‘It’s a deliberate strategy to erase us’ – Whanganui iwi prepare for national hui
Te Korowai o Wainuiārua chairperson Aiden Gilbert said a group would travel from the central North Island to represent the three iwi Uenuku, Tamakana and Tamahaki.
He said the iwi collective’s main concerns were the dialling back of Resource Management Act reforms in which Māori seemed to have “more say”, and impacts on freshwater policy Te Mana o Te Wai.

Many other examples now set in law suppose Maori have a greater affinity with water than non-Maori.
This may have contributed or allowed there to currently be te Puna, a Maori Adivisory Council that presides over Taumata Arowai, the Water Regulator.

The establishment of Taumata Arowai is one of three pou, pillars, of the Government’s Water Services Reform Programme (the other pou are regulatory and service delivery reform). A dedicated water services regulator will be essential to provide safe and reliable drinking water and improved delivery of wastewater and stormwater.

Water is of course the essence of life to non-Maori to – a couple of days without it has life threatening consequences, like death in some cases, longer without it makes that result inevitable.
Maori, through te Puna and Traumata Arowai have their position of power in this regard, written into current law.

  ‘Erase us’. ‘Destroy maori’. The use of genocidal language, in the context of what is primarily a debate around the paramount use of Te Reo names for NZ government departments ….this is a grave insult to all New Zealanders. But we seem to be such a milquetoast and complacent nation that we just accept the ongoing lurches towards extremism and eventual anarchy like a bunch of frogs sitting in a pot while the water gradually gets hotter.
  A couple of examples of what might constitute a genuine – but not genocidal – assault on Maoridom would probably look something like this –
  
  – A complete ban on the speaking and teaching of Te Reo.
  
  – Maori ownership of lakes and rivers overturned & restored to ownership of the people of New Zealand.
  
  The government isn’t proposing to do anything that would represent an ‘attack on Maoridom’. But not one *mainstream* commentator seems to have the guts or the honesty to call out the hysterical over-reaction that is coming from the usual stirrers and dividers amongst the maori elite and separatist agitators.

    It is getting worse, for example, on predominantly feminist RNZ.
    Luxon will not crawl to them like Ardern did, and will only talk to them when he is ready – not whenever they want him

    But they consider that they still run everything.
    Will be some hard lessons yet media.

  If the water systems are a technological and management issue, then the Iwi will have to convince the public why Māori have greater technological and managerial skill than pakeha.
  If it’s a spiritual or metaphysical issue (which I do believe is important) then the Iwi will have to concede that the government is a spiritual power that can change such things.
  If the Iwi are being honest here (and I believe only some of them are) then they are trying to sit between two stools, saying that their mana (honor) can only be maintained by the government giving them a fat slice of a lucrative contract and a huge dose of managerial power.
  This isn’t going to fly. people know the difference between maintaining your spiritual beliefs and getting a big piece of political power.
  Not giving someone a fat slice of cake is not the same as starving someone to death.

    But big news in Britain, they had 20cm of snow and – 10C temperatures. Ok well that’s just the weather you say?
    
    Well on Sunday I watched live an American football game played in Kansas City in a temperature of – 19C. That’s the fourth coldest temperature at a NFL game ever!
    There was also record cold in Iowa as they headed to the presidential primary of – 25C! Coldest primary ever according to CNN.
    
    So what’s the deal? Is climate change a hoax?

      I’m not gonna try and argue with you because it sounds like it’s be like wrestling with a pig, but I suggest you do some googling about how melting ice in the Arctic is having a devastating effect on the airstream and redirecting cold air from the Arctic further south. It’s one of those perverse outcomes – where warming in one place can cause that place’s still cold (remember warming of 20C from -100C is still bloody cold) air to move somewhere else.
      
      So to summarise, climate change isn’t a hoax. Just like one rainy day doesn’t mean summer is over.

  Personally I would like to see commercial fishing ended. Farming is great , all power to the farmers, fish and mussel farming I think can be great but the industrial harvesting of wild animals in my opinion, and that’s all it is, is obscene.

    I believe in commercial fishing of wild animals but the quotas are way too high and unsustainable. The people responsible for setting the quotas need to be held to account.
    
    An example is crayfish. Fishermen are required to keep logs of how many traps they place and catch quantities. The are setting more traps than ever and catching less.

