  The article is misleading. It suggests DB disagrees with Batchelor but that’s not what they said. Theirs is simply a beef with the use of what they consider to be their own catchphrase, Yeah Right!

        I agree to be able to trade mark a remark “yeah right” , on it’s own and out of a tui context seems like a nonsense .
        
        However I could go along with a tui bird brand , the colours and ‘yeah right’ , all packaged together as a trademark.
        
        I don’t know what Batch has done nor do I care .
        
        But I repeat I very much doubt the simple expression “yeah right” without the other stuff ie tui and colours could constitute a breach .
        
        I remain open to persuasion otherwise .

      Hahahahah…… That included many, many right-wingers like me who made sure we got to the polls so we could end fucking Muldoon.
      
      For a guy who’s into the detailed mechanics of politics you have some … surprising blind spots. Labour themselves, here and in Britain, acknowledged for years that they needed a very good GOTV game on election day because of their voter’s reluctance to face the wind and rain.
      
      Or the morning removal of the bed covers. 🙂
      
      Meanwhile in the USA the Democrats long moaned about the GOP’s superior GOTV efforts on election day.
      
      Fortunately mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting has swung the needle back the other way. 😉

        Ah, no, Tom: detailed (perhaps; that’s not for me to say) mechanics of elections, not politics. So, you’ve picked out one ‘blind spot’ that isn’t one of my blind spots (of which I’m sure I have several) at all.
        
        And, in 1984, I, too, tried to get rid of Muldoon, although, in Miramar (Peter Neilson), my vote for Peter Button (New Zealand Party) was ineffective in that regard.
        
        My point was, it’s so easy to say what lastmanstanding said, or that if it’s wet, the Lefties will stay home, without ever providing (in the New Zealand context) any evidence.
        
        Have you seen post-election studies suggesting such phenomena has happened in New Zealand? I haven’t. But I am aware that, in 1999, the turnout was 84.77%, but, on 27 July 2002, when National crashed to 20.93% of the total of Party votes, the turnout was 76.98%. What could explain that, I wonder?

        Let’s face it, though. There was no way that you would ever have suggested that it was the fact of a mid-winter election – cold, perhaps wet, conditions – that kept National voters in their, dare I say it, “warm, dry”, homes that day, was there?
        
        I say again, there is no evidence whatsoever that All Black losses, or wet and/or cold conditions, have ever adversely affected either the vote for the incumbent party (whether Labour or National), or election turnouts. Yet, right-wingers will happily continue to suggest such nonsense, regardless, safe in the knowledge that, here on Kiwiblog, they’ll get a free pass – well, at least until someone like me happens along.

Time for a sea change in voting habits.

Recent statements from Mr Luxon wherein he rejects most of ACT’s policies have made it clear that the most suitable coalition partner for National is Labour. Therefore its time to relegate National to number two on the center right and make ACT the primary opposition.

As a disenfranchised conservative, I don’t like either ACT or National, but I’m not blind. Making David Seymour the Prime Minister will bring about at least some of the changes that are so desperately needed. It won’t happen under a Luxon led green-left National.

  I heard Barry Soper give an after dinner talk recently. He said Luxon would find dealing with Winston a piece of cake compared to David Seymour. All he would have to do is offer Winston the baubles of office and he would be no trouble. Seymour would expect real changes in policies.

  Name the significant policy differences between National and Labour:
  1. Tax – almost identical
  2. Health – Nats not keen on race based stuff, but not really saying much else
  3. Education – mostly the same
  4. Police – possibly the biggest difference, Labour very soft
  5. Retirement – same
  6. Welfare – mostly the same
  7. Climate Change – same rubbish from both
  8. Race Relations – Labour slightly more radical with developing Māori separatism, but Nats still very woke on this one
  9. Govt Expenditure – Nats so far reducing spend by $1 billion, so not significant
  
  So it’s hard to say that this National team aren’t “Labour Lite”.

