        Shaw got a Masters in the UK which requires a BA or a pretty good reason for dispensation. His entire career is based on this.
        Wishart is trying to find out how he got accepted for his Masters when he clearly wasn’t qualified.
        Shaw is blocking his requests.
        
        Shaw’s former boss at PWC (who now works for a Transparency non-profit) has come out and said Shaw needs to be honest about his qualifications.
        
        That’s it unfortunately.

        The main outstanding question is – Did he claim he had a degree to get a job at PWC, when he had no such degree? He had dropped out of university. The requirements for the job were an Honours Degree at a minimum. Having had a bit to do with such firms, the chances of such a firm employing a university drop out – NIL.
        
        Of course we will never know unless PWC releases its records, if they still exist. If James Shaw remains silent, it is simply speculation by a journalist. In that case the story will die away.

“Financial crisis’ at Wellington City Council, apparently, but ratepayers are not allowed to know details. Yet, anyway, as more time is needed for the PR team to work their magic. Meanwhile spending plans continue apace.

As part of the council’s Zero Waste Strategy* options to be considered all include food scraps being diverted from landfill. Yes, all, but not to worry the Council has applied for taxpayer funding for up to half the processing facility with the rest paid by guess who. There will of course be a business case, maybe even a spreadsheet, right?

Also sounds like panic in the Council. Considering reducing commercial rates and increasing rates on vacant land, called landbanking because that sounds like rich pricks. Idea is to encourage “housing or something the city really needs” according to Councillor Rebecca Matthews. More housing might work. Well located vacant land might attract those very rich overseas investors for their high end bolt holes. Of course don’t get much for $2mill these days. Not so desirable land – perfick for high density social housing. Neighbours – get planning for your next move to take advantage of a big bump in value. Or not, depending on the new owner.

I reckon the massive Captains’s Call by Hipkins to flip flop on Labour’s flagship release the prisoners on the New Zealand public and initiate an unprecedented crime emergency was done yesterday deliberately , knowing their accomplices in te media pa ahti could give them cover under the guise of debate coverage .

It is not in today’s print version of the Herald .That’s a shocking emission.And has to be deliberate.

The Herald does have a very unflatering account of Seymour on home ground in Remmers.Surprie surprise.Last night on the self described tv1 “news” there was a thing on some climate conference but again it was couched in terms of a political attck on Act using Simon Court as the skeptic .

Our msm deserve to fail , bigly.

They have actively declined their ,what they’d claim to be an almost sacred, duty to hold power to account , they are trying desperately to keep power where they want it.

  Yep, Labour are gone, they will be low 20%’s (maybe less).
  
  And the Nats have effectively ‘cut their lunch’ by match-racing them on most policies apart from crime. Meanwhile, the radical Greens & Maori Parties have stolen Labour’s left-wing policies (Welfare Tax, CGT, etc.). So post-election the hard left of Labour will flee to the Greens & Labour.
  
  Meanwhile, ACT will continue to take more of the traditional right/centre-right. Which possibly places them as the new opposition to centre-left National in the 2026 election.
  
  So the good news is Labour are now the walking dead. But we need a much bigger shift towards less tax/less govt more entrepernurship/innovation/productivity if we are to thrive as a country. The Nats won’t make that shift.

    Just because it was not discussed on TV1 or in $Stuffed, does not mean it has been ignored by the media. Do you really expect the “bought & paid for media” to be discussing it. Afterall, it was Labour’s flagship Justice policy for the past 6 years.

Let’s hope the Public are not as stupid as the media make out with their outright favoritism of Chris Hipkins with everything he does.
How can a person give his credentials as the best person to lead New Zealand when all he has done on a dailly basis is bribe New Zealander’s with policy we can’t afford or has them taking effect just before the next Election in 2026.
The media call Chris Luxon dishonest but really how many times has Chris Hipkins been called out for untruthful statements concerning National at this Election , there is only one person that has been forced to correct sleaze against National and that is the current Prime Minister, so again the media are wrong .
In my opinion the debate last night was a win for National Leader Chris Luxon as many wrote him off before the debate had started but it is Chris Hipkins that lost because of the 14 point difference in the polls and he needed to pull something out of the h
at or make a dent in the polls but all he could muster was the same old story of look at how good Labour have been in the last 6 years.
Chris Hipkins is like a schoolboy with his tell tales and blame of others for his own stupidity.

