From Spiked: Canada has revealed the horror of assisted dying

‘Assisted dying’, as it is euphemistically called, is often sold as a more compassionate, civilised alternative to suffering at the end of life. Those still gripped by this delusion should take a look at Justin Trudeau’s Canada, where so-called assisted dying has become a gruesome, state-sanctioned industry. Assisted dying in Canada was initially considered a last resort for terminally ill patients suffering from incurable pain. But in the space of just a few years, euthanasia has been made available to pretty much anyone who is struggling with an illness or a disability. Even Canadians facing homelessness and poverty are feeling compelled to end their lives, rather than ‘burden’ the authorities.

Things are about to get even darker. In a few months time, on 17 March, Canadians will be able to apply for MAID on the grounds that they are suffering from a mental illness (kk: That’s topical!). If this expansion to the MAID programme goes ahead, anyone struggling with a serious mental-health condition may be eligible for either assisted suicide or euthanasia, even if they are not suffering from any physical pain at all. This would include people dealing with drug addiction or other substance-abuse issues.

In less than a decade, Canada has gone from legalising assisted dying in the tightest of circumstances – for adults suffering from terminal illnesses, for whom death was imminent – to offering suicide as an alternative to life’s woes. It amounts to a cautionary tale of the deep inhumanity, the cruel disregard for human life, that is unleashed when you introduce state-assisted death.

All of this is well beyond the bounds of what Canadians were originally told MAID would entail. But stories of homeless, poor, disabled and desperate people accessing a state-assisted death, because it is the ‘easier’ option, are merely the grim, logical consequence of legalising assisted dying in the first place. Assisted dying undermines the value of life. It elevates death as the ultimate solution to suffering. Canada is a warning to the world. This is where the ‘right to die’ leads us.

Many here clapped and cheered when euthanasia was legalised in New Zealand. Others, like me, were mocked for suggesting this was a slippery slope leading towards state-initiated convenience killings. Apparently slippery slopes are a ridiculous, unsupported fearmongering strategy adopted by the inhumane.

With Canada’s current state of expanded MAID fairly evident would anyone care to disabuse me of the notion that New Zealand is headed in precisely the same direction?

    MAID is currently available to those 18+ years. There is a push to include so-called ‘mature minors’ (incl. children as young as 12) in the next revision. The proposal is for it to only apply for terminally ill mature minors, but that constraint was how MAID was originally scoped … and look where that’s gone.

    Of course she is free to disregard the official letter suggesting they help end her life.
    
    And Quebec? In 2022 8% of deaths were people ‘freely choosing’ to have the state kill them.
    
    This might be the freedom you clamour for, but it’s not for me, thanks.

      there is a recent story I heard reported where a lady is getting cancer treatment in the US because she got a letter basically saying “The treatment you need is expensive and we don’t think it will work, so we’re not going to approve it. Have you considered euthanasia”
      
      can’t recall if it was a stream with Viva Frei or Ian Runkle who reported on it.

        Unless you’ve been asleep for the last 4 years, you will have learned that the state is extremely adept at removing choice, nudging, cajoling, leading, and outright bullying towards outcomes that it desires.
        
        To believe that the most vulnerable – the terminally ill, the feeble, the welfare dependent at the bottom of the heap need only flex their ‘rights’ in the face of zero societal pressure to consider assisted death is weapons grade naivety.
        
        This is the point that I have never, and I do mean never seen addressed by the pro-euthanasia crowd. It’s all ‘their rights’ this, and ‘my rights’ but never weighed against the certainty the some humans will always want to rid themselves of other humans who they consider weak or invaluable.

        I don’t think that’s the way the human mind works. I’m probably not going to totally give up on the concept of Free Will, but choices can be manipulated.
        Two paths are open to you but on gets greased and lined with flowers and candy and the other is filled with rocks and grit.

  I have the utmost support for assisted dying in the case of the terminally ill, however, allowing the Mentally Ill to do so is something that I will fight.
  
  In NZ, this bill was presented and passed with safeguards to prevent such incrementalism, and I imagine that the stewards of the Bill (ACT, and David Seymour in particular) would feel the same way that I do.

    No legislation, no matter the included ‘safeguards’ can prevent subsequent changes to that legislation to remove those safeguards and/or widen the scope. This is exactly what happened with MAID in Canada.

