  My view is that, if the hyenas in the media are going to attack Luxon even though he and his party are generally so milquetoast and orthodox in their approach and policies, National may as well stop the bizarre, self-defeating and self-limiting approach of staying withing limits set by people who hate them, and instead go full fascist (as these same media shills would inevitably characterise it). Why not? They are already arrayed against anything that isn’t 100% to their liking, so what will change if National dropped any pretense of trying to keep the media on side?   What’s National and ACT going to do about that? Three suggestions:
  – shut down or privatise TVNZ and RNZ so Labour can never get their mitts on it again. They’re not worth much now in our streaming age so probably better to shut them down and save the money – or even create a tiny tax cut for the lowest income folk, just to rub the journo’s faces in it.
  
  – Cut all government advertising to all MSM. It’s part of what’s keeping the private sector ones alive.
  
  – Let them die. No bailouts.

    100%. Exhibit A – the 105 number. My step-daughter witnessed a non-life threatening instance a few days ago (just outside a police station by the way!) and called the 105 number. After 15 minutes she gave up.
    
    End result – no reporting, therefore no crime took place.
    
    Same thing will be happening with the ram-raid stat’s. They will be redefined in some clever PR/gibberish way – like ‘ram raids are down by 50% and this is absolutely not connected to the 50% rise in the improper use of a non-owned vehicle resulting in unfortunate breakages of glazed shopfront offences’.

    You are 100% correct. Some months ago (6?) The police changed the definition of a ram raid. About 40% of ram raids were reclassified as another sort of crime. Labour know this is why there has been a sharp drop. The media know it too.

Of 156 bullet-pointed paragraphs, one on “3 Waters” could be summarised as. –

• The amendment bill allows for public submissions (Community Priority Statements) but with limited consideration, while it imposes a stronger obligation on Water Services Entities to respond to Te Mana o te Wai Statements, which grants more influence to local Maori. This has not beien prominently disclosed by the Labour government, and it primarily affects operational-level decision-making, as opposed to the 50% co-governance at the Regional Representative Groups level.

As far as I can see, the Water Services Entities Amendment Bill, section 145AB, “Who is eligible person”, allows Maori to make Community Priority Statements, as well as non-Maori.
But Mana o te Wai Statements [1] are available to Maori only – and what exactly are these undefined statements for?

This is perhaps the question which Luxon should’ve asked in the leaders ‘s debate when they mentioned co-management versus co-governance.

In fact Luxon should have asked Why is one ethnic minority given priority over all other ethnic groups?
Actually he should be asking that quite often

  A question, Yvette: does the Mana o te Wai Statement clause distinguish between mana whenua (local iwi, who in Labour’s eyes would have some kind of vested interest in local water); and manuhiri Maoris (from iwis outside the local water catchment area); and if not, why not?
  
  Manuhiri Maoris, it would seem to me, would have less at stake than a pakeha family who have lived locally for generations.
  
  And BTW, what constitutes mana whenua when so many Māoris have many iwis in their genealogy?

Our name Taumata Arowai was gifted to us by Hon Nanaia Mahuta, the previous Minister of Local Government.

Arowai speaks to the attention to be in the presence of wai .It conveys our focus on wai as a taonga, and our focus to put wai mauri, wai mana and wai ora at the centre of everything we do. \

The establishment of Taumata Arowai is one of three pou, pillars, of the Government’s Water Services Reform Programme (the other pou are regulatory and service delivery reform).

The establishment of an independent water regulator was also born out of historical incidents like that of Havelock North and others. As a consequence we have the enactment of Taumata Arowai – the Water Services Regulator Act 2020 and the need for regulatory oversight to lift the performance of the system that delivers for the Water Services Reform Programme .

15 November 2021 – Taumata Arowai became the water services regulator for Aotearoa [New Zealand].

  Perhaps it should focus on the causes and prevention of water borne pathogens. Like every other water quality regulator in the OECD. Of course New Zealand water regulators did exactly that for a century. If there was an outbreak of water borne disease it meant that something went wrong. It did not mean that everything needed to be upended and spirituality embraced as the basis of water regulation.

