What was even worse IMO was the groveling nature of the apology they issued: for “hurt and distress caused”. Everyone is “hurt and distressed” by fuck all these days – remember the letter by “the Listener Seven” rejecting so called “Maori science”? According to people like the pink haired obese former celebrity the letter caused “untold hurt and harm”

The lighting of the museum was entirely appropriate…and I feel I should at the same time record that I am by no means a blind supporter of everything Israel does. On this occasion however they were very clearly not the ones who started the violence. But I’m betting they will be the ones to finish it.

  Well said DG. Ive been told recently that, as we work for a number of public sector clients, having an opinion is a dangerous thing.
  
  Id never express anything in terms of a leaning left or right, no one elses business but mine – but if Im asked (and all credit to Ricky G for this) what a woman is, the answer is simple – its one of the old fashioned ones, with a womb and no (toned down) “gentlemens area”.
  
  As he also said, who would have thought 10 years ago that saying something like “a woman doesnt have a penis” would get you in so much trouble.
  
  I see the defeated PM has come out and confirmed, for the record, that his partner Tony/Toni is a woman. And how does he then define that? Will the media ask?

      Yup, same. I was asked to include two things in my email address – my pronouns and the Māori translation of my title within my organisation. They of course assumed that on account of me being part Māori, I wouldn’t object.
      
      I was reminded of those signs in pubs – “don’t ask for credit as refusal may offend”.
      
      I didn’t decline, I just didn’t bother. I leave that shit to the hand wringers.
      
      I have a friend who includes his pronouns on his email and business cards because he doesn’t give a shit – they are (and god I love this) (Bro/Mate).

    Our Head Office in Aussie has just been dumped into this issue. One of their staff has decided he’s going to transition.
    It came to their attention as a H&S issue when a woman felt unsafe with a man using the ladies loo. (This person still looks male and still has male parts)
    So they had to re-designate one of the loos as unisex.
    When this was announced at the board meeting, we all just looked sideways at each other. No other comments were made. But afterwards, it was interesting to hear the down-to-earth Aussies speak their minds off the record.
    Oh, and they’re going to have to write another section into their H&S manual to accommodate this topic.

      It’s two levels down, so I don’t use it often but always gives me a start to see a woman walking out as I walk in.

        Why one of the female bathrooms? Given that at any public performance, during a break, the queues for the female toilets are so much longer than those for the male toilets, I would have thought the obvious candidate for conversion to unisex would be one of the male toilets.

    Can’t find it but recently in the UK press there was an item about trans “women” and rape and delays bringing cases to court because in UK rape can only be committed by penetration by penis .
    
    But as offenders are telling the Cops they’re “women” the Cops send the files off to Crown Prosecution for approval.
    
    Fine , but the article went on to state that there have been cases of rape by so called trans women ( cocks in frocks) where in court the Crown prosecutor has actually said , “she raped the victim with her penis”.

      On an Israeli news site I read accounts from first responders. The most brutal ones were the families tied together and burned alive. A group of ten kids tied together and burned, their parents in another group tied up and burned. However the most distressing thing was the pregnant woman who had her child cut from her womb and stabbed, the mother executed- the first responder said it did bear thinking about what the sequence of events were. Maybe they’re making this up. But let me ask you this; why couldn’t it happen? A bunch of murderous terrorists who hate jews and want to destroy Isreal. Why wouldn’t they do these vile acts?

  I agree. But then again, you’ve got this stark double-standard that keeps rearing its head, to which a lot of commenters seem unaware. That is, aren’t the Jews themselves claiming “hurt and distress” caused by these recent protests against their polices in Israel, and more generally, by almost any criticism of them, no matter how valid, and then calling for apologies?

      When someone, whoever they are, claims that they are 100% in the right 100% of the time (or close to it), and is now and has always only ever been the victim of someone else’s posited pathologies, and nothing negative is ever attributable to themselves, this naturally invites deep scepticism. Of course, such claims can never survive serious analysis, which is why serious analysis is so frowned upon and discouraged.
      
