  I’d take it Colville. Emirates are still flying around Middle East bar for Iran and Iraq. In fact most of the Middle East airlines are still flying, Etihad, Gulf, FlyDubai etc. Iran hates western countries, it’s extremely unlikely they’d go after planes from Muslim countries.

  But they are terrified of regime collapse—because they’ve watched the aftermath of Western intervention in countries like Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Afghanistan.

It is clear many people have little or no understanding of the sheer brutality possible under the Mullahs in Iran. Or, in many cases , even here in New Zealand, they do not want to know. They are so implacably opposed to Trump, USA, capitalism and anything on the right they refuse to hear anything that might reveal the enormity of the vicious barbarity that can exist in the most radical extremists among the Shi’ites. The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rules with an iron fist despite up to 70% of the population being opposed to his extreme religious views and actions.

The extent of their atrocities is indicated by such unbelievable violations as indoctrinating children from toddlers so at age 10 to 12 years they are willing to run across ground that is saturated with landmines, knowingly willing to die, so the area can be cleared for their troops to cross. Any suggestion of an uprising to remove this repressive regime has been met with brutal finality. Women have been arrested and shot for not having their headscarf worn correctly. It is hard to rationalise such inhumanity or understand trying to exist in such obscene cruelty. The Revolutionary Guards know no restriction on brutal repression.

The Mullahs are so deranged they state regularly and openly Jews have no right exist, Israel must be obliterated and the USA is the “mother of all evil”. Such is their evil commitment that there can be little doubt that had they finally produced nuclear weapons they would have found a way to use them against Israel and even the USA. The justification for bombing their installations was sound. Call it basic survival.

The world now waits in some trepidation. How far will they go in retaliation for the bombing of the nuclear factories and how well can Israel and the USA defend themselves? The Khamenei may have fled to Moscow and there are hopes that local dissent and some outside help may overthrow the Mullahs and some less atrocious government can be instituted. Sadly, we are now so warped in our views in the MSM here you won’t read such accounts outside of Kiwiblog and similar more open journals.

    Empires easily subjugated people in the past with relatively small occupying forces through initial extreme violence and rooting out of opposition, sippenhaft (kin liability/collective punishment) etc, to make public reluctant to support guerillas or insurgencies, but our high minded morality prevents us doing that anymore, ironically condemning far more to suffer under ongoing repressive thuggery – such as in Afghanistan.

Do a bit of reading and see what happens to those who do. One of the last Jews executed in Iran was hung in prison without trial or proper recourse to justice for helping other Jews emigrate.

  Interesting thing is for me the difference between KSA Saudi power sharing and Iran.
  Rulers of KSA have complete Religous Power to to the Religious elite. Ie total Religious autonomy.
  As long as the ruling kings, Crown princes supported wahibism.
  Ie separation of State and Religion.
  The outcome is all Madrassas world wide are supported mostly by KSA and it’s child hood indoctrination.
  However, Iran appears Not to have such a division.
  Side note, I have worked a lot in the Persian Gulf and the outcomes and effect of the people’s through a religious lens.

Letter from school, saying that my year 12 child has to miss 2 days of school in the most important year of school. For counselling!!!

Mount Maunganui College is fortunate to be working with the Police to deliver the “Loves-Me-Not” Programme to all Year 12 students on Wednesday the 23rd of July and Thursday the 24th July.
Loves-Me-Not uses a whole school approach with a one-day workshop for Year 12 students to explore healthy relationships.

All Year 12 students will be attending this full-day programme. In order to ensure all students get the opportunity to participate, we have split the year group. Half will be at school one day undertaking ‘Loves Me Not’ while the other half will be working from home. xxxxxxxxxxx has provided you with a focus around the career work on the second day so it is important that you treat this day as a working day. You may also wish to work on assignments you have that are due soon however this is a great block of time to ensure your careers work is completed. Please see below the message from xxxxxxxxxxx.

  But is it the fault of the National govt? Let’s acknowledge that wokeness has a lot of support from the NZ wokerati. And there is a lot of them.
  
