Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has finally unequivocally ruled out supporting ACT’s Treaty Principles Bill past first reading.

■ Does Luxon know what is in this law already?
■ Why can it not be published for the entire nation to see it?

The three principles which David Seymour wants to establish as a point of reference are –
• the Government has the right to govern
• all New Zealanders have rights over what they possess, and
• each New Zealand citizen has one equal vote (OK, two under MMP) to elect the Government.
They are basically the hallmarks of a democracy

It is a vast pity that this has become entangled in the Treaty of Waitangi

A law embodying these three points could have been introduced independently, as something like the New Zealand Democracy Declaration –
three points which everyone could support, or explain why they don’t

What our relatives (now ancestors, many) fought for in World Wars, why we support the AUKUS defence pact now, why the Treaty should define our engagement with UNDRIP, why we are a member of the United Nations anyway, why we could have a Race Relations conciliator who not only stops any ethnic group being picked on to denigrate, but also halts any ethnicity being picked for Aryan exceptionalism or superiority, and on and on

Each of these seeming new isolated nation’s values – which apparently need restating – could have been considered in their own right, as rights, in the utter simplicity that they have
without being bogged down in the shit as we presently appear to be in

Why doesn’t the nation, including Christopher Luxon, wait patiently a little bit for David Seymour to actually write and present his proposed law, before trashing it

Let him present his law, and then it can be trashed
A tall poppy rather than another foreign field of poppies

    Luxon will send ministers to Ratana and attend Waitangi himself. Showing respect to Maori and patiently listening to their views. yet he and his party have pre-determined their views on ACTs bill and will not be swayed by representations made at the select committee. This is a disgrace. Basically a continuation of the Labour policy of consulting only with Maori.

        If Luxon’s more concerned about still being a “small target” he needs a serious rethink and more importantly his advisors need the boot.
        
        Luxon is the now the Prime Minister of New Zealand and was given, along with his coalition partners, a very strong mandate by the majority of New Zealanders to sort this racial crap out. Turning on ACT, as a coalition partner and voted in by a significant proportion of New Zealanders will be deadly.
        
        The country is crying out for strong leadership which will see National retain the majority in 2026, despite Labour funding the Public Interest Journalism Fund right up until the next election. (Buckle up for the next three years of full-on already-paid-for MSM attacks).
        
        Refrain at your peril PM Luxon. Mark my words, the country is in no mood for your pandering to the Maori Elite and turning on ACT, and your grace period will run out sooner rather than later.

        Significant? Act got 8.64% of the vote. That’s minor. As a side note in 2017 NZ First got 7.2% of the vote. People here were annoyed when a party with such a small vote had major policy. What was. It, the tail wagging the dog. But now it is reversed and it is act people change. Strange that
        
        No one has turned on act. The agreement was to take it to select committee, that is it. That is what Seymour agreed to and signed up for. He also agreed to that parties could agree or disagree with each others policies.

    National reveals its true colours. Not so much a broad church as Labour Lite. National still hasn’t adapted to MMP. National VOTERS haven’t adapted to MMP.         On the basis of available aid, assistance, welfare, special programmes etc., as things stand at present, Maori have FAR MORE OPPORTUNITY accorded them than any of New Zealand’s OTHER races.

        How is calling your coalition partners bill ‘divisive’ and ‘unhelpful’ a real good show of support? It’s the opposite in fact.
        Potaka said it was ‘premature’ to say that the Coalition government had a basis in white supremacy. I still find this an absolutely extraordinary comment to make, and very troubling. He also made a joke about Seymours maori whakapapa at the Iwi leaders meeting in Kerikeri.
        So is Potaka just a trojan horse within National? Is Luxon pulling his strings, or is he pulling Luxons(?)