        There is a second aspect to the slippery slope – that where doctors no longer have no choice about having to do the deed. I know that it was being floated at one of the hospitals that does terminations of pregnancies that anaesthetists were expected do be involved as part of their “duties”.

  Once you conceed that an individual can choose to be killed by others, and that appointed persons have the power to take innocent life – there really is no handbrake on the slippery slope except shame.
  
  Add the financial incentive to keep the industry going, and you have a recipe for expansion.

    The individual can withdraw consent at any time and indeed needs to continue to re-affirm consent right to the end.
    These Canadian concerns can be addresses when the legislation is reviewed and amended. Any agency that suggests it (e.g. to save money) and involved staff should face prosecution.

  KK – Very important words of caution. I do believe in assisted dying after watching both my father and father in law suffering greatly in their final days. One with aggressive throat cancer, the other with MND.
  
  But the rules around access to this should NEVER go beyond these types of situation. Where painful death is inevitable, no other options are available.
  
  I don’t mean to trivialise mental health, I’ve had a couple of major bouts in my life, but this should never be an option for state assisted dying. Your mental state can and does change. Anyone suffering from serious mental health issue, can and often do end their own life.
  
  We don’t need the state on hand to make this process easier.
  Canada really is a very frightening country and it’s a direction we were apparently headed in under the sociopath Ardern. Hopefully we’ve changed course.

        That doesn’t make it right to deny those that are dying their rights.
        I despise “slippery slope” being used as an excuse for people denying others their rights.
        The fact it makes our job doing what’s right, harder is irrelevant. People’s rights should still be protected.

        KK – have you read the legislation?
        There are pretty significant requirements on the signing off doctors to ensure no pressure is being applied.
        Also note that the eligible people are going to die and are in extreme pain. The societal pressure argument only really comes into play if you relax the requirements which as I stated I am against.

So keep up the good work Tuku Morgan and those on the left that follow you as New Zealander’s don’t want a bar of your race baiting agenda and The Coalition Government just wants to move on and create more wealth for New Zealander’s after the miserable past 6 years of a Labour Government that was out of date and inept everything they touched.

    “The poll registered another significant milestone: for the first time since February 2022, more people think the country is on the “right track” than the “wrong track”. A net 4 per cent of people say the country is heading in the right direction – a massive jump from December when a net 19 per cent of people believed the country was heading in the wrong direction.
    
    That shows a massive course correction in public sentiment which had seen a net 42 per cent of people think the country was heading in the wrong direction by the middle of last year. The media coverage of the Golriz story deserves some scrutiny. Check out the headlines from the mainstream media about Golriz. Notice how sympathetic they are –
Stuff 16th Jan
“Greens co-leaders mark ‘sad day’ as Golriz Ghahraman quits”

Stuff 17th Jan
“One of the Green Party’s greatest talents, and a history-making MP, Golriz Ghahraman’s political career ended after almost inexplicable allegations of theft emerged. ”

“Shaw, Davidson say ex-Green MP Golriz Ghahraman subject to ‘continuous threats’ since entering Parliament.”

Now by contrast check out the headline Sam Uffindell received about an incident that happened years before when he was at school –

The National Party’s culture is under scrutiny…”

Notice the difference. Liberal, non white, female Golriz gets sympathetic treatment. Also there is no suggestion there is a wider issue among the Greens. There is no suggestion that something could be wrong with liberal women like Golriz, Kiri Allan and Tory Whanau? Is there a bad culture on the left? The media would never ask that question!

We find no sympathy for white conservative heterosexual male Uffindell for something that happened years before when he was a school boy. Indeed there is some wider problem with the “culture of the National party” according to the media.

Can we agree the NZ mainstream media wouldn’t know proper journalism and objectivity if they fell over it?

  I have read and listened with interest the number of articles about the Golriz Ghahraman saga, and in particular, the left reframing this as if she is the victim – aided I might add by a complicit MSM.
  We saw no such defence of both Judith Collins and Paula Bennett when they were being ‘attacked’ by left wing activist, and those being supported by the MSM in many cases. And Marama, Paula is a woman of colour.
  We saw the odious Mallard use parliamentary privilege to make a ‘nasty’ comment about Nick Smith’s known mental health issues by telling him ‘To take his pills’. Yet that and the appalling effigy made of Smith and placed outside the Canterbury Regional Council offices was deemed acceptable by the left.
  Any threats of violence, in any form, made against another person is just unacceptable and cannot be condoned.
  The fact Ms Ghahraman has got under the skin of many maybe in a large part due to her misrepresentation of her CV, her attitude towards those on the right of politics, or her belittling of anyone who challenges her point of view; but to use metal health as an excuse for theft isn’t going to wash with most rational thinking kiwis.

