As Tuku Morgan must know that Seymour seeks to only Clarify the Treaty to actually reflect its original translation, and a consequence would be to derail a few carriages that have been added to the “gravy Train” in the last five decades – culminating probably in the selected Maori response to He Paupau which was too hard perhaps for Willie Jackson to water down, so it was hidden on a shelf someplace because the Election caught up with him, or he allowed it to.

But as a response, now that the National Coalition should have access to that draft, it could be revealed as evidence of what Seymours seeks to eliminated.

And he needs to restate very simply and clearly what he wants, now that he has centre court promised him at Waitangi.

And as I started with Morgan, he must be in contact with his Brethren in the North – since one of the post-Kingi Hui aa Oa processes was to light four fires, one to smoke out the north, or they sent an email – those who intend to incite violence on boat-ramps for the decades old fishing competition, the Brother up there can not be as ignorant as his views suggest (and as co-iwi Shane Jones too bluntly points out) and is part of what seems a plan to wilfully start some violence, which Jacinda’s “Christchurch Call” must be conflicted in drawing public attention to.

So Seymour has about two weeks to simplify his aspirations into a bumper-sticker message before the confusion of possible violence wipes his voice out.

  Yvette: There is what can only be a concerted campaign by the MSM to mislead the public by referring to Seymour’s proposal as “a referendum on the treaty” when it is of course nothing of the sort.
  
  Stuff this morning has an opinion piece – to be fair it is labelled as opinion which is a nice change for Stuff – which is headed “We need to defend the treaty”. Hidden away in the 750 odd word piece there is an acknowledgment that Seymour is not proposing the referendum on the Treaty itself, but the overall message of the piece is that the very existence of the treaty is under threat. This is deliberate misinformation by the MSM

    Sent this request to Audrey Young. Can’t help but to ask:
    
    David Seymour has been clear about the principles bill being to firm up what the principles are. Parliament has never directly instructed anyone to go and create said principles. But they exist as we know arising less formally via various agencies.
    
    What would be useful for the current public discussion that is in progress is to have the current principles published with a note on what they are not.
    
    To be provocative, and in some respects balanced you could also ask the opposition leader and perhaps the PM what they think the principles are. Certainly the opposition leader as they made more use of the principles more than any previous government.
    
    If neither has a good handle on what they are then it does suggest a more formal discussion is required which is our select committee process.

In 2021 Hungary passed a law that increased the penalties for pedophilia and prohibited LGBTQ propaganda being targeted at school children. The vote was 157 for, and 1 against.

Today the EU, at Ursula von der Leyen’s direction, is withholding thirty-two billion dollars in already-allocated pandemic funding unless Hungary agrees to embrace the LGBTQ agenda, ditches its 2021 anti-pedophile law, and lets in more African migrants. Here is how Hungarian president Viktor Orbán responded in a radio interview last week:

“The only thing we can say, very calmly, as a reply is that there is not enough money in the world to force us to let migrants in. There is not enough money in the world for us to allow them to take away our country. We will not create conditions like we see in Western European states — the threat of terrorism, crime, I could go on and on.”
“And there is not enough money in the world for which we would put our children or grandchildren in the hands of LGBTQ activists. That’s impossible”

Mr Luxon, please look and learn. This is how a principled head of state deals with demands from cultural terrorists and extortionists.

No prevarication.

No compromise.

No appeasement.

Just truth and strength.

    So what is the implication of what you are saying? That “dictators” and “Putin lap dogs” as you call them are the ones with the best policies for the integrity and maintenance of their societies?
    
    When people get their knickers in a twist in response to my harsh critique of “liberal democracy,” they are ipso facto asserting the superiority of mass immigration, demographic replacement, the LGBTQI agenda and other key features of “liberal democracy” in 2024. Because that is what liberal democracy entails.
    
    The argument seems to be as long as we are “free” to be as degenerate as we like and to sustain the entrenched orthodox liberal worldview that has completely undercut the once great West, then we are better off than living under a “muh authoritarian dictatorship” that believes in standards of decency and acting in the sovereign national interest.

