hope they are getting prepared to govern and make real reforms. That’s what the country needs and wants.

This is a must read. The implications of what happened (and are still happening in ‘get boosted!’ NZ) during the last 3 years are immense. Pretending it didn’t happen is an impossibility.

The major German political parties will never investigate the pandemic response, because they are all complicit in it.

It appears that Wellington has collectively decided to adopt the same tactics.

On Friday, 1 September, the AfD-convened Brandenburg Corona Committee summoned Robert Koch-Institut Chief Lothar Wieler (the German counterpart to Anthony Fauci) and Brigitte Keller-Stanislawski, head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Safety and Diagnostics at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut. They were questioned for six hours on the Covid vaccines.

At least they got to ask questions. This is an incredible post which describes failure at an astonishing level.

didn’t start evaluating adverse vaccination events yesterday. They’ve been doing this for many years, and yet somehow the world’s most safe and effective vaccine yielded so many adverse event reports that they literally broke their computers and made their routine safety evaluations impossible.

The amount of harm done is bewildering. Medsafe in NZ are among those refusing to even speak the word.

It is hard for me to put into words, what a scandal this is. The Federal Republic forced literally millions of Germans to receive not just one, not just two, but at least three novel Covid jabs against a virus that posed genuine risk to very few of them. In many cases the state threatened unemployment for noncompliance, shut the unvaccinated out of public life for months, and even tried to mandate vaccination via the Bundestag.

Of course, NZ was one of the most draconian countries in the world in every aspect of the response to covid. Our government DID mandate, but, according to Hipkins, nobody was forced to get the jab, it wasn’t compulsory……./s

Despite these grave violations of personal autonomy and bodily integrity, the bureaucrats who supported these crimes and justified them with relentless lies about virological doom now plead that their offices simply don’t have the time to establish how safe or how effective the jabs they continue to promote actually were. It’s a lot of work bro, they’re understaffed you know, there’s so much data.

The Germans are having the hard conversation. It’s unpleasant, but it needs to be done.

The rest of the world are also addressing the issues and problems created by covid responses to varying degrees.

The whole political and bureaucratic class in NZ is like the petulant, spoilt kid trying to pretend they didn’t break the window even though they were caught hands down. This is not a sustainable position in a functioning society.

People need to stop pretending it didn’t happen and try and wish it away. It’s not going to happen.

  In the next couple of years there will, eventually, be an acknowledgement that “mistakes were made” , coupled with calls to “forgive”, and “move on”, with perhaps a side-dish of “we need to heal the division”. All of course originating from the authoritarian and in many cases Big-Pharma paid evil weasels in positions of power within health and political bureaucracies and promulgated by their corrupted mouthpieces in media.

      • provide additional funding to increase horse’s performance
      • do a time management study to see if lighter riders would improve productivity
      • purchase an after market product that makes dead horses run faster
      • declare the dead horse has lower overheads and is therefore more cost effective
      • form a quality focus group to find profitable uses for dead horses
      • rewrite the performance requirements for horses
      • and finally if all else fails…..promote the dead horse into a supervisory (management) position

  Because TBH, he gains nothing by apologising now, way too late – and every other party had its hands covered in blood anyway. Id be really surprised if any of the current or soon to be future crop of politicians grows either a pair or a conscience and calls for the Royal Commission we so badly need.

Didn’t catch the whole story on the tv news last night but apparently a couple in their 90s want to be buried in water when they kick the bucket and not in the ground because of climate change.

  Only a few burials at sea are allowed in NZ pa. About 30 years back someone was buried at sea off the W Coast of Akl and it was not done properly and the coffin washed up on the beach.
  
  The Co Op funerals in the UK are marketing this water burial. It is akin to cremation and not much is left at the end.

Herald has a slightly interesting article around the observation of VUW’s Stephen Levine, a prof in African Politics, that there have been over 100 coups in Africa since 1950.

To that we can add a few genocides and revolutions etc.

I think he is very wrong though to say that the first coup was in Togo in Jan 1963.