    Tax – almost identical? No way. Just wait until after the election, and Hipkins changing his mind about a CGT or Wealth Tax if Labour won. National also proposes to link tax thresholds to inflation.
    Health – National will disestablish the Maori Health Authority and return to having targets for hospitals to meet. Labour abolished targets.
    Education – National will disestablish Te Pukenga, reintroduce student assessments, and put the focus on learning core subjects, not Matauranga Maori, as Labour is trying to introduce into the curriculum across the board.
    Retirement – National proposes an increase in the age of eligibility for superannuation to 67 over 20 years. National’s indexation of tax thresholds will increase superannuation payments to seniors because super is calculated from the median after-tax income. Labour wants to keep the status quo, despite having had a rise to 67 as policy in 2017.
    Race relations – National opposes any co-governance of public services. They will repeal Three Waters, disestablish the Maori Health Authority and overturn the ability for councils to create Maori wards when voters do not support them.
    Government expenditure – stand by for National to release its fiscal policy some time after PREFU on Tuesday. The policy has been deliberately held back so Luxon, Willis and co know exactly how bad the economy is. But there will be significant cuts to Crown expenditure like stopping the $60 billion spend on Auckland Light Rail.

      Reading that very carefully doesn’t refute what Grunter says. It actually confirms it. Tinkering with governance arrangements like Te Pukenga and all waters doesn’t amount to a major policy difference. Same with superannuation. National and Labour have flip flopped on eligibility age. One says it’ll move up, the other says no need to make any such change. When one party changes its policy, the other does the same.
      
      Hipkins is offside with his own party on tax, esp a wealth tax, but after the election, he’ll be like Robbo on his about face over GST on fruit and veges.
      
      The only parties in Parliament arguing major policies to change the status quo are Act and the Greens, and the latter would ruin this country very quickly.

      Not wishing to speak for Grunter, but maybe he means (on tax) that National’s “Back Pocket Boost” simply hands out more Working for Families in many instances. For example, the tables on page 26 and 27 of that document show that a two income household with two children earning from $40,000 – $95,000 will from 2024 get “annual income relief” of $1,524 of which $1,300 is an additional WFF benefit. In 2026 that “annual income relief” on the same nominal earnings rises to $3,495 of which $3,271 is an additional WFF benefit. Maybe he sees National’s response as “rewarding” minimum wage earners for not improving their station in life and ensuring a shrinking pool of net taxpayers.

      I know you’re a National booster Tony, but really?
      
      It’s what they’re saying. We’ll see what happens when they win power. I’m not confident, especially after nine years of John Key, whom I voted for in 2011, 2014 and National in 2017 as a desperate throw-of-the-dice (hell, I voted for Bill in the death election of 2002 so why not):
      
      what is National going to do should it win this November beyond babysitting the institutions of Labour and the Left. Nursing those things along, tiring all the time and steadily losing votes simply by being in Government and getting blamed for the insanities of those self-same institutions. Until the day comes, one or two election cycles down the road, when a revitalised Labour gets back into power and gets to push forward some more. Ratchet Socialism at its best.
      
      Me here on Kiwiblog in 2008. The ratchet – or should I say rack – has wrung a few turns since then as we can see from what Labour picked up in 2017.
      
      2029 or 2032 will be worse after six or nine years of Mr Luxon and friends.

    Again, not true, how the hell do you find them the same on tax? Nats wanting to deliver tax cuts, Labour want to keep stealing your money, totally the opposite. Education, Labour have let education drift yo a basket case, yet Nats want the basic reading writing and arithmetic taught, yesterday they stated that teaches will tech kids how to read and write by law, none of this crap about kids learn like they do playing rubbish.       National are doing a rinse and repeat – which is tinkering with welfare. The best example is last week’s announcement that it would retain Labour’s school lunches programme.
      
      Perhaps it makes good politics in an election during a cost of living emergency (but don’t we have that every election?), but the school lunch programme was originally in response to falling attendance and educational achievements. But now it’s been proven to be completely ineffective, and much of the food goes to the homeless. In short, it’s expensive and untargetted welfare.
      
      That last point is why National and Labour are so similar, they both peddle welfare. National knows it’s more harmful than helpful, but maintain the welfare extensions started by Labour.

    I posted on the chances of this happening some weeks ago and the response from Kiwibloggers was pretty lukewarm IIRC. I still think there is a likelihood of Nats putting at least a confidence and supply agreement in place with the Greens.
    