More from New Zealands best investigative journalist Thomas Cramer.

The other bail house raided by police last year was the notorious facility at Karaka St, Auckland run by sisters Elaine and Karen Ngamu from Ahikaa Trust. Elaine has close family connections with the Tribesmen gang and been described as one of NZ’s biggest fraudsters having over 230 dishonesty offences going back to the 1970s, including large scale mailbox scams. Courts routinely bail defendants to these bail house facilities which are effectively run as gang pads. Last year police seized meth, cash and guns from the Karaka St property.

Clearly bail houses should be run by providers of secure facilities and not gang affiliates.

  DPM needs to contract a new host and/or web developers to resolve the issue. There is clearly either a lack of resources at the hosting end or a problem with the software. Based on previous comments by the mods I would suspect there are one of more poorly optomisd SQL statements related to recent changes (probably the new inline editing tool).

    Looks like the site doesn’t use any kind of WAF provider like Cloudflare or Imperva. The DNS just resolves an A record. The WAF providers give a level of DDOS and other protection but you have to pay for it. Cloudflare have a free offering, which doesn’t do much but it does have the benefit of hiding the real web server ip address(es)

      A reverse IP search indicates no other sites on that IP, so suggest that the delay is the result of brute force attacks. Our servers regularly get “touched up” with a concerted effort, using a rotating range of source ip addresses, making traditional tools ineffective.
      
      They do this for up to three days then move on.
      
      To sort this type of effort out you need the paid service from Cloudflare or other such services. And KB is still just a “personal blog” and even with ads, I doubt it would be affordable.

  Not reoffending over what time period? A week? A month? Six months?
  
  This is a typically misleading statement on rates of reoffending. Without a time period during which there has been no reoffending, such a stat is utterly meaningless – as those who release them well know.
  
  St. Kim Workman used to do this all the time: announce with great fanfare that X or Y initiative had resulted in a Z% reduction in reoffending rates – without ever including a time period.

    I notice it most when I see them extolling the virtues of spending initiatives – with Shane Jones becoming a master at it – where they will claim ‘XYZ will create 300 jobs!’ When in fact 275 of them will only be for the 3-6 months to needed build something and only 25 being permanent roles.
    
    When you break it down it fits all the definitions of an outright lie – misleading statements knowingly made.

According to both leaders last night there is a “climate emergency”. Asked what they do differently as a result of facing an emergency they both admitted virtually nothing. By any definition an “emergency” demands immediate action, significant response, particularly from a leader. It is plain hypocrisy and virtue signalling.

The little “action” they both said they have taken was to change the food buying /diets. All that does is inflict damage on our farmers who are the least of the problem – the only group with falling emissions. That’s not leadership. It’s weakness.

  To meet their international obligations the government has to lower theoretical emissions, they aren’t going to achieve that in transport or energy, so that leaves agriculture as the scapegoat. Science (Genuine science) doesn’t come into it.
  It’s similar to the Reserve Bank deciding banks need to have higher asset ratios and banks lifting rural lending margins to cover the extra cost, as they don’t want to lose market share in residential.

  Tomtoddy, as much as I dislike Ktie Hopkins for her extreme views one of the Magg(y)(ies) (I think) posted a link to a KH video where she ranted on about how within 5 years the british government were effectively going to ban all personal vehicles and non essential travel. I didn’t think much about it at the time, but hearing that the government in NZ will crank petrol taxes and road user charges up significantly over the next couple of years got me thinking. There will come a point where the average punter wont be able to afford to own an ICE car. From an EV perspective many people can’t afford one today and that won’t really improve. There are not enough EV chargers in the country and this is a deterrent to some people who travel longer distances. I suspect that there is a wider plan within government to reduce car usage and in parallel reduce the spend on roading projects, fewer cars less congestion fewer roads.

