      Luxon’s at least trying to get us on a growth track after the Ardern-Chippy years of mismanagement – and the inflation from scandalous “printing” of tens of billions of dollars through bond transactions during Covid.

        What a load of crap that was, just two weeks ago police stated that morale have lifted greatly, so just one disagreement with pay negotiations that are not final and the whole police force has gone to the dogs.
        
        Firstly Luxon is not negotiating, apparently it’s the ministry negotiating. No word of out rage when Labour have done nothing in the negotiations for a year.
        This woman will be a unionist hack complaining about not being able to look after her 6 kids

  Firstly, its highly likely that TikTok is a wonderful wee trojan to the hardware it resides on – like most other kit/software with connections to China.
  
  That said, the way the bill is written means it can be used by pollies to shut down any platform they dont like – TT is just the nasty horrible eveil target to get the public onside.

  The “problem” with Tik Tok is that the Americans can’t censor it, and the kids love it because it’s a much better product than the American social media apps. Tik Tok also isn’t curated to give the most popular (read, controlled) influencers exposure.
  
  The US significantly censors anti-Israel sentiment on its apps (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc.) but it cannot touch TikTok so anti-Israel/pro-Palestine content abounds there. This is intolerable when narrative control is crucial.
  
  Here’s the perceived danger: what if people are free to make up their own minds instead of being told what to believe? What if the kids start not hating Hitler, or backing the Palestinians, or criticising the Jews and Israel? We can’t have that, so let’s change the law in “free” America.

What is this ‘tikanga’ thing? It seems it can be whatever takes your fancy. Some Māori commentators say spitting is good, some say bad, some say OK if it hits the target, others that it is important tradition.

Being a simple soul, I say it’s a dirty, disgusting, unclean thing and disrespectful if intentionally aimed at another person.

  Its so wonderful that all law students are going to have to take classes in it from 1 Jan 2025. The fact that there is no single body of ‘lore’ about it, with each Iwi having its own version of Tikanga, makes a sitter for ongoing variable interpretation in the courts, as well as among those expert academics who like to lecture us about how good the natives are.

Apologies if someone’s already posted this as I have been out of action for a few days.

The Listener political commentary says Luxon is a fast learner and one of his improvements is in being able to repeat a handful of empty phrases.

But, goes on to say the commentator, he is still an amateur compared with Chris Hipkins, let alone Jacinda Ardern , who was a Picasso of meaninglessness.

Loved that last description, but that side of her won’t appear in the documentary.

        Grumpy: I literally wince when I see “potatoe’s” and “tomato’s” at a greengrocers. We have a greengrocer in Helensville who is a Fiji Indian – he clearly understands that “potatoes” doesn’t take an apostrophe.
        
        Surely a sad indictment on our schools that he “gets it” but many native born New Zealanders don’t? He probably got hit with a ruler when he got it wrong!

According to Wikipedia, using the Gaza Health Ministry as their source, there have been a massive amount of civilian casualties in Gaza –
“As of 29 February, the Gaza Health Ministry reports that at least 30,000 Palestinians (including over 10,000 minors) have been killed, over 70,000 injured, and 10,000 are missing under rubble, totaling over 110,000 casualties since the war began, which is about 5% of Gaza’s 2.3 million population.

But how accurate are those numbers?
Statistics Professor Abraham Wyner is very sceptical –

According to Wyner, the numbers are not real and don’t reflect how naturally occurring numbers work. For example:
– there has been a unnaturally regular increase of casualties rather than the variation one would expect depending on the ebb and flow of the war.

– There should be a correlation between the number of children killed and the number of women killed. But there is not.

– Most likely the numbers are made up. The daily totals increase too consistently to be real.
– The claimed 70% women and children casualties is far higher than previous conflicts with Israel.
– Adult male casualties are by contrast extremely low.
– Hamas blames all deaths on Israel, even those from their own misfired rockets.

Israel estimates that about 12,000 enemy fighters have been killed. Given the nature of urban warfare the number of civilian casualties would then be low by historical standards.
This represents a remarkable effort by the IDF to preserve civilian life when faced with an enemy who regularly and deliberately uses civilians as human shields.

  My general rule of thumb here is if you see two experts disagree over a question that you yourself are not an expert in, then put it in the file labeled “I Don’t Know”.
  But only using 15 days of data for a war that’s been going on for 5 months definitely looks sus.
  Also another rule of thumb is if you see some sort of information processing technique being used in a hot button political issue, check out its use in an uncontroversial issue first. The death tolls in WWII are pretty settled, what does this technique do with those?
  If these techniques are brand new and are only being deployed here, then it’s highly sus.

Tikanga is only the tip of the upcoming social disaster which we are seeing daily in young people believing they are beyond the rule of acceptable behavior.
We saw this a couple of days ago when the Deputy Education Minister was at Palmerston North and was spat upon, after a vigorous Haka, because it has been said that School Meals are to be reviewed.
On the media we saw a number of young people, who we now understand, believe the pupil suspended is a hero, and they made it clear they totally support what he and others did.
This is the continuation of the breakdown in our world started by Helen Clark and her two lady cohorts, Tizard and Wilson, to destroy the family unit.
They have been aided by Ardern and Robertson in their continuation of Marxism and what we are now seeing regularly as Anarchism at all levels of age and ethnicity.
I believe we are continuing only more speedily in the destruction of what we knew as New Zealand.
Our education for the last 30 years has led to parents and now their children of having no sense of responsibility, which is why we are and will continually lose our best educated children overseas, and unlike in the past, they will see nothing worth returning for except another poor South Pacific Island, with little law and order to defend its place in the world.