    Three reasons-
    
    1) Nat’s current power group (Luxon et al) don’t like ACT. They perceive them as too far right.
    
    2) Luxon and especially Todd Muller have frequently spoken of their regard for Jimmy Shaw. Sure Muller is going but it still suggests there is a core group there that thinks the same way.
    
    3) I recently published this video on Twitter and when someone as radical as Marama Davidson flatly refuses to rule out any agreement with National, it signals there has to be something going on.

  He might be “facing” charges. All but the most biased can see that this is because the political scandal got so great, Biden’s and the Democrat’s electoral success was threatened They had to do something.
  Will the charges be reduced? Has a sweetheart deal done been done with a compliant judge? If he is convicted, will he get a wet bus-ticket sentence?
  That is the thing which should be discussed.

    Agreed. I just thought I’d kick off with a bit of satirical probing to wet our appetites.
    
    Point being of all the charges Biden H could be facing, the gun charge is the only one which innoculates Biden Senior from having to be called to witness.
    
    The other issues relating to shell companies, foreign bribes, Tax evasion, money disbursed to Biden family from foreign sources, the selling of political favours, getting investigations shut down with leveraged USA Aid, meetings between Prosecution Council and Whitehouse, cocaine in the Whitehouse, attempts to charge Trump which miraculously seem to call for his presence in court during the election-cycle, and of course recent calls to bar Trump from standing on the falsely claimed basis he has ‘incited insurrection’ – well all of that – is just ‘hearsay’, and not worthy of investigation or discussion.
    
    For now.

  Lee, it appears the end of the line is approaching the Bidens as even CNN are questioning Joe’s appallingly low approval ratings. Kamala is cackling on about how VPs have taken the oath of office seriously and will take on the role of President should there be a vacancy. Her ratings of course are near zero and the Dem machine must be lining up Gavin Newsom as the future contender. There is speculation that Obama is pulling the strings behind the scenes but that Tucker interview with the gay Sinclair may stall his endeavours.

Yesterday I watches an interview with the Bud Light marketing woman. She’s all about her happiness and her feelz etc – not much about understanding the customer. All that she really seemed to know about the customers is that they were, in her words, frat boys and had a need to change them.

These people don’t really seem to understand why there was such a backlash, but it is pretty obviously really.

After putting up with a workplace and an outside world which is hounding over their toxic masculinity etc, the average beer customer just wants to get home, crack open a beer and enjoy their have a breather from it all.

They just want a beer. They don’t want another fucking lecture!

So surprise, surprise, they leave the Bud on she shelves and choose some other brand.

There’s a message in here for other companies if they care to look for it. Be careful Mitre 10 etc and, of course, NZ beer brands.

        I have a gifted son. I got roundly told off by his teacher because he was streets ahead of the other students and it made her life difficult. It wasn’t anything to do with me…the kid was very bright. he learnt to shut up in class, and, no, he wasn’t a smart ass. Anyway he had the last laugh, he is probably earning 4 times more than she ever earned and has a highly successful career.

  Anecdotally, I hear about a lot of issues with our schools and the completely laissez faire approach by teachers and head teachers.
  
  My own grandson is a fairly sharp young kid and is absolutely bored senseless at school – he does most of his learning at home and is constantly ahead of his peers – not through school but through reading and maths he does at home – his writing is atrocious but 2 out of 3 I suppose. In a previous generation, he’d probably have been advanced to a more appropriate level – currently, left to his own devices most of the week it would seem. And this isn’t unusual – most of his class are the same, just seems by a quirk of genetics he’s got a good brain and likes learning so does it in his own time at home….where as the others who don’t have the outside support of parents that give a shit, well it seems they tend to bob along at best.
  
  One of my friends constantly updates me on the issues at her daughters school. Complete lack of discipline, kids running amok, disruptive girl running around with scissors cutting other kids hair, bullying, fighting, general chaos. She’s been trying to get her kids moved from the school and has been battling with the MOE for years now. It’s a complete shambles – every good teacher leaves the school within a year or two, including one young teacher who was brilliant and actually decided to leave teaching rather than continue due to be completely frustrated at the MOE.
  