  There is a ‘We were always here’ revisionist lie being peddled in the UK about black Britons, from the earliest times.
  
  It requires pretending for instance that black or any dark skin is the same as the sub-saharan people; when in truth skin colour can’t be told from ancient remains, but DNA can.
  Ancient Britons DNA shows they were NOT sub-saharan Africans, to state the patently obvious.
  
  In later periods it requires confusing the use of the wood ‘Moor’, which in an earlier form goes back to Roman times, to mean ‘Black’ (sub-saharan again) when originally it meant a North African to the Romans, and later times, meant a Muslim (and not specifically a race).
  Moorish burials in Britian do not show these people to be simply ‘black’; actually the opposite genetically.
  
  And then a factual & documented black trumpeter of Henry VIII is made much of, when he was simply a symbol for the king, like having a giraffe in the royal zoo, as proof or worldly power. His role in history? he blew a trumpet….
  
  It is really intellectually disingenuous and literaly insulting to the original inhabitants of the British Isles. And not healthy for any of the black people who trace back to the late 20th century or more recently.

Watched a bit of the debate last night. Couldn’t help but think that Key would have made mincemeat of Hipkins. Eg: Talking about ram raiding and Hipkins blathering how boot camps don’t work. Luxon should have responded that boot camps shouldn’t even be necessary given their occurrence was few and far between before Labour took power but now, after six years of ruinous Government, they happen nearly every day. Literally just paint Hipkins into a corner full of shit. And Hipkins bragging about raising salaries in Health. Yep Chippo, salaries have gone through the roof. And outcomes have dropped through the floor.

    Unfortunately we do not know and will not know, unless and until National and Act win the election and form an effective coalition, whether they actually do know, and have the guts to do, what needs to be done to get New Zealand back on track.
    
    That is because they can’t say it at this stage. They will not win if they actually set out ahead of the election, the honest and unvarnished truth as to just what a difficult and long slog getting back on track is going to be.
    
    Voters have been conditioned to believe, and vote for, politicians who tell them that everything can be made lovely without effort, or at worst at the expense only of other people. They claim they want honesty from politicians, but they don’t vote for it. It’s not Luxon’s fault that he is in a position where he can either win by cunning and dissemblage or lose by honesty and integrity.

      I agree. Luxon has to go Left to get voters, and then drag them Right. Labour and this media have dragged to majority of this country to the Left, and they will have to be dragged back. Luxon cannot do that outside government. He has to get in with ACT as a strong partner, and then he can operate from a position of strength.
      If National does not make the right noises on climate change, the media will tear it to shreds. They want a guy to be hung, drawn, and quartered for making a comment about fluoride 10 years ago. Silent T gets to say on live TV that Luxon is talking to the ‘far right’ because of his comments on crime. It’s the same on co-governance; say the wrong thing & they will scream ‘racist’ as per Simon Wilson and Seymour (a Maori btw).
      If National goes to where ACT is, the Right won’t win. It has to be a ‘broad church’ approach to get all the votes needed. Both National and ACT have to posture themselves correctly at the moment for this to work, both party’s have their own role to play.
      The ‘have some balls’ brigade want an NZ version of Trump, but what works in the US won’t work here. The bulk of the population is too far to the Left. And that is not Luxon’s fault. If he says the wrong thing now he will be crucified and Labour / Te Pati Maori / Greens and the media will simply continue to destroy this country. I was assured I was wrong and that Key was a Capitalist, just pretending to advocate socialism in the guise of free market capitalism in order to win the election.

        You’re kidding yourself. Look at Luxon’s voting record. Look at the makeup of the Nats – their front is composed entirely of liberals, with the exception of Shane Reti. Recall that the Young Nats want a more “treaty-focused” party. And recall what Key did (and didn’t do) in office. The Nats are not the party we need to save this country, because of their lack of interest in fighting the culture war. Of course I will vote for my local Nats candidate this election – I know the lesser of two evils when I see it. But our lack of an organized conservative movement is a serious threat to our future as a nation. Australia in contrast does have a serious conservative movement, and that’s one reason why they’re doing better than us.

