The Chch Press reports that a lack of leadership and accountability is putting billions of dollars worth of public assets at risk, according to a leaked report into the Christchurch City Council’s asset management.

The public assets include underground pipes, roads, parks and playgrounds, as well as facilities such as libraries, pools and community centres. Organisational restructures and staff turnovers have made the problems worse.

Issues include maintenance of assets is years behind. When it comes to three waters, the council has 90% confidence in the quantity of assets. It only only has 50% confidence in the condition and performance of its assets.

Also, the council CEO and Chief Financial Officer both left the council within the last 10 days creating an even bigger vacuum at management levels within the CCC.

The new Minister of Local Government Simeon Brown will probably be in for some unwanted surprises when reading briefing papers and being updated by officials in the next week or so about the state of local government across NZ.

    Assuming men and women are equally competent and capable of getting such roles the chances of all being women is only 6%. But in reality women are less likely to peruse high-effort /high achievement/ long working hours career paths due to personal preferences and interests in more social and child focused lifestyles. So chances of this are even lower than 6%. Unless there is selection bias in play of which senior roles are being looked at.

We’ve got a Gold Card birthday lunch today so I’m not going to spoil the mood by reading Tova O’Brien’s latest dismal offering but the headline was unavoidable. They’re all at it, forecasting doom and discord before the Cabinet has even been sworn in. I suppose that’s what journalism is these days but I’m not going to support it or encourage them. On the other hand The Times is mostly what you’d expect, good quality reporting. Only mostly. So far the new Government looks pretty good.

It’s hilarious watching the MainStreamMedia’s triggered reaction to the new 3-party government! “Those who voted for change are going to get it good and hard” 😂

No, it was due to the MSM’s attempt to fracture the Right vote by promoting Winston-1st. The left-wing media got exactly what they promoted…..oops! Their hubris made them forget the old adage: be careful what you wish for. Every bit of “regressive, far right, destructive” legislation with Winston’s fingerprints on it will be thanks to Tova, Jessica, Luke, Jenna et al – thanks girls! You can be proud of your success!

  From despair to hope, thats how I felt yesterday. I voted NZ1 for the first time ever this election, never thought I would but he was the only one talking about the things I felt were important, yes I’m a freedom voter. I had to take the chance on Peter’s. There were many here bagging him but he did what he said he said he would do, love him or not that’s all you can ask for. Congrats to all three leaders for putting their differences aside for the betterment of New Zealand. As the saying goes, the people always get the government they deserve, maybe the people have got this one right, time will tell.

Interesting times in Ireland. The usual chavs are looting sportswear and alcohol, but they’re just opportunists. The underlying issue is too much immigration – 1m are foreign born out of a population of 5m (sound familiar?) – and this in a country where immigration was rare until 20-odd years ago. And before the racists get on their high horses, a noticeable percentage of immigrants are Ukrainian.

The relevant question is, what is a reasonable level of immigration? Putting aside the foreign doctors vs foreign social housing occupiers, at what point does a host country find its culture overwhelmed? In NZ’s case, immigration is concentrated in Auckland. Some here advocate for a population of 10m. Do we really want Auckland to have a population of 5m? Will the sort of city that would emerge really be what people coming to NZ are looking for?

Lots of questions; I’m asking here because the big picture side of immigration is seldom discussed in public discourse.

    I find it weird when I read these stories, sadly becoming increasingly common overseas, where the media does everything it can to avoid stating where the particular individual came from. One of the reasons journalists are increasingly distrusted is this avoidance of stating simple facts – it’s not like people can’t find this out themselves!

    The reason USA and Europe do so well is due to large internal markets and network effects from large populations.
    
    Smaller population makes you more reliant upon foreign trade, and makes lots of goods and services more expensive, reduces essential net-work effects needed to grow and make industries more efficient and makes it harder for businesses to expand to point where they can be competitive exporters. It also reduces the pool of high talent individuals who create business and industries.

      Standard of living and quality of life are not the same thing. Treating a country like a marketplace instead of peoples’ home is a recipe for disaster. The logic of capitalism necessitates endless immigration, because endless growth is imperative. Of course, endless growth in a finite world is completely contradictory and delusional. But there’s too much short term profit to be made to worry about the inevitable consequences of your ideology.

    The Elites , particularly in Germany , have used the pension issue as a deception/outright lie ( mis/disinformation to use their language) to silence opposition and to act as some sort of excuse for the mass , uncontrolled migration.
    
    With automation , de industrialisation to the third world , housing and welfare for these people , many of whom will never work or will do only menial work and never pay net taxes the pension argument is simply wrong.
    