    It would be more accurate to call it The Ministry of De-Regulation.
    
    If Seymour does what he says, runs a full and proper cost/benefit analysis over any government regulation of his choice, then he will ditch almost all existing Govt interference.
    
    When you properly analyse down to 3rd, 4th, 5th level consequences you would ditch all the controlling muck the central planners have cooked up over the years.

        Riffer NZ is a basket case for all but about 20% of the population on many many fronts. This becomes glaringly obvious when one moves to Aus (which is by no means perfect) and learns the ropes there. The “ease of doing business” metric appears to be some kind of vested-interests turd polishing stunt. Just like Melbourne being long touted as “the most livable city in the world” (which was always total BS, except purportedly for the wealthy business traveler, though I doubt even that!).

        There was the Loopy Rules Review under the last National Government. Huge number of submissions, and the review group travelled the country running sessions where people could make an oral submission.
        
        I submitted, written and oral, and at the well attended session I attended there were some amazingly awful stories of red tape and (usually) giving up.
        
        Start there, invent a new wheel later.

  CBDC’s are being cooked up in most countries as we speak. This is the ultimate controlling tool for the central planning freaks because these are all being designed as ‘programmable’ currencies which means someone (somewhere) can set the rules of how it is used. Just imagine if a Labour/Greens/Maori govt was setting the rules!!!!!
  
  And it will be very difficult (if not impossible) not to be part of this as these will only work if they are issued as the only valid currency (most people given a choice would not use a CBDC).
  
  And don’t get sucked in by the Govt PR/BS that is on its way from the central planners. They will tell you why CBDC’s are a good thing – resist these as much as you can.

So the driveway machete attacker who maimed his victim gets off prison-free because the dudge is worried he might be forced to join a gang if he was sent to prison.

Given the trajectory this bloke is on, I suspect joining a gang would probably be career enhancing.

But it does also make one wonder who is in control of corrections. Why do we, as a society, just shrug our shoulders and hand over control of the prisons to the gangs?

How about this: If you want to get rid of gangs in society (which is harder to control), then first stamp out gangs in the environment that is easier to control (ie. the prison system).

Corrections needs to reestablish who is top dog. That might mean some very “tough love”. But now gangs are running these state funded gang pads. They are in control of the correction staff. They can get pretty much any contraband they want through extortion of the corrections staff.

This corruption leads over into the whole criminal world and from there into society. They run the prisons therefore they’re effectively immune to the cops and judiciary. Just offend. Take what you want, vandalise what you want, act brutally.

If we’re allowing gangs to run prisons to the extent that we can’t send violent offenders there, then the system is fundamentally broken. This needs some serious fixing.

Does Luxon have the balls to take this on?

Perhaps it is too hard and nobody has the stomach for it. Perhaps Cindy’s strategy of working with the gangs and, essentially, bringing them into the tent, is going to be continued.

        Sorry krazykiwi, what past generations paid in taxes is dwarfed by the value of what pensioners receive in super, healthcare, palliative care, residential care subsidiaries etc. today. For example, most of the healthcare we will typically ever receive in our lifetimes is towards the end and very, very expensive but subsidised by other people’s taxes. Most retirees today haven’t fully paid for their pension in advance through income taxes paid in the past. It’s just a massive income transfer from the current younger working population.     This is all pretty standard Ayn Rand Libertarianism from the 1950s and 60s. It has some strengths but also some weaknesses. The problem is time scale. An individual acting in their own best interests over the short term doesn’t always provide the best outcomes over the long term. a parent charging over their own children to escape from the burning building first is acting in their own best interests. Trying to make sure the kids get out first could kill you. What’s better over the long term?
    I see Milei is in negotiations with the British government over the status of the Falkland Islands. that could be interesting. How does that get sorted under strictly libertarian principals? I guess you could offer to buy them out but what if London won’t sell or the islanders object?

After the long years of Ardern-adoration by the media, they have now decided to make every story they possibly can as negative as possible about Luxon and National.
Both major channels last night ran negative stories. One even showed Judith Collins eating salad, I am not sure why. They were obsessed with the catering.
TV3 clearly regards the Tainui hui as far more important than a new government and lambasted Luxon for not going cap-in-hand to render obeisance.
The cartoonists of course run their usual Labour-luvvie lines, totally ignoring the fertile ground for satire of Golriz’s alleged stealing, Hipkins’s plunge in the polls, the scandal of empty state houses and the 12 billion dollar debt of Kainga Ora.
We are in for a depressing few years from our biased media. I just hope Luxon ignores them, doesn’t try to win them over and forges ahead with the change we are all longing for.

