175,000 are forecast to pay to visit attend a four month exhibition of Marvel comics at the new Wellington Conference Centre. That’s more than 1,000 per day, every day.

Seems unlikely to me; I’d be relaxed about that, except that I have a sneaking suspicion that ratepayers will be on the hook for any shortfall.

  NZ$150,000 worth of fireworks launched Sesqui 1990 on 23 February 1990, with the festival opening the following day.
  
  The festival organisers had made a decision to split the event between two venues, one at the Wellington Waterfront and the other at the (then) Wellington Show and Sports Centre (Winter Show Building) in Newtown. Despite the arrangement of a shuttle bus service between these two venues, this decision had the effect of confusing and frustrating potential visitors to the festival, with the result that neither venue attracted visitor numbers beyond an average of 2,500 per day.
  
  The organisers had also adopted a policy against advertising the daily schedules for musical and other performances taking place at either venue. This policy was based on the assumption that it would encourage visitors to prolong their stay and to make numerous return visits so as not to miss seeing favourite performers. As a result, a number of popular musicians, singers and other entertainers played to largely empty houses because the public did not know when or where they were performing.
  
  Within days of the opening of the festival, media reports began to suggest that it was faltering. During a heated radio interview, Wellington City Councillor Ruth Gotlieb maintained that it was “every Wellingtonian’s civic duty to attend Sesqui.”
  
  Pre-ticket sales had reached only 2.4% of targets, and after opening, the $12 entry fee to the festival soon dropped to $6 in a desperate bid to attract visitors.[1] The highest attendance figure was achieved during the final days of the event, when 32,000 visitors took advantage of a decision to waive all entry fees, which were widely regarded as being excessive.
  
  Although planned to run for six weeks, Sesqui 1990 closed after only 12 days, on 7 March 1990, with debts in excess of NZ$6.4 million.
  
  Aftermath
  The collapse of the Sesqui 1990 festival forced a number of small companies that had been contracted to supply various goods and services to the event into receivership and/or bankruptcy. The Wellington Show Association was liquidated in 1999.

    The band I was in did a brief preliminary performance at the show buildings, for the councillors. They all drove Jags, and the women were all wearing winter fur coats. Looked like a lot of ego’s right there. At the ratepayers expense.
    
    Next we performed at the outdoor area on a Sunday. Was a professional type venue, but no audience was there. Ray Columbus and the Invaders played after us. They had no audience either. But hey, it was easy money for Wellington’s struggling musicians!

    Reminds me of Rotorua Lakes Council who under-wrote 5 “Mudtopia” events including buying $90,000 of mud to be imported from Korea! Fortunately the public outcry was enough to see them aborting this “coals to Newcastle” boondoggle, but sadly not enough to cancel the first event, which cost ratepayers over $600k.
    
    The business case had 3 scenarios – pessimistic, realistic and optimistic. The worst of these forecast more than $1.3m in revenue and a loss of $575k.
    
    Actual revenue was a tick over $900k (about 2/3 of their “pessimistic” forecast) and losses were just over $600k, about $30k worse than their worst forecast. Event was cancelled after 1 year, mercifully for the Vegas ratepayers.

      My fix for the situation is that if CONsultants are going to offer advice on tax or ratepayer funded events, they be required to underwrite any shortfall in funds below their projections.
      I think the quality of advice would improve dramatically.

This is another reason you can’t trust David Seymour, just like I believe 16.7% shouldn’t give Maori the right to have a equal share in Co Governance I don’t believe Act and David Seymour should be demanding the policies they want to pass in Government should have strings attached like David Seymour has indicated, a Coalition is a not a equal share its about what’s good for New Zealand not David Seymour and Act or Chris Luxon and National.
If Act get more votes or seats in the house they get the chance to lead the Coalition if not it is down to negotiating not blackmailing the partnership before it even becomes law and is not fair before the Election even starts. You watch the echo chamber of Act voters voice their support for David Seymour on this whilst calling Chris Luxon weak and other names to justify David Seymour rant