  All anecdotal but if this is even a vaguely accurate of the state of education at large, we are in deep, deep shit as a country and it’s going to take a lot of time to sort this shit show out!

Got to Remuera primary and we got a real wake up at the first parent/teacher. She was actually concerned he might have been retarded! He finished Dux 👌

  Latest ep of Triggernometry podcast – interview with an ex judge at the Old Bailey in London.presided over thousands of homicide trials. Super interesting in many regards.
  
  One thing in particular she said was the more than 50% of those in her court have a low primary level literacy age. So not at 10 year old level, more like 7yrs.
  
  Correlation is not causation but makes me think they should extend this reading literacy programme to our prisons.
  
  She also talked about long sentences being problematic as people go in at 20. Come out having spent more than half their life in prison and have no chance of reintegrating. She wasn’t saying sentences should be shorter but that it is hard to balance justice against punishment and safety of the public factors (deterrent being irrelevant to 18 yo brains).

The new Blenheim library was set up with a Maori name only. When asked about it, Maori ward councillor and non mana whenua Allanah Burgess, of Te Ātiawa and Ngāi Tahu arrogantly said

“The building is named Te Kahu o Waipuna, and if you don’t know that’s a library, then there’s something seriously wrong”.

I searched in vain for the traditional Maori word for ‘book’, let alone ‘library’.

      The thing I’ve noticed, is that Maori don’t respect other cultures.
      
      Every word has to have a Maori replacement word. Even place names.
      
      I was on a plane to Christchurch and they had that quiz thingy going. Every answer had a Maori translation. Half of them were simply phonetic approximations. Such as puka for book, something Maori never had, and therefore never had a word for.
      
      Every other language will use the original foreign word for a foreign concept.

  This is not unusual now.
  
  Apparently the local folks of Rolleston outside Christchurch got completely ignored when they enquired, rather timidly I might add, if their brand new spanking library building might actually have the English word library added somewhere to the building.
  
  Some of the reasoning for the council refusing to budge were weird. It would spoil the existing fancy Maori sign. There wasn’t any space outside on the building. It wasn’t really a library as there was a cafe inside also (my personal fave – this would rule out most CBD libraries then).
  
  I had a look at the stats for Selwyn – under 10% Maori. So we have a situation where in a mainly non-Maori township, they aren’t even bothering with bi-lingual sings.
  
  This is happening throughout NZ.

    I grew up in a town which had big public facility called the Municipal Swimming Pool.
    Not sure how many of us kids knew what Municipal meant . But we knew how to get to it, no problem.
    It was generally known far and wide as the Munies.

      Once upon a time they were the “baths” , then you have your “muni . swimming pool” then they became “pool complex” , then the very fashionable “aquatic centre” and now it’s regressed into unintelligble gibberish.

        The best name ever for a swimming pool has to be “The Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Centre” in Glen Iris, Melbourne.
        For the younger among us Harold Holt was the Australian Prime Minister who drowned while swimming in appalling conditions near Portsea in the Melbourne area. His body was never recovered.
        Imagine having such a thing named after you if you had drowned?

  While there are proxies for measuring weather in the past (e.g. oxygen isotopes in ice, or pollens found in sediment etc), “hottest/coldest on record” depends when they started measuring the temperature. A big weekend for sports and that’s reflected in the Ferald’s cartoon , a scrum theme but again they can’t help themselves .It’s Luxon complaining to the ref that someone’s offended him calling him “Old 7 houses Luxon ” ( Emmerson) .

I hope the Nats are paying attention to this election interference , which isn’t foreign but domestic , and all those who blither on about same .The bias is palpable.

And the editorial reeks of hypocrisy ; the Warriors are so wunnerful using a chartered jet ; this from a propaganda organ self obsessed with climate catastrophism and not one word of sustainablitity or carbon emissions.

  Very simple solution post-election of National / ACT are in government. Slash any subsidies, cut the advertising and let Stuff, Herald etc survive on their own. I think we all know where that will end.
  
  I’d love to see RNZ and TVNZ privatised also, but one can dream.
  
  Problem is we’ll probably get the same cosying up to the media in the forlorn hope of them somehow giving National and ACT a fair go.
  