All you want is for Seymour’s line to be what is said. Even Seymour is saying that a referendum may not be needed. But you won’t listen. You won’t listen to what national mp’s are saying.         This isn’t an overnight bill, it isn’t even written, it will be at least next year before it comes up for any decision. Right now the prime minister is rightfully saying what he thinks of what the media are pushing out there, wait for the bill to be written the exact wording to be made public and for god sake act people. Look at you people, do you see Seymour throwing in the towel and acting like this, no, he knows he has a lot of work to do to convince the country that this is needed, and he is doing it.         Correct ghost. Seymour will also have meetings all over the country. The public will be invited to comment. If he can show the majority of NZRS want to take this further Luxon either changes his mind or has to deal with the swing in public opinion against him. He will gauge public opinion.         My understanding is that National committed to supporting the bill to select committee, but not committed beyond that. Given that select committee is where they will hear representation from people with a different view to the Maori elites and protesters that they have been engaging with to date there is at least an implied agreement to consider what happens in select committee. To do otherwise is basically an abuse of the democratic process and shows National negotiating in bad faith. My reading is that Seymour expects to get overwhelming public support and thinks Luxon will flip-flop. He might be right. If not, I expect he will reconsider whether they wish to remain in coalition with National.

        In your opinion. I think he was the subject of a concerted attack prior to the election by ‘the COVID people’ and the religious right. (Mysteriously, a few of our most prominent COVID posters seem to have disappeared). Anyway, this sustained attack worked and shaved at least a couple of percent off the ACT vote, and we’ll pay the price for that.

  i have voted national in every election up until 2023 when i voted for Act. They will keep my vote into the future while National fail to progress the clarification of the Treaty – NZ cannot move forward as a divided nation – and we must all be equal in democracy – I 100% support Act and what they are trying to achieve.

      ACT will continue to soak up disenfranchised Nat voters.
      
      ACT is being given space and time to work the country and drum up support. Seymour backs himself to do it as he did with the End of Life Bill.
      
      National will say “no support” on the referendum right up until ACT forces them to support it then National will say “we had no choice, its the will of the voters”

        National won’t backtrack on this. Luxon has been increasingly clear. National will not vote for the second reading. Seymour gets his Bill into Select Committee and gets his public hearings. That is what the coalition agreement gave him. He won’t get more than that.
        I don’t see any circumstance that National will change its position on this issue.

        Thank you Wayne Mapp – you have very concisely summarised National’s position exactly.
        
        There are some KB Nat supporters (Ghost, G etc) who seem to think Luxon will change his mind if Seymour gets enough public support for it. I do not believe he will change his mind no matter what comes out of the Bill.
        
        I hope he does change his mind, but I have no confidence that he will.

        Your choice of who to believe. Wayne who hasn’t been a mp since 2010 so is limited in what he knows. Or Todd McClay who has stated a few weeks ago the national position is to listen to the public feedback before they make a decision. He’s not the only mp to say that. You can also listen to Luxon who today said that it is national policy to not have a referendum, that the agreement was to go to select committee and there is no commitment after that. He also would not place his job on the line that national wouldn’t support it further. You can also listen to Seymour who has said that a referendum may not happen, as after submissions the government just may do what is needed. There is more than one way to deal with this.

        A rare uptick from me Wayne, what you say is exactly the position. I heard Luxon say that he has been speaking privately with Iwi leaders and understands why they are concerned about the Bill. (You know, all that stuff about equality for all races and democracy). Luxon also said something about working with them to improve outcomes for Maori.
        Luxon is not listening to ordinary New Zealanders. We can make whatever representations we like to the select committee – National and the Iwi leaders have already consulted and decided.

  Luxons gonna have a problem when an overwhelming number of submissions support the Bill. What will be his answer then. I dont think this guy believes in real democracy. He is as bad as the Left.   I was pretty angered by this.
  
  Emailed the PM (yes I’m sure he’ll never see it) saying that as a Prime Minister and a parliamentarian, he should respect the parliamentary process and not make a decision on it until the detail is known and been discussed in Select Committee.
  