        Right Steve and it is starting to look a lot less cut and dried as the election draws closer. Luxon’s woke tendencies are starting to make some voters uneasy and suspect they may become more a part of being on track than is desirable to the majority.     There is a growing number of potential or even some loyal National voters looking harder at ACT as the better option to provide the course correction New Zealand needs. Polls have National stalled in the mid 30’s as a result of being too woke and failing to assure voters they will put a stake in the ground and end the Maorification pushed by Labour. Then the big announcement last week was totally spoiled when Willis took the podium and started in with a Tina Cocoa again making them sound like Labour Lite.
    It is possible that the ACT vote will far outdo the indications from the polls and they may yet have more to bargain with when it come to coalition talks. Their weakest link is in their 2IC who’s immaturity and limited experience coupled with needing to be reprogramed from Green think might cause some misteps.

      I really feel National have to stick in that middle ground at least pre election. They have the potential to frighten the nervous lefties types to the Greens or even back to Labour. Leave the right wingers to go to Act, National will try to gather up the middle. They can’t squabble over the same voters. After the election then right wing ideas can steer the ship away from the rocks.

      I would say that was as much due to Labour’s collapse as it was down to anything inspirational from National.

    Clan: Spot on. “Inspid” is a perfect word for both National in 2023 and their leader. They have a long history of changing fuck all when they get back in after six years of Labour, and Seymour quite rightly rejects that “do nothing substantive” approach.
    
    And no disrespect for Seymour – he has increased ACT’s vote share tenfold and that is greatly to his credit – but I believe a significant part of ACT’s new found level of support is because National is so firkin useless.

    Nats have ruled out the greens, Luxon has every right to say these policies are not ours, he can say anything he likes, but it changes when the election has been had, people say he is weak, giving Seymour the middle finger over policies suggests he is not weak, when they start negotiating, the Nats have certain things they can trade off, but Seymour with his smug arrogance will have to trade much of the crap he is spouting now.
    
    One policy I was stump with is the first test free, the Nats think that’s a waste, I was surprised they changed their mind, I think it’s a simple thing for them to say okay we will get rid of free fees, it’s an easy billion dollars, and will be able to fund the tax cuts if there is a short fall, there will be other policies they can easily wash their hands of, Seymour spouting his stupidity makes him look arrogant and petulant, no wonder he is losing support to NZF

    Luxon has not only said they are deeply committed to achieving 2030 and Net Zero 2050, but incredibly that the portfolio of Climate Change Minister will be brought into cabinet.

      I think National can work with the Greens, but the questions is, can the Greens work with National?
      
      From memory Bill English approached the Greens following the 2017 election and was rebuffed. If the Greens were just a little bit mature about looking at what areas they could work with another party on, Winston wouldn’t have had all the power. Marama “all violence is perpetrated by cis white males” Davidson is not likely to form a coalition with Chris Luxon. The only person in the Greens who might consider such an arrangement would be James Shaw, but as his favourability has waned within the Greens I don’t see any kind of agreement between National and the Greens.

    Bang on, but please don’t fall into the lazy mistake of calling sensible, sane, qualified New Zealanders who have pointed out thousands of times that experimental mRNA injections are not vaccinations “anti-vaxxers” quotes or otherwise.
    
    Even the WHO attempted to redefine the term “vaccination” to account for the fact that the jabs were not vaccines in any sense of the word.

    @Grunter I can’t see that happening ever, certainly not for several election cycles. Many National supporters understand in business you negotiate and work together to get as much of a win-win for everyone, and you work alongside those you don’t necessarily agree with. Labour however hate National with a passion. They would never cede any amount of power to what they consider is the enemy.

  It is Davids job to secure as much for his voters as he can. If he gets more of his policy through supply and confidence then why not?
  
  There has never been an equal share of policy based on the party percentage. The more the parties have equal votes the more they have equal compromises. The smaller the vote the more power they have in relation to that percentage. What happens at Labour having 43%, nats having 43% and ACT having 14%, That is going to be worth more than 14% to someone or we would be having another election.
  
  How do you even measure what is act policy or national when determining how much they should have based on their vote?ACTS policy on one thing may just be a very small change to the nats policy while another may be very different.
  
  Whatever you are suggesting, it wont take long before you see it working against you.