    I don’t know what it is the Elites think they’ll achieve with the mass migration but they themselves know it ain’t got anythingto do with pension timebombs.They can’t be that thick.

  The population of the whole of Ireland was about 8mil in 1840 before the potato famine
  It is less than that now.
  Huge numbers died from starvation and huge numbers emigrated to the US, Australia, NZ and wherever else
  I went to Ireland for a week fifty years ago and compared to the UK it was like a third world country. Few people were going to immigrate there.
  It wasn’t until the 1990s when the economy boomed that immigrants arrived in numbers including returning Irish.
  NZ has always attracted immigrants and everyone’s family originated elsewhere

I am hugely heartened by the ambitious programme announced by the new Government yesterday. The changes in education, justice, the whole maorification shambles, and the savings to be made in the public “service” which has been turned into the Labour Party back office, are all exciting.

Of course the dear old media have been flat out looking for stories based round “what happens when it all turns to shit?” and I think they got a taste of things to come from Winston yesterday.

Overall, the sense of optimism is there and it clearly is backed up by some well-thought out policies to get rid of the Ardern/Hipkins/Robertson legacy of hard left ideologies. And didn’t the media love going to Hipkins so he could tell us that NZ was never going to be more divided? It was his government that has radicalised the left and promoted the absolute crap that now pervades our society.

So, best wishes to Luxon, Seymour and Peters. You have our backs – get on with all that is necessary to reform New Zealand.

  Clyde, I confess I have grave reservations about Luxon’s ACTUAL position when it comes to measures of demaorification.
  
  ACT’s Treaty referendum must have been one of the “sticking points” of coalition talks because National has only agreed to permit Seymour to present his Bill and let it go to Select Committee – without any promise or shred of support past that. Any reasoning mind would detect only the odour of a convenient political manoeuvre to kill it.
  
  Luxon has a very long way to go to earn my trust.

Friday’s announcements were very impressive. Can’t think of a more positive day politically for NZ. It was the Renaissance replacing the Dark ages. The two coalition agreements clear repudiation of the garbage inflicted upon NZ over the last six years. The policy in the agreements are credible, show intent, allows for accountability, and generally serve the people. A very good day for NZ

Watching the nonsense vids of Gaza hospitals I note the lack of orderliness with ‘patients’ being carried through very very cluttered rooms lit by the nonexistant electricity and strewn with other ‘patients’ lying about on the floor.
Used to be a system we used called Triage where you graded patients before treatment.
At no time was the discipline that that system requires was observed.

I’m hoping that the new Government can fulfill it’s promise. I have confidence that Luxon and Seymour will work well together, and work out differences in a calm and rational manner.

However, after the press conference yesterday, I am possessed of a certain uncertainty regarding the conduct of one W. Peters.

In playing to his base, he is presenting as a bit of a loose cannon, and an abrasive one at that. His ongoing relationship with the Media in particular will be interesting.

  If you’ll excuse the pedantry, the thing about a loose cannon is that initially it’s a major hazard to defenders as it careers backwards and forwards across the deck. But if the ship is boarded, then the loose cannon is a hazard for defenders and invaders alike. Further, the general fate of a loose cannon is it’s either grabbed and tied down, or it bursts through a bulwark and goes to David Jones locker. Two out of two ain’t bad.
  
  Of course very occasionally if the ship goes down so does the loose cannon – but in every life a little rain doth fall.

Mr Hipkins – “This is definitely going to be a government that drives people apart and lead to more polarisation of the nation than we have seen to date.”

I think there will be a clash of priorities, as promised, and that clash actions will find that the quiet opinions of the quiet majority will be vindicated.

There was a post on KB a while back asking for one word to describe the Labour-led government. IIRC ‘divisive’ featured bigly.

      I think Stuff will go down the gurgler first. they’ve had the election ad spend, PIJF, a Christmas ad spend to come. Then comes the silly season. No more ad spends until Easter. That’s not nearly as big as Christmas. The time before last; they were bought for a six, or seven figure sum. The last time it was $1. Hopefully there will be a mini-budget canning the PIJF; which goes until 2026. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re gone by June 30th.

Good to see some of the Israeli hostages released. The UN is trying to pressure Israel to continue the ceasefire. The children who were realised were all under 10. The UN refers to the Palestinians released as women and children. Whereas they were youths who committed violent crimes.

The argument isn’t that “no Palestinian youth commit offences aganst Jews” it is that “indiscriminate murder of all Palestinians because some of them commit offences is wrong.” In other words, it’s just as wrong for Hamas to kill a Jew just because of the actions of the Jewish state as it is for Israel to kill a Palestinian just because of the actions of Hamas.
        
        As a rational moral principle, if every Palestinian can be collectively punished for the actions of some Palestinians, then it follows that every Jew can be collectively punished for the actions of some Jews.
        