Last night’s panel at the conclusion of the political debate illustrated the continuing contempt that TVNZ has for the viewing public.
The moderator, Mr Tame, smirked and giggled at the bizarre antics of Tau Henare.
The reporter, Ms Sherman, tried hard to control her bias and provide some balance – but came across as uncomfortable at having to say something positive about the National Party leader.
The Labour Party guy was never going to be anything other than a Tribal Labour Party guy.
Come on TVNZ, do better.
This is not a time for joking and play acting.

      It was Cushla Norman.
      
      Christopher Luxon was asked a question about immigration settings, and he commented that since 2016 we are no longer replacing ourselves (this means fertility rate has fallen below the 2.1 replacement rate) and joked to the audience that they should have more babies.
      
      It was not a policy, not a direction, not a speech. It was a quip in response to a question on immigration.
      
      And a TVNZ reporter implicitly compares it to Lebensborn while questioning Nicola Willis. Lebensborn was a Nazi eugenics programme aimed at increasing the number of racially pure Aryan babies. It also involved mass kidnapping of children. This is what a reporter for the state broadcaster think is a legitimate comparison.

    I certainly watch close to zero TVNZ. I actively avoid their news shows, documentries and current affairs stuff. I dont go to their web sites.
    
    I didn’t watch the debate, even though I’m a political junkie. Why would I when the questions, mediation and analysis would all be provided by TVNZ. TVNZ proved me right by putting Tame (Green), Cunlif (tribal Labour), Sherman (TPM) and Tau (Nationals verion of Willie jackson) as the analysis.

  There were some serious public broadcasting bad decisions last night on TV!.
  
  Firstly, why was there a studio audience? The only thing they did was to applaud on cue at the beginning and the end. They took NO part in the production or the debate. So, pointless them being there.
  
  Secondly the moderator was largely incompetent. Virtually no skills in actual interviewing or moderating.
  
  Thirdly the analysis at the conclusion was even more ridiculous. TV One obviously believe that their audience needs to be told after immediately watching something, what they need to think about the debate. It was pointless and stupid and the decision to use Henare (who was either drunk, drugged or stupid or all three) and Cunliffe was an incredibly poor editorial and production decision.
  
  Lastly, the question needs to be asked of people like that juvenile Tame whether he is entitled to use his position to espouse his obvious personal bias.
  
  The whole thing was a cluster fuck and if I was the boss of TV1 I would have the whole production team in my office by 8am demanding answers, but maybe TV1 and Red Radio have abandoned what decades ago used to be high values.

    Tau -> Because the other 3 were obviously left wing they needed someone from the right. They didn’t want someone people would take seriously or who might provide a challange.
    
    Tame -> Just terrible. A hard lefty who cant leave his opinions asside when interviewing.
    
    I think TVNZ (and RNZ) live in there own bubble. They all have the same views so assume that these are normal. However that doesn’t excuse them from having a recent Labour party leader in as an analysist.

I see some leftie msm and political commentators are having trouble admitting Hipkins didn’t win last night’s debate (i.e. didn’t win over new voters), ditto they seem to have trouble admitting that Luxon generally gave positive polished answers (i.e. likely won over new voters) … so declare “no one really won it”. Good grief!

So, I’ve decided my number one issue for the election is education. Because the current system doesn’t help the poor kids in Cannons Creek achieve social mobility. Having read the various policies of the main parties, here goes:

Greens – F, spend more money and focus less on education but social issues. (As an aside, no one wants to talk about their fiscal hole – they seem to be able to spend the funds raised in a wealth tax on everything.)
NZ First – F+, nothing apart from ending gender ideology in schools. Agree with this, but nothing about improving student outcomes.
TPM – D, talks about improving Maori education through not for profit community groups and creating Maori authorities to ensure Te Ao Maori is properly taught. Would be an F if it wasn’t for the innovation they propose for Maori education.
Labour – D, mostly about paying teachers more and removing costs to teacher training. Seems to be written by the Teacher Unions.
National – C, some tinkering and ensuring some focus on core subjects, but overall the same model that has failed for the last 50 years.
ACT – B, wants to shake up schooling by allowing competition to the state sector through charter schools and having parents control funding for their children. Nice innovation, but doesn’t really have explicit features for social mobility to occur.