Here is an extract, noting that many front line public sector employees are not included in the number eg teachers, nurses, police. … the number of public service “managers” has increased from 5333 in 2017, to 8059 in 2023 (up 51 per cent); “policy analysts” from 2633 to 3949 (up 50 per cent); and ‘information professionals’ from 5437 to 9426 (up 73 per cent)

Meanwhile, on the wireless this morning the PSA’s National Secretary Kerry Davies said the public service actually needs to be increased. Because climate change and aging population. I suppose they would say that, but not sure they have read the (rest of) the room.

This is something Luxon should view but I doubt if he will. It is 30 minutes long. NZ now has 2.2% EVs and hybrid vehicles. That means if an EV catches fire it is not likely that another EV will be next to it. However, as the percentage of EVs increase then it is more likely another EV will be next to it.

Imagine if the percentage increases to 20% and a few of them catch fire in the Sky Tower garage or on the interisland ferry.

  New Zealand’s largest car ferry operator, Interislander, say they are well prepared for an electric car fire.
  With electric vehicle demand only growing in New Zealand and the risks of EV fires on full display following the Felicity Ace incident, Kiwi car ferries are as prepared as ever for the worst.
  “The growing number of EVs and the risks associated with them is something KiwiRail has carefully considered,” Interislander Executive General Manager Walter Rushbrook told NZ Autocar.
  The Felicity Ace cargo ship caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean on February 16.
  Onboard were nearly 4000 brand-new Volkswagen cars, including several EVs, which complicated the fire as their lithium-ion batteries became almost impossible to extinguish.
  Fire crews couldn’t isolate the EV batteries and attend to them with the necessary specialist equipment.
  The vessel sunk a few days after the fire was finally put out.

    Problem is, none of the “measures” listed by Kiwirail will actually extinguish a LiLO fire.
    the ONLY viable solution would be to park all EVs in an area where they can be pushed over the side by a big forklift with a steel shield. They will continue to burn under the ocean in Cook Strait.

        1. EV manufacture is worse for the environment than ICE’s, and far more resource intensive
        2. EV’s use marginal electricity supply capacity so therefore this is almost always generated from coal or gas – so their entire premise is blatant lies
        3. EV’s provide the greenwashing left with another ‘story’ to preach and brainwash with.
        
        If ‘the market’ does eventually find alternatives that overcome obvious flaws in the current EV plan, then I’m all for it……when/if it eventuates.

        Grunter in NZ fossil fuel is used for peaking, typically evenings and mornings. EVs tend to be being used then and if possible like to use the cheaper overnight electricity, more usually clean.

  EV fies in confined spaces present 2 major problems.
  1. The fire can spread easily
  2. EV batteries contain colbalt. Cobalt fumes are extremely toxic and even a few breaths of smoke with cobalt fumes can bugger your lungs permanently

Unfortunately as predicted, the treaty has turned into a talk fest that becomes more forensic by the day.

Seymour should have honed his cost slashing skills by quietly defunding the thousands of maori committees and socalled welfare organisations.

All he had to say was payments are temporarily suspended pending audit.

After a year of that most of the scammers would have headed for the hills leaving not only far fewer antagonists, but those remaining would be suitably chastened after seeing the fate of their fellow scammers.

Instead of preparing their own battlefield and weakening their enemy, the government is letting the activists choose the locations, form the majority of attendees and, to cap it off, claim government funding to pay for it all.

Then there’s the media standing back and laughing at the stupidity of the government giving them another Christmas .

        I fail to understand that those on the Jobseeker benefit can stay on there for more than 3 months. They should be told to go to work at a place looking for employees with 40 kms. of their home. If they don’t, the payment stops, and will not be re-instated.

        Drone there are orchardists on the Hastings City boundary looking for workers – hardly the boondocks.
        
        Plus most orchards and packhouses around Hawkes Bay will pick up workers from home and drop them off after work.
        