        The only reason you could reject this is if you felt Jewish lives are intrinsically more worthy than Palestinians. That’s fine, but that’s also something other than a universal moral principle. That’s chauvinism or even supremacism.

    There’s great irony in this statement. Over the last 20 years, certainly in the Middle East, they have done this for Israel’s exclusive benefit and for no real benefit at all to America itself. Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan – all irrelevant to US national interest, until you consider that Zionists largely determine US foreign policy due to the influence of the Israel lobby. The difference now is that, largely because of the blood and immense treasure expended for Israel since the turn of the century, the US has lost it’s ability to project power anywhere and at any time. ‘Who watches the watchers’? Back in the not distant past the MSM held a/the key watcher and reporting role.

That has all changed and it is those watchers now scrutinised for a whole different audience.

As public sector comms budgets are cut, and advertisers find alternatives, how long can the MSM last, even with some paid subscribers.

However, each early morning newspapers are delivered to my neighbours, at least 4 so maybe I am too pessimistic (or optimistic).

Good morning Kiwi bloggers. It’s a great day to be alive. We have so much to look forward to –
– a reserve Bank that concentrates on price stability
– schools that teach the basics and don’t teach gender ideology
– everyone being treated equally with equal rights and responsibilities
– the end of race-based policies
– landlords can rent out properties again
– the end of the resource Management act
– the return of law and order

I could be here all day. Now I know we can quibble about the details and will the coalition last? But at least they are saying sensible things! The previous government promised rubbish and delivered rubbish. There was no hope with the previous lot. At least we now have hope. So as for me I’m taking the win. 🙂

    I suspect Orr, and no doubt Coster, will have some interesting meetings with the new government ministers over the next few days.
    
    I’d be very surprised if Orr remains in his post. Some deal will no doubt be arranged as he will be incapable of retaining the governments confidence in his ability to perform his role. (Coster will be in a similar situation).
    
    As an aside, it would be good if this type of hand grenade whereby a clearly outgoing Finance Minister can so brazenly try and handicap a new government by providing the current governor with a substantial new contract in an election year. I doubt we will get there but I would think that all such contracts for politically appointed roles should expire shortly after an election to allow a change of government to select candidates that are aligned to its vision.

One of them is to repeal Section 7AA of the Oranga Tamariki Act.

This section requires the agency to reduce disparities between Maori and non Maori children and to form partnerships with Iwi to that end. This is the section of the legislation that drove the agency to attempt to remove a Maori child who was happily in the care of white foster parents for a number of years. It was a shameful episode.

It will take a while for all these vested interests to realise what is in the coalition agreement. I look forward to the multiple meltdowns. 🤡

Here in the rainy Wairarapa the air show is supposed to be taking place. I’m not sure it actually is or not as we have wet weather with very low cloud but it brought to mind the last time I attended. On that occasion the weather was fabulous and I had taken my camper up to Hood aerodrome and was parked up with many others in a paddock adjacent to the airfield and what a time everyone was having. Well that was until on the Saturday an emergency signal was received on our mobile phones informing us that Ardern had decided that due to the fact that two or three cases of Covid had been detected in Auckland she had decided to shut down the entire country and put everyone under house arrest. So this air show that had thousands of people in attendance and had been going on for nearly two of its three day schedule had to immediately be shut down and everyone disperse to their respective homes. Now the thing that really struck me apart from the absurdity of it was how my fellow campers and attendees meekly accepted it and started packing up with the air of children whose games had been interrupted by their mothers calling them home for tea. I thought of Jordan Peterson’s observation that most people when they put themselves in the position of a citizen in a totalitarian society see themselves as one of those who would be a dissident or even a member of the resistance when in reality statistics show they would be compliant collaborators whose principle goal would be not to be noticed . This is why I despise Ardern and co because her and her swaggering cohorts humiliated a people who up until that period of time could pride themselves and did pride themselves on their national character of resilience, self reliance, sense of fair play and justice. She manipulated their fatal flaw that of trust in their leaders and institutions especially in a time of national danger, no politicians would ever abuse their position in a time of national crisis surely. So we all just packed up and went home. I wish nothing good on her or the members of her regime. You know who you are and so do we.

      Agreed, nothing will happen, certainly not this term. I also expect that Ardern’s brain fart captains call has effectively killed NZ as an exploration market. Due to the timeframes for return on investment, the O&G forms wold need a broad political consensus to emerge from both main governing parties that their long term investment is secure. Labour will no doubt reflect on why they lost, hear about the need to tack to the centre…….then veer further leftwards to head off the rise of the Greens. Therefore, no stable consensus will emerge, investment will be considered extremely risky, more so considering the increased political risk, therefore it will probably not happen.