  I told him he’s been scared off by a noisy Maori Party and noisy Media Party, and that Tova and Jessica have made him crumble like a bad scone.
  
  But, as I say, I’m sure he’ll never read it.

What a waste of court time. Even if you agree with Mr Smith’s premise, the appropriate place for this sort of decision is parliament, not the courts.

These judges overreach themselves.

  There has never been a proper court case where big green had to defend their climate hysteria. Despite a multitude of lawfare cases they always shy away from testing the actual science in court. They only lodge cases where the court starts from the basis that CO2 is a pollutant which causes extreme weather. In an ominous sign, our Supreme Court seemed to spend more time assessing the penalty than whether the case had merit,
  
  Big green (Smith is a front to shield eg Greenpeace from damages if they lose) will hate it if this trial goes deeper than t-shirt and protest slogans into the realm of reality.
  
  1. The IPCC itself finds there is no observed climate change for storms, droughts, wind etc (let alone that CO2 causes it).
  2. Also they picked the wrong country. The IPCC forecast New Zealand is one of only two counties that will get a net benefit of the predicted climate change.
  3. To be guilty of something that may happen in the future they will need to prove the veracity of the climate models. What fun that will be!
  
  Finally, a well resourced defendant in a lawfare cases disinclined to settle.

Why?

What happens if Smith wins? The costs to these companies, coalminer BT Mining, oil importer Channel Infrastructure, farming company Dairy Holdings, dairy giant Fonterra (which burns coal to dry milk), energy company Genesis (which burns coal and gas to create electricity), NZ Steel (which also burns coal) and petrol and diesel retailer Z Energy, will eventually be passed on to their customers.

And these idiot judges are happy to go along with this ludicrous position as if it actually has some merit. New Zealand is responsible for a fraction of 1% of global emissions….it’s 0.17%, and then these 7 outfits would be responsible for a fraction of the fraction. So because of an activist judge we now have Treaty ‘principles’ enmeshed in our legislation, so that separatist activists and more activist judges can weaponise them to wage war on our economy. Utter madness, but what can be done? Smith used to cause damage with a chainsaw, now he uses the law to attack our food and electricity producers. Smith is indicative of the big problem sitting inside New Zealand like a bleeding ulcer: he and those like him hate our country & he want to damage or even destroy it.

    Ol earth is very old as is its climate history. There are many versions of the graph below available from any number of scientific agencies. The graph shows CO2 over millions of years. It’s worth noting that CO2 is at the lowest it’s ever been … 400 parts per million (ppm) at the moment. At 200ppm plants die. It also shows over a long period there is no correlation between earth climate temperature and CO2.
    
    The other point is calculations from the IPCC show if you double the CO2 rapidly to 800ppm you decrease the thermal radiation to space by 1 degree. It’s based on a scientific principle called Chatelier’s Principle. If you have a system in equilibrium and you add more of one element to the system, the system will counter the addition of the additional element to get back to equilibrium.
    
    And here’s a quote directly out of an IPCC report:
    
    “In climate research and modelling, we should recognise that we are dealing with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore that the long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible”. Admittedly from their ARC3 report.
    
    Another point, all the climate models from the ICPP don’t allow for cloud formations as they are just too complex to model.

  If Genesis don’t burn coal and gas to create electricity, particularly during times of low rainfall, then we would have black outs….instantly our living standards evaporate. It was such an untenable situation that the Ardern government shipped in more than a million tonnes of Indonesian coal to ensure ‘the lights stay on’. Perhaps Smith wants societal chaos, he has spent his life as an activist wrecker after all. Maybe he is a luddite? Who knows.   The media won that battle. They kept at Luxon and Seymour like bitchy girls in the playground with a game of he said this and he said that.
  
  Seymour held firm and Luxon cut him loose. Ironically, there’s two silver linings. We see who’s the more solid battler, and it gives Seymour permission to really take this thing out for a spin without worrying about stepping on toes.
  