        However historically (since mid 80’s that I know of) said jobseeker and dole people will do anything to get the sack.
        
        The majority do not want to work – they are malingerers and dole bludgers.

      If the immigrants do these jobs then why are the businesses concerned always crying out for more workers….and why are we still 8,000 health professionals short?
      250,000 new immigrants arrived last year & the national dairy herd is shrinking….but we need more immigrants for our dairy farms! Make it make sense! (My father milked his own cows, he didn’t get a Filipino to do it for him while he played golf).
      Immigration is used in NZ as a cheap gimmick to boost GDP numbers (but not ‘per capita’ GDP numbers) and keep wages low. And it plays right into the Lefts hands as well (“Yah! Diversity!”)
      Meanwhile our existing infrastructure can’t cope with the influx; many of the newcomers (and their inbound parents) will soon start to develop the health problems that come with older age: our GP’s and Hospitals are set to buckle.

      pdm: I am currently live in Tonga, where recruitment of fruit pickers because the lazy bastards in NZ won’t do it is causing serious labour shortages here. Every single hospitality business here is desperate for staff.
      
      Of course you can’t blame Joe and Jane Tongan: why stay here and earn $5-10 an hour when you can get$20-30 an hour picking apples or grapes?
      
      Australia also obviously has its share of lazy bastards: most of the Tongans coming into my office to get certified copies of their passports are heading to Oz – the pay there is better than NZ apparently.

        DG I have no gripe with RSE workers. Son manages two Orchards for a HB Company and has great Tongan workers.
        
        Where I work a few hours a week as a security guard the orchardist there has Samooan workers who are just the same – yesterday I think they started at 7am and know they finished at 7pm.
        
        Try to get someone from jobseekers to do that.

        Re Jack5 @12.13pm even more so for the grape harvesting and growing with the Kiwi developed machine. Also used to blow all dead foliation from two rows at a time to let the sun shine in and strong growth. It is adapted and purpose built for export to overseas growers of other crops as well. Only downside of RSE workers is they only spend what they have to, beat locals to op shop bargains and send most of their income home.

      There is another aspect to those out of work, and it is from my own experience.
      
      I was at home for a few years, voluntarily, looking after children. No welfare payments involved and budgets were very very tight. It can take a surprisingly small amount of time for the world to shrink and to become much less able to act in one’s own behalf. And I had no pressure apart from very restricted income, but add pressure to get a job pdq and that could make things actually more difficult.
      
      For many some extra support would be needed to get them up and running in a job. Even if they want to work, they don’t know how after a few months or more on the sofa. Suggest that extra support – for some – is a plan with baby steps to start with. For example, requiring attendance at a reasonably near location for half days 3 x a week, build from there.
      
      There is already a sort of model that could be the basis of a plan – the Young Parent Payment designed to help take responsibility and set the household up for the future. Part of the social investment approach, but I hear less supported under the previous government, though it was not cancelled. (Not sure if YPP outcomes are being monitored or met. If not Ministers should be asking and scrutinising.)

        Well not exactly as there are sort of two classes of Jobseekers and the criteria is:
        A) not be in employment and are looking for a job
        B) be in part-time employment and looking for more work, or
        C) have a health condition or disability which affects your ability to work. This means you have to reduce your hours or stop work for a while. We may still be able to help if you have a job to go back to.
        Plus. If you’re getting Jobseeker Support and you still need it after a year, you have to reapply.
        Thus making more work for MSD and you guessed it they need more staff. This is where you will find you are dealing with somebody with a strange sounding. Who obviously has English as a second language, has had the big native cultural training to join in the morning cantation but a lot less job training.

    Be interesting to see what happens when a these new rental housing policies kick in.
    1. No cause required for 90 day terminations by landlords. Currently only a few reasons to terminate are allowed. They are very specific and frankly can be a major hassle gathering evidence. Predictions – uptick in 90 day terminations, increase in transitional housing and social housing waiting list, more offers to new immigrants.
    