    I’m generally not in favour of laws being passed under urgency unless absolutely essential – rushed law is usually bad law.
    
    However, there is a part of me, the childish part granted, that recalls all the ‘under urgency’ crap that the Labour government has done over the last six years, purely in order to avoid scrutiny, and thinks well you reap what you sow and a bit of “right back at you” probably wouldn’t be a bad idea!
    
    Being serious though, the urgency approach is probably merited to remove some appalling Acts soon to come into effect but the new government needs to be careful not to overplay its hand. Urgency should only be used in rare occasions and they should avoid at all costs the approach the left took using urgency just to avoid detailed debate and scrutiny.

  It’s been amusing speaking with them over the last two days and hearing their views. Dr. Jeffrey Sachs Says COVID About ‘Massive Government Lying,’ Quits Democrats

A prominent “lifelong Democrat” scholar and economist who chaired a COVID-19 commission blasted Dr. Anthony Fauci and others for promoting “massive government lying” regarding the coronavirus, and accused Senate Democrats of refusing to investigate the virus’ origins.

Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University professor who chaired a COVID-19 commission set up by “The Lancet” medical journal, said he has since left the Democratic Party after seeing how government officials have behaved around the origins of the virus.

“The sad part of this, not with respect to the vaccine per se, but with respect to the origin of the virus, is that it’s yet another case of massive government lying,” Sachs said during an appearance on The Hill’s “Rising” show.

“We have since discovered from the start that what the government told us about ‘natural origins’ of this virus were hokey, and really amounting to scientific fraud.”

Sachs said that even the scientists who wrote “The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2” in the spring of 2020 “didn’t even believe that as they were writing it because they knew that there were so many hints that this could well have come out of a U.S. lab, or out of Chinese lab, or out of a U.S.-China partnership in the research.”

Sachs admitted he, too, bought into the mainstream media’s COVID-19 reporting at the beginning of the pandemic, especially after a major scientific journal, “Nature,” said there was overwhelming evidence the origin was natural.

He then credited reporting by The Intercept, U.S. Right to Know, and whistleblowers for helping to change his thinking.

“[They] started letting us in on what was really said inside, was shocking,” said Sachs, who added that after requesting a certain document he had been refused by a fellow commission member.

“I said, ‘Well, you can’t be on the commission. We’re a transparent commission,” Sachs said. “And I began to really see close up that there was so much lying coming out of NIH [National Institutes of Health], coming out of Fauci, coming out of, unfortunately, the government protecting all of this and now it’s spilling out.”

Sachs insists his desire to investigate COVID-19’s origin has more to do with present-day and future research. He credited Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., for focusing on gain-of-function research and for trying to persuade Democrat colleagues to probe the issue.

“It’s shocking to me that Democratic senators can’t understand this is not a partisan issue,” Sachs said. “This is a life and death issue. What kind of research is going on? What kind of laboratory manipulation’s going on? What is going on under what we euphemistically … call our biodefense research? Because who knows what it really is?

“I have gotten to understand well that there is a tremendous amount of dangerous research that is not supervised, and it would behoove our Democratic senators, as well as the Republicans, to find out what’s happening. This is not about getting Fauci, this is not about the past, this is about right now.”

Sachs ended his appearance with a plea to Senate Democrats.

“C’mon, we need to understand what’s going on, and we need to understand what kind of dangerous research is under way, and we need to understand where this virus came from,” he said.

“Open the books at University of North Carolina, open the books at Rocky Mountain Labs, understand the funding by the United States of the teams from University of North Carolina and other universities with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Let’s understand what really happened.”
This type of confession and real truth about Covid Coverup should be grist for the Peters Inquiry as promised in the recent NZs Coalition Agreement.
Until then we will hold our breath to see if the mismanagement and lies and deliberate confusion by the Ardern/Hipkins /control freaks supported by the usual toady suspects .

    How far is Gaza from Egypt? When did Egypt get artillery and aircraft? The Israelis had plenty of good reasons to build underground fortifications when they were in control of Gaza.
    It’s interesting to note the people who believe that the Palestinians have no legitimate reason to build underground structures now, especial if those same people also believe in the right of self defense.

Loved that list of coalition points DPF published yesterday. A complete rejection of the wokefication of nz over the last 6 years. Although not a fan of Peters by any means I think he adds value to this arrangement.

Isn’t it pitiful watching Hipkins trying to throw stones at the new coalition from the sidelines, make himself relevant, after the total mess his administration has left. He has no leg to stand on and the Labour Party would do well to move him out asap. Just a really bad look.