    How about allowing farmers to access higher yield lower carbon GE pasture, does that impoverish NZ?
    
    How does Luxons suggestion NZ includes carbon sequestration in our surrounding oceans on our c02 calculations.

  That doesn’t mean they can’t negotiate after the election and agree to support selected policies from each other, and agree to withdraw certain policies that the other strongly disagrees with.

    FWIW, as a long time, nailed-on ACT voter (as in, I was one of the 13k-ish people that gave them their vote in 2017) I have no problem at all with Luxon’s “not our policy” line.
    
    It’s true and it dodges the question whilst allowing swing voters who are scared of ACT to hear “we won’t don’t do that”. Luxon might be a manager, rather than a leader, but he’s not an idiot and sure as sh1t he understands sales and marketing.
    
    DS has attracted a bunch of former National voters be being clear and principled about what he wants to achieve so he has to sound firm on those things and if it makes him sound a bit Winstonish, that’s because he’s stolen a chunk of voters from that direction he doesn’t want to lose (and neither would sensible Nat voters want him to lose).
    
    I’d bet a considerable sum that behind the scenes, negotiations are already underway because the last thing either party wants is a week’s worth of buggering about before the new government is announced.

Winston will get in because the main parties will not address what they did the last three years. Easy to take his oxygen away and stop him getting re-elected.   ACTs leader is currently on a path to damage his party. He has done well because many want to see a shift in the government to the right. If Seymour plays silly games then he will lose votes back to National where they came from. His arrogance is likely to be his downfall. I suspect some of the five candidates who have deserted him know this. Voters could well follow the example of those candidates. In 2026 Seymore could be gone and what’s left of his party could be looking for a cup of tea with the PM.

    His Winston type posturing has been around a long time, which is what has mainly put me off ACT.v2022/23. However, this little GD snippet intrigued me yesterday, particularly the poster’s use of italics for …. “Seymour’s” ……

    Almost as many vote Green as ACT . Should they have. A say too. ACT will get some consessions but not enough of what they want because that would likely see Labour back in power in 2026.

  Seems pretty principled approach to me.
  
  Let’s say ACT end up with a third of the numbers in a National / ACT government – they probably won’t (unfortunately) but for simplicity lets say it’s 1/3 ACT and 2/3 National. Putting aside the election posturing from both Luxon and Seymour, the basic principle in post-election horse trading is that each party will win on some things and lose on others. If it was 2/3 National to 1/3 ACT, then you’d roughly expect the overall policy direction of the new government to reflect that. Unless ACT end up with some big concessions so that the combined National / ACT policy includes around a third of ACT’s manifesto, then Seymour would be dead right to sit on the cross benches.
  
  I suspect this is part of the theatre of the election period. Post election, a deal should be relatively easy to put together. However, this may be the first time that National have ever had to make some real, deep, concussions on policy – it will be interesting to see how they manage this. Personally, I suspect this is the sole reason Luxon is tempting fate by keeping Winston in play – he’ll be hoping Winston can be used to neuter Seymour but he forgets just how treacherous Winston can be.

      Every politician does it – Luxon is doing it when he campaigns and focuses on National policy, or when he refuses to rule out Winston. Seymour is doing it when he threatens the cross benches. Winston always does it. Hipkins did it when he ruled out Winston. It’s all just theatre – the real talks will take place behind closed doors once the numbers are in.   Act and National have a small number of policies they are close on, and a larger number of policies they are farther apart on.
  
  If Luxon were to say “no” to all of the latter, and act went “oh, ok then” then that would be a failure for all the act supporters. They would get nothing.
  
  The confidence only route means national has to negotiate policy by policy.
  
  If you see national getting legislation passed by getting green or Labour proxies, then you know national really is Labour-lite.
  
  If national gets policy with act, it’s likely to be more transformational.
  
  Ideal? What is ideal in politics?

