Lord Mayor Bob Harvey
March 30th, 2005 at 10:02 am by David FarrarThe former Labour Party President and Waitakere Mayor, Bob Harvey, wants there to be a Lord Mayor of Auckland, but for the Lord Mayor to be based in Wellington at Auckland’s embassy!
He must be upset he has not yet been made an Ambassador to a foreign country, so will accept an internal Ambassadorship.
Harvey is critical of the Minister for Auckland, Judith Tizard, having no support to do the job.
Perhaps we should have a Lord Mayor of Wellington also, and send them to our Embassy in Auckland.
As amusing as this all is, I am rather disturbed that the suggestion is dead serious!

Perhaps both Lord mayors (and surely, this is THE job for John Banks?) could be based in the Chatham Islands….

If anyone is to be named Lord Mayor of Wellington and sent to Auckland it is me, seeing that this is a diplomatic posting I presume the Lord Mayor would be given full diplomatic immunity.

The idea of a Lord Mayor, might work if the multiple local bodies could combine, saving ratepayers millions of dollars in beauracratic rubbish. Auckland, Wellington, HawkesBay, Christchurch could whittle down to 1 council each. The chances of Comrade Bob being mayor of the supercity are pretty slim though

Doubt this ever happen, from what I’ve seen in Waitakere the Mayor can’t even organise a pothole repair.