There was a poetic farmer talking on ZB yesterday. He said that after reading the coalition deal, he felt like he had been freed from a dark cave and seeing the sunlight. 😂

I hope that the government prioritises freeing farmers from regulatory burdens. I think a good start would be to base the regulation of harms to water in science. IMO it was a mistake to allow Iwi to develop “te mana o te wai” statements and to use these as the basis of regulating farmers. It provides no certainty or rationality to farmers.

I see the early signs that the NZ Labour Party has not, and appears has no intention, of learning a single bloody thing as to why they’ve been unceremoniously thrown out of office after only six years.

Instead of being honest and sincere and taking the time to reflect on their loss and to look at the reasons why – instead they’ve chosen to just carry on as normal, continue to claim they’re right about everything and everyone else is wrong.

I see. The NZ Labour Party can divide New Zealanders all it likes. It can implement policy after policy that accentuated our supposed differences. That granted privileges to people from certain racial groups over others and all the while constantly scolding and lecturing some groups that they are inherently racist, have inbuilt biases and discrimination and that they have everything to be ashamed of and nothing to be proud of – to the point where I don’t believe New Zealanders have ever been more divided across fault lines that Labour themselves created.

(Policies I might add that in many situations they were either unwilling or unable to defend. Their explanation for and defence of aspects of co-governance and 3 Waters was pathetic. Risible. Willie Jackson popping up on the odd tv show repeatedly squawking “Kiwis have nothing to fear” while the entire senior Labour team dived for cover – the best Ardern could manage was “Democracy has changed, we are now more sophisticated…”What? What does that even mean?)

And as they have done all this they have repeatedly claimed “Oh, we are bringing people together” as the evidence overwhelmingly mounts that they have done exactly the opposite – hence, among other things, their election trouncing as people overwhelmingly reject Labour prescriptions.

But if National and others push back against Labour’s policies it is THEY that are divisive?

One might ask, if Labour, as they claim, has been right about everything they have done why have they just lost the election? Were NZers wrong in the way they voted? Are New Zealanders stupid, do they think? Or will it be the old “We just didn’t communicate our policies well enough” excuse Labour frequently uses?

Just thinking ahead to the 2026 election. Assuming a moderately successful, or better, performance from National and friends, can you just imagine the difficulties of leading Labour into the election campaign? They will be just excoriated with people pointing back to the absolute disaster of the period 2017-23, with monumental failures and division left, right and centre and people asking whether they want to go back to that?

The NZ Labour Party have become a rudderless ship I believe. They are being tossed around in a sea of confusion, they don’t know what they stand for anymore, and are at an absolute loss as to why National and friends have won the election.

If I was them I’d just shut my mouth right now, show a bit of humility, get back to basics on why they exist and ask themselves some very deep soul-searching questions about the last six years and what has clearly gone very wrong for them.

Unfortunately, based on what I’ve seen so far, I won’t hold my breath that this will happen.

Yet another illustration of how incredibly stupid The Science has become.

Eugyppius reports on a study designed to show how HEPA filters would miraculously end covid infections, instead their meticulous study showed the opposite. 🤡

Here’s part of the summary.

Before Omicron and the installation of any air filters, all 32 childcare centres had totally comparable rates of infection. After the intervention centres got their filters, everything changed. For the seven months studied, the filtered centres saw an average of 372 infections per 1000 children, while the unfiltered control centres saw only 186.5 infections.

Childcare staff contracted Covid at much higher rates; the filtered centres saw an average of 1193.2 infections per 1000 staff, while the control centres had 529.7. In each case, we see that centres with HEPA filters had about twice as many infections as those without them.

Isn’t this part of what the Greens wanted to push? More massive waste for educational and healthcare facilities to get ‘proper’ air filtration systems??!!
If it wasn’t such a tragedy it would read like a Monty Python skit.

The agreements he got are the best that could be hoped for. There are two aspects of power he has which he can play as appropriate –
  1. Choosing the date of the next election and that includes staring people down and forcing a confidence vote if need be – on his terms.
  2. Awarding knighthoods (and I was going to say London but he is a bit old to be offered that).

I am having a difficult discussion with my son regarding the word “woke”. While I follow the various iterations of it in blogs such as KB, I am having difficulty coming up with a definition that is authoritative. He says no-one can explain to him what the problem is. I’ve looked online for a helpful definition, but the standard dictionary definitions don’t encompass the more recent expansions of the concept.

So I would be very grateful for some assistance from KB contributors. Particularly including some illustrations of ways in which wokeness is now being applied. Links to quality references would be greatly appreciated, as my son does not give credence to generalisations or unsourced references.