  I took the bother to read this (and uptick it) even though it was ‘hidden’. In my opinion David Seymour is getting excessively cocky to the point of damaging the centre right vote. Up to now I would say that those feeling more comfortable with ACT could vote ACT but I would now strongly advise anyone voting ACT. ACT by its behaviour may well snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in October. Assuming that National / ACT gets the majority in October, the next challenge is winning the 2026 election. If ACT forces National too far to the right in the next three years (assuming they have the majority), it could scare sufficient voters that the 2026 election would be a foregone conclusion.

  I addressed this in a post last week, but I’ll say it again. I’m sure Luxon is aware that he must negotiate a full coalition with Act otherwise National will forever be running government off the back foot. A minority national government will be so weak it will get almost nothing done and will be a one term government. I’m pretty sure Luxon’s aware of this and will be prepared to give some ground to ACT. He’ll sell it to their voters as “the cost of forming a strong government”, which is exactly what it is.

Threats from ACT about what they might do after the election are completely hollow at this stage. They can only be taken as tub-thumping for the benefit of ACT supporters. I cannot understand why Seymour is making threats at this stage, doing so is counterproductive and could lose the centre right.a sliver of support which could be essential for victory or give Winston a foot in the door.
    Agreed after the election there would be intensive negotiations in the proverbial smoke filled room if National and ACT are potentially in a position to form a government. There will be rats to be swallowed on both sides. While Chris may not be a skilled ‘platform’ politician he will be a tough negotiator.

I’ve had a bad sinus infection for a week, now the authorities are admitting what was always true, phenylephrine doesn’t work, and there’s been no effective remedy since pseudoephedrine was banned over a decade ago.
It’s just great that there’s no more P in New Zealand due to the government banning cold remedies.
Right now any party rolling back that ban would be well on the way to getting my vote.

  I’m currently watching ‘Painkiller’ on Netflix. I knew a bit of the back story re Oxycontin but if this show is remotely accurate, it is truly disturbing.

  Maybe there is more to the story that I don’t understand. But why they would ban pseudoephedrine while permitting this drug into the country with the issues behind it widely known.

  Pseudoephedrine was not ‘banned’ – although that is effectively what occurred
  
  It was changed to a Class C (now B2 I believe) drug, which meant it required a GP prescription – effectively blocking OTC sales
  
  Accordingly, with a substantial drop off in sales, companies simply stopped importing the meds (Sudafed being a classic example)
  
  I always collect a supply of Pseudoephedrine tablets when overseas – just back from Bali and brought in my Sudafed / Panadol Cold/Flu allowable 60 tablets for Personal Use for each traveller
  
  No problems when declaring and bags not even checked
  
  I have had a Prescription from my GP, in the past, for Pharmaceutical Pseudoephedrine, which required collection from the Hospital Pharmacy as no one else would stock it
  Not the Customer facing Phamracy but the one down in the bowels of the hospital, with no natural light
  They even phoned the Med Centre to check the Rx Script pad hadn’t been stolen
  Got the drugs though

  Not exactly sure what that does. What I do know is it will cost me about NZ$1.68 for US$1. That is why we are not in Hawaii and Alaska right now. The Denali Star and other tourist trains stopped after Sept 16 and don’t start until May 2024.
  There is a once weekly flagstop train but it is no fun.

All NZ banks now signed up to the UN initiated Net Zero Bank Alliance. This one has gone under the radar as usual (useless MSM !)

What it means for NZ farmers is that they either reduce their methane emissions (raise less cows and sheep) or they ultimately face de-funding by our woke banks.

That means we are in the process of de-funding our 2 largest export earners.

The dangers of this move are of course much broader. Banks implementing a woke social credit scoring system that determines which businesses they fund. All directed from the unelected mobs at the UN.

This dick-move was of course all a conspiracy theory – until is wasn’t! Now it is in place and no one has battered an eye.

    The money supply is the life blood of any economy. It should be heavily controlled. Banks are only responsible for efficient management of this core function, yes, they make a profit in the process.
    But they are not and never ever should be the arbiters of what people do with their money.
    
    The above video which I posted showing Larry Fink of Blackrock loudly declaring they will force behavioural changes is the clarion call. Banks need to be reined in and heavily regulated. But as I stated, it may be too late. It appears as though the money control the governments, not the other way around.