  The downside is that Luxon has shown he can be easily bullied into submission. The media knows he has a weakness around co-governance due to his ESG-driven corporate mindset and he’s a Net Zero disciple. I guess the issue is how to sort out those who are genuinely in need of a benefit and those who are simply grafting the system. I never believed Sepuloni’s excuses and now Louise Upston has to sort it.

What an odd column, she’s saying that the government says one thing – and she tells us what it is – and then says ‘we’ hear something totally different. She’s saying that people wilfully hear only what they want to hear. The problem is, Luxon seems to care what the media thinks of him, he wants to please them, wants to win them over, he wants to be a respected and admired CEO in their eyes. Perhaps he sees the likes of Jenna Lynch as great potential executive material, if only he mould them and get them on his team. Luxon seems a little star struck by all the potential executive talent around him, potentially imagining James Shaw and Jenna Lynch thriving as executives under his tutelage.

        Sounds reasonable, but almost certainly cheaper to carry on paying the bene given the costs of rehab, the likelihood of falling off the wagon, and finding an employer who wants them.

  Chris Luxon’s only commitment in coalition talks was to allow the Bill to go to ‘first reading’ stage. That is all David Seymour could squeeze out of him short of allowing coalition talks to collapse which would have resulted in a fresh election. Chris presumably considered Labour was in no position to form a coalition because of issues between the potential partners. Chris has obviously decided he will support the Bill no further no doubt in the light of various discussions he had at Waitangi.
  Chris is shaping up to be a far smarter politician than some people would like to think, and he seems to be smarter than John Key was. I would rather have a leader with the ‘smarts’ than one with ‘balls’.

    Seymour is a lot smarter than Luxon. Luxon can not win this one over the long term with his “the Treaty is a partnership” position – it is clearly not true. The invisible ink is simply fairy dust. And that position ultimately wrecks the country (that’s not counted as a win BTW)
    
    The truth ALWAYS wins in the long term, but sometimes that is a very long time. I am hoping, but not confident, that Seymours Bill does in fact gain some serious traction from the general public which causes some logical resetting of the Treaty gravy train.
    
    But for a moment, let’s just say the “Treaty is a partnership gravy train” carries on down its current pathway, what happens? We either have a major scrap (civil war in some weird/complicated manner), or the country descends over time to be a race-based socialist hell hole. Rational citizens would quickly move away. In summary, it would be ‘fight or flight’, with no other option.
    
    So, no matter what, Luxon is wrong, and Seymour is right. But there is a fair chance that the country will be wrecked in the process.

  He just seemed to fold up before our eyes. Just gave in to ‘rule by media’. They kept badgering about his stance on the referendum bill, and eventually he just seemed to capitulate to them. Very worrying that a ‘leader’ would allow the media to dictate his course of action. One journalist (it may have been Lynch) yesterday rudely instructed him to ‘properly answer so and so’s question’ when he tried to pivot to her and take her question. So he meekly did as instructed. Why Luxon allows himself to be treated like this is beyond me. Helen Clark gave Campbell the metaphorical ‘both barrels’, Ardern tightly controlled her stand ups (“Jessica, then Tova”), yet Luxon just stands there blinking in the head lights. Maybe Luxon is just a sort of ‘better’ Todd Muller, a corporate manager eventually found to be without the intestinal fortitude for the fight & the long haul.

      ‘Giving a longer press conference’ is something that should be celebrated? Why? Do you think I’m a big fan of the mainstream media and think they deserve to be accommodated in that way? Aside from that, you seem to not have comprehended what I wrote: I never said he failed to answer their questions, I just said that one reporter demanded that he ‘properly answer’ another reporters question. And Luxon meekly did as instructed.
      You are a big admirer of Luxon, and that’s really great. Under media pressure he has gone from saying there was ‘no commitment’ to supporting the bill past select committee to now ruling out supporting it past select committee. To me, that’s really weak and disappointing. I don’t want the PM bowing to the media pack like that.