      It should be to monitor water quality and deviations from it, and ensure that management of the water assets is in line with (at least) good practice. It should ensure that unless the entity is on top of all maintenance and capex works, that every last dollar charged by councils for water services is spent on water services (unlike the example of wellington today where they divert most of the money to sexier projects, just as the Dunedin City Council did with its electricity assets.)
      
      This is a role that should be added to the existing regulation of electricity, gas and telco businesses by the ComCom. The approach to regulating various types of network businesses is broadly the same around the world, water is not special, and the expertise does not need to be duplicated.

  I haven’t seen any analysis of where the crypto has come from. There is always the possibility that a fan of Three Waters deliberately introduced it into the water supply as a reason to vote Left.
  
  If you think that seems paranoid, recall the instances of northern hemisphere wild fires apparently being started by climate fanatics.

    I smell a rat – maybe a rat in the water supply, but definitely there is something bloody wrong here.
    Why has this problem only manifested itself now, if the supposedly-guilty infrastructure has been in place for so long ?

I see Winston is reverting back to his old true self and lambasting anyone/everyone that does not put him on a pedestal or indeed ask the questions he wants to be asked.
I’m no fan of the mainstream media, but not a good idea to piss them off 4 weeks from election…..but I do agree than ANY coverage is better than NO coverage.
Ohhh I hope he gets 4.9 in the final count, but the old bugger will, in my opinion, get around 7%.

  I have a horrible feeling you might be right about the likely 7% – it would seem that far too many people have very short memories.
  
  I’ve even heard a variation on the dreaded ‘keep national honest’ routine, although not as frequently as in 2017.
  
  I dread the 3 to 4 week circus that will eventuate if he gets in a position to hold the balance of power – as both Labour and National prostrate themselves before him trying to curry favour.
  
  While I hear a few folks saying they are reasonably sure he’d go with National this time, I remember the same confidence in 2017 and look how that turned out. Winston will extract a heavy price for power – and while his need for revenge against National may have been satisfied, he will still want a hell of a lot for his backing – it will be a heavy price to pay to secure his backing and I’m afraid that Labour will be willing to pay any price to retain power. You don’t need to be a genius to see how this will end up.
  
  I personally hope he fall’s short and is finally consigned to the history bin. I fear I may be disappointed and he ends up holding the fate of the country in his hands again.

      It depends on whether he stands by his bottom lines eg around vax mandates, co governance etc. none of those will stand up in a Labo/tpm/green arrangement. He will find it harder to sell to voters than last time round given he has specifically sold himself on 3 or 4 policies. I don’t think he had done that last time.

      Perhaps not all things covid. Specifically I was dismayed to be told that the vaccine was 95 percent effective, only to analyse the data and to discover it was not very effective at all. In turn, that 95 percent number was used to justify excluding the unvaccinated from society.
      
      So if I figure if the pharmaceutical companies and the government plain lie about the effectiveness, what else do they lie about?
      
      I looked at the data daily for 12 months so I think I am qualified in my conclusions.

        BY – I think you understand my point though? There is nothing wrong with someone changing position on something when presented with new and relevant information.
        
        The breakthrough for me re the nonsensical 95% effective claim was someone explaining to me the difference between Absolute Risk Reduction and Relative Risk Reduction.
        
        One shouldn’t be used without the other to give people full information. The ARR for the covid jab was 0.84%. That number was never mentioned because it didn’t help sell the narrative.
        
        So many lies and distortions used that have done so much damage to peoples’ trust in institutions. Now they want to pretend nothing happened.

      Changing one’s mind when faced with new information is one thing. But that is not the same as when a politician campaigns for your votes claiming the items that they will champion in parliament, but when they get in power you find that they don’t stand for those things. Instead they have let all those things go for the position of Deputy PM and $1b PGF.
      
      Clan – I too am disappointed by all the elected parties position on Covid. Labour were the perpetrators but apart from Bridges and Collins at times, minor actions by Hipango, there were no dissenting voices. No opposition. This was largely due to the mass compliance of kiwis, too many bloody sheep, and the ability of the legacy media to exploit that.
      
