      She also failed to cite one source.
      That’s it
      Hardly on Gays level.
      It might backfire now because her Billionaire husband is pissed and is putting resources and staff into examining the work of those at Business Insider who did this beat up.

        Reading the business Insider article, they also reported that she used a lot of Wikipedia information. However, most of Wikipedia is lifted off other sources, without attribution. Therefore, listing Wikipedia is misattribution.
        It is also relevant that Neri Oxman didn’t marry her husband until years after her dissertation. She had a previous marriage. Ackman would have no association with what she did for her PhD. That makes it look like it is very much a smear campaign of guilt by association.

She was a diversity hire without the academic or management ability to justify it. It backfired in a big way. They put her back to just a lecturer but with an inflated salary to persuade her to jump.         Strange then that she received academic prizes and was a senior administrator at Harvard for 10 years ‘without academic or management ability’. Must have been a coincidence that these allegations arose after she allegedly supported antisemitic demonstrations.

        Hey, what’s a little bit of academic plagiarism anyway, when the well-connected Jewish Wall Street billionaire donor husband is going to set his dogs on those responsible for exposing the wife’s plagiarism?
        
        I must say, when I first heard about this extremely ironic development, the prospect of coming to KB today for the downplaying of both the plagiarism of the wife (having unequivocally condemned the Harvard woman for the same) plus the continued denial of the exercise of coordinated Jewish power exercised by the billionaire husband in revenge for exposing his wife (having strenuously denied that this phenomenon is common, while also pointing out that this is exactly what is going to happenin response from Ackman) was very exciting.
        
        You certainly aren’t disappointing me, ladies and gentlemen.

        With regards to the departure of Ms Gay from Harvard, there appears to have been three campaigns which people like Milky and CG have morphed into one.
        After her Congressional testimony, where she and a couple of other university presidents couldn’t give a yes/ no answer to a simple question on antisemitic hate speech, the was a campaign by several big law firms not to hire any Harvard graduates. Together with this other firms rescinded employment letters to people who had supported a petition on 8th October which among other things, called for a stop to the ongoing annihilation of Palestinians and totally blaming the terrorism on Israel. That petition had caused controversy and Ms Gay issued a statement “that did not directly address the controversy but instead said university leaders were “heartbroken” by “the attack by Hamas that targeted citizens in Israel this weekend, and by the war in Israel and Gaza now under way”. That did not calm the storm so next day “, clarified that the school “condemn[ed] the terrorist atrocities perpetrated by Hamas”. ” Such inhumanity is abhorrent, whatever one’s individual views of the origins of longstanding conflicts in the region,” she said. “This was 8-10th October and from the BBC website.
        In November, some big donors (~1600 according to CNN) announced they would stop giving money.
        Then came her Congress testimony on 5th December. For that, she was prepped by big name PR and law firms. After it, law firms announcing it would stop hiring directly, citing as a reason her testimony. As well as that, Bill Ackman announced he was in a serious dispute over their handling of stock he had gifted in 2017 – about $70M worth. Ackman had started a campaign about antisemitism at Harvard.
        Through all this, the Harvard Corporation continued to support the President
        Chris Rufo through the NY Post announced that they had found plagiarism in Ms Gays thesis. The board said they had earlier investigated and threatened to sue the NY Post in October as they were demonstrably false. Then the President submitted corrections. Then came more allegations of plagiarism on Jan 1st. It now was identified as being present in about half of what she had published over a 24 year period – and she had a very slim portfolio.
        Then came her resignation on 2nd Jan. It must have been an agreement with the Board as she kept her salary despite going back to just being on faculty.
        So it wasn’t antisemitism or racism which caused her to lose her job, it was just she carried too much baggage. She was a diversity hire which backfired. Something that should cause heads to roll in the Corporation.

        With regards stuff on Wikipedia, what is its source? A lot is cut and paste from other sources, very little of which has academic attribution. One would need to do a full check on Wayback and the timelines to see when the texts in question were posted and what modifications have been done to them and by whom. For all we know, someone may have lifted them from Ms Oxham’s work of 12 years ago. That would be embarrassing, wouldn’t it.