  I’m not a huge fan of Trump but I do respect his acumen in correctly sizing up the media’s inherent left wing bias and went completely around them. Our centre right politicians should think about that.

I’ve been reading an entertaining book about cursed objects, and found in it the story from about ten years ago about Te Papa trying to ban menstruating or pregnant women from viewing tapu Maori artefacts. In the face of public outrage the museum first tried to explain that it was for the women’s own safety, since some of the objects had been used to kill, and then backed down altogether.

I wonder how that would play these days, now that we are required to treat Maori folklore and superstition as equivalent to science?

Yesterday I was looking at the National candidate for Chistchurch Central. Seems a sensible enough guy. So I was thinking I may as well vote for him as ACT will never win the electorate.

If many ACT voters give their electorate votes to National, does that pose a danger to National List candidates? Let’s say National gets 34 percent of the Party vote ACT gets 16 percent of the Party vote. But half of ACT voters give their electorate vote to the National candidate.

Could we have a scenario where National ends up with few, or potentially no List MPs?

    It would take some industrial scale collusion and rorting of the system to get National to an overhang situation. Possible though, and one of the (many) flaws in our MMP system.
    Easy fix though, just make a rule that says you can only bring in electorate MP’s if you get enough party vote nationally.

  Even as an ACT supporter I’m voting for the National candidate in Wigram, with ACT getting my party vote. There seems little point in voting for the local ACT candidate when National offers the best hope we have of ejecting Megan Woods.
  
  However I’m very open to having any flaws in my thinking pointed out. I want to place my votes where they will have the greatest effect in removing the current regime.

  That’s the only power of the electorate vote; barring overhangs, the electorate vote gives voters the chance to choose the make up of a parliamentary team rather than the party apparatcheks who rank party lists.
  A possible scenario for this election where Labour is so despised but National isn’t polling particularly highly either, is that National could win enough electorate seats to get an overhang, so ACT voters, and in fact anyone wanting a change of government, should definitely vote for the local National candidate, including in Epsom.

        Plenty of Epsom voters may move their vote but the fact is they get two electorate MPs. Seymour is a very active electorate MP, running frequent street corner meetings, attending the local schools etc. Paul Goldsmith is not quite so visible around the electorate. So nothing dumb about voting for Seymour if you want a hard working electorate MP.
        
        There are some dumb strategies at play next door to Epsom. In Mount Albert – Melissa Lee is hardly visible in the electorate. Has chosen to locate her party office on Great South Road in the heart of Epsom, with Paul Goldsmith.
        
        While Mt Albert has been a labour seat under reigning Prime Ministers H1 and Jacinda I don’t believe it should be viewed as a safe labour seat. The Nat candidate prior to Lee was gaining votes. The area has had significant gentrification over the past 20 years. Current labour candidate Helen White has been invisible in the current parliament. People are at their lowest ebb for supporting red and green.
        
        I believe ACT would have been better standing BVW in that electorate rather than trying to take a crack at Simon O’Connor. Thus alienating the wider traditional values community.
        
        Or National should get serious about taking the electorate, Melissa Lee should move her electorate office somewhere around Dominion Road and give the electorate a real crack!

  I will be voting Cameron Brewer in Upper Harbour, and Party vote Act.
  I would like to see UpperHarbour back in National’s hands. Labour only won by 2000 odd votes. With all of the money in this area it is unbelievable that people voted Labour.
  Jake Bezzant inherited a 9000 advantage from Paula Bennet into a 2392 lose to Vanushi Walters. Woman problems and he got crucified.

  If national win 40 electorate seats, no list MP’s. Less than 40 electorate seats, the difference is made up of list MP’s that haven’t won seats, by list ranking. More than 40 electorate seats, overhang.

        I doubt Italy is any real threat.
        
        It’s South Africa that’ll hurt us, again. But if we can somehow get our heads out of our asses and harden up enough to get over them we’ll meet Australia in the semis.
        
        A problem is that our three remaining pool games are against somewhat easy-beats whereas South Africa has a fairly hard group playing Ireland, Scotland, Tonga and even Romania, which will toughen them immensely for the quarters.

        I do jest…..mostly! Agree with 13 – we should beat Italy. Dare say they’ll be competitive for about 60 minutes or so and give us a hard time but even a poor AB’s team should have enough to beat Italy. Might be closer than it should be, but we should get through.
        