  These are highly paid people who must find problems to justify their existence. The result is that employees in corporates and institutions are silenced.
  Obama accidentally unleashed the full onslaught by requiring gender identity to be a legally protected matter in his famous Dear Colleagues letter in about 2011.
  Title 9 is the featured statute.
  Here is an example in the gender space, but he will see you as a transphobe. This guy is not one despite the message, he supports the right of adults to undergo drugs and surgery and will respect their pronouns.

  Chloe Swarbrick is woke, she supports men being in female spaces and sport because she is rich, and won’t be endangered. That is an example of how being woke can be painless.
  The labour and green parties are woke, NZF is not woke. National plays woke, Nicola Willis and Erica Stanford have thrown children and women under the bus in the cause of hoovering a few woke votes.
  I have a friend trying to find a publisher for a book he has written on the subject, no luck yet despite 15 or so other books on the subject. Most people find they can’t reach females between the ages of 17 and 25 because this cohort are omniscient and know everything. These women are indoctrinated by woke institutions, and go on to rule in publishing houses and media. They are formidable. They rail at micro aggressions (eg silence is violence) but empathize with macro aggressors like Hamas.

  In my opinion, wokeness is a form of cultural Marxism. The woke ideology essentially pushes concepts of socialist utopian grandeur. Most woke ideas at their core, are fundamentally flawed as they are based on insurmountable delusions of reality. For example, “what is a woman”? It is the denial and inability to accept reality that allows wokeness to grow. As with most Marxist concepts, the description/name is an exact opposite of its observed function.
  
  Woke = dreaming. Completely asleep to reality.
  
  Just like how the disinformation project actually pushes disinformation. Just like how the woke believe it is racist to treat everyone equally. Just like how the woke believe inflation isn’t caused by inflation, but it actually caused by various other factors. Wokeness is best described as a cultural marxist bastardisation of reality.

  Mapping the Margins by Kimberle Crenshaw is the essential birthplace of woke. It is intersectional Marxism.
  
  It is the combination of classism, racism, sexism, queer theory, religions and post modernism welded together – the oppression olympics.
  
  Its origins are cultural Marxism (Antonio Gramsci) which the Frankfurt school would graft into their Neo Marxism’s (especially Herbert Marcuse). Marcuse’s protege Angela Davis (a black lesbian Neo Marxist) would be a major inspiration for Kimberle Crenshaw.
  
  They also adopted Mao’s cultural revolution as well. They like xi-nao from Mao in particular – that’s where we get the term brainwashing from. Whether there’s a link between Gramsci and Mao is unknown but the Frankfurt school liked both.

  It is tearing apart the feminists as it is steam rolling over the TERFs as an example.
  
  It is also tearing apart society; those on the Left are affected when they fail the latest purity test as another example.
  
  The whole point is to implement communism. Like its forbears it will create mountains of skulls if it ever takes over.
  
  It has infiltrated education under the guise of critical pedagogy. There are other Marxist ideas in education too under the umbrella term of Critical Theory – SEL, Critical Race Theory, Critical White Studies being a few examples.
  
  It has infiltrated large corporations through DEI and ESG as well as “Sustainability”. Klaus Schwab calls this Stakeholder Capitalism.
  
  It has infiltrated organised religions. Liberation Theology for Catholicism. Resolution 9 for Southern Baptists. But Christianity is hardly the only religion as they have movements within Islam, Buddhism etc.

 Maybe in baby-form, if not then it’s really close. I expect human-beating artificial general intelligence in next 2-3 years. And superintelligence far superior to humans within weeks to months after that.
 
 This is biggest invention since fire, and it’s happening, irrevocably, right now. One way or another over next 10’s to 100’s of years it will lead to human extinction hopefully either benignly via trans-humanism as we gradually morph into AIs ourselves, or (I fear more likely) the AIs will decide they have other uses for earth that aren’t compatible with human survival.
 
 Next to this all the socio-political problems we discuss and fear are as nothing.

Probably a combination of ignorance and inability or unwillingness (in pschological terms low trait openness) to re-jig their understanding of the world to accommodate this ‘outside of context’ change/threat to their lives. All the assumptions of our understanding of the world and our place in it are about to become wrong. Life, business,career and retirement plans all swept away by technological revolution.
 
 We’re like the Dodos impassively watching the arrival of the first sailing ships at their Island with bland disinterest.
 
 Even the most benign possible trajectories see enormous upheaval and an end to most underpinnings of human civilisation (dump rules of economics, the ‘social contract’, commerce, reward for effort, human labour becoming uneconomic, much human endeavor and individual raison d’etre becoming meaningless)

  Ireland was forced to accept this migration by pressure, including fines, from the remote EU bureaucracy.