    Agreed Clan. For many individuals working in the system it is simply not worth it – they know that even if they do the right thing, nothing will happen to the guilty individual and they themselves will probably be out of a job at some point.
    
    Many years ago I raised an instance of corruption in a government department – I wasn’t working there, just dealing with this individual – the experience was horrific. I was put under the spotlight and left in no doubt how much easier everything would be if I just let it go – with a grovelling apology to the perpetrator no less. It was only due to the actions of a particularly dedicated internal fraud investigator (South African as it turns out with a strong sense of right and wrong) that the perpetrator was eventually forced to resign. Nothing else happened – no further investigations, no criminal charges, just a nice coat of white wash – move along, nothing to see – the investigator and I reckoned the individual had easily pocketed around a half million (that was what he’d uncovered by the time he was told to end his investigation) – but hey, other people money so not a big deal eh!
    
    Oh……and in a totally unrelated turn of events (ha!), the internal investigator just happened to be restructured out of his role……completely unrelated of course. My company lost a contract with the department (despite being lowest priced and best marked) and I was encouraged to look elsewhere for career growth opportunities.
    
    Moral of the story? Let sleeping dogs lie it would seem.
    
    That’s why anyone in the know in this country laughs at the annual ‘NZ is the least corrupt country’ reports from transparency international. Well yes, if your official strategy to fraud is the three monkeys approach, then you definitely won’t find any.

    As much as I despise Tame (and I truly do despise the little lefty turd), he was doing his job and holding Luxon’s feet to the fire. Now I know – Tame never does it with the left (just once I’d like to see him do that to any left wing leader), but still – Luxon is not great at ad-libbing and has been diligently sticking to the script and prepared lines in his media interviews of late. While that works in short formats and he’s been sounding polished lately, it was always going to be a bit of a disaster in the longer format interview like this morning with Tame.
    
    Shouldn’t hurt National though – other than the political tragic, very few voters will have watched this.
    
    I actually thought Luxon did ok against Tame – not a win by end stretch, but a few month’s back he would have looked a total fool. Whatever media training the Nat’s have put around Luxon seems to be working – he’s never going to be a natural when going off-script, and he still has that annoying need for the interviewer to like hime, but he has really improved in the last few months.

      What?? What about his interview with the prime minister last Sunday, immediately before his interview with Nicola Willis?
      
      In my view, Jack Tame has been on fire all year – this morning was Q+A No. 28. He is the equal of Mike Hosking – they both must spend many, many, hours each week preparing for their interviews (on a wide range of topics) – both of whom are streets ahead of the execrable HdPA.
      
      Tame forces his subjects to “answer the question”. In his interview with Willis last Sunday – a disaster for her – he finally got her to admit (after three, four, attempts?), re. the foreign house buyers’ tax, that the average price of houses that would be subject to the tax, was $2.9M. Had he not pushed her, we would never have known that. At the time, I thought, why on earth was she trying to hide that? And then she said, any problems with the Chinese would be handled “diplomatically”. Yeah right. That’ll be fun to watch – not.
      
      Both she, and Chris Luxon this morning, said they would not release the figures behind this policy. As Jack asked both of them, what are they hiding? It’s sad to say, but I now suspect that if there is a change of government, Luxon will start to bitterly disappoint us very early on. They have both now revealed themselves, individually, to be “just another politician.”
      
      I agree that Luxon is now more “polished”, but, whereas prior to last Sunday, I thought it was “all over”, right now, I’m not so sure. With David Seymour now starting “to crack” under pressure and also starting to get a bit “too big for his britches”, by talking about “confidence only” agreements, who knows, it really could go down to the wire.

I admire her position because getting any gender into the workplace is a challenge, let alone females. According to the New European, Ms. Antelava, a former BBC journalist herself, is said to have rebuked Ms. Spring after checking out the claim.

Ms. Spring is said to have sent an email apologising for her “awful misjudgment [sic]”.

She is said to have written: “I’ve only bumped into Sarah whilst she’s working and chatted to her at various points, but nothing more. Everything else on my CV is entirely true.”

The young journalist added that she was a “brilliant reporter” and in their emails also admitted there was “no excuse”.