    2. Bright-line currently 10 years from purchase, some working through 5 years. Sell within the bright-line period and pay potentially 39% of capital gain to the government. Predictions – could be some good buying coming up if there is a wave of rentals on the market, likely will be. Buyers will include new immigrants with funds and well paying jobs. And did I mention more transitional housing and increased social housing waiting lists?

    Not that long ago there’s a series of articles about substandard rental accommodations in Dunedin, mostly inhabited by the less fortunate members of our society such as people with various addictions and so on. Admittedly, these places were not particularly luxurious and the majority of them were subsequently closed down. Some of their former inhabitants now live in tents. If they have tents.       Talk about New Zealand’s productivity issues. Went for a walk on New Years day to try and find a coffee. One coffee shop (and fuck all else) open in all of Dunners and six thousand bemused German tourists off a cruise ship walking around looking for something to spend their money on. Even the pubs are closed for three weeks!
      
      Three cruise ships in four days and 90% of Dunners shut.

There is no Māori equivalent for the majority of English words. For example his children will never be able to comprehend science. What’s the Māori translation of “electromagnetism”? There is none. The closest you’ll get is “te hikohiko” which translates to “electronics”.

Reuters says this is becoming more common, and describes it thus:

“Spoofing might involve one country’s military sending false Global Positioning System (GPS) signals to an enemy plane or drone to hinder its ability to function.

“The problem for commercial aviation comes if that false signal is then picked up by a GPS receiver in a passenger plane, potentially confusing the pilot and air traffic control.”

Airlines have reported a surge of GPS spoofing in the Middle East and in the Baltic region.

Look, maybe she is, but so far it’s allegations without any evidence or proof.

A couple of other quick points. It was uncritically reported/repeated gleefully yesterday by the MSM that Willie Jackson claimed a speaker called the Govt the “enemy”. Hang on is this the same Willie Jackson who doesn’t speak Maori (well according to his ex-Mrs)?

Or did he mis-translate as we all do if we look up Maori words and phrases – I’ve tried translating emails from maori staffers who are being sincere and positive -but the translation sometimes gives words with negative (and offensive connotations)! Hence why it is virtue signalling to go there (using Maori words/phrases) unless one is extremely confident and fluent in Te Reo!

Another thing. Labour/Hipkins admitted Labour got it wrong yesterday (Hipkins said they didn’t bring non-Maori along with them). So how about the Media focus on Labour’s failings, as it caused division!

Not Nat/ACT/NZF trying to fix decades of Labour stuff-ups, unilateral meddling and sneaky insertion of Treaty “Principles” into the Public Service, Waitangi Tribunal and letting the Courts get away with promoting activist re-interpretations.

As Shane Jones says these areas need to be debated … with the public (Maori and Pakeha and others) learning about what each other finds important to them and needs respecting!

Imagine that a country and people united (not divided a la Labour, Greens, TPM, radical academics and activists and a woke leftie media stirring the pot)!

So what do you think they are plotting right now across the world?

    Yemen has sometimes been called “the Afghanistan of the Middle East” because it is an impoverished tribal society that is well-armed, situated on mountainous terrain. I’ve never been there, but I have been to Saudi which was a fly-blown hell hole, so I’m picking Yemen is not a nice place. If you live there, by default you must be a very resilient person.
    
    So what is different this time around?
    
    I get the idea/urge to show them some consequences, but if the next-level consequences of that action make the situation even worse, then that’s a dumb move.

  we are sending people there as part of the effort to keep the Red Sea open as a shipping route. Currently it’s down around 60%. This means longer, more expensive routes are being used, which hardly helps in the fight against inflation. Plus the Panama canal is not operating at full capacity due to low water levels in the flotation lakes.
  So making the Red Sea safe is actually very important – unless you fancy twin peak inflation as we had in the 70s / 80s

As far as I can see from a facebook thread this is a TAB decision without any public announcements other than from individual racing clubs thanking Tony for his 40 odd years service.