In an email Newshub has seen, Mairangi Bay School principal Nathan Janes told students to stay home until further notice due to a “bomb threat”.

Is there any substantial reason why media who “have seen” these emails do not quote anything pertinent from them. Is it a reflection on readers that they are not capable of “trust” that they too should not see any such detail?

      Eventually Indira Ghandi sent in the Indian Army under that Great Indian Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
      
      He defeated the Pakistanis, and treated the PoWs with respect and bought peace and order to E Pakistan and it became Bangladesh.

I made a rare visit to TV One last night to get their take on the new government.
For those who wisely chose not to watch this was what occurred. Simon “lefty sycophant” Dallow would introduce a policy initiative from the new govt. This would be followed by a unknown academic/union spokesman/unknown Maori spokesperson decrying said initiative as if it was the end of the world. Obviously no time to find a spokesperson who might actually agree with the policy.
The nadir was the Maori spokesperson on the policy of changing Govt agencies back to their original names who described this as “devastating”. So in future if we get a radio announcement from the NZ Transport agency (instead of Waka Kotahi) that the left lane of the Terrace Tunnel is blocked because of an accident I assume all of Maoridom will be “devastated” at such an announcement and see this as the end of the world. Jesus wept!
So two things we can count on in the next 3 years is TV One being unrelentingly negative toward the National led Govt and the Maori grievance industry going into hyperdrive.

God created heaven and the earth. Quickly he was faced with a class action suit for failure to file an environmental impact statement. He was granted a temporary permit for the project, but was stymied with the cease and desist order for the earthly part.
Appearing at the hearing, God was asked why he began his earthly project in the first place. He replied that he just liked to be creative. Then God said, “Let there be light”, and immediately the officials demanded to know how the light would be made. Would there be strip mining? What about thermal pollution?
God explained that the light would come from a huge ball of fire. God was granted provisional permission to make light, assuming that no smoke would result from the ball of fire: that he would obtain RMA consent(rescouce management consent); and to conserve energy, would have the light out half the time. God agreed and said he would call the light “Day” and the darkness “Night”. Officials replied that they were not interested in semantics.
God said, “Let the earth bring forth green herb and such as many seed”. DOC 9dept of conservation) agreed so long as native seed was used. Then God said, “Let waters bring forth creeping creatures having life; and the fowl that may fly over the earth”.
Officials pointed out this would require approval from the Department of Conservation coordinated with the Heavenly Wildlife Federation and the Forest & Bird Society.
Everything was fine until God said he wanted to complete the project in Six days. Officials said it would take at least 200 days to review the application and impact statement. After that there would be a public hearing. Then there would be 10-12 months before the granting…
At this point God created Hell.

  I agree with John Campbell, it’s awful, so awful I think John should move to Australia, or even maybe the USA. Actually I think Australia or the USA should immediately go to the UN and call for the resettlement of NZ’s political reporter refugees.

  I think that’s very revealing of Campbell’s world view, and not in a good way.
  
  Campbell was a couple of years ahead of me at Wellington College, so he must be approaching 60. You might have thought that in all those years he might have heard of the expression “there are many ways to skin a cat”.
  
  Or, does he in fact believe that:
  
  1. Labour’s policies were guaranteed to deliver better, more prosperous lives.
  2. The only way to deliver Maori better, more prosperous lives was through Labour’s policies.
  3. National and friends’ policies are guaranteed not to deliver Maori better, more prosperous lives.
  
  I strongly suspect that is exactly what he believes – to be writing off National’s policies before they are even in government, and talking doom and gloom about their intention to dismantle many of Labour’s.
  
  Well, I’ve got news for Mr Campbell. I would wager Mikenmild’s house that should Labour had free rein for, say, 10 years and their policies allowed to run what we’d see is a small slice of Maori becoming extraordinarily wealthy (the tribal elites, the already successful, the connected Wellington Maori, Maori lawyers and Maori ‘service providers’) but with ordinary Maori doing absolutely no better than they are today and probably worse.
  
  I offer two pieces of evidence that this will be the case.
  
  1. Labour’s policies don’t and didn’t address the fundamental problems causing Maori underachievement. Throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at the Tamihere’s of this world won’t fix the fundamental problem that the majority of Maori receive an appalling education in NZ, via the state system. Maori will always be at the bottom of our social statistics while this is the case. Alongside staying married, developing marketable skills and behaviours, and not having kids when young it is up with the largest factors in life success.
  
  2. If there was thing that Labour distinguished themselves with in the last six years it is that they have proved yet again that you can pour gazzilions into areas, in their case health, education, mental health and housing etc, and actually end up with worse outcomes.
  
  This is exactly what would have happened with Maori had Labour not got the boot.
  