  Would you be comfortable with a govt that can dictate to NZers what they can say and do on this issue? I wouldn’t, it’s a National govt, not a National dictatorship.
  
  We have to win hearts and minds. Sadly many NZers love this sort of thing. It makes them feel they are good people.

I watched another witless TVNZ ‘News’ story last evening.
I was left wondering: ‘is this this the best they can do?’
Benedict Collins was in full self-righteous, holier-than-thou flow.
When he was in the UK recently David Seymour made some remarks about smokers being fiscal heroes.
Bit odd. Perhaps tongue-in-cheek. Funny? I dunno.
But worthy of Benedict Collins’ self-righteous outrage?
He was able to go looking for allies to share his outrage.
He found Ayesha Verrall, the former Labour health minister, and she obliged with angry eyebrow-beetling spluttering.
There was a professor from the University of Otago – where else? – who adopted lofty, mumsie condescension.
Nichola Willis refused to comment.
I imagine that David Seymour knows better than most the effect of a dying relative on someone, and someone young.
In the past I’ve read several times that he watched his mother suffer from [breast?] cancer and indeed looked after her until she died.
The sanctimonious Benedict Collins didn’t mention that.
I was left surprised that TVNZ considered what Seymour said all that newsworthy?
And their boss has stated that regaining audience trust is a main goal.

Woke grammar continues at the Herald:

Police have launched an investigation after a Wellington homeowner uncovered human remains in their garden.

Some home owners could take this as a Woke insult. Not “him” or “her”?
What are they implying?

If they didn’t know whether the reference was to a man or a woman, there are other constructions, e.g: ” … remains in the house garden.”

Or even just: ” … remains in the garden.”

    Ghost! A “home owner” is a singular noun with a neutral adjective.
    
    “Their” referring to this person in this case is a plural possessive pronoun and is grammatically incorrect.
    
    The Woke are trying to change the grammatical rule or custom for Woke reasons. Wokies want to remove his/hers etc from the language.
    
    They want to further remove identity from within the English language.
    
    What the Wokies are doing is confusing and in many cases reduces the amount of information conveyed.
    
    Already English has less identity grammar than most Indo-european languages. Good luck with taking femine/noun classifications out of nouns and adjectives in languages from France to Russia.

        The possessive pronoun for two people (“their”) is correctly plural.
        
        Nothing to note.
        
        Second, of the finished pumice blocks the report says: ” … they have a slight adobe finish.”
        
        This is a correct subjective, plural pronoun, “they”.
        
        No problem.

        Ghost, you know well that most newspapers, many book publishers, and presumably most TV and radio outlets have house styles, with standard choices on grammar and some words.
        
        You wouldn’t have a separate style just for speech of Luxon or [use correct names] and another style for local incidents such as finding a body in the back yard.

Libertarians are right

I think if even half of Trump’s “peace deals” work then the Nobel Peace Prize people deserve to give themselves the award.

It’s a brilliant piece of 4D chess, giving Obama one for nothing then refusing to give Trump one (that was arguably deserved), knowing that his malignant narsicism wouldn’t accept it and drive him to push for even more peace. Brilliant!

Looks like Luxon will be the only PM from the four invited nations of Japan, South Korea Australia and NZ attending the NATO meeting. The others are sending deputies. Maybe the call by Trump that nations should spend 5% on defence has them worried, deputies presumably can’t make any commitment. Will be interesting to see how our PM answers the 5% question. I bet the health workers in Whangarei will be interested.

RNZ has today been providing a soapbox platform for a noisy rabble of students from the Maorified woke hotbed Hagley College, who are demanding that Rolleston Avenue’s name be changed, due to the evil actions of William Rolleston during the Parihaka affair.

The thing is, a few minutes reading on the internet shows that Rolleston was hardly the villain of the piece, and it was really John Bryce who, if anybody, they should be whining about. But I suppose they’re limited in that course of action by the lack of a nearby Bryce Avenue.

I’m wondering if how long it’ll take this mob to cotton on to the fact there’s a large town just 20 minutes down the road bearing the name of Rolleston.