      So the choices for me are:
      
      1. Vote Nats/ACT – make sure we get rid of labour/greens ruiners of the economy and sowers of division.
      2. Protest vote on Covid – options are Democracy NZ and Loyal. Essentially your vote will be allocated on the basis of the overall, but there is visibility of the dissatisfaction.
      3. Winston first vote – what will be truely important to him on the other side of the vote? – based on his previous two goes it won’t be what he campaigned on. I’ve given Winston first my vote once, never again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

        It truly is bizarre behaviour and has me totally perplexed. I reckon I could draught a paragraph in ten minutes that could negate Peters instantly if it was presented properly, and I’m a bloody broken down, semi retired tradie!!
        
        I think it is really quite simple. The respective parties have turned to their focus groups and advisors and are being told the subject is a net negative in the polls. It’s all I can think of, but it is very concerning.

The release of ACT’s Alternative Budget has, as expected, gone under the radar of most Kiwis. But it should be a wake up call to how dire the country’s financial situation is. Arguably ACT is the most ‘radical’ and fiscally tight of all parties, so this is as good as it can get.!!! Bill English would probably have resigned if he printed ACT’s numbers… They are horrible.

Go read the details on their website if you want, but below is a quick summary:
Core Crown Debt:
Under Labour…..
2019 it was $58 B
2023/24 $163B

ACT
2023/24: $160B
2024/25: $171b
2025/26: $177b
2026/27: $185 b

Of course Labours plans will see the debt go well over $200b, probably close to $250b.

All this debt (ACT) will cost in excess of $10 b pa in interest costs, likely to go higher as global bonds continue to push higher and global risk increases. Think about that. $10b in sunk costs. That isnt paying off the debt it is just the interest.

ACT will run deficits most years and will spend up large on defence and prisons. And of course there are some small changes to income tax that take about $5b pa out of revenue.

So, my point is this. The country is now in a serious financial position. Even our most “right wing” party can not make the numbers work. Growing debt to around $200b means it will never be paid back. Lifting tax and retirement age would get you voted out of office. Cutting core govt services would get you voted out of office. There is no mathematical solution that is politically acceptable to the majority of Kiwis.

A measley surplus of say $2b pa means it takes 100 yrs to pay back the debt. Until the next crisis hits and we all go into lockdown and spend another $100 billion!!!

So, tell your kids and grandkids that Ardern and Robertson have stuffed the country for good. And that their lifetime taxes will fund our last 6 yrs of complete nuttiness.

  There is a serious issue here – I think we may have reached the tipping point that there is no longer a least bad option to get out of this financial mess. Very soon, even under National I fear, we are going to get to a point where interest payments are almost half of our health budget.
  
  You know how bad things are when even ACT realise the savage cuts required to solve the issue would mean they are unelectable.
  
  The problem is that eventually, the piper will need to be paid – and at that point, we will not have the choice.
  
  While I doubt we are looking at a Venezuela or Zimbabwe route, although not unfeasible if the Greens and Maori party have a real say, we’re probably going to end up more like the technocratic governments of Italy or Greece where the leaders are elected but the real power is held by unelected and appointed technical experts / bureaucrats, foisted on them by the likes of the EU and IMF etc.

  I have said this before but it is worth repeating.
  
  There are folk who are convinced that changing co2 emissions in Dunedin will change the climate of Dunedin (or Wellington or Auckland). It is of course insane.
  
  At a National scale I have heard James Shaw cite the recent cyclone in justifying further action to reduce New Zealand emissions. That is similarly insane.
  
  Local government has no business in adopting these climate change policies. I don’t know the marginal abatement costs of emissions in New Zealand. And these clowns won’t know either. Maybe it is in New Zealand’s interests for Otago emissions to increase over the next 30 years.
  
  Without wishing to be hyperbolic, these “net zero”, folk like Associate Prof of environmental health Alex MacMillan trigger in me memories of “Year Zero” in Cambodia in 1975.

    I chatted with the local Green candidate after a Meet the Candidate meeting in Patea last night. She had been banging on about all the adverse weather events lately.
    