    The increased debt is mostly because Kianga Ora built 13,000 houses.
    This is one area where National needs to continue to build at least some Kianga Ora homes. The last National government built virtually no new Kianga Ora homes even though there was significant population growth. That cost them politically. The current National government needs to learn from that and build a credible number of Kianga Ora homes. Which will be less than 2,000 per year, but probably needs to be around 1,000. In fact during the election campaign PM Luxon committed National to continuing to build state houses.
    Yes it is OPM, but isn’t that true of all government spending.

      The house supply problem could be quickly fixed by getting rid of the RMA (and no replacement), along with abandoning all the silly regs that make the cost to build a house out of reach for a bunch of Kiwis (eg woke H&S, minimum wage rates, etc, etc).
      
      People know how to build houses. People know how to buy & sell houses. We don’t need the central planners involved at all.

        Generally the Key administration got most things right. In fact the size of the state reduced from 33% of GDP to 29% which I thought was pretty impressive. But not building any new state rentals (net) was a blind spot and cost National. If you think I am a socialist then I guess you must think the PM is also a socialist. Since he thinks some state house building is desirable.
        In my view Luxon has a pretty good sense of the appropriate balance between private and public.
        I see that Hooton is continuing his attack on the Key administration saying it was “do nothing”.
        How about the 2010 tax cuts, the partial privatisation of the electricity companies, freeing up planning and regulation, major infrastructure build (5 major motorway projects, fibre, CRL). Plus dealing with the GFC and the Christchurch earthquake. Faster growth than Australia for a number of years, with the consequence that the brain drain pretty much stopped.
        Hooton has an apparent beef with Key and English which means he is not taking an objective view.

      13,000 homes sounds great, but how many additional state houses do we have? Some of these were replacements rather than net new. And how much did each house cost to build? That level of debt implies almost $1 million per house, surely given the economies of scale these could be built more cheaply?

        Half of the social housing waiting list are eligible for a 1 beddie. Most of those are single people, a few couples – none with children. So if new builds follow that demand, plenty will be small and probably medium to high density. Lower cost or should be. It used to be different back in the day when most households waiting / housed were families.
        
        Have to wonder where those single people lived back in the day and what has changed. Talking about many thousands of people, not a few here and there.

    My solution; give every electorate MP a yearly discretionary $1 million media support budget to allocate as they see fit, enough to cover 5 high quality journalists apiece, a few hundred in total, distributed all throughout NZ’s regions. No other govt support of media. It would quickly restore balance to media, and would likely see non-conventional outlets (like blogs) supported too.

        When left wing govt is in power they throw endless money at their propagandizing media mates, when right wing is in power they change nothing. We clearly need a fundamental and enduring rebalancing to stop the insane left wing bias.
        
        Democracy needs diligent and unflinching media to interrogate government and (fairly) inform the voters, but internet has taken away the advertising support that used to pay for it. A free (and even handed) press remains an essential need for functional democracy, and needs to be paid for somehow. All the signs are that it is failing commercially in NZ with continual shrinkage, and threatened closure of many outlets.
        
        We could argue about the means and quantum of funding, but I don’t think NZ media survives without taxpayer funding of some sort.

The USA Federal Government is by far the biggest central State planning/control organisation the planet has ever seen – and it’s growing at a fast pace. It is now clearly a bloated socialist regime.

Some numbers:
-The US federal government spent 6.13 trillion dollars in 2023. That figure is larger than the GDP of every nation on the entire planet except for the U.S. and China.

-More than 70 million Americans are on Social Security.

-More than 65 million Americans are on Medicare.

-More than 81 million Americans are on Medicaid.

-More than 41 million Americans are on food stamps.

Since 1980, the size of the U.S. national debt has gone from 1 trillion dollars to 34 trillion dollars (that’s USD, so about $56 trillion NZD).

The interest cost of this debt will soon approach $1Trillion pa. So even if they fleeced all ‘the rich pricks’ and stole all their money, they still won’t be able to pay the interest cost….

