Very very sick humour
March 31st, 2005 at 4:21 pm by David FarrarAs those who know me can testify I have a very sick sense of humour. I will laugh at jokes no matter how tasteless and refuse to date people who do not like South Park.
So bearing that in mind, I just can not resist linking to Terri Schiavo’s Blog. I know it is wrong, and cruel, and mean but I just could not help but laugh. It is a very very sad case, more so that her family are having the world look on, but humour keeps us sane.
If you are masochistic read some of the comments on the blog where death threats and curses are traded.

As Mel Brooks once said, “Tragedy is when I cut my lttle finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die.”

I am glad we live in a freeish world, especially when it comes to expression.
However I can’t understand how anyone would find that sick and nasty material funny. You have me worried, how can material like that keep you sane, quite the opposite really.

The blog as a concept is hillarious – sadly, 99% of the comments on it are appalling.

I admit to having laughed at that blog. The sheer audacity of someone taking the piss of such an occurrence as anything.

The whole sad affair has been hyped by the media to the point that it is now dehumanised and laughable. I suspect the media are feeding the needs of her husband and parents only. Ordinary folk would regard the withdrawl of lifesupport for a family member as a very private matter. Not this lot it seems. Probably looking for those exclusive deals with the womens mags. Seriously, what functional family would make such a circus of such a tragic thing?

Ashley – that sums it up perfectly. You have this one tragic case which is being debated by hundreds of millions around the world, and someone does have the audacity to do a piss-take blog.

The matter ceased to be private when it became politicised by the Republican Party in an attempt to portray the Democratic Party as pro-death. Needless to say they have not risen to the debate. The Economist has an excellent article on this.

Who has gained the most out of making this a political issue Tim?

Tim, the Economist also went out of its way to endorse Flip “Reporting for duty” Flopper for President.
Paul – the Schindlers have been having a go at the husband because they went bankrupt in 1989 and the husband reportedly went back on his word to give them a part of Terri’s malpractice payout to help them out. They’ve turned it into a bit of a vendetta. Still, there are plenty of other issues at play.

The economist only reluctantly supported Kerry the main reason being Bush’s profligate spending and huge deficits. And I agreed with them. However she (Terri) has since died but the debate remains ugly in the US but the Americans like death with the death penalty, guns etc.