        However, we are playing pretty clueless rugby and anything can happen – Italy could have the game of their lives (they gave France a big scare and Ireland a good game during the six nations) and we could have one of those games where everything goes wrong. Could even come down to a moment of madness and we end up with a red card (my big fear – we have some players that are card magnets at the moment).
        
        At the end though, suspect we’ll end up playing SA and sadly, I think that will probably be it.

I suspect many Labour back benchers and some Cabinet Ministers will be scrambling to look for work post 14 October. Any organisation that employs them clearly doesnt value its reputation a case of Losers hiring Losers. I will endevour to avoid dealing with any such organisations at all costs.

      400 metres from where I live in Tauranga Matua every Saturday morning the local field is covered with many hundreds of young children, and family supporters playing football. There are something like 20 plus pitches from 5/6 years old’s to full size.
      The noise is terrific and I walk there and it is a joy to see.
      From it I see a future for New Zealand every time..

I’m conflicted on this one. Common humanity means we should help these people. But, the scammer escapes with his ill-gotten gains & the taxpayer picks up the tab.

Personally, I think we should consider the guest-worker approach. Offer limited term work visas [for low wage roles – doctors etc to follow a different path] with no right to permanent residence, let alone permanent migration. There are any number of Third World workers who will leap at the chance to live here for (say) three years & earn by their standards good coin – the RSE scheme shows that.

    I looked at that (very average) kicking and thought, why play to the strength of European teams which is the kicking game?
    
    France looked pretty bushed early on and we should have battered them to a standstill but all that kicking and the penalties we gave away–13-4?–just let them back in and they ended up having a great time, laughing and smiling even before the match was over. They knew they had us.

    Beauden Barrett loves kicking up and unders, but the reality is the probability of regaining possession from that is about 20%. So 4 times out of 5 you’re just gifting hard-won possession back to your opponent.

      Yep – at the start, would agree he was bad at changing things. In 2007 he was particularly crap at changing things. In 2011 he was more confident but that final was way to uncomfortable – still the ‘lead from the front’ approach. However, by 2015 he and the core around him were so much in control that I think almost anyone could have coached them to the cup – they would constantly adapt and a lot of that came down to in-game captains calls.
      
      Good example of this is the semi-final 2015 against South Africa. AB’s being pinged constantly at the breakdown. Early in the second half, McCaw gathers the forwards and they stop contesting the breakdown until the ref says out – watch the game, they are waiting and have eye’s on the ref and wait until he says it – effectively took the ref out of the game. The Bok’s were in the game because of penalties – they took the ref out of play and closed it out. That was captaincy – that was a plan – they also started kicking for territory more so any penalties were in the Bok’s 22. Seem’s pretty strategic. Backed up by a strong group who trusted each other implicitly.
      
      I know a few old folks who coached against him when he was coming up through the ranks when he played at Lincoln University – brilliant and too bloody smart are the phrases constantly used.

Shares in Apple have fallen for a second day in a row after reports that Chinese government workers have been banned from using iPhones.

The firm’s stock market valuation has fallen by more than 6%, or almost $200bn (£160bn), in the past two days.

  The Chinese are well aware that these technologies can be used to for spying and data collection. They know exactly how it works, because that is what they do with their own products. A former Immigration Minister, Tuariki John Delamere, now an immigration consultant, is ordered to pay a former customer nearly half a million dollars.

Delamere and the customer were using the fast-track investor scheme, but that required the Chinese customer to hire three NZ citizens or permanent residents for two years.

Though I take no pleasure in it, I’ve been predicting for months now that Foster would add yet another unwanted record, surely now the worst coach in ABs history.

Two weeks after presiding over a shambles at Twickenham where we suffered our biggest defeat in history, the All Blacks were very well beaten by France, registering their first ever loss in a RWC pool match.

I am currently in NZ having a bit of R and R – for all its appeal, one needs to get out of Tonga often to stay sane.