Coup, and coup-like behaviour, is common through history and is extremely common in pre-colonial African “politics”. (Yes, it really is politics even if it isn’t what we’d call politics in the west).

Most of us are old enough to remember jokes about the South American LP record: 33 revolutions a minute. African

In Africa, coup-like behaviour is as old as the hills. Just look at the Zulu history of Shaka, Dingaan etc. with brothers raising armies to depose the king and take over.

He raises a point though that not all African countries are unstable. Botswana is given as an example. That’s mainly because Botswana is effectively run by foreign mining interests that provide the administrative backbone, infrastructure building etc. Botswana is effectively still a colony – though a commercial rather than state colony.

“As the Western populations grow older with each passing year, Africa is often seen as the future of humanity, with United Nations estimates predicting that the continent will account for 40 per cent of the world’s population by the end of the century.”

And therein lies the biggest challenge for humanity. Africa is the only part of the world that is breeding. Even there it is only the poor and low-IQ that are really breeding (middle class Africans tend to follow Western patterns and have reduced numbers of offspring). As they spill north into Europe, Europe will go with them.

Low IQ and democracy do not mix. We can expect this type of behaviour to escalate.

Who is the DPMC and why don’t Fact have the donors name in full on their announcement of the $50k of funding? That would be the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The 50k of funding is more than they received in total from all other sources from 2020-2022.

  I posted a scenario on GD yesterday which would have Labour only winning two List seats – Jan Tinetti and Grant Roberson.
  
  Who is in and out depends very much on how many Electorate Seats Labour loses. Impossible to say, but my scenario is as good as any other that is plausible.:
  
  Labour gets a Party Vote of 28 percent.
  
  It loses 13 seats – that is all seats with a majority of less than 4,000, plus one of the Wellington seats to the Greens – either Wellington Central or Rongotai, which is plausible. That gives Labour 33 electorate seats. They would only get 2 List seats – Robertson and Tinetti.
  
  Verrall, Jackson, Prime, Rurawhe, Little and Parker – would all be out of Parliament.

Evidently, the Commerce Commission has asked fuel companies to explain ‘concerning’ price variations at the pump.

Why? I would have thought that a lack of price variations would be more of a concern.

Where I live, there are 6 filling stations along a 5km stretch of road, and the pump prices generally range by about 20c/ltr.

That’s a good thing in my book. If I want the cheapest, I go to Pack&Save. If I want a coffee and a muffin, I go to Z.

So a 20-year-old dickhead in Wellington intervened in a Police arrest of a guy he doesn’t know, told the constable that he’s no threat to him, then sucker-punched him so badly the constable suffered significant injuries, including a concussion, nasal bone and facial bone fractures, swelling to the left side of his face and bruising around the eye.

Didn’t bother turning up for sentencing in July, with the Judge noting “It’s taken us some time to get to this sentencing event.”

Still, the Judge really served it to him – 10 months Home D for violent unprovoked assault on a police constable doing his job, and not bothering to turn up to sentencing. it’s like the Dudges have completely given up, and bugger the law-abiding citizens and those we ask to protect us from violent thugs. I can’t imagine why anyone would join the Police these days. I’d be off to Queensland in a heartbeat.

    I have no doubt it is the same in the US and here in NZ.
    I know personally of at least 4 people locally who had concerning adverse effects, but who were berated by local medical staff who insisted that their issues were nothing to do with covid.
    We know for a fact, that doctors who dared question the efficacy of the experimental jabs, routinely lost their licence to practice, were publicly attacked and vilified.
    
    There was a clear campaign to get people to shut up about the jab problems. Evidence showing concerning harm in young males in particular was deliberately suppressed by the government.
    
    The whole covid narrative has been an orchestrated lie from the beginning. Sure, some in the medical professions in NZ were conned and became useful idiots in the process, but there are too many who know this whole thing was wrong, but are too cowardly to admit it.
    
    The depth of malice and wrongdoing in this thing is much deeper than most would like to admit. No wonder there is a battle to shut the narrative down and hope it all goes away.

