Kiwiblog wishes America a very happy 233rd birthday, and dedicates this Independence Day to John Adams, 2nd President of the United States – a founding father whose contribution has been overshadowed by Washington and Jefferson – but was still incredibly significant.

Cue anti American posts from Sonic, Roger and co

Thanks David, 233 years makes the USofA one of the oldest countries with a continuous form of government (representative republic)

    Isn’t it America’s 232nd birthday?

I mean, if someone was born in 1976, they’d be 32 this year. Add 200 to that and you get 232, don’t you?

The United States was conceived on the 4th of July, 1776- it was born on the 21st of June, 1788, when the constitution was ratified, but telling them that they are just 220 years old doesn’t work…

  6. Strutta (67) Says:

    Grant,
You are probably correct historically. However, virtually all citizens of the USA consider 4/7/1776 as the birth date of their nation.

At times like these I am reminded how in every era or generation there are those who were born for there time.

Ben franklin was another one of that time.
At the same time the Wesleys and George Whitefield (a personal friend of Franklin) were changing the US and the UK.

But point at any time and you will find individuals who bonded together under a common purpose of advancement.

Did you know Noah Webster and Dr Johnson, lived in the same time and place and produced the first dictionary.

Now all we can say is the new Rome (America) will repeat history, and probably get trounced by Iran as the first Romans did three times.

And both the Romans and Americans treat everyone else as barbarians. (To plunder their resources especially)

She would’ve been a Hillary supporter.

I can’t help thinking she would loved to have given some doctoring advice to Hillary on campaign posters.

Every labour publicity pic shows people at least 10 yrs younger.

I went to visit Martin Gallagher, Labour MP for Hamilton West. a man came out in the office and I asked if I could see the MP. he said it was him. Not judging by the photo outside. Unrecognizable!!

    A Hillary supporter, thats a nice euphemism…

Every nation that has missed out on having a constitution like the one drawn up by the founders of the US is worse off as a result. It’s too late once you’re on the slippery slope to Serfdom (a la Hayek), unless you get to have a revolution and a second chance, like the former Communist bloc nations of Eastern Europe who almost all of them adopted an almost word-for-word version of the US constitution after the fall of the wall. Imagine the difference between a constitution drawn up by our political intelligentsia today, and the US one……….