        As Luxon stated in the press conference, it has been the national policy during and after the election to oppose a referendum on the Treaty Principles Bill. The coalition agreement only pledged to support the bill to the select committee stage, and there was no commitment beyond that. This was what Seymour agreed to, along with the condition that all three parties could have different views on each other’s policies

  What you are seeing there is the tired old media trick of eliminating context and shuffling chronology to change the narrative. Just yesterday a headline read, “Maori implore Luxon…”. No point imploring anyone unless you’ve already lost. The trick is made more effective using soundbites, which they have, but it still can’t conceal the trick. Luxon hasn’t ruled it out. He maintains the line of due process intent. No one needs to panic. The same news story claims he is scared of sending people back to the polls, and breaching a coalition agreement would be the fastest way to do that. Even as a gambler he’d have to accept that ACT would be back, with at least twice their seats. He’s on a hiding to nothing by talking about the Bill, and the media are demonstrable liars. Just concentrate on the reality, not the words. A week in politics is a long time, a year… positively near an eternity.

    Elli, if that’s the case the media are cutting and pasting recordings of him in order to say something completely different. I have heard Luxon unequivocally rule out support beyond the select committee. See also Wayne Mapp’s comments up thread. I don’t hold Luxon in high regard, but he is not so stupid as to allow himself to be painted into this corner against his will. If Seymour’s bill goes ahead now it will be a major reversal for Luxon – maybe even a resignation matter.

      He is keeping the football on the field….and doing a very good job of it, and also not deliberately offending anyone by committing for or against. Seymour and Peters are out creating merry hell, which is their job. People complain to Luxon that they are saying bad things. He simply tells the media they are their own people and they have their own style. That’s completely correct. The previous govt used a crazy method of everything needing to be confirmed by the single source of truth and confirmed or denied in the silly way that Ardern used to do it. It is actually quite refreshing to have a leader that agrees that he has delegated responsibilities to people that have their own way of dealing with things, and he has the confidence in their style and execution.

  That Bill was not something Chris promised in the election campaign. As part of coalition discussions he agreed to let it go to first reading but made no commitment beyond that and David Seymour was in no position to push the matter further. Democracy does not require Chris Luxon to allow the Bill to go further. All Democracy requires is for leaders in coalition talks to act in good faith to try and close a coalition deal something which Chris, David and Winston did with great success.

    It’s like me shaking your hand on a deal, then turning around and saying “well, we did it, it’s all agreed…but he’s ‘ugly’ and ‘untrustworthy’ by the way”. It’s not good faith at all.
    Seymour could not expect Luxon to actively promote his bill, but equally he was entitled to believe that ‘good faith’ would mean that Luxon would not actively disparage it the way he did.

Luxon is stating what has been the national position since the election, since the collation agreement.   To be honest Maggie, both these cases will end up with diversion, nothing on their records and a wet bus ticket fine plus an agreement to be good and not do it again over a 24mth period.
  One is a trans activist and what happened was a heat of the moment and out of character act.
  The other is an ex MP and what happened was due to stress and out of character …..see where this is going?
  What I WILL guarantee is the left will be going ape shit crying foul when GGs day in court arrives, any reporting of it (even just the facts) will be decried as ‘misogyny’, ‘racist’….this would never have the coverage if she was white blah blah blah.
  Basically it’s all our fault GG shoplifted 3 times (that we know of) and it’s a travesty she is being charged at all!