She said her only explanation was her “desperation to report out in Moscow” and thinking it would “wouldn’t be a big deal”, which she admitted was “naïve and stupid”.

In the email exchange published by the New European, Ms. Antelava told her: “Telling me you are a brilliant reporter who exercises integrity and honesty when you have literally demonstrated the opposite was a terrible idea.”

  I think we’ll find the PREFU will possibly be relatively benign on first glance and that is all Robertson cares about – he’ll have managed to inject some bullshit savings that will never ever happen to make it look better – it’ll be enough to pass muster in the first day or two when the MSM cares about it – a nice whitewash.
  
  After a day or two, once some decent analysis is done on it (including the usuals on KB like Benedict and PaulL etc), the true horror story will no doubt emerge – however, the MSM won’t care about it by then. There won’t be weeks of analysis over this (like the obsessing over the Nat’s tax plans) – the MSM are bought and paid for and will rapidly repeat the line that all is ok, move along, move along.

COVID booster warning from Florida surgeon general, who advises people not to get new vaccine

While speaking at a Thursday news conference for Gov. Ron DeSantis in Jacksonville, Florida, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, that state’s surgeon general, advised people to steer clear of the updated booster vaccine for COVID-19.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet approved the new vaccine — which is reportedly designed to protect against the BA.2.86 omicron subvariant.

“There’s a new vaccine that’s coming around the corner, a new mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, and there’s essentially no evidence for it,” Ladapo said during the news conference, according to local news outlets.

“There’s been no clinical trial done in human beings showing that it benefits people” he said.

“There’s been no clinical trial showing that it is a safe product for people — and not only that, but then there are a lot of red flags.”

The current candidates would struggle with a country that was in good shape. They are, all, out of their depth with this one.

The changes required are harsh and politically suicidal and for those reasons they won’t happen.

Hamish Walker, the southern National MP, an early Covid political casualty, axed by Todd Muller, seems to be a thriving real estate agent in Queenstown. He’s been popping up in media reports of soaring prices in the tourist centre.

Walker followed another controversial, young, and first-term National MP in the Clutha-Southland electorate, and was in Parliament from 2017 to 2020.

In retrospect, Walker’s action at the time seems naive.

The sequence began with Walker telling news media that up to 11,000 people from “India, Pakistan and Korea” could be heading to Dunedin, Invercargill, and Queenstown for Covid quarantine. Labour’s Housing Minister, Megan Woods attacked: “I think it’s disgraceful and reprehensible. It’s scaremongering and frankly it’s racist.”

Stuff reported it had spoken to Walker’s source, a South Island medical professional, who confirmed Southern officials had been told to expect 11,000 people to go through isolation there, although they would not all be undergoing isolation at the same time.

Walker then blundered. He send the NZ Herald a list containing names, dates of birth and isolation facilities of then 18 active current Covid-19 cases, to use as evidence he was right in saying cases were coming from India, Pakistan and Korea. Doubtless he was being badgered to substantiate his statement.

It was reported that former National Party president Michelle Boag gave the patients’ details to Walker. After this she “recused herself” from any active role in the part, as the Herald put it in reporting that Walker would be standing down as a candidate for the approaching general election.

Walker’s stand-down was the only option, Muller said. “He has worked very hard for his community over the last three years, and ultimately it was an error of judgement, a serious error of judgement that has cost him his career.”

As time passes, the penalty imposed on Walker for infringing privacy seems even heavier. Compare any damage from the names Walker passed on with the economic carnage inflicted on the country by the Covid shut-down and the billions of dollars “printed” through bond issues, ensuring inflation.

Health is one hell of a mess, it’s going to take a lot to turn it around to achieve this

The National Party has announced a plan to bring back targets for wait times and cancer treatment and provide financial incentives for GP clinics to lift immunisation rates.

National leader Christopher Luxon is making the announcement alongside health spokesman Shane Reti at Health New Lynn Medical Centre in Auckland.

“Every single health outcome has gone backwards over the past six years,” Luxon said.

“National will bring back health targets because they save lives.”

The five major targets are:

* Shorter stays in emergency departments. 95% of patients to be admitted, discharged or transferred from an emergency department within six hours.