      It’s disappointing that people who probably consider themselves to be free thinkers capable of critical thought act like Pavlov’s dogs whenever a topic like Israel/Palestine is mentioned, and even start calling for slaughtering civilians as “the other” with righteous fervour.         Perhaps a good way would be to get out of and stop colonising Palestine. The No. 1 reason the locals hate the Israelis is because they have ethnically cleansed the area to make way for the State of Israel. It’s pretty disingenuous to pretend that the antipathy towards the Jews from the Muslims is irrational. Religion feeds into it, but the Muslims didn’t head to Eastern Europe to kill Jews before the latter started moving into Palestine, which you’d expect if the motivation was purely religious. The Israelis cite religion because it distracts from the real cause, which is displacement of people from their land. The Israelis have really made their own bed here.

        Hamas does call for the death of all Jews worldwide, not just Israelis, and have done in their charter since the 1980s.
        
        And there is the matter of Muslim hostility to Jews and Christians everywhere they have had contact; was the Muslim treatment of the Armenians and various Southern Slavs justified too?
        
        And if not, then is there not a pattern that Muslim societies do indeed target other religious groups that come into contact with them regardless of the justification for doing so?
        
        FWIW, I actually don’t think our buildings should do this whole lighting up to show sympathy any cause, unless it directly and severely affects a large number of NZers. So you’re right there.

    “According to your new findings, how many cases of Israeli rape were there in 1948?

At the village of Abu Shusha, near Kibbutz Gezer [in the Ramle area] there were four female prisoners, one of whom was raped a number of times. And there were other cases. Usually more than one soldier was involved. Usually there were one or two Palestinian girls. In a large proportion of the cases the event ended with murder. Because neither the victims nor the rapists liked to report these events, we have to assume that the dozen cases of rape that were reported, which I found, are not the whole story. They are just the tip of the iceberg.
    
    According to your findings, how many acts of Israeli massacre were perpetrated in 1948?
    
    Twenty-four. In some cases four or five people were executed, in others the numbers were 70, 80, 100. There was also a great deal of arbitrary killing. Two old men are spotted walking in a field – they are shot. A woman is found in an abandoned village – she is shot. There are cases such as the village of Dawayima [in the Hebron region], in which a column entered the village with all guns blazing and killed anything that moved.
    
    The worst cases were Saliha (70-80 killed), Deir Yassin (100-110), Lod (250), Dawayima (hundreds) and perhaps Abu Shusha (70). There is no unequivocal proof of a large-scale massacre at Tantura, but war crimes were perpetrated there. At Jaffa there was a massacre about which nothing had been known until now. The same at Arab al Muwassi, in the north. About half of the acts of massacre were part of Operation Hiram [in the north, in October 1948]: at Safsaf, Saliha, Jish, Eilaboun, Arab al Muwasi, Deir al Asad, Majdal Krum, Sasa. In Operation Hiram there was a unusually high concentration of executions of people against a wall or next to a well in an orderly fashion.
    
    That can’t be chance. It’s a pattern. Apparently, various officers who took part in the operation understood that the expulsion order they received permitted them to do these deeds in order to encourage the population to take to the roads. The fact is that no one was punished for these acts of murder. Ben-Gurion silenced the matter. He covered up for the officers who did the massacres.

    I called a Jewish friend who was involved in raising money for the restoration of the Museum, and she was embarrassed to say that she and her friends had emailed the CEO David Reeves congratulating him on the blue and white lights, only to find later his grovelling apology. Needless to say she had no reply to her email.
    According to her the email address that they used (and I subsequently used) was just the standard info@aucklandmuseum.com. (Note .com, not .co.nz)

This whole affair is far from being black and white, and there are in fact many levels to it.

For instance, isn’t it strange that there are Holocaust museums dotted all across the Western world, with the obvious aim of making us all feel guilty and constantly enforcing and reinforcing a particular public perception of the Jewish people, despite none of us alive today having done anything to the Jews and none of the Jews alive having had anything done to them by us?

Nobody condones persecution or hateful attitudes towards groups of people, but it seems to me that this phenomenon is less about remembering how things were in the past than it is about justifying how things are in the present and how it is intended they shall be in the future. To me, it expresses a general antipathy towards European people and even a vengeful attitude against us.

You can see how there may be Holocaust museums in Israel, the Jewish state. But imagine the kind of attitude that leads to the establishment of these institutions all around the world, in places where the Jews weren’t persecuted by anyone and in fact where they were welcomed as refugees, that are designed to make the people in those places feel bad and to have sympathy for the Jewish people.