        Not just any 1600 plus donors, but, very specifically, 1600 plus Jewish donors:

        This is not an insignificant distinction. It is qn extremely salient fact, because it directly supports my consistent contention, which is that coordinated elite Jewish influence and pressure got her fired because Gay was insufficiently supportive of Israel’s interests, not plagiarism which is just an outward pretext to distract from the real, more obvious explanation.
        
        It’s notable that the controversy was for weeks unambiguously over “anti-semitism on campus,” yet plagiarism was ostensibly the reason for her removal. “Plagiarism” is much less politically sensitive than “organised Jewish influence” which is dismissed as an anti-semitic trope.         In some ways I think Che G is partially right.
        
        I think those liberal Jewish benefactors were happy to go along with supporting DEI. They were happy to support Gay just because she was black. They were happy to turn a blind eye to Gay’s awful academic record.
        
        But with the antisemitism, they withdrew their support – both financially as well as the DEI support.
        
        Fair enough. Why hold the asp to your bosom?

      Seriously mike? Perhaps you should keep up. Ackman’s main gripe with Gay that had him cease his Harvard donations, was her inability to defend against anti-semitism. Specifically, a question asked of her in Congress “whether calls for genocide against Jewish people constituted a violation of Harvard’s code of conduct”. The initial allegations of plagiarism were made by Chris Rufo and had nothing to do with Ackman who only subsequently enjoined them to his complaints about Gay because Harvard refused to fire her for her ineptitude in that Congressional testimony. Why mike, do you think that donors fled Harvard after her testimony?

        You guys need to get your story straight: some of you are saying that Harvard was all about plagiarism (yet are now excusing plagiarism in this case), while others deny this and say that, actually, the Jewish donors had her removed for not protecting their collective interest on campus (yet deny the fact of coordinated enforcement of Jewish interest).

  You didn’t actually look at what her plagiarism was did you milky? She properly attributed where she got the 4 paragraphs from (in a 300 page document IIRC), but she didn’t put the quote marks around them. That is orders of magnitude less than what Ms Gay did.
  As there now seems to be a plagiarism war started, I suspect a lot of academics are going to get caught out by unoriginal thoughts.

      She has a PhD in architectural design and is a professor at MIT. I think it’s safe to say she would be aware of academic writing standards. But I’m glad to see you agree that these two cases aren’t really plagiarism.

        Plagiarism is passing off someone else’s writing and ideas as your own.
        
        Now, in its most common form plagiarism occurs when you quote someone else’s words and fail to acknowledge that those words were written/spoken by someone else.
        
        It’s an easy mistake to forget to acknowledge the author of words that have stuck in your mind or were scribbled down in your notes months ago.
        
        But if there is a pattern of failing to acknowledge authorship… especially in Academic writing, then it’s a problem, as it suggests the writer is lazy as well as being incapable of providing his/her own perspective on an issue.
        
        BUT the main problem in Academia or the Creative Fields is taking other people’s ideas and claiming them as your own.
        
        I’ve come across 2 examples of plagiarism in commissioned work that I was editing.
        
        One I would ascribe to sheer laziness –
        
        The second was possibly just a failure to acknowledge the authorship of a pretty obscure piece of research. (i.e. the article read as if the writer had made the observation.)

    Reminds me of Joyce claiming “it was fairly legal” in relation to that National advert.
    
    Clearly, the principle guiding most views here is not the objective distinction between plagiarism/no plagiarism, is it the subjective distinction between their guy/our guy.

  It may have been that it was Jewish interests who pulled the trigger on Claudia Gay. But they didn’t make the gun. If Harvard, at the absolute top of The Ivy League just doesn’t follow its own rules then that’s on all of them. Now the taboo about calling out plagiarism has been broken expect a lot more top academics to fall.
  Plenty of solid evidence against Dr. Martin Luther King jr. but he was just too important to touch. This corruption runs deep and it’s no good to say that this piece here doesn’t stink just because that piece over there smells worse.