    The point people seem to be missing with regards the overt bias of much of the New Zealand media towards the so called progressive left is that they are irrelevant. They preach to the choir.The latest polls show us this, the election result showed us this. Despite years of pro government reporting, censorship by omission and damned right lies Labour suffered a catastrophic defeat. The following immediate attacks from any conceivable angle towards the new government showed many New Zealanders what they may have been ignoring and that was an overtly ideologically captured media that had been working shamelessly in lock step with the previous government and the voices that had been calling it out were indeed correct. The huge success of the movie River of Freedom as opposed to the appalling and otherwise forgettable propaganda piece by Paula Penfold is a good example of my point. The coalition of the boutique left is representative of an ever decreasing pool of indoctrinated graduates, malcontents and fringe opportunists. The media belief that they some how are still held in any regard by the majority of the public is just that a belief and a mis placed one. So let them rip I say. They have climbed onto the chair placed a noose around their own necks and jumped. All that’s going on now is the kicking.

  I would imagine that many commentators on this site have stressful lives and the comments section a vital form of stress relief to unload what is on our minds. Yet the media often talk of right leaning blog sites as some kind of cesspit even blaming GG’s shoplifting on right wing blogs.     De Santis beat Haley by a hair with far less money. They’re both hanging in on off chance that Trump is taken out by nefarious means.
    
    Haley does appear to be the pick of the ‘deep state’ with a lot of her support coming from Democratic donors, whereas De Santis appears to be a genuinely good and principled man, and has done a great job of governing Florida. I hope he ends up on ballot.

  In typical Kayleigh McEnany fashion that’s a half truth.
  
  Trump got the highest vote share in Iowa Republican caucus history *for a non-incumbent President*. For example, in 2020 Trump got 97% vote share.
  
  But typically the Iowa caucus has a lot more than 3 serious candidates in it. For example in 2016 there were 12 serious candidates, Trump got 24% of the vote and came second to Ted Cruz.
  
  But this year’s Iowa caucus just confirmed what we already knew … Trump will be the GOP’s Presidential candidate. No surprise there that he beat (a weak field of) Haley and De Santis.
  
  But there were two interesting things:
  1). Just over 100,000 GOP members voted, which was down from 175,000 or so in 2016. The GOP base is more ardently Trump/MAGA, but there’s less of them.
  2) About 30% of those GOP members who voted said they would not vote for Trump if he was convicted of a crime. Realistically Trump is going to be if not convicted then at least have strong prosecution cases out in public before the election in November.
  
  Trump can’t afford to lose any of the 2020 votes he won. But the signals are that his voter base is thinning. Strong support, but probably not enough of it to win the big election.

      Ukraine clearly aren’t ‘losing’. Though they are currently on the defensive as munition supplies from west are slowed and taking a long time to ramp up. But Russia’s extremely costly winter offensive has equally clearly come to naught – appears to be nearly culminated with cadence of attacks falling away, and only tiny territorial gains at cost of 1000’s of pieces of heavy equipment lost (supplies running out given satellite photos of weapons stores) as well as more than 100k Russian casualties taken in catastrophically bad failed assaults in places like Adiivka.
      
      Russia’s aviation has been largely neutralized by patriot batteries that have downed more than a $billion worth of currently irreplaceable Russian planes in last month (including a couple of precious AWACs over Azov sea yesterday). That has seen the Russian air force withdraw and Russian glide bombs largely stopped. Ukraine will soon be getting a lot of F16’s with potential to launch thousands or even 10’s of thousands of cheap warehoused JDAM glide bombs next few months that is going to make life for even dug in Russians very very difficult (Ukraine has hitherto lacked ability to send a lot of heavy ordinance at Russians).
      
      Russia has also exhausted it’s missile stockpiles with only low monthly production and desperation purchases from north korea and Iran to keep them in the game.
      
      And Europe + others are ramping up production of munitions rapidly now that they see war as likely to extend years into future. They are also delivering more and more advanced and longer range weapon systems to target Russia’s rear operations bases and assets.
      