Overall, a disappointment. Especially ACT, it seems like Sir Roger Douglas’ criticisms are actually correct – a party that creates policy that favours the incumbent rich rather than aims to eliminate poverty through encouraging excellence.

  Myanmar refugee kids in state houses in Cannons Creek can and will become doctors, lawyers, and engineers. What happens at home is orders of magnitude more important than what school they go to.

I was surprised to see that Chris Luxon managed to garner so much talk time. Admittedly I only watched until 8:15pm, but I didn’t register he was dominating the talk.

My main observation was that Luxon spoke clearly with a measured pace, which meant he could always get his point across (unless closed down by an interruption). Hipkins, in contrast, seemed to speak quickly and filled up his sentences with so many words….. I soon tuned out.

The rest of the word analysis is trivial.

  He kept calm, smiled and managed his time.
  He didn’t get too ruffled, or disguised it if he was ruffled.
  I don’t agree with all National’s policies, but at least he noted NZ’s reliance on primary production and need for export income.
  Let’s see if he does anything substantive to support it and dials back some of the extremist anti-farming and rural measures so beloved by the socialists.

  I dont care if Hunter goes down (he wont) or not for gun charges. I want to know, did hunter take money from China, Russia and Ukraine and funnel some of it to Joe though shell companies. We know Hunter got the money, we know he got it becuase of his connections not his skills, we know there are >21 shell companies and we know that Hunter claims to have given ‘half my pay to dad’. If foreign entities were sending money to Joe what were they getting in exchange? Regardless of your politics people should be interested in that, if a president is taking bribes (or a quid pro qou) that is a serious issue.

    I am no Hunter/Joe fan, but I expect the “‘half my pay to dad’” is just the sort of thing you say when you’re complaining to someone (as he was).
    
    Example: When I was a father of young kids I spend half my time cleaning up after my kids. Except of course that’s bollocks. I probably spent ten minutes a day cleaning up after kids. If that.
    
    Likely the number is far lower. Maybe more in line with the “10% for the big guy”.
    
    But 10% or 50% is not really the point. The number should be zero. Even 1% is unacceptable.

Great couple of photos in HB Today showing visibility on SH5 with the recent winds.
Article stated that, “clouds of dust are visible from kilometres away and even standing in the valley with a mask and eyewear quickly became extremely uncomfortable.
Local resident Steve Wheeler said, “In 1939 winds blew off the silt deposits and reduced the ground level by more than a metre in unsown areas.”

I remember when

HB Today advise that two raised crossings are being installed in Waipawa at the present time, as well as work on their water pipe system.
Apparently a bypass is in place.

There are two questions:-
Are there better options than ‘raised’ crossings?
And, what percentage of those crossing the highway will use the crossings to do so?

How long will the necessary works take –
Council Website states five weeks.
Residents say they were told six weeks.
Signage at roadworks show an end date of 30 October – seven weeks.

Photo accompanying the article shows traffic queue at south end, stretching past the end of the bridge, said to be taken on the 7 September, which suggests seven and a half weeks.

She was saying at least two of the residents mentioned that they thought Chippie looked quite sort of ….’reptilian’.

    One of the many interesting things here is that the public works guys seem to manage doing quite major works – such as installing new power poles or tansformers – with about three cones, and one spare guy directing traffic around the two working.
    
    To be fair though, speeds here are much less – but then the roads are also much narrower.

      Farm is having its hedges pruned on the main road, another farm yesterday. A few years ago he would drive down the side of the road cutting them, that was it. Now the lane next to him is closed, cones for 2 miles, stop go people at both ends.
      
      A month ago they fixed a pot hole going on to the bridge, the road was closed all day and a detour put in. The detour wasn’t even well placed, it took 20 minutes longer. If they had put the detour at the road just before the bridge it would have been a 3 minute detour.