        Some of my fellow commenters, however, act like spoiled children when anyone steps off the pro-Israel train. These people have no right to condemn “the left” for group-think and dogmatic idealism on the topics that the left are emotionally invested in, because the behaviour of the former is identical to the latter’s.

    My support for Israel is less about being pro-Jewish and more about our shared democratic and free society ideal, from our membership of the US Western Empire.
    
    There is no-way I would like to be ruled by a Muslim based ethos, where I am an infidel and have less rights than a Muslim. Nor do I wish to be ruled by a Totalitarian regime such as China where the state has inconceivable power.
    
    So while I am critical of aspects of our Empire, the founding ideals and philosophy are still a better alternative than any other option. Thus I see Israel as a small beacon of light surrounded by darkness. I would like to see them survive against all odds.
    
    Equally, this puts me against the neo-marxists that would love nothing more than to pull down our Empire from within for their own ideological or nefarious reasons. That’s why I can’t stomach the Greens or TPM or the Global Socialist movements like WEF. The alternative they offer has been shown to be worse for the majority in all examples where it has been applied.
    
    I suspect many KBers share similar views. There are other blogs dedicated to those promoting neo-Marxism and minority rule.
    
    That said it doesn’t mean I agree with the war in Gaza. It would be akin to going to a concert that becomes overrun by the Mongrel Mob and them not letting anyone out of the venue – killing a few that try to leave. Then the police wage war on the Mongrel Mob with a stance that civilians in the venue are expendable. I would hate to be a civilian in that concert and I would hate to be a civilian in Gaza. It’s a situation where an international intervention, ie International peacekeeping and police force needs to be deployed to enable proper democratic processes to prevent rule by thugs.

      I am glad that you see your (and presumably NZ’s) position as being in an Empire, I broadly agree. But I don’t think I’m under any sort of obligation to believe whatever is the current foundation myth of that empire. There is no way the New Zealand and Israel are founded on the same principles Those founding ideals and philosophies certainly aren’t the same before as they are now. The current systems says it’s based on Human Rights something, something, and Democracy something, something else with the new invention of something called “the International Rules Based Order, whatever that means.
      The United Staes of America wasn’t founded on any of those things. They have run through various concepts such as “Divine Provenance”, “Liberty” and “Manifest Destiny” before dumping them all into the trash can of history and inventing something else as the times demanded.
      Ironically the idea that we now have the true ideology, against which all previous epochs and foreign nations must be measured is progressivist and Marxist. The religion of my tribe is obviously the one true faith so all past times and other tribes are wrong.

    How would denying the holocaust necessarily make someone anti-Jewish? I don’t see how the one follows as a consequence of the other. Of course, it is possible, but I don’t see how there is any necessary connection.
    
    Wouldn’t denying the holocaust just consist of scepticism towards the veracity of a particular set of historical claims and the narrative surrounding them, such scepticism being independent of any negative attitudes towards people involved in the event(s) in question? Some Jews themselves have been, and still are, holocaust sceptics, but does that make them anti-Jewish? I wouldn’t have thought so.
    
    To illustrate the principle, would someone who is deeply sceptical of claimed events surrounding either the life or the death of Jesus therefore be “anti-Christian” and have hatred towards Christians? Again, they could be anti-Christian, but then again, they may just be unconvinced by the claims of Christians.
    
    If the “holocaust denial equation” I note above is universally valid heuristic, then someone’s scepticism of Christ’s life and death would entail that sceptic’s hatred of Christians. Wouldn’t it?
    
    This logic is obviously ridiculous to most reasonable people.

        Ghost, you might be right but there are some differences between changing a telco supplier and choosing a different supermarket or brand of beer.
        
        The bud light consumer as a boycott is the most simple. You are at the liquor store, lots of products to choose from, just pick one that isn’t part of the bud family of beers.
        
        Conversely, changing my telco is something I might do very infrequently. It’s probably going to involve time and forms and payment setups, research into different options etc. Then are the other companies offering a different option – likely to be just as pro-trans. So why go to the effort?
        
        But for many, shopping at Countdown is probably just a 5-10 minute drive. So not as easy as a Bud boycott but much easier than Telco change.