      On drone front Ukraine is rapidly increasing production – expected to be > 1 million this year, with long range strike capability and AI smarts to increase their lethality. They also have saboteurs operating in Russia to increasingly atritt their highly vulnerable industry and infrastructure. Russia’s industrial base is struggling with sanctions and evaporating skills base.
      
      The war will not be over soon – unless perhaps Putin dies, Russia have shown they can’t take territory and Europe are still being very parsimonious in their support – but that would change if they thought Ukraine was in real danger of collapse – EU would likely ramp up support dramatically in such case, with a lot more weapons, perhaps even direct involvement in fighting.
      
      I still expect Ukraine to take back Crimea Zaphorisia and Kherson and eventual armistice with Russia holding East Ukraine. But not until 2025-26. 2024 will see little to no movement.

        Anyway, according to your view:
        1. Europe (NATO) are ramping up and have saboteurs operating in Russia.
        2. Russia is about to be bombed with 10’s of thousands of NATO JDAM glide bombs.
        3. Ukraine is currently producing 1 million+ new smart drones that are very lethal.
        4. Russian missile stocks are virtually depleted, and their military-industrial complex is on its knees due to the sanctions.
        
        Now add into that, Putin is facing an election in March and he is under massive attack from NATO/Ukraine…….and he has over 5,500 nukes including hyper-sonic missiles.
        
        What would he do???

America is over extended, there are many reasons that they can’t do the sort of adventures they did in the early 2000s. It is difficult to be categorical on such things, but I believe the biggest problem facing NZ (and maybe the world) is the deliberate agenda run by the mainstream media. You might want to challenge this by saying its education, welfare, Māori issues, climate change etc but many of those problems would go away, or lessen significantly if the media was not so perniciously biassed.

There are endless examples – the treatment of Ghahraman v Uffindel, endless reference to unusual weather irrespective whether it actually happens softening us up for climate change policies, the endless attacks on Luxon before he can get to run his agenda, Māori language thrust down our throat….. there are daily illustrations of an evil plot to influence.

The media has inordinate power and they know it. They also know that the many attempts, even KiwiBlog or Reality Radio can only pull relatively small audience support. Why?? Because we are turning out brain washed or uninterested kids from schools run by the same lefties.

The common denominator is the universities. They are now a hotbed of communists and left wing lecturers who have never had to earn a living in a rough world. The humanities dominate. the sciences are in the back seat. Woke liberals run the whole teaching/learning scene.

Could it be changed? Could balance be restored? On many days I despair. The scales have tipped too far. Right wingers and conservatives are busy individuals who shy away from “organising” and campaigning. Cycles come and they go but things look very bleak right now.

  Universities have been very left wing for a long time, and have been accused of corrupting the next generation for just as long. They have never succeeded. There are a couple of newer problems though.
  
  1. There are many more people going to university now, most of whom should be in work or apprenticeships instead. Certainly we should fix that by making funding scholarship-based not universal.
  
  2. We should take teacher education away from universities because they are doing it so badly. Teachers colleges are not the answer either. Probably it can be something that just happens in schools as a type of apprenticeship.
  
  The issue with the media is there is no money in it, which means journalists are low paid, which in turn means people with strong analytical and reasoning skills now tend to choose better paying jobs elsewhere. I don’t have an answer to that other than just letting legacy media die off and see what springs up to replace it.

    The big difference between now and the past unfortunately is that all Government departments have been told to treat arts degrees as superior (due to their supposed ability to think outside the box), allowing them to justify filling all the bureaucracies with brainwashed ideologues.     Unless or until that perverse incentive is fixed – removing professional reward for tendentious woke sophistry – academia will never correct.
    
    Really the only fix is to stop funding their idiocy. It is decades past producing anything of value to the world, the environment within universities punishes dissent – like a woke seminary, with naive, ignorant and mostly female students who prioritize peer acceptance over truth not able to push back against the stupid being forced down their gullets.   It’s been like that for decades, though I only truly realised this after the first Gulf War.
  
  I gullibly applauded in January 1991 when we got reports of cruise missiles flying down the streets of Baghdad destroying buildings and killing people. Took me a while to wean myself off the habit, but certainly since the earliest days of the covid fraud, I haven’t watched more than a couple of hours of terrestrial TV.
  I check headlines from time to time to see what the latest narrative is, that’s about it.
  
  More and more I’ve decided to focus on what I can see right in front of me, I can’t influence anything else in any meaningful way.
  Life has certainly become a lot more simple and pleasurable.