  Even alleges that David affected a business because the writer saw someone walk in, and then out, when David was talking with the staff.
  Jeez, have they never lined up at a check out or waited to get a staff member to assist them?
  
  Reads as a mean spirited beat up or an otherwise low-key affair.
  i.e. unless someone got a running kick in the head from gang members in plain view, or shop fronts were boarded up and beggars on the footpath, then somehow David is lying about crime and the economy.
  If the Herald wants to see that, go to Coromanel or the Auckland CBD respectively.
  
  At least, unlike Jacinda, there wasn’t someone yelling “F–K YOU!!” at David when he enters a public space, or someone having a real go, like Chippy not long ago.

“Green Hills Software produces the Integrity 178B Operating System that powers the F-35, F-22, F-16, and B-2. It also powers the Airbus A380. It was also quite possibly leaked”

This is pure rubbish by someone who does not understand software security.

Leaking secure software does not change whether it is secure or not, except maybe by revealing some exploits.

Indded, the opposite applies: the more scrutiny the code has, the less likely there are to be security bugs.

What really compromises software systems is leaking security keys. These are nothing to do with the OS.

Most high security stuff out there is running on the Linux OS. Here is the source code. Anyone can download it: https://www.kernel.org/. Don’t worry, it is perfectly legal to do so and having it open does not compromise security.

Almost certainly what went wrong was the higher level avoinics software. This has little to do with the underlying OS.

Why do I say that? The Greenhills OS is stable and does not change much and has very rigorous test suites that check for errors when people change things. It is also reasonably small.

The vast bulk of the software on a beast like the F35 is higher level avionics software written by Lockheed Martin and their subcontractors. This is changing relatively often and cannot easily be tested like OS software can.

Therefore my standard bet of a servo pie and 50 cents says this has nothing to do with the Greenhills OS.

    The Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta’s presence in New York today at the United Nations General Assembly is a contempt of New Zealand’s “caretaker government” convention.
    
    Despite the long-standing caretaker convention, Minister Mahuta is today at the UN to sign a highly contentious “Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement”, delivering a national statement on behalf of New Zealand at the UN, and then undertaking bilateral meetings with world leaders and counterparts.
    
    Parliament has risen and New Zealand is less than two weeks from when early voting begins on October 2nd. The caretaker convention has always been that these matters the Foreign Minister is engaged in, should be left to the next government to deal with.
    
    Minister Mahuta claims to be doing this on behalf of “Aotearoa New Zealand”, which to begin with is not our country’s name. What she omitted to explain was why she is signing this agreement now, this close to an election, when this agreement is open for signature in New York for the next two years.
    
    There has been no public announcement or discussion of the Minister’s intention to sign the agreement. In short, the Minister is signaling before the next government is even elected, an intention to ratify.
    
    Labour is putting globalists in charge of the high seas, and from here the NGOs will take over the secretariat and expand the remit of this document, to ensure that all activity on the high seas will require UN approval – such as shipping, fishing, and deep-sea mining.
    
    Labour has no mandate to push forward with this covert agenda, with just weeks out from the election.
    
    As an aside, why is a Minister who has failed so often to travel to secure diplomatic agreement in our own neighbourhood of the “Blue Pacific Continent”, now travelling all the way to New York, and then Washington, when those offshore dealing with her have a certainty that there is little likelihood of Labour being in the next government.
    
    This is circa 2010 all over again when Minister Pita Sharples, without any public notice, travelled to the UN in the dead of night and signed UNDRIP (United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) – after the previous Foreign Minister and Government had already declined to sign the declaration in 2007.
    
    This is another example of Labour’s “Pandoras Box” principle – Labour is doing everything they can before the election in the hopes that “once it’s done it cannot be undone”.
    
    This level of contempt shown for the people of New Zealand and our long-standing democratic convention, is an astonishing development that cannot, and will not, go unchecked.