    I reminded her of a Saturday night in January last year when we listened to a series of explosions. It was the underwater volcano in Tonga erupting, and sending millions of Olympic-size swimming pools worth of water into the atmosphere. Then I asked her if she thought that might have contributed to all the floods on the eastern seaboard of Australia and the north and east of New Zealand this year.
    
    “No” was the answer, to which I replied that a lot of top scientists don’t share her view.

    The uni is in dire straits but has built a massive property portfolio and numerous buildings , the health authority( i refuse to use the racist , divisive and unintelligible newspeak names they command us ) has demolished whole city blocks and the steel frames of the new hospital rise from deep driven foundation piles as we speak and the council itself has dug up the city centre streets ( killing businesses already reeling from covid scam) and is building a new largely car free , pedestrian “friendly” main street .
    
    Not one of those major projects by these big 3 players could remotely be anywhere near “net zero” in a hundred years , given the amount of demolishing , digging, foundation pouring and/or steel structural frames involved , all powered no doubt by huge quantities of diesel etc

Do I get the impression that after the election that Ardern will return, as she says that she was not burnt out after all.
Labour feminists will still vote for her as current polls indicate.
She still has to do a semester at Harvard although I expect she may not be will no longer be treated as a prima donna.
She says all this about herself in some New York radio programme.
As she says this from the safety of somewhere outside New Zealand as it obvious that nobody overseas will employ her as she is a liability – we know that.
I expect she will soon join the Helen Clark Foundation and make an irrelevant use of herself still in the belief that she is popular.

Very little analysis of the Labour Government’s performance over the last 3 years and very little analysis of Labour’s policies. The media strategy now appears to be chip away at the credibility of a National/ACT/NZ First Government. No analysis of what a Labour/Green/TPM Government would look like.

    A perverse incentive to promote a product that is an abject failure, of zero benefit, and a threat to 99.9% of people who are injected with it.
    
    It MAY have some very short term benefit for those at most risk of covid infection, but it is being shown increasingly that the more shots you get, the more chance of catching covid. Also it is damaging the innate immune systems of people.
    
    This is the likely reason for the increases in turbo cancers, heart attacks, ‘long covid’ and all of the other conditions inflicting the population.
    Also the concerning crash in numbers of live births and dramatic increase in reported disabilities.

Last night Newsroom asked English and he not only denied it, he slammed it.

In a text, English said: “Deny. It’s a ridiculous claim.” Pressed for more, he said: “Mr Peters’ claim is a fabrication.”

The former National leader went a step further, suggesting Peters’ claim now “indicates he could find a reason to go with Labour again after this election”.’

    Regardless of how desperate Luxon is to become Prime Minister, he will never be able to match what Labour will offer. They will offer him everything below Prime Minister – they will even get Hipkin’s to commit sepuku if that is what is required (I personally think this is a potential outcome to get around Hipkin’s wealth tax veto with the Greens and Maori).
    
    It’s very simple. Unless Winston has finally found some principles (pardon me while I pause to laugh), he will always go with the highest bidder.Despite wanting to be Prime Minister, there will be a price Luxon simply cannot pay. Ergo, Labour will always be able to offer him more.
    
    This is not rocket science. It is fairly easy to work out. But here we are with Winston being on the verge of playing 2017 all over again.

Canadian Court Orders Jordan Peterson to Take Re-education Program

In January of this year, best-selling author Jordan Peterson was told by Canada’s College of Psychologists of Ontario to undergo re-education therapy for his very public statements, not on professional psychology and science, but politics and culture. The Canadian College of Psychologists holds Peterson says things they don’t care for and feel they have the duty to fix his beliefs. Peterson took his case to court because the College’s order threatens his professional licensure.

The Ontario Divisional Court dismissed Dr. Peterson’s claim in late August and upheld the College of Psychologists’ demand. The Court’s ruling admits its concern is “language used by Dr. Peterson in public statements” made in 2022. The nature of these statements?

The Court explains Peterson’s words were “degrading, demeaning and unprofessional.” So the author and wildly popular commentator must undergo, at his own expense, a “coaching program” directed by the Canadian College of Psychologists so that he might “reflect on, and ameliorate (his) professionalism in public statements.”