Experts have a duty of care. They are held responsible for negligence. For example, if you are an engineer, and you design a bridge negligently, and it collapses on the first day of use killing people, you could be held liable for your failures.

For the record, my view is that the Zero Covid Cult was reckless, negligent and extremely damaging.

I believe that Professor Baker deserves to be given the orange jumpsuit.

  That is gross negligence in someone who should be promoting practical solutions to real problems.
  
  Back to your engineering analogy, it’s a bit like an engineer ignoring annoying forces such as wind because, in an ideal world there wouldn’t be wind and gravity etc. and adding the extra re-enforcement to cope with wind makes the bridge look fat.

    Maggy Wassilieff’s second link at 1.42 is well worth reading.
    
    It’s the whole judicial saga of Sri Lankan Tamil Ahamed Aathill Mohammad Samsudeen, who injured eight people in the knife attack at Lynn Mall.
    
    It shows that police and immigration knew he was a terror threat, was following ISIS, and at one recent stage had been armed with a hunting knife.
    
    NZ could not deport him because, though he arrived in NZ on a student visa for an electronics course, he quickly dropped out and claimed, and was granted, refugee status.
    
    The fact that an appeal by Samsudeen was before Immigration and Protection Tribunal may have blocked moves to kick him out of the country, but Crown Law found that NZ could not deport him.
    
    If the two Government security agents had not shot Samsudeen dead in the blood-stained supermarket NZ taxpayers would still be providing him with free bed and board.
    
    The questions are: has the legal block against deporting refugees been lifted; and, if not, how do we get out of the crap international requirements that cause the block?

IRW, Jenna has clearly not got then memo. After initially thinking they were on to a winner with the CTU attack ads, by last night word was going out to cancel the next round of attack ads.

Labour focus groups have reported the ads were an own goal. The initial feedback was:
1. Was hypocritical of Labour, after previously trying to take the high ground about personal attacks and dirty Politics;
2. The direct attack on Luxon & his portrayal in the photo, was seen as a winner for Luxon, as it ellicted sympathy for Luxon;
3. Concern it was a waste of money and the resources could have been better spent;
4. Hipkins and Labour wasted 48 hours explaining themselves rather than advancing their case for winning the election;
5. Negative campaigning turns people off and these ads did just that.
6. Hipkins was not seen as credible denying that Labour were not involved in producing the ads. Labour and the CTU are considered aligned, so it was seen as silly trying to deny they had been part of producing the ads.

All in all, Labour scored a very big own goal, and clearly Lynch is no longer part of the favoured group of media journos.

Honestly, of all its policy areas, climate change and energy could be its bloody downfall. Because Chris Luxon shows no signs that he understands the economics of climate change policies. The only way that Chris Luxon can keep his promise for petrol prices not to rise is to cap ETS prices. Yet a Court has already determined that such an action is unlawful given the Zero Carbon Act championed by Mr Luxon.

  Maybe it was on The Platform, but in an interview with an ETS analyst they maintained the price of carbon would have to increase to at least $170 and probably much higher to achieve targets. It’s currently around $70.
  
  Almost every advocate of the fake “market” mechanism of the ETS is in denial about rising costs. Those that aren’t know the havoc and destruction it will bring and welcome it. End capitalism is the mantra. $10 for petrol won’t stop people using cars; it’ll just make them poorer in all other aspects of life.
  
  Historian Chris Wickham in his history of the end of Rome and the dark/middle ages spoke of that period as being in a state of “radical material simplification”, which is a euphemism for impoverishment.
  
  Rome didn’t choose to fall but apparently we’re hellbent on creating our own dystopian version of it.

  I was somewhat stunned to see the generation numbers from the realtime thing that, IIRC, BY put up yesterday. If I read it correctly, yesterday NZ was using over 80% of the generation availability.
  
  That’s awfully close to the edge even if there is operating margin built in.
  
  How are those 10,000 EV chargers going to get their electricity? Unicorns farting in fans?
  
  Assuming 1/2 of the chargers are in use and they are 120kW chargers, then that’s 600MW extra. Just for the new chargers. That’s about 2/3 of Huntly.
  