UNDRIP is the worst thing New Zealand has ever been signed up to. Winston excoriates Key for allowing it to happen but it seems like every nation was under immense pressure to sign up to, and indeed all our Western friends and partners in the post-colonial (post British Empire) world have done so. Regardless of that, it should never have happened. It is an external element which is extremely corrosive to our democracy. It puts so-called ‘indigenous people’ above and separate from every other citizen. UNDRIP dictates that indigenous people must have separate systems and self determination. This is nothing less that the creation of a separate state within a state. The UN has spoken, the UN has externally dictated the internal future of this country. That is unacceptable. It is not in the best interests of this country to be divided by race. We must be one citizenry, all working together to solve our problems. This is ‘divide and conquer’ in practice. The UN is not bearing any of the costs of implementing UNDRIP, maori won’t bear the costs of implementing UNDRIP, the New Zealand taxpayer will have to bear all of the monumental monetary and societal costs.

If there was ever a thing to have a mass protest about, it is the unconstitutional and undemocratic UNDRIP, a mechanism that allows external forces to destroy out country.

“Quad bikes”: there is no such thing. By definition a bicycle (bike) has 2 wheels and a quadricycle (quad) has 4.
“Long story short”: the correct saying is “to cut a long story short….”.
“Proof of the pudding”: the correct saying is “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”.
Those who cannot pronounce “distribute / distributed / distributing”, “contribute / contributed / contributing ” .
Worst of all, those who cannot say “women”.

  Certainly since my teens, in the 60s, I have always pronounced the plural of ‘woman’ as ‘whimmen’, yet, I still hear educated, professional people on radio and TV, including women, pronouncing the plural of ‘woman’, as ‘woman’. It’s infuriating!

  I teach English to migrants, Greybeard, and one of the hardest tasks is helping them to make some sense of New Zild accent and speech habits. I wonder whether Kiwis are among the worst speakers of their own tongue in the world. We speak too quickly, don’t open our mouth, swallow words, collapse words into each other or leave them out entirely, and use a range of slang not known elsewhere. So your complaint, while it has some validity, is small beer among the myriad of other traits, sadly.
  
  Just this week I asked my Korean students whether Koreans mangle their words in similar fashion. They said they are generally much more precise in pronunciation. I happen to speak a little Chinese, and while I find the tones and speed at which they tend to talk hard to follow, their diction usually appears to be fairly precise.
  
  Incidentally, my pet pronunciation hate is “jewlerry”, instead of jewelry. And in this case, it’s not just Kiwis. I hear it constantly on the TV programme Antiques Roadshow. If the best of Brits can’t get it right!!!!

The group are also fluent in pidgin, unsurprisingly.

Whoops, another hipkins ~~fact~~ lie

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has admitted a claim he made in last night’s debate was incorrect when he said fizzy drinks were banned in primary schools.

During the debate, Hipkins made the claim as he revealed Labour’s intention to apply the ban in secondary schools, saying evidence for its extension was in the existing ban.

Today, while standing at Wairoa Airport, Hipkins fessed up, saying that he had misunderstood the result of work done by the Ministry of Education on whether fizzy drinks should be banned in primary schools.

For all the two leaders waffled on about the usual tired old topics in last night’s Battle of the Bland I’m picking the real issues weren’t even touched on.
That is how will the Nats/ACT government handle the natural disasters that are heading our way.
While something can be done about youthful criminals; droughts/flooding & pandemics are a different story.
Today it was 28° in Timaru with an earthquake not a million miles away!

The National / ACT right bloc dropped by 1 seat to 61 according to the latest One News poll. 12% of people are still undecided apparently. Hopefully these are people still deciding between National and ACT. Hopefully we can get the Leftists out and don’t have to deal with the nightmare of a Labour / Green / Te Pati government.

  You’ll find a lot of these undecided are people opposed to all of the covid policies Particularly those people financially, physically or psychologically damaged by those policies.
  They are watching and waiting to see which party will best represent them in Parliament.

  Loyal NZ and Freedom NZ now both registering 1%. The New Conservative Party were polling at 1% on 13 September, so they are probably still within cooee of that number. Every vote is needed to defeat the far Leftists. Hopefully ‘covid’ people can see the big picture here, which is the need to ensure Labour / Green / Te Pati Maori can’t get anywhere near government.