There is an enormous dearth of courage and common sense on the Right in New Zealand; we keep taking a pummelling from Left through their control of the media, but purported Right wing commentators who get columns published in the print (nowadays also web) media struggle to really eviscerate what should be sitting ducks. The contemptible behaviour of the vile Hipkins is ripe for a savaging, but the only stuff you’ll read are columns from Leftists climbing into David Seymour.
Likewise, the sight of Ngapuhi speakers lambasting the Crown is ripe for ‘a few home truths’. Much of the misery & poverty in Northland could be alleviated within a few short years….but the tribe cannot organise itself to negotiate & settle with the Crown!! Maori are blaming the wrong people for their predicament, their own leaders have ‘sold them down the river’. Why can nobody say it?!
Of course, the so-called ‘Right wing’ commentators in the mainstream media often seem to be nothing of the sort, being either intellectual feather-weights or shadowy political operatives turned opinion piece writers. Most of the best writers and thinkers are doing their work on obscure blog sites, but even then it is a struggle to find anyone who really grasps the nettle and really gets to the nub of the problem of the Left and the Maori separatists.
Regarding the Left, they have launched an aggressive all out attack on our society, and this should be called out loud and clear. We are all far to complacent and accepting of people who seek to make Leftist cant such as ‘social justice’ a part of the actual DNA of the state. We should be utterly rejecting this attack, instead we seem to be meekly submitting to it. What the Left is doing is happening in plain sight and with no regard to who is the elected government at any given time, but they are unchallenged.
As regards Maori, the elephant in the room is that most of the answers to their problems lie with themselves. They could finalise Treaty settlements & distribute the proceeds and profits of Iwi businesses properly amongst themselves to benefit all, but instead they seem to want to wallow in a grievance mentality & actually undermine the nation wherever and whenever possible. As far as I am concerned, they hate New Zealand and are actively brainwashed by hate-filled ‘academics’ to regard New Zealand as a ‘colonial’ hell hole that hates them and is ‘racist’ towards them in umpteen different ways. Why does the country allow a group of vulnerable young people to be inculcated into a mentality of hate in this way? This lamentable situation is comparable to the indoctrination one might find at a Hamas training camp. Maori are prisoners of this detestable state sanctioned brainwashing, taught to hate ‘the Crown’ and hate ‘New Zealand’, and as such they become puppets and pawns of the Left and of the machiavellian Iwi leaders.
Without strong leadership that possesses moral clarity and the universal voice of common sense and sound authority, we are going to be wrecked in due course. I hope strong political leadership and strong intellectual leadership emerges on the Right before it is too late.

  IMO – The division between ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ is now massive on so many fronts. Not just in NZ but throughout the ‘Western’ world. The emergence of the woke activists has created this gap. Most of the population still have the same values and beliefs that were prevalent 15-30 years ago – but we are now called ‘Right-wing’ or ‘Hard Right’. We haven’t changed, but the Left has gone full-on clown-world, creating this massive gap in ideologies.

The Law Association paper below asks which is better, adversarial or inquisitorial courts. There are benefits and costs in both and to change completely to inquisitorial would be a difficult undertaking. Why not establish a review to look at what benefits we could incorporate from the inquisitorial. To quote from the paper below:

“Finkelstein’s arguments are focused on civil cases. He recommends several reforms. He calls for judges to have a more active role, including the power to call a witness where the interests of justice so require, the ability to question witnesses beyond their present restricted role and primary control over the questioning of witnesses. He also calls for judges to have the power, in appropriate cases, to appoint an independent examiner to question witnesses prior to trial.”.

  If I was really innocent of the crime (eg not being there) I would rather have a judge and two skilled assessors rather than a jury.The prosecution might be able to BS a jury (and I know a case where that happened ) but have trouble fielding a few pointed questions from the judge or assessor.

We need to challenge the concept of DEI.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion sounds great in theory but is an abject failure in practice.

And the world already has a number of living, breathing case studies in what happens when DEI takes over a country.

South Africa has become a complete Basket Case, unable to care for it’s infrastructure, unable to keep the lights on.

Since 1995, the country has continued to force appointments on the basis of ethnic quota, to its detriment.

Equity has killed efficiency, and now they can’t keep the lights on, and if you think NZ is immune to this, look at the water problems in Wellington since the STV system was introduced in the name of equity.