It has not gone down well in the racing fraternity and it is past time TAB Management fronted.

Meanwhile I hope Tony Lee got a bloody great pay out in acknowledgement of his services.

I also wonder what lesser quality commentator will take over from him. George Simon will be a busy boy covering all of the big meetings – or will he be next to go.

I remember when

I found the Afghanistan runout decision rather interesting in that it wasn’t in line with previous incidents of this type.
At the time when the bowler would have been in the process of bowling the New Zealand batsman had his bat behind the crease.
The bat only slid out of the crease after the delivery would have been completed.
The bowler went through the action of bowling the ball then turned around and broke the stumps.
Should it have been a wide, no ball or even a ‘dead ball’ situation?

I agree with Wayne Brown about crossings. In Hamilton the same thing. Hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted on huge humps in the road, many dangerously close to roundabouts where drivers’ attention is on approaching traffic. Paula ‘Slow down Hamilton’ Southgate, the mayor, then has the cheek to impose a 25% increase in rates.
We used to have great, open, quick ring roads and main thoroughfares. Now they are a nightmare of humps and bumps, jutting out bus stops, unused cycling lanes, barriers, lights, huge roundabouts and confusing signage. All accompanied by hundreds of orange cones and empty buses spewing out exhaust fumes. Congestion and traffic back-ups as we have never seen before. God knows how anyone gets any business done.

  They designed a few large roundabouts as you come in from the north. Great. Then they plant trees and bushes in the middle.
  How the hell is a driver supposed to read the roundabout when you can’t see on the other side? Give way to you right sure, but you don’t see that vehicle on the right until it is20 meters away.

    If you think that’s bad you should try the new roundabout in Wellington on state highway 2 at Haywards. There is a large concrete barrier blocking all view of the roundabout. You can’t view any traffic until you enter it. (Coming off an 100kmh road too) Expecting there will be a few accidents at this location.

Gangs are an extremely expensive social/cultural experiment. $6M per year just for additional security in 4 hospitals. If we really believe the numbers (that there are around 9000-odd gang members and 3000-odd in prison, leaving 6000-odd on the streets), then they are costing us $1000 each just for this extra security in hospitals.

$millions here, $millions there… for what? Absolutely no benefit to society.

  Well that is exactly what multiple years of affirmative action, “equity” etc have brought us – holding various people to lower standards because… fairness or something.
  
  Whether that is letting them in to university with lower grades or lowering the fitness standards required for women in the police and army, special concessions for (insert bunch of people). we can continue to expect continued lowering of standards.
  
  Apparently the human body Maori doctors deal with is less complex, women on the battle field encounter more benign conditions than men and so on.

  All branches of the US military are moving to the M17 (full-size) and M18 (compact). It’s also sold privately as the Sig-Sauer P320. But the roll-out has struck some problems with the Sig not working well with some of the US military ammunition.
  
  But they’re mainly replacing a Beretta, the M9. I say mainly because the US military has over a dozen different handguns in official use, let alone the large number of unique choices in units like the SEALs.
  
  Many US special forces do use a Glock though, the Glock 19. It’s slimmer and smaller than the M9. I understand those units may not move to the Sig-Sauer.

      There’s very little advancement in guns in last 50 years other than fancy sighting add ons. At the end of the day guns are pretty simple and existing designs are pretty close to optimal, and there’s very little to be gained from development.
      
      Caseless bullets would be a big thing if they could be made to work reliably – lighter (ammunition weighing as little as 1/2th), more compact guns with no case ejection mechanism required. They’ll likely make it into service eventually – if nothing else it will save on increasingly expensive copper.

        Lighter caseless ammo only provides an advantage if soldiers are going to carry piles of ammo on foot for days and days. No modern army really works like that. Mechanised infantry seldom walk more a couple of hundred metres from their vehicles.

    I’m not a firearm officiando, but in a conversation I had recently with some folk that use these types of things, they said the Glock 19 is a bit weak. When you want to put someone down, the Glock 17 is the way to go.
    