(The combined net worth of some of America’s most prominent billionaires, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Ken Griffin, Mark Cuban, Ray Dalio, and George Soros, adds up to approximately $726 billion according to data compiled by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.)

The USA is a key part of the global monetary system. This house of cards ponzi scheme will one day fall, and we are all part of that ponzi.

BTW – the EU, UK, Japan and China, etc all have their own very similar monetary ponzi schemes. All connected to the bigger US one. Some call this ‘Modern Monetary Theory’ – but this is not a theory and it is not ‘Modern’. The same siht has happened throughout history, and it has failed every time.

Just as one idea, there’s a library with computers, engage a volunteer or two to help with an order. Local 10 year olds would be fine.

I see a story out of Ponsonby whereby a local is complaining that a public toilet is being used on a frequent basis for cottaging, during daylight hours. No thought is given to the possibility of children walking in while these deviants are in the act. Apparently the Police are disinclined to act.

Perhaps that section of the gay ‘community’ should fund raise for a purpose-built structure, instead of indulging in their disgusting public behaviour.

An observation on current evolutionary pressures on people in the west:

We are selecting for smarter men (hypergamy) and dumber women (they are the ones who have most kids), as more intelligent women chose not to have kids for various reasons. I read somewhere that on current trends 50% of western women will be childless by 2030

Intelligence is highly genetic, and has some sex-chromosome linked expression. So over time this will move the female bell curve to the left, making women on average dumber, and male bell curve to the right, making men on average smarter, increasing sexual dimorphism in intelligence.

Thus the consequence of woke misandry is women (over long term) end up dumber than men on average. This trend will certainly please feminists.

  Na, its just a selection for stupider people overall, no reason to think that the woman are selecting mating partners based on higher intelligence. The norm thought history has been for women to select on standing within a society, which is probably still true. Currently (in the west) we just have three divergent societies occupying the same geographical space, loosely we could call them the ferals, who have lots of kids to a number of different males who have high standing in the scumbag world – gang members, etc, the career virtue signallers, who have very few kids, but enable the successful breeding of the ferals and could be viewed as the preening ones in rat utopia, and the productive public who still have 2.1 kids in a monogamist relationship and produce something of value. Read into that what you will, but I would not draw the conclusion that there is selection for more intelligent males….

  Just looking at averages is an extremely broken thing to do. All that shows you is the average. ie the centroid of the Bell Curve you talk about. That isn’t where the action is.
  
  What has been observed is that girls (and women in general) are on average better at high IQ testing subjects like mathematics at school. ie. Their Bell Curive is slightly to the right.
  
  But the shape of these Bell Curves is different: the girls are more clustered around the centre while the boys’ curve is flatter and thus has more outliers.
  
  The shape is important because top end mathematicians etc are at the extremes. The boys’ curve is flatter so they have a few more at the extremes (both the very stupid and the very clever).
  
  Thus, when you look for your engineers and such, you will inevitably end up with more boys.
  
  Similarly when you look for the lower IQ end of the spectrum for manual jobs, you will also find more boys.

  Firstly, the offspring will inherit the genetic intelligence traits of its parents. It is not sex dependant. A high intelligence male mating with a low intelligence female will create offspring somewhere in the middle (an average). There will be no difference in the intelligence of the boys and girls.
  
  Secondly, the scenario we are facing is more like the movie “Idiocracy”. We are selecting for and encouraging the breeding of low IQ individuals. Full stop. This is a feature of socialism. Naturally, the success of an individual and their ability to reproduce is directly tied to their ability to succeed. In other words, naturally, more intelligent people will be richer and more able to support a family. Socialism reverses this. Taking all of the resources from successful people and diverting it to low IQ, incapable people. Thus providing low IQ people with the resources to reproduce well beyond their natural means.

      Actually most of the people mentioned directly in the treaty are now dead. Certainly Queen Victoria is, as well as the Chiefs of the confederation. The treaty mentions the chiefs and their families but doesn’t directly make provisions for their descendants, other than those implied by the common law inheritance process in British law.
      It is certainly the case that everyday New Zealanders no longer have the same rights as British subjects, we need a visa if we want to work in the UK, but I’ve never beard anyone complain about that aspect.

Met Service thankfully seems to have changed their web site back to mainly English. They have even dropped their obnoxious “gotcha” trick whereby if you clicked on a map location in English it changed to the Maori alternative.