The ACLJ and President Donald Trump have filed their appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court – now the 14th Amendment “disqualification” case that bans Trump from the 2024 ballot is in the Justices’ hands.
At this very moment, the ACLJ is representing the Colorado GOP at the U.S. Supreme Court in our fight to overturn the flawed decision by the Colorado Supreme Court to remove President Trump from the 2024 ballot.
This week we filed our reply brief at the Supreme Court, and President Trump filed an appeal on Wednesday. Now our appeal and the President’s appeal have been packaged together for the Justices to review.
So now we are waiting for the Supreme Court’s next move. We hope the Justices – as early as today – issue an order taking up the case. It’s very hard to predict what the Justices will decide and when.

  I would expect Clarence Thomas to rule in favour of Trump. (Happy wife, happy life)
  
  Alito would most likely side with Thomas, and has done so 86% of the time, but as a constitutionalist, may be swayed.
  
  John Roberts has worked with the Liberal side of the court before, and as a Bush Appointee, possibly represents one of the 2 votes needed to uphold the removal of Trump.
  
  This leaves us with the three Trump Appointees.
  
  Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Comey-Barrett.
  
  I do not expect all three to automatically support Trump. Gorsuch is an originalist in matters of the constitution, so it may fall to how he interprets Trump’s actions of Jan 6, and if that qualifies as insurrection.
  
  Kavanaugh is regarded as more conservative than Gorsuch and less conservative than Alito. He has some interesting views of Presidential Power and has voted against Trump on some issues in the past.
  
  Comey-Barrett is also an originalist in constitutional matters and could well be swayed by an “as written” view of the law.
  
  I do not see all three of Trump’s appointees supporting the outcome that favours Trump. In fact, I might suggest that only Alito and Thomas would be his only supporters.

      The 14th Amendment does not require a charge or a conviction.
      
      It states:
      
      “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”
      
      The remedy for this is not by the supreme court ruling, but by congress. Congress has, on 2 seperate occasions, overturned such a ban.
      
      It all falls to how SCOTUS choose to define the cations of the Former President on Jan 6. An origonalist reading of the 14th Amendment should see the matter referred to congress.

    You can thank the Jacinda Arden led Labour Greens government for the creation of the Stop Covernance. Prior to that we had been like the frog in the pot of gradually warming water – that is mostly unaware we were being cooked. But the aggressive, activist Jacinda led government pushed the racial division agenda so hard some of NZ finally woke up.
    
    Attack Julian Batchelor all you want MMA – the more you do that the more credibility it gets in my eyes.
    
    Others supportive of his cause say he is the wrong man for this job. Well they may be correct in that there are others with better credentials for the job. But the fact remains that Batchelor is the one with the resources and the backbone who actually did something. So even if he isn’t perfect we should be supporting him not bitching about him in the background.
    
    Similar to Tamaki when it came to opposing the Plandemic and Vaccine mandates. Might not be your cup of tea but he had the balls and the following to standup to the Government during a time when few others did. For that he has my respect and gratitude.

The Pros and Cons of living in Cambodia.

This perspective from a 77 year old Kiwi living primarily on NZ Super.
Have been here for the majority of the last 9 years. Living in both Phnom Penh, the Capital and Siem Reap a Tourist town.

Cons.
Level of competence of GPs. In General, Obviously exceptions.
Local Cambodian Doctors don’t have the level of expertise of NZ GPs.
(See Pros re my Cardiologist, Dentists and Ophthalmologists (Cataracts).
Amount of trash in the Countryside.
No social security. There is no social welfare.
So there are some beggars(who don’t spit at you if you don’t give money) and petty crime/thefts

Pros.
Warm and sunny most days.
April is hot but there are these wonderful things called Aircons.
The people. Friendly and appreciate senior Citizens.
No Ram Raids and seemingly senseless crime
I feel confident walking around the main areas of the city at 1am.
Low living Costs:
INCOME:I can live a comfortable lifestyle on my NZ Super.( I dont have to go back to NZ every 26 weeks.
INTERNET unlimited Internet on my phone for 6 USD/10NZD a month 4g 10-20mbit
RENT:. I live in a modern, western style 1 bedroom(50sqm) apartment with balcony.
Furnished, WIFI, Trash removal, aircon, modern appliances twin hob gas stove, washing machine etc. Cleaning lady comes once a week changes sheets etc. Security.
Siem Reap 210 USD/340NZD a month No Gym No Pool
Phnom Penh 400 USD/650NZD month(includes Gym and Pool)
Electric bill runs from $30USd/50NZD a month to 65USd/105NZD (all depending on AC usage.
Cooler months November to February low AC usage. April October Hot months.