  The light at the end of the tunnel, IMO, is a few years away (maybe even 10yrs). Balance will ultimately be re-stored as reality kicks in. The money will ultimately run out (almost there now).
  
  However, most of the world is about to go through a massive phase of chaos as all this nuttiness implodes around us. Global debt, Global Boiling scam, even more extreme wokism, race riots/wars, wide spread regional/global wars, possibly another pandemic scam,…. who knows exactly, but things can not remain as they are without a big collapse of somesort.
  
  Then we get a new phase of returning to some sort of sanity. This is how it always happens. Typically in 80-90 year cycles. 80 years ago we had WWII, as one example.

  I think a lot of it is that humans, and human society, are designed for adversity. Over the last 50 years it has got to be too easy. As a result we’re out there trying to “solve” problems that don’t exist and are creating more problems.
  
  University used to be a thing of scarcity. People either went there to learn a useful craft or the very rich might send their kids there for a useless classical education. Nowadays everyone and their dog goes to university. Few have the capability of pursuing real productive studies so we see the rise of useless degrees.

Exhibit A, in the early 80s in Whananaki a bushman uses his life savings to buy a bush block to log to fund his retirement, the government bans logging and renders his investment close to worthless.
You may argue that cutting trees is morally wrong and that there are selective logging plans people can use to get income from forest blocks, but in effect the government just stole his life savings.

So again a couple of tourists have been hassled while traveling around the country. Not long ago I myself spent 2 weeks campervaning around the South Island and never once had a problem with anything they speak about. Nobody ever came into the campgrounds we stayed at and smashed up our campervan and the staff and other guests were always extremely accommodating and overly polite.

      June 2016 saw a report released damning the council’s planning and design of the changes to Island Bay’s streets, and recommending a review of the cycleway.
      
      At the time Wade-Brown said there was plenty of political will for spending money on better cycleways, but when it came down to the “nitty-gritty” of delivering them, the city could be doing better.

My very good friend, a fit and healthy, active surfer and golfer, died just before Xmas. He was diagnosed with extremely aggressive pancreatic cancer. He’s one of those who reluctantly took the jab to save his business.

I cannot prove the jab was or wasn’t responsible, but until we start investigating and checking each time their is a ‘sudden death’ there will always be a suspicion. I certainly am convinced it is responsible. But it is beyond time for the NZ government to acknowledge there are alarm bells and serious investigation needs to be had soon.

In the meanwhile, stop bloody pushing this shit as ‘safe and effective’ – it is totally impossible for them to claim this with evidence. It isn’t true.

  Pancreatic cancer is aggressive. A friend of mine died from it within eleven months of diagnosis. Doctor thought he was crook with something else so it was a huge shock.

    Cancer rates have spiked across many countries post-vaccination campaigns. It is illogical (arguably criminal) to turn a blind eye and not question a link between a neo-jab that contains DNA contamination, and a sudden spike in cancer, heart attacks, etc.

For what it s worth I think we need to consider what pathology looks like when discussing Golriz.

But first, let’s look at what healthy looks like.

Healthy looks like being responsible for one’s own actions.
Owning mistakes, learning from them and moving on.
It involves curating who you associate with to the extent you cut out any bad influences.
It means striving for honesty and openess in your transactions.
It also requires an element of gratitude – the opposite of this being entitlement.

So we have a person who is pathologised not only by a sense of entitlement and lack of ownershop of her actions, but who is supported in this by associating with others who exhibit similar traits.

The logical conclusion – based on Golriz’s actions and the kinds of support she has received is that the Green Party is a pathologised organisation.

This will explain why it cannot work out how to extricate itself from the tangled web it is weaving for itself. It simply is not functioning in a healthy way.

This is not to criticise, rather to critique. They would all do better to own the problems and develop ways to over come them rather than trying to plaster over them with more inventions.

Unless The Green Party can do this, there is little hope for Golriz, as a person if she has any desire to remedy her current problems.

It would be like the Artful Dodger asking Fagin for personal development advice.

A meteorological drought could be possible in the interior South Island if the current hot, dry conditions continue, Niwa says.

The latest Niwa Hotspot Report, issued last week, says the long term outlook through to early February is for very dry soil conditions affecting parts of both islands, along with a risk for meteorological drought to develop in the interior South Island.