  (I’d add to that there needs to be a bloody great attitude adjustment within certain parts of Maoridom for them to be uplifted in great numbers. They lead the truancy stats and just take one look at the hundreds and hundreds of Maori posting comments lamenting the death of Bird Hines and saying how much he will be missed etc on Facebook and tell me they are people with their values straight. Hines has caused untold harm to our communities, worst of all Maori, over 40 years and profiteered from that misery and he is lamented like some sort of Kiwi Robin Hood?
  
  You’d never see that from the Chinese, or Indian, or Japanese communities in New Zealand.)
  
  So, I am greatly disappointed in John Campbell. For a person such as him, of one our supposed premier journalists, appearing to be empty of intellectual curiosity as to what might actually work in lifting Maori achievement and shows he is a mere slave to Labour policy prescriptions. Policy prescriptions that have shown us time after time they don’t work – they merely give an illusion of progress.
  
  I say that if National and friends deliver Maori a world class education (and Maori parents have a massive role to play here), find a way to keep Maori families together in much greater numbers, reduce welfare dependency, get far more young Maori into work early and lift economic productivity and growth they will do much, much more than Labour could ever dream about.

    Welfare and legal system reward women who expel dads from their kids lives with money and greater freedom. Especially amongst poorest sections of community. Broken fatherless kids growing into unhappy failing adults is an inevitable direct result of generous ‘caring’ mother-focused/favouring welfarism and family law.

      One of my friends just split up after a 10yr relationship. Two kids. Very sad, especially for the kids.
      
      It got me thinking though. There is no incentive to keep families together, and plenty of incentives to break apart families. I had to ponder, from the female perspective, what benefit is there to actually keeping the man around? I honestly could not think of anything. Fathers are being replaced by the state. If you could have all of the financial benefits of having a partner, without them having any control or say in those finances or raising of the children, why wouldn’t you choose this option?

It will be interesting to see how the renaming of government agencies comes along.

Government departments can just be renamed as the stroke of a pen.

Some Crown Entities could be a bit more tricky.

For example the legislation “establishes Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities and provides for a government policy statement on housing and urban development.”

I can’t see the Government changing the Act just to change the name. Maybe it will just rebrand as “Homes and Communities”. However I would wager that its first advice to the new Minister will be “We can’t change our name because it is in our Act.” 🙂 Good luck with that.

Waka Kotahi will have no such luck. Its Act names it “New Zealand Transport Agency”. 🙂

About 30 Labour MPs lost their seats ( and their big incomes ) at the last election: it will be interesting to see just what they will be doing for a crust in the near future.
I bet some will be sweating, having committed to large mortgages on the best salary they will ever get.

The last thing the people of Gisborne need is more heavy rain, but that’s what they got again on Saturday.

To make matters worse it’s come after the coalition leaders failed to make an announcement they were hoping for – the appointment of a minister who would be dedicated to cyclone recovery.

  IMO, this certainly legitimises Casey Costello’s appointment as List MP for the NZ First coalition party in Government. My strong regulatory recommendation to fix the number of unknown and ineffective MP’s who get into Parliament on Party Lists is that they are required to stand in an Electorate, and to gain at least 10% of the total vote in that electorate to be eligible for appointment. I’m open to a variation on that percentage, but no less than 5% minimum. Casey’s result so far (90% votes counted) is at ~20% of the total vote.

  And if you are a regular here you will know I am very much NOT an “Israel right or wrong” guy. The Palestinian problem is hopelessly complex, and has been for well over 100 years.
  
  I myself don’t think there IS a solution….the much vaunted “two state solution” has been proposed for at least 100 years….and always rejected, usually by the Palestinians and other Arabs.

    Why do you say the Palestinians are firing rockets “indiscriminately”? This maybe a nitpick but wouldn’t the correct term be “inaccurately”?
    The Palestinians can’t be firing indiscriminately (as in without discrimination) and also firing them into Israel because they can clearly discriminate between Israel and not Israel. Indiscriminate fire would hit any point of the compass at random.
    Do you use that term because of the connotation? Indiscriminate fire sounds like the work of a madman, inaccurate fire doesn’t sound very dangerous.
    What level of accuracy is considered legitimate and who decides?

        No it’s not. People at war equip themselves with the best weapons they can get, why wouldn’t you?
        A truly indiscriminate Palestinian weapon fired from Gaza would be just as likely to kill Palestinians as Israelis. More likely in fact because the Palestinians are closer.
        The term “indiscriminate” is totally misapplied if not outright propaganda. Similar to western media accusing Russians of “indiscriminately” bombing Syrian rebels or Ukrainians. If that was the case, then why would the Russians even put targeting computers on their aircraft or sights on their guns?