  The smashed avo club that like EVs won’t be happy if they can only charge when the sun is shining.
  
  So unless Luxon’s also prepared to put up some reliable generation (coal or nuke) we’re in for a 3rd world energy ride.

    We are going to have cheap petrol – or at least while he is in government the price of New Zealand Units will not be allowed to increase.
    
    We are going to have cheap, renewable electricity (which means wind for the new capacity he is planning)
    
    We are going to meet all our emissions targets for 2030 and then zero for 2050.

        It doesn’t matter if he said it. The Net Zero target is insane regardless of whether he said petrol would not go up or it would go up. Hint: it will go up because oil is a direct target of any carbon pricing and carbon price will go through the roof to create the necessary level of carbon offsets to bring about Net Zero, or as I like to say, the end of the world as we know it.

  The original version of this article said annual house sales in New Zealand totalled 4000. This figure relates to sales to foreign buyers in 2018. We apologise for the error.
  
  Ironically, or perhaps more hilariously, Mr Wilson’s attack article starts out “Have you met Mr Numbers yet? He’s been touring the country, talking to “tens of thousands” of people (his words), telling them a lot of numbers.” Before telling the nation how wrong wrong wrong the numbers are.

The latest promise from Luxon shows how out of touch he and all politicians are with the general public. Promising to use OUR money to build more EV outlets is insane. Most of us cannot afford an ev vehicle we are concerned about the cost of our food., whether we are safe in our streets, can get a doctors appointment, and having to listen to all this gender crap from extremists, brain washing of our kids at school and a media which has lost its compass. I give up they are all a bunch of clowns, and WE pay their wages.

Boness was the party’s candidate for Auckland central and was ranked 41st on the party list.

Two young women have allegedly stolen $40,000 worth of groceries, in a spate of supermarket thefts that span just two months.

According to police, the 22-year-old and 26-year-old are facing 29 charges of theft after targetting Auckland supermarkets.

The pair were caught after police noticed a car driving with smashed rear windscreen – and recognised the girls as the offenders wanted for numerous shoplifting incidents.

I would like to highlight some of the fallacious assumptions which underpin promises being made by political parties of all stripes this election campaign
1) That New Zealand will return to pre-covid levels of tourism. Currently it’s at about 75%. In Spain, Greece and in other Mediterranean countries it’s at about 105%. The world has returned to and passed pre-covid tourism. New Zealand is remote, expensive to access and visit, and its approach to Covid lockdowns has put people off taking the risk. Don’t bet on tourism
2) That Chinese house buyers will rush back into the market. They won’t. The Chinese economy is in the shitter. The Chinese will buy in Australia, Canada and the US ahead of New Zealand. That doesn’t leave much money over.
3) That overseas student levels will return to pre-covid levels. See 1) above. They haven’t and won’t, particularly when New Zealand’s education system becomes progressively inward looking.
4) That inflation will reduce. It won’t. The NZ economy is in the doldrums. The only way to avoid becoming a third world country is to borrow even more. Borrowing causes inflation
5) That lots of highly skilled people will fall over themselves to come and boost the economy. In fact the reverse is true. Lots of highly skilled people are falling over themselves to leave. The health system is in decline, crime levels seem to be heading up, and the country is becoming badly polarised. Sure, that applies to Oz, Canada, and the US as well, but they are far more attractive destinations.
The reality that will have to be grappled with is that there is only one way that New Zealand will have a future. Work more, borrow less.

  Work more, borrow less. Not many votes in that of course, and therein lies the problem.
  Point 5 is the real killer IMO. For some reason NZ seems to prefer and put it’s resources into the needy rather than the capable. The Nats tax package is a good example – can’t have a tax cut that reduces tax in proportion to how much tax people actually pay. Instead they propose to maybe look at the 39% rate in the 2nd term – or maybe not.

  Well said. The hubris from Labour in expecting a return to pre COVID numbers after a series of lockdowns that would make the CCP blush. NZ is finding out the hard way there are other places on Earth just as nice if not nicer.