  Using the recent example of students challenging and threatening Seymour, Seymour could have challenged and threatened the students in return. That’s tikanga in action on both sides.
  
  So those Maori “activists” (for lack of a better term) congratulating the students should really step back and think, do we really want both sides antagonising and potentially harming each other?
  
  After all in the true Te ao Māori world (pre-colonialism), customary values could have seen the likes of the upstart students being attacked in retaliation!

  Maggie: Yes, the “my tiki is bigger than yours” phenomenon builds. Back in the day, “real” Maori wore ones which were quite small, and people used to say “the bigger the bone carving the bigger the wanker” – the large ones mostly being worn by white Maori.

        Among the thinking population, their reputation is not gauged by a lofty title, but the ‘cut of their jib’. Specifically their adherence to the scientific method or critical thinking, and presentation of facts, and chain of logic.
        
        When Shaun Hendy said in March 2020 that 80,000 people could die, he presented no logic. It takes 10 seconds to calculate that for 80,000 to die, The Infection Fatality Rate was over 8%. Meaning approx 1 in 10 people would die from it.
        
        And Ardern undid all that, by poncing around doing sermons on the POT unprotected, and later in mid 2020 mixing with the public hugging and taking selfies.

    The world is going insane .. well at least hopefully it’s just restricted to the woke left. My thinking is that all this “identify as” business is not actually what these individuals thing it is. Its actually them seeing that they have traits common in some other group in society. But that of itself doesn’t MAKE you one of those in said group. For example I identity as a purple pen as I see I have some of the same traits as all other purple pens, but clearly I’m NOT ACTUALLY a purple pen. They’re all using the “identity” thing in the wrong sense. And it surprises me that no psychologists have picked up on this.

  Doyle ran for the Greens in Hamilton West last year, and was soundly beaten. The picture of him in the 2023 election coverage by the Spinoff at the time https://policy.nz/2023/hamilton-west-electorate/candidates/benjamin-doyle indicates shows to me is he obviously ethnically European and visibly not Maori. This would no doubt infuriate him, so he has to tell all and sundry about which ethnic group he identifies with.
  
  In his spiel on why he stood in 2023, he noted that his dream includes a “society that enacts the promises of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and within which our parliament centres equity and justice in every policy decision and political debate.”
  
  He then tells us about himself, using pidgin English where possible: “I am…a community organiser. I am also proudly takatāpui and whaikaha”. Of course he has his snout in the trough, having taught high school for a bit focusing “on rangatahi achieving equitable educational outcomes” and now “as a university researcher with a focus on education, well-being and anti-racist pedagogy.”
  
  So he is a community organiser (shorthand for leftist activist and / or union thug) and a critical race theorist indoctrinating teaching students. He is not just snout deep in the trough, but is actively fouling it up.

I have pointed out before that American blacks take a totally different approach from Maori to who may legitimately be part of their race/community.

In short – as one Rachel Dolezal found out – no matter how you style your hair, or how many hours you spend on a sunbed, or how you “identify”, if you don’t have a significant amount of black blood, you aren’t one.

Here of course there is no blood requirement for being “Maori”, although the legal definition “a person descended from a New Zealand Maori” technically allows people whiter than me to identify as Maori.

I suspect the Maori shit stirrers are slowly realising that this “test” – that one only has to have 1/64th Maori blood to be one – is rebounding on them, as “Maori” such as Seymour quite clearly have a totally different world view from – say – Hone the Racist. It’s all rather fun to watch as they tie themselves in knots.

    I will admit I would feel a deep sense of pleasure should that fellow suffer a political downfall.
    
    The sanctimonious little twerp.
    
    I can give countless examples but his behaviour over Bob Jones was just disgraceful, and showed us all exactly what sort of person he is. He maligned Jones absolutely without basis, then when proven wrong he not only didn’t apologise for his outrageous slur, he doubled down and made even worse baseless slurs.
    
    I can stomach Greenies when they are just naive or simple – but when they
    present as all righteous and holier then thou but are actually provably nasty and vicious and attack people personally then I will take great pleasure in their downfall. He’s right at the top of the list.
    
    Him and Davidson.
    
    Nasty. Just plain nasty. They’ve proven themselves both filthy racists, spreading grievance and division wherever they go. They feed off it.

  Apart from that this all happened when C Hipkins was PM
  Neither the then Minister for Women, Jan Tinetti nor the current Minister, Nicola Grigg have complained she’s had a rough deal.

    I was referring to Labour’s recent and concerted push to ‘believe all women’ in claims of sexual abuse and to severely restrict the defence’s ability to cross-examine accusers in court.
    
    Luckily they were thrown out of office before they could change our laws accordingly.

      In the case you highlighted her accusations didn’t get passed first base let alone into court because the police did their job.
      Why don’t you find a case that illustrates your point, because from what I understand there’s plenty where the woman has been hard done by; not only by the court system, but by the police in the first instance to the extent that the vast majority of sexual violence cases don’t get reported

  Originally the Mullah would climb the steps of the Minaret and yell out the call to prayer. Then he would use a microphone and loudspeaker. Then he relocated the microphone to the foot of the Minaret to save climbing the steps. finally a recording of the call and a timer fully automated the process.

  Small rugby crowds are pretty much par for the course these days for the men’s and women’s games except the women’s World Cup that packed out Eden Park
  A couple of controversial haka certainly put some interest into the local competition and I doubt if the sisters care less about the naysayers
  Out my way is Warriors country with jerseys everywhere, but never any Blues gear