Diversity to me means having the best person in the role, regardless of their ethnicity.

A DEI activist wants the best ethnicity in a role, regardless of their ability.

  Again, you simply will not be told, will you? You know full well Wellington’s water problems well and truly predate STV, but still you blame the STV system. If we still had FPP in Wellington, it is highly likely that, of our 15 councillors, 11 or 12 would be Labour/Green, rather than the current eight or nine. The last General Election showed that would have been a distinct possibility.
  
  Unlike multiple-FPP, STV is a system of both proportional and personal representation, that gives voters precisely what they vote for (within the constraints of district magnitude, i.e., the number of representatives being elected together).
  
  If a majority of voters want Group A and Group B candidates, together, to be in the majority, that is what the system will generally give them, in proportion to their support. What could be more democratic than that?
  
  Why does Dunedin, Porirua, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, and Hamilton not have a quarter of their councillors being Greens, or half their councillors being Labour and Greens? Because that is not what the voters voted for.
  
  Why are Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland (local government) and Australia not basket cases? They have STV.
  
  You say South Africa [which has had Party List PR since 1995] is a basket case. But most countries in Europe, under pretty much the same system since the early Twentieth Century, are not. Why is that?
  
  As I have said repeatedly here, for several years now, we can only vote for those candidates who put themselves forward, regardless of the electoral system in use. If the candidates are low quality, the elected councillors will be low quality. Auckland and Christchurch (under FPP) are hardly shining lights of local government administration success, are they?
  
  As I have also repeatedly said, in Wellington the Right know what it must do — and it had better start getting organised soon, or the Left will waltz in again next year, and rightly so.
  
  Tory Whanau did not win because of DEI. She won because she ran by far the best campaign, against two uninspiring opponents who Wellingtonians were bored by. You know that as well as I do, yet you suggest her success was due to some esoteric factor that is wholly unproven, and which, basically, is nothing more than your opinion.
  
  If, next year, voters consider her to have been a failure, she will be given the boot, and perhaps Ray Chung will be given a chance. Fortunately, with STV, such a change is more likely than under FPP, which favours incumbents (because the winner must get 50% of the votes to win, not just cruise back in on a plurality of 35%–40%).

    You see, the narrative being pushed is the “Noble savage”. That Māori morals are better than the evil white man’s and we need to emulate them. When this is the perception you are trying to craft, it is a REALLY REALLY bad idea to awaken the population to the fact that Māori culture is traditionally very sexist and Wahine have little rights. The reverse is also bad for their agenda – painting Māori adopting a western value as being “good/historic”. That might make western values look good. Picked up the free copy of the Herald at the cafe and wished I hadn’t. The cartoon from far left kook Rod Emmerson was another disgusting and gutless attack, again on Seymour….now depicted as a tiny shin-high figure amidst a crowd of passing legs, squeaking “now that I have your undivided attention, who’s for a referendum on the Treaty?” Emmerson’s burning hate is never concealed these days, day in & day out it is the same pathetically one-sided attack. He manages to inject some disinformation into his ‘work’ as well. As much as Emmerson loathes the Coalition, I loathe Emmerson.

Ah well it was fun while it lasted. I decided to set some lefties straight on a post on The Standard that Greg Presland AKA Mickysavage wrote about the insidious motivations behind the proposed Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill. (see: https://thestandard.org.nz/toitu-te-tiriti/). Eventually I got under their skin so much they banned me on spurious grounds for not addressing something I was not even aware of.

I must state though there is a real obsession with the conspiracy that the Atlas Network is behind all of this. Even relatively centre left commentators like Mr Presland are deeply troubled by this possibility despite having not a shred of hard evidence that any funding or even undue influence by Atlas is taking place in NZ.

What the hell is going on with NZ police?