I am struck by how many working class guys I know who are planning to vote ACT, many for the first time. My local mechanic – a long time Labour man – is voting ACT. Down at an old fashioned pub yesterday – very few actual “pubs” left – I got into conversation with a table of tradies. All but one were voting ACT, the other one said he was voting National “to make sure” [there is a change of government

I am starting to believe Labour is going to get a real hiding rather than just losing by some margin.

        Bene: Thank you. One of the many amusing and quaint customs the Tongans have is that they celebrate wildly when their rugby team plays an international – regardless of the result. I’ts all a bit confusing; one always has to ask if they won or lost.
        
        I am also told that nothing has changed in the 23 years since I watched Tonga beat France in 2000 – one of only two rugby tests I have attended in my life.
        
        The Tongan crowds were , and I’m told they remain, extremely sporting: there is polite applause when the visitors score a try, and complete silence when the conversion is attenpted. None of the boorish booing and hissing that is apparently still the norm here.

Ioane’s break early on looked spectacular but is he the epitome of everything wrong with the orblax?
He ran a straight line, as he always does, no variation in speed except when tackled and was oblivious to Aaron Smith and another AB, unmarked, inside him.
He does not have the instincts and foresight needed by an international centre. He should have been looking for support as soon as he made the break because 99.9% of the time he is covered by the defence.
The backline has no flair or variation. Standard MO is the dummy runner followed by a pass followed by a dummy runner. No moves, no foresight. How many readers can remember Going brothers and the double scissors. Maybe wouldn’t work under current rules but at least they thought of something new.
Watching them today was all a bit depressing – especially the kicking.

      However, I can’t vote for any party that refuses to acknowledge that the response to covid was not only an utter failure, but it destroyed the lives of, and killed or injured many thousands of innocent people.

      It didn’t destroy my life, but it did to numerous friends.
      
      It caused permanent damage to my family relationships and cost many friendships. It cost me 2 years of my life when I was segregated and othered. I couldn’t travel and couldn’t access 95% of retail outlets because I wasn’t jabbed, wouldn’t mask and wouldn’t play the moronic game.
      It cost me substantial loss of income.

        Clan: No, I have no “inside information”; but then I am not really in the ACT tent anymore, although I still support them.
        
        Back when Seymour was a one man band, he often sought my input on law and order matters and policy, but of the late the official ACT policy – or perhaps I should say Seymour’s policy – imposed on the rest their caucus – is to distance the party from me as much as they can.
        
        I hear what you are saying, and FWIW from my limited knowledge I think there was considerable harm done by the “vaccines”. I have to say though that IMO there is as much hysteria and hyperbole among “your lot” as there was on part of the powers that be at the other end of the spectrum three years ago,
        
        As I see it, your claims of massive numbers of people adversely affected by the jabs are as difficult to sustain as were the supposed massive numbers of people Ardern was going to “save” by jabbing us all.
        
        My point remains: You will never find a political party you totally agree with, so you hold your nose and vote for the one which most aligns with your thinking – for me that is still ACT – or you don’t vote at all, which is a cop out.

        DG, I get your point entirely and will be voting Act again this year.
        
        But for some it is rather raw. Seymour can come across a bit smugly and joined in with all the others.
        
        If you look at what Seymour’s stance was, I think it was pretty reasonable most of the time.
        
        He said there should be alternatives for people that didn’t want to get vaxxed (eg testing). Now that’s not too logical, but would have been about the best you could ask for given the fear etc.
        He is also on record saying that the unvaxxed should be listened to, but he failed to follow through himself.
        
        I think that ultimately many view Act as a libertarian party and felt let down when that illusion was shattered.
        
        IMHO, Act is far from libertarian, but is perhaps the closest we will get.

Dr John Campbell studies the excess mortality figures from around the world. The graph clearly shows the correlation between high rates of vaccination and this disturbing trend.

The countries with the highest jab rates are suffering the greatest excess all cause mortality. NZ is number 4 in the world. (Seymour still claims we have negative all cause mortality.)

The poorer eastern European countries with the lower vaccination rates have actually gone negative in all cause mortality numbers.

It is beyond doubt now that correlation IS causation. There are only so many times you get away with claiming that all of the negative outcomes associated with covid policies are ‘just a coincidence’.

It’s a short video and shows in stark terms just how horrendous the actions taken by all of our governments actually were. Particularly places like NZ whose PM is now denying they forced people to take this poison.