* Faster cancer treatment. 85% of patients to receive cancer management within 31 days of the decision to treat.

* Improved immunisation. 95% of two-year-olds to get their full age-appropriate immunisations.

* Shorter wait times for first specialist assessment.

* Shorter wait times for surgery.

  Only downside is that it is impossible to escape fuel excise, and heavy footed drivers or big engines paid more.

  If I was Luxon I would have said that it’s now the responsibility of the unruly to house themselves. They’ve had their chance and spat on the goodwill and assistance of New Zealanders and now they’re on their own. No longer will New Zealanders be held to ransom by people who repeatedly betray their communities and no longer will the NZ taxpayer subsidise this atrocious behaviour. And others thinking they can get away with this behaviour, look out. Our patience has ended.
  
  And if asked “Well what about their kids?” I would say that is they can no longer house their own kids then we’ll take the kids off them. The kids will be better off.
  
  Massive vote winner as well as the right and moral thing to do.

  He should have had an answer ready, it’s an obvious question.
  For example; if they’ve been removed for crimal conduct they will go to a secure facility, otherwise they may have to move in with whanau or associates.

  He should have said that they won’t be kicked out unless they are unruly. Behave, and it’s not an issue. That puts it on them.
  
  Instead, he obviously accepted the framing that it would be National’s fault if they were kicked out.

  What a contrast.
  
  On one hand a blowhard like Waititi.
  
  On the other hand, an intelligent, accomplished health profession like Reti, who recently spent nights seeing operations at the “coalface” of hospital emergency departments.

  Why not? Plenty of Opera is in German and Italian, after all. Many Samoans are fine singers – like the other Pacific Islander countries, choral singing is competitive and highly valued.

    Opera libretto is ideal in the original language, often Italian or German.
    
    Polynesian languages are light in consonants, but fine in vowels. Depending on the quality of the translation, they might closely fit the music of, say, Italian libretto.
    
    The investment in translation is probably wasted, though, given successful singers will end up abroad working in other languages.
    
    Once you have the gist of the opera, and perhaps a rough summary on the audience guide, the language isn’t usually an issue.

Killing one and injuring numerous others.
But within a few minutes Sky had deleted the tweet.

Well, his photo has now been released by the police.
As the comments indicate…. no one is really surprised 🙁

Wow: this would be a major blow for councils who depend on $$$ for their consent approvals: I hope Seymour will pay for the increased rates as a result.
But still, a great idea to remove another level of control from local councils.

  The consent process is pretty shit.
  
  Just watching a piece about new cbd residents complaining about the noise from music venues.
  
  Everyone is focusing on either
  1) the music venues being allowed to host loud music events or
  2) residents knowing they should expect noise at all hours
  
  No one is looking at council for approving buildings with inadequate noise suppression design (triple glazing, wall linings etc)

Triggered: Woke Alabama School Suspends 6-Year-Old Over ‘Finger Guns’ During Cops And Robbers Game

According to the letter, on Sept. 1, 2023, two boys were playing “cops and robbers” during recess at Bagley Elementary School.

“During the course of their play, the children reportedly extended their index fingers and thumbs and said ‘bang-bang’ at each other,” the letter reads.

The child, identified as J.B., was suspended and accused of committing a Class III infraction. This is the district’s most serious infraction. According to the Jefferson County School District’s Student Parent Handbook, Class III infractions include possession of guns or explosives, sexual battery, battery of a school district employee, and robbery, among others.

The boy would only be allowed back in school after a hearing with his parents and the district. -Epoch Times

My partner couldn’t help but notice…. that compared to the Natz groupies, just how overweight and unattractive the women were that surrounded Chippy during HIS walkabouts.

  Could someone please tell Mr Peters that there was a migration out of Africa 50,000 years ago. And that those who settled an area first and maintained a cultural presence there, are the ones seen as indigenous.   Because if he tries this argument on the UN, to withdraw us from UNDRIP, our education system is going to be called into question internationally.

        The indigenous tribes of Taiwan arrived from somewhere…. presumably descended from neolithic coastal folk of mainland China.