By contrast, are there any museums in Israel marking the many dark chapters in non-Jewish history? I stand to be corrected, but I can’t think of any.

    On the surface that is the appearance, but scratch that surface and you’ll see that they exist to convince White people how bad they are and, in comparison, how noble and victimised Jews are in comparison. The result is that White people have to lower themselves and dare not criticise the Jewish people, cos the Holocaust and all that.
    
    Are there any Holocaust museums in Rwanda, for instance, site of a massive genocide only 30 years ago? Surely the Rwandans need reminding of history more than people of NZ, Australia, the US and Canada do, right?

    I think you’ve cleared up your own perplexity. The modern world and the post WW2 global system needs the Holocaust to justify itself. It is anti-White, post-national and pro-mass immigration and diversity, all of which are presented as antidotes to what we are told is the constant spectre of anti-semitism.
    
    If Europeans have their own nations that have effective borders, and if they are proud of themselves as Europeans, then they will become Nazis (so the argument goes). Of course, it’s BS. By contrast, these things are presented as being moral necessities as they pertain the Israel.

The Beehive and Parliament Buildings should have shone immediately upon hearing what happened in Israel. The perception now is that the Auckland Museum has sided with Hamas and have given in to those who shout the loudest. Shame on those who turned off the lights. Last week I contacted the Auckland Museum, via Facebook Messenger asking “Hi – we did it for Ukraine but NZ doesn’t seem to care about what has happened in Israel. If you haven’t done it already how about Auckland Museum going blue and white for Israel. We need to something to show we care. Thanks. Cheers Lesley.” Same basic message to Sky Tower and Auckland Council. The reply from the Auckland Museum was “Kia ora Lesley, Thank you for your message regarding lighting Auckland Museum in response to the recent attacks on Israel. The Museum is shocked by these acts of terrorism and we condemn them. We receive many requests from worthy causes to light the Museum. We have a policy to only light the Museum in line with Council and Government activities, events and directives, as in the case with Ukraine. We have not received a formal request at this time. Ngā mihi.” Sky Tower said they would pass it on to their lighting team. Never heard back from Auckland Council. So pleased that the Auckland Museum lit up last weekend to remember those brutally murdered by evil Hamas terrorists, showing empathy towards our NZ Jewish community. Then the anti-Semitic lot came along and stopped the lights shining. They show such hatred towards Israel and the Jewish people. Did those protesters condemn Hamas? Who exactly were they?
At least the All Blacks did the right thing after a NZ born Israeli had just been confirmed killed by Hamas. The All Blacks specially acknowledged Adam Agmon as he loved our NZ All Blacks. Shameless capitulation by the Museum, especially when you think of the unqualified outpouring of support following the Christchurch terror attack – including from the Jewish community. Shame on the NZ Muslim ladies too for their non sympathy.

Genuinely perplexed at this decision by the museum. Why would expressing sympathy at the murders of innocents by terrorists cause offence? Is the offended group supporting these acts of terrorism?
Is the museum now saying they support the acts of terrorists and had this wrong? Will they remove holocaust displays?

Various NZ entities show solidarity with Countries or groups when terrible times are upon them, like the Auckland Harbour Bridge, Sky City tower etc.
Except when it comes to Israel because screeching savages who celebrated 911 and the London bombings etc who behave in vile and obnoxious manners, complain their feelings are hurt when Israel is involved and use lefty tricks of name calling and social media to get their way.

It would be interesting to see how many of the wokes decrying Auckland Museum standing with Israel, have “it is always OK to punch a nazi.” in their social media history. I’m guessing the overlap is quite high….

  Killing civilians is not the problem per se.
  
  Civilians killed in the pursuit of a military target are collateral damage. That is part of war. Shit happens whether that is the Blitz, bombing cities in Germany, Hamas strongholds in Gaza or attacking military bases in Israel.
  
  But what is NOT ok is deliberately attacking civilians for no reasonable military gain.
  
  The Hamas operations in Israel can be split into two parts:
  * The military part.
  * The terrorism part.
  
  I’ve spoken to, and listened to, some ex-Israeli soldiers and they have praise for Hamas’ military attacks. This praise is professional soldier-to-soldier recognition of a well planned and well executed mission. They might not like the outcome, but they acknowledge a job well done.
  
  But the terrorism is quite another thing. There is no military advantage in shooting up families in their homes or shooting up music festivals.