Niwa meteorologist Seth Carrier said the forecaster had modelled three scenarios for the next month – one for dry conditions, one for normal and one for wet conditions.

Local paper still available but no link to death notices.
Why would this be?
ASFAIK family members/funeral directors pay to have death notices published.
Because in a way, they are little different to paid advertisements.
So why would they be excluded from the on-line paper?

  Years ago I shared a London flat with a girl from Auckland, well educated plenty of money, no need to work. Every day she would go out shoplifting “ just for fun and excitement”. She was caught several times but just kept right on going, she became addicted to it. Her bedroom was like Aladdin’s cave.
  In the Summer she bought a share in a VW Combi van and went on a shoplifting spree around Europe, my now wife watched her in action saying she had “nerves of steel”. Shoplifting is a twisted mindset – why pay when you can just walk off with what you want.

    When we were away over Christmas, I went shopping at the local Countdown. God only knows what came over me, but when I went thru the self-checkout, I knowingly scanned the Jazz apples in as being ‘Rose’, which were half the price!
    
    It wasn’t until I drove out of the carpark, that the realization hit…. I’d actually gotten away with it. The feeling verged on orgasmic!!

It’s amazing that white cis males have been able to influence these strong independent, sassy women so easily. Just don’t ask about taking personal responsibility or accountability.

Sadly these role models are demonstrating to young woman that victimhood is the path to follow, it explains any bad behaviour and is a much better pathway than being strong and independent, responsible and accountable. I wonder what the old style feminists would say about these weak women and if this state is what they intended ?.

Trump $2.32, Biden $3.10, Haley $17, Michelle Obama $18.50 and Newsom $29.
Haley had been about $11 six weeks ago, got as short as $7.50 but has drifted in the market. The gap between Trump and Biden has widened, but I regret I am unable to provide exact figures.
I’ll give it four weeks and see what trend has occurred.

  It appears from the Stuff article that these are initial charges:
  
  In a publicly released statement, police did not name the person charged, but said it related to an investigation that was “subject to ongoing public interest”. They said it related to incidents at a Ponsonby retailer that allegedly occurred on 21 and 23 December 2023.
  
  The alleged Wellington incident (and any others) haven’t yet resulted in police charges.

I have a Honda HRV which uses less than 7lit of petrol/100km
The price of a litre of petrol includes 85c excise tax, which I understand is the equivalent of road user charge. So that’s about $60/1000km
The new RUC for fully electric cars will be $76/1000km from 1-April

  7 lit of petrol equates to about $21.00 per hundred km’s or $210.00 per 1000 km’s.
  
  So a RUC of $76.00 per 1000 km’s equates to about $7.60 per 100 km’s.
  
  The EV still seems to be the financial winner, especially when you consider the low maintenance costs.

    Does that maintenance cost factor in the cost of battery replacement which may well become more expensive as their material/transport cost accumulate. Plus the chance of a battery disposal levy as the numbers increase those increased vehicle sales need new batteries. Obviously some of the vehicle manufacturers have done the math and looked at TRUE costs for the life of the vehicle from the drawing board to the eventual crusher. The clean car subsidy was just a starter as other motorists were already being leaned on in an overt form of additional subsidies. It is a bit like how the second hand vehicle imports killed off the seven local vehicle manufacturers.

I don’t understand what all the handwringing is in the press. The Green Party spokesperson for Justice was off on a holiday overseas for Christmas, and wanted some posh items to impress the people she was going to meet, so she nicked them. That’s why the two offences took place close together and just before her departure. Had stress been a contributing factor, you would expect to have seen the offending taking place over an extended period, commensurate with the stressors being there for some time, which is what the Greens have claimed. It’s just plain old greed, and coming from someone who would tell others how to behave themselves, it is hypocrisy of the worst type, worthy not just of a resignation from Parliament, but also condign punishment for letting the country down.

    After serving the maximum sentence if found guilty of alleged crime/s for what might prove to be more than a oncer. There is a fair chance things will improve in the House after the recent bad apples are not tainting the barrel.     Right Maggy and it is obviously advanced COPD and is easily recognized by others who suffer from the same condition and captured by good quality mic. The downside of being a dedicated smoker and much more common than many realize but no cause for panic. He will cope with this first term of the new Government as he will know how to pace himself and is a master of delegation. He may yet prove to be the most significant Maori figure of this century if he helps stop the native rot pushed by Labour.