    The general size is about the same, but because the ammunition is bigger (hence the reduced capacity) the target don’t get up again.

      Mostly keyboard warrior stuff. Put a few if any centrefire bullets into someone and they generally don’t ask for more.
      Yes a 45ACP or 10mm make bigger holes than a 9mm, but generally the person being shot at doesn’t get academic about it.
      
      Unless you are highly proficient and larger bodied, 45ACP and 10mm are also harder to control. Most people will shoot more accurately, and faster, with a 9mm.
      
      Sure, 10mm stopping power is superior bullet for bullet, but three hits with a 9mm has more stopping power than two hits with a 10mm.

        To control larger calibers and be accurate you need a heavier Frame to absorb the recoil.
        Glocks are light(polymer frame?) so being easier to control and that also means more rounds with less weight to lug around.
        The traditional Police firearm was the Smith Model 19 .357 on a K Frame which is quite heavy and accordingly easier to handle the recoil.
        But as you say, a Glock is lighter so its easier to fire a few 9mm being a lighter load, so easier to control and have the advantage of 17-19 Rounds to fire.
        As an aside one of my friends Police Sergeant (now retired) was a firearms instructor. He said most cops need to be within 10 feet away to even be sure you will actually hit anything. Even then it was uncertain. Adrenaline and all that.

      AFAIK the Glock 19 is just a compact version of the original Glock 17? Same basic action, just a slightly shorter barrel and shorter handgrip? There’s also a Glock 26 which is even more compact again.
      
      The new Sig-Sauer has a similar thing with the full-size M17 and then the more compact M18.

      I’m something of a military technology enthusiast, strictly keyboard warrior stuff, but there has been an interesting trend in handguns away from the larger heavier calibers in one way over the last generation.
      NATO called for an alternative to the 9mm Parabellum when they realized that their second line troops may end up facing enemies (Soviet paratroopers for example) equipped with body armor while armed only with a pistol or SMG.
      FN came up with the 5.7X28mm for that role, smaller diameter and a much higher velocity to defeat body armor.
      So that’s driving some of the big changes in firearms over the last generation. Kevlar.

Elderly friend has enjoyed doing these quizzes but says now you have to “sign up” and “log in”.
Does anyone know what this entails?
Friend just wants to do the quizzes without having to divulge personal information such as an email address which might then result in constant adverts and demands for money being sent directly via email.
Obviously $tuff can’t manage their finances just with the bulk advertising already present on their site, and ordinary readers shouldn’t expect free quizzes I guess, but what are they signing up to please?

I read the conveniently leaked letter ostensibly from Rob Campbell to Shane Reti in nz Herald.

What I noticed was that in a single conversation about health I saw all of: Manatū Hauora; Pae Ora; Te Aka Whai Ora; Whānau Ora; Te Whatu Ora;

To me, that is the symptom of the problem. Too many fucking ora’s and not enough actual health.

        Today’s rates at 25 per day is saving me thousands! Any addiction is gone when you have a reason.
        To those who smoke – keep paying the tax, otherwise the non-smokers will have to pay.

    Seems any Republican not named Donald Trump is given the label ‘RINO’ eventually, and the ardent Trump fans enthusiastically join the pile on. It’s interesting because for parts of his life Trump supported the Democrats and at others he was an Independent. When it suited his political purposes he became a Republican. Then imagine someone who has been a Republican their whole life now being labelled a ‘RINO’, just because they aren’t Donald Trump. This thing where Trump has to always be the head Republican, seemingly ‘by right’, and it’s ‘disloyal’ to challenge him….it’s not good.

The Federal Aviation Administration is looking for recruits with ‘severe intellectual’ disabilities as it tries to hit woke DEI targets.

The agency is hunting people with psychiatric issues and other mental and physical conditions in its latest diversity drive.

The FAA, which includes jobs such as air traffic controllers, are keen to employ those with hearing and vision impairments, missing limbs, partial and complete paralysis.