Parents getting kids to drive cars and there are zero consequences when they are caught.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all in favour of kids learning to drive at an early age. My kids were driving around on the paddocks when they were this age. It cost me a gate and a hundred metres of electric fence tape. But not on the open roads.

Why even bother getting a driver’s license in NZ? Is this more natural driving ability of superior races?

1. Open Chrome.

2. Click on the three dots at the top right corner.

3. Go right down to “settings”.

4. About half-way down click “on startup”.

Here you have three choices. Choose one with a click.

Of course they mostly agreed it was a step in the right direction for Russia but what struck me was the obvious literacy of these people being interviewed. A Stuff contributor is having a whine about plane seat sizes saying they should be increased for health reasons because humans are getting bigger.

I’m not sure we should really consider making seats bigger for grossly obese people, but there has not been much consideration for tall people in the past.

At almost 6ft 6 in the old money, I have long given up any expectation of fitting in seats, beds and coupe cars. You would hope that airlines might reserve exit rows for taller people, but no – it’s first come first served.

I used to get annoyed when I walked past the exit row and saw the seats taken by little 5ft 3 garden gnomes. Now I just ignore it and wedge myself in (though I also fly less these days).

If they do start making allowances for people being taller then I hope they give consideration for the extra tall people first. There is little point in focusing on average sized people who don’t have a problem.

      Taurapa, who previously went under the name of Connor Taurapa Matthews, was struck off the teaching register after an extremely brave stand by a young girl he groomed.
      
      She waived her right to privacy and name suppression, and this allowed the Taurapa case to be highlighted.
      
      Te Puni Kokiri has insulted the girl victims, their families, and the schools.

Its a scandal New Zealand has a $30 billion liability unless we renegade on a promise made to the UN. Governments have been brought down for less than this. They are now in opposition. I would be interested to know whether anyone else feels like I’ve suddenly come to feel and that is as follows.

Do people feel Maori are going backwards with regard to their culture? Is it normal in today’s world to be stomping, chanting, poking out tongues, exposing backsides, rubbing noses, showing massive aggression etc etc. How many people today practise what their ancestors probably practised centuries ago? Have Maori perhaps not grown up and moved into civilisation away from their Stone Age beginnings?

For some time now I’ve been in utter despair every time all the stomping and chanting has taken place at everything that opens and shuts. My thinking is wondering that if Maori want to keep on with this aggressive behaviour which they did when still in the Stone Age, perhaps they should limit it to Maraes. Why should the rest of us have to put up with it all when many of us are totally fed up with it all.

Having said all of the above I’m only referring to the rabble rousers. There are many part Maori who are decent hardworking citizens getting by on their own initiative and are indistinguishable from the rest of us. I really feel we should have this conversation. Am I way off beam or do others feel like I’m starting to?

In today’s world with all that we have given them and helped them with surely they should have grown up and be able to act like proper adults instead of petulant badly behaved children.

Getting as far as a Parliamentary committee hearing on Treaty “principles” will be a victory for ACT .

Remember what happened after the mosques massacres, and Ardern led a clampdown on lawful gun owners – sports shooters, farmers, hunters?

Seymour tried to get a Parliamentary committee hearing on gun law. He held out bravely alone against all political-comers and the media. He held out until the last minute.

Then in what looked to many of us to be a stunt, he was outside the chamber, on the steps of Parliament when the critical vote was taken. His single vote would have forced a Parliamentary committee hearing.

Views expressed to the committee mightn’t have changed Labour’s clampdown on legal firearms owners, but it would have instilled some, perhaps a little, reason into the hysteria.

It seems likely that someone, perhaps from National, or a prominent ACT backer, at the last minute got to Seymour, standing bravely alone.

The point is, a Parliamentary committee hearing isn’t nothing. It should give a chance for views on Treaty “principles” to be aired, and even if downplayed or ignored by the bloc of State media and bought-off private media, submissions will be on record and available to the free internet.

It will help us decide our vote at the next General Election.