Lack of rules. Cambodians have a very relaxed view on laws and rules they don’t agree with. Which can be a challenge to Rule oppressed Kiwis. Often traffic(Moto Sccoters) going wrong way on one way roads and against traffic on any road. Including highways. But you get used to it. I still find it hilarious.
No Health and safety oppression. Can be a shock to kiwis seeing construction workers wearing flip flops and hanging off buildings with no safety harness.

Police. Are very relaxed, A traffic accident (no injuries. Wills ee policeman as negotiator(not ticket writer) working out culprit and deciding compessantion if any to damaged party. Ie how much to fix the damaged vehicle.
ON the other side of the coin. Local justice is metered out to thievs by local community before perpetrators are dragged of by police(who have been watching said justice)

As mentioned. I have a great Cardiologist (who trained in the USA and Australia.
The eye Doctor that Did both my eye Cataracts.
Luckily I have a Russian doctor I use as a GP(has become a personal friend)

IN Summary. Cambodia society reminds me of the NZ I grew up in in the 50s and 60s. VERY family orientated and she ll be right environment. I think being a Buddhist country helps everything being mellow.
You dont have to learn the local language. English is fine in the City.

    Its on application and has a few requirements. You must be ordinarily resident when you apply and physically present in NZ.
    2 choices.
    Permanently resident in a country.
    Long term travel.
    Payment is based on number of months you have spent in NZ between ages of 20 & 65 (540 months). etc etc etc
    Upside is that no PAYE is deducted from your Super.
    
    The 26 weeks is just for those wanting to go on holiday with no paperwork required.

      However nz does have reciprocity agreements with some countries, and the portability is not so straightforward with some of those.
      
      Notably Australia, where the agreement means you come under their superannuation rules which means if you have any assets you get no super.

  Recently had two crowns done in Siem Reap. Three visits. 1. Prepare tooth get mold, 2. Fit crown. 3. Checkup all was well. Colour matched Ceramic tooth. All up $120USd/$195NZD. each crown/cap
  
  PS. Some dentists you can almost roll up and start the procedure same day. My crowns started the following day from me rolling up.

        The only catch is that you have to fill out and return a form every 6 months to confirm your overseas address. It needs to be witnessed by a local with a stamp. Seems a bit silly when they are actually paying you less than if you were in NZ full time, but there we go.

  Not sure I’d pick Cambodia. My recollection of PP was large dirty city. Siam Reap more village feel but being the gateway to Ankor Wat had its own problems.
  
  It is a consideration but Vietnam, Thailand and to a lesser extent Malaysia also there. Heard varying things about the Philippines.

Did anyone see that puff piece in NZH (from the Woman’s Day) about how the newsreader, Mike McRoberts has had such a tough year in 2023, he’s been learning Te Reo in an intensive course which has kept him away from his new wife – Give me a break🥴.

I’d say that TV3 are planning to go down to one newsreader hence that piece and this is him putting his CV out there. He obviously hasn’t read the room that the majority of NZers have had a gutsful of all the Te Reo stuff Labour/left imposed on us and we don’t want any more of it.

  Apparently, many stations in the US are getting replaced with ‘estimated’ readings as well, and whaddaya know, the ‘estimated’ readings show lots of warming.
  He also shows just how sparse the ground-based stations are, and explains that it wasn’t so long ago that they were basically non-existent in the Southern Hemisphere.
  Oh, then there’s the problem of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, contaminating readings. Roy Spencer has done a fair bit of work showing that a large amount of the apparent warming can be attributed to UHI.