Hipkins should be accompanying Ardern, Bloomfield, Baker, Wiles, Hendy, Verrall and a number of others to the dock of a courtroom.
They should all be serving lengthy jail terms.

      When the 14th Amendment was passed Congress defined insurrection as “unlawful obstructions, combinations, assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States [that] make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the U.S.”
      
      That sounds exactly like Jan 6 to me. The specific legal question is to what *legal* extent (as opposed to moral extent) Trump is responsible for the Jan 6 insurrection.

He claims the National Party loathe the Act Party, that the Act Party come from the left. Also a strong Act Party election would be quite a brake on the National Party and Luxon’s woke policies.

The scenario is, Luxon reaching over to the Greens and NZF. Peters keeps the Greens quiet while Luxon gets on with ‘fixing the climate’. Peters can front the Maori stuff.

It means National could destroy Act who are actually becoming a threat to the Nats……..

    They now support academic ideologies and bribe poor people to vote for them. They don’t support true working class people.
    
    National appear to be making the same mistake in their desire to hold the middle ground. They are abandoning their core voters rather than focusing on doing the right things and trusting voters are able to comprehend this.
    
    The outcome of this election will be interesting, we know Labour are gone, but the changing dynamics are certainly going to be interesting. National haven’t been moving at all. Other parties are, NZF, Act etc, but National are static.

Such a disappointing game this morning. The All Blacks are just a shadow of previous teams to wear the jersey. Poor kicking, lots of mistakes, poor attack for large parts of the game. We have no chance of winning this World Cup unless we can find our mojo but I don’t really believe Foster is capable of turning it around, the writing has been on the wall for a while but the dinosaurs at NZRU have just let it keep going.

    I follow a bit of NRL (much more interesting than super rugby IMHO) and I think they are a pretty good team at the moment so definitely have a chance – they aren’t at the Panthers / Broncos / Storm level but definitely competitive against the rest of the finalists. It would be a big shock if they win against the Panthers – if not and if they end up playing against the Knights, it will be a home game so very much even odds I’d say (both one the home fixture this year I think). Regardless, unless they can pull out a miracle result tonight, there are at least three much better teams than them this year so I doubt that this will be their year.

    Consider all the public servants. Sure we require some of them (especially the front line staff in healthcare etc). But we could do without half of the white collar public servants. For them a return makes sense.

    3.2million enrolled. So govt benefit recipients >50% of those enrolled to vote.

  The only Maori that would benefit from the abolition of prisons would be Maori criminals. Like the rest of us, Maori would be far better off if all the criminals amongst them were taken out of the society.

I was talking to a young mum who had had a premature baby recently. Apparently the hospital was experiencing a very large increase in premature births. Staff were being run off their feet. Conjecture was that maybe it was due to Covid and or the vaccine. There has been no publicity about this increase.

  Excess deaths in highly vaxxed western countries have been running at about 10% average for last year and a half. For NZ that is about 5000 excess deaths, about the same as our official 4500 covid death toll (cf 10-15000 for western countries where covid went through population in ’20-’21) .
  
  For less vaccinated countries – like most of eastern Europe excess deaths have been close to or even below zero for the same period.
  
  It’s now reached the point where the excess deaths that appear to be vaccination caused (with no sign of slow down yet) are exceeding the lives saved by the vaccines – administered at a point where most of covid damage had already been done.
  Vaccination only became pervasive as low risk omicron was taking over, and after earlier more lethal variants had been through most of population.

maybe being an act candidate isn’t safe, lol

Act Party’s Taranaki King Country candidate, Brent Miles, has withdrawn his candidacy just weeks out from the general election.

Miles, who stood for ACT at the 2020 election, withdrew last week for personal reasons, making him the fifth candidate for the party to pull out in recent weeks.

A party spokesperson told Stuff they would not be making further comment.

    Maybe these defections are the people who liked being part of ACT outside of Government , for reasons of ego, but with the real possibility of becoming MPs and all the responsibility involved they chickened-out.

We know Labour will do anything to hang on to the Treasury benches. They have no bottom lines. Whatever it takes. Nothing is sacred.