Peterson responded to the ruling by saying, “Bring it on” in a social media post, telling his fellow citizens, “If you think you have a right to free speech in Canada, you’re delusional.”

Wellington Central is a fascinating electorate. A recent snapshot poll on Newshub showed that the 18,868 majority for Grant Robertson 2020 has changed -Omer was on only 30%. Sheeran was on 28% and Paul was on 26%. and ACT (who are not standing a candidate and presumably will vote for Sheran ) was on 3%. That was two weeks ago and Sheeran is daily winning over ex Labour voters. The minor parties EV votes are crucial. They know their candidate cannot win . The only candidate for change with a chance of winning is Sheeran. They can give their minor party a crucial PV. But why waste their EV vote on a definite loser. Give Labour an absolute bloody nose. Use their EV cleverly and vote for Sheeran

  Three weeks from now may be pushing it if Hubby’s recovery from his triple bypass 8 weeks ago is anything to go by, although he did manage a 2.5km walk on the flat by the end of Week 3.
  
  Week 3 was probably the week that Hubby was least happy…as he experienced discomfort around his knee area in the leg that had had the vein removed for the bypass grafts.
  
  Apart from the fact that Hubby’s not mowing the lawns now, he’s pretty much back to the condition he was in before he developed angina symptoms.

These threads are starting to degenerate into a place where Luxon is constantly mocked & insulted, along with Seymour, and Peters is praised to the skies.

A current Labour attack line is that Luxon won’t be able to form a government because Seymour and Peters can’t work together. Peters is pouring honeyed words into the ears of a group of disaffected people, and they do his bidding by going around spreading his propaganda.

We are lurching towards the unfortunate situation of Peters holding all the cards, yet again. Labour may pick up votes now if they succeed in painting the Right as a fractious rabble. Hopefully we don’t miss the opportunity to get rid of Labour. It will only take one more term in government for them to complete the destruction of New Zealand, via co-governance, & wealth taxes which trigger capital flight.

In recent weeks, completely apolitical organisations such as the American Cancer Society have published fairly incontrovertible data which show that newly diagnosed as well as recurring cancers are up by 12% as a conservative estimate, compared to the pre-vaccine years.

But the narrative is fixed, so no one is asking “why”.

My NZ ex-profession’s profound gutlessness on this issue (excess deaths and the likely causes thereof) is truly awful.

Given coronavirus infections have been around ‘forever’ and are implicated in respiratory illnesses all the way from the (very) common cold, through to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).     What we do know is that a much higher incidence of Covid vaccination in Germany correlates with a higher incidence of cancer; compared to Sweden, and India, where the incidence of cancer has been lower than for comparable more-vaccinated populations.

Party votes are crucial in determining the government but the EV vote allows you power if you live in an electorate that is close. If the Labour candidate scores 33% and the Greens score 28% (a massive 61% for the Left and yet National scores 36% then the National candidate wins the seat. Its old fashioned FPP . Scott Sheeran of National has 31% already and could easily get 36%. Help him if you can

A 24-minute TV portrait made 50 years ago of Rupert Murdoch is worth a look.

Murdoch, at 92, has just stepped down as chief of his media empire.

Here’s a sample, from 6.00 minutes into the 24-minute video (linked to below). Asked why so many executives of a TV outfit he’d bought had resigned, Murdoch says: “Because I asked them to.”

Not a man to meddle with, and he especially hated bearded meddlers.

INL, which became Stuff, was a small and remote part of the Murdoch interests for about 30 years until the late 1990s.

Dozens of police in London’s specialist firearms unit are refusing to carry guns after one of them was charged with murder over the death of a black musician, Chris Kaba.

Officers of a London specialist firearms unit have told bosses they won’t carry guns. This follow the court appearance of an officer charged with mudering Kaba in September last year.

The Telegraph says Scotland Yard’s firearms command is in crisis after dozens of officers handed in their guns.

Reporting the shooting last year, the “Guardian” said Kaba’s car was chased by two police cars. After they blocked Kaba’s vehicle, “a specialist firearms officer reportedly fired a shot through the driver’s side of the windscreen.”

Kaba, who was found to be unarmed, was declared dead two hours later.
